When does the Automatic Monthly Billing $100 initial deposit offer expire?

Enroll in Automatic Monthly Billing through March 7, 2024 to take advantage of our $100 deposit offer. Remaining monthly payments will be evenly divided. To see exact payments and deposit options, please visit the pricing calculator .

The premium for any purchased Travel Protection is also due upon booking.

How does automatic monthly billing work?

Enroll in automatic monthly billing, and relax knowing that your future payments will be made automatically. When you book, we'll calculate an even monthly payment plan and you'll choose the day of the month you want your payments to be processed. It's that easy!

Can multiple people in a stateroom do automated billing?

Yes.  Each Seasider can setup their own automatic billing.  If all Seasiders in the cabin enroll, one Seasider must have Total Automatic Billing and the rest will have Choose Your Amount plans.  The Seasider with Total Automatic Billing will cover the complete balance not covered by the Choose Your Amount plans.

For instance, if two guests book a double cabin for $3000, one Seasider can do Choose Your Amount automatic billing for $1500, and the other Headliner can do Total Automatic Billing for the remaining $1500.  If the balance changes the guest with Total Automatic Billing will have their payments automatically adjusted.

The first automatic billing plan can be setup online at the time of booking.  To add additional automatic billing plans please give us a call after your reservation is created.

What is the official cancellation policy?

ALL DEPOSITS AND PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.   If you wish to protect your investment, we strongly recommend the purchase of travel protection . We've teamed up with Travel Insured to offer two levels of protection: a standard insurance policy and a 50% Cancel for Any Reason add-on policy.

  • Travel Insured's standard policy will reimburse cancellations at 100% of monies paid for covered cancellation reasons.
  • Travel Insured's Cancel For Any Reason add-on policy will reimburse up to 50% of monies paid when cancelling for any reason not covered by the standard policy when cancelled at least 48 hours prior to sailing.

To review both insurance coverage policy details, please go here . If you have cruise insurance and need to cancel for a covered condition, you can make a claim with Travel Insured to recover any lost payments.

See the Ticketing Contract for full details.

What are Norwegian's updated health and safety protocols?

When making a decision on your reservation, we know that onboard health and safety is top of mind for you. We are pleased to share recent enhancements to Norwegian Cruise Line's health and safety standards that are extraordinarily robust. Please take a moment to review them here and contact us if you have any questions.

Will Seasiders need to show proof of vaccination for the event?

Given the worldwide relaxation of global protocols and travel requirements, Norwegian Cruise Line and Sixthman have updated our protocols to further align to those of the broader travel, leisure and hospitality industry, making it easier for guests to return to sea with us. Effective for all sailings as of October 4, 2022, we welcome all guests to sail with us, regardless of vaccination status and age, and with no testing or masking requirements.

Please note that destination specific travel requirements supersede any NCL embarkation protocols. Visit ncl.com/travel-requirements-by-country for more details. There may be additional testing requirements and/or entry forms for certain embarkation ports and/or ports of call along an itinerary. We encourage you to check back as your vacation approaches, as regulations may change, and make sure to complete any necessary forms before leaving home.

For Norwegian Cruise Line’s comprehensive SailSAFE protocols and FAQs, please refer to ncl.com/sail-safe .

Do I need a passport? What type of identification will I need to board the ship?

Remember, at time of booking, you acknowledged that the laws that regulate the  necessary travel documentation  are subject to change and that it is your responsibility to be aware of what is required for travel.

View the latest information from Norwegian at ncl.com/traveldocs .  Below are recommendations based on the current U.S. government policy. This information could be updated without notice.

Please note that the name on your ticket must match the name on your passport or you will need to provide an original copy of proof of change of name (marriage license, etc).

U.S. Citizens

Sixthman highly recommends all guests travel with a passport valid for at least six months beyond completion of travel. Although a passport is not required for U.S. citizens taking cruises that begin & end in the same U.S. port, traveling with a passport enhances your disembarkation experience, as delays may be expected upon your return to the U.S. if you do not have one. Additionally, passports make it easier for you to fly from the U.S. to a foreign port should you miss your scheduled port of embarkation, or need to fly back to the U.S. for emergency reasons. If you do not have a passport you can use an original or state certified copy of a Birth Certificate as listed below.

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) allows U.S. citizens (including children) sailing on cruises that begin and end in the same U.S. port to travel with one of the following WHTI compliant document:

  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Passport Card
  • Enhanced Driver's License (EDL)
  • Original or state certified copy of a Birth Certificate   PLUS a government-issued photo ID*
  • Certificate of Naturalization   PLUS a government-issued photo ID*

*A government-issued photo ID is also required for all guests. For more information, a complete list of WHTI-compliant documents or to obtain a passport application, visit travel.state.gov .

For more information or to obtain a passport application, visit travel.state.gov .

Non-U.S. Citizens

All Seasiders must carry a valid passport, and if necessary, a multiple entry visa is required for entry into the United States (i.e. B-2 Visitors Visa), or a visa waiver. Please be sure to check with the proper agencies and authorities (such as your local immigration office) before you sail because we can't board you without the proper documents. Travelers from the 38 Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries* must have a machine-readable passport to enter the U.S. without a visa. All VWP travelers are required to obtain an electronic travel authorization prior to boarding a carrier to travel by air or sea to the U.S. under the VWP.

*ANDORRA, AUSTRALIA, AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, BRUNEI, CHILE, CZECH REPUBLIC, DENMARK, ESTONIA, FINLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY, GREECE, HUNGARY, ICELAND, IRELAND, ITALY, JAPAN, LATVIA, LIECHTENSTEIN, LITHUANIA, LUXEMBOURG, MALTA, MONACO, NETHERLANDS, NEW ZEALAND, NORWAY, PORTUGAL, REP. OF KOREA , SAN MARINO, SINGAPORE, SLOVAKIA, SLOVENIA, SPAIN, SWEDEN, SWITZERLAND, TAIWAN and UNITED KINGDOM.

If you are not a US Citizen and are uncertain that you have the correct documentation please call US Immigrations at 1-800-375-5283 to be sure your identification will be satisfactory.

Alien Residents of the United States holding an Alien Registration Card (ARC or "Green Card") (Form I-551) may travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda (see Visa Restrictions on Bermuda) and the Caribbean with just their valid ARC and Proof of Identity. However, it is recommended that these guests also carry their passports from their country of citizenship if available. In some instances, ARC holders may still be required to have sailing permits and/or visas to enter countries Norwegian Cruise Line visits in these areas. Please note that travel anywhere else in the world requires a valid passport from the country you are a citizen of and subsequently subjects you to any documentation, visa and health requirements of all countries visited.

What if I do not have proper identification?

