Unlock fast travel in Dead Island 2 and you can quickly jump between locations

Dead Island 2 fast travel is very useful as you open up more of the 10 different zones within Hell-A. It let's you quickly switch to different areas without having to fight your way there on foot. However, it isn't available from the start in Dead Island 2 , and you can only move to adjacent zones by passing through the gateways connecting them.

As you explore you'll unlock plenty of Side and Lost & Found Quests that involve moving back and forth between destinations, as well as gathering a stack of Dead Island 2 keys that need reuniting with their locks, often in different areas. How to unlock fast travel in Dead Island 2

To unlock fast travel in Dead Island 2 you need to finish The Red Mist quest in the main campaign. That will take you to Venice Beach, where you'll end up meeting the Blue Crab boys and finding a new safe house. At this point you'll receive a notification that Fast Travel Maps are unlocked, and signpost icons will then appear on your map to show locations you can fast travel from. They look like this:

While you can access your map at any point, you can only use Dead Island 2 fast travel by physically interacting with one of the Fast Travel Maps you can find in the world. You can use these to jump between different map locations but you need to find the individual Fast Travel Maps in each area to unlock them first. Although you will be given a few to get started with at first.

Fast traveling in Dead Island 2 is not a necessity thanks to the small linear areas of the game, but it is still a useful tool to have in your arsenal. Fast traveling may not sound complicated, and it isn't, but because the game doesn't give players a great outline of how it's done, it can be easy to overlook this mechanic.

There is at least one fast travel point in every area of the game, with some locations having two. These are available very early on in the game and come in the form of maps. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for these red posters.

Players won't have to wait long in Dead Island 2 before fast traveling becomes available. To fast travel, all players need to do is find one of the red maps (these are located in most safe houses/bases dotted around the world) and then interact with it to commence fast traveling. They are usually located near to workbenches or weapon lockers, but there is still the occasional outlier in the bunch.

Below is a full list of fast travel locations, so players know they haven't missed one. While most of them will become accessible during story missions, there are a few that are found only by exploring the given area, so they're easy to miss for players that like to focus on the narrative.

Bel-Air (Emma Jaunt's Mansion)

The fast travel map at Emma Jaunt's mansion will be the first one that players come in contact with. It is located on the dining room table in the mansion, across from the workbench and weapon storage box.

Beverly Hills (Roxanne's House)

The fast travel map in Beverly Hills will be the second one players have access to. It is very easy to spot as it should be located on the wall to the right as soon as you enter Roxanne's house. This is the house that is home to Rikky Rex, for context.

Halperin Hotel (Janitor's Office)

The Halperin Hotel fast travel map will be found quite a bit inside the building. It can be found just before you climb the elevators at the end of the long hallway on the first floor. It is located in the Janitor's office.

Monarch Studios (Green Screen)

This fast travel map is located at the far end of the area (in relation to where you originally entered coming from Beverly Hills) behind the green screen. For further reference, it is located just past the giant spider machine. It can be found, more specifically, sitting on a table near the workbench.

Brentwood Sewer (ZFZ Near Patton's)

The first fast travel point players will encounter in the Brentwood Sewers can be found shortly after players meet Patton, an extremely likeable character that lives out his days secluded from the outside world.

Brentwood Sewer (Maintenance Room)

The Maintenance Room fast travel point in Brentwood Sewers is located toward the end of the sewer area after players have waded through some seriously dangerous zombie territory.

Venice Beach (Blue Crab Grill)

Once players emerge in Venice Beach after leaving the sewers, they'll find the Blue Crab Grill and the few allies within. This is a place that players will visit often as there are a lot of missions that stem from here.

Venice Beach (The Tower)

Venice Beach's Tower fast travel point is located in the military area on the beach. Players will have to wade through quite a few zombies to get here. If is located at the top of the tower in the middle of the military complex and this fast travel point is exceptionally easy to miss since players are not required to visit this location to complete the game.

Ocean Avenue (Serling Hotel)

The Serling Hotel fast travel point in the Serling Hotel is located at the top of the mall. This is where players will meet Dr. Reed for the first time and the location plays a pretty heavy role in the game's narrative.

The Pier (Lifeguard HQ)

The Pier's fast travel location is located in the Lifeguard HQ on the beach just off the Santa Monica Pier. The map itself is located at the top of the HQ so players will need to make their way through and to the top of the structure to find it.

The Metro (Utility Storage)

This fast travel point is located deep within southern California's metro tunnels. There are a lot of high-difficulty zombies in this area, so the fast travel point and the safe zone surrounding it are extremely welcome sights.

Hollywood Boulevard (Re-Aging Clinic)

This fast travel point is only available in the very last mission of the game. Players can fast travel here after the game is complete, but they won't be able to explore the area seen prior to this location, only what's seen after they reach the Re-Aging Clinic.

Want to know how to fast travel in Dead Island 2? Dead Island 2 doesn't feature a big, seamless open world. Instead, it's a series of 10 zones to explore, tied together through loading screens. As some quests make you dart between zones like a proper Hell-A tourist, backtracking can become particularly painful if you don't use fast travel.

