Exceptional”

The host is really nice and accommodating. The room is spacious and clean. The location is really good as well, really close to the subway station and easy to find.

It was a quite a nice stay”

First i have to say that the checking in was really smooth... gave the instructions before you arrive. The place was so near the subway station. The place was clean too. So my really short stay was really good, but i do have 1 small scare, the alley was too dark at night, i wish there was a streetlamp or something to light the alleyway, but maybe i was just too scared. but to sum it all up, it was good.

Acceptable”

Really not OK, no elevator, have to walk up stairs, can't find any staff, front desk is always empty, can't handle problems in a timely manner... There's a KTV downstairs, so people who are afraid of noise should choose carefully. The washing machine is on the 4th floor, with no signs at all. There's a bad smell in the room bathroom, and they didn't change the towels or shower gel. The space is very small... it's okay for one person, but with luggage there's no place for two people. The room fridge is small, only enough space for 2 bottles of drinks. The outside fridge is full and there's no space. The only advantage is that it's "very close to the subway exit"... everything else is really not OK.

only suit for backpackers. No lift . Hostel's premises is Level 2 to 4 .”

No lift , troublesome if you have luggage . When we go inside of the room, carpet floor was wet so carpet stank really bad . Kitchen are so small and unclean. Actually kitchen size is does not matter. But bunch of rubbish bag were sitting near stair, it was unpleasant.

Everything about this stay is horrible worst no staff no room cleaning the beds are rock and it smells so weird and ac do so much noise will never suggest it to anyone

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

This New 12-room Hotel Is Set in One of Spain’s Most Beautiful Villages – Here’s What It’s Like to Stay

Hotel Valldemossa offers a sanctuary of romance and wellness in Mallorca's historic Tramuntana Mountains.

Located in what’s widely agreed upon as one of Spain’s most beautiful villages, the new Hotel Valldemossa provides the rock-nestled abode for a nature and wellness retreat nestled amongst the romantic peaks of Mallorca’s Tramuntana Mountains.

From the courtyard garden on the terrace of Royal Carthusian Monastery, where the composer Frédéric Chopin famously spent a winter in Mallorca with his lover George Sand, the Tramuntana Mountains frame the city of Palma in the distance, but it is Valldemossa that sits at center stage. The building was once the Royal Charterhouse Palace, where important guests stayed during monastery visits, and is now Valldemossa’s newest eponymous hotel.

Opened in February 2024, the 12-room adult-only hotel is the latest design-forward project from the IT Mallorca portfolio of transformed historic properties. As general manager Maria Martínez tells me, the brand's philosophy is based on recognizing and paying tribute to the irreplicable charm of antique buildings. “Nature was the main element for this project,” Martínez says of Valldemossa. “Therefore, we looked for decorative elements that are respectful to the environment and wellbeing, that is, natural and ecological, top-level contemporary art, with original pieces and, in many cases, created specifically for our walls."

I arrived at Valldemossa with my gaze drawn upward past the 800-year-old olive trees and along the multi-level staircase leading the way to the lobby with pale terracotta banisters, punctuated by the familiar and vibrant petals of the ornamental bougainvillea. I check in outside, sipping leisurely on local red vermouth under the dappled shade of the olive branches. The layered terraces are reminiscent of the Amalfi coast, laden with citrus groves and surrounded by the high cliffs of the mountains from which birdcalls emanate like a melody from a grand stage, accompanied by the pastoral orchestra of rooster crows and donkey brays from the farm below.

I am handed a heavy gold key with a thick tassel and shown to Room #4, the same number of Chopin’s cell in the monastery across the way. The Valldemossa Suite’s terrace, which boasts a big round outdoor tub, is almost as large as the rest of the one-bedroom suite. It feels immediately and intimately Mallorquin with dark wooden beams and rustic Spanish tiles. However, the designer furniture bridges the room’s charming antique style to create an enigmatic palate of organic textures, complemented by contemporary artwork and luxury amenities like Casall yoga mats, a Marshall Bluetooth speaker, and a sit-in shower with an Effe steam machine.

Following the curve of the hotel’s perch above the valley down towards the pool, I find the outdoor gym overlooking the Valldemossa monastery view and follow the stairs past the three treatment areas of The Sanctuary, the hotel’s innovative spa concept with one of the island’s top wellness and beauty practitioners at the helm. Entering the pool and garden area, the views of Valldemossa are perfectly uninterrupted, and the ambiance is filled with the soft sounds of nature and the trickling flow of an antique fountain embedded in an ivy wall. I take a shortcut through the pergola and find a small garden awaiting a future crop of tomatoes before rushing back to the suite to try out the personal steam room.

