  • 19 May 2023
  • By Amit Saraswat

Tata Motors have been testing the Harrier and Safari facelifts for a while now and we have spotted these test cars multiple times. A new set of images reveal the updated front fascia of the Safari facelift, revealing its new LED headlights. Read on to know more details about the upcoming Safari facelift.

2023 Tata Safari Facelift

2023 Tata Safari Facelift New Headlights

The spy shots reveal new vertically-positioned headlamp clusters. However, the test car didn’t have functional LEDs fitted in the clusters. The production model of the Safari could incorporate a full-LED illumination for both low- and high-beam. Furthermore, the front end is likely to feature a full-width connected LED light bar, similar to the one seen on the Curvv concept. Other changes could include a redesigned front grille with slimmer horizontal fins and a new bumper.

The side profile will remain unchanged compared to the current model, save for a new set of alloy wheels. At the rear, the Safari facelift could boast a new design for the LED tail lights and a new bumper design with a skid plate. Overall, the front profile of the Safari features the bulk of the changes and these are likely to make their way into the Harrier facelift as well. We could also expect some of the new design cues to trickle over to the Nexon facelift that was spotted testing recently .

2023 Tata Safari Facelift Interior And Features

On the inside, the Safari facelift could feature an updated dashboard. Since Tata Motors recently updated the Safari with their new infotainment system and instrument cluster, we expect the same technology to feature in the facelift as well, albeit with better packaging and a more cohesive fitment. Currently, the Safari facelift offers features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, front and rear ventilated seats and electrically-adjustable driver and co-driver seats. Furthermore, Tata Motors could also add advanced driving assistance features like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist that are missing in the current Tata Safari.

2023 Tata Safari Facelift Powertrain Details

On the powertrain front, the Safari facelift could debut Tata’s new 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine. We saw the first glimpse of Tata’s new family of petrol engines at the Auto Expo 2023, which included the 1.2L and 1.5L turbo petrol engines. The 1.5L turbo petrol engine in the Safari will offer 170PS of power and 280Nm of torque. It will also continue to offer the FCA-sourced 2.0L turbo diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

2023 Tata Safari Facelift Launch Timeline

Tata Motors are likely to launch the Safari facelift along with the Harrier facelift and Nexon facelift in August 2023. Tata Motors revealed their BS6 range back in 2020, which included the Tiago, Tigor, Altroz and Nexon. Similarly, Tata could refresh their entire SUV range, including the Harrier facelift, Safari facelift and Nexon facelift, before the 2023 festive season. The Punch compact SUV, which is relatively new, could also feature a few changes, including the addition of CNG and turbo petrol engine options.

2023 Tata Safari facelift first drive review

2023 Tata Safari facelift gets a bigger grille

Tata Motors had quite a task at hand while developing the second-generation Safari four years ago. Not only did it have to justify the legendary name tag with rugged looks, exceptional ride comfort and also be super capable, but it would also have to take on two competent rivals, the MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500 . Now, the list of rivals has grown, with vehicles like the Mahindra XUV700 , Toyota Innova HyCross , Kia Carens , and Hyundai Alcazar bringing their A-game, and the Safari, which has remained relatively unchanged since its beginning, has begun to feel a little antiquated in this company.

With this comprehensive 2023 facelift though, Tata intends to bring the Safari back into the game with sharpened styling, more tech and also a much-needed mechanical update — electric steering wheel. Let's see how it performs.

2023 Tata Safari facelift styling

Both the Safari and the Harrier facelifts have received a refreshed exterior, but this time around it's a lot easier to differentiate between the two. From afar the front of both SUVs might look identical, but closer inspection reveals a slightly different story. Both get a bigger parametric grille, but the Safari gets body coloured inserts in it and a brushed silver lip lower down on the front bumper. On the Harrier, both the grille and the lip are all-black which make it look more youthful, whereas the Safari is going for a more grown-up, executive, vibe. However, I would like to draw attention to the fact that there is definitely room for improvement in the way the body-coloured inserts on the grille are finished. The paint on our test vehicle had already begun to chip.

