CruiseMapper logo

Celestyal Cruises has unveiled its 2025 itinerary program and confirmed the imminent launch of its 2026 collection.

Currently available for booking, the company's 2025 schedule comprises 5 itineraries, and a total of 113 departures. These voyages encompass destinations such as Greece, Italy, Egypt, Turkey, Croatia, and Montenegro, spanning sailings of three to 14 nights departing between April and October 2025.

The fleetmates Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey , are both undergoing refurbishments in Piraeus-Athens .

Responding to high demand, the program introduces two versions of the 7-night "Heavenly Adriatic" itinerary, set to debut in 2025. The overwhelming popularity of this itinerary has led Celestyal Cruises to establish it as a permanent deployment feature for 2025.

The Adriatic Sea voyages, scheduled for March, April, and October (2025) visit destinations in Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, and Italy. The program features 6 maiden ports - Kefalonia , Dubrovnik , Kotor , Corfu , Bari , and Katakolon . The July and August (2025) sailings will additionally include a maiden call to Venice , with prices starting at GBP 500.

Simultaneously, the Celestyal travel brand has rebranded its onboard package offerings. Passengers can now choose between the Celestyal Experience (formerly known as the all-inclusive fare), which covers onboard dining, select drinks with meals, gratuities, a GBP 65 shore excursion discount, and port charges, and the Celestyal Plus Experience. The latter includes a 25% discount in either of the two specialty restaurants, premium drinks with meals, a GBP 130 shore excursion discount, and Wi-Fi.

As part of its winter promotion, Celestyal is providing a 50% discount on all Celestyal Plus Experience packages, along with reduced single supplements and discounted child fares.

Celestyal reshapes Journey’s maiden 2024 season

Celestyal

Celestyal has confirmed newly-launched Celestyal Journey will visit three new countries and six new ports as part of its reshaped maiden 2024 season.

The 1,260-guest ship, which entered service in September this year, will call for the first time in Croatia, Montenegro and Italy from Greece, with maiden calls to Kefalonia, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Corfu, Bari and Katakolo.

The updated itineraries replace the previous Three Continents route the ship was due to sail on. Celestyal is switching pre-booked guests to the new voyages at current promotional rates, and giving them a free Three Continents cruise to “thank them for their loyalty”.

The Celestyal trade team is liaising with agents who have customers set to travel with the updated information. Celestyal confirmed commissions will be preserved on all rebooked cruises.

The new itineraries include a seven-night Heavenly Adriatic sailing, which will depart 2 March and feature full days in each destination, as well as a late-night stay in Dubrovnik. The itinerary will appear again in 2025, with details to be confirmed in due course.

Journey will also sail a new seven-night Idyllic Aegean itinerary on 9 and 16 March, round trip from Athens calling at Thessaloniki, Kusadasi, Heraklion, Mykonos, Santorini and Milos. The vessel will then embark on a series of Aegean voyages up to December.

Celestyal ‘more than finding sea legs on the global stage’

Celestyal CCO Lee Haslett said: “We really do take the time to listen to feedback, and Italy, Croatia and Montenegro are consistently popular with the trade and our guests. These itineraries are ideal for anyone looking to discover new horizons with more than a dash of history, culture and beauty.

“And we couldn’t help ourselves by going a little bit further for our customers, so hope they enjoy their free cruise as a thank you for their unwavering support.”

The announcements come after the line unveiled a fleet refresh last week . “We are more than finding our sea legs on a global stage and fast becoming known as a confident challenger brand,” Haslett added.

Travel partners currently holding reservations on the updated March 2024 itineraries will be contacted by Celestyal over the coming days, so they can reaccommodate customers on the updated sailings on Celestyal Journey or another suitable option.

Guests who retain their booking dates on the March itineraries will be eligible for the free cruise offer, which can be applied to equivalent sailings over the next three years. All agent commission will be preserved on retained and re-accommodated bookings.

