Las vegas monorail, tips for getting around las vegas.

The RTC (The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada) manages the buses that run up and down the Strip and Downtown Las Vegas , and offers one of the best ways to get around Las Vegas without shelling out a ton of money. Tourists will especially want to take advantage of the Deuce, a bus that operates along Las Vegas Boulevard, and the SDX, better known as the Downtown Express, which connects the Strip to Downtown. The RTC fleet features 39 routes served by more than 400 vehicles.

Using RTC transit services offers a quick, safe, and affordable way to see the sites on the Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas. Buses regularly stop at points along both routes, so riders can jump on and off while sightseeing. The Las Vegas Deuce is a double-decker air-conditioned bus that runs along the Strip with room for up to 97 people.

  • Fares: A two-hour bus pass costs $6, a 24-hour pass costs $8, and a three-day pass costs $20. Buses require exact fare. Children 5 years old and younger ride free and must be accompanied by an adult.
  • How to Pay: Riders can purchase a ticket aboard buses with exact change. Some stops also offer vending machines where riders can purchase tickets using cash or a credit card, but the machines don't give changes. The RTC app, rideRTC, is free to download and offers tickets as well. All tickets are validated with a timestamp and are ready to use at the time of purchase.
  • Routes and Hours: Stops for the Deuce are located about every quarter-mile in each direction of the Vegas Strip and are marked with signs or by bus shelters. The Deuce starts at Fremont Street Experience on Las Vegas Boulevard and ends at South Strip Transit Terminal (SSTT). The SDX makes 18 stops around downtown Las Vegas with some stops on the Strip. The Deuce operates 24 hours a day, stopping every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and every 20 minutes from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. The SDX Downtown Express runs every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to midnight. You can use the trip planner on the RTC website  to plan your route and find out real-time departure/arrival information.
  • Transfers: If you want to change to the SDX or Deuce you'll need to request a transfer from your bus driver in order to get on a different bus.
  • Accessibility: All Deuce buses are lift-equipped, kneel to the curb, and have low floors to accommodate passengers using mobility devices. Seating and space for up to two wheelchairs are reserved in the front of the vehicle, just behind the operator's seat.

One way to ride anywhere you want on the Strip, in Downtown Las Vegas, or from McCarran International Airport is through Trip to Strip , an RTC-operated ride share for groups with no surge pricing. The comfortable vans have Wi-Fi and room for 11 passengers. You can book these rides for free through the RTC app. Trip to Strip operates 24/7.

Riders can access McCarran International Airport by riding to the South Strip Transfer Terminal (SSTT) and riding a Route 109 bus there. Arrivals at McCarran International Airport's Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 can use the McCarran Airport inter-terminal shuttle ride between terminals. Route 109 located at Terminal 1 allows travelers to access the South Strip Transfer Terminal, where they can connect with other routes.

Taxis & Ride Shares

More than nine taxi companies service Las Vegas. Taxi lines form at the front of most resorts on the Strip or in Downtown Las Vegas. At McCarran International Airport, taxis queue up on the east side of baggage claim, outside door exits 1 through 4 at Terminal 1 and outside on Level Zero at Terminal 3. Uber and Lyft have designated places to pick up riders at every resort on the Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas. At McCarran International Airport, riders meet their vehicle at level 2 of the parking garage at Terminal 1 and on the valet level of the Terminal 3 parking garage.

Many resorts offer limousine service for a fee. Ask a concierge for limousine services. From the airport, limousines are available on the west side of baggage claim, outside exits 7 through 13 at Terminal 1 and on Level Zero on the west end of the building at Terminal 3.

The McCarran Rent-A-Car Center is three miles south of the airport with 11 rental car companies represented. The center is open 24 hours, 365 days a year with continuous shuttle services to the McCarran International Airport terminals. Keep in mind that hotels owned by MGM Resorts, Caesar Entertainment, and the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas do charge for self-parking and valet parking.

The seven-stop, 3.9-mile (6.4-kilometer) elevated system along the east side of the Strip travels from the Sahara to the north down to the MGM Grand on the south end of the Strip.

