Drake’s New Tour Is Worth Seeing for the Stage Alone

Portrait of Dee Lockett

In 2016, Kanye West rewrote the rules for how artists could think about their live stage show. He posed a single challenge to his production team, an idea he’d been mulling for a decade: “Why do we have to have a stage, anyway?” Turns out, they didn’t.

“The corny shit has to die,” he would later tell the crowd at the opening night of his Saint Pablo tour. “Inspiration has to rise.” And he meant it literally: Kanye took the stage that night without a stage at all — at least not in the traditional sense. If you went to most other concerts around that time, you would’ve likely watched the show seated in a crowd that was all facing the same stationary stage. Kanye’s anti-stage, however, was mobile; he performed, mere feet above the crowd on a large rectangular black mass that floated back and forth across the arena floor. The setup meant that, at any given moment during the show, Kanye was either at arm’s length , or eye-level with the crowd. Every seat was the best seat in the house. It was a risk, but it paid off. Kanye West was not the star of his own show — design, innovation, and a vision for music’s future took center stage even without one.

Drake and Migos’s latest tour, Aubrey & the Three Migos, is in the middle of a New York residency — capping off four nights at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night before moving on to Barclays Center for another three — and it picks up where Kanye left off. Drake does not float and neither does his stage. Movement at this show is presented another way: Drake performs the entire two-hour spectacle from the center of the room, where he is also situated atop a rectangular structure with a 360-degree view of fans on all sides, and video screens that wrap around overhead. It stays in one place the whole show, depending instead on him alone to provide the action. Drake cannot turn his back to one side for too long, at the risk of alienating an entire fraction of the room.

It’s partially to Drake’s credit that the setup of watching nothing but him dart across the stage all night isn’t as boring as it could be. Even with three men onstage and more props to interact with, Migos — who have always been stiff performers — failed to be even half as compelling or engaging in their opening set. But Drake is an actor first, and he knows how to work the room. “It’s not just me performing, it’s us,” he tells the arena. It’s a good point: not even Drake alone can sustain the interactive nature of a stage like this. The sleepier B-side of the show (which aligns with the R&B side of Scorpion and sees him sing a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” for no good reason), exposes just how consistently lively the action on stage must always be for it to be interesting. (It might also explain why he rushes through all of his hits in snippets, rather than risk lingering on any individual song for just a beat too long and lose the crowd.)

Perhaps anticipating that, Drake’s tour brings several reinforcements. His stage isn’t just a stage, it’s a piece of multimedia art resembling the work of Kanye collaborator Es Devlin . It is at once a light box and a gargantuan projector on which images of mermaids circling around Drake like sharks are shown. Its ever-shifting designs become a visual feast for the duration of the show, so that when Drake occasionally lags, there’s something else to watch. During “Yes Indeed,” a Ferrari randomly floats about the crowd seemingly for no other purpose than it just looks cool. Midway through the show, laser beams from above etch a full basketball court into the stage on which Drake invites a fan at each show to attempt a lucky half-court shot for $25,000.

As much as Drake is unmistakably the show’s star, he’s willing to share the shine. Tuesday night’s show featured guest appearances from Shiggy, who performed his viral dance routine to “In My Feelings” while the stage transformed into a scrolling Instagram feed of others’ re-creations of the challenge beneath him, and Travis Scott, who performed his and Drake’s new hit “Sicko Mode” (which received the wildest crowd reaction of the night by a mile) and “Goosebumps.” Aubrey & the Three Migos might not fully live up to the futurism Kanye had in mind for concerts — and that probably isn’t its intent — but it’s the best attention paid to fan accessibility and getting the bang for your buck since the Saint Pablo tour, anyway.

Migos – everything you need to know about the number one hip-hop group in the world

Beatles comparisons, viral sensations, and a number one single in the US - here's the lowdown on the three Migos

migos tour wiki

“ I think they’re the Beatles of this generation and I don’t think that they get a lot of respect outside of Atlanta. There’s a generation of kids – like, the YouTube generation I came up with – that are growing up on something that’s completely separate from a whole group of people. That song, ‘Bad and Boujee’, is just fly. There’s no better song to have sex to. ”

Aside from celebrating a deserved win for the flawless debut season of his excellent TV show Atlanta , much of the spotlight on Donald Glover’s success at the Golden Globes on Sunday (January 8) fell on his love for the hip-hop group Migos (and not just because they guest-starred in an episode of Atlanta ). After lauding their 2016 single ‘Bad and Boujee’ as “the best song ever” during his acceptance speech for Atlanta ‘s triumph in the Best Television Comedy category, Glover went a step further in the post-awards press conference by eulogising the Atlanta trap trio as “the Beatles of this generation.”

