Why you can trust Top Ten Reviews Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

Responsible Travel has a name that immediately makes it stand out from the other travel sites. This, its founder says, was done intentionally to challenge the holiday industry and to act like a Trojan horse, inspiring change from within. The result is a holiday booking platform that gets you the dream holiday you've always wanted only without the guilt. The company even started the World Responsible Tourism Awards back in 2004, aiming to inspire change in tourism.

Sure, you still have to get a flight in most cases, but the way your trip impacts the local community is taken into account. In fact Responsible Travel aims to help the community with its holidays. On top of that it runs a Trip for Trip scheme which puts profits into helping take children out on day trips for new experiences. It's one of the best online travel sites you can use, and one of the few that puts sustainability at the heart of what it offers.

Responsible Travel offers a wide range of vacations

Responsible Travel: What you get

Responsible Travel offers over 6,000 responsible holidays from 400 providers worldwide, making it ones of the largest green travel companies. It is also an ABTA member meaning your investments are protected so you can be sure you'll get your money back should there be any cancellations. Something like Expedia has more options, but that's a far larger and less responsible operator.

Each holiday is screened for its environmental compliance with a view to help grassroot initiatives and local providers. It was responsible for publishing the first carbon audits of holidays and tries to avoid flights where possible. The company also works to stop orphanage tourism, elephant rides, orca shows and doesn't offer any zoo related trips at all.

Since 2019 the site has been publishing its own travel guides and now features over 650, all of which aim to help educate travelers on how they can have the best holiday while making the right impact.

Responsible Travel cuts out certain types of irresponsible travel

Responsible Travel: Website and user experience

The Responsible Travel website is super minimal, clear and easy to use. Right from the homepage you're met with big, inviting imagery. Across the top are options to search by Destination, Holiday Type, Last Minute, Offers or via the self-published Guides. If you go by location you're met with a guide to the area including maps, local history and community information as well as the best times to go, weather guides and must see sights.

This all makes it a decent option if you're not sure what you want and enjoy the part of picking the holiday. Shopping between a trip to the African plains with the Maasi or bullet train travelling around Japan – not a decision you get to enjoy making too often probably.

Once you've narrowed down a holiday – from a list shown with large images, clear price ranges and traveler review ratings – you are met with more useful information. There's a selection of real images from actual holidays, the price 'from' and 'to' and a list of what's included (or not, in the case of flights). You even get a day by day break-down of the trip saying what you'll be doing and where. You can check dates, prices and availability or hit the "Enquire Or Book" icon.

This takes you to an email webform where you can send your request. Yup, this is a real person dealing with you, not a pre-populated list that you can hit to order instantly. That's a positive for a bespoke booking with a helpful travel team guiding you along, but a negative for anyone that wants to book there and then in a hurry. That said, you can call directly with a number given, if you want to handle everything quickly over the phone, or just prefer the person to person talking.

Extra information on "free from" food options and LGBT (they left off the Q+) friendliness are also welcome additions.

Responsible Travel: Sustainability credentials

Responsible Travel can be a little more expensive, but we think the extra cost is worth it

Responsible Travel works to be eco-friendly on a number of fronts.

Community Primarily it was setup to help create a balance between travellers and local communities. The idea being that both sides gain from the trip so the local communities welcome visitors and share their experience and wisdom with the holidaymakers who's money is giving back to helping sustain that community.

One example of community support, beyond just money, is at the Okavango Delta World Heritage Site where locals take you to the Delta so they get paid for their knowledge of the area. This ecosystem is under threat a dam being built that could cut off its water supply. By informing travellers it's more likely that actions like that will be opposed and the area can be protected.

Environment Travel is kept to small groups for a more intimate experience but also less impact on the environment. This also helps to keep the carbon footprint down and where possible local forms of transport will be used, like trains rather than planes, for example. Gas cooking rather than coal, proper waste disposal and locally owned accommodation use are all ways to help reduce negative environmental impact. And that's just naming a few, there are plenty more listed specific to each holiday.

Climate This gets its own section as its mostly about keeping flights to a minimum. This means taking a longer holiday with fewer flights if possible, avoiding internal flights, picking economy seats, choosing a newer aircraft and packing light. Responsible Travel's founder Justin Francis works with the UK government and has founded the Jet Zero Council which has created legislation to get to zero carbon aviation.

Responsible Travel encourages its holidaymakers to give a review of the trip but unlike many sites this also features a star rating for the eco-friendliness of the offering. The result is a clear view, when browsing the site, of just how good each trip is.

Responsible Travel: Customer reviews

With a Trustpilot review rating of 4.3, with 71% "excellent" ratings, this appears to be a very well received website.

One positive review from Catherine in California said: "I have arranged two trips using Responsible Travel, a group walking tour of Mt. Blanc and a guided cycle trip in Italy. Both booking experiences were smooth and all my questions were handled promptly. The trips used very knowledgeable guides and they were open to using local food and entertainment as well as being mindful about recycling and the environment. I will definitely book through Responsible Travel again. Thank you to the team."

One negative review, from RL in Great Britain, talking about his three star review not appearing said: "My conclusion is that they 'lose' less than perfect reviews." The only other negative review was actually about another company, so this can't count against Responsible Travel.

If you'd rather get more customer reviews before making your vacation decision, we think Priceline is a good pick here.

Should you use Responsible Travel?