  • Don’t try to get across town at rush hour. For Las Vegas, the busiest commuting times are between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. During these windows, trying to use the I-15 to the west of the Strip to travel can mean delays.
  • Driving on the Strip always means traffic, so add buffer time to any trip, even between casinos.
  • Las Vegas doesn't get a lot of rain, but when it does, that means accidents. Add time to your travels if rain is involved.
  • Download the RTC app to find out when buses will arrive, where stops are located, and to pay for fares.
  • Pets or animals are not allowed on board with the exception of service animals, which are trained to assist individuals with a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • RTC riders are not allowed to eat, drink, or smoke on board. Riders cannot bring any object that is too large to fit between passenger seats, including luggage. By law, the aisles must be kept clear of packages.

A Complete Guide To Las Vegas Bus Routes

Whether you are coming in through Harry Reid Airport or hoping to travel throughout the Las Vegas strip at your own convenience, the bus routes through Las Vegas offer plenty of options with convenient stops to enjoy your stay. For the right price, guests can visit all of the Las Vegas landmarks while saving their money from surge pricing, and instead using it for high-stakes gambling at the casinos. Here’s all the information you need to master the transit systems that Las Vegas has to offer.

A bus route map

Transportation

The Las Vegas transit system has a variety of buses and vehicles to offer for visitors. These range from traditional RTC buses to the modernized monorail. Sky trams and shuttle services also provide quick and easy access for guests to navigate their way throughout the strip.

las vegas travel bus

The RTC buses, or the Regional Transportation Commission, is the most popular public transportation option in Las Vegas. The RTC buses offer a strip route known as Deuce, along with 36 additional residential routes, including four Express buses with routes that connect to all different corners of the Las Vegas Valley.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, or RTC, operates two overlapping routes that blanket the entire area of the strip. The Deuce is a double-decker bus system and in true Las Vegas style, it’s decked out in glittering gold. The deuce runs 24 hours and stops at most of the resorts located between Mandalay Bay and the Downtown Las Vegas area.

In addition to the Deuce is the Strip and Downtown Express, known locally as the SDX. Designed with the look and feel of trains in mind, the SDX connects Downtown Las Vegas with the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Las Vegas Strip with limited stops. This service provides a quicker route throughout the strip, but it’s best to plan accordingly so as to not overshoot your stop. Both the Deuce and the Strip and Downtown Express run approximately every 15 minutes and all RTC buses are equipped with Wi-Fi.

The Monorail

las vegas travel bus

The Vegas Monorail is a great option for those wanting to view the city during its downtown loop. The seven-stop, 3.9-mile elevated system travels from the Sahara to the MGM Grand and ends at the southern tip of the Strip. The monorail runs from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Monday – Friday and until 3 a.m. on Friday – Sunday. Trains arrive every five to ten minutes for easy convenience.

Pricing for the monorail starts at $6 for single fare rides and a day pass is available for $15. For those planning to ride the system around the city for a week, a seven-day pass for $56 is also available. Drop-off stations are located mainly in casinos, and security guards are on duty at each drop-off location.

In addition to the monorail system are the sky trams that connect properties owned by the same companies. The complimentary services connect Excalibur with the Luxor and Mandalay Bay while another connects the Crystals Mall to Monte Carlo and the Bellagio.

Luxor Las Vegas (from USD $79 )

In addition to direct routes along the strip, the RTC operates more than three dozen routes throughout the greater Las Vegas Valley, including North Las Vegas, Las Vegas proper, Henderson and Boulder City.

For the Deuce, stops are located about each quarter-mile on the Strip and are marked with signs and shelters. The Deuce starts at the Fremont Street Experience on Las Vegas Boulevard and ends at the South Strip Transit Terminal, or the SSTT.

The SDX makes 18 different stops around the downtown area, with some stops on the strip as well. For help navigating any potential routes, the RTC website and app allow guests to plan ahead of time and coordinate their departure and arrival times.

Popular Drop-Offs and Transit Centers

No matter where you are in Las Vegas, there are a variety of popular drop-off and pick-up zones that can be easily accessed as you navigate throughout the city. From the northern downtown area to the south end there is surely a drop-off center within walking distance.

