Are you planning to travel soon? We don’t blame you — spending the last few years dealing with country shutdowns, testing requirements and travel restrictions has considerably impacted everyone.

If you’ve booked a vacation, you may wonder if you should purchase travel insurance. Among a variety of providers from which to choose, IMG insurance offers several different insurance plans. These include both short- and long-term policies, some of which include coverage for issues arising from COVID-19 illness.

Let’s look at IMG travel insurance, its different plans, and how to choose one that’s right for you.

» Learn more: Common myths about travel insurance and what it covers

The type of travel insurance you’ll want to purchase will depend on what kind of travel you’re doing. Are you looking specifically for medical coverage? How about trip insurance in case your plans go awry? You can be reimbursed in various circumstances if you have the proper insurance.

Single-trip plans

Single-trip plans are intended for those going on a trip for a predetermined period and returning home. This is compared to those who intend to take multiple trips within a year or those who will be abroad for a long time.

To get an idea of the options, we input a search for a 40-year-old female from Arizona traveling for two weeks to the U.K. on a $5,000 vacation.

img travel se

IMG returned a total of 12 different plans. The cheapest plan, at $37.31, was limited strictly to health insurance. This includes coverage of up to $1,000,000 for unexpected illnesses and accidents.

img travel se

The most expensive option, meanwhile, included medical insurance, trip cancellation insurance, and trip delay insurance. The total cost for this plan came out to $343.96.

img travel se

Many travel credit cards offer complimentary trip insurance as long as you pay for the trip with your card, though coverage levels may vary.

Annual plans

Annual plans are built for those types of folks who travel often. This can be on many short trips or for longer-term absences from home.

For an idea of the annual plan coverage IMG offers, we put in a search for a 32-year-old man from Oregon, traveling for a year with a budget of $30,000.

img travel se

In this case, IMG returned a total of 19 different plans. The cheapest plan cost $160.90 for the year and included worldwide health insurance and a deductible of $250.

img travel se

It’s worth noting that you can alter the deductible amount — upping the deductible to $10,000 dropped the annual cost of the insurance down to just $65.60.

The most expensive option, meanwhile, cost $816.69 and included 24/7 telehealth access for non-emergency medical questions. Maximum coverage limits for the policy range from $2,000,000 to $8,000,000.

» Learn more: How much is travel insurance?

The type of plan you’ll need will vary based on your travel habits. Here are some things you’ll want to think about when choosing your plan:

Look at coverage details

Some policies provide emergency medical evacuation coverage, while others skip this benefit entirely. This benefit may be more important to you if you travel to a remote location or engage in physical activity such as trekking.

More comprehensive plans may include other benefits such as assistance with acquiring a new passport, reimbursing reward mile redeposit fees or coverage for pre-existing conditions. If these are something you’re interested in, be sure to check that your policy includes these options.

Think long-term

If you’re planning on traveling multiple times within the year, compare the cost of purchasing several different single-trip policies to buying a year-long plan, which may save you money.

Use existing coverage

If you hold a credit card with trip insurance, you may want to skip purchasing insurance entirely. Depending on your card, you may already have emergency medical insurance, trip interruption insurance, rental car insurance, trip delay insurance and more.

» Learn more: How to find the best travel insurance

If you’re looking to purchase IMG travel insurance, you’ll first want to navigate its website: imglobal.com .

img travel se

From there, you’ll be able to enter the details of your trip, including how many travelers you have, where you’re going and how long you’ll be gone. You’ll then be presented with various insurance plans to fit your needs.

We mentioned above that different plans have different levels of coverage. Still, in general, there are some things that you shouldn’t expect to be covered, including high-risk activities, intentional acts of harm and other designated events.

» Learn more: Does travel insurance cover medical expenses?

You’ll want to be aware that not all insurance plans cover instances of coronavirus. This is also true for IMG travel insurance; different plans have different levels of coverage and not all of these include COVID-19 protection.

If coronavirus is something you’d be covered for, you’ll want to double-check your plan before purchasing. Those that include coverage for COVID-19 will specify so like this:

The cost of your travel insurance will vary based on your coverage levels. Things that may bump up the price of your policy may include trip reimbursement insurance, cancel for any reason insurance and pre-existing condition coverage.

Yes, IMG offers international travel insurance. When getting a quote, you’ll be able to select the countries to which you’re traveling, though if you’re looking for a long-term plan, you can expect worldwide coverage.

Whether or not travel insurance is worthwhile will depend entirely upon your needs. If you have a credit card that provides complimentary insurance, that may suffice. Otherwise, purchasing a plan could help bring you peace of mind on your vacation and help you manage an unforeseen challenge if one occurs.

Some IMG travel insurance plans offer Cancel For Any Reason as an add-on. This benefit covers 75% of your nonrefundable trip cost and must be purchased within a specific time frame from your initial trip deposit. For example, for IMG’s iTravelInsured Travel LX plan you need to purchase CFAR within 20 days of trip deposit.

The cost of your travel insurance will vary based on your coverage levels. Things that may bump up the price of your policy may include trip reimbursement insurance,

cancel for any reason insurance

and pre-existing condition coverage.

Travel insurance can be a good option for those wanting coverage while away from home. The cost of your policy will vary based on the coverage you want — the better the plan, the more you can expect to pay.

Choosing whether or not to purchase travel insurance from IMG is a personal decision. However, if you’re heading out of town and want to be sure you’re covered, do your research and select a plan that suits your needs.

International Medical Group (IMG) Travel Insurance Review (2024)

Sarah Horvath Photo

Sarah Horvath is a finance writer and researcher based in New York City. She specializes in writing about home warranties, insurance and home financial protection.

Tori Addison Photo

Tori Addison is an editor who has worked in the digital marketing industry for over five years. Her experience includes communications and marketing work in the nonprofit, governmental and academic sectors. A journalist by trade, she started her career covering politics and news in New York’s Hudson Valley. Her work included coverage of local and state budgets, federal financial regulations and health care legislation.