If you want all the ease of a holiday that's filled with memory making experiences but without the hassle of organizing it yourself, Responsible Travel is great. But on top of that you are also getting the peace of mind knowing that your trip will impact the environment and local community positively – or at least a lot less negatively than most other options. While travel inherently comes with some kind of impact on the environment, Responsible Travel does its best to acknowledge we, as humans, want to travel and minimizes the negatives of it.

This is a great eco-friendly holiday booking tool that works with a clear, informative and concise website and allows you to book with a helpful and friendly travel team of real-world people. It's not the cheapest but in terms of value you get what you pay for. If you just want cheap at any cost, something like CheapTickets will serve you well.

I have recently returned from an Amazing holiday in Cambodia 'Beyond Angkor'…

I have recently returned from an amazing All Points East holiday in Cambodia-'Beyond Angkor'. All our travel was arranged for us, so we had no worries there. Our guides, who were always extremely knowledgeable, were very friendly and helpful also always on time and caring. The itinerary was varied and enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed visiting the various temples from ancient ones covered in tree roots to the more modern. I would have no hesitation in booking another holiday with 'All Points East' as I know that it would be another 'Experience of a lifetime'.

Reply from Responsible Travel

Dear Susan. So pleased you had an amazing trip and that we were able to connect you with our partner who ran the Cambodia holiday so well.

The best tour operator I've used.

This is the 3rd time I've used Responsible Travel. Each time they have been super friendly and helpful and came up with 4 or 5 suggestions to fit my request. All the holidays I have booked have been excellent.

Hi Marion. So lovely to read your review and thank you for taking the time to write it. I am so pleased that we have been able to help you and that you have had such good holidays.

Fantastic Federica from Trans Humans and Responsible Travel

I have just returned from a 62day trip to South America and Antarctica which Responsible travel helped with by putting me in touch with a few agents who specialise in such trips. The agency, Trans Humans, who we went with, is based in Mendoza Argentina and worked out a very broad and extensive schedule in minute and precise detail. Federica Maliaco, our agent from Trans Humans, worked with us from start to finish. Throughout our trip she was in frequent contact to ensure all our transfers, hotels and flights were as expected. She even informed us of changes in flight times before the airlines. We had a medical emergency in one instance and Federica helped with every detail including attending the hospital with my friend to ensure language issues did not hinder timely treatment. Absolutely fantastic customer service with great attention to every detail.

Date of experience : March 11, 2023

Hello and thank you so much for talking the time to write a review .It sounds like you had an amazing trip and were very well looked after by our partner. I am so pleased and we will let Frederica know

My husband and I booked our honeymoon…

My husband and I booked our honeymoon to Tanzania through Responsible Travel and we cannot recommend using them enough. The team were always so helpful when we got in touch and the trip itself exceeded our expectations. All guides were local and we stayed in small, authentic locally run accommodation which were just wonderful. We will definitely be using Responsible Travel again!

Cycling trip Italy

I recently went on a cycling trip to Italy with Responsible Travel. It was an amazing trip, great local guides, great food, friendly family owned places to stay. I have used Responsible Travel many times before and will do so again.

I would not hesitate to recommend Responsible Travel. We went to them for advice when planning an extended trip to India two years ago & again this year when planning a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

Beware of reviews on their website

S Before my holiday I would have given this company a good review. I probably could have found and booked my Spanish language holiday directly but I was attracted by the authentic sounding reviews. On my return I reviewed the holiday, which I rated 3star for Responsible Travel. I received an acknowledgement saying in fairness to businesses they publish reviews 3 at a time, so I waited. Reviews subsequently appeared, all 5star but not mine. I emailed this previously responsive company to question this- no answer! My conclusion is that they “lose” less than perfect reviews.

Date of experience : October 01, 2019

Hello. I do not know what has happened here as we normally publish all reviews on our site as you can see from our homepage. Apologies that your review was missed.

VERY IMPRESSIVE CUSTOMER CARE

Very impressed with the care offered to clients by UNDISCOVERED DESTINATIONS throughout the COVID-19 situation. The phone was manned throughout lock down, so someone was always available to advise and discuss options. No attempt was made to fob clients off with vouchers to be used at some unspecified future date and refunds were offered willingly in appropriate cases with the company always upfront and honest about the processing timescale. I have now received a full refund for my cancelled trip and will be sure to re book it as soon as travel restrictions are lifted as I feel my holiday is safe with them

Date of experience : June 05, 2020

Great variety of holidays

Great variety of holidays and destinations to choose from, they link you up with small local businesses that would be difficult to find otherwise and you know the businesses will be trustworthy and genuine. It’s a great model.

Date of experience : October 23, 2022

We are so pleased you like what we do! You're right that our partners are very often small local businesses and all our partners share our commitment to making sure you have a great holiday but also one that benefits local communities and nature.

The perfect travel company

We have now used Responsible Travel several times and they have always managed to fulfil our requirements perfectly. Responses from their recommended tour operators have been swift and the choices we have made have worked out extremely well. Their partners abroad all perfectly fulfil the ethical/ conservation-based requirements which we want and expect.

Hi David. I am so pleased that we were able to help and that you have had such good trips. We look forward to helping you with your next one. Thank you for your review.

Most amazing holidays with Responsible Travel

I browse Responsible Travel for hours! I have started a list of all the amazing nature and wildlife holidays that I would love to do. Last year their friendly team helped me find a Sweden kayaking trip (which sadly I had to postpone but easy to do). They are always fast to respond to my emails. I use their travel guides all the time for interesting info. Keep up the good work. I look forward to using your service again and again.