Four main transportation hubs include the Bonneville Transit Center where you can take the BHX, CX, Deuce buses or the several others throughout the city. There’s also the Centennial Hills Transit Center Park & Ride, the Westcliff Transit center that can be utilized for the Westcliff airport express and the South Strip Transit Terminal which allows guests to take the Deuce buses up and down the Las Vegas strip at any time of day or night.

One of the most intimidating elements when visiting a new city is figuring out how the financial aspects of it all work. Should I hit a bank on the Strip first ? Do I need cash? A credit card? How do I know if I’m being ripped off? All of these are valid concerns and when it comes to the price and knowing for how to pay for the Las Vegas bus system, we’ve got you covered.

A two-hour bus pass costs roughly $3 for Las Vegas guests. The most cost-effective method may be purchasing the 24-hour pass option, which only costs $5 for the day. A three-day pass is available for $10 and seven-day pass is also available for $20.

If you happen to be a resident of the Las Vegas area, there are discounted rates available as well. For residents, a single ride fare is listed at $1, a two-hour all-access residential pass is just $1.50 and a 24-hour Residential pass is just $2.50. There are also multi-day passes available for residents as well with a seven-day pass for $10, a 15-day all-access pass for $17 and a 30-day all-access pass for $32, normally $65 dollars for visiting guests.

Additional discounts are available for students, younger guests and senior citizens as well.

Bringing along the kids for the Las Vegas experience? No need to worry. All children aged five years old and younger are able to ride for free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Close up of US coins

In addition to the diverse routes that guests can take on the RTC, there are also a diverse amount of ways for guests to pay for their trip. Many tickets can be purchased aboard buses, but exact change is often preferred. Only have a credit card? Lucky for you, many stops throughout the Las Vegas area also offer ticket vending machines where riders can purchase tickets using either cash or a credit card. If you do bring cash for this option, be sure to have exact change as well as some machines don’t offer change.

For the more tech-savvy guests, there is the rideRTC app, which is free to download and offers tickets directly to your phone. Just show your phone screen to the driver after downloading your ticket and you’re all set to go. All tickets are validated with a timestamp and are ready to use at the time of purchase.

Tips for The Strip and Downtown

In addition to mapping out the routes and figuring out the correct pricing, there are also several tips that might help make your bus trips throughout Las Vegas a bit easier to handle.

Downtown visitors who get off transit have the chance to hop on one of the RTC Bike Share rides where they can get an up-close view of the strip. The RTC bike share has 21 kiosks and over 180 bikes for guests to ride, making it a cheap and efficient way to ride around downtown Las Vegas.

A row of bikes for hire in Las Vegas

RTC, in addition to their buses, also offers a ride-sharing service now as well. The on-demand “Trip to Strip” service can accommodate passengers of 11 or fewer at one time and never charge for surge pricing. The service area for the ride-share program covers the normal resort pathway from downtown all the way to the M Resort and the Harry Reid International Airport . The ride-share options also provide several other benefits for your trip including complimentary wi-fi, USB charging ports and wheelchair accessibility.

Which buses run 24 hours a day in Las Vegas?

The Las Vegas Deuce on the Las Vegas Strip operates 24 hours a day and stops every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and every 20 minutes from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.

What’s the best way to view the city?

White the double-decker buses and bus routes make it easy to hop on and off, the best way to view the city from above is to take advantage of either the monorail system or the sky trams that allow guests to move from hotel to hotel.

How do I pay for the bus?

There are a few different payment options. Cash can be paid with exact change to the bus drivers, or a ticket vending machine is available at most stops so guests can use their credit or debit cards. The new RTC app also allows guests to pay early online at their own convenience.

Deuce tourist bus in Las Vegas, Nevada

Guide to public transportation in Las Vegas

Everything you need to know about using public transportation in Las Vegas, from buses to limos to the monorail and more

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) runs the bus network. The Bonneville Transit Center (BTC—228 7433,  www.rtcsnv.com ) is the transfer point for many routes.

Fares and tickets

Most routes cost $2 or $1 for over-62s and 6–17s and the disabled, but only with a Reduced Fare Photo Identification Card (available from the BTC). The exception is the Deuce route along the Strip, which costs $6 for a two-hour pass or $8 for a 24-hour pass. $20 gets you a 3-Day All Access Pass. Use exact change. Transfers are free if you ask for one when you pay. A 30-day system pass costs $65.