The reaction was huge: ‘Bad and Boujee’ became possibly the most-played song in the world yesterday, with a 243% increase in streams leading to the track shooting straight to the top of the US Hot 100 singles chart, giving Migos their first-ever number one song in their home country.

But Glover’s shout-out at the Golden Globes wasn’t Migos’ first brush with the mainstream. The group have been at the forefront of global trends, viral songs and innovation in hip-hop since they first broke through in 2013, and are an undeniably huge deal in the US and beyond – check out, for instance, the frenzied reaction they received when they played ‘Bad and Boujee’ on a recent tour stop in Lagos, Nigeria.

If you’re new to the Migos hype, then don’t worry – here’s the full cheat sheet on the world’s best hip-hop group.

Who are Migos?

Recommended.

Migos are Quavo (born Quavious Keyate Marshall, 25 years old), Takeoff (Kirshnik Khari Ball, 22), and Offset (Kiari Kendrell Cephus, 25). Interestingly, Quavo is Takeoff’s uncle, while Offset and Quavo are cousins – Migos is very much a family affair.

Originally from Lawrenceville, Georgia, the trio – who formed in 2009 – are now known for representing the state’s capital Atlanta, arguably trap music’s spiritual home.

Back in 2015, the trio briefly had to operate as a duo when Offset was sent to jail following a police raid on the group’s tourbus after a show at Georgia State University. While Quavo and Takeoff were released on bond, Offset was remanded in custody – a situation he didn’t exactly make any better by running up charges of battery and inciting a riot within a penal facility while in jail. The rapper was finally released in December 2015 after eight months in custody, reuniting the three Migos.

Noisey ‘s controversial profile of Migos from the same year serves as an eye-opening visual introduction to the group – with the amount of weapons and weed lying around at their country club home, it’s no wonder they went on to dismiss the short film as “a scripted movie.”

What songs have Migos released?

Since Migos dropped their first mixtape, ‘Jugg Season’, in 2011, the group have been prolific when it comes to free releases – fourteen more mixtapes have followed that original offering, with the most prominent being the breakthrough ‘Y.R.N’ mixtape (2013), as well as ‘Rich N*gga Timeline’ (2014) and ‘Back To The Bando’ (2015). They’re independent-minded as well, self-releasing much of their music through their own Quality Control label. Their distribution partnership with Atlantic Records imprint 300 Entertainment – also the home of Young Thug and Fetty Wap – is as corporate as Migos get.

Their rapid style of lyrical delivery – which has an emphasis on spitting in triplets – won many of their fans over, as did the jerky, yet often oddly beautiful, trap production from group affiliate and leading Atlanta producer Zaytoven – introduced to Migos by the trap godfather, Gucci Mane, in 2012 – that appeared on a number of Migos’ earliest hits.

The group are currently readying themselves for the release of their second album ‘Culture’, which drops on January 27. The new record, which features ‘Bad and Boujee’, will follow their July 2015 debut studio offering, ‘Yung Rich Nation’, which featured the Migos staples ‘One Time’ and ‘Handsome & Wealthy’.

How did Migos get noticed?

Where Migos really have come alive in their rise to the top is through the success of individual songs, many of which have taken on a life of their own in the social age – their latest success, ‘Bad and Boujee’, included.

Their first majorly successful song, ‘Versace’ – written, unsurprisingly, about the group’s penchant for wearing clothing and jewellery from the Italian fashion house – went Gold in the US in 2013 (with a little help from a Drake remix , of course), no doubt burrowing its way into the conscious of its listeners across the country through its simple-yet-effective hook (fun fact: ‘Versace’ is mentioned a mere 91 times in the song).

The next step on Migos’ path to success came again via the viral route, with another piece of earworm greatness in the form of ‘Hannah Montana’ (which also featured on 2013’s ‘Y.R.N’). The success of ‘Hannah Montana’ was particularly driven by its popularity in high schools, with Vine (R.I.P) videos of students going wild to the song in cafeterias during their lunch break spreading across the internet.