There is no Jedi Mind Trick around this, you MUST have proper identification to be permitted to board the ship. If you arrive at port without proper identification, while Sixthman will assist you in contacting the appropriate agencies, we cannot guarantee that you can successfully attain proper identification from the port, and this may result in being denied boarding without compensation. And this makes us sad.

Birth Certificates

These are ok.

sixthman travel insurance

State certified, U.S. Birth Certificates only, most of which say 'Certified Copy.' Photo copies are not valid. Color, size, layout and flowery-but-official-looking-border on certificate may vary from state to state.

These are NOT OK

sixthman travel insurance

Do not bring your hospital certificate. If it says 'this is not a legal document.' Then it's not a legal document. We like you but we don't want to see your feet.

Am I guaranteed access to all shows on board?

EDSea is run “festival style,” with multiple shows going on simultaneously.  Every show on board EDSea is included with your pass, so you are welcome to hit each & every dance floor! All supporting artists on the lineup will play multiple times, so you’ll have ample chances to catch your favorites.

There are some performances where capacity is limited, but don't worry! Each artist will perform multiple times during the cruise.

What is the cruise itinerary?

Subject to change, the cruise itinerary is:  .

  • Saturday, November 2, 2024 - Port of Miami All Aboard by 7:30pm ET (Terminal closes 30 mins prior)
  • Sunday, November 3 - Bimini, Bahamas (Arrive: 7:00am & Docked Overnight)

  • Tuesday, November 5 - Day at Sea
  • Wednesday, November 6 - Arrive Port of Miami (Disembarkation begins around 7:30am ET)

Can the itinerary change? Though it is rarely necessary, Norwegian Cruise Line reserves the right to alter the itinerary due to adverse weather, safety concerns, port closings, or mechanical issues. Sixthman works closely with Norwegian to preserve the scheduled itinerary and will communicate any changes to guests at the earliest opportunity.

When should I plan to arrive and depart from Miami?

When booking flights we recommend that you arrive in Miami no later than 12:00pm, or in Ft. Lauderdale no later than 11:00am on November 2. Return flights should be arranged to leave Miami after 12:00pm on November 6, or leave Ft. Lauderdale after 1:00pm.

Please allow additional time for customs clearance for international flights.

How are currencies going to work?

EDSea is sold in US Dollars and all charges incurred prior to sailing will be charged as USD. Currency conversion shown on the website is for example purposes only. All pre-sailing payments will be processed as USD and non-USD accounts are subject to your bank’s exchange rate at the time of each transaction and are also subject to any foreign transaction fees of your bank.

All onboard charges will be listed and charged in US Dollars and non-USD accounts are subject to your bank’s exchange rate at the time of each transaction and are also subject to any foreign transaction fees of your bank.

Will the artists be on board the whole time?

Our artists are excited to join you on board for the whole event. However, there may be some cases where they must join us during the trip or depart early due to schedule or family commitments.

Can I attend if I am pregnant or just had a baby?

Norwegian will make every effort to accommodate you, providing you have not entered the 24th week of pregnancy when the cruise ends. Please include your cruise details in an email to the Access Desk  or [email protected] with a medical certificate establishing your due date prior to the cruise.

Infants under six months of age are not eligible for travel on Norwegian ships.

What is the process for bringing and storing breast milk on board?   After you have received your Norwegian Cruise Line reservation number (approximately 4-6 weeks prior to sailing) please reach out to the   Access Desk   and they will make note on your boarding pass to allow you to bring breast milk through security upon embarkation. For storing breast milk on board, you can request to have your mini-fridge emptied out in advance with the Access Desk or with your cabin steward on board. For cabins without a mini-fridge, you can request for breast milk to be stored by your cabin steward on board or for an ice bucket to be provided for the room.

What are my breast feeding options while in port?   While there are no designated breastfeeding areas while in port, please see a staff member for recommendations. Additionally, all Headliners are able to easily exit and board the ship at their leisure to access cabins while we are docked in port.

What service charges should I expect to see on board?

A fixed service charge will be added to your onboard spending account in the amount of $20.00* per person per day for Interiors, Ocean Views, Balconies, and Club Balcony Suites and $25.00* per person per day for Suites.

The reason there's a fixed service charge is an important one: the ship crew is encouraged to work together as a team. Staff members including restaurant staff, stateroom stewards and behind-the-scenes support staff are compensated by a combination of salary and incentive programs that your service charge supports.

Additionally, a 20% auto-service charge will be applied for some other onboard services and experiences. These include, but are not limited to, beverage purchases (alcohol and non-alcoholic as well as ALL beverage packages), specialty dining packages, alcohol tastings, and spa and salon services.

While you are welcome to extend additional gratuities at your discretion, these minimum service charges are agreed to be paid by you upon booking your stateroom.  Should your concerns not be met with satisfaction you can adjust the charges.

*Prices subject to change.

What is the performance schedule and how does admission work?

The exact performance schedule will be released HERE prior to the cruise, but count on each band playing multiple times with festival scheduling and multiple shows occurring on multiple stages!

What happens once the staterooms you have allotted for sale as First Available are sold out?

Prior to 30 days before sailing (October 3, 2024) , any newly available staterooms will be released weekly on Fridays at 1PM ET to the general public. Stateroom availability depends on how many First Available Staterooms have been assigned that week; some weeks there may be no new staterooms available, while other weeks there may be several new staterooms available.

Beginning 30 days prior to sailing (October 3, 2024) , any newly available cabins will be released daily at 1pm ET.

Sign up for our email newsletter and text updates to stay informed of event updates. Once we have fulfilled all committed First Available bookings to a stateroom, all periodically released staterooms will be available on a first come, first served basis.

What is the First Available guarantee? What happens if I book a First Available Stateroom and do not get placed in a stateroom by 30 days prior to sailing?

Our goal is to accommodate 99% of our First Available bookings.

If we are unable to assign you to a stateroom by 30 days prior to sailing (October 3, 2024), you earn a $1,000 future Sixthman event credit and have two options:

  • You can notify us to process your full refund plus receive a $1,000 future Sixthman event credit (valid for 3 years). Any purchased travel protection would be included in the refund.
  • If you are willing to accept a stateroom less than 30 days prior to the festival, we can continue to try to find a stateroom for you. When we place you in a stateroom, your $1,000 future Sixthman event credit will be automatically applied to your booking. If we are unable to place you in a stateroom before sailing we will automatically process your full refund and issue your $1,000 future Sixthman event credit (valid for 3 years).

Additionally, anyone we aren't able to assign to a stateroom will be prioritized for next year's  pre-sale (registration required) and will be assigned a booking time after guests who sail  but before prior year alumni (if any) and before new guests.