If you’re looking for comprehensive medical insurance for your upcoming trip, International Medical Group (IMG) is worth considering. Founded in the late 1980s, IMG is a worldwide travel insurance provider offering up to $8 million in emergency care and medical evacuation coverage — more than 10x that of many competing insurance providers. Special policies are also available for students and seniors, with premiums below $100 per person on many basic plans.

With lower premiums and higher-than-average coverage limits, IMG can be an appealing choice to insure your next international excursion. However, we believe there are other better options for travel insurance coverage.

International Medical Group Logo

Our Take on International Medical Group (IMG)

In our comprehensive review of travel insurance providers , we awarded IMG a total score of 4.4 out of 5 stars, with its standout offering being a diverse range of plan options. From students traveling with a visa requiring medical insurance to sports professionals who need equipment insurance, IMG offers a selection of more than 10 plans for most international travelers. Comparatively, many travel insurance providers only offer up to three plan options.

IMG’s policies also have coverage limits that go above and beyond most other travel insurance providers. For example, medical limits go up to $8 million with IMG, while most other companies offer options up to $1 million or less. This can make IMG an appealing choice for travelers concerned about potential medical emergencies. IMG also offers a wide range of added coverages not seen with most other providers — like benefits toward missed flights and pet kennel bills — though inclusions vary by plan.

However, be sure to read IMG customer reviews before you buy. Negative customer reviews on the company’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot profiles consistently mention a failure to pay out claims and negative experiences with customer service professionals. IMG also does not include baggage delay benefits in its most economic plans.

IMG is not the only travel insurance provider available — and the best provider for your needs will vary depending on the details of your trip. Browse the table below to learn more about additional coverage options from other providers.

The destination you are traveling to can also play a role in the best travel insurance provider for your needs. For example, if you are traveling to a rural area with limited access to a hospital, you might want to prioritize a policy with comprehensive medical evacuation benefits.

What Does IMG Travel Insurance Cover?

One of the most unique features of IMG travel insurance is the variety of policy options it offers. In most parts of the U.S., you can access 15 unique travel insurance plans, which vary based on the level of coverage and types of benefits included. Medical coverage limits are available with benefits up to $8 million, and you can also find millions worth of evacuation coverage. If you are an older traveler or traveling to a more remote area where you could need medical care, IMG’s higher-tier plans could be worth the cost.

IMG also offers specific plan options for students traveling on visas that require a certain level of medical insurance, visitors to the Schengen area and even sports travelers looking for equipment protections. If you are a student or need unique coverage inclusions, IMG’s range of policy choices might offer a more customized fit than other providers.

Let’s take a look at a few of IMG’s most popular travel insurance policy options and what each covers.

iTravelInsured Travel SE

The iTravelInsured Travel SE policy is IMG’s primary option for travel medical and cancellation coverage. This plan includes the following major benefits:

  • 100% trip cancellation coverage
  • 150% trip interruption coverage
  • $125 per person per day trip delay benefits (up to $2,000)
  • $150 to cover airline change fees
  • $250,000 worth of primary medical expense coverage ($1,000 limitation on dental care)
  • $500,000 worth of medical evacuation coverage

The policy also includes extra benefits, like a supplement for pet kennel expenses and missed connection costs. Overall, the iTravelInsured Travel SE policy is an affordable option that provides competitive benefits compared to other major travel insurance providers.

Patriot International Platinum

The Patriot International Platinum plan is a medical-oriented travel insurance policy offering customizable medical insurance with up to $8 million worth of coverage. This maximum benefit is significantly higher than other providers, making the Patriot International plan a strong choice for anyone concerned about international health insurance bills. This plan also offers benefits for:

  • Emergency medical evacuation up to your total medical coverage limit
  • $25,000 toward natural disaster evacuation services
  • $100,000 toward politically-oriented evacuations
  • $50,000 worth of accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage

With lower premiums and customizable medical maximums, this policy can also be a strong choice for students who need to maintain medical coverage as a term of a study abroad visa.

img travel se

IMG’s comparison platform makes it easy to determine which plans best fit your coverage needs and budget.

iTravelInsured Travel LX

Travelers looking for both comprehensive travel and medical coverage can explore the all-inclusive iTravelInsured Travel LX plan. This plan includes:

  • $250 per person per day trip delay benefits (up to $2,000)
  • $300 to cover airline change fees
  • $500,000 worth of primary medical expense coverage ($1,000 limitation on dental care)
  • $1 million worth of medical evacuation coverage
  • Up to $10,000 toward search and rescue expenses
  • $2,000 in sports equipment rental coverage

Like the SE plan detailed above, the iTravelInsured Travel LX policy includes extended additional benefits for pets and other considerations you might have abroad. This policy can be most beneficial for covering a high-value trip or adventure travel to a rural destination thanks to the extra evacuation and emergency search benefits.

The table below summarizes IMG’s most popular plans compared to some other policy options.

IMG Add-On Options

Add-ons, or riders, are benefits you can include in your policy, often for an extra fee. Below are optional add-ons and features available in higher-value IMG plans:

  • Accident death and dismemberment
  • Cancel for any reason coverage
  • Change fee coverage
  • Interruption for any reason coverage
  • Natural disaster evacuation coverage
  • Political and personal security evacuation coverage
  • Rental car damage and theft coverage
  • Pet kennel coverage
  • Search and rescue coverage
  • Sports equipment rental coverage

What’s Not Covered by IMG Travel Insurance?

While IMG offers higher medical benefits than some other insurers, its policies do not cover every situation. The following are some exclusions laid out in IMG’s most popular travel insurance plans and where you might want to shop for coverage if these inclusions are important to you.

  • Pre-existing conditions: If you’re older or have a pre-existing medical condition that could affect your trip, you might want to look for a travel insurance provider that offers a longer window to add this coverage. With IMG, you must purchase travel insurance coverage 14 days after your initial trip deposit to have medical coverage extended to pre-existing conditions.
  • Business equipment: While IMG offers specialized policies with inclusive athletic equipment coverage, it does not have policies with business equipment coverage . If you are traveling for work, consider a provider like Berkshire Hathaway, which offers this coverage as an optional add-on.
  • Electronics and jewelry: Like most travel insurance providers, IMG’s policies include exclusions for the full value of expensive items like jewelry, cell phones and laptops. If you must bring these items, consider a provider like HTH Worldwide that offers added rider choices for high-value items.

