Best service at Trek bike rental store

The Dutch love to cycle so I made arrangements up front to make sure bikes would be available for us. I contacted the store by email and the manager, mr. Royce, has been kindly answering my numerous questions very fast and satisfactory (about the bikes, transport how to get to the store, best chances where to see wildlife, and so on...). The bikes were well maintained and very suitable for the track, helmets were provided. We had a very beautiful day cycling in the desers, seeing gazelles and oryx.

A very long cycle path- don’t make the mistake of starting at the 18k trail before the desert or you will be very tired before you reach the main 45km trail. The cycle path is safe and away from cars. There is a rest stop with food and convenience items as well as parking. Bike rental prices are very reasonable. Nice scenery not too far from the city.

Excellent cycling paths! During my resent visit at Dubai I also. visited Al Qudra cycling path and I can highly recommend this place! My challange was how to get there and back from Dubai. Here was my approach: 1. How the get there? I sign up at uDrive - car sharing - there is one more even more popular car sharing but I wanted to make it simple and uDrive was first I enrolled. The other one is Ekar - both have an mobile app to manage entire rental. 2. Signing up at uDrive was not a smooth process but after several trial of uploading photos of documents, selfie with my documents, visa stamp from pasport etc my application was accepted 3. In Feb - no need to be there so early as the temperature and sun are manageable so I start looking for my car ca 8:30 with the aim to start my ride at 10:00. 4. I found a car near by me and rent it - opening the car was a bit tricky as the GPS location and the GPS of the car was not 100% matched even I was standing next to the car and holding doors waiting to be opened. Buildings are so high which can distruct GPS signal. Just be patient.. or find another car near to you. 5. Once doors opened, it took me ca 40mins point to point to get to Al Qudra 6. I rented one of the bike at Bike Trek shop/rental - they don't have bike shoos to rent 7. Left or right? The main cycling path is a circle so you need to decide which way to go - and here is a little detail only locals or somebody who used the path already knows - observe other bikers where they go left or right - I felt the difference ca 20km - the dessert wind direction make the difference:-) I wish I new it before my start - even at the rental space they don't rather tell you this. Instead they say you can go left or right - no difference but there is a difference as the wind usually appear there 8. When I return I was charged by uDrive 142 AED - all inclusive (car, petrol, insurance) - whole day rate. 9. Car sharing - there is a term called Business Zone - the zone where uDrive operate - it's not so clear at the beginning if I can go with the car outside the zone or not - Al Qudra is outside the zone - don't worry - I found finally in the Q&A that car can be used in any place in UAE but cannot be left outside the Business Zone - left mean finishing the rental. Of course then we can go to place like Al Qudra and after we cycling we can get back to Business Zone and finish rental leaving the car on one of the parking space Wish to come back - amazing place to be!

trek bike al qudra

Great experience. Start around or before sunrise because the shortest loop is 48km. Very difficult to get a taxi back to Dubai from Trek Bike Store (where you rent the bokes from) so plan ahead. It’s outside the Uber area currently.

Track is good. Have so many options for Pro and beginner Cyclist. Better use your own bike. However, the track is not secured, at night there are A LOT OF VEHICLES crossing the track. SUV who lost their way irresponsibly dashes and crosses anything even occupying the bike tracks. So dangerous at night because its every cyclist for himself. Word of advise if you want to use this lane better do it during the day.

We had such a great time cycling at sunrise on the path. It’s super flat so perfect for cycling novices and there are different options for route length. The desert is beautiful, but definitely recommend going early morning to avoid the heat!

Al Qudra Cycle Track

  • Read 1 Review

Most regular roads in Dubai are not designed with cyclists in mind. Al Qudra Cycle Track is a dedicated asphalt cycle track in the Dubai desert.

Al Qudra Cycle Track

Several routes are available. The most popular is Route 1, a 50 km loop. Routes 2 and 3 are extensions for more experienced riders. Route 4 (known as The Stick) is a straight, out and back track running parallel to the D63 (Al Qudra Road).

Routes are shown on the map below: Route 1 – Blue, Route 2 – Red, Route 3 – Green, and Route 4 – Purple. An interactive route map can be found here .

Route map of Al Qudra Cycle Track in Dubai desert

All routes are well maintained and fairly flat. Riders love the quiet of the desert and the safety afforded by the vehicle-free environment. Arabian oryx , the national animal of the UAE, are a common sight.

The main start point is at The Last Exit Al Qudra. This food truck park offers a wealth of facilities including numerous places to eat and drink, a supermarket, petrol station, and toilets. Signs with maps of the routes are also here.

There are a couple of places to rent cycles here; Trek Bicycle Store and First Ride. Rates are hourly. Both open early in the morning.

Another start point is the car park at the end of Route 4, near Reem (a residential development). There are few facilities here.

Temperatures soar in the summer months it’s best to start before sunrise . Riders should ensure they have adequate an adequate supply of water. There is no opportunities to buy water once on the route.

Shaded shelters with seating are located along the routes. Emergency telephones are also available.

There are no fees to ride on the cycle track. Parking at The Last Exit and Reem car parks are also free.

Last Exit Al Qudra is located at the end of the D63 (Al Qudra Road). The only way to get there is to drive or take a taxi . No public buse s go here and there is no Dubai Metro station nearby.

Al Qudra Cycle Track is also known as Saih Al Salam Bicycle Track.

How to hit the Al Qudra cycle track in Dubai

Al Qudra cycle track in Dubai can be an epic addition to your day. But how to know where to start? Here’s our guide to bike rentals, distances, gear and best times of day (and year) to go.

Al Qudra bike rental

Bring your own bike or rent one from Trek UAE bike shop (located at the end of Al Qudra – prices below). It’s easy to park here too, as there are toilets and a convenience store with all the protein bars you could need.