Out-of-control 700ft cruise ship crunches into dock at Turkish port

This is the moment a 700ft cruise ship crunched into a dock at a Turkish port after desperately trying to slow down.

The Celestyal Journey cruise ship was making a routine arrival into the port in Kusadasi, Turkey last week when it hit the concrete pier with its bow bulb.

The crew miscalculated the speed and approached the pier too quickly, resulting in the collision, Cruise Hive reported.

Members of the vessel's 597-person crew reportedly lowered the anchor in a bid to slow the approach, but despite their efforts the ship still crashed into the pier.

The collision caused only minimal damage to the ship and pier. No injuries were reported onboard or on the shore.

The Celestyal Journey struck a pier at Kusadasi Cruise Port on Monday last week at 12pm local time while crew were trying to dock.

Passengers were still able to enjoy their day in Kusadasi, one of the most well-preserved Greco-Roman cities in the world, as planned, according to Cruise Hive.

The port, which has eight berths for large ships, is the most popular cruise port in Turkey. Officials say the incident has not negatively impacted operations.

Celestyal Cruises, which operates the vessel and two other ships, did not have to alter any routes following the incident.

The Celestyal Journey entered service in 1994 and initially sailed for Holland America Line as Ryndam. Celestyal Cruises acquired the cruise ship last year.

The cruise liner has 630 cabins, including 149 that feature balconies, and offers guests access to seven exclusive restaurants, and eight bars and lounges, Haber7.com reported.

Celestyal Journey is currently sailing seven-night cruises in the Aegean Sea region until late October 2024.

However, unlike a typical closed-loop route, the Celestyal Journey's round-trip sailings overlap, allowing guests to embark and debark in Kusadasi, as well as various cities in Greece.

Travellers can start their voyage in Heraklion, Crete Greece; Piraeus-Athens, Greece; or Thessaloniki, Greece.

The ship's final journey in the Aegean Sea will embark on October 19 this year. It will be followed by a 14-day repositioning cruise from Athens to Doha, Qatar.

Once it arrives in its new homeport in Doha, the Celestyal Journey will offer seven-night roundtrip sailings to the United Arab Emirates.

Here Are all the Cruise Lines That Have Canceled Russia Sailings

Poseidon Expeditions is the latest addition, canceling seven itineraries

Astrid was the Senior Special Projects Editor at TripSavvy.

celestyal cruises news

As the conflict in Ukraine continues, cruise line after cruise line has altered itineraries with stops in Russian ports or canceled voyages entirely.

Poseidon Expeditions is the latest addition to this list after a March 17 statement announcing that seven polar voyages are canceled for the summer. An additional four Arctic sailings have new itineraries. "The terrible situation in Ukraine makes planned operations in Russian waters untenable, and we cannot support promoting these trips in any way for the 2022 season," said Angelica Vorea, founder and CEO of parent company Poseidon Arctic Voyages, Ltd.

Carnival Cruise Line, Windstar, and Atlas Ocean Voyages were some of the first big names to announce that they scrapped all stops in St. Petersburg. Carnival announced via Twitter they will be swapping Russia out of all current cruise itineraries in the coming week "once alternative ports can be confirmed." In the same post, the cruise line's holding company, Carnival Corporation, stood by Ukraine in light of the attacks, declaring, "We stand for peace."

Royal Caribbean Group released a statement canceling stops in St. Petersburg for summer 2022 sailings for all its brands, including Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Silver Sea. "We have planned alternative ports and will communicate itinerary changes in the next few days to our guests and travel partners. Guests can feel comfortable knowing they are able to reschedule their cruise with our Cruise with Confidence program," the statement read.

MSC Cruises, which had four ships scheduled to call in St. Petersburg beginning this May, announced it had suspended all Russian stops and was in negotiations for possible alternative options, including Stockholm, Helsinki, and Tallinn.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings also announced that they would remove Russian and Ukrainian ports from 2022 itineraries across their brands, including Norwegian, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas.

"It's disappointing because St. Petersburg is one of the crown jewels of the Scandinavian itineraries," said Frank Del Rio, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, during the company's earnings call last Thursday.