Cost of IMG Travel Insurance

According to our review, the average IMG traveler can expect to pay about $224 for premium coverage. While this number is comparable to other travel insurance providers, IMG also offers medical policy options for as low as $30 per traveler. If you are shopping on a budget, we recommend browsing IMG’s large list of plan options, as customizable coverage choices can help you adjust pricing.

The type of trip you are planning also plays a role in pricing. Browse the table below to learn more about how trip details can influence the price you pay for travel insurance.

Use the chart below to compare IMG's average cost to competitors:

IMG International Travel Insurance Cost

The price of international travel insurance varies depending on the benefits offered. To help you get a better idea of what you might pay for IMG’s top travel insurance policies, we requested quotes for a 30-year-old couple planning a $7,000, week-long trip to the United Kingdom. The table below summarizes the quotes we gathered.

*Quotes in the table above were collected directly from the provider’s website, and are accurate as of November 2023. Pricing for Patriot plans reflects a $2 million medical coverage limit.

IMG Domestic Travel Insurance Cost

IMG’s most popular travel insurance policy options also offer coverage for U.S. travelers taking domestic vacations across the country. To help you get an idea of the cost of IMG’s domestic coverage, we requested quotes for a 35-year-old American traveler taking a domestic vacation valued at $2,000. The table below reflects the quotes we received.

*Quotes in the table above were collected directly from the provider’s website, and are accurate as of November 2023.

Note that Patriot plans are not currently available for U.S. residents traveling in the U.S.

IMG's iTravelInsured Customer Reviews

IMG gets many positive reviews on review sites that say the company provides transparent policies that clearly list what’s covered. However, there are some negative reviews about glitches with the IMG website and general frustration with website performance. Others have complaints about canceling trips and not receiving expected coverage.

Overall, IMG Global gets 4.6 out of 5 stars from nearly 7,000 reviews on Trustpilot. Here are four examples:

“This website makes it very easy to find what type of insurance I need. I have been using IMG for five years for all my international trips.” — Tao “The process is clear and simple, and the product is well-priced for an extensive range of coverage. I use it for both business and personal travel.” — Meagan “The website application process is frustrating. I had to continue to clear my cache five times to get it to work… One more time of not working, and I was going with someone else. Fortunately, it worked on the sixth attempt…” — Warren “We never traveled to Turks and Caicos but they charged us the full amount even if we canceled more than one month before the trip!” — Luca Montebugnoli

We reached out to a representative by email for comment on the reviews above and received the following statement:

“At IMG, our mission is to be an exceptionally innovative partner that provides creative and practical solutions, and our staff strives to ‘Be There’ to protect and enhance the well-being of our customers every day.

We appreciate the time our customers take to share the experiences they’ve had with our company to further connect others to the travel and health safety solutions we provide for those traveling, living or working away from home.

We understand how important it is to provide high-quality service to our customers, which is evidenced by our overwhelmingly positive Trustpilot reviews, and we are committed to providing every customer with the best possible experience.”

How To File a Claim with IMG Travel Insurance

The fastest and easiest way to file a claim with IMG travel insurance is through your customer portal. Here is a quick breakdown of how to use it:

  • To file a claim, click the “My Claims” button in your customer portal. Here, you will be guided through next steps to provide documentation based on your claim type.
  • Gather supporting documents to upload to your portal. The type of documents you need will vary depending on the type of claim you’re filing. For example, if you need reimbursement for travel expenses, you can provide a trip invoice, itinerary or confirmation showing details of your trip.
  • After submitting your claim, a representative will review your documentation and compare it with coverage on your policy. The representative should get back in touch with you to arrange a reimbursement.

IMG also allows you to file a claim through the mail or using a fax machine. Explore policy documents and claims forms you might need using IMG’s claims center .

Is IMG a Good Choice for Travel Insurance?

Overall, IMG is a strong travel insurance provider for both international and domestic coverage. Its higher medical limits can be appealing to those worried about medical coverage or older travelers using Medicare, which does not offer primary health insurance benefits abroad. IMG’s policies can also be worthwhile options for students, athletes and anyone else with unique visa-based coverage needs.

However, customer reviews suggest some issues with customer service and claims handling. While not representative of every experience, this might be an issue for customers who value concierge-level coverage or those worried about traveling abroad for the first time. No matter your coverage needs, we recommend getting a quote from at least three competing providers to find the best plan at the right price for your trip.

  • A 30-year-old couple taking a $5,000 vacation to Mexico.
  • A family of four taking an $8,000 vacation to Mexico.
  • A 65-year-old couple taking a $7,000 vacation to the United Kingdom.

  • Plan availability (10%): We look for insurers with a variety of travel insurance plans and the ability to customize a policy with coverage upgrades.
  • Coverage details (29%): We review the baseline coverage each company offers in its cheapest comprehensive plan. A provider with robust coverage earns full points, including baggage delay and loss, COVID-19 coverage, emergency evacuation and medical coverage, trip delay and cancellation coverage, and more. Companies also receive points for offering a variety of policy add-ons like accidental death and dismemberment, extreme sports, valuable items, cancel for any reason coverage and more.
  • Coverage times and amounts (34%): We compare each company’s waiting periods and maximum reimbursement amounts for baggage, travel and weather delays. Companies that offer customers reimbursement after fewer than 12 hours of delays earn full points in this category. We also reward travel insurance providers that cover more than 100% of trip costs in the event of cancellations or interruptions.
  • Company service and reviews (17%): We look for indicators that a company is well-prepared to respond to customer needs. Companies with an established global resource network, 24/7 emergency hotline, mobile app, multiple ways to file a claim and concierge services score higher in this category. We assess reputation by evaluating consumer reviews, third-party financial strength and customer experience ratings, specifically from AM Best and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Patriot Multi-Trip

  • For those who take multiple trips abroad each year, the Patriot Multi-Trip plan could be a cost-effective option.
  • Coverage choices are available for both U.S. citizens and non-citizens.