Buses run 24/7 on the Deuce route along Las Vegas Boulevard and roughly 5:30am to 1:30am elsewhere. The buses are safe and relatively comprehensive in their coverage of the city. Bus stops are marked by signs with the blue, white, and gold RTC Transit logo; most have shelters.

The most useful bus for tourists is the Deuce: this double-decker bus travels the length of Las Vegas Boulevard from the BTC in the north to just by I-215 in the south, stopping in front of all major casinos. Deuces are often busy, especially at night.

Most bus routes run along the length of a single street, some with a quick turnaround at either end of the route. Buses with a route number beginning in 1 generally run north–south; those starting in 2 run east–west. Many buses stop at the BTC.

Monorail in Las Vegas, Nevada

Monorails, shuttle buses, and bus tours

After teething problems, the Las Vegas Monorail now runs a reliable service along Paradise Road and behind the Strip. However, it hasn’t displaced the numerous hotel buses and monorails.

Las Vegas Monorail

For direct tickets to the Las Vegas Monorail, click  here .

(702) 699-8200,  www.lvmonorail.com

The pricey and not wholly convenient Las Vegas Monorail runs from Sahara Avenue to the MGM Grand, stopping at the LVH, the Las Vegas Convention Center, Harrah’s, the Flamingo, and Bally’s. The service runs Mon 7am–midnight, Tue–Thu 7am–2am, Fri–Sun 7am–3am. The journey time from end to end is usually around 15 minutes. Single-ride tickets cost $6; one-day passes go for $15; three-day passes for $32. Discounts are available if purchased online.

Free shuttle buses

A shuttle bus connects the Rio with Harrah’s on the Strip, just south of Planet Hollywood (formerly the Aladdin). The Hard Rock runs a shuttle from the hotel to the Forum Shops, Planet Hollywood, and the MGM Grand. Shuttle buses link Sam’s Town to Downtown and the Strip, and the South Point and the Strip. There are also shuttle buses linking Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, Palace Station, and Sunset Station to the Strip and McCarran Airport.

Taxis in Las Vegas, Nevada

Taxis & limos

For private limo service to and from locations in Las Vegas, click  here .

There are taxi ranks outside most hotels; restaurants and bars will be happy to call a cab for you. Technically, you’re not allowed to hail a taxi from the street, and most won’t stop if you try, but it’s usually OK to approach an empty cab with its light on if it has stopped in traffic. Meters start at $3.50 and increase by $2.76 per mile. If you have a complaint, note the cab number and call the Nevada Taxicab Authority (702-668-4005,  www.taxi.state.nv.us ).

Limousines are a flash and popular way of getting around. The rides vary from the basic black stretch to huge SUVs with hot tubs, disco balls, and the like. Many limos are available for hire outside hotels and the airport. Limo drivers are not allowed to solicit passengers, but you are perfectly at liberty to approach them for a ride.

Las Vegas Deuce on the Strip

Las Vegas Deuce on the Strip

The Las Vegas Deuce on the Strip, also referred to as The Deuce, is the Las Vegas bus service for both locals and visitors along the famous Las Vegas Strip. Run by the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), the Las Vegas Deuce is probably the least expensive way to sight-see along the Vegas Strip.

The Deuce runs 24 hours a day from the South Strip Transit Terminal, to the Vegas Strip with many stops up and down the resort corridor, and continuing to the Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas, and Las Vegas Premium Outlets South.

Deuce on the Strip stops at virtually every hotel and casino along the Las Vegas strip with stops located about every quarter mile in each direction of the Vegas strip and are marked with signs or by bus shelters.

Las Vegas buses are more accessible than taxis , which can't pick passengers up off the street. The RTC Transit has 51 routes and if you'll be spending most of your time on the Strip you'll want to take this San Francisco-style double-decker bus that is dedicated to the Strip. It accommodates up to 97 people, it's air-conditioned, spacious and begins the trip at the south end from a terminal close to the Harry Reid International Airport and ends at a terminal close to Fremont Street. You can also take any of the other 37 buses to see more of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Deuce on the Strip

Did you know... In addition to stopping at virtually every hotel and casino along the Las Vegas’ Resort Corridor (The Strip), the Deuce on the Strip travels as far south as the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign , the Las Vegas South Premium Outlets and the South Strip Transit Terminal, 24 hours a day.