A great way to support local businesses in the country you visit

We used responsible travel as we spotted a Patagonian self drive holiday on their website that we were interested in. Having contacted them and expressed interest they explained that they act as an intermediary to providers in the countries advertised. They said that the relevant company would contact us and that they would also get a few others to contacts us, we received emails within a day or so of the enquiry. We ultimately booked with Trans Humans based in Argentina. They have been excellent, both in helping design our holiday and with the communication once we were away. I did, like some other reviewers, initially wonder what value Responsible Travel add to the process but the reality is that they are enabling these localised smaller businesses to access the UK market and to some extent vetting them. I would use them again.

Date of experience : November 07, 2022

Hi there. Thank you for your review and for trusting us to find you a good local company for your tour of Patagonia. Also so pleased you had a great trip. Not only do we try and support locally based operators, we also ensure they care about local communities and nature. I am so pleased you will trust us again and do remember to use your loyalty discount next time!

Relaxing holiday with lovely hiking

We were finally able to enjoy the holiday that we booked before the pandemic shutdown and can say that it was well-worth the wait. Colina Flora exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The accommodations were spacious, welcoming and comfortable. The staff ensured our needs were exceeded and provided excellent recommendations for hikes, restaurants, galleries, and site seeing at every turn. The breakfast every morning was a highlight with excellent, locally-sourced consistent items and a surprise treat that was different every day. The Inn provided a relaxing environment with spacious rooms, a wonderful guest kitchen and many sitting areas around the property. It was easy to enjoy many walks/hikes of varying levels of difficulty immediately from the Inn or a short bus ride away.

Date of experience : September 25, 2022

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your trip and we are so pleased it exceeded your expectations. We will make sure our partner Colina Flora also see your lovely feedback.

Memories to last a lifetime

Two friends and I have just returned from walking part of the Northern Camino and Picos mountains in Northern Spain. The trip was exceptional in so many ways. In particular I would highlight the thought and care that went into planning the itinerary, the quality and locations of the hotels, the smooth running of the travel arrangements, including baggage transportation and taxi rides, the friendliness of all the people we encountered and - above all, of course - the stunning countryside of Cantabria and Asturias. The contrast between four days walking on the Camino and two days spent in the Picos di Europa made for holiday with so many memories, which will last for a lifetime.

Date of experience : September 11, 2023

Hi Phillippa. Thank you for your review and we are so pleased you had such a great trip. From someone who has just returned from walking another 4 stages of the Camino I understand what you mean about the stunning countryside.

Best Independent Travel Advice

I can absolutely rely on Responsible Travel for truly independent great advice. They always take the time to understand our requirements and then provide detailed advice , planning and booking services We have enjoyed several major trips with their assistance and perhaps most importantly it’s just fantastic to have a source of advice that we can trust without hesitation I shall certainly be returning to Responsible to plan all future trips

Travel Ethically

Our Guide, Abdellah (Intrepid), was passionate about his country and focused our attentions towards local services, people and products - we were even invited to dine with a Berber family. I am richer for my experience in Morocco

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and I am so pleased you had such a good trip to Morocco and you could see first hand how your holiday benefited local communities. Please remember your loyalty discount and we would love to help you organise your next adventure.

I'm so happy I discovered Rosy

I'm so happy I discovered Rosy and booked my yoga retreat in France through them. The range of vacations they offer are so enticing - I'll surely be back!

We are so glad you found us too! So pleased you enjoyed your retreat and we are to help with your next trip.

Tigers of India

Outstanding customer service in arranging our independent trip to India for tiger safaris The trip was arranged through Chinkara Journeys who did a fantastic job with such attention to detail meaning we could fulfill a trip of a lifetime

Date of experience : March 05, 2024

Hi John. So pleased to hear you had such a good tiger safari and that it felt like a trip of a lifetime.

Narrow-minded Regarding Disabled People

I’ve used Responsible for Travel before when booking my trip to Bolivia and it was wonderful. This time I enquired about a trip to Indonesia, asking if part of it could be changed as I was blind and cycling was an issue. A representative got back to me saying being blind I couldn’t do the tour and suggested others which were more ‘accessible’. A discussion with the tour provider refuted this claim and they disagreed, saying someone like me who’d clambered over rocks in the Dali desert and the Bolivian salt flats would have no problems with Indonesia. In short, Responsible for Travel while having an excellent ethos, is backwards in is views reading disabled people – a real disappointment. Therefore if you are disabled, ask the tour operator if you can do your tour as they’re likely to give you a less narrow-minded and more honest answer, rather than Responsible for Travel, which is still in the dark ages when it comes to breaking boundaries and doing things differently.

Date of experience : December 06, 2022

Hi there. I am so sorry to read your review, especially as we had arranged a wonderful trip for you before. We are trying to offer as many accessible trips as possible and learn more about how to make our holidays as inclusive as possible. We currently have 132 trips marked as accessible and are constantly looking for more. We do realise that we are on a journey and have more to learn about accessibility and I do feel we are open-minded and open to learning and change. We talk to our partners frequently and base our advice on which trips are suitable to which customers on what they tell us so I am so sorry you the advice you got from us and our partner were not the same. I am happy to double your loyalty discount if can give us another chance. I can be contacted on [email protected]

4 days on a Felucca on the Nile

We had a wonderful 4 day trip in a Felucca on the Nile. We were 4 travellers with 4 crew- the captain, the cook, and two people who sailed. The crew were wonderful and kind and funny. Karim made sure everything went smoothly and was incredibly hospitable. At night we stopped at the side of the Nile where no other tourists go. No electricity or running water. Really tranquil. During the day we stopped at villages, markets and archeological sites. I hope to go again to a different part of the Nile.