There are a few similarities between the two, the most identifiable of them is the full-width LED light bar connecting the DRLs. The next one are vertically stacked LED headlights, with the Safari getting a chrome inlay in them with 'Safari' badging. There's also an air vent under the headlight pods on either side to aid aerodynamics and cooling of brakes. The new Safari gets the option of 19-inch alloy wheels on its top-end trims. We saw this wheel design on the Sierra concept first and now it's in production on the Safari. And I have to say it's a really good looking wheel.

In profile, the SUV now features 'Safari' badging in the front doors and chrome door handle and window trim treatment. The tail section is revised and now boasts a full-width LED light bar connecting the wraparound tail lights. And just like the front, there's also a brushed silver skid plate adorning its rear.

Overall the new Safari looks more grown-up compared to the Harrier and that differentiation was important between the two brands, which Tata Motors had executed very cleanly.

2023 Tata Safari facelift interior and features

The pre-facelift Safari Red Dark edition pioneered Tata's new 13.2-inch infotainment system and it was a big step up on the archaic, smaller infotainment touchscreen the Safari made its debut with. But it still had its problems — it was laggy and didn't respond to fast touches well. That has been taken care of on the 2023 Safari facelift. It's now highly responsive and very intuitive to use.

Taking centre stage on the dashboard of the new Safari, is a new capacitive touch panel which controls the air-con settings, fog lights, the new electric tail gate and 360-degree camera system. There's also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster which displays a lot of information, even Google Maps. It's a little better than the one on the new Harrier, because it has bigger fonts and is therefore easier to read.

But the biggest change to the new Safari's interior is Tata's new four spoke digital steering wheel. It's bigger than the one we saw on the Nexon facelift and features an illuminated Tata logo in the centre. Flanking the centre digital pad are touch buttons to control your adaptive cruise and even audio volume. These buttons are nice to use but don't feel very high quality. They could do with a more tactile feel and better damping. If you opt for the automatic transmission, you also get paddle shifters behind this wheel, which also feel very cheap. Moreover, there's also a big problem with the way they function, more on that later.

There is a wireless charger, but the Safari also has a 45W Type-C USB port, which allows for fast charging of your devices via cable, as well as a Type-A port on the front. A panoramic sunroof with mood lighting, six-way electric driver's seat, four-way electric front passenger seat, front seat coolers, and configurable mood light are among the other features. But wait there's more, the Safari also gets front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree cameras, automated headlights, rain-sensing wipers and, of course, the new electric tailboard with gesture control.

You can opt for the ultra-comfy captain seats, which offer ventilation, on the second row of the Safari. Sure, they make it a six-seater, but if you want the ultimate chauffeur driven experience in this SUV, they're a no-brainer. Just like the Harrier, the rear headrests here get movable extension which aids comfort when you're taking a nap. The third row of the Safari gets a Type-C and a Type-A USB port, bespoke AC blower controls and vents. But just like before, it is better suited for kids and short adults due to the lack of knee room and under thigh support.

On the safety front this SUV gets seven airbags (even a knee airbag at the front, which is a first for this segment) as standard, ABS, ESP, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a whole host of ADAS features from the Red Dark edition like lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, rear traffic cross alert and the new addition of adaptive cruise control with stop and go.

2023 Tata Safari facelift steering and dynamics

The only mechanical, and a much needed, change to the new Safari is the new Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS). This system has done wonders to the way this SUV drives by completely changing its dynamics. The previous hydraulic unit felt too heavy at city speeds and too light at highway speeds. And because of those factors, it required all your attention when driving at higher speeds. Even with the slightest of undulations or imperfections on the road, the steering used to wander all over the place. But not anymore. The EPAS system eliminates all the steering kickbacks. It is light and makes a significant difference to the way the Safari now feels to drive both, in the city and on the highways. Sure, it lacks the outright feel a hydraulic unit gives you, but it is much more direct and that helps you to place the vehicle exactly where you want it to be.

The Safari is bigger and heavier than the Harrier and the way it can tackle corners now, with the EPAS, is even more impressive than its younger sibling. You can have a really good time behind its wheel. As expected, there is body roll, but it is very nicely controlled. The larger 245-section tyres (with these 19-inch wheels) provide excellent grip and allow you to take a corner a lot faster than you'd expect in an SUV this huge.