Please note: we recommend booking refundable travel (airfare, hotels, etc.) in the event you are unable to sail - Sixthman does not provide refunds for external purchases.

What options are available to book in this process and what is the cost associated?

Pending availability, you may book a First Available Interior, First Available Oceanview or First Available Balcony stateroom.

How do you determine how many First Available Staterooms to sell?

We utilize historical cancellation data from all our festivals to predict how many staterooms will become available prior to sailing. Life happens and sometimes our guests have to cancel. Plus, while we never intentionally hold staterooms back to release later, sometimes we need fewer staterooms for production/talent/staff than originally planned, allowing us to offer those to guests.

What will my final cost be for a First Available Stateroom?

First Available Staterooms are set to the maximum price for a room of that stateroom type. You will be placed in the first available stateroom that matches the category you booked. Should your assigned stateroom be priced lower than the First Available price, you will be refunded the difference. You will ultimately only pay the price of the stateroom you are assigned.

When will I know my stateroom number?

You will be assigned to a specific stateroom by 30 days prior to the festival’s embarkation date (October 3, 2024) or be eligible for a $1,000 future Sixthman event credit.

When will I receive my Norwegian reservation number?

All guests receive reservation numbers approximately 4-6 weeks prior to the festival’s embarkation date. Should you be placed into a specific stateroom after this time frame, you can anticipate receiving your reservation number approximately 10 days after your stateroom is assigned.

What is the cancellation policy for First Available Staterooms? What if I change my mind and want to remove myself from my first available reservation?

All reservations, including First Available reservations, are non-refundable. Please review our cancellation policy . If you are unsure about your ability to attend the festival, we recommend you delay booking a first available stateroom until you are certain you can attend.

What happens with the cost of my non-refundable travel if I am not placed in a stateroom prior to sailing?

Sixthman does not provide refunds for external purchases, therefore we recommend you book refundable travel. Please read our “What is the First Available guarantee” FAQ for further details.

How do payments work for my reservation?

All standard payment options will be available to First Available Staterooms bookings. Review our payment options here .

How long is my $1,000 Sixthman Future Event Credit valid?

Your Sixthman Future Event Credit will expire three years from the date of issue.

I am interested in a Suite. Why is this not a First Available option?

If any Suites become available, they will be offered to booked guests through our desired upgrade list. Once you are booked in a stateroom, you may contact us to join the desired upgrade list to be notified if a Suite becomes available. This means you may book a First Available Balcony stateroom and request to be on the desired upgrade list; in this case you may be automatically placed in a Balcony stateroom or offered a Suite (which, if you decline, will keep you in line for a Balcony stateroom assignment).

Do you fulfill First Available Staterooms before you accommodate the desired upgrade list?

First Available Staterooms are true stateroom bookings and as such are prioritized over the desired upgrade list. Once all First Available Staterooms have been placed, we will accommodate as many people from the Desired Upgrade List as possible. Note that Club Balcony Suites and Suites are not offered in First Available so any staterooms openings for those types are offered out via the Desired Upgrade List before being released for sale.

Once I book a First Available stateroom do I get approval over which room I am placed into?

No. You will be automatically assigned into the next available stateroom that matches the room type that you purchased.

Am I able to transfer to another festival after booking my First Available reservation?

Should you wish to transfer your reservation to another festival, you would follow the standard transfer guidelines in place for the festival you are currently booked on.

What are the prices of EDSea?

You can find pricing and availability for EDSea here .

What is the payment schedule?

Enroll in Automatic Monthly Billing and customize your own payment schedule! See the details .

If you decide not to do automatic monthly billing, this minimum payment plan allows guests to make installment payments on their cruise over time. The date that you place your reservation will dictate your minimum deposit amount, after which you would be required to make any future payments according to the schedule. To make a payment on an existing reservation, please sign in to your account .

Payment Schedule

  • Another 25% is due on February 4th, 2024
  • Another 25% is due on May 4th, 2024
  • Remaining 100% is due on August 4th, 2024

Single occupancy staterooms require twice the above amounts. Past due payments are subject to a $35 late fee. See the Terms and Conditions for full details.

What if I want to book a single occupancy stateroom?

Headliners traveling by themselves in their own stateroom are responsible for the double-occupancy rate of the stateroom. Single occupancy staterooms will be charged Taxes and Fees for only one Headliner, and will receive a discount of $199.00 off the second cruise fare.

You also have the option of participating in the Independent Traveler Program (ITP). Read the FAQ on the ITP here .

How do I make a payment?

To make a payment, booked Headliners can sign in to their Sixthman account and click 'Make a Payment' next to their reservation. Any named Headliner on a reservation can submit an online payment.

Payments can also be made via phone by calling Sixthman at 877-379-9184.

How do I purchase cruise or travel protection?

You may purchase travel protection while placing your reservation online or by calling Sixthman Guest Services at 1-877-379-9184 after your reservation has been placed. Insurance is sold per person and based of the amount you'd like covered (minimum coverage is the per person cost of the cabin plus all taxes and fees). You may also call Sixthman to request additional coverage for other non-cruise travel, such as airfare and deposits on ground or hotel.

For a complete list of rates and coverage details please visit www.sixthman.net/protection . Please note that the CFAR benefit (CANCEL FOR ANY REASON) is in addition to the standard policy and allows a refund of up to 50% of the non-refundable Trip Cost for reservations that are canceled without a covered reason up until 48 hours prior to sailing. This benefit must be purchased within 21 days of trip purchase.

Can each roommate make their own payments?

The Lead Guest on the reservation is responsible for making sure minimum payments are met. However, each Seasider can sign in (or call in) individually to make their own payment for their share of the cabin with their own credit card information. When making the reservation, the Lead Guest can pay for only their portion of the minimum initial deposit, but the reservation must be brought current within 72 hours. Within this time frame, other Headliners can make their initial payments. The Lead Guest is responsible for making sure the reservation is current within 72 hours or will risk cancellation.

Can I make changes to my booking?

Only Lead Guests can request to change or remove existing guests, or to upgrade to a higher priced category. Downgrading your cabin to a cabin of lesser value is not allowed. The Lead Guest must request these changes by phone or email.

Because the Lead Guest owns the reservation, any changes to this guest are subject to a Lead Guest change fee of $299.   No lead guest changes or transfers are permitted during the pre-sale or after August 4, 2024.  Lead Guest changes are also not permitted after an event sells out, except to guests who were named in the reservation prior to the sell-out. Permitted changes incur a $299 Lead Guest change fee.

ALL names must be received by August 4, 2024.  Each reservation is allowed one free name change prior to August 4, 2024.  Additional changes prior to that date are subject to a $50 administrative fee per change.