IMG Travel Insurance Costs

Though it can be challenging when you are tallying up expenses for your upcoming vacation, it’s wise to plan for the cost of travel insurance.

When programming your trip, you should budget between four to eight percent of the total cost of the trip for travel insurance.

The price is generally based on three factors: the length of the trip, the destination, and the age of the policyholder.

In general, longer trips cost more than shorter ones, international destinations are more expensive to cover than domestic ones, and older policyholders will usually pay more than younger ones.

IMG also offers annual or renewable plans for frequent travelers and, for most plans, dependents under the age of 18 are covered along with their parents.

Check out the IMG website for a quote based on your specific details.

If for some reason you don’t wind up needing IMG’s travel insurance, you may submit a cancellation request and receive a full refund within ten days of the effective date of your coverage.

IMG Travel Insurance Reviews & Reputation

When it comes to IMG travel insurance’s reputation, reviews are somewhat mixed.

While IMG has earned an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), customer reviews on the BBB website average less than two out of five stars.

However, IMG has been accredited by the BBB since 2005, and only has 15 customer complaints lodged against it within the past three years. Most of the complaints are categorized as billing issues.

Trustpilot gives IMG three out of five stars, which is an average score.

As is typical for insurance companies, many of the negative reviews come from customers who had billing or coverage disputes.

Customer Assistance Services

IMG prides itself on its 24/7 customer service and multilingual staff.

The IMG website lets you browse through policy options so you can choose what plan works best for you, your family, or your group.

The website also lets you build an instant quote, compare policies, and buy your choice of packages online.

IMG’s online support service, MyIMGSM, provides online access to local providers, explanation of benefits, claims status, ID cards, and certificate documents.

There is a paperless submission option for claims, though faxing or mailing is also permitted.

IMG also offers a convenient mobile app.

IMG Travel Insurance Financial Stability

When you decide to purchase insurance, you want to know the company is reliable.

To that end, IMG has the financial stability of an established international insurance company, providing peace of mind for the consumer.

IMG is underwritten by Sirius International Insurance Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CM International Holding Pte. Ltd, which is rated A (excellent) by A.M. Best and A- by Standard & Poor’s.

These high ratings should make potential purchasers very comfortable.

Comparing plans and signing up was pretty easy and well designed. Hopefully if I need the insurance the actual service would be at the same level as well.

UX and UI - well done! Easy to follow, clear and straightforward. Website is uncluttered with few distraction - relatively quick too.

Quality service/product but a couple of interface issues

Overall, IMG Global's travel insurance website is helpful and clear, with quality content from a reputable travel insurance provider. Two web interface aspects that could be improved: (1) The site is rather slow to load pages when doing comparison shopping, which is challenging since a lot of back-and-forth between plans and plan details seemed necessary to evaluate the best plan choice(s). (2) The "Compare" function (which of course should reduce the need to go back and forth between plans and plan options) did not work properly, in two respects: The "COMPARE NOW" button would only appear after selecting at least six different options for comparison, when I only wanted to compare three or four at most. Second, the "COMPARE NOW" function, when selected, would only display two plans, and not the ones I wanted to see (with no way to scroll or page ahead to the other plans). In the end, I found the comparison option to be unuseable, and it seemed that the comparison selection function and the comparison screen both need to be fixed.

Scam Insurance Company

This is a terrible insurance company. I would call this company a scam. They deny every claim, not only mine but also my spouse's and daughter's, right from the start. I have faced severe consequences, physically and emotionally, affecting my family and work. Various health issues have developed due to the mental stress they caused me. They are taking advantage of foreigners coming to the USA.

Planning a vacation can be an exciting endeavor. Regardless of where and why you're traveling, it's vital to ensure that you're protected if something goes wrong. And this is why travel insurance is important.

In this review of iTravelInsured Travel Insurance , a well-known name in the industry, we'll share the company's insurance offerings, look at premium costs, and let you know how to file a claim. We'll also share a couple of comparisons between iTravelInsured and some of the best travel insurance companies .

iTravelInsured is a collection of travel insurance policies provided by International Medical Group, more commonly known as IMG. One of the industry leaders in travel insurance, IMG provides policies for travel medical insurance , international health insurance, and comprehensive travel insurance. iTravelInsured offers trip protection and medical coverage across six plans.

With six plans to choose from, including a low cost plan and a plan for adventure sports travelers, customers are likely to find a plan that suits their needs. iTravelInsured's Travel Lite plan is particularly interesting, managing to keep its rates relatively low, even for older travelers.

We'll get into more details about iTravelInsured's customer reviews, but it's worth mentioning at the top that the claims process for iTravelInsured isn't great, with many customers reporting unresponsiveness, partial claims payouts, and months-long processing times.

Types of Policies Offered by iTravelInsured

iTravelInsured offers six primary plans: Travel Lite, Travel SE, Travel LX, Travel LX Basic, Travel Sport, and Travel Essential. Each plan has different coverage limits and various types of protection.

Here's a look at what you'll get with each plan:

Determining which of these plans will best suit your needs will depend on your budget and which coverages matter most to you.

For example, the Travel LX plan offers the highest coverage limits but will also cost the most. In comparison, the Travel Lite plan is designed for budget-conscious travelers. Its coverage limits are lower than the other plans, but you'll also pay less for your policy.

Additional Coverage Options from iTravelInsured

iTravelInsured only offers two optional add-ons to its top-tier Travel LX plan. These include CFAR (cancel for any reason) and IFAR (interruption for any reason) coverage. And these add-ons must be purchased within 20 days of the initial trip deposit.

iTravelInsured Travel Insurance Cost

The premium you pay will depend on various factors, including the age of the travelers, destination, and total trip costs. The  average cost of travel insurance  is 4% to 8% of your travel costs.

After inputting some personal information, such as your age and state of residence, along with your trip details, like travel dates, destination, and trip costs, you'll get an instant quote for iTravelInsured plans available for your trip. And from there, it's easy to compare each option based on your coverage needs and budget.