Really great trip and rewarding…

Really great trip and rewarding experience with the Mahouts Elephant Foundation in Thailand. We learned so much about the people, the culture, the land, animals, forest and food and made what I hope will be friends and connections for life. A piece of our heart remains in the village.

Dear Alan. What a wonderful review - thank you so much for telling us about your trip which sounds life changing. We will make sure our partner also see your lovely feedback.

The most professionally organized trip.

This was the most professionally organized trip. As complex was our customized wishes: different counties, different cities, in the span of 3 weeks and 3000 km for a group of eight. I never believed it could be organized in such a perfect way without even a glitch. Thanks Rosie and the team!

horrible experience

My whole experience with Responsible Travel was just horrible. From the initial email, which I had to chase up anyway, through the phone call with Margot, to getting the actual quote. And when I say quote, I mean a sentence written in an email to say my trip will cost between £8-£12K, where all other travel agents quoted £3,5K per person, sent full itinerary with detailed breakdown and were just a a dream to speak to. Margot needs to change her line of work, her customer service skills are literally non-existent.

Date of experience : 29 November 2018

HI Marta. I was sorry to read your review but we have not ever had anyone by the name of Margot working for us. If you would be happy to trust us with your next trip please do contact rosy@responsibletravel,com and we would be delighted to help you

Holiday Enquiry...No Response...

Sent an enquiry via their website asking for specific details and prices of the Scotland trip they advertised. Received nothing back other than having been signed up to their mailing list. If you've got an on-line presence that attracts interest then respond to it.

Hi Andy. I am sorry you did not receive a reply from one of our partners. Did you check your spam folder as sometimes their replies end up in there? If not please do contact us at [email protected] and we can help you with your trip

Wonderful Galapagos trip!

Wonderful Galapagos trip! Responsible Travel listened to my rather long wish list and recommended a Galapagos holiday. We went earlier in the year and had the most amazing time. We loved our time both on and off the boat, the diving was incredible and we've made some great friends. We highly recommend RT!

Responsible Travel are totally reliable in their recommendations. When sustainability and supporting local communities is a priority, then please turn to them. We have just returned from a superb trip to South India with Bespoke India travel, a small brilliant company we would not have heard of without Responsible Travel. We have used RT before and will use them again

I have used Responsible Travel many times now. What I love about them is the variety of holiday destinations types of holidays you can do.

Booked a trip to Australia with Responsible Travel. They connected me to a local tour company, who were so incredible at putting together an itinerary. Had to fly home early due to COVID but the part of the trip we did do was fab.

Responsible Travel are Very Professional and Attentive to Detail. Excellent.

I found this company by accident. I was looking for a walking holiday in Spain. What they came up with is a walking holiday where I also will learn Spanish with classes and walking in the afternoon. Staying with Spanish locals for 2 weeks in Asturias is just what I was looking for but I did not know who could provide it - as ABTA members I have the backing of their membership and the help and assistance is finding the holiday I wanted. They linked me with a small business in northern Spain who have organised everything and at what I think is a reasonable price. There website is well worth a visit. They cover the whole world with not you normal "run of the mill" holidays. Thanks again

Bolivia - an amazing country

Responsible Travel recommended Undiscovered Destinations for our delayed (due to covid) holiday to Bolivia. We were excited but rather nervous about altitude sickness, standards etc. We didn't need to worry. Juan our guide was amazing and is a walking encyclopaedia. He knows everything. Our trip was planned by him to prevent altitude sickness and see the highlights of the country. Everywhere we stayed had something different to offer, from history to archaeology to geology to plants to dinosaur footprints to staying in a hotel made of salt and top of the list were the Salt Flats. They are stunning. From there we continued to stand on the highest desert in the world and visit La Paz, the highest city in the world. I travelled with my friend who is blind. She really appreciated that on some visits she was allowed to touch things of interest. People are very friendly and are trying to make places more inclusive for those with disabilities. Juan guided her occasionally so we told him he's also now a "qualified" sighted guide!

Wonderful travels in Greece with Mr Bill Huntington …

My partner and I experienced a wonderful stay and archaeological tour in Greece with Mr Bill Huntington - historian extraordinaire! We have spent 2 months hiking, journeying and living Greece and all its wonders and our 10 days spent at Bill's lovely Lavender Lodge and tour through the steps of the ancients was a highlight...and fantastic! Bill is an engaging, gregarious and caring host who assisted us in every way he could to make our trip through the Pelopponese incredible. We highly recommend anyone out there with an adventurous spirit who wishes to experience the real Greece - take a tour with Bill!

Extremely knowledgeable and efficient travel agency

We came into contact with Responsible Travel when searching for Antarctica cruises. Charlotte Caffrey demonstrated quickly how extremely knowledge and efficient her service was in directing us to a number of options. Holly Payne nearer to our departure assisted with the pre departure paperwork and was also excellent. Our chosen expedition on MS FRAM ( the Hurtigruten line ) suited us perfectly and we will be booking through Responsible Travel again as a consequence.

Hi Lucy. Thank you for your review and for booking with us. So pleased you had such a good experience and cruise. Please do remember your loyalty discount for next time!