Regent Seven Seas had particularly significant plans for Russia this year, with several stacked itineraries, including the Solovetsky Islands, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, St. Petersburg, and Odessa, Ukraine. Norwegian Cruise Line canceled a majority of its Baltic sailings on the Norwegian Getaway. Some cruise lines are forgoing modification and canceling their itineraries outright. The luxury river cruise line, Scenic, scrapped all of its 2022 Russia cruises. Viking River Cruises canceled all Russian river cruises and its planned Kyiv, Black Sea & Bucharest routes this year due to the events. Russian stops on Viking's ocean itineraries will be modified, and impacted guests and travel advisors will be notified.

The cancellations add to the ripple effect Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused throughout the travel industry. Earlier in March, travel expert and television personality Rick Steves announced he would be canceling all Russian tours that his company, Rick Steves' Europe, had planned this year.

"Our mission ... is to help Americans better know and understand our neighbors through travel," Steves wrote in a blog post from late February. "But when we bring travelers to another country, we also bring their dollars—dollars that would support Putin's aggression. Therefore, as of today, we have canceled all 2022 tours that include a stop in Russia."

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

This hidden bar on a cruise ship comes complete with its own ghost

This hidden bar on a cruise ship is not what we expected Sun Princess

Cruise lines are really pulling some tricks out of their hat with their offerings, as they attempt to entice younger and more diverse audiences onto their ships.

From ice grottos to ultimate booze cruises , other-worldly expeditions and *checks notes * robot bartenders , we’ve come a long way from hopping on board to spend a week simply sipping pina coladas on the lido deck (but, hey, we also won’t turn that down, let’s be honest).

Princess Cruises has recently launched a pretty impressive hidden gem on its newest ship the Sun Princess, called Spellbound.

And, as the name suggests, it’s got magic at its core.

Magic shows on a boat? Just about as groundbreaking as florals for spring, right? Been there, abracadabra that, we hear you.

This bar takes things to another level, though – first of all, it’s a hidden bar, tucked behind a nondescript black door on board. You’d be forgiven for walking straight past it on the way to the buffet and having no idea of the wonder that sits on the other side.

This hidden bar on a cruise ship is not what we expected Sun Princess

Vote for your chance to win a cruise

Do you love cruising? Are you an intrepid traveller? Maybe you just like looking at pictures of luxe ships. No matter which, we want you to vote!

Metro has partnered with the  Sailawaze Excellence Awards , highlighting the very best in cruising when it comes to sustainability, wellness, entertainment and beyond.

And we need YOU to simply select what you’ve been most impressed by.

The best bit? By voting before the end of the day (May 10) you’ll automatically be in with a chance of winning a cruise for two worth £2,500.

Say bon voyage to the more traditional categories of ‘best large ship’ or ‘best luxury cruise line’ and instead ahoy to innovation, food and drink and showstopping performances.

Vote for your favourite here now .

It’s also Victorian-themed, to give it that real added zest, with mind-bending entertainment performed by magicians as they (the travellers, not the magicians) sip on theatrical cocktails served with sleight of hand.

Spellbound has been created in conjunction with the reknown Magic Castle, a private club in Hollywood for magicians and enthusiasts, which specialises in teaching and performing magic. It’s this crop of spellbinding men and women who will be performing on the cruise line’s latest ship, too.

With its ornate décor that includes magical artefacts, vintage curiosities, and interactive special effects, the bar, and its series of themed rooms, is meticulously designed to capture the essence of this exclusive club (which will set you back $149 (£118) to enter for an evening).

This hidden bar on a cruise ship is not what we expected Sun Princess

For instance, in the Music Room, guests will meet the spirit of Isabella (of course) who will share her stories of sailing on Sun Princess. The venue will also feature a vintage Parlor Bar featuring Artemis the owl who is revealed through interaction with skilled illusionists before entering the intimate 30-seat, Spellbound theatre, to experience close-up magic that will blow guests’ minds.