The Cycle Hub also organizes group rides according to level, and the fee includes a free coffee after.

“I love Al Qudra because you’re out in the middle of nature and have these crazy early morning sunrises,” says Kayleigh Dawson, a Dubai personal trainer who only started cycling last year. “It was also great getting over my fear of cycling.”

Al Qudra track distances

Options on Al Qudra range from distances of 35km up to a whopping 180km.

Most beginners start with the straight section of the path that runs parallel to Al Qudra road, which is 17.5km out and another 17.5km back.

Intermediate cyclists can expect to finish the main 50km loop in roughly two hours. There are shaded tents to stop along the way, and a mosque where cyclists refill water bottles.

If you’re still feeling nervous, head to District One Cycle and Running Track in Al Meydan, says Desmond Myburgh, operations manager for Gymcare. “This helps build up to longer distances. It’s also at District One that many beginners find their life-long cycling partner/cycling group.”

What to wear cycling

When you book your bike, you can also hire a padded seat. It’s handy if you don’t have your own fancy kit. Feeling more advanced? Buy yourself a pair of padded shorts. Trust us.

The best time to cycle

In summer months, go early or late. Head out at 5am or after 8pm to avoid extreme temperatures. “The heat after 9am is unbearable, with some days reaching highs of 50 degrees Celsius,” Myburgh. “That’s when people, especially beginners, run the risk of heat exhaustion and dehydration.”

During the cooler months from mid-October to the start of March, you can head out pretty much anytime. Just ensure you’ve got enough water with you and get ready for possible winter wind chills.

Think about how busy you want the track to be. Most cyclists head out on the weekends from 5am to 10am. Yet with around 180km of cycle path to choose from, you won’t run into traffic jams — it’s more the occasional group of cyclists passing on your left.

Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge

The biggest cycling challenge in the Middle East, Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge , kicks off each year months ahead of the mid-December race with training Some 2,000 cyclists join in for the big event, meaning the atmosphere is pretty special.

What to eat after cycling

When cycling is done, you can grab plenty of street food from the food trucks at Last Exit. Cyclists also head to The Cycle Bistro, which has heaps of paleo food and a health focus.

How much does Al Qudra cost?

Renting a bike from Trek Bicycle Store in Al Qudra costs Dh53 for two hours during the week, and Dh95 for two hours at the weekend. There are discounts for small groups.

Want to cycle in Abu Dhabi? Check out the track at  Al Hudayriat Island .

Try this :  Desmond Myburgh’s route suggestions for beginners

  • From the first car park to the Hamdan Swim Complex and back, which is a total of 25km there and back (or for those who want to have a food stop, cycle to Al Barari to have breakfast and coffee at The Farm; here the total distance will work out to roughly 40km total).
  • From the second car park (at Trek Bicycle Store / ZADS Food Store / Last Exit) cycle to “The Trees” and back, which is a total of 10km.
  • From the second car park (at Trek Bicycle Store / ZADS Food Store / Last Exit) cycle to the mosque where there is a facility to refill with water if required. The total distance is 21km.
  • From the second car park (at Trek Bicycle Store / ZADS Food Store / Last Exit) cycle to the Bab Al Shams resort, where you can stop for coffee and breakfast, where the total distance is 27km.

Trek teases secret 'invisible' new gravel bike in wake of Unbound

Is this the new Trek Checkpoint, or another amalgamation of models?

Unbound 200 Womens

The mud - or dust this year - is slowly settling after a weekend of fantastic racing at Unbound Gravel 2024.

The racing there provides heaps of new and interesting gravel tech, products and hacks to deal with the challenging route. We have a premium Unbound mega tech gallery for you to enjoy, along with a pair of custom-painted Factor Ostros , a brace of canary yellow Colnago G4-Xs and three Felt gravel race bikes .

One bike that we nearly missed is what looks to be a new Trek Checkpoint gravel rig, teased online by the brand itself, and shown up in a few sneaky shots.

We don't know if this bike will be a Checkpoint or a brand-new model. Many brands have multiple gravel bikes in their lineup, with racy models alongside more adventure-friendly models. Trek still only has the Checkpoint as a dedicated gravel bike, alongside the Boone cyclocross bike and the Domane all-road bike.

Trek also has a new road bike in the works and we aren't sure of the name of that bike yet either, with the rumours suggesting it will be an amalgamation of the Madone and the Emonda. With that in mind, let's not assume anything here.

Details of the new gravel bike are even scarcer than the road bike, but we think it's safe to say a new bike is on the way, along with perhaps a new integrated carbon fibre handlebar and stem, and Bontrager gravel tyres from what we can make out from our online snooping.

The @trekbikes Instagram account made the below post. Blanking out the new bike and pretending it's not there is one way of creating a bit of positive chat ahead of a new bike release.

We did, however, manage to find a few sneaky shots, courtesy of the official Unbound press photos, and the MAAP.CC Instagram account, showing of the new bike under racers Russell Finsterwald and Hayley Hunter Smith, both of whom race for the Trek Driftless gravel race team.

Russel Finsterwald riding a new Trek Checkpoint at Unbound

The bike raced by Finsterwald (and likely a few other athletes) has a regular seatpost instead of the integrated unit with topper mast found on the existing top-level Checkpoint SLR.

It looks as though the Isospeed has been redesigned, with a single pivot point sitting just in front of the seatpost, and a seat tube that's a good amount deeper than the seatpost that sits inside it. Interestingly, the down tube storage box seems to have disappeared. Will this be a race-focused, pared-back model?

There also looks to be top tube mounts for bags which the existing bike has, and a carbon integrated handlebar we assume from the Bontrager component family.

We'll keep our eyes peeled for more details and see if Trek will give us any details in the meantime, and we'll be sure to update this story when we know more.