Reliable and creative

I get terrific ideas and referrals from Responsible Travel, though the booking is through other companies. I've always gotten prompt and polite responses from them, and I appreciate the company ethos of sustainable travel. I've done 2-3 trips so far, and always look at them first.

Thank you for your kind words and for trusting us with your trips. We look forward to helping you with your next!

Holiday to Finnish Lapland…

I booked a holiday to Finnish Lapland with Responsible Travel, travelling in Jan 2020 and had the most incredibly magical holiday. We stayed in the Arctic wilderness in an old converted Sami school, taking part in winter activities from husky sledding, snowshoeing, meeting a reindeer herder and more. All staff working at and for the hotel were local so it really felt like we were helping to support the surrounding communities with our stay. This is something that Responsible Travel pride themselves in and the reason I looked for my holiday via their website. I really couldn't fault the experience and hope to go back someday. Fantastic!

It's so refreshing to find a company…

It's so refreshing to find a company that matches your outlook on the tourist industry. They have inspired me so much and helped me out with trips. They have these amazing travel guides on their website which help as they are packed full of information. The reviews come from real people who have been on the trips and are all honest, I really like the section about how it helped the environment and locals. I will always go through them to find another trip and they match you up with what you want not what they think you should want. Thanks RT!!

Anything but Responsible Travel

Used this company to organise an activity trip to Croatia. As you pay and deal with the provider directly there is no protection under UK law should the provider cease trading etc. This was queried at the time of booking but assurances given that we would be protected. Our tour provider cancelled with only 11 days notice and the only email we had from Responsible Travel was that we should claim through our credit card company or travel insurance. I am not sure what function Responsible Travel provide as they have no responsibility for any problems encountered after the initial introduction. They seem to be an agency that puts you in touch with operators but at that their involvement/responsibility ends.

Date of experience : 11 August 2022

HI there. Firstly I am so sorry your holiday was cancelled. It is rare but still very distressing when it happens. In our 21 years we have had very few cancellations and when they have happened we have helped all our customers get their money back or an alternative holiday. We have a number of ways we can help you so please do get in touch via [email protected]. Update (6th Oct 22) I am pleased to say that most customers now have either had a holiday or got their money back. If this is not the case for you please do contact me - [email protected] Best wishes Tim

Fabulous Trip to Cuba

Recently returned from a fabulous holiday in Cuba staying with local families, discovering the amazing countryside and learning about the history. Our busy trip worked seamlessly, so many thanks to Marcel at Latin American Journeys Guru for organising and the guides on the ground. We wouldn't hesitate to book with them again.

So pleased you had such a great trip to Cuba. Looking forward to helping you with your next adventure and do remember your loyalty discount for next time!

The story of The Umbrella Academy starts on a very important date: October 1, 1989. In the show's original timeline, this is the day that 43 women around the world mysteriously gave birth despite showing no signs of being pregnant beforehand. Of those 43 children, seven were adopted by eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who raised them to save the world. Things went awry, however, when they accidentally caused the apocalypse and had to use time travel to set things right – multiple times. Each sibling's experiences with time travel have made it difficult to keep track of their actual ages in the present day, even though they were all born on the same day.

On top of that, the siblings' time meddling has given way to alternate timelines, complete with new variants of some of the same characters. As complicated as it can get, it doesn't change the fact that they are all still one big, dysfunctional family. Before audiences catch up with the Hargreeves in the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy , here's how old all of its main characters are across the first three seasons.

Luther Hargreeves Took a Long Time to Grow Up

Review: the umbrella academy season 3 leans darker, wilder & more endearing.

The Umbrella Academy's third season is a dark, character-centric addition to the series that works thanks to a committed cast and solid writing.

As Reginald's Number One, Luther Hargreeves acted as the siblings' leader and stayed at the Academy even after everyone else left. When he was 25, he went on a disastrous solo mission and almost died, leading Reginald to inject him with a serum that saved his life but mutated him into a human-ape hybrid. Unable to face what he'd done, Reginald sent Luther to the moon for four years with a fake mission to keep him busy. Luther returned at 29 to attend his father's funeral in Season 1.

Luther jumped to the past with the rest of his siblings but got stranded in 1962 in Dallas, Texas. He then reunited with his siblings a year later to prevent another doomsday and return to 2019. This makes Luther about 30 years old during the events of The Umbrella Academy Seasons 2 and 3. Age-wise, it also makes him the middle sibling of the family.

Diego Hargreeves Matured From Rebellious Vigilante to Semi-Responsible Adult

Diego Hargreeves, aka Number Two , left home at 18 and enrolled in the police academy. He was later kicked out and became a vigilante instead. At age 29, he returned home for Reginald's funeral like the rest of his siblings. Diego soon became entrenched in the events leading up to the apocalypse and ended up in Dallas in 1963, just a couple of months before President John F. Kennedy's assassination.

Due to his hero complex, Diego became obsessed with saving JFK and was put into a psychiatric hospital. He and fellow patient Lila Pitts broke out days before the assassination and met up with his siblings. While he couldn't save Kennedy, Diego did prevent another apocalypse and jumped back to 2019 with his family. Since all three seasons of The Umbrella Academy took place within a few months for him, Diego is about 29 years and eight months old when Season 3 ends , making him the third-youngest sibling.