Another aspect of Migos’ popularity comes from their tendency to embrace the unusual – something they very much did through their link up with Audiomack in July 2015, who paired Quavo and Takeoff with a mini orchestra to create one of the first ever instances of a ‘Trap Symphony’. The results, as you might expect, are quite exquisite.

The Dab – did Migos invent it?

Well, they certainly think they did, anyway. In 2015 Migos released ‘Look At My Dab’, with an accompanying video showing the rappers dabbing – that’s the head-dropped-arm-up dance that went on to dominate and subsequently die a very messy death in 2016 – in the studio, which appeared to inspire US sports stars to embrace the move in celebration shortly after, consequently kicking off its global popularity (before the likes of Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard ruined it for everyone, that is).

However, Migos’ claim that they invented the dab was refuted by some of their peers, who highlighted the fact that the dance had existed in the southern hip-hop scene years before ‘Look At My Dab’. It’s most likely, therefore, that the craze was ignited by Migos rather than it being something that they’d entirely created, but the wild, unrelenting frenzy of the dab phenomenon spoke volumes for Migos’ ever-increasing global profile.

Are they really better than The Beatles?

Glover’s claim will no doubt irritate some, but he’s not the first person to compare Migos’ impact to that of The Fab Four. Ever since Quavo name-dropped the Beatles in ‘Hannah Montana’ –  “ I’m in London with the plug, gettin’ the same car as the Beatles ” – Migos fans have regularly shared the somewhat tongue-in-cheek hashtag #MigosBetterThanTheBeatles on social media (leading Quavo to reference the unlikely comparison in the 2015 song ‘Street N*gga Sacrifice’, rapping: “ They sayin’ Migos better than the Beatles / Paul McCartney, I would like to meet him “).

Whatever your opinion, it seems like Migos are more than happy to embrace the improbable comparison – and, with results like the recent surge in success of ‘Bad and Boujee’ (which had already caused a stir in the hip-hop world upon its original release back in October), you can see why Migos fancy their chances at filling the void left by John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Everything You Need To Know About Migos, The Talented Rap Trio Featuring Cardi B's Fiancé

If you follow Cardi B on Instagram, then you know that she and her fiancé Offset will soon welcome their first child, a baby girl, together. But if you're a diehard Cardi fan, then you also know how the Bronx-native rapper has been topping the charts lately with her hit singles, such as "I Like It" and "Bodak Yellow." Indeed, this little girl is getting one talented mama. But what about the dad-to-be? Offset is one of the talented members of Migos , the hip-hop/ rap trio behind popular jams that you've heard all over the radio, like "Walk It Talk It" and "Bad and Boujee."

In addition to 25-year-old Offset (whose full name Kiari Kendrell Cephus), Migos is also made up 25-year-old Quavo (full name: Quavious Keyate Marshall) and 22-year-old Takeoff (full name: Kirshnik Khari Ball), according to NME. Fun fact, as NME explained, Quavo and Offset are actually cousins, and Quavo is Takeoff's uncle, all hailing from Lawrenceville, Georgia . Music clearly runs in the family.

Migos got its start about a decade ago in 2008, but the rap group really shot to fame in 2016 when the single "Bad and Boujee" was released in October of that year, as Biography explained. Since then, Migos has been unstoppable and this past February, it nabbed a pretty incredible accolade. According to Billboard , Migos tied with the Beatles for "the most simultaneous entries on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart among groups," with a total of 14 songs on the coveted list.

migos tour wiki

That's not the only time Migos has been compared to the Beatles. In fact, according to Billboard , Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) said during his acceptance speech for Best TV Series at the 2017 Golden Globes for his FX series, Atlanta , which Migos appeared on :

I’d like to thank the Migos — not for being on the show, but for making "Bad and Boujee." I think that they're the Beatles of this generation and they don't get a lot of respect, I think, outside of Atlanta.

Beyond their fame as a group and their TV cameos, Migos has also collaborated with numerous other artists , such as Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean, Katy Perry, and, you guessed it, Cardi B. Most recently, Migos and Cardi B have put together hits like "Drip," a single from the mom-to-be's new album, Invasion of Privacy . Previously, according to Pitchfork, Cardi B and Migos worked on the single "Motor Sport" with Nicki Minaj , and in 2017 they collaborated on Cardi B's hit single "Lick," according to CapitalXtra.

