Oceania Marina Itineraries

Oceania marina review, review of oceania marina.

The 2011-built Oceania Marina cruise ship is one of the fleet's newest vessels , with sistership Riviera . Both liners were constructed by Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente shipyard (in Genoa Italy ) and designed by the Norwegian marine architecture company Y&S "Petter Yran and Bjorn Storbratten".

The vessel (IMO number 9438066) is currently Marshall Islands /France- flagged (MMSI 538003668) and registered in Majuro .

A modified version of this design is Oceania's new ALLURA-Class represented by the ships Vista (2023) and Allura (2025).

History - construction and ownership

Oceania Cruises is a US passenger shipping company and luxury travel brand owned by NCLH-Norwegian (shipowner), Between April 2007 and September 2014, the company (as part of "Prestige Cruise Holdings") was owned by Apollo Management LP - one of the world's largest private investment equity funds. Since September 2014, Oceania and the sister company RSSC-Regent are owned by NCLH - acquired at the total cost of USD 3 billion. Oceania ships offer luxury cruises with relatively shorter itineraries, as well as Around The World voyages up to 180 days in length.

Oceania Marina cruise ship

The 1260-passenger ship Marina debuted in January 2011 as Oceania's first newbuild . Shiny, large and chic, Marina marks a huge step forward for the upper-premium line.

Decks and Cabins

Oceania Marina staterooms (629 total in 17 grades/based on the sisterships' design) include 147 Suites, 444 Balcony, 20 Oceanview, 18 Interior. Most (94%) are the 240 ft2 / 22 m2 sized Balcony cabins. The largest passenger accommodations are the aft-facing Owners Suites (1335 ft2 / 124 m2 plus 665 ft2 / 62 m2 wraparound terrace).

The boat has 15 decks , of which 12 are passenger-accessible and 6 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Oceania Cruises Marina ship offers four reservations-only restaurants, plus a buffet restaurant and casual snack spots. Speciality restaurants come with no additional charge but require reservations. The most high-profile of all is Jacques, the first restaurant ever created, on land or sea, by celebrity chef Jacques Pepin. Jacques is designed with the feel of a French bistro and focuses on traditional French cuisine. Other speciality restaurants include the Polo Grill steakhouse and the Mediterranean Toscana - both carry-overs from the earlier ships of the line, and Red Ginger, which is an excellent pan-Asian spot.

Follows the complete list of Marina restaurants and food bars.

  • Red Ginger (feng shui Asia specialty restaurant with a 5-course “tasting” and a la carte menu)
  • Jacques (124-seat complimentary dinner restaurant, reservations-only; features French cuisine by chef Pepin)
  • Grand Dining Room (complimentary 340-seat restaurant for open seating Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner; offers French-inspired dishes, and menus change daily)
  • Waves Grill (casual dining fast-food bar; serves the pool deck area with made-to-order daily specialties and gelato ice cream)
  • Terrace Cafe & Bar (casual buffet restaurant, complimentary; open for breakfast and lunch; features indoor and outdoor sitting areas; the Terrace Bar serves as a small pizzeria as well; the Terrace Cafe transforms into “Tapas On The Terrace” at night serving traditional Mediterranean cuisine)
  • Culinary Center (for cooking classes and demos; hosts the “Gourmet Explorer Series” which consists of 20 new cooking classes; there is also "La Technique" - an exclusive cooking class focusing on the techniques of master chef Chef Jaques Pepin.
  • La Reserve (24-seat wine bar at surcharge; offers wine tastings and a 7-course dinner menu)
  • Toscana (96-seat Italian fine dining restaurant, dinner-only, reservations-only, complimentary; offers traditional Italian cuisine)
  • Polo Grill (96-seat Steakhouse restaurant, complimentary; reservations required)
  • Privee (a limited capacity private dining room, between Toscana and Polo, 10-seat, charge $1000 for the entire room; features Chef’s Table and 7-course gourmet menu)

In October 2015, Oceania announced its plan to combine the Toscana and Polo Grill specialty restaurants into a new venue - “Tuscan Steak”, with quality wood paneling decorated with platinum and silver. The gourmet dinner menu of the new restaurant includes items, such as “Bistecca alla Fiorentina”, “Maine Lobster & Shrimp Fra Diavol”, “Tuscan Porterhouse Steak”, and the signature pork chops of Oceania Cruises “Iberico de Bellota”. At the entrance, there is a wine cellar with a selection of fine wines.

