Explained: Dubai's 5-Year Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa For Indians

In 2023, Dubai witnessed a remarkable 25% surge in overnight visitors from India.

Dubai has introduced a game-changer for Indian tourists with a newly launched five-year multiple-entry visa. Aimed at strengthening ties between India and the UAE, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has announced this initiative in response to the increasing influx of Indian visitors.

Dubai's 5-Year Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa: What does it mean?

In 2023, Dubai witnessed a remarkable 25% surge in overnight visitors from India, solidifying its position as the leading source market. The five-year visa is strategically implemented to deepen economic collaborations, stimulate tourism, and fortify business relationships.

Dubai's 5-Year Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa: How does it work?

This new visa lets tourists enter the UAE multiple times on their sponsorship. They can stay for 90 days initially, extendable once, totalling a maximum of 180 days within a year.

It is designed to suit various travel needs, facilitating easy connections for business or leisure purposes.

DET highlighted that with this initiative, tourists can benefit from multiple entries and exits, enhancing operational flexibility for business engagements, leisure travel, and seamless connectivity.

Bader Ali Habib, Regional Head of Proximity Markets at Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, emphasised the significant role of India in Dubai's tourism sector, contributing to record-breaking performance in inbound visitation in 2023, reported Economic Times.

He stated that India remains a key market for Dubai, playing an essential role in achieving the goals of the D33 Agenda and reinforcing Dubai's position as a hub for business, investment, and tourism.

Application Process:

To obtain the visa, applicants must meet certain criteria, including a bank balance of 4,000 USD, valid health insurance for the UAE, a round-trip ticket, and proof of stay in the UAE (hotel or residential address).

The application requires essential documents such as a coloured photo, passport copy, medical insurance, bank statement, tour program, and an onward journey ticket.

Issuing the Visa:

The process of issuing the visa involves either utilising digital channels (GDRFA website/smart application) or visiting a Customer Happiness Centre. Both methods involve filling the application, paying the necessary fees, and ensuring all conditions and documents are in order.

The visa adheres to specific terms and conditions, including possessing a valid passport or travel document, a return ticket, valid medical insurance in the UAE, and a bank statement showing a balance of 4,000 USD.

Dubai's 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa for Indians is a significant step towards fostering stronger bonds between the two nations and providing Indian tourists with an extended and flexible travel option to Dubai.

Yes, You can extend your visa for an additional 30 days, with a maximum total stay of 120 days within a year.  The possibility of extension depends on your current visa type. Tourist visas are generally the most extendable, while others like work visas might have specific renewal procedures. You cannot extend an expired visa. It's crucial to apply before your current visa reaches its expiry date. There might be grace periods and fines associated with overstaying.

Application Process:

  • Gather Documents: You'll need your passport (original and copy), visa application form, coloured passport-sized photographs, and payment for the extension fee (around AED 1000).
  • Online: Many government websites like GDRFAD or specific Emirates Immigration Departments offer online visa extension options.

  • Collect Your Extended Visa: Upon approval (usually within 3-5 working days), you can download your e-visa or collect your updated passport with the extension stamp depending on the application method.

Here are some common reasons why a UAE tourist visa application may be rejected:

  • Incomplete or Inaccurate Application: Ensure thorough completion of the application form, attaching all required documentation before submission. Any inaccuracies or omissions may lead to visa refusal.
  • Past Visa Violations: Previous breaches of UAE tourist visa regulations, such as illegal employment or visa overstay, can result in visa denial.
  • Security Concerns: Visa applications may be rejected if immigration authorities have suspicions or concerns regarding an applicant's security background.

If your previous UAE E-visa application was denied, you have the option to reapply. However, it's crucial to understand the reasons for the initial rejection and address them before submitting a new application. Review any rejection notices or communications from UAE immigration authorities for specific feedback.

To avoid another rejection, ensure that your new application is error-free and meets all requirements.

Before reapplying for a UAE E-visa, gather the necessary documents:

  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your planned entry date into the UAE and has two blank pages for visa stamping.
  • Provide a scanned copy of your passport's personal information page.
  • Have a credit/debit card or PayPal account ready to pay the Dubai tourist visa fees.
  • Use a current email address to receive your UAE E-visa.