Cardi B and Offset's romance began in early 2017 , according to Cosmopolitan , and between their respective (and joint) career successes and their exciting baby news, things seem to be going really well for the power couple.

Cardi B is currently in her third trimester and though her exact due date is not known, TMZ reported that she's expected to give birth sometime this summer , presumably in July. Cardi B first confirmed her pregnancy news when she performed on Saturday Night Live back in April, showcasing her pregnancy bump in a form-fitting white dress, according to Harper's Bazaar . Since then, Cardi B has been an open book about her pregnancy and her life with Offset.

View on Instagram

Cardi B and Offset got engaged in October 2017, according to Cosmopolitan , and it sounds like they could be tying the knot pretty soon after welcoming their baby into the world, though they don't seem to be in any rush. In an April interview with GQ, Cardi B shared that they were aiming for a fall wedding, though she did not say if it would be this year or next (or further in the future), but it will probably be in Atlanta, where Offset feels the most at home. "[Offset]'s never comfortable in New York ," she told GQ at the time. "He loves down south. He told me to move in with him, in Atlanta."

There's undoubtedly a lot going on for both Cardi B and the masterminds behind Migos. Indeed, the best of Atlanta is now a worldwide phenomenon and, fortunately, there's no sign of them slowing down anytime soon.

Migos Photo

Migos is a hip-hop trio from Lawrenceville, Georgia, comprised of family members Quavo, Offset and Takeoff. Known as purveyors of trap music, the group has ignited global trends like the dab — the head-dropped arm-bent dance — and their mixtapes and videos have gone viral. Among their notable hits are "Versace" and "Bad and Boujee."

Migos: The Fab Three of Trap

“ They’re the Beatles of this generation… There’s a generation of kids — like, the YouTube generation I came up with — that are growing up on something that’s completely separate from a whole group of people. That song, Bad and Boujee, is just fly. There’s no better song to have sex to. ”

So spoke the actor and musician Donald Glover at the Golden Globe awards on January 8, 2017. With these words, he sent the internet into meltdown — and "Bad and Boujee" to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, officially ordaining Migos, the trio from Lawrenceville, Georgia, as hip hop’s hottest property — the Fab Three of trap.

How Old Are Quavo, Offset and Takeoff?

Growing up in georgia.

Quavious Marshall (Quavo), Kiari Cephus (Offset) and Kirshnik Ball (Takeoff) were all born and raised in the sleepy suburban town of Lawrenceville, Georgia. They grew up together. Quavo’s father died when he was four years old; Takeoff and Offset’s fathers both left when they were young. So Quavo’s mother, a hair stylist, often looked after all three boys in her small house. The boys all called her Mama, but “she was the father figure,” Quavo told Rolling Stone in February 2017. “She knew how to raise you as a man.”

The three boys had different personalities. Takeoff loved wrestling and used to practice in a makeshift ring in the back yard. Quavo was obsessed with marine documentaries on the National Geographic Channel — though he was also a star quarterback at Berkmar High School. Offset played football, too, but his short fuse repeatedly got the better of him — as a result he ended up at military school.

Quavo and Takeoff began rapping early, the former recording mixtapes as Crunk Boy by the time he was in the eighth grade. His classmates did not see his potential. “Everybody laughed at me,” he told XL Magazine in May 2014. When Offset spoke up in support of his cousin, Quavo persuaded him to try rapping, too. The following year, in 2009, the trio had formed their first group: Polo Club.

But rapping was not their only extracurricular activity during high school. The lyrics of their song "Bando" detail their involvement in the drug trade — a “bando” is an abandoned house where drugs are sold and/or manufactured. As Offset told Rolling Stone , making music “took dough,” which they needed not only for expensive recording equipment but also for clothes and jewelry, so they looked the part.

What Is the Meaning of Migos?

Their eventual band name, Migos, is also thought to be a reference to a drug house, although a more innocent interpretation is that it is an abbreviation of “amigos,” of which there were famously three.