During the refurbishment in 2024 (May) were introduced three new dining venues/options: Aquamar Kitchen, Ice Cream Bar (poolside) and Alfresco Pizzeria (at Waves Grill in the evenings).

Aquamar Kitchen is a wellness-themed dining venue (introduced on Oceania Vista in 2023). This signature restaurant is complimentary and without reservations. It offers wellness-inspired food and beverages including smoothies, fresh-pressed juices, mocktails (made with Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits), energy bowls, avocado toasts, salads, wraps, tuna tacos, chicken sandwiches, Oceania's "Impossible Burger".

The poolside Ice Cream Bar serves the gourmet Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream as well as milkshakes and smoothies.

Waves Grill in the evenings transforms into an alfresco trattoria/Pizzeria/casual restaurant serving Italian food including fresh-baked pizza (by the slice), burrata and gourmet desserts.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

Much of the inspiration for the layout of Marina came from such high-end establishments as Miami's Mondrian Hotel, the Palm Court at NYC's Plaza Hotel and Bouchon dining venue in Napa. Marina cruise ship is not a true luxury vessel; her cruises sell at a more moderate price point and are considerably less inclusive. Cruisers should bring out their wallets for a range of fares charged a la carte, from cocktails to enrichment programs and facilities.

Follows the complete list of Marina lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens and adults.

  • Marina Lounge (main showroom/theatre for live evening entertainment and themed dancing parties; hosts daily trivia quizzes, lectures and presentations)
  • The Casino (operates with USD bets; served by the Casino Bar)
  • Martinis (a piano bar serving a variety of Martinis)
  • Three Boutiques (duty-free perfumes, jewelry, Oceania-logo merchandise, clothes, gifts, convenience goods)
  • Upper Hall lounge area (with grand piano for live performances; served by the Martinis Bar)
  • Grand Bar (wine bar; hosts wine tastings; served by Baristas making complimentary illy beverages)

Oceania Marina ship is the first of the line's two newbuilt vessels. Her sister and fleet mate is  ms Riviera . On September 2, 2014, the NCL Norwegian company purchased the company "Prestige Cruise Holdings" (owner of Oceania and  RSSC-Regent Seven Seas ) for USD 3,025 billion, thus becoming the official owner of all vessels in both fleets.

The line's owner NCL Norwegian received the Government's permission to operate cruises to Cuba from the USA, with three Oceania ships - Marina (starting at the end of 2016), Regatta  (starting in 2017) and Insignia (Nov-Dec 2017). Oceania ships operated a variety of itineraries, including a circumnavigation of Cuba (with stops in ports  Cienfuegos  and  Havana ) and also visiting Cuba as part of some  Panama Canal transition cruises .

The Apollo Group company provides all Oceania ships with the entire onboard hotel product and services. This includes administration, food staff (preparation and serving), housekeeping staff, also the vessel's provisioning and crewing. Other cruise lines served by Apollo are  Thomson UK (Marella Cruises)  and  RSSC-Regent .

Oceania Marina refurbishments review

During the drydock refurbishment 2024 (May) were added two dining venues - Aquamar Kitchen (wellness-inspired, introduced with Oceania Vista in 2023) and the Pizzeria (alfresco restaurant serving Italian dishes including pizzas and burrata). The poolside ice cream parlor was expanded and now offers milkshakes and smoothies. During the drydocking were also renovated all Penthouse Suites, all cabin bathrooms and all public areas.

