Meanwhile, Daniel Kessler recently responded to New Order bandmember Peter Hook’ s past claim that he applied to become  Interpol ‘s new bassist following the departure of Carlos Dengler.

Dengler departed the NYC indie outfit back in 2010 , having been a member since the group’s formation in 1997. Interpol continued as a trio, though their live shows feature additional touring musicians.

Shortly after Dengler quit, former New Order bassist Hook told  LA Weekly  that he’d “applied” to replace the ex-member but claimed he “didn’t get picked”. The musician added: “I applied as Peter Hook, and they turned me down.”

Hook told the outlet at the time that Interpol had released “an internet application form to be a bass player”. The comments came after the interviewer noted that the New Yorkers had a “Joy Division-sounding” style.

Responding to the comparison, Hook said: “I don’t mind it, it has to be taken as a compliment.”

Speaking to  NME  for the ‘Does Rock ‘N’ Roll Kill Braincells?!’ quiz  last month, guitarist Kessler said he wasn’t aware that Hook had put himself forward for the role some 12 years ago.

“I heard some weird rumblings as far as the story and the rumour behind it, but I don’t think I even knew that he supposedly applied online,” he explained.

“I don’t even know to whom or where, but we never received anything and we never had such a discussion.”

For the first time in seven years, U.K. post-punk pioneers New Order will return to North America for a string of shows this October. The seven-date tour kicks off on October 5th at San Francisco’s Oakland Fox Theatre and swings through Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas, New York City, Chicago and Toronto.

“We’ve been having such a great time together this year, playing shows all over Europe, and we’re all really excited to be playing America again,” says singer Bernard Sumner, referring to the group’s recent festival dates and sold-out U.K. tour. “We have so many friends and fans there we can’t wait to get back!”

The trek will also mark New Order’s first stateside run without original bassist Peter Hook, who left the band in 2007 and was replaced by Tom Chapman.

The group’s last stateside show was back in May 2005 at NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Their Toronto date marks the group’s first concert in Canada since 2001.

Peter Hook & The Light Announce 2024 North America Tour

The live dates will see the band play the Substance albums by Joy Division and New Order in full

The live dates will see the band play the Substance albums by Joy Division and New Order in full

Peter Hook & The Light have announced a mammoth run of dates for 2024, taking in full tours of Australia and New Zealand, North America and the UK and Ireland. The live dates will see the band play the Substance albums by Joy Division and New Order in full. Venue pre-sale tickets will be available tomorrow, Wednesday, November 15 from 10am local time with general sale tickets available this Friday, November 17 from 10am local time here: https://peterhookandthelight.live .

Peter Hook first revisited the seminal Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures back in May 2010 for a commemorative charity concert and has followed it each year by performing subsequent albums from the repertoire of his bands, Joy Division and New Order. Peter Hook & The Light have since moved through each of those albums, culminating in the Factory Records Substance compilations, and recently celebrated over four decades of the continuing influence of Joy Division and Ian Curtis with the “Joy Division: A Celebration” concerts where both of the band’s albums were played in full. In October this year the band then played the Substance albums at the biggest-ever London concert at the 5300-capacity Eventim Apollo.

“It still amazes me how enjoyable it is to play the Substance LPs,” says Peter Hook. “The contrast between Joy Division and New Order is very apparent but both complement each other very well. My only frustration is not being able to play more of our records each night. I am totally looking forward to the next phase. So, let’s enjoy some Substance and get ready for the future. Lots of love, Hooky.”

Peter Hook’s dedication to his back catalog has seen him move through Unknown Pleasures, Closer, Still, Movement, Power Corruption & Lies, Low Life, Brotherhood, Technique and Republic to arrive at the point. Having toured these albums extensively, the band has now amassed over 600 concerts.

Among the many highlights since he reintroduced his early repertoire to a legion of new audiences across the world have been appearances at Benicassim, Primavera Sound, Bestival, Kendal Calling, Victorious and Rebellion, alongside sold-out gigs and extensive touring in Europe, North and South America, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand to great acclaim from fans and critics alike.

See below for the itinerary for the No Place Like Tour world tour.

Fans can sign up now for the password to the artist pre-sale, which begins on Tuesday, September 10, at 10:00am local time. General on-sale begins on Friday, September 13, at 10:00am local time at  https://RoleModel.lnk.to/NPLTour .

Role Model  will be joined by special guests  Matilda Mann  in the UK,  Medium Build  in AU/NZ and  Debbii Dawson  on all North American dates except for Denver.

With over 60 million combined global streams to date, Kansas Anymore is a folk-tinged, lyric driven album that encapsulates the warmth and comfort Role Model was seeking while grieving the end of his last relationship. Listen HERE .

He recently performed the single “Deeply Still In Love” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” View HERE . The song has amassed over 16 million combined global streams and taken the internet by storm with more than 371 million views on TikTok across 40,000+ creates. Euphoria. Magazine said, “‘[‘Deeply Still In Love’] is the kind of track that grabs you by the hand and pulls you onto the dance floor of emotions…a rollercoaster ride of love, loss, and longing…”

Awarding Kansas Anymore four stars, DIY marveled that “ a record ostensibly about heartbreak and homesickness can be so overwhelmingly fun, using both genre and trope in parallel ways with just the right level of self-awareness and humour along the way…” In another four-star review, Dork observed, “Role Model’s latest is an artful deviation from his debut, ‘Rx.’ It more boldly leans into folkish roots, choosing breezy, sun-tinged melodies even when navigating the album’s subject matter feels treacherous.”

Role Model is currently on the road with acclaimed singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams as special guest on her sold-out The Secret of Us tour.

About Role Model

Role Model’s been in love. He was so in love he wrote his entire debut album Rx about it. But not all romances last forever, and the 27-year-old’s grieving of his last relationship is at the center of his sophomore album Kansas Anymore .

With over 45 million streams to date, Kansas Anymore is a folk-tinged, lyric driven album that encapsulates the warmth and comfort Role Model was seeking out when he wrote it. Featuring viral singles “Deeply Still in Love” and “Frances,” the album was a two year writing process, and includes production from Noah Conrad, Ian Fitchuk, Scott Harris and Jonah Shy.

Now 27, Role Model initially gained traction with a string of independent singles in 2017, receiving co-signs from Benny Blanco and the late legend Mac Miller. He unassumingly caught fire with projects such as the oh, how perfect and our little angel EPs. In 2021, “forever&more” racked up 60 million Spotify streams as OnesToWatch christened it “one of our favorite songs of the summer.” DIY pegged him among its “Class of 2022,” and he embarked on a massive world tour with stops at Coachella, Hangout Music Festival, Bonnaroo and more. After attaining hundreds of millions of streams and selling out headline shows, Role Model released his full-length debut album, Rx , in 2022, which earned acclaim from HYPEBEAST, Interview, FLAUNT, People, CLASH Magazine and more.

With his new album Kansas Anymore , Role Model is looking forward to playing these songs live, but more than anything, he’s embracing the sense of pride — and closure — he feels about making the album, about turning a personally heavy season of life into something that might move others. As rough as it was to ride that roller coaster of heartbreak and homesickness, Role Model feels these are the greatest songs he’s made yet.