Nothing has changed in terms of the suspension because that was one area which didn't require tweaking at all. The Safari continues to be just as comfy and feel just as robust as before. The strong underpinnings and sorted suspension allows you to hammer down rough roads and keeps the SUV stable at triple digit speeds. Even with the bigger 19-inch wheels, it does a good job of ironing out the numerous potholes our country's roads are plagued with.

2023 Tata Safari continues to get diesel power

Both the Safari and Harrier will get the option of a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine in a couple of years, but for now the SUVs continue with diesel power. The tried and tested two-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 168bhp and 350Nm is retained on the facelifts. It's a powerhouse. Even on the heavier Safari, it never skips a beat. There's a good amount of low-end and mid-range grunt which ensures overtakes are a walk in the park, even when the SUV is fully loaded. For a diesel mill, it's fairly refined too. It is audible at higher revs, but doesn't pass on a lot of vibrations to the cabin or the steering wheel.

You have the option to choose between the six-speed manual or the six-speed torque converter automatic with this engine and what I sampled was the latter. This Hyundai sourced gearbox suits the character of the Safari a lot better than the manual. Tata Motors is also offering paddle shifters with this gearbox now but they are a big let down. They don't feel good to touch and seem to have a mind of their own. For starters, you can use them only in the 'Sport' mode. If you're driving in City mode and use either paddle, the Sport mode gets activated automatically, with an annoying voice prompt announcing that you've just switched and switches back to city mode after a while. But even when you're in the Sport mode, you don't get full control over the gearbox in manual mode. It doesn't let you shift under 1500rpm, or in some instances even under 2000rpm, and doesn't upshift at the redline. That beats the whole purpose of having them in the first place. This also means that efficiency will be ever so marginally affected if the car keeps defaulting to sport every time you use the paddle shifters. Another big niggle was the fact that the left and the right paddle had an inconsistent feel. One felt tactile while the other felt squishy.

2023 Tata Safari facelift verdict and price

The new Safari retains all the strong points of the pre-facelift model and grows on it. It is just as comfy and feels just as robust as before. It is now better than ever. It looks more modern, is a technological tour de force on the inside and with the electric steering has become an even better handler. But just like the Harrier, there are a few areas where it needs improvement, particularly in terms of overall fit and finish.

Things like the paint finishing on the grille, the finish around the gear lever was poor and the electric tailgate stopped working due to heavy usage. I’m sure all this will get sorted out in the days to come, but it should have been sorted out right at the start.

The Safari has always been priced aggressively and this facelift won't be an anomaly. Sure, it will demand a little premium over the pre-facelift model, but even then it will continue to be a good value for money product. The Tata Harrier and Tata Safari facelift prices will be announced on October 17, 2023. So stay tuned to evoindia.com and @evoindia on Instagram for our thoughts and analysis on the pricing as soon as it is out.

The 2023 Tata Safari Facelift: A Revamped Icon with Enhanced Features

The mere mention of the Tata Safari evokes images of a powerful, imposing SUV. For an entire generation, the term ‘SUV’ was synonymous with Tata’s iconic Safari, a mainstay in the hearts of automobile enthusiasts for over two decades. Alongside the Sierra and Sumo models, the Safari stood as the foundation of the brand, captivating the nation as India’s inaugural domestically produced 4WD SUV in 1998. Its daring design, off-road prowess, and seamless ride quality endeared it to the masses. The Safari wasn’t just a vehicle; it became a symbol of aspiration for India’s burgeoning middle class in the 90s and early 2000s, outshining the hatchbacks of its era and drawing the admiration of the influential and powerful.

Recognizing the need for a transformation, Tata Motors embarked on a formidable challenge four years ago: to craft a second-generation Safari that upheld its legendary status while embracing contemporary features and advanced capabilities. As new contenders like the Mahindra XUV700, Toyota Innova HyCross, Kia Carens, and Hyundai Alcazar entered the scene, the Safari, relatively unchanged since its inception, began to display signs of ageing. This ambitious endeavour has culminated in the unveiling of the 2023 Tata Safari facelift.

Today, we stand on the brink of testing this eagerly anticipated version, brimming with excitement and anticipation for the new chapter it promises in the Safari’s enduring legacy.