The ship's drydock refurbishment in May 2020 (by the OceaniaNEXT project) resulted in several deckplan changes (details to be announced soon). What is known so far is adding a new cabin category (Owner Suite) designed by Trevor R. Howells (Los Angeles-based interior design firm).

Owner Suites are 2-room cabins furnished with Ralph Lauren Home furniture. The color scheme is white-navy blue-camel-creme. Upholstery and fabrics are in melange (stripes and solids), with pops in silver-gold-metallic. The Suite's foyer features premium wood paneling and stone flooring (limestone, black cabochon). The in-cabin bar is mahogany and with a quartzite stone top.

The Suite's living room has floor-ceiling windows, Grimaldi-weave sail white fabrics, a self-playing piano (made from polished ebony-black hardwood), a sectional sofa (with navy blue cushions), mahogany lounge chair. The dining room has a Mayfair table and Barrett Medium Knurled chandelier (natural brass). The Master Bedroom has a King-size bed, Mayfair Bergere armchairs, and nickel-trimmed lighting.

The Suite's wraparound balcony is premium teak-floored and fitted with custom-made (by Ralph Lauren) outdoor lounge furniture.

Drydock 2024

The scheduled drydock in 2024 (April 30-May 18) will be conducted at Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz Spain .

The multi-million refurbishment project includes the complete renovation of all passenger staterooms.

All public spaces (hallways, stairs, bars/lounges and dining venues - Grand Dining Room, Polo Grill, Martinis, Horizons, The Library) will be renovated, receiving new carpeting, furnishings, fabrics, lighting fixtures, artworks, Tuscan marble as well as refreshed upholstery.

The Penthouse Suites will be redesigned and completely refurbished, to receive new custom-made furniture, wardrobes and cabinetry, carpets and upholstery, lighting, more power outlets and USB ports. Penthouse Suites' bathrooms will receive Italian marble throughout, more drawers and larger showers.

All top-tier staterooms (Oceania Suites and above) will be redesigned and revamped.

The ship's three existing restaurants will be renovated and three new dining venues/culinary options will be added.

The new Ice Cream Bar (poolside) serves the gourmet Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream as well as milkshakes and smoothies.

Waves Grill in the evenings transforms into an alfresco trattoria/casual restaurant serving Italian food including fresh-baked pizza by the slice and gourmet desserts.

The Polo Grill (steakhouse) will receive new carpeting, dining chairs, and window treatments.

Is there any Marina passenger who doesn’t wish—even for a second—to shackle himself to his stateroom on debarkation day? Perhaps only the smarty pants who booked their next cruise before this one ends. Otherwise, how can an epicurean cruiser (that’s Marina ’s crowd) not pine for another shot at the new wine list starring 80 highly coveted, hard-to-snag labels, including swoon-worthy Super Tuscans? You’ll long for one more brag-worthy chance to sip The Mascot, a label from Harlan family pedigree (think cult fave Harlan Estate); the Polo Grill’s deft sommelier knows exactly which prime steak pairs best. Despite eight compelling complimentary restaurants (Red Ginger’s signature lobster pad thai is still must-devour), Marina vibes far more than great meals. Work up a sweat storm playing pickleball on deck 16 or braving core conditioning in the gym. Melt into a marine detox wrap (I love the juniper and lemon scent) at Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center, then sink into the spa terrace’s bubbling hot tub. Get down and dirty in the artist loft by painting a Venetian mask and playing Impressionist. In the hands-on culinary center, learn to cure a fish or preserve a lemon. Come May 2024, Marina debuts a splashy redo. Fall in love again with revamped avocado toast—bravo to the taco-spiced shrimp topping—in the new wellness-driven Aquamar kitchen. Where you lie your head hardly matters. An entry 291-square-foot stateroom starring a four-pillow, soft-sheet bed feels mighty spacious and sports Bulgari shampoo. That said, the top-to-bottom penthouse suites’ glam reno is beyond covetable, from the expanded bath to a boatload of enviable perks.