So, knowing all this, it perhaps comes as no surprise Princess Cruise is up for a gong in Sailawaze’s Excellence Awards in the entertainment category.

But, it’s got some strong competition.

It’s up against Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Prima, which features the world’s first venue that transforms from a three-story theatre into a Vegas-style nightclub, the world’s first freefall dry slide and a three-level racetrack at sea. Add the legendary GLOW party with DJs on decks, fantastic dance music and glow sticks, and the Norwegian Aqua, due 2025, which will boast Aqua Slidecoaster, the first rollercoaster and waterslide hybrid.

Then there’s P&O’s Mission Control – the cruise line’s first multi-sensory immersive submarine simulation game, exclusive to Arvia. Navigate through danger, mysteries, and puzzles in incredibly realistic 3D ocean environments in one of two one-hour experiences: a family-friendly adventure suitable for all ages and an adult-oriented adventure.

Marella Cruises’ Exchange Speakeasy Bar is an exclusive, hidden-away adult-only venue that’s also nominated. It’s got a unique cocktail menu not found elsewhere on the ship with live music and immersive entertainment in the evenings.

Over to Carnival Cruise Lines, and its new ship Carnival Jubilee, which features Currents, a technology-rich underwater-themed area spanning two decks. Its promenade also transforms into an immersive experience with evening showcases of otherworldly destinations during drinks and dinner, while Soundwaves Jukebox, a music-activated visualiser, brings guest-chosen songs to life through images and light displays. That’s before we even get to the interactive gameshow…

celestyal cruises news

Celestyal Cruises has announced the removal of its COVID-19 vaccination, proof of COVID recovery and pre-departure testing requirements for all guests on sailings commencing on or after March 2, 2023, unless required by local regulations, according to a press release.

All Celestyal crew members will continue to be fully-vaccinated, and the company encourages guests aged 12 and over to be fully-vaccinated. Regardless of vaccination status, Celestyal will continue to recommend that all guests get tested at their convenience prior to travel to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience. Testing results will no longer be required to board Celestyal’s ships. For the remainder of 2022, Celestyal will maintain current, relaxed protocols, which were previously announced.

“The health and safety of our guests, crew and the communities we serve is our top priority and we continue to monitor and adjust to the evolving global situation,” said Celestyal’s Chief Commercial Officer, Leslie Peden. “Our crew will continue to maintain our stringent hygiene protocols based upon the most up-to-date guidelines from the European Healthy Gateways, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and Greek health authorities. We look forward to welcoming all guests for the immersive experience that we are known for as we explore the unique destinations of the Greek Islands and Eastern Mediterranean.”

On a river cruise in Russia you’ll likely visit two of this expansive country’s most important cities, St. Petersburg and Moscow. St. Petersburg has always been more of a city focused on the arts and Moscow on business and politics. Tolstoy even remarked about this dichotomy in his masterpiece novel Anna Karenina . In St. Petersburg you’ll find the ornate Hermitage Museum, an art museum which was started by Catherine the Great. In Moscow you’ll be wowed by the colorful onion domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral at Red Square. When cruising through Russia you’ll also get a chance to experience the rural parts of Western Russia in Goritsy or the Mandrogi village, which is reconstructed to look just as it did during the 18 th century.

Things to Do on a Cruise to Russia

Adopt the pluck and determination of the Russian people and realize that there is nothing you can’t do on your cruise to Russia. Russia is full of crazy stories, exciting history and beautiful traditions, so drink it in with some unforgettable experiences. A few of our favorite things to do are outlined below:

Russia Cruises Kremlin Palace and Wall in Moscow, Russia

  • Explore the armory at the Kremlin where you can see the stunning royal jewels of the czars and czarinas. Don’t forget to check out the Faberge eggs, intricately decorated and jewel-adorned eggs created in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
  • Visit a wooden church with 22 domes that is made without one single nail. This remarkable building is in Kizhi Island surrounded by other buildings at an open air museum.