From the Bando to 'Versace'

Migos dropped their first download-only mixtape, Juug Season , in August 2011. They have released a further 14 mixtapes, as well as two studio albums, since then. Their strong childhood bond created an innate understanding between the three rappers that fuels a prodigious work-rate: they allow each other just 15-20 minutes to record a verse, which helps explain the urgency in their sound. They are also renowned for littering their lyrics with pop-culture references — everything from Malcolm in the Middle to Hannah Montana — the result of all those hours they spent as teenagers working inside the bando with the TV on.

Their song "Bando" became a local hit in 2012 and caught the attention of Zaytoven, the Atlanta producer and collaborator with trap-superstar Gucci Mane. Zaytoven began to work with Migos, and introduced them to Kevin “Coach K” Lee, who became their manager. In June the following year Migos released their mixtape YRN , which featured Gucci Mane among its guests, and which appeared on a Billboard chart for the first time — reaching No. 74 on the US Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. Their big breakthrough came in October 2013 when Drake — whom they met at an Atlanta Hot 107.9 birthday bash — contributed a verse to a remix of their song "Versace," which propelled the group into the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, albeit at No 99. The song became a bona fide pop-culture phenomenon: the eponymous Italian fashion label used it to close its Milan fashion week show; Justin Bieber posted a video online of him singing the lyrics.

'Yung Rich Nation'

Migos’s first studio album, Yung Rich Nation , was released on July 31, 2015, on the independent label Quality Control Music, co-founded by their manager Kevin “Coach K” Lee. By now, Migos were touring extensively and commanding a fee of $40,000 for live performances (a figure that has since doubled). But at the time of the album’s release, their line-up had been temporarily reduced to two: Offset was in jail.

Trouble had been stalking the group for some time. In March 2014, they had exchanged gunfire with another vehicle while on the road in their van near Miami, according to Rolling Stone . Then in April 2015 Quavo and Offset were arrested on guns and drugs charges at Georgia Southern University, where they had been booked for a gig, after police officers smelled marijuana coming from their trailer. Also arrested was the Atlanta rapper Rich the Kid. Quavo and Rich the Kid were fined and sentenced to community service — but Offset, who already had a criminal record, received an eight-month jail sentence. “When you’re young, Black and successful, cops don’t like that,” was manager Kevin Lee’s interpretation of events. With Offset in jail, Quavo and Takeoff teamed up with Rich the Kid on the song "Free Offset," released in September 2015, though his freedom did not come until December that year.

Offset was arrested again in July 2018, after being pulled over for what was reported as an "improper lane change" while driving his Porsche. Following a vehicle search, he was charged with possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. His lawyer called it an "improper arrest" and said the rapper would have his day in court.

'Bad and Boujee' Goes Viral

On October 28, 2016, Migos released "Bad and Boujee," the lead single from their then-forthcoming second studio album. The song — about “cooking up dope with a Uzi” — was already an internet phenomenon by the time Donald Glover name-checked it at the Golden Globes in January, sending it to the top of the Billboard chart; it received 2.4 million YouTube views in a single night after his speech.

Culture , Migos’ second album, came out on January 27, 2017. It featured guests DJ Khaled, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 131,000 copies in its first week, and was certified platinum three months after its release — by which time, "Bad and Boujee" had accumulated nearly 350 million YouTube views.

In April 2017, Migos made a guest appearance on Katy Perry ’s single "Bon Appétit," and were reportedly working with Liam Payne, formerly of the pop band One Direction — another act that has been compared to the Beatles. At the top of their game, the three amigos suddenly seem to be here, there and everywhere — getting by with a little help from their friends.

About Migos

Offset talks solo tour that will honor 'greatest talent' Takeoff, his Atlanta 'soul'

migos tour wiki

Offset has attended enough hip-hop concerts to conclude many are “slacking a little.”

Artists, he says, are often more focused on “being cool” and offering the audience little more than stage-pacing with a mic.

So for his first solo tour, the former Migos member and erstwhile husband of Cardi B is unleashing his creativity, determined to leave his audiences “walking out and saying 'Wow.' I want people to walk away feeling (they saw) something unexpected.”

The rap royal-born Kiari Cephus will unveil his show packed with lasers, lighting, dancing and some “fire pieces” of merchandise that he designed at the opening of his Set It Off Tour Sunday in Philadelphia. The 17-date run is named after his lauded sophomore album that dropped in October and features openers Skilla Baby, Sleazyworld Go and YRN Mango Foo. The monthlong outing will hit cities including New York, Chicago, Dallas and San Francisco before wrapping in his native Atlanta on April 10.