Oceania Marina Will Undergo Extensive Refurbishment in May 2024

Oceania Marina Will Undergo Extensive Refurbishment in May 2024

Oceania Cruises’ ship Marina will offer three new culinary venues and a refreshed look when she emerges from dry dock next spring.

Premium-plus cruise line Oceania Cruises has announced that its 1,250-passenger ship Marina will receive a comprehensive renovation in May 2024.

Three new dining options will be added to Oceania Marina as part of the refurbishment. The ship will offer Aquamar Kitchen , a new wellness-focused dining venue that debuted on Vista earlier this year. Marina will also offer a new casual alfresco trattoria serving Italian dishes including freshly-made pizzas and an expanded poolside ice cream parlor serving creative flavors along with milkshakes and smoothies.

Marina is the last of Oceania Cruises’ current fleet to be refurbished. The brand’s eighth ship, Allura , is set to debut in spring 2025.

“ Marina is a ship designed by foodies, built by foodies, for foodies,” said Frank A. Del Rio , president of Oceania Cruises. “We are renowned for serving The Finest Cuisine at Sea, and this is not just a tagline, it is a mantra which we have built the business around. Food is the foundation of what we do onboard each of our ships, and globally, in the destinations we visit.”

“This refresh of Marina will see her updated to offer three exciting new dining venues. We are especially thrilled to expand the Aquamar Kitchen concept to Marina , following its incredible reception from guests since it was unveiled aboard Vista in May,” Del Rio continued in a press release .

New dining options on Oceania Marina

Oceania Marina and her sister ship Riviera were the first cruise ships ever to feature an onboard cooking school and boast more galley space and more fresh food storage than any other Oceania ship.

According to the cruise line, Oceania Cruises has the highest percentage of culinary personnel devoted to the dining experience than any other cruise company. To ensure the quality of each dish, the line employs one chef for every ten guests, and half of the crew onboard is dedicated to cooking or serving food.

Aquamar Kitchen, a new Oceania Cruises signature restaurant with wellness-inspired meals, is one of the exciting culinary additions coming to Marina . Smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and energy bowls will be among the breakfast options. The lunch menu will offer healthy choices including avocado toast and internationally-influenced salads and wraps. Among the heartier alternatives are tacos made with yellowfin tuna, an Impossible Burger, and a crispy chicken sandwich.

To complement the wellness-inspired cuisine, the beverage menu at Aquamar will showcase a range of award-winning non-alcoholic wines, including Pierre Zero from France, along with an assortment of mocktails made with Lyre’s non-alcoholic spirits . Like all other onboard restaurants on Oceania, guests can dine for free at Aquamar Kitchen, which will be available for breakfast and lunch. Reservations will not be required.

In the evening, Waves Grill will transform into an alfresco trattoria featuring freshly-made pizzas, grilled Italian specialties, spicy dry-rubbed chicken wings, salads, rosemary focaccia with burrata, and a range of indulgent desserts.

For more sweet treats, an all-day ice cream parlor will be added to the pool deck. The venue will offer favorite flavors—including options from artisan ice cream maker Humphry Slocombe —plus milkshakes and smoothies.

After the refurbishment, Oceania Cruises’ signature pairing dinners from La Reserve —including the Odyssey Menu and the Dom Pérignon Experience—will now be featured in Privée , Marina ‘s exclusive private dining area.

Marina will feature refurbished suites and public spaces

Along with the three new dining venues, Marina ‘s public and private spaces will also receive a refresh to provide a bright new atmosphere. Upper Suites will feature a completely new design, with thoughtfully crafted additional features that the cruise line promises will make them appear lighter, brighter, and even more spacious.