When reapplying:

  • Address any issues: Correct any mistakes or deficiencies from your previous application. Make sure all required documents mentioned above are accurate and complete.
  • Provide additional information: If possible, include any extra details or documents that could strengthen your application.
  • Seek assistance if needed: If you're unsure about why your application was rejected or need guidance, consider reaching out to UAE Immigration Services for clarification or assistance before reapplying.

If your UAE e-visa application is rejected there isn't a formal process for appealing the decision. Typically, if your UAE e-visa is denied, you will receive notification outlining the reasons for the rejection. If you believe the denial occurred due to misinformation or an assessment error, you may consider reaching out to the UAE embassy or consulate for clarification and resolution.

Upon arrival at the UAE airport, it's important to follow these steps for a smooth and hassle-free experience:

  • Ensure Travel Documents are Ready: Have your passport and a valid UAE visit visa readily available for quick verification by immigration authorities. It's advisable to carry physical printouts of these documents or ensure they are easily accessible on your mobile device.
  • Understand UAE (Dubai) Regulations: Proceed to the customs area if you have items to declare or if your baggage requires inspection. Familiarise yourself with the UAE (Dubai) Customs Regulations , which offer information on various services, duty-free shopping options, and traveller facilities.
  • Follow Unaccompanied Minor Guidelines: If you are travelling as an unaccompanied minor, remain with your designated flight attendant for safety. Upon arrival, identify your assigned adult at the destination airport to ensure a secure transition.

I n response to recent travel updates for visitors from India to UAE, a few Indian airlines have issued a set of guidelines for passengers.

The advisory, issued by airlines to travel agents in India and in UAE, states that “travellers should carry necessary documents when travelling from Indian cities to the UAE.”

An Air India Express spokesperson confirmed to Khaleej Times that they issued an advisory urging passengers to carry valid passports, return tickets, accommodation details, and financial proof.

The advisory stated that travellers from India must ensure their passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

“Visitors must have a confirmed return ticket, proof of confirmed hotel reservation, carry or have in their account Dh3,000 (approximately Rs68,000) for a 1-month visa and Dh5,000 for a longer stay, and additional documents of relatives or friends who are residents of the UAE,” the advisory stated.

Travel agents based in India and Dubai told Khaleej Times that they have received advisories from many airlines flying between the two countries.

“We have received circulars from SpiceJet, Air India, and other airlines who have issued such advisories so that travellers can be equipped with all the necessary documents and funds for ease in travel,” said Taha Siddique, owner of Siddique Travels.

According to a circular shared with the agents by SpiceJet, the airline warns the passengers to carry all the documents and that “failure to do so may lead to deportation.”

The advisory also stated that “passengers who do not have the required documents will be denied boarding on our flights at the departing airport and all related charges will be debited to the ticketing agency."

“We will have to bear the expenses of the return if our client is denied entry in the UAE airports. So we make sure that they have all the related documents before we book their tickets,” said Siddique.

According to travel agents, travellers are well aware of the situation and are carrying all the necessary documents.

“As many were not allowed to board the flights from India, or were sent back from the UAE airport, travellers are not taking any chance now and they are well prepared in advance,” said Deepak Kaushik, operations manager at ToursOnBoard.

According to agents, if a visitor is denied entry in the UAE, “it becomes the airline's responsibility to take the traveller back to his home country, and this is the reason that they are conducting rigorous checks before issuing a boarding pass,” said Bharath Aidasani, managing partner at Pluto Travels.

“Travellers at the check-in counters have their documents checked by airline executives. If travellers fail to produce the necessary documents, they may be sent back or asked to obtain the documents before boarding the flight,” said Firoz Maliyakkal, founder and CEO of Tahira Tours and Travels.

How to get your kids to read: Essential tips for parents

After facing several questions on the ongoing T20 World Cup with a straight bat at a press conference, Robin Uthappa was all smiles as he made his way to a private corner of an indoor sports facility at Al Quoz, Dubai, for an interview with City Times .

Hordes of super excited fans slowed him down, grabbing selfies with their mobile cameras; some even wanted to shake his hands and give a pat on his back.

It was not easy to know if any of them were loyal fans of Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, teams with which Uthappa won IPL titles as a player.

But what was clearly visible amidst all that typical fan excitement was the bright smile that never disappeared from Uthappa’s face as he posed with them.

A member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team, Uthappa then settled into a couch for a chat during which he opened up about what it takes for celebrities to share their mental health issues on public forums and why he decided to become a Dubai resident.

You are a Dubai resident now, you hold a golden visa. But why did you decide to move to Dubai?