Lila Pitts Was Raised by a Sinister Time Traveler

Although they didn't realize it until later, Lila was among the 37 children Reginald didn't adopt. When she was four years old, Lila's parents were killed, and she was taken in by the Handler. The Handler raised Lila as a Commission assassin and eventually sent her to spy on Diego and Five in 1963. Lila fell in love with Diego but stood by her adopted mother until she discovered that the Handler was behind her parents' murder.

Lila stole a briefcase and escaped to 1989 Berlin, where she discovered that she was pregnant. She then jumped to 2019 with her friend's son, Stanley, and told Diego he was their child to see how he'd be as a father. Since she was raised outside of time, it's unclear how old Lila is in Season 2, but she seems close to Diego's age , and considering her relatively unchanged appearance in Season 3, she likely wasn't in Berlin for too long.

Allison Hargreeves Has Been on Quite a Journey

The umbrella academy season 2: same quirky sensibility, but with less angst.

Traveling to a different time and place serves The Umbrella Academy well in its second season, making for a looser, funnier, more exciting show.

Allison Hargreeves was one of the first siblings to leave after Ben's death, which would've made her around 17 or 18 at the time. She built a successful career as an actor, got married, and had a daughter named Claire, but she lost custody when she and her husband divorced. Allison then attended Reginald's funeral with her siblings at 29 and jumped to the past with them when they failed to save the world.

Afterward, Allison found herself stuck in 1961 Dallas, where she got involved in local politics and met activist Raymond Chestnut. She and Ray married a year later. Another year passed, and Allison reunited with her siblings again to stop another apocalypse. She returned to 2019, hoping to find Claire but ended up in a new timeline where Claire didn't exist. This means Allison was about 31 in The Umbrella Academy Seasons 2 and 3 , making her the third-eldest sibling.

Klaus Hargreeves Has Had Plenty of His Own Time Travel Fiascos

Although he can summon the dead, Klaus Hargreeves was still affected by Ben's death at 17 and left home not long after. He attended his adoptive father's funeral with the rest of his siblings at 29 but got kidnapped by Commission assassins Hazel and Cha Cha not long after. Klaus took their briefcase when he escaped and ended up in the Vietnam War, where he met and fell in love with a soldier named Dave. After Dave's death ten months later, Klaus returned to 2019.

Klaus ended up in 1960 when he and his siblings jumped back in time at the end of The Umbrella Academy Season 1. After starting a cult and traveling the world, he met up with his siblings again in 1963 and jumped back to 2019 after they saved the world. With all the time jumps, Klaus is about 33 in Season 3 , which makes him the second-eldest sibling.

Five Hargreeves Was Gone for a Long Time

Number Five Hargreeves spent the most time apart from his family, having used his powers to jump to a post-apocalyptic 2019 when he was 13 years old. He was then stuck there for over 40 years before the Handler appeared to offer him a job at the Commission. It's unknown how long he worked there, but Five eventually jumped back to pre-apocalypse 2019. The process turned him back into a 13-year-old, but Five was still mentally about 58.

When Five jumped back in time again in Season 2, he was the last sibling to arrive in 1963. He witnessed another apocalypse, but Hazel took him back ten days so he could prevent it. After doing so, Five and his siblings used a briefcase to return to 2019 again. All three seasons of The Umbrella Academy take place in a matter of weeks for Five, but his years spent in the future still make him the eldest sibling.

Ben Hargreeves' Death Wasn't the End

Review: the umbrella academy shakes up the superhero formula.

Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is a faithful adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's comic and an interesting standout in the superhero genre.

Although the audience has yet to discover just what happened in the infamous "Jennifer incident" of 2006, the event resulted in Ben's death at 17 years old . Unbeknownst to his siblings, Klaus used his powers to summon Ben's ghost, and Ben chose to stay instead of moving on to the afterlife. Ben even aged alongside Klaus and accompanied him on his adventures through time. Ben then gave his life again to talk to Viktor and stop the apocalypse in 1963.

The Hargreeves discovered in The Umbrella Academy Season 3 that their presence in the 1960s created a new timeline in which Reginald created the Sparrow Academy and Ben didn't die. This new Ben was not a fan of the Umbrellas, but after losing all his siblings throughout the season and ending up in yet another timeline, he doesn't have anyone else. Season 3's Ben is about 29 and a half, making him the youngest of the current siblings.

Viktor Hargreeves Has Spent the Least Amount of Time With His Powers

Viktor Hargreeves believed for most of his life that he didn't have powers. This was because Reginald, fearing he couldn't control him, made Allison use her powers to make Viktor forget he had abilities at just six years old. Viktor then rediscovered his powers at 29 after Reginald died. After Luther locked him up in the basement, Viktor acted out and caused the end of the world , but the siblings jumped back in time to fix it.

Upon landing in Dallas in October 1963, Viktor was hit by a car and got amnesia. He was taken in by a housewife named Sissy and her son, Harlan. A month later, Viktor discovered his powers again, reunited with his siblings, and regained his memories. After preventing another apocalypse, he returned with them to 2019. This means Viktor is about 29 years and seven months old in The Umbrella Academy Season 3 , making him the second-youngest sibling.

Reginald Hargreeves' Lifespan Is Inhuman

Although he may appear human, Sir Reginald Hargreeves is something else entirely. Sometime far in the past, he left his home world and his dying partner, Abigail, and came to Earth. Disguised as a human, Reginald came to the United States in 1928, making him over 90 years old in the show's present day . He went on to adopt seven special children, raising them to save the world and taking his own life to bring them all back together in 2019.