Any changes, including adding unnamed Seasiders made after August 4, 2024, but more than one week before the cruise are $75 per change. Any changes, including adding unnamed Headliners made within a week of the cruise are $100 per change.

How do I add a guest to my stateroom?

If you're the lead guest with an existing reservation you can add a guest online. First, your guest needs a Sixthman username, and needs to give you permission to add them to your stateroom.

Provide your guest with your Sixthman username, and have them create a Sixthman profile here , or sign in to their existing profile. In the Guest Permissions section have them add you to their Approved Lead Guests list.

Once they're done, you can sign in to your profile and they'll appear in Your Authorized Guests list. Now, go to your current reservation and add them in the Personal Information section.

What if I miss a payment?

One week after missing a scheduled payment date, a late fee of $35 is added to the reservation.

Three weeks after missing a scheduled payment date, a final notice of impending cancellation is sent, and the reservation may be cancelled by Sixthman within 7 days.

If you are unable to make a payment as scheduled, please contact Sixthman PRIOR to the payment due date.  In extreme circumstances, alternate payment schedules may be arranged.  Alternate payment schedules are solely at the discretion of Sixthman.  Defaulting on alternate payment arrangements will result in immediate cancellation of your reservation.

What is the Cruise Norwegian app?

Cruise Norwegian is Norwegian Cruise Line's app where Headliners can access an array of information, pre-cruise and during the cruise.

Cruise Norwegian includes an industry first “Pre-Cruise” mode which allows you to pre-book your dining reservations & shore excursions, and view your vacation itinerary and summary, all before you ever step foot on a Norwegian ship. Once you get on board, all of your reservations, bookings, and favorites are seamlessly transferred to the ship, where you can use the communications feature to chat and message* with other Headliners on board, view your account and onboard purchases, and so much more! For more info, visit Norwegian's Mobile Apps page .

*App is free to download, but the Calling and Messaging Package has a nominal one-time fee for making unlimited onboard calls and messages during your cruise. Consult the app for exact pricing.

What is the Guest Conduct Policy?

We were founded upon the spirit of creating safe environments for people to come together on vacation with the goal that ALL feel Invited, Welcomed, Looked After, Appreciated, and most importantly, Respected. We will not tolerate any harassment or discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, body size, appearance, age or national origin. We stand against racism, hate and associated symbols and the display of such items, including but not limited to the confederate battle flag. If you feel like you’re being harassed or discriminated against, are the victim of nonconsensual touching, or otherwise feel unsafe, please report it to the nearest Sixthman or Norwegian Cruise Line staff member.

Our number one priority is to ensure the safety and security of our guests, artists and ship crew. For this to be achieved, it is imperative all guests have an understanding of the behavioral standards to uphold while on board.  The information contained within Norwegian Cruise Line’s Guest Conduct Policy (see below) serves to notify all guests of the expected conduct on this Sixthman festival at sea. Please become familiar with this information and then get ready for a vacation that aims to create memories that will last a lifetime!

LIVE LOUD.  Your friends at Sixthman.

Full Norwegian Cruise Line Guest Conduct Policy

SAFETY AND SECURITY

Safety and security are everyone’s responsibility. Should anyone become aware of unsafe or possibly illegal behavior during their cruise, they should immediately report this to the ship’s Security Staff or other ship management. This may be done through ship’s telephone system by dialing 911 or by seeking the assistance of a crew member.

GUEST CONDUCT

GUEST AND CREW INTERACTION Our crew members are friendly, outgoing and helpful, and they will do their very best to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible. Please do not misinterpret their friendliness. Crew members are prohibited from engaging in physical relationships with guests. Crew members are not permitted to socialize with guests beyond their professional duties, and are not permitted to be in guest staterooms, except for the performance of their shipboard duties. Guests are expected to respect these policies and are similarly prohibited from engaging in physical relationships with crew members. Guests are not permitted in any restricted or crew area of the ship, including crew staterooms and corridors.

VERBALLY ABUSIVE OR OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE Verbally abusive or offensive language directed toward anyone, to include guests, crew members, governmental officials, or others is not permitted.

INAPPROPRIATE OR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR Inappropriate or abusive behavior including uninvited physical contact, solicitation, harassment, vandalism, theft, violence, use of fake/false identification, underage drinking (see alcohol section below), providing alcohol to those under the allowed age (see alcohol section below), possession of illegal substances/items or any other illegal or offensive conduct is not permitted.

UNSAFE BEHAVIOR Sitting, standing, laying or climbing on, over or across any exterior or interior railings or other protective barriers, or tampering with ship’s equipment, facilities or systems designed for guest safety is not permitted. Guests may not enter or access any area that is restricted and/or for the use of crew members. Any other unsafe behavior, including failure to follow security instructions, is not permitted.

DISCOURTEOUS OR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR Pool, deck and theater chairs may not be reserved. Topless sunbathing is not permitted. Boom boxes or loud radios are not permitted. Roller blades, roller skates, skateboards, hoverboards, scooters, surfboards, bicycles, and similar items may not be utilized on-board; except for mobility aids related to special needs, as approved by the ship’s management.

SMOKING As the health and well-being of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance, Norwegian Cruise Line instituted changes to its smoking policy for all sailings after November 1, 2014 . The specific changes prohibit smoking on stateroom balconies and limit smoking in the casino to players. On Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, smoking on The Waterfront will be permitted on the starboard side, except by the outdoor dining areas. Public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you can do so in designated areas only. For more information on our smoking policy please go here.

CURFEWS Ship’s management reserves the right to enact and enforce curfews on an individual, group, or ship-wide basis, if in the sole judgment of the ship’s Captain, such steps become necessary to ensure guest or crew safety. Children under the age of 17 are not allowed unaccompanied by an adult after 1:00 am.

DISEMBARKING FROM A SHIP Parents or guardians must not permit any guest in their care under age 18 from leaving a ship in any port without responsible adult supervision.

PARENTAL AND GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITY For purposes of this Guest Conduct Policy, a minor is defined as anyone under the age of 18. A young adult is defined as anyone ages 18, 19 or 20. Parents and guardians are responsible for the behavior and appropriate supervision of their accompanying minor(s) and young adult(s) throughout their vacation. This obligation applies during transfers to and from ships, inside terminals, while onboard, at our ports of call, during shore excursions and at our private destinations. This responsibility applies at all times, regardless of whether the parents and guardians are physically in the company of their minor(s) and young adult(s).