The Strip is walkable, so if it’s close, walking might be your fastest option. Otherwise, try the Las Vegas Monorail, which is an excellent and fast option once on board. If you need to get somewhere quickly and directly, use a rideshare option like Uber and Lyft.

What are the Las Vegas monorail hours?

The monorail runs from 7 a.m. to midnight on Mondays; 7-2 a.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; and on the weekends, Friday through Sunday, from 7-3 a.m.

Is the monorail in Vegas free?

No, but it offers various ticket options for a single ride; a 24-hour pass; and two-day up to seven-day passes. Costs will vary based on the ticket option you select. Tickets are free for children 5 and younger. Buy tickets here .

Is there a free shuttle to explore Las Vegas?

Yes, the Downtown Loop is free and stops at several exciting attractions in Downtown Las Vegas, including Fremont Street and the Arts District. There’s also the ARIA Express Tram that operates daily 24/7 and has six stops.

Is it cheaper to use a rideshare service or take a taxi in Las Vegas?

Timing, demand and drivers in the area will ultimately determine your fare’s pricing. However, taxis do tend to cost more than rideshare.

The two-hour drive to Las Angeles then cuts across the desert, with nothing much to see but for expansive landscape. The trip comes to an end when the bus pulls over at Union Station, where passengers have a lot of transit options to explore the region.

With fares as low as $1, it is easy to see why Megabus is a popular way to get to and from Las Vegas.

How To Get From Harry Reid International Airport to the Las Vegas Strip [2024]

Harry Reid International Airport is the only major commercial airport serving Las Vegas. It’s an incredibly busy airport, filled with people vacationing and hoping to win big on the Las Vegas Strip, as well as business travelers attending major conferences at one of the many large hotels.

Despite all the traffic in and out of Harry Reid International Airport, it’s not very transit-friendly to get to downtown Las Vegas or the Strip.

LAS taxi map

Taxis will cost you between $22 and $30 , depending on which hotel you’re heading to on the Strip. The Strip is divided into certain fare zones, so the price depends on how far up the Strip your hotel is.

At Terminal 1, taxis are outside doors 1 to 4 on the baggage claim level, and at Terminal 3, taxis are outside door 53.

It’s customary to tip your driver, which can add to the cost, and there may be traffic along the Strip (which is not unusual) that may also add to the fare.

Ride Share Signage LAS

Uber and Lyft are located in the Terminal 1 parking garage on the second level. This is a massive ride-share pickup area, so you’ll find lots of people waiting for their rides. There are also tons of designated spaces that your driver can pull into.

Getting to many Strip hotels will still cost you about $23, even for such a short ride. Taking a ride-share is the most convenient and economical way to get to your hotel since it will drop you off right at the entrance, and you don’t have to worry about any transfers.

Harry Reid International Airport is known for people who try to scam unsuspecting ride-share customers. Many drivers will try to personally solicit you to take rides with them, even claiming that they are official ride-share vehicles or taxis. Do not approach these drivers, and instead, wait for your specifically marked ride-share vehicle displayed in your app. Only approach that specific vehicle and check the license plate before you make contact.

Las Vegas Airport Shuttles

Harry Reid International Airport has a number of companies offering shuttle services from the airport to area hotels.

These depart from outside doors 7 to 13 in Terminal 1 or Level Zero on the west end at Terminal 3. For $30, you can secure round-trip van service from the airport to your hotel and then back when needed. The vans are shared, so you’ll be paired with other passengers, though most transport companies will try to put you with guests going to the same hotel as you to limit the number of stops.

RTC Bus

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (or RTC for short) operates Bus 109 from the airport to the Southern Strip Transit Terminal. You can pick up the bus at the ground level of Terminals 1 and 3, and buses arrive approximately every 30 minutes , even overnight.

Tickets can be purchased on a mobile app or kiosk; it is $4 to go from the airport to the Southern Strip Transit Terminal . Remember, once you get to that southern terminal, you’ll still need to transfer onto another bus to take you up and down the Strip, making it a highly inconvenient option, especially with luggage. The bus is certainly economical but will make numerous stops along the way, and you need to transfer, making it one of the least desirable options to get from the airport to the Strip.