Now let's look at a few examples to estimate iTravelInsured coverage costs.

As of 2024, a 23-year-old from Illinois taking a week-long, $3,000 budget trip to Italy would have the following travel insurance quotes:

  • iTravelInsured Travel Lite: $ 87.77
  • iTravelInsured Travel SE: $100.43
  • iTravelInsured Travel LX: $183.06
  • iTravelInsured Travel Sport: $194.01

Premiums for iTravelInsured plans are between 2.9% and 6.5% of the trip's cost, well within the average cost of travel insurance.

iTravelInsured provides the following quotes for a 30-year-old traveler from California heading to Japan for two weeks on a $4,000 trip:

  • iTravelInsured Travel Lite: $117.74
  • iTravelInsured Travel SE: $135.36
  • iTravelInsured Travel LX: $235.53
  • iTravelInsured Travel Sport: $246.91

Once again, premiums for iTravelInsured plans are between 2.9% and 6.2% of the trip's cost, within and below the expected range of travel insurance costs.

A Texas family consisting of two 40-year-old parents with a 10-year-old and 4-year-old on a two-week trip to Australia for $20,000:

  • iTravelInsured Travel Lite: $687.18
  • iTravelInsured Travel SE: $807.78
  • iTravelInsured Travel LX: $1,270.92

Quotes for this trip cost between 3.4% and 6.4%, within and below the average cost of travel insurance.

A 65-year-old couple looking to escape New Jersey for Mexico for two weeks with a trip cost of $6,000 would have the following quotes:

  • iTravelInsured Travel Lite: $423.86
  • iTravelInsured Travel SE: $449.74
  • iTravelInsured Travel LX: $662.28

Quotes for this trip cost between 7.1% and 11%, which is generally higher than the average cost of travel insurance. Older people often pay more for insurance, and iTravelInsured is no exception. That said, its policies for older travelers aren't as high as some of its competitors.

How to Purchase and Manage Your iTravelInsured Policy

iTravelInsured Customer Service and Claims Experience

IMG, the company that operates iTravelInsured, is very well reviewed, receiving an average of 4.6 stars out of five on Trustpilot and a 4.22 on Squaremouth. Many customers spoke highly of the company's buying process, saying that the price was reasonable, the application was easy to complete, and customer service agents were polite and knowledgeable.

That said, customer reviews of IMG's claims don't line up with the volume of outstanding reviews it has. Customers reported claims taking several months to process. Many of the five-star reviews of IMG's claims services are filed by people who have recently filed, but haven't heard back yet.

In addition to long wait times, customers also reported that claims agents were largely unavailable, and customer service representatives, while polite, were ultimately powerless in escalating a claim. Additionally, multiple customers reported only receiving partial compensation without explanation. One customer mentioned that mental illness was not included as a covered illness, writing, "Almost a medieval view of what constitutes an illness."

While IMG and iTravelInsured aren't alone when it comes to a long, uncommunicative claims process, it's even more concerning that IMG's customer service team doesn't respond to any reviews, which is often a good way to reach your insurance provider.

iTravelInsured vs. AIG Travel Guard

We'll look at a couple of different plans from both iTravelInsured and AIG Travel Guard  to compare and contrast the coverage between the two companies.

We'll start with iTravelInsured's Travel Essential and AIG's Essential plans.

AIG's Essential plan covers trip cancellations with up to $100,0000 in coverage, up to $150,000 in emergency medical evacuation expenses, and up to $100 per day ($500 total) for delays of 12 or more hours, and coverage for lost or delayed baggage.

In comparison, iTravelInsured's Travel Essential offers trip cancellation coverage of 100% of the trip cost, $0 of emergency medical evacuation coverage, up to $2,000 (with a $250 daily limit) for trip delays of 12+ hours, and no lost or delayed baggage coverage.

So in this instance, it's pretty easy to decipher the main differences between these plans. And to see that you'll get much better coverage with AIG's Essential plan.

Now we'll look at both of the highest-tier plans from each provider.

AIG's Deluxe plan, the highest-tier option, provides trip cancellation coverage of up to $150,000, emergency medical evacuation coverage of up to $1,000,000, up to $200 per day ($1,000 maximum) reimbursement for travel delays of 12+ hours, and coverage for delayed or lost baggage.

iTravelInsured's Travel LX plan provides trip cancellation coverage of 100% of the trip cost, up to $1,000,000 in emergency medical evacuation, up to $2,500 with a $250 daily limit )reimbursement for travel delays of 6+ hours, and relatively high limits on coverage for delayed or lost baggage.

In this instance, the Travel LX policy provides superior coverage. But it's important to always get quotes for your particular situation to find the policy that best fits your needs and budget.

Read our AIG Travel Guard insurance review here.

iTravelInsured vs. Allianz Travel Insurance

Both iTravelInsured and Allianz offer various plans with varying levels of coverage designed for different types of travelers. These include single-trip plans and policies covering those who take multiple trips per year.

Allianz's most popular single-trip option is the OneTrip Prime plan, which offers trip cancellation coverage up to $100,000, trip interruption coverage up to $150,000, emergency medical coverage for $50,000, coverage for baggage loss, theft, or damage up to $1,000, and up to $800 in travel delay coverage.

iTravelInsured's most popular plan is the Travel SE plan, which provides trip cancellation coverage of 100% of trip costs, trip interruption coverage of 150% of trip costs, emergency medical coverage for $250,000 (primary coverage), coverage for baggage loss, theft, or damage up to $1,500 ($250 per item), and up to $2,000 ($125 daily limit) in travel delay coverage for delays of 12+ hours. Overall, it offers more coverage than Allianz in this example.

Again, it's best to compare quotes using your personal and trip details to determine which policy is the best for you. Various factors will determine the final cost of any of these policies.

Read our Allianz travel insurance review here.

iTravelInsured vs. Credit Card Travel Insurance

If you have a travel credit card, check its insurance coverages before purchasing a travel insurance plan from iTravelInsured or another company. That way, you won't be paying twice for coverage you might already have! Some basic insurance coverages, like primary rental car insurance, are offered through many travel rewards credit cards.