ALCOHOL Norwegian Cruise Line guests are expected to be responsible for their actions at all times, including during transfers to and from ships, inside terminals, while onboard, at our ports of call, during shore excursions and at our private destinations. Consuming alcohol to excess impairs one’s judgment and reduces one’s ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. Guests who choose to consume alcohol must do so responsibly. The ship’s staff may refuse to serve alcoholic beverages to any guest who does not consume alcohol responsibly. Ship’s personnel may request verification of a guest’s age to verify they are of age to consume alcohol pursuant to this policy. Any guest that violates this alcohol policy, will be considered for disciplinary action pursuant to the “Consequences Section” of this Guest Conduct Policy, and may lose their privileges to use the disco or other areas or facilities of the ship or maybe required to disembark the vessel.

Guests are not permitted to bring alcoholic (except wine & a corkage fee will be charged) beverages onboard and Security reserves the right to inspect containers (water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, luggage, etc.) at any time. Alcoholic beverages that are purchased from onboard shops or in ports-of-call (which must be presented to security upon re-boarding), will be held until the last night of the cruise. The Freestyle Daily will list the location and time for pick up. Guests who are under the permitted drinking age will not have alcohol returned to them.

The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on Norwegian Cruise Line ships is 21. Guests who are 18 - 20 years of age can purchase and consume beer or wine when the ship is in international waters (3 miles out of US territorial waters). The age modification does not apply for Alaska and Hawaii sailings. The parent or legal guardian must be onboard the sailing with the young adult and present themselves at the Front Desk so they can sign the form allowing the consumption of beer and wine only. A notarized Parent Consent Form or any other document allowing for temporary guardianship for the purposes of the sailing only will not be accepted.

For purposes of complying with the minimum drinking age requirements, a guest’s age is established upon embarkation (beginning of the cruise). If a guest celebrates their birthday during the cruise, and thereby becomes of age to consume alcohol, the guest may thereafter ask the Guest Services Manager to modify ship’s records to permit their consumption of alcohol during the remainder of the cruise. The guest will be required to appear at Guest Services to present a government issued form of identification to permit verification of their age.

On cruises embarking in a country where the legal drinking age is lower than 21 and where a young adult (age 18, 19 or 20) is not traveling with a parent or legal guardian, they will generally not be permitted to consume alcohol. There may be exceptions made to this restriction in areas of the world where local laws require and Norwegian Cruise Line concurs. Details on such exceptions can be obtained from the Guest Services Desk. No guest under age 18 may possess or consume alcohol at any time, while onboard or at our private destinations. No guest under age 21 may possess or consume alcohol at our private destinations. Any guest who goes ashore and consumes alcohol (whether under the supervision of a parent/guardian or not) is responsible for ensuring they consume responsibly and retain their ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations when they return to the ship. Parents/guardians are reminded they are responsible for the actions of their child/young adult at all times while on a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise.

Guests who violate any alcohol policy, including but not limited to underage drinking; providing alcohol to minors or young adults; possessing, concealing or attempting to conceal alcoholic items in their luggage, when boarding, or while on board; engaging in alcohol drinking games; or failing to consume alcohol responsibly, will be considered for discipline under the provisions of this policy.

PROHIBITED ITEMS

For the most up-to-date list, please check Norwegian's website .

SYMBOLS OF HATE

We stand against racism, hate and associated symbols and the display of such items, including but not limited to the confederate battle flag.

DRONES (Game Flying Device) Guests are not permitted to bring drones on board for safety of other guests, as well as the welfare of the vessel.

ITEMS WITH HEATING ELEMENTS OR OPEN FLAMES Certain items that generate heat or produce an open flame are not permitted onboard. This includes clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. Curling irons and hair dryers are allowed and may require a converter.

DRUGS OR OTHER ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES No illegal drugs or other illegal substances including but not limited to medical marijuana are allowed onboard or may be utilized during a Norwegian Cruise Line vacation, including during transfers to and from ships, inside terminals, during shore excursions or at our private island. Illegal drugs or substances will be confiscated and appropriate action taken, which may include removal from the ship and involvement of appropriate authorities. In addition, foreign governments at Norwegian Cruise Line ports of call have strict laws that address drug possession. Guests found in violation of such laws are subject to arrest and prosecution by the foreign jurisdiction (and perhaps United States or other authorities as well) and may be prevented from re-boarding the ship.

WEAPONS, EXPLOSIVES OR OTHER DANGEROUS ITEMS No weapon, explosive, or other item that presents a risk of harm to persons or property, are permitted onboard. They will be taken by ship’s Security and appropriate action taken. Guests are not allowed to bring their own scuba gears onboard such as oxygen tanks, diving knives, spears, etc.

HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT

HAND WASHING Guests are strongly encouraged to wash their hands with soap and hot water after using the restroom and before eating or handling food. Medical experts say this is one of the best ways to prevent illnesses from starting or spreading.

ILLNESSES AND ISOLATION OF GUESTS Norwegian Cruise Line follows practices and maintains policies that seek to prevent illnesses from affecting our guests. One of the best ways to prevent the spread of contagious illnesses like gastrointestinal viruses, colds and flu is to wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and hot water after using the restroom and again before eating anything. In the event you experience symptoms that indicate a gastrointestinal illness, such as diarrhea or vomiting, or know of someone experiencing these symptoms, you must advise the medical staff immediately. In addition, some gastrointestinal illnesses remain contagious up to 72 hours or more after symptoms subside; therefore, if you or someone you know experienced such an illness just prior to your cruise, you must immediately notify the ship’s medical staff. This will permit the crew to take steps to reduce the chance that your illness will spread to others on the ship. Failure to immediately report a contagious illness to the ship’s medical staff, or to accurately describe its onset, greatly increases the likelihood the illness will spread to others and is a violation of this Guest Conduct Policy. In the event of a contagious illness, the ship’s crew will take steps to curtail its spread to other guests, including if necessary, steps set forth in the Consequences Section on next page.

CONSEQUENCES

FAILURE TO ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS POLICY MAY RESULT IN:

  • Intervention by Security, other management personnel or law enforcement
  • Removal of certain onboard privileges, which may include being detained, quarantined or confinement
  • Confiscation of illegal/contraband/prohibited items (may be turned over to law enforcement authorities) and used for prosecution
  • Denial of boarding on the current or any future Norwegian Cruise Line cruise vacation
  • Reporting of incidents to government and law enforcement authorities for follow-on legal action
  • Removal from ship at the next port-of-call. Guests removed from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship pursuant to this policy, are responsible. Documentation requirements for re-entry into the guest’s home country are also the responsibility of the guest.

What is included in Club Balcony Suite Services?

Club Balcony Suites include:

  • Food & Beverage amenities delivered 2x per sailing
  • Laundry bag or pressing service 1x per sailing

What is the smoking policy on Norwegian Joy?

Smoking is prohibited indoors, in staterooms and balconies, directly in front of the pool deck stage (the lawn) as well as outdoor dining areas, and other various outdoor areas on the ship. This includes regular cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars or pipes.