Exterior Upgrades Both the Safari and Harrier facelifts have received refreshed exteriors, each with unique features differentiating them. The Safari boasts body-coloured inserts in its larger parametric grille and a brushed silver lip on the lower front bumper. In contrast, the Harrier’s grille and lips are entirely black, exuding a youthful vibe. While the body-coloured grille inserts on the Safari revealed signs of chipping, these issues are expected to be resolved in future iterations.

Both SUVs share similarities, including the full-width LED light bar connecting the DRLs and vertically stacked LED headlights. The Safari’s headlights feature a chrome inlay and ‘Safari’ badging, enhancing its distinct identity. Additionally, air vents under the headlight pods aid in aerodynamics and brake cooling. The new Safari offers 19-inch alloy wheels on its top-end trims, a design inspired by the Sierra concept, emphasizing Tata’s commitment to aesthetics and functionality.

In profile, the SUV proudly displays ‘Safari’ badging on the front doors and features chrome door handles and window trims. The rear showcases a full-width LED light bar connecting wraparound taillights and a brushed silver skid plate, completing the sophisticated look.

Interior and Tech The 2023 Safari facelift marks a significant leap in interior and technological features. The previous Safari Red Dark edition introduced Tata’s new 13.2-inch infotainment system, replacing the outdated, smaller touchscreen of the earlier model. The new system, highly responsive and intuitive, enhances the overall driving experience.

new tata safari headlight

The dashboard hosts a new capacitive touch panel controlling air-con settings, fog lights, the electric tailgate, and the 360-degree camera system. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, displaying comprehensive information, including Google Maps, further amplifies the interior’s technological prowess. Tata’s new four-spoke digital steering wheel, featuring an illuminated Tata logo and touch buttons for adaptive cruise and audio volume control, adds a touch of sophistication. Automatic transmission variants come with paddle shifters, although their quality and functionality require refinement.

The interior offers a wireless charger, a 45W Type-C USB port for fast charging, a panoramic sunroof with mood lighting, a six-way electric driver’s seat, a four-way electric front passenger seat, front seat coolers, and configurable mood lighting. The Safari also incorporates front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree cameras, automated headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and an electric tailboard with gesture control.

For the second row, Tata provides ultra-comfortable captain seats with ventilation, creating a luxurious six-seater configuration. The rear headrests feature movable extensions for added comfort during naps. The third row, while equipped with USB ports and bespoke AC controls, is better suited for children and short adults due to limited knee room and under-thigh support.

Steering and Driving Dynamics The most significant mechanical change in the new Safari is the introduction of the Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system, revolutionizing its driving dynamics. Unlike the previous hydraulic unit, the EPAS system offers a consistent and direct feel, eliminating steering kickbacks and enhancing the driving experience both in city traffic and on highways. Although lacking the nuanced feedback of a hydraulic system, the EPAS system offers precision, allowing for precise vehicle placement.

new tata safari headlight

Despite its larger size and weight, the Safari manoeuvres corners effortlessly, thanks to the EPAS system. While some body roll is present, it is expertly controlled. The 245-section tires provide exceptional grip, enabling the Safari to handle corners with surprising agility for an SUV of its size.

Powertrain The 2023 Safari retains its tried and tested, FCA-sourced 2-litre turbo-diesel engine, producing 168bhp and 350Nm. This robust engine effortlessly handles the Safari’s weight, providing ample low-end and mid-range power for effortless overtakes, even with a full load. The diesel engine’s refinement is noteworthy, with minimal vibrations reaching the cabin or the steering wheel.

new tata safari headlight

Transmission options include a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic, the latter being the choice for our test drive. Tata Motors has introduced paddle shifters with this gearbox, although their functionality leaves much to be desired. Limited to the ‘Sport’ mode, these paddles do not provide full control over the gearbox, restricting downshifts below certain RPMs and refusing upshifts at the redline. This inconsistency undermines the purpose of having paddle shifters, impacting both performance and efficiency.

new tata safari headlight

Verdict The 2023 Tata Safari facelift builds upon the strengths of its predecessor, introducing several enhancements. While it maintains exceptional comfort, robust build, and off-road prowess, there are areas, such as finishing details and the quality of certain components, that require attention.

new tata safari headlight

Tata Motors is expected to adhere to its aggressive pricing strategy with the Safari facelift, offering excellent value for money. Although a slight premium can be anticipated over the previous model, Safari’s competitive pricing will continue to make it an attractive choice in the market. The official prices for the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari facelifts will be unveiled on October 17, 2023.