It's worth considering whether your credit card travel protection is primary or secondary. Secondary coverage will only kick in after any other relevant travel insurance policies you have. And note that insurance provided through a credit card likely won't cover medical issues, just things like trip and baggage delays.

Once you're clear on the coverage you have through your credit cards, you can purchase travel insurance to fill in the gaps.

See our guide to the best credit cards with travel insurance.

iTravelInsured Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes, iTravelInsured is great for international trips, offering coverage for medical emergencies, evacuations, and adventure sports.

iTravelInsured offers adventure sports coverage in its Travel Sport plan, with coverage for sports rental equipment, medical emergency coverage for hazardous sports, and search and rescue.

Customer reviews typically indicate that iTravelInsured has an efficient claims processing system, characterized by timely responses and a supportive claims handling team.

Coverage for pre-existing conditions depends on the iTravelInsured plan you purchase. Its Travel Lite plan doesn't offer pre-existing condition waivers , but its Travel SE and Travel LX plans do, as long as you purchase your policy within the specified window. You must purchase a Travel SE policy within 20 days of your initial trip payment and your Travel LX within 24 hours of your final trip payment.

iTravelInsured stands out for its variety of plans, long trip lengths, and lower rates.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Reviewed iTravelInsured

We looked at a variety of factors in reviewing the travel insurance plans offered by iTravelInsured. We also compared them to plans offered by other reputable travel insurance companies. And considered things like coverage limits, premiums costs, available add-ons, and more.

Filed trip cancellation its extremely difficult to get a reply and status

IMG finally paid my claim, after more than 4 months, but the experience of working with IMG was a nightmare. 1) Submitting claim documents via IMG's website did not work properly. The file size limits were small. IMG only received some of the documents submitted. The website said no claim existed. On the other hand, submitting claim documents by email worked perfectly well. 2) After submitting all the documents IMG originally requested, IMG kept asking for additional documents every few weeks, prolonging the process needlessly, then taking a long time to review these documents, and then asking for another document. 3) After 3 months of this, IMG wrote in an email "If you no longer wish to pursue this claim, please let us know and we'll update our records". The impression left is that IMG's goal is to exhaust people making a claim, so that they give up.

I needed to adjust the coverage dates and the rep was extremely courteous, prompt, and remained on the phone with me while I confirmed receipt of updated policy. Great!

They corrected a wrong name and early in process answered questions!

Sometimes the information given is different from information when I talked to a different person. Was frustrating at times.

I'm not really sure what trip this policy is for. The last trip we took ended in May 2023. We were scheduled to travel to Europe in April 2024 but had to cancel. That trip was insured by Allianz through the trip organizer. I did have a situation about three years ago involving Squaremouth that wasn't pleasant. Don't really remember the details but it left a bad taste in my mouth. In the meantime we've moved so a lot of those records are gone.

I emailed a claim but did not get a response . I then called customer service and received an email with claim form. I submitted my claim in paper via mail. I did not hear back yet

I sent my claim in by Certified Mail on May 21, 2024. I called to see it you received my claim, but was told that claims mailed in took a lot longer and they didn't know if it had been received .I have not heard from anyone yet. I tried to file the claim on line, but when I tried to enter information a pop-up in red said already entered somewhere. I called and talked to someone, and she spent a lot of time with me trying different ways to get the information entered, but the same red bar kept coming up. She said there has been trouble with that and told me to try it again the next day. I did that and it still didn't work. I have spent hours getting this information together. Please have someone contact me regarding this claim. Thank you

It has been terrible filing a claim with IMG since I got back! I got sick on the cruise and had to seek medal help onboard, acquiring about $2000 in expenses. I recovered fully, no problem. But to file a claim for medical reimbursement has been very difficult and I still don’t know if the documentation was accepted. I’ve had to call the claim help 4-5 times, spent over 4 hours just trying to submit documentation online! Your app or service is too picky how to receive docs. Very difficult! First, the online claim app for IMGlobal wouldn’t accept photos of my docs for invoice, medical reports. I’m given only paper docs onboard, so I took photos of everything to submit. I have an Apple iPhone 14. I’ve never had any problem submitting photos online, but your app wouldn’t accept anything, even when I tried to put in .jpeg format too. Ended up after several calls to submit via email, even with problems. I’m retired as most travelers who get insurance are and not very computer savvy. Then I was emailed the wrong claim forms initially.

Please make filing a claim easier, and acceptance of documentation!

Answered all my questions and concerns about getting the right policy for my trip.

Tracking the Remnants of Alberto

By William B. Davis, Madison Dong, Judson Jones, John Keefe, and Bea Malsky

The remnants of Alberto were over Mexico Thursday afternoon Mexico Central Time, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The system had sustained wind speeds of 30 miles per hour.

Where did it rain?

Tropical cyclones typically drop large amounts of rain along and near the storm's path. The slower and more significant the storm’s size, the higher the likelihood of higher rainfall totals. Some storms can drop well over 30 inches of rainfall, like when Hurricane Harvey dropped over 60 inches near Nederland, Texas, in 2017.

What did the storm look like from above?

Satellite imagery can help determine the strength, size and cohesion of a storm. The stronger a storm becomes, the more likely an eye will form in the center. When the eye looks symmetrical, that often means the storm is not encountering anything to weaken it.

Alberto is the first named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2024.

In late May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that there would be 17 to 25 named storms this year, an above-normal amount.

This season follows an overly active year, with 20 named storms — including an early storm later given the official name of “Unnamed.” It was the eighth year in a row to surpass the average of 14 named storms. Only one hurricane, Idalia, made landfall in the United States.

Typically, the El Niño pattern that was in force last season would have suppressed hurricanes and reduced the number of storms in a season. But in 2023, the warm ocean temperatures in the Atlantic blunted El Niño’s usual effect of thwarting storms.

The warm ocean temperatures that fueled last year’s season returned even warmer at the start of this season, raising forecasters’ confidence that there would be more storms this year. The heightened sea surface temperatures could also strengthen storms more rapidly than usual.