- Casino Smoking Room (Deck 7 Aft) - Outside of the Cavern Club (Deck 8 MID - Port Side) - Cigar Lounge (Deck 8 FWD) (Cigars Only)   - Pool Deck (Kenetic Ocean) (Decks 16 & 17 MID - Port Side) - Spice H20 (Deck 17 AFT - Starboard Side)

Headliners are not permitted to smoke cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars or pipes in their staterooms or on their balconies.  Smoking inside your stateroom or on your balcony will result in a $250 USD cleaning charge added to your onboard account. If cigarette burns on furniture, linens, towels or carpeting are detected; Headliners will be advised and charged for the damages.

Electronic cigarettes cannot be used in public areas where there is a No Smoking policy in force; simply because these cigarettes look so realistic and therefore other Headliners' perception is that we are not enforcing the No Smoking rule.

How can I stay up to date with what's happening on board during the festival?

Prior to sailing, you'll be able to see the schedule here . There are several resources on Norwegian Joy to help you navigate your festival experience. Once we set sail, we may encounter some changes due to weather or logistical variations. Therefore the following onboard resources will your best source for staying up to date.

The #1 best way to stay in the loop is to utilize sixthman.net/today . There you can always find the MOST up-to-date information (such as schedule and onboard announcements). Simply connect to the ship's wifi  (NCL_Internet_Joy) once on board. You do not need to purchase an internet package for the site to work.

Other sources of info include: TV Screens, TVs with touch screens, daily announcements, onboard newsletter delivered to your stateroom, and the Cruise Norwegian app.

You may submit questions regarding the event via Sixthman.net/ask during your cruise. The Sixthman team will reply in a prompt manner.

There is a service wheel outside of your stateroom door, which can be turned to display “Welcome”, “Make Up Cabin”, “Turn Down Cabin” and “Do Not Disturb”. This will help you communicate with your cabin steward as well as allow for onboard deliveries. When the service wheel is set to “Do Not Disturb” you may miss a delivery.

Where can I find out more about accommodations for guests with special needs?

EDSea is a fully accessible event, and we are dedicated to continually improving our efforts to ensure you have access to all the event amenities. We welcome and encourage all feedback and suggestions from our patrons. Whether you have traveled around the world and back or this is your first adventure away from your hometown, we understand that EDSea is unique and that you may have some questions! For any accessibility-related questions please contact us or check out  Norwegian’s Guest Access Desk resources that are available to you now.

Prior to booking, check out our ship’s accessibility details . To discuss any questions you may have regarding this information or your specific needs, you may contact the Sixthman Guest Services team prior to booking, and remember to discuss your needs with the reservationist at the time of booking.

Your information and requirements will be sent to Norwegian’s Access Desk approximately 60 days prior to sailing. If your needs require more advanced notice, the Sixthman team will notify Norwegian accordingly. Approximately 4-6 weeks before sailing, via email, you will receive your Norwegian reservation number and additional information regarding how you may contact the Access Desk directly for any additional questions you have before embarkation.

What accommodations are available for guests with medical food allergies and diabetes?

At time of booking, please discuss your needs with the Sixthman Guest Services team by contacting us . We can arrange to have no sugar, low sodium meals, and gluten free items for guests with those specific medical dietary restrictions upon request. Refrigerators are available in all staterooms for storing insulin.

Are wheelchairs, scooters or mobility assistive devices available for boarding and once on the ship?

Once on board, wheelchairs are available for Headliners use ONLY in the event of a medical emergency. However, if you require mobility assistance for embarkation and/or debarkation, these items are available upon request when you arrive at the port. If you require the use of a mobility assistive device throughout your vacation, we ask that you travel with your own, or rent one from a third party company that works with the cruise line such as Scootaround . You may rent equipment once you receive your Norwegian reservation number 4-6 weeks prior to sailing.

Scootaround Phone: (toll-free) 1-888-441-7575 scootaround.com

If you have any food allergy or a dietary requirement that requires Kosher meals or gluten free food products, please advise Sixthman at the time of booking. Obtaining the product for many of these requests requires 45-days notice prior to sailing, and we want to ensure that Norwegian is able to fulfill your request. Norwegian cannot guarantee Kosher meal or gluten free food product requests made within 45 days of sail date.

For the protection of all of our guests, it is not permissible to bring aboard any food items that would require preparation by the ship’s staff, or food items that would require cold storage in Norwegian's kitchen facilities.

Can vegan diets be accommodated?

The ship offers vegetarian options, but not specifically vegan options in the main dining rooms. You will be able to navigate your dietary needs by speaking with the restaurant manager on board (during the first day of sailing) in order to discuss what dishes may be prepared for you. The buffets, of course, will contain many fresh food items that are vegan (vegetables, fruits, beans), but for any cooked dishes, you will need to inquire if they had been prepared with butter vs. oil, etc. You may also bring with you pre-packaged snack items to supplement your dietary needs, but no fresh food items, as they are prohibited by US Customs.

Are accommodations available for guests who are deaf or have low hearing?

Yes. Among other accommodations, items such as portable kits in your stateroom that include a visual-tactile alert system, assistive listening devices, TTY phones, and closed-captioned televisions are available upon request. Headliners may also request to arrange an embarkation day meeting with a staff member who will see to your accessibility needs during the cruise and/or individual or group emergency drills for all deaf or low hearing Headliners.

Sign language interpreting services may be provided for deaf guests upon request. A request for sign language interpreting should be made at the time of booking, but no later than 90 days prior to sailing. Requests are subject to a number of considerations, including but not limited to, the availability of interpreters and cabin space. A request for an interpreter with less than 90 days’ notice may still be granted but cannot be guaranteed.

Please visit Norwegian Cruise Line’s Accessibility Assistance page for complete details.

Are accommodations available for guests who are blind or have low vision?

Yes. Braille/tactile signage is found throughout the ship. By request, an embarkation day meeting with a staff member who will see to your accessibility needs during the cruise and/or vessel orientation tour is available for blind or low vision guests. Service animals are allowed on board but must be arranged through the Access Desk prior to the cruise.

Are service dogs permitted to travel?

Yes. Norwegian Cruise Line accepts service dogs that are trained to perform a specific task. A service dog may be needed for many different conditions, which would be acceptable under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. In accordance with the ADA, Norwegian Cruise Line does NOT accept “Emotional Support” dogs as service dogs; they CANNOT sail.

Please visit Norwegian Cruise Line’s Accessibility Assistance page for complete details about what travel documentation is required for service animals to travel.

What if I encounter the need for medical attention during my trip?

Whether you are admitted to the ship’s medical center or a medical facility in a foreign port, your medical expenses will be your out-of-pocket responsibility. Most standard health insurance policies do not cover treatment outside of their country of issue. Please check with your insurance provider for more information.