Penthouse Suites will be fully renovated with new carpets and upholstery, modern lighting, custom-crafted furnishings, and small touches like more outlets and USB ports. Additionally, new closets and cupboards will increase the amount of storage space available to guests. Bathrooms will feature a streamlined redesign with signature Italian marble throughout, plenty of drawer space, and roomy oversized showers.

Public spaces including Martinis, Horizons, The Grand Dining Room, and Library will be updated with plush new carpets and refreshed upholstery. The classic steakhouse Polo Grill will boast new carpet, chic window treatments, and updated dining chair designs.

The refurbished Oceania Marina will debut on May 18, 2024, just in time for the summer cruise season.

We are booked on the Transatlantic Nov 7, 2025. We are wondering what people wear to dinner and what weather we should expect on the crossing. Last year we did Celebrity Beyond from Ft Lauderdale

Carrie Ann Karstunen

Wednesday 21st of February 2024

Hi Cheri, I've done several transatlantics in November and the weather can really vary! I looked up your cruise and I see that it's Barcelona to Miami - I just did a similar voyage on another line last year. Obviously day-to-day conditions can change (rain, a cold snap, strong winds etc.), but you'll be taking a southern route across the ocean so temps should be pleasantly warm during your crossing. I tend to pack layers that all coordinate in case of unexpectedly chilly weather. On this last crossing we had a few days where the wind was strong enough that they closed the open decks, so I made use of the jeans and cardigans I had packed!

As for what to wear to dinner, I'd recommend watching some of Gary Bembridge's YouTube videos. His channel is called Tips for Travellers and he has quite a few videos for Oceania first timers. Happy cruising!

The 12 Best All-Inclusive Cruises for 2024

When it comes to all-inclusive cruises, there are a few different options:

  • Luxury cruise lines: All-inclusive cruise rates are available on luxury lines like Regent Seven Seas and Silversea. While more expensive than traditional cruise rates , the fares cover nearly everything, including door-to-door transfers, luxurious suite accommodations, specialty dining , premium alcoholic beverages and excursions. Plus, you don't need to show your cruise card every time you order a latte or a pre-dinner cocktail. You'll disembark the ship with very few, if any, additional charges on your final bill.
  • Cruise lines with inclusive pricing: Alternatively, you can consider an upscale cruise line like Viking, which offers fares with more-inclusive pricing and some of the amenities found on board the fully inclusive lines. However, you'll still have to budget for a few expenses, such as immersive excursions and alcoholic beverages beyond wine or beer at lunch and dinner.
  • Packages and add-ons: Other cruise lines like Oceania, Windstar and Norwegian offer add-on drink packages and other promos so you can create a more all-inclusive experience.

After comparing the costs between a truly all-inclusive cruise and a sailing with package pricing for the extras, the total price may be closer than you think.

More-Inclusive Cruises

Cruise fares with these lines include many of the amenities and perks that you'll find with the all-inclusive cruises. However, you'll still need to budget for some expenses, such as alcoholic beverages, excursions and specialty dining, depending on the line.

Viking's ocean fleet of nine 930-passenger all-veranda ships offers a nearly all-inclusive experience for guests. The upscale Scandinavian-inspired ships feature king-bed staterooms and suites with many amenities, including luxurious linens and plush robes, 24-hour room service, and free Wi-Fi – plus an in-room minibar with soft drinks, water and snacks. These ships also offer a mostly all-inclusive experience with the same amenities as their oceangoing vessels. Pricing on the expedition sailings includes Zodiac safaris, the use of kayaks, a keepsake Viking jacket, and essential gear for excursions and landings.

Select excursions, pre- or post-dinner cocktails, spa treatments, special bottles of wine, and other optional purchases come at an additional expense.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships carry a maximum of 702 guests and offer immersive experiences around the world, calling on many smaller, lesser-known ports. The line also boasts more than 380 overnights and 850 late nights in port, so guests can have dinner in town and experience more of the destination's local culture and cuisine.