Safari (facelift): Know all changes coming to Tata's flagship SUV

The upcoming Safari (facelift) has been generating excitement as Tata Motors continues to unveil teasers leading up to its eagerly awaited debut in India. The latest teaser showcases the SUV's new dual-tone alloy wheels, which seem larger than before, giving the vehicle a more assertive stance. This represents the first major design update for the rugged four-wheeler since its initial launch in February 2021.

The SUV will feature design enhancements for an upmarket look

The refreshed Tata Safari will feature several design enhancements, such as a new grille, full-width LED DRLs, and automatic LED headlights. Additionally, connected LED taillamps and revamped bumpers will also be included. While the interiors are under wraps, it's expected to resemble the recently teased Harrier (facelift), which will offer numerous high-end features such as a panoramic sunroof, a premium sound system, and a large infotainment panel with connectivity options.

Powertrain options will likely include a new turbo-petrol motor

The Safari (facelift) is anticipated to retain its current 170hp, 2.0-liter diesel engine, with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, there are rumors that Tata may introduce an all-new 1.5-liter T-GDI turbo-petrol engine option, which could likely be offered with a Dual Clutch Automatic (DCA) and 6-speed manual gearbox. The new petrol motor might lure in more potential buyers.

When will the Tata Safari (facelift) launch in India?

The launch of the new Tata Safari is expected to occur in the coming days, with pre-bookings scheduled to begin today. The updated model will carry a premium over its predecessor, which ranges between Rs. 15.85 lakh and Rs. 25.21 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). Once launched, the refreshed model will rival the likes of the MG Hector Plus , Hyundai ALCAZAR , and Mahindra XUV700 .

2000 km in 4 days with my new Tata Safari facelift: 10 Pros & 7 Cons

car

Had the Nexon EV Prime previously and currently own the Nexon EV Max, alongside the new Safari.

BHPian shashankw839 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I am also a fellow Safari Accomplished Plus owner. I have recently purchased the car. I have been a strong EV enthusiast but there are no options in 7-seater cars in EVs so decided to pick up the Safari. I have owned the Nexon EV Prime before but my experience was not good and also now have the Nexon EV Max which has certain niggles too and I am waiting for a proper resolution still. I have owned tons of cars from different brands so far but love to support our brands and want them to succeed. However, I must sadly say that the customer service approach from our local brands particularly Tata and Mahindra is not up to the mark for sure. I’ll list some pros and cons I found with my car after driving it for 2000 in 4 days recently.

Tata Safari facelift Pros:

  • The car is solidly built. The LR platform outshines on the highways. The car eats up the miles in comfort.
  • Seating comfort for 7 passengers is quite good. I have the 7 seater configuration and 6 adults and 1 kid could travel without feeling cramped for space. The last row is usable by adults too.
  • Cameras are crisp and clear in the daytime and are okay in the nighttime. The parking guidelines are accurate. The 360-degree camera and front and back sensors are a boon to handle the bulky size of the vehicle.
  • The JBL music system is simply awesome. It’s too good for the car at this price point. The infotainment screen is crisp and Android Auto and Apple carplay being wireless is a very good feature.
  • The car has ample charging sockets for all occupants. The utility part of the car is neatly done.
  • Seats are super comfortable for all occupants. Just the right amount of cushion and ergonomics for everyone. Seat ventilation is a bonus.
  • I am simply blown away by the suspension setup on the car. I have used luxury cars with 2x and 3x the price of the safari and they would also unsettle on some bad road conditions when driven with full load. However, the safari is rock solid on bad roads. The suspension setup is very impressive.
  • The electronic power steering is light to drive and does not cause any fatigue. The driving position is perfect for my liking and I could do almost 500+ kms a day on an avg for 4 days straight without getting tired.
  • The engine is very well refined and noise levels are well isolated from the cabin. A commendable job has been done to make the cabin experience smooth on the new version.
  • The engine is very efficient as well. At lower three-digit speeds constantly, I could extract 13-15 km/l mileage with a full load which is very good.