To ensure that you have assistance with medical expenses during your trip, we strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance . Sixthman offers a leading travel insurance plan through our partnership with Travel Insured International. The standard policy includes Emergency Medical Protection of up to $25,000 USD reimbursement for care and treatment and up to $50,000 USD reimbursement for emergency medical evacuation. To discuss questions and pricing for insurance coverage, please contact Sixthman Guest Services .

Are totems permitted on the ship?

To keep our guests, crew, and staff safe while sailing, totems and the like will not be permitted on the ship . Weather, wind, and other outdoor conditions are not predictable enough for us to guarantee they can be used safely. Additionally, all items brought on the ship must fit within standard security scanners.

Since you have been very good in communicating intent not to go on the cruise this is what I woud do. Send the company a very nice letter stating everything you have done with plenty of time for them to return your deposit. Give them a date and reply by registered mail as to when you will take action to contact your State Insurance Commision. If this company does not reply go ahead and contact your State Insurance Commision. It sounds like to me this company does not need to be in the insurance business in your State. Good luck. Tim

What is cruise travel insurance?

What does cruise travel insurance cover typically, how much is travel insurance for a cruise, do i need it if i have other travel protections, is cruise travel insurance worth it.

Cruise travel insurance covers the cruise itself, not related travel.

It's usually purchased through the cruise operator, typically before booking.

Check to make sure your credit card doesn't offer similar insurance before buying cruise insurance.

Cruising is one of America's favorite travel experiences. According to a 2021 report from Cruise Lines International Association, an industry trade association, 82% of cruisers will cruise again. As well, 62% of non-cruisers are open to the idea.

And why not? Cruises often give travelers the chance to experience multiple destinations plus enjoy onboard entertainment, activities and dining for a set, all-inclusive price . Cruises simplify budgeting in a year when travel prices have been hard hit by inflation .

But what happens if something goes wrong with your ship, or you can’t make it onboard because of health concerns? Cruise travel insurance might be the answer. It protects your payment and covers you against illness or injury.

Before you pay for a cruise travel insurance policy, here's a look at what it is, how it works and if it's worth it.

Cruise travel insurance is add-on insurance coverage that — just like travel insurance — will reimburse you for delays, interruptions, medical situations or other problems during the cruise.

Depending on which cruise line you're traveling with, you might be able to buy a travel insurance policy when booking your trip (through the cruise line directly) or at a later date (either through the cruise line or separately from a third party).

Protecting travel costs can be a smart money move. A September 2022 survey of 737 past cruisers by InsureMyTrip found that the average trip cost for an insured cruise vacation so far this year is $6,367, an increase of nearly 15% from before the pandemic.

Can you buy travel insurance after booking a cruise? It depends. Some cruise lines require the purchase of a travel insurance policy before the final payment date when charges become nonrefundable. Others require the purchase of coverage a certain number of days before departure. Read the fine print to find out the deadline to purchase and the specifics of its coverage.

Circumstances covered by cruise travel insurance vary by policy and by issuer. Many cruise lines partner with an insurance company to underwrite its policy benefits.

Some common benefits available as part of travel insurance from a cruise line include:

Trip cancellation and interruption . If you cancel your trip or unexpectedly cut it short for an eligible reason, such as severe weather or illness, you'll get back some or all of the upfront costs, depending on the policy.

Cancel For Any Reason . This coverage tends to be more flexible, forgiving and expensive at time of purchase. Policyholders can cancel for any reason not listed in the policy and still receive a portion of their trip cost back, either as cash or as a future cruise credit (assuming they meet other eligibility requirements).

Trip delay . Cruise delay insurance protection protects expenses if your trip is delayed beyond a set number of hours.

Baggage protection . This insures your luggage if it is lost, stolen, damaged or delayed, and gives money to buy necessary items until bags are recovered.

Medical coverage . If you get sick or injured during the trip, the policy covers treatment and related expenses up to a limit.

Emergency evacuation . When emergency evacuation is necessary, the policy covers the transport cost up to a limit.

COVID coverage . If your trip is canceled or interrupted due to COVID, the policy covers the unused prepaid expenses, medical treatment and emergency evacuation, up to policy limits.

When comparing policies, choose a policy that includes all of the benefits, protections and coverage limits that are important to you. While you may be tempted to choose the lowest-priced option, that policy may not have the coverage you need.

We examined cruise insurance prices for a seven-day trip in February 2023 from the U.S. to Mexico. The example traveler was 35 years old, from Georgia, and planned to spend $2,500 on the trip, including airfare.

The average price of each company’s most basic coverage plan was $124. These policies didn't include optional add-ons, such as Cancel for Any Reason coverage or coverage for pre-existing medical conditions .

Separately, we looked at five different cruise insurance add-ons for a similar trip. With this option, the average cost of basic coverage was cheaper than a standalone policy at $111.20. Keep in mind that cruise insurance policies offered by cruise lines typically cover the cruise portion of the trip only, but do include some Cancel For Any Reason coverage.

If you already have a standalone travel insurance policy or a credit card with travel protections, you may wonder if you need to purchase a cruise travel insurance policy.

Credit card travel insurance

Many travel credit cards include travel protections such as trip cancellation, interruption, delayed or lost luggage reimbursement, and emergency evacuation benefits. Before buying a cruise travel policy, compare the coverage benefits and limits to determine if you already have coverage with a credit card.

One benefit that cruise travel insurance policies offer that credit cards don't is the ability to cancel for any reason. Although you may not get back 100% of the cruise price, these policies allow you to cancel for any reason and get a portion of the price back as a credit toward a future trip. If the policy is priced low enough, it may be worth buying the insurance offered through your cruise line for that benefit alone.

Travel insurance policy

Standalone travel insurance policies can be purchased to cover one person or a family for a specific trip or multiple trips within a period of time. These policies are available at a variety of price points to meet a traveler's budget. When comparing policy options, you can balance price versus coverage options.

If you're traveling multiple times within a short period of time, it may be more economical to buy a more comprehensive travel insurance policy instead of separate policies for each trip.

Cruise travel insurance can be worth it to address your concerns about traveling and protect your investments. These policies offer numerous protections that will cover your expenses in case your trip is canceled, interrupted or delayed, or if you get sick during the trip.

Before buying this coverage, compare your options against your credit card benefits. You might also shop for general travel insurance policies to see if you can get a better deal than what’s offered through your cruise line.

If you’re not covered by your credit card, cruise travel insurance can be worth the added cost. It will give you peace of mind before setting sail, when signing up for that adventurous land excursion and when clicking "Book" for an expensive vacation in the COVID travel landscape.