Dead Island 2 fast travel is an oddity, though, as you can't just whip open the map and select your preferred zone. In this guide, we'll explain how to fast travel in Dead Island 2, so you can zip around the map and tick off quests at incredible speed.

To fast travel in Dead Island 2, you must find colourful maps of LA that are found in safe zones. Quest hubs, such as Emma Jaunt's mansion in Bel-Air, are safe zones that will typically contain a fast travel map.

Fast travel will unlock as soon as you secure Emma Jaunt's mansion in the opening hour of the game. However, you won't be able to make full use of it until a little later, when you first leave Bel-Air to travel to the Halperin Hotel zone. This is where you'll find the second fast travel map, and from then you'll be able to quickly zip back and forth between them.

As you might expect, you can't fast travel to a zone that you've yet to visit. When you arrive in a new zone, the story will usually lead you to a safe hub, where you can then hunt around for the fast travel map.

When you find and interact with a fast travel map, it will bring up an overworld map showing all of the zones in Dead Island 2. From here, simply select the zone to which you want to travel. This will then bring up more precise locations to which you can fast travel in those zones.

In Dead Island 2 , fast travel can let you jump between different sectors of Hell-A for easy quest completion and exploration. The only downside? You won’t have it unlocked from the get go. Below, we’ll explain how to fast travel in Dead Island 2 , with details on how far you need to progress to unlock it and how to actually access the feature once it’s available.

You’ll unlock the Dead Island 2 fast travel feature once you arrive at Venice Beach and stop in with Kai and the others inside the restaurant. That's likely to be 5-8 hours into the game. It’s the first area you’ll be prompted to go to once you’ve made it out from the Brentwood Sewer, but you will need to tackle a few undead before you’re allowed inside.

If you’ve yet to make it to Venice Beach, we’re afraid that fast travel in Dead Island 2 won’t be available – you’ll need to get about the slow way until you’ve progressed further through the story. Once you’ve been let into the restaurant by Kai and his friends, you’ll get to enjoy a lengthy (and gruesome) cutscene. After that, you’ll receive a call from Emma Jaunt and Dead Island 2 fast travel will be permanently unlocked. 

The catch is that you can’t teleport around from anywhere. You can only fast travel in Dead Island 2 by interacting with a fast travel map. These are located in key places in each zone, and you’ll only have access to one per region when the ability first unlocks. 

The first fast travel map is in Kai’s diner on a table on the opposite side of the room to where his gang are standing. On your map, Dead Island 2 fast travel points show up with a signposts icon. Head to one and interact to open a map of Hell-A. Here you can choose between the different available fast travel locations, choose the time of day for arrival, and will also be able to see the number of of available quests in each area. That should save you from slogging your way back through the grimey sewers each time you want to return to Bel Air. 

Now that you know how to fast travel in Dead Island 2, it’s worth using it first to visit traders in each area and grab any useful supplies they’re holding. If you haven’t already, make sure to pick up their fuses to unlock rare caches. You can also use fast travel to mop up any keys you missed on the first few runs through a region, such as Curtis’ Safe Key or Coach’s Car Keys in Bel Air, or the Security Cooler Key in Monarch Studios.

Fast Travel

Fast Travel is a method of travelling across large areas without having to worry about fighting zombies and featured in Dead Island , Dead Island: Riptide and Dead Island 2 . The feature can be accessed by using maps located in Safe Houses and other key locations.

The player can travel to multiple Safe Houses throughout Banoi , Palanai and California , once the player has discovered them. Fast travel between areas will often reset the items and containers located in the area, as well as enemies, however, fast travel within an area or to the same location will not respawn items or enemies.

Some Fast Travel destinations have no Fast Travel hub, being destination only. The Prison Canteen and two of the sites in the Jungle are of this type. Additionally the Resort Jungle Tunnel is exit only (hub but no destination) until Act III begins (or perhaps the Devastator main quest).

Dead Island 2 | How to unlock Fast Travel

Dead Island 2 is a big game, where fast travel is a welcome help. The world is split into districts that act like mini sandboxes where you’re intended to explore, loot, uncover secrets and, of course, survive all the zombies. But the structure of the quests and side quests necessitates a lot of backtracking between the various districts. Luckily, we’re here to help you unlock and use fast travel in Dead Island 2 .

How to unlock Dead Island 2 Fast Travel Maps

First of all, you’ll need patience. The fast travel system is progress-gated and you won’t be able to even use it until a certain point. You’ll need to fight through the first five main areas: Beverley Hills, the Halperin Hotel, Bel Air, Monarch Studios, and the Sewers. You’ll notice that in certain areas such as Emma Aunt’s house, there are folded tourist maps, and these are used for fast travel.

Once you reach Venice Beach you’ll need to make your way to the Blue Crab restaurant, where you’ll find a bunch of beach dudes holed up with the diner chef. They’ll have a quest for you, but you’ll also receive a call from Emma to head back to Beverly Hills. That’s a long ass run, and it’s here that the game finally takes pity on you and unlocks the fast travel maps.