Tata Safari facelift Cons:

  • The legacy of cons remains and they need to be sorted by Tata ASAP for the product to succeed. The first and foremost is the fit and finish of the car. There are uneven panel gaps all over the cabin and on the exterior.
  • The paint finish is not up to the mark at all places on the car. The fitment of plastic parts in the interior is not correct in many parts of the car. This causes some rattles when travelling.
  • The biggest hit-and-miss is Adas functions. In 4 days of travel, I got ADAS sensor malfunction warnings around 6 times. Adaptive cruise control would become unavailable when the sensor used to go mad. Lane keep assist is not active and the lane departure warning is very late in responding. Collision assist also does not work well and is very late to warn even when sensitivity is set to the highest level. Overall ADAS calibration is not up to the mark. The only thing that I found working correctly was the rear cross-traffic alert.
  • The OE tyres provided with the cars are hard. The lower trims get Bridgestones while the top trim gets MRFs with an odd size. The size 245/55 R19 is very odd and if you end up damaging one of your tyres, it is very hard to find a tyre of this size easily. I have upgraded my tyres to Pirelli Pzeros and they have made a huge difference to the car and its handling.
  • There are hardly any accessories available for the car with TML. The floor mats they provided do not match and they say it might take some months for the mats to arrive. So the car gets dirty easily.
  • As I said the cons continue and so another big issue is the lack of knowledge of the model with TML technicians. I took the car 2 times to the dealership so far and both times did not have a great experience. First, it was for the number plate fitment and the person there started fitting the plate right in front of the Adas sensor and was not even aware that he was going to block the radar. Fortunately, another technician was available who could understand what I was saying and then repositioned the plate. The second time the fog light was making noise and was loose and the technician mentioned that the full bumper needed to be taken down while it was just a matter of removing one cover from the wheel arch.
  • The headlights on the car are not good at all for highway conditions. The throw is not bright enough and neither it is long enough. The spread is ok but the throw is hardly 150-200 feet even on a high beam. Tata needs to provide better headlights for sure for safety reasons. I had to drive very cautiously at night due to the bad headlights.

Overall, it is a great car and Tata has come a long way with its improvements, however, they need to solve the niggles and basic customer service issues asap to give the owners a better experience. The issues with ADAS need to be solved on priority because they are related to safety.

Tata Curvv & Curvv EV launch set for August 7, 2024

The Tata Curvv and Curvv EV seem to have completed all their tests and checks as Tata Motors will launch the Coupe SUV on August 7, 2024. What's surprising is that Tata is expected to reveal both the ICE and EV versions of the car on the same day. The Curvv concept was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo and a production-ready concept was showcased earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Expo.

Tata Curvv & Curvv EV: Design

The pre-production concept model's prior photos show that its design will be in line with the most recent SUVs from Tata. It will have dual-projector LED headlights inside triangle clusters at the bottom and a sleek LED strip on top up front. The Curvv EV is also anticipated to include a linked LED DRL with welcome and farewell features, as well as a closed grille. Its powerful wheel arches are visible from the side, but the most striking feature is the steeply dipping roofline. Furthermore, the Curvv will be smaller than the Harrier but larger than the Nexon.

Tata Curvv & Curvv EV: Powertrain

Something the Curvv will borrow from the Nexon is its powertrains. The Curvv is expected to be offered with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 125PS and 225Nm and 115PS and 260Nm, respectively. The available transmissions will probably include a 6-speed DCT, a 6-speed AMT, and a 6-speed manual.

The Curvv EV on the other hand might not get the same powertrain as the Nexon EV. It will be built on the Gen 2 EV architecture and is expected to have a claimed range of 500 kilometres. There will be 2 powertrains, one of which is expected to have an all-wheel drive setup.

Tata Curvv & Curvv EV: Interior & Features

new tata safari headlight

The interior decor looks to be different than on the Nexon, while the arrangement is similar, with the free-floating touchscreen situated over the sleek central AC vents. The Curvv has the same rotary knob as the Nexon for controlling the various driving modes, as well as the same gear lever in front of it. The bulky four-spoke steering, however, differs from the Nexon and is more akin to what we've seen on larger Tata SUVs such as the Harrier and Safari.