It was more from the kids’ perspective. We wanted a really solid primary education and knowing how good Dubai is as far as education is concerned and also the safety, not just for kids, but also for women. That was a big priority for us because I am on the road seven, or eight months in a year, so it became a no-brainer. Also, since I am playing leagues outside of India, it makes more sense to live here.

Your family is enjoying the Dubai life…

Oh yes, it’s been 15-16 months now here in Dubai. And they are loving it. I think it was the best decision we made as far as our family is concerned.

tourist visa for indian citizens to dubai

You have two kids. They have settled in well…

Yes, my son loves it. He goes to Kings’ Al Barsha, my daughter is a little too young. She is in a playschool now. So yeah, we are loving it. And we are enjoying Dubai. In fact, last year we intentionally stayed here through the summer, because we wanted to experience the summer. So we stayed back, we didn’t travel anywhere. And it was fun, we really enjoyed Dubai now. It feels like home for us now.

You are also commentating on the T20 World Cup for two Dubai radio stations, Talk 100.3 FM and Big 106.2 How is the experience so far as a radio commentator? We normally don’t see international players doing radio commentary…

Wonderful. It’s different in the sense that you have got to describe the play. It’s a great prep for broadcasting for television as well. So it’s been a fun experience for me so far. And yes, very different from broadcasting on television.

It’s a good point you made about Dubai being such a safe city. This is what makes this city stand out in the world now. But since you are a sportsman and your wife (Sheethal Goutham) was also a former international tennis player, how nice is it to see the sports activities that are being promoted by the UAE government here in a bid to encourage the citizens as well as the residents to lead a healthy lifestyle?

It’s incredible, to be honest. I think there is a lot of focus on different sports, there is a huge variety of sports. In fact my son has been doing gymnastics from a very young age, so today he is here not just practising gymnastics, he has gone up a step further, he is playing three different sports at this point. So it’s incredible. Also, being a cricketer, I would love to see more organised cricket tournaments in this country. To have eight Test-playing nations as part of the expat population in the UAE, I think this country should be able to qualify for every cricket World Cup. I think it's a huge talent pool. The UAE have the potential to become one of the leading cricket-playing nations in the world.

Of course, you spoke about sports and the importance of physical fitness. There is also the very important issue of mental health now. You had opened up about your struggles in the past, and you admitted to having suicidal thoughts. It’s obviously a very sensitive issue because a lot of people hesitate to open up about this. So how challenging is it for a celebrity like you to reveal what you have gone through and how you overcame your problems?

I think it depends on what the intention is. If the intention is noble and if the intention is pure then, there is no difficulty in expressing it. For me, I intended to, I just wanted to break the taboo associated with mental health issues because mental health issues are something we go through a lot in our lives, in one way or the other, in one point or the other, we experience it. I think that is something that needed to be broken, the taboo needed to be broken. The stigma attached to it needs to be broken. I think the more light you shed on something that is in the darkness, the less intimidating it becomes, the less scary it becomes, and the more normal it becomes.

Dubai Capitals' Robin Uthappa during the ILT20 match against Gulf Giants at Dubai International Stadium

Another big issue in the world of sports is now social media trolls. If an athlete is not able to perform well, he or she faces brutal abuse on social media. We saw the kind of trolling the young Riyan Parag faced until the start of the 2024 IPL. He overcame that phase, silencing all of them with the sheer volume of his runs. What advice would you give young athletes on dealing with social media trolls? It seems nobody can escape that now. So how do they deal with it?

I think everyone has their own way of dealing with it based on how that personality is. Do what works for you. Be yourself and do what you feel is the best for you. I think Riyan is doing what works for him, different people will need to do what works for them. So do what works for you.

Finally a word on Hardik Pandya, please. He not only faced online trolls but he was harassed and booed by Mumbai Indians fans at the stadiums for replacing Rohit Sharma as captain. The fans' reaction was extreme. How painful was it to see a fellow cricketer going through such a painful experience?

I think everybody has the right to their opinion. Having said that it was very hard for me to watch from the outside because for someone who has battled mental health issues to witness someone being put in such a horrible spot for choices that he made for himself was actually quite hard. There were a lot of moving pieces in the whole affair, and there were a lot of other people who were also involved, so there is empathy for all parties involved, but I don’t think it’s right for anyone to go through that level of criticism, that level of trolling. I think it was inhumane.