Kaptyn Limo Las Vegas

Many passengers arriving into Las Vegas use private hired cars to get to their hotels. Many gamblers do this for discretion, and you’ll find many celebrities doing it as well.

Here are typical transportation prices from the airport to Strip hotels, all on a round-trip basis:

  • $140 for a Tesla
  • $150 for a luxury SUV
  • $160 for a small limousine
  • $170 for a stretch limousine
  • $180 for a super stretch limousine
  • $180 for a 24-passenger bus
  • $190 for a stretch SUV

Each option requires additional tax and may have added fees on top of gratuity.

Harry Reid International Airport is hugely popular for both tourists and business travelers alike. Oddly enough, there’s not actually great public transit to the Strip and surrounding hotels, so you will likely rely on expensive ride-share vehicles and taxis to get you where you’re going. A taxi or ride-share will be your most convenient option by far, and it’ll save you from transferring on the public transit bus or having to make multiple stops on a shuttle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is easiest way to get from las vegas airport to the strip.

Utilizing a ride-share vehicle or taxi is the best way to get from the airport to hotels along the Strip.

Are there free shuttles from Las Vegas Airport to the Strip?

Not really. While there are some companies that offer free shuttles from specific hotels, there isn’t a consistent, widespread free shuttle option. Most hotels along the Strip do not have a free shuttle.

What is the cheapest way to get from Las Vegas Airport to the Strip?

Utilizing the local public transit bus is the absolute cheapest method, but you need to connect at a station south of the Strip, making it very inconvenient, especially if you have multiple bags. Taking into account cost and convenience, a taxi or ride-share vehicle will be your best bet.

How do you get around the Strip without a car in Las Vegas?

There are plenty of taxies and ride-share vehicles departing the airport for the Strip, so it is generally very easy to find an available vehicle to hire.

A first view of what the high-speed rail to Las Vegas might look like

A rendering shows the Brightline West high-speed rail project from Southern California to Las Vegas.

Efforts to get high-speed rail from Southern California to the Las Vegas Strip are gaining steam, with the first images of what the trains might look like being released this week.

Brightline West, the company constructing the $12-billion project , unveiled renderings of the electric-powered American Pioneer 220 trains that Siemens Mobility hopes to build as the preferred bidder for the planned opening in 2028. The high-speed trains will go up to 220 mph, officials said, allowing passengers to ride from Rancho Cucamonga to the Strip in less than two hours.

Although Siemens’ contract is yet to be finalized, it has agreed to build a new U.S. facility that will deliver the fleet of 10 sets of seven-car trains, in a location yet to be announced. A division of the German conglomerate, Siemens AG, the bidder already has a 2,700-person manufacturing hub in Sacramento where it builds light rail train cars, passenger coaches and locomotives including its “Venture” series trains , which debuted on Brightline’s Florida system in 2018.

As part of the agreement, Siemens will perform maintenance and repairs on the cars at a future Brightline West facility in Sloan, Nev.

Both companies, along with federal transportation officials, hope this will signal the start of a new era in U.S. high-speed rail manufacturing and transportation.

“The momentum we are building will culminate in new jobs and a new supply chain that will establish the foundation for a high-speed rail industry from coast to coast,” said Michael Reininger, chief executive of Brightline Holdings, which oversees Brightline West.

Last month, Brightline West broke ground on the 218-mile Las Vegas to Southern California system, bolstered by $3 billion from the Biden administration, along with access to $3.5 billion in tax-exempt bonds. But the company is still trying to raise funds on the private market to build the system along the median for Interstate 15, and through the Cajon Pass , a stretch of terrain that experts say could prove particularly challenging for engineers.

The trains will carry up to 450 passengers, with plans to connect it, via a high-speed rail alignment in the high desert, to the California High-Speed Rail Authority system planned between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Last month, Rail Authority officials announced they were also seeking bid proposals from Siemens Mobility and the French-owned Alstom Transportation to build six train sets capable of operating at 220 mph, and tested to 242 mph. The latter is developing a high-speed train for Amtrak’s Northeast corridor. Efforts are also underway to build high-speed rail in Texas and in Seattle.