It will come loaded with features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, ventilated front seats, keyless entry with push button start/stop, wireless phone charging, a large panoramic sunroof, and an automatic climate control unit. Its safety features are believed to include six airbags, a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC) and even level 2 ADAS.

Tata Curvv & Curvv EV: Pricing

As for pricing, expect the Curvv to start from somewhere around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and a range-topping variant set to be priced at Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). The Curvv EV should be priced at Rs 16 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

  • Tata Safari Red #Dark Edition - First Look

Authors Image

What is it?

Tata ’s bustling pavilion at the Auto Expo 2023 had some eye-catching concept cars, a glimpse of future electric products, and some updated versions of existing models. Though not in the limelight, these updated versions featured some significant changes which are expected to make a substantial impact in their respective segments. One of these products was the Safari Red #Dark Edition.

The Dark Edition range is not a new phenomenon in Tata’s lineup, and changes to these special-edition cars are mostly limited to cosmetics with some minor feature additions. In the case of the Safari, the last Dark Edition variant featured an exclusive ‘Oberon Black’ paint scheme, de-chromed highlights and #Dark badges on the outside, and an all-black interior theme with blue highlights. It also had three new features — ventilated seats, an onboard air purifier, and wireless smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Now, the new Tata Safari Red Dark Edition is more than just another cosmetic update to the SUV range. There are a whole lot of new features which will significantly improve owner experience as well as safety. On the outside, the Safari Red #Dark Edition features the same black paint scheme and de-chromed elements and badges as the regular Dark Edition variant. Blink and you could miss the many elements which are exclusive to this version, which includes a small red insert in the grille, red brake calipers, and the 'Dark' badges featuring lettering in red rather than black.

You might also notice the set of cameras around the car; these are part of the 360-degree parking assist camera setup which we will talk about in detail later. Then there’s the rectangular box-like addition to the mesh grille in the front bumper, which is part of the new Advanced Driver Assistance System, and we shall elaborate upon that too in a while.

How is it on the inside?

The Safari hasn’t received a refresh since it was first launched in 2021, so Tata used the 2023 Auto Expo as a platform to showcase the changes to be introduced in the Safari and Harrier range in the near future. While changes to the exterior need to be pointed out, the changes inside are immediately noticeable.

The most significant change is the addition of a new infotainment screen, which is much larger than the 8.8-inch unit found in the older models. The UI design is new too, though we cannot say if it is better than before till we get the new Safari for a road test. At first glance, the graphics on the screen look modern and usability seems to be much easier than before. The larger screen also ties in nicely with the 360-degree parking assist camera system.

The driver will also appreciate the all-digital instrument cluster, which is expected to be offered on all top-of-the-line trims of the updated Harrier. This replaces the previous semi-digital instrument cluster and utilises the space for better visibility of the information as per the driver’s requirements. The new instrument cluster also complements the new ADAS system added to the Safari.

In terms of design, the changes are limited to the dashboard. The addition of the larger screen has required a slight redesign of the hexagonal unit, which surrounds the centre AC vents, and some buttons which used to completely surround the previous touchscreen. Now, the touchscreen floats on top of this panel.

Cosmetically, the changes seen in the Safari Red Dark Edition are expected to be exclusive to the special-edition variant. This includes the ‘Carnelian Red’ leatherette upholstery for the seats with a quilt-like stitching pattern, red grab handles on the doors and the front centre console, and a new ambient lighting feature. Moreover, this Safari features ambient lighting hidden along the rails of the panoramic sunroof, thus adding a subtle luxurious feel to the cabin.

What kind of features will it get?

The Safari was already a feature-loaded family SUV and the Red Dark addition previews a significant upgrade to the range.

Now, let’s talk ADAS, shall we? Unlike the systems offered on the Mahindra XUV700 and the MG Hector Plus , the Safari Red Dark Edition features Level 1 ADAS. This means it only provides one type of automatic intervention, which is in the form of Autonomous Emergency Braking. The system utilises the radar mounted on the front bumper and the forward-facing camera placed on the top of the front windshield to recognise a potential collision course with another car, pedestrian, or some obstacles and automatically brakes if the driver does not do so themselves.