Understanding travel insurance for seniors

Before diving into the specifics, it's essential to understand what travel insurance is and why it's particularly important for senior travelers. The best travel insurance offers financial protection against unexpected events affecting your trip, such as trip cancellations, medical emergencies, or lost luggage.

Types of coverage

  • Medical Coverage: Ensures your medical expenses are covered in case of illness or injury.
  • Trip Cancellation/Interruption Coverage: Provides reimbursement if your trip is canceled or cut short due to unforeseen events.
  • Baggage Coverage: Covers loss, damage, or theft of personal items during your trip.

Benefits of travel insurance for seniors

  • Peace of Mind: Knowing you're covered in case of emergencies can make your travel stress-free.
  • Financial Protection: Shields you from potentially overwhelming medical costs and trip cancellations fees.
  • Assistance Services: Many plans offer 24/7 assistance services, providing help whenever and wherever you need it.

Making the most of your plan

After choosing a plan, it's crucial to understand your policy fully and know what services are available to you in case of an emergency.

Understanding your policy

  • Read the fine print and understand the claims process to avoid surprises.

Emergency assistance services

  • Familiarize yourself with the emergency assistance services offered by your plan and keep all necessary contact information handy.

How to pick senior travel insurance

It's wise to compare several different travel insurance policies for the best coverage and pricing, as premiums vary widely between insurers and depend on factors like your age and travel destination.

That said, some of the more essential coverages to look for if you're a senior citizen include:

  • Travel medical coverage - This coverage will pay for your medical bills outside the US.
  • Medical evacuation coverage - If you're injured or become sick while traveling, this coverage will transport you to the nearest hospital or even back home if your condition necessitates it.
  • Preexisting conditions - Coverage for known health conditions. You'll need to purchase travel insurance within a certain time period from when you book your trip to qualify for a preexisting condition waiver .
  • Cancel for any reason (CFAR) - The name says it all! It'll cost extra and you'll need to purchase insurance early, but it's the most comprehensive trip cancellation coverage you can get. Note that CFAR insurance usually only covers up to 75% of your trip fees.
  • Trip cancellation insurance - This coverage provides reimbursement for your prepaid and nonrefundable costs if you cannot make your trip due to an unforeseen event.
  • Baggage delay insurance - This coverage will reimburse you for essentials like toiletries and clothes if your bags are delayed.
  • Lost luggage insurance - This coverage will reimburse you up to a specified amount if your bags get lost en route.

Of these, the most critical to note are whether or not your policy covers preexisting conditions and the limits for travel medical insurance and emergency medical evacuation.

Some insurance companies offer a waiver that will cover preexisting conditions. You'll have to follow the requirements for adding a waiver to your policy, like insuring the entire cost of your trip. Or purchase the policy within a specific time after making your first trip deposit payments.

You'll also want to find a policy with high maximum limits for travel medical and emergency medical evacuation coverage. These types of expenses can be substantial, so you want to have appropriate coverage.

When comparing senior travel insurance options, we looked at the following factors to evaluate each travel insurance provider:

  • Coverage limits: We looked at each travel insurance company's coverage amounts for benefits like medical emergencies and trip cancellation.
  • Flexibility: We looked at how customizable a policy is, so you can choose what your travel insurance policy covers .
  • Coverage for preexisting conditions: Preexisting conditions are one of the more critical factors for travel insurance for senior citizens, so we looked at travel insurance companies that offer the best coverage for preexisting conditions.
  • Price: We compared travel insurance providers offering reasonable basic and comprehensive coverage rates.
  • Benefits geared towards seniors: We compared travel insurance companies that offer solid coverage for senior citizens, like medical evacuation, COVID-19 coverage, and trip cancellation.

You can read more about our insurance rating methodology here.

Seniors should look for travel insurance policies that offer comprehensive medical coverage, including for preexisting conditions and emergency medical evacuation. They should also consider policies with higher coverage limits to ensure adequate protection. Additionally, seniors should seek travel insurance plans that provide 24/7 assistance services, as well as coverage for trip cancellations, interruptions, and baggage protection.

The cost of senior travel insurance coverage can vary depending on your age, overall health, state of residence, travel destination, and length of your trip. However, assuming all other factors are the same, you'll pay more for travel insurance at 70 than at 30.

All travel insurance companies, except World Nomads, included in this guide offer coverage for pre-existing medical conditions as long as you buy your policy within the qualifying period from when you placed your trip deposit.

Allianz is the best travel insurance for seniors due to its wide array of medical coverages and emergency medical transport. Allianz also offers multi-trip insurance policies , which could make sense for seniors who travel frequently.

In some instances, travel insurance companies will have age eligibility restrictions, often only insuring people 80 years old and younger.

Is travel insurance worth it?

April 30, 2024 | 2 min read

Planning a trip and wondering if you need a travel insurance policy? Keep reading to learn more about travel insurance to decide whether it’s right for you.

Key takeaways

  • Travel insurance can provide financial protection if things go wrong before or during a trip.
  • You might get travel insurance to cover potential losses from trip cancellations or delays, lost baggage or medical issues.
  • Factoring in details specific to your trip and balancing with existing coverage might help you decide whether travel insurance is right for you.

What does travel insurance do?

Travel insurance is a type of specialized protection that might help protect against financial losses from airline delays, medical issues or other unexpected occurrences. Some travel insurance plans focus on specific things, like lost baggage or health care. Others offer a wide range of benefits under a single plan. It’s a good idea to make sure you understand the terms and conditions, because coverage varies.

When might travel insurance be beneficial?

Some of the situations where it can help to have travel insurance include:

Interruptions and cancellations

Trip delay insurance covers food and lodging expenses if you experience an airline delay. Trip cancellation insurance can reimburse your prepaid costs if an illness forces you to cancel entirely.

Baggage issues

Baggage loss coverage can reimburse you if your luggage is lost, stolen, damaged or delayed.

Medical emergencies

Travel health or medical insurance can cover everything from medication to emergency medical evacuation if you become sick or injured when traveling abroad .

When might travel insurance be unnecessary?

There’s no right or wrong time for travel insurance. It depends on your circumstances. But when deciding whether travel insurance is worth it, you can consider things like:

  • Type and length of trip: If the trip’s refundable, you might not need extra protection. And a short or cheap trip might not be worth the cost of coverage.
  • Your existing coverage: Check existing policies and agreements. If you have coverage through your health insurance provider, credit card issuer or card network, you may not need more.

Considering travel insurance in a nutshell

Travel insurance can offer peace of mind if anything goes wrong before or during a trip. But it may not always be worth it. If you’re considering travel insurance coverage, looking at your situation, your trip and the terms and conditions of your existing insurance policies could help you determine whether the benefits outweigh the costs.