Offset ready to 'open another book' with new tour

Offset, 32, says he left rehearsal the previous morning after 3 a.m., so intent on perfecting every element of his show. It’s the kind of work ethic that he gleaned from some of his idols, most prominently, Michael Jackson .

The King of Pop was a motivator because of “his creative drive to push himself to higher limits. He was never cool with standing in one position,” Offset says. “He did something so great for so long with (The Jackson 5) and he wanted to branch out and do different ventures and be even more successful for that.”

Offset acknowledges existing in a group mentality, as he did in Migos for much of his adult life, makes forging a solo identity challenging. Even the choreography he’s injecting into his live shows is a departure from his past.

“As a kid I danced, but I stopped for a minute because it didn’t meet the aesthetic of Migos,” he says. “This opens another book for me.”

Migos’ transformative trap sound enlivened hip-hop for more than a decade with “Versace,” “Bad and Boujee,” “Stir Fry” and “Walk It Talk It” among their litany of hits.

Offset keeps a photo of Takeoff on his dresser

But the trio of Offset, Takeoff and Quavo was already splintering months before the tragic death of Takeoff , who was shot and killed in November 2022 while with Quavo at a Houston bowling alley. Takeoff’s alleged killer, Patrick Clark, was released from house arrest four months ago but remains under curfew pending a court date.

When asked if his concerts will include a tribute to Takeoff, Offset sighs.

“Of course,” he says softly. “I do that every show. He has to get his moment, his respect as the greatest talent that he was. It’s an emotional roller coaster for me, but I love to do it with the fans. We’re all coming together to remember him.”

And has the pain of Takeoff’s death eased?

“Never,” Offset says. “I just keep pushing and keeping a positive thought process because that’s what he would want me to do. I pray and keep family close. I hear him talking to me here and there and giving me signs to keep pushing. He’s literally on my dresser (in a photo) everywhere I go.”

The Migos trio grew up together outside of Atlanta and the city is still “the soul of my music,” Offset says.

He appreciated the Super Bowl halftime spectacle produced by fellow Atlantan Usher and admires how the R&B superstar “kept his full identity” throughout the performance, as well as Usher’s showmanship in general.

“I went to his Vegas show, too, and I loved how, since he was in a residency (theater), people got a chance to see him up close. I’ve always been a fan of big artists never forgetting where they came from and keeping the intimacy. These people made you, so you want to give back to them,” Offset says.

Offset is ready to 'cook up' a new album while on the road

Though he relishes touring and doesn’t mind the travel on a tour bus, Offset isn’t sure how much he’ll get to see of his family while on the road. He hesitates slightly when asked if Cardi and their kids, daughter Kulture, 5, and son Wave, 2, will join him on the road.

“I don’t know,” he says slowly. “The kids have school, but on the weekends, hopefully. The kids will get to see their dad do what he do.”

On his nonparental nights, Offset intends to ensconce himself in the portable studio on his tour bus and work on new material.

“We’re cooking up for the next (album),” he says. “I’m cooking up so I can create a new story. I’m like in a labyrinth; I always have to be moving.”

Background and Release [ ]

"MotorSport" marks the first time Migos, Cardi B, and Minaj have worked together on a song; although Offset had already collaborated with Cardi B on her own track "Lick" and with Minaj on London on da Track's " No Flag ". On October 25, 2017, radio station Hot 93.7 confirmed that a collaboration between Migos, Cardi B, and Minaj would be released two days later. On October 26, the night before its release, Migos previewed the track on Power 105.1's music celebration, Powerhouse. On October 27, the song premiered online and was released worldwide as a digital download. Soon after it was released, Joe Budden from  Everyday Struggle  speculated that  Kanye West  was originally on the song and that he's the one who actually pitched the idea of getting Minaj on it. [6]  It was also rumoured that Cardi B and Minaj were dissing each other on the song, which both rappers denied. Minaj commented on the rumors saying that the song was originally only a collaboration between her and  Quavo , [8]  that she was "in full support of Cardi B's 'Motor Sport' feature" and that "the conspiracy theorists are just so tired…", while Cardi B said that "people wouldn't be satisfied even if [we] was making out…".

Reception [ ]

Minaj's verse on the song was listed by  Complex  as the "Best Rap Verse of the Month" of October 2017.