In the next timeline, Reginald found a portal to another dimension in 1918 and built the Hotel Obsidian there, making him over 100 in the present day. He later met six of his future children in 1963 and went on to adopt six other babies in 1989. When the Umbrella Academy showed up in 2019, Reginald used the Umbrellas and Sparrows to reboot the universe. In The Umbrella Academy Season 4's timeline, he's alive again, as is Abigail.

A lifetime experience

A lifetime experience that we recommend everybody to have. My husband and I had a friend's wedding in Peru in May and as it was our first time in Latin America, we have decided to contact Responsible Travel Peru as we wanted a local agency that could give us the best local experiences. Since the beginning Myrna Lozada was in contact with us, designing our trip according to our desires and advising us on the best places to go given the time we had taken to be in Peru - two weeks. We did not have any problem, all taxis and transportation were there on time to pick us up, the hotels were very good with nice staff, the guides were amazing (a special thanks to Gabriela, our private guide in Cusco who we really enjoyed spending time with) and the cherry on the top of the cake was the community tourism we did in Coporaque. We suggest it to everybody now as it was a lifetime experience to be with a local family for two days. This is the kind of tourism that everybody should do at least once in their life as this is the best way to get to know the country and its people. I had a small problem with my luggage that was delayed for one week and a small health issue and Myrna was always advising me on places to go and what to do. Even in less good moments, Responsible was there. We would chose again and again without thinking twice Responsible Travel Peru for our travels :)

Immersive experience

I booked 3 tours with Responsible Travel Peru within one week (one overnight stay on Taquile island / Titicaca lake and two 1-day tours in the Sacred Valley). The team of the agency was extremely responsive and helpful in organizing the plan, everything went perfectly well. Contact and communication with the local guides and native people participating in the activities were authentic, full of positive energy and “insider” information, making the trips (in particular the homestay on Taquile island) to truly immersive experiences. Thank you !

Dear Dinette & Marijke, thank you very much for traveling RESPONSible! The 15 days you spent in Peru defined our essence very well: picking the Coffee Route to Machu Picchu instead of any other more conventional way and then the Santa Cruz trek around our beloved Huaraz, where our company was born. Thanks also for your great review. Best wishes!

Recently returned from Peru organized …

Recently returned from Peru organized by Responsible. Simply gave them our flight arrival & a list of what we wanted 2 do. Organized our 2 week trip hour by hour. From the drivers who transported us between airports, hotels n train stations to the guides who walked us around Lima, thru the Andes and up M Picchu. Extremely accommodating and knowledgeable staff booked all the hotels, organised lunch boxes, booked riding. We just had to turn up - no stress, no worries..didn't even have to think! Thank you, Alison

Glad to know that that was accomplished. Thank you for choosing us and for taking the time for writing such a great comment regarding our services.

Excellent trip

Excellent trip, good hotels, well organized and planned. We especially want to recommend our wonderful guide in the Andes, Eloy Chambi Molina. Very knowledgeable, deeply connected to the old culture, he taught us about the plants and flowers along the trails, the customs and practices of the peoples of the Inca empire. He added so much to our experience. A terrific very engaging person. Highly recommended.

Yes Michael, that is our Eloy! We will extend him your compliments, although you probably did it in person. Thank you very much for trusting us and for your review. Best wishes

We will let Eloy knows about your opinion and we are more than sure that he will react with that big smile he is used to sharing with everybody.

Taylormade roundtrip jan 2022 Peru

We spent almost 10 days with this excellent team in Peru and Bolivia. The whole tour was absolutely perfect! Organization, guides, support, hotels selection, local families etc etc. Resp travel agency is definitely one of the best organizations we have travelled with so far. I really wish there is more such professionals in this area in other countries!

Thank you so much for your review Milota!

Absolutely fantastic travel company

I can’t recommend this travel company enough. I was a bit wary of booking through a local provider with the lack of ATOL protection but read the reviews and decided to take a risk and am so glad I did! We had a tailormade itinerary booked for us (at very short notice) which included both the local trip to Manu (Amazon) and the Salkantay trek. We had all the information we could have needed to decide on our trip and whilst we were out there. We were met at every point with someone holding a sign so had no stress at all. The WhatsApp group they created was fantastic with someone always on hand - we had an issue with our trek (subcontractor not response), put a message into the chat and went off to the Amazon safe in the knowledge it would be sorted out when we returned (and it was, almost immediately). The experiences were even better than we expected and we will definitely use this company next time we come back to Peru!

Dear Abigail & Martin, thank you very much for your great review. It makes the entire RESPONSible Travel Peru team so happy to know that you really enjoyed your trip in Peru. You have chosen a tailor-made program that allows you to appreciate both the nature of the jungle and the Andes Mountains and we are delighted to read that we were able to organize the trip for you so that you could enjoy every moment of it. Best wishes and always welcome to Peru!

Great service

We used Responsible Travel Peru services in our trip to Peru in October 2017. The service was very good, everything was very well organized and the experiences were great. We can also highlight the attention we received from the staff. We hope to repeat the experience in the near future.

Dear Neuza, we hope to see you again in the near future as well. Thank you so much for travelling with us. We are very glad to read your comments.

Everything is very well organized

Everything is very well organized, everyone is in time. Nice to have good local guides en drivers. The places to stay are always very special, not a regular hotel. I can strongly recommend this company.

