Metallica Post Video of Full 1983 Concert From First-Ever Tour

As part of their ongoing #MetallicaMondays series, which has found Metallica posting complete concerts from across their career, the band has just shared a one-hour video from 1983 when they embarked on their first-ever tour.

The concert, which took place in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 12, 1983, captured a moment in time when a young Metallica were finding their way in the early metal scene, unaware of the thrash movement they'd spearheaded and their soon-to-be major impact on the genre. At the time, James Hetfield had just turned 20, as was Kirk Hammett . Lars Ulrich was only 19 and Cliff Burton had celebrated his 21st birthday earlier in the year.

In the video below, Ulrich provides a quick introduction before turning the clock back 37 years to the club show where Metallica pounded out seven original songs in addition to a guitar solo near the end of the set with the spotlight placed on Hammett.

The set was naturally fixed on Metallica's debut album, Kill 'Em All , which had just dropped a couple weeks prior to the Illinois concert, where the only tracks not performed from the record were "Hit the Lights," "The Four Horsemen" and "Motorbreath."

Watch the complete concert below and see the full set list further down the page.

Metallica have once again raided the vaults for their weekly ‘Metallica Mondays’ series, this time revisiting their ‘Kill ‘Em All For One’ tour.

The band have gone all the way back to 12 August, 1983, selecting a gig from The Metro in Chicago, from the ‘Kill ‘Em All For One’ trek – the titanic metal outfit’s first-ever national tour, during which they supported Raven. The setlist features tracks including ‘No Remorse’, ‘Whiplash’, ‘Metal Militia’ and ‘Phantom Lord’ and you can check the show out below.

Metallica: Live in Chicago, Illinois - August 12, 1983 (Full Concert... Mostly)

Introducing the set, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says: “This goes back to the summer of 1983, so about 400 years ago on our first tour with our buddies in Raven. We were going across America, just trying to figure it all out.

‘the boys are back in town’: thin lizzy break out of jail and into hot 100.

“Two of the clips appeared on the Cliff ‘Em All collection and the full gig was included in the Kill ‘Em All box set. The audio didn’t start recording until after Hit The Lights!”

Ulrich adds: “This was nine days after James Hetfield’s 20th birthday, I was 19, Kirk Hammett is 20 and Cliff Burton is 21.”

The band have been uploading some of their favourite shows to their YouTube channel over the last two months, including sets from Slane Castle in Ireland, their 2012 tour in celebration of their ‘Black Album’ and their set at London’s House Of Vans in 2016 .

Elsewhere in Metallica news, the band have just launched Batch 100 of their Blackened whiskey, with a limited edition package featuring two picture discs, a fanzine and more.

Earlier this month, Metallica announced their ‘Month Of Giving’ charity drive in association with their All Within My Hands Foundation . The band are also selling a range of items on their online store which are marked with the tag ‘Month Of Giving’. Proceeds from sales of these items, which include t-shirts, caps, hoodies and more, will go to parter organisations throughout May.

We obviously had to include one of the biggest concerts of all time on this list as well.
Let’s say you're a Metallica fan, and you had the option only to own one live recording of all their performances. This recording took place after the huge success of The Black Album. It would also combine two performances that took place between 1992 and 1993.
