A Tour of Schakolad Chocolate Factory in The Woodlands
For 12 years, the Kearneys have prepared high quality chocolates at its family-owned shop, Schakolad Chocolate Factory, in The Woodlands at 1500 Research Forest Drive. The Schakolad Chocolate Factory is preparing for the biggest chocolate selling days of the year where they sell approximately 600 pounds of chocolate during the Valentine’s Day rush.
“I start thinking about the person who will receive these gifts from the moment I start cooking the chocolate,” said Veronica Kearney, owner of Schakolad Chocolate Factory in The Woodlands. “My chocolate is a vehicle to spread joy, and everyone buying chocolate for Valentine’s Day is thinking about someone very special to them – I take that very seriously.”
Thankfully the Kearneys and their staff began preparing for the Valentine’s rush in late January, pouring ganache, dipping truffles and molding decadent treats like chocolate teddy bears, personalized chocolate bars and chocolate high-heeled shoes. The entire family gets involved with Veronica working with staff members Daisy and Leah to make the chocolate, Veronica’s mother wrapping the boxes, and Veronica’s husband Jerry taking custom orders over the phone.
Hello Woodlands had the delicious opportunity of taking a tour, learning more about how chocolate is made, and tasting a variety of chocolates – including freshly made dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate.
We asked, “Why get in the business of chocolate?” Veronica Kearney replied, “I love making people smile, and that’s what I get to do every day.”
Since 2005, the Schakolad Chocolate Factory in The Woodlands has created hand-made European-style chocolates, unique molded items, sugar free chocolates, and more using the highest quality ingredients—all prepared onsite. The store uses no preservatives, waxes, paraffin or other additives and provides vegan-friendly, allergy-friendly, gluten-free and sugar-free options.
It all started with a box of chocolate. After a special request from a local girl scout troop, Schakolad started offering chocolate tours. Next, came birthday parties, then summer camps, classes for adults, and even team-building experiences for companies. During each gathering, Schakolad explains the history, process and trends in chocolate and offering a hands-on opportunity to make, mold, decorate and taste their chocolate creations. After the Valentine’s Day rush, the shop will also host a Saturday, February 17 chocolate making class for adults and is taking reservations for up to 14 guests.
The Kearneys love being a part of their customers’ lives and sharing sweet memories for generation after generation. Veronica shared how they had the honor of creating a gender reveal treat for a couple expecting twins. In creating Schakolad’s cake balls, pink cake was secretly dipped in chocolate then presented to the expecting couple, and after two bites – the pink cake was revealed and the couple discovered they were having twin girls at the family party. From baby showers to wedding showers, the Kearneys and staff at Schakolad enjoy growing up with their customers and families.

In the beginning....
It all started in 1938 when a young 18 year old Herman Bar decided to leave his home in Graben, Germany to travel to Zurich, Switzerland with the hope of learning the craft of chocolate.
With a degree in hand from the Elite Zukofa Pastry School, he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina dreaming of the perfect little chocolateria.
After renting a small marble table in a shared workspace, he began to mold his dream.

Forty years later and with the help of his son-in-law Bernie Schaked, Chocolates Bariloche became the largest Chocolate Factory in Argentina running 24 hours a day and employing over 300 people.

The father and son duo decided to share their American Dream with others by franchising the concept.

Alongside Edgar`s wife, Aileen Mand Schaked and their children, Max and Sophie, they travelled to Chocolate Factories and Museums and Cacao Plantations around the world to understand how others present the story of chocolate.

Our chocolates are “Made Fresh on Premises” using a tried and true three-generation European style family recipe that calls for the highest quality ingredients and attention to design detail.
The “Made Fresh on Premises” concept means that chocolate items do not come pre-packaged from Headquarters, rather that items are prepared and dipped at each individual retail location allowing our franchise owners the flexibility to be creative and customize our fresh products to the customer’s request.