To make matters worse, the El Niño pattern present last year is also diminishing, most likely creating a more suitable atmosphere for storms to form and intensify.

Hurricanes need a calm environment to form, and, in the Atlantic, a strong El Niño increases the amount of wind shear — a change in wind speed and/or direction with height — which disrupts a storm's ability to coalesce. Without El Niño this year, clouds are more likely to tower to the tall heights needed to sustain a powerful cyclone.

The tropics are heating up, with the National Hurricane Center keeping an eye on two disturbances in addition to Potential Tropical Cyclone One , according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for portions of Texas ahead of Potential Tropical Cyclone One , which is expected to become a tropical storm before making landfall late Wednesday.

➤ Track all active storms

➤  Track Potential Tropical Cyclone One

The large storm — which has tropical-storm-force winds extending 290 miles northeast from the center — could be a rainmaker, bringing 5-10 inches of rain and up to 15 inches to some locations, according to the National Hurricane Center. AccuWeather predicted some areas could see up to 30 inches.

If it does become a tropical storm, it'll become the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, Alberto . To become a tropical storm, maximum sustained winds must reach at least 39 mph.

Future Tropical Storm Alberto? Potential Tropical Cyclone One expected to strengthen before landfall. See spaghetti models

The National Hurricane Center also is monitoring two other systems: a disturbance east of Florida with a low chance for development and another area in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico close to where Potential Tropical Cyclone One is.

Here's the latest update from the NHC as of  2 p.m., June 18:

Potential Tropical Cyclone One

Special note on the NHC cone:  The forecast track shows the most likely path of the center of the storm. It does not illustrate the full width of the storm or its impacts, and the center of the storm is likely to travel outside the cone up to 33% of the time.

  • Location: 410 miles southeast of Brownsville, Texas
  • Maximum wind speed: 40 mph
  • Direction: north at 7 mph

Forecast, impact: Potential Tropical Cyclone One expected to strengthen before landfall. See spaghetti models

Special note about spaghetti models:  Illustrations include an array of forecast tools and models, and not all are created equal. The hurricane center uses only the top four or five highest performing models to help make its forecasts.

What is out there and how likely are they to strengthen?

Southwestern Atlantic: An area of showers and thunderstorms located several hundred miles east of the Bahamas is associated with a surface trough and an upper-level area of low pressure.

Environmental conditions are marginally conducive for some gradual development of this system during the next few days while it moves west or west-northwest.

The system is forecast to approach the coast of the southeastern United States on Friday.

  • Formation chance through 48 hours: low, 10 percent.
  • Formation chance through 7 days: low, 20 percent.

Southwestern Gulf of Mexico: Another broad area of low pressure is forecast to develop over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico this weekend.

Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for gradual development of this systemearly next week while it moves slowly north or northwest.

"With warm waters and low shear still present in the southern Gulf of Mexico and northwestern Caribbean next weekend, yet another opportunity for tropical development may present itself," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski.

Depending on environmental conditions, "any moisture from this area may again funnel into the Gulf Coast for the last week of June," AccuWeather said.

  • Formation chance through 48 hours: low, near 0 percent.

Who is likely to be impacted?

Potential Tropical Cyclone One: This system is expected to strengthen and is likely to become a tropical storm by Wednesday before approaching the western Gulf Coast late Wednesday. Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area by Wednesday.

Potential Tropical Cyclone One is expected to bring 5 to 10 inches of rain across South Texas and into northeastern Mexico, with up to 15 inches possible, NHC forecasters said. AccuWeather forecasters said up to 30 inches may be possible in some locations.

The Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore warned " double digit rainfall totals likely along the coastal counties of TX and potentially Houston."

Atlantic: "This appears to be a quick-moving and compact low-pressure area that will be moving westward into northeastern Florida or perhaps as far north as southeastern Georgia on Thursday," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

A stronger storm could bring gusty winds, especially to coastal locations. A less organized storm would bring rough surf and downpours from the northern Bahamas to the Southeast Atlantic coast, AccuWeather said.

Gulf of Mexico: "Depending on the wind pattern in the atmosphere, any moisture from this area may again funnel into the Gulf Coast for the last week of June," according to AccuWeather. "Given the expected rain in the coming week, the risk for localized flooding may increase."

Forecasters urge all residents to continue monitoring the tropics and to always be prepared. That advice is particularly important for what is expected to be a very active hurricane season.

We'll be back from 6am with all the latest from the election campaign.

We're in the last few days of the race for Number 10 - and parties from across the House of Commons are accelerating their efforts.

Join us in the morning for more live updates.

Reducing knife crime will be a "moral mission" for Labour if it wins the election on 4 July, Sir Keir Starmer will say on Tuesday.

The party leader will outline his plan to halve knife crime over the next 10 years, including creating a new cross-government "coalition" to work on solutions - bringing in families of victims and survivors of knife crime, along with tech companies and relevant organisations.

Sir Keir will also promise to chair an annual knife crime summit to "track progress" on the target, and appeal to all parties to work together on the issue.

"Knife crime is an issue above and beyond party politics," he will say. "For the parents grieving sons and daughters who never came home, action to end this scourge cannot wait.

"Far too often we hear the same stories from grieving families who have been subject to these brutal murders carried out by children.

"It is our duty as political leaders of all stripes to work together to end knife crime and keep our young people safe."

Figures from Labour showed knife-related offences had risen by 81% since 2015 across England and Wales.

The party's pledges for after the election include increasing the penalties for carrying a knife - including custody in the most serious cases, as well as extending the list of banned knives.

Its 10pm - here's your late night general election bulletin.

We're into the last full week of the election campaign, with just 10 days left until polling day - and things are heating up.