Thank you very much Maria! We work hard to accomplish the goal of having happy clients at the end of their trips. Good to know you are one more happy traveller that got to know a different face of Peru

Amazing tour to Machu Picchu sleeping at coffee farms!

I had an amazing time during my 3 days Trekking with Responsible Travel (I took the tour called "La aventura del cafe 3d/2n, a 3 days trekking to Machu Picchu). On this tour, you get the chance to sleep for 2 nights at local coffee farms, so, instead of sleeping in tents, we had a warm and confortable room, and also the owners of the farm prepared our dinner and breakfast with local food - and it was delicious! They were so lovely, and we could also do a walking tour at the coffee fields and see the processing facilities. In the end, we enjoyed samples of the coffee they produce there. Beside of that, the trekking was also good. Our guide, Miguel, was very attentive. He speaks spanish and english. We were on a group of just 2 (me and myboyfriend), plus the guide, so everything was made just for us. I highly recommend Responsible Travel if you are looking for tours with small groups, good guides, and personal attention. Everything was perfect from the time they came to my hotel to explain the tour, to the moment we ended the tour and arrived at Aguas Calientes to visit Machu Picchu!

Dear Carla, Thank you for your review, we are very glad that you have enjoyed the Coffee Route with us. Best regards, The RESPONS team

Experience-Enhancing Agency

My experience with Reponsable has just been fantastic. I find personalizing one´s trip an exciting way to explore not only Peru, but also other countries. I first had a WhatsApp call with Alejandro to explain him my destination, trip duration and especially, what are my interest points. After that, Alejandro returned me with his great insight and feedback, introducing me the routes & possibilities that I´d never thought or read that Cusco & Titicaca would offer me. - The guide that they offered me was amazing! Not only knowledgeable, but also very caring and good photographer (for a sole traveler, this is essential)! You can notice that, when they are well paid, they are more willing to perfect their job - Surprisingly, I did my first mountain bike in my life in Ollantaytambo - I did a llama trek solely, basically walked up to a hill in companion with apx 15 llamas, with 2 natives and had a quite picnic - I spent the whole Christmas with Titicaca´s natives and I even explored villages and regions in which seemingly I was the only foreigner during that period The whole wasn´t cheap, but certainly every penny was worthy taking into considerations that all the brand new experience that I had and all the unbelievable stuff I did.

Dear Chenyu, It was a real pleasure to organize your trip. We also enjoy preparing once in a lifetime experiences and the best reward is to receive reviews like yours. It is always a challenge we like to accept and now we are sure you keep great memories of your time in Peru. Best wishes as always!

An excellent travel in Peru!

We had probably one of the best experiences in our travel history. Thanks for the excellent organization, the best front team in Peru!!

Thank you Leo, it is very rewarding to know your experience was that good. We liked your description of us as: "the best front team in Peru". We will keep working on it

Amazing, unforgettable experience for a solo female traveller!

The main aim of my trip was to practice Spanish in various homestays to gain an insight into Peruvian culture, and that is exactly what I got! I was so impressed with how smoothly everything went, and how my personal travel advisor, Pauline, was able to organize such a unique experience. That I could message Pauline, Rosbert or their colleagues on Whatsapp was especially useful during transfers if taxis did not turn up on time, and gave me reassurance that if anything did go wrong I could always get help. I also wanted to mention the taxi drivers (I don’t know their names!) that picked me up in Lima when I first arrived, and the taxi driver that dropped me off in my final days in Lima, because they were extremely welcoming and talkative which put me at ease as soon as I arrived. It makes such a difference having good taxi drivers because they were often a friendly reassurance when I first arrived anywhere, as well as an extra chance to practice more Spanish. The tips Respons gave me of things to do when I had free time really helped with structuring my days. The Colca Canyon was one of the best weekends I’ve had. Both these families in Sibayo and Coporaque were so friendly and welcoming, and I would love to return to see them again and explore more of the Canyon another time! I also really enjoyed the Salkantay Trek, making good friends, enjoying the delicious meals, and exploring the beautiful landscapes, with the reassurance of being able to use the back-up van when I injured my knee. It’s so good to know that the company acts as a mini-NGO providing support, training and guidance for local communities and training female porters. I also enjoyed the Albergue Pankotsi experience in Manu. I particularly enjoyed getting to know Jesús and Walter, and Juan Carlos was also so kind and helpful and everyone did such a good job at giving me a memorable and enjoyable experience! I especially enjoyed the jewellery-making workshop with the kind owner’s wife and daughters (I feel awful to have forgotten their names!) and it was good to meet women from the community. I loved all the hotels I stayed in, and Ninos Hotel in Cusco was especially good to have as a luxury break from the rest of the homestays and treks. I didn’t realize their restaurant runs from 6am-10pm until I got there, which was even more of an extra. It is so great to know that my trip has contributed to sustainable tourism, benefitting Peruvians as much as possible, rather than a big package-deal international company. Overall, my trip was a fantastic experience and I’ve come back home with a love of Peru and definitely wanting to return again to re-visit some of the same places and explore more of the north as well!

Hello again Lydie! (this time answering in the same language) Thank you so much for taking the time of reviewing us after such a comprehensive trip and giving other travelers the opportunity to feel safe when planning to do a similar solo journey like yours. We wish you a good recovery from your injury so your future traveling plans keep on going. Northern Peru is also great! We really appreciate your mention of all the people involved with your peruvian experience and the fact that one of your goals was to practice our language to get a closer cultural approach. Gracias por viajar con nosotros de manera responsable.