How to use fast travel maps

There’s one map in each district. In Venice Beach, for example, it’s in the Blue Crab. In Beverly Hills it’s in Emma’s room near the workbench and storage cabinet. In Bel Air you’ll find it in Rikki and Roxanne’s house pinned to the kitchen wall. You must get to the map and interact with it to travel – you can’t just do it from the standard map screen.

You also can’t travel inside districts using it, and will still need to sprint from point to point, but it’s still very handy and something of a relief when you unlock it.

United Airlines officials say they expect to hire nearly 10,000 workers this year as U.S. air travel continues to grow, but the pace of hiring will be slower than in the previous two years partly because of delays in getting new planes from Boeing.

The airline will resume hiring pilots in July after it canceled pilot classes for May and June, Kate Gebo, United's executive vice president of human resources, said Tuesday.

United discussed its hiring plans on the day that the government reported that U.S. job openings fell in April to the lowest level since 2021. The job market remains strong, however, despite high interest rates and signs that the economy is slowing.

Boeing has slowed production and deliveries of new planes since a door plug blew out of a Boeing 737 Max 9 during an Alaska Airlines flight in January, leaving United and other carriers with fewer new jets than they expected.

Gebo said United would have hired another 3,000 to 5,000 people this year if it had received all the Boeing jets it expected. The airline said it hired 16,000 people last year.

Gebo said the Chicago-based airline has received 260,000 job applications this year, including more than 40,000 applications for 300 internships.

United officials said they expect to hire 2,300 people this year in Chicago, 1,500 around its hub in Newark, New Jersey, about 1,300 in San Francisco and 900 in Houston.

The company did not immediately give a figure for how many people will leave the airline. Gebo said most of the 10,000 new jobs represent growth at the airline, but an undisclosed number will offset attrition, which she said is 5% to 7% in a normal year.

United officials said it needs the extra staffing to keep up with travel demand.

So far this year, the number of travelers at U.S. airport checkpoints is up about 6% compared with last year, according to Transportation Security Administration figures . The TSA recorded a single-day record on the Friday before Memorial Day and expects that mark to be broken several times over the summer.

AAA forecasts nearly 44M travelers for Memorial Day weekend: See best times to travel

Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, which means people will be flooding highways and airports this weekend looking to get away for some rest and relaxation.

The American Automobile Association is projecting nearly 44 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from home over the Memorial Day holiday travel period, which is defined by the organization as the five-day period from Thursday, May 23 to Monday, May 27.

"We haven't seen Memorial Day weekend travel numbers like these in almost 20 years," said Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel, in a news release. "We're projecting an additional one million travelers this holiday weekend compared to 2019, which not only means we're exceeding pre-pandemic levels but also signals a very busy summer travel season ahead."

The organization projects over 38 million people will travel by car over Memorial Day weekend, over 3.5 million will travel by air and nearly 2 million will travel by other modes of transportation, including buses, cruises and trains.

The 38 million drivers is the highest number for Memorial Day since AAA began tracking data in 2000 and is up 4% compared to last year. The 3.5 million air travelers is an increase of nearly 5% over last year and, according to AAA, this will be the most crowded Memorial Day weekend at airports since 2005.

Drivers leaving Thursday or Friday should hit the road early to avoid mixing with commuters, AAA said, citing data from transportation data and insights provider INRIX. Drivers going back home Sunday or Monday should avoid the afternoon hours when return trips will peak.

“Travel times are expected to be up to 90% longer than normal. Travelers should stay up to date on traffic apps, 511 services, and local news stations to avoid sitting in traffic longer than necessary,” said Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX, in the news release.

Here's a breakdown of the best and worst times to travel by car depending on which day you are traveling:

Thursday, May 23

• Best travel time: Before 11 a.m. and after 7 p.m.
• Worst travel time: Between noon and 6 p.m.

Friday, May 24

• Best travel time: Before 11 a.m. and after 8 p.m.
• Worst travel time: Between noon and 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 25

• Best travel time: Before 1 p.m. and after 6 p.m.
• Worst travel time: Between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Sunday, May 26

• Best travel time: Before 1 p.m.
• Worst travel time: Between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Monday, May 27

• Best travel time: After 7 p.m.

Gas prices continue to decrease heading into Memorial Day weekend

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gasoline has fallen four cents since last week, to $3.60. The primary reasons are weak domestic demand and oil costs below $80 a barrel, according to the organization.

“Barring some unforeseen event, this pokey drop in pump prices is not likely to change anytime soon,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, in a news release. “There are seven states with county gas averages at less than $3 a gallon. This trend will likely accelerate as more gas outlets east of the Rockies drop their prices.”

This Memorial Day weekend, drivers can expect similar gas prices as last year when the national average was about $3.57.

"Pump prices rose this spring but have held somewhat steady in recent weeks," AAA said in the news release, while also noting that prices may creep higher as the summer driving season gets underway.

The wildcard remains the cost of oil, according to the organization, and unlike last year, there are now two wars – in the Middle East and Ukraine – that could roil the oil market.