Here's a run down of everything you may have missed:

  • Rishi Sunak  today said he is not being investigated by the Gambling Commission over the betting scandal;
  • He confirmed the Conservative Party is carrying out its own investigation - and will pass its findings on to the Gambling Commission ;
  • The prime minister later took part in an election Q&A with The Sun, in which he insisted he only took the top job "as the result of a mistake" made by Liz Truss ;
  • He also failed to confirm whether he called a summer election to avoid potential legal trouble over Rwanda flights taking off in July;
  • Meanwhile, economists have lambasted a "conspiracy of silence" from the main parties over their tax and spending plans - read more below:
  • Over to Labour, which has offered to meet Harry Potter author JK Rowling to provide her with "assurances" over the protection of women-only spaces;
  • Sir Keir Starmer also took part in the election Q&A, and he admitted that he "understands" why people are confused by his shift in stance on Jeremy Corbyn;
  • And Lord Richard Dannatt, the former head of the army, has said Nigel Farage is "not worth listening to about anything" - particularly relating to the war in Ukraine;
  • The Reform leader said last week the West had contributed to the invasion of Ukraine;
  • He has launched a blistering attack aimed at his one-time ally Boris Johnson - highlighting a front page showing Mr Johnson holding a similar stance on Russia back in 2016.

A flurry of general elections since 2015 has brought an unprecedented churn in our parliamentary representatives.

This year, two in five MPs aren't seeking re-election and the picture for the Conservatives is record-breakingly grim.

An unparalleled total of 23% of Conservative MPs are calling it a day in 2024, more than the previous high of 22% of Tories who quit in 1997, another year of boundary changes.

In contrast, only 15% of Labour MPs are resigning.

There are many reasons MPs quit: from retirement, family commitments and health concerns to career change, abolished constituencies, and the prospect of defeat.

But their decision to depart can reveal much about life in Westminster and have a significant impact on parliament's mix of experience, demographics, and the direction of political parties.

Dr Sofia Collignon, associate professor in Comparative Politics, analyses the churn in our representatives here:

Wales is a Labour heartland, but it's clearly in the sights of other parties during this election campaign.

Reform UK even launched its manifesto in a town in the south of the country, Merthyr Tydfil.

Although Wales has its own parliament and makes most of its own decisions, they still elect MPs who stand in Westminster.

Sky's Wales reporter Tomos Evans explains how the cost of living, steel industry and nuclear energy will be key issues for voters.

By David Blevins , senior Ireland correspondent

Northern Ireland's first and deputy first ministers have condemned the Conservative Party for the impact of Brexit on the region.

Sinn Fein's Michelle O'Neill told Sky News the current government had "played fast and loose" with the Good Friday Agreement.

Emma Little-Pengelly, of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), said Northern Ireland was the victim of the Tories having "botched Brexit".

Doug Beattie, the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) leader, accused the "chaotic" Tory government of "destroying the cohesion of the United Kingdom".

Tactical voting is a talking point at every election - but it could play a particularly big role this time round.

The polls suggest huge public discontent with the Tories, but there are many seats where Labour - widely projected to form the next government - are not the main challengers.

It's contests like these where the Lib Dems, Reform UK, and the Greens might hope to make gains.

Below, Sky's political correspondent  Serena Barker-Singh explains what tactical voting is when it comes to an election and how it could impact parliament's makeup come 5 July.

Our live poll tracker collates the results of opinion surveys carried out by all the main polling organisations - and allows you to see how the political parties are performing in the run-up to the general election.

It shows a drop in support in recent days for Labour and the Tories - with a jump for Reform and the Liberal Democrats.

Read more about the tracker here .

Tonight on Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge , both our Tory and Labour guests faced questions over a report suggesting neither party are being honest with voters about their tax and spending plans.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies launched its report on their election manifestos this morning, warning public services will have to be cut over the next parliament, unless government debt or taxes rise further.

Labour and the Tories have both ruled out tax rises on working people, but also downplayed the risk of cuts to key public services.

So, are they being honest? Our business correspondent Paul Kelso takes a closer look at the numbers...

That concludes our coverage of tonight's Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge  - the show will return tomorrow at 7pm. Stick with us here for more updates and analysis throughout the evening.

Five years ago it was indisputably the Brexit election, but this time round it's become something of an elephant in the room.

But in Northern Ireland, none of the party leaders are shy of talking about the impact of Britain leaving the EU.

Our  senior Ireland correspondent  David Blevins   has spoken to them all about the legacy of the 2016 referendum - and how a new government at Westminster might change things.

As David notes, to "get Brexit done" the Tory government put a trade border in the Irish Sea between Northern Ireland and Great Britain - something that was once unthinkable.

Michelle O'Neill, Sinn Fein:

"I think there's an opportunity now with what potentially looks like a Labour government coming into play to reverse the damage of Brexit.

"And actually, I would hope we get to the point where actually we reverse the Brexit decision altogether.

"That may not be where Labour are headed, but I think there is an opportunity to reset relationships, critically between London and Dublin, because those have been very much fractured."

Emma Little-Pengelly, DUP:

"The Conservative Party and the UK government botched Brexit and Northern Ireland was the victim of that.

"We called out the Conservative Party on this at every single stage.

"We had to fight incredibly hard to try to undo the damage made by the decisions made by the Conservative Party in government.

"But of course it was us fighting for that, while others were agitating and pushing for rigorous implementation of that really bad deal."

Naomi Long, Alliance:

"What we need to do looking forward is say... how do we make the benefits of the Windsor Framework work in our advantage?

"We have a unique position in Northern Ireland in terms of trade: we can trade freely into GB, we can trade freely with the Irish Republic, but more than that, we are a foot in the European Union."

Colum Eastwood, SDLP:

"Brexit has been a disaster for the whole of the UK, I would argue, economically and in many other ways, but we felt it much more keenly here because we share a border with the European Union.

"We had to do an awful lot of work to put things back together after the mess that was made by Brexit and Boris Johnson and the DUP.

"From our perspective, there's no better outcome than actually being back in the European Union lock, stock, and barrel."

Doug Beattie, UUP:

"Brexit was a defining moment.

"It absolutely undermined the cohesion of the United Kingdom, and I think we can see the out workings of that even today.

"And whatever government gets in - and we all think it's going to be a Labour government - I think they're going to have to work on that cohesion as one of their main outputs."