Other ADAS features include traffic sign recognition (which could save you from speeding fines), high beam assist (prevents you from a head-on collision with oncoming traffic blinded by the Safari’s headlights), lane departure warning (saves you from getting side-swiped by other traffic), and blind-spot detection (tells you if there are cars or bikes hiding in the rear quarter of the car). There’s also the lane change alert (stops you from merging into traffic coming from behind), door open alert (warns you of approaching vehicles when opening doors), rear cross-traffic alert (warns of approaching vehicles when reversing out of a parking spot), and rear collision warning (warns you to not brake as hard as there may be vehicles behind who will not brake in time).

The all-new 10.25-inch touchscreen that stood proudly on the dashboard has not just been added for a size-measuring contest but features updated graphics and promises a better user experience. Moreover, being larger makes the screen better to view. It also gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces, as well as the new 360-degree parking assist camera function.

Behind the steering wheel is a new seven-inch all-digital instrument cluster which allows for both multiple information displays or dedicated, legible displays — depending on the driver’s preferences. This new instrument cluster also acts as a large display for the ADAS, with warnings being clearly shown to the driver along with audio cues.

Some of the feature highlights carried over from the previous model include ventilated captain seats (including rear seats in the six-seater variants), one-button ‘Boss Mode’ activation of the front passenger seat, six-way powered driver seat with welcome function, aeroplane-inspired ‘winged’ headrests, and a wireless charging pad.

What is it powered by?

At the Auto Expo 2023, Tata showcased the Safari Red Dark Edition with the existing 2.0-litre, ‘Kryotec’ turbo-diesel engine. Developing a maximum of 168bhp and 350Nm, this engine can be had with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Tata will make some changes to the powertrain to make it BS6 phase 2 compatible, information on which is not currently available.

What about its price, competition, and launch?

Tata officially started accepting bookings for the updated Harrier and Safari on 16 February, 2023, and we expect them to be launched in the first week of March 2023. The Safari Red Dark Edition will be a part of this update. The addition of a BS6 phase 2 engine and some feature updates is expected to increase the Safari’s ex-showroom prices by a minimum of Rs 50,000, while the top-of-the-line XZ Plus trim variants could see prices go up by up to Rs 1.5 lakh, thanks to the addition of ADAS. With this, we expect the new Tata Safari range to be priced from Rs 16 lakh to Rs 24.5 lakh. Meanwhile, the competition for the Safari will continue to be the recently-updated MG Hector Plus , Mahindra XUV700 , and the Hyundai Alcazar .

Tata Curvv EV launch in coming months, worthy rival for Hyundai Creta EV

Tata curvv ev price is expected to start at around rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom)..

Listen to Story

Tata Curvv EV

The country's largest electric car manufacturer, Tata Motors, is gearing up to introduce the Tata Curvv electric SUV. The company already has a strong electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, including the Tata Nexon.ev, Tata Punch.ev, Tata Tigor.ev and Tata Tiago.ev.

Tata Motors retailed 64,217 units of EVs in FY24 with a market share of 70.6%, according to data from the industry body Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The company's EV sales grew 65.8% year-on-year during the fiscal.

Tata Motors is the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to have two five-star safety-rated electric SUVs, the Tata Nexon.ev and Tata Punch.ev. The vehicles got these ratings at Bharat NCAP.

The Tata Curvv EV made its debut in concept form in 2022. In the past few months, the EV has been spied testing on several occasions. Even Tata Motors has started teasing the Curvv EV, pointing towards the fact that the electric SUV has now reached the production stage.

To clarify, while the Tata Curvv will first enter the market as an electric model, it will subsequently be followed by its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart.

The Tata Curvv EV boasts impressive features, including a sleek LED light bar, neatly sculpted LED headlights, and muscular bumpers. The sloping roofline gives it an SUV-coupe design. Inside the cabin, features like a floating touchscreen infotainment display, a fully digital instrument console, a two-spoke steering wheel with a touch panel, and touch-based HVAC controls, are expected.

On a single full charge, the Tata Curvv EV range is expected to be between 400km and 500km. It might be available in both single-motor and dual-motor setups, with the dual-motor version offering an all-wheel drive configuration.

The Tata Curvv EV price is expected to start at around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