Russia Cruises Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia

  • Spend a day discovering the more than 3 million works that make up the Hermitage Museum, which is housed in the Winter Palace, a former home of Russian royals located in St. Petersburg.
  • Though ballet comes from Italy, Russia has made this elegant dance form what it is today. Be sure to enjoy a performance at either the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow or the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.

Russia Cruises GUM Department Store in Moscow, Russia

  • Enjoy a Shashlik lunch. Shashlik is a Russian variation of a shish kebab which generally consists of grilled beef or cubed lamb that is been marinated and is roasted on a spit often paired with a variety of vegetables such as tomato, onion and eggpant.  This is a popular fast food dish in Russia.
  • Go to GUM, Moscow's exorbitant shopping mall, to shop (or just browse) through one designer store after the other.

Top 10 russia cruises, russia: cruise lines.

River cruise lines offer in-depth visits to Russia where you’ll get a real sense of the nation’s culture – from the big cities to the rural outposts. Each day is packed with history, art and tradition.

Russia: Departure Ports

Russian river cruises either flow north or south, meaning they either start in St. Petersburg or Moscow. Moscow is the current capital of the country, but St. Petersburg used to hold that title and was the home of many of the country’s czars. Both of these large cities offer great art museums and incredible domed churches. No matter where your river cruise starts, you’ll get a real sense of Russian culture as St. Petersburg offers an exploration of Russian history while Moscow is on the cutting edge and looking forward.

Trending topics, sister ship of sunken russian cruiser moskva departs mediterranean, u.s. destroyers follow behind.

celestyal cruises news

The sister ship of the Russian guided-missile cruiser sunk by the Ukrainian Navy has left its position in the Mediterranean Sea after six months, USNI News has learned.

RTS Marshal Ustinov (055), sister ship to the former RTS Moskva (121), passed through the Strait of Gibraltar on Thursday after operating in the Mediterranean Sea since early February, according to ship spotters. Shortly after it passed into the Atlantic two U.S. guided-missile destroyers assigned to the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, USS Cole (DDG-67) and USS Bainbridge (DDG-96), followed the Russian cruiser two hours after it passed the Rock of Gibraltar, according to photos published by ship spotters. The cruiser was one of Russia’s primary naval assets in the region and reduces Moscow’s presence closer to Ukraine.

Ustinov , along with the Russian Navy’s two other Slava-class cruisers – the sunken Moskva and RTS Varyag (011) – were sortied from their homeports earlier this year in conjunction with the Russian ground invasion of Ukraine.

Ustinov , part of the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet, entered the Mediterranean in early February as the head of a surface action group and took up station off the southern coast of Crete while the Pacific-based Varyag operated closer to Syria and the Russian logistics base in Tartus, USNI News reported at the time .

celestyal cruises news

The deployments ran in parallel to the NATO and U.S. presence operations centered on USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), its escorts and embarked air wing. Truman has been in the Mediterranean since December and its air wing has flown up to 90 sorties a day.

Designed in the 1970s to take on U.S. carriers with 16 telephone pole-sized SS-N-12 Sandbox anti-ship cruise missiles, the Slava-class ships have endured as part of the Russian fleet following the end of the Cold War.

Two Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship guided-missiles attacked and sank Moskva in April. USNI News reported in May that the cruiser likely sank because its point defense radars were not operational .

While the U.S. has an extensive logistics footprint in the region, Russian resupply and refueling has been harder, according to USNI News contributor H I Sutton.

“The Russian navy does not have meaningful maintenance facilities in the Med. We can speculate that crew fatigue from longer periods of heightened readiness may be a factor,” in their departure, he wrote .

Sutton published satellite photos showing Ustinov refueling on Tuesday ahead of its departure from the region.

Meanwhile, the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group has entered U.S. 6th Fleet. USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) departed Naval Station Norfolk, Va., on Aug. 10 and is expected to relieve Truman in the coming days.

Truman has been deployed for eight and half months.