Azamara's cruise fares include all meals (other than the specialty dining restaurants) with water, tea and coffee. A selection of complimentary wine, sparkling wine, beer and spirits is available throughout the voyage. Cultural evenings ashore or on board the ship and gratuities are also included in the basic cruise fare.

If you'd like to enhance your onboard experience, Azamara offers inclusive "Experience More" packages that are discounted and based on the length of the voyage.

For example, on a seven-day or shorter sailing, solo travelers can add a package for $799 that's valued at $1,114 (a savings of 28%). This value-add bundle includes $350 of onboard credit to use for shore excursions; unlimited Wi-Fi for one device; a drinks package featuring premium wines, spirits and bottled water; a $150 spa credit; and a dinner at the Chef's Table or a total of three nights of specialty dining at Prime C or Aqualina. Add-on Packages and All-Inclusive Fares

These five cruise lines offer basic cruise fares that cover accommodations and some amenities – and you can typically find special pricing and promotional deals throughout the year.

With the optional packages, guests can create a mostly all-inclusive voyage with bundles of add-on extras, such as shore excursions, beverage packages, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, gratuities or shipboard credit to cover miscellaneous personal expenses such as spa treatments or a bottle of wine for a special celebration.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania's eight small luxury ships carry between 648 and 1,238 guests. The line's newest ship – Vista , the first Allura Class vessel – debuted in Rome in May 2023. Complimentary specialty dining is included in cruise fares on Oceania sailings. Pricing also covers airfare, still and sparkling water, specialty teas and coffees, soft drinks, and Wi-Fi on the ship.

Oceania's "OLife Choice" package provides additional value to your cruise with 2-for-1 cruise fares, free round-trip airfare and airport transfers – plus one free amenity you'll choose out of eight complimentary shore excursions, a beverage package or up to $800 in shipboard credit.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity offers special rates and packages throughout the year that save money over a la carte pricing – and elevate your onboard experience to be more inclusive. You'll be able to access the best deal on the added perks if you book the upgraded package before you sail, saving up to 40 to 50 percent of the actual cost.

The line's "All-Included" package bundles the most popular add-ons for cruisers: a standard beverage package for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, unlimited basic Wi-Fi, and gratuities for the staff and crew. Pricing depends on the stateroom or suite category and sailing.

There are other options when booking a cruise with Celebrity to create a more upscale and all-inclusive experience. Guests staying in all-suite The Retreat have exclusive access to a sundeck (on select ships), a lounge and Luminae – a private restaurant that features Global Culinary Ambassador Daniel Boulud at the helm. Guests of The Retreat booking the "All-Included" package receive a premium beverage package, premium unlimited Wi-Fi, gratuities and an onboard credit.

If you book AquaClass accommodations, you'll also have access to complimentary amenities and perks, such as unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite, discounts on spa treatment packages and complimentary fitness classes. In addition, you'll also find a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival (by request) and two bottles of water refreshed daily in your room. AquaClass guests also have exclusive access to the restaurant Blu. You can add the "All-Included" package to your booking, which will include the Classic Drinks Package, basic Wi-Fi and gratuities.

Passengers who want to book this "All-Included" package and are sharing a stateroom or suite will need to book the same package.

Norwegian also offers promotional fares and special deals throughout the year that feature similar amenities and perks to what you'll find on an all-inclusive cruise. The "Free at Sea" deal bundles discounts on the cruise, free specialty dining, unlimited open bar privileges, shore excursion credits, savings on Wi-Fi access, discounts on the third and fourth guests in the stateroom, and a 2-for-1 deal on airfare.

"Free at Sea Plus" takes the package up a notch with a more comprehensive beverage selection, including top-shelf cocktails, Champagne by the glass, bottles of select premium wines at dinner and signature Starbucks coffee drinks. This option also includes unlimited Wi-Fi, additional nights of specialty dining and shore excursions.

Prices for both packages on Norwegian Cruise Line will depend on the dates, length and destination of the cruise.