In 1838, Chopin came to Valldemossa seeking relief from his tuberculosis and finding inspiration in the slow, far-away pace of life in a mountain village on an island in the middle of the Mediterranean. My two days at the hotel pass with a similar musical serenity, particularly in The Sanctuary, where I seek my own relief — not from tuberculosis but from a big week of hiking and mountain biking. The tailored-to-me ritual experience starts with a personal wellness consultation and ends three hours later. I emerge so relaxed that I am almost in a daze, smelling of Piroche alpine herbs and feeling completely renewed. Later at dinner, I’ll watch the sun set behind the mountains and, from this privileged position, catch the magical moment when the whole village lights up.

Here, read Travel + Leisure's full review of this special spot on Mallorca.

Valldemossa Hotel

  • Valldemossa's sultry interior design appeals to artistic sensibilities that complement the peaceful adults-only atmosphere.
  • The second outpost of De Tokio a Lima brings the unexpected flavors of Japan and Peru to the terrace, which overlooks the village skyline and serves a trip-defining lemon meringue tart.
  • Not your typical resort spa, The Sanctuary delivers an epic treatment menu that utilizes state-of-the-art equipment while prioritizing traditional Chinese medicine techniques.

travel monster stay

There are just 12 rooms at the hotel, spread across the varied terraces. Just one, the Junior Suite, is located in the main building. Between the traditional tiles and wooden beams, the chic mid-century frames of the Le Corbusier furniture set a foundation for the nature-inspired textiles that bring a light touch of boho to the earthenware color scheme.

I stayed in the largest room, the 700-square-foot Valldemossa Suite, which boasted a large terrace with a private tub separated from the rest of the property by a high stone wall. While I enjoyed the extra space in my private patio and the spacious walk-in shower and steam room, the noise and chatter from the restaurant directly above the suite spills over at night and in the morning as guests roll in for breakfast. If you don’t need so much room, I’d suggest opting for one of the more private Deluxe Terrace suites on the Palma-facing side of the hotel or a Junior Suite with views towards the monastery.

The al fresco fitness area is one of the hotel’s highlights, capitalizing on the pristine views and providing top-end yoga mats, weights, and other fitness gear ephemera, plus a punching bag and a bench press. There is a complimentary yoga class every Saturday, and personal trainers are available by reservation for one-on-one sessions. There are two pools, but the indoor pool, while complimentary, is for private use only upon request. In the lower garden, the outdoor pool has plenty of loungers and some natural shade from the trees. There is also a separate bathroom with an outdoor shower, and food and drink service can be ordered from the restaurant above. Guided hikes and excursions around Mallorca can also be arranged, but the hotel also offers a unique facility for cyclists with a fully-equipped repair center and storage racks.

The hotel’s only restaurant is De Tokio a Lima, the second location of the popular Japanese-Peruvian-Mediterranean fusion concept from chefs German de Bernardi and Ricardo Rossi. The menus in both restaurants are the same, but the Valldemossa location — more peaceful and easier to get a reservation for — is still a bit of a secret for now.

Menu highlights include the crispy shrimp fritters, umami-packed tataki, and the classic ceviche. But it’s the lemon meringue tart, filled with a sorbet made from local lemons from Sóller, that will be the trip-defining dessert. Creative signature drinks also stand out on the cocktail menu, such as the Ringo Mojito, a bright infusion of apple, yuzu, and mint that’s refreshing and almost tropical but delightfully not quite.

In the morning, a breakfast buffet is set up in the restaurant, offering a wide variety of bread and cheeses, plus lactose-free and vegetarian-friendly alternatives. Mallorquin staples like soppressata appear alongside local pastries and savory surprises like gazpacho topped with a sprinkle of caviar. The restaurant’s signature lemon dessert is also represented in miniature in case you wake up dreaming of another bite.

There are three parts to The Sanctuary: a main building with one single and one double treatment room connected to a jacuzzi tub used for soaking treatments, a satellite treatment room equipped with a Head Spa Fountain designed to work magic on your scalp, and the private area with an indoor pool and sauna that each guest can reserve once per day, retrieving the key from reception, for private use. I made the least use of the latter, and although I was initially excited to try the high-pressure hydrotherapy jet, its odd placement at the deeper end meant I had to stand on my tip-toes just to stay above water.

The core of the spa experience is the menu curated by Amor Garzón, featuring one or multi-day rituals. Depending on what you decide on after your starting consultation, you will receive a medley of treatments ranging from body wraps and acupuncture to Indiba radiofrequency therapy and lymphatic drainage massage. Beyond pampering, the whole experience was like a complete physical reset for all my aching and water-retaining muscles.

The rooms are scattered across the property’s multiple levels of stairs, so nothing is wheelchair accessible. With flights of stairs between all the main areas and rooms, those who struggle with mobility may have difficulty moving around the hotel. Although an elevator can be used to access the restaurant and the main terrace from the ground entrance, the bathrooms are not large enough to accommodate wheelchairs.

The hotel makes some effort towards sustainability with small placards letting guests know that linen changes and vanity amenities are available upon request and using refillable glass bottles to supply shower amenities.

The hotel is a short and leisurely walk to the pristinely maintained village of Valldemossa, where you can roam the museums of the large monastery complex, visit the cell Chopin and Sand resided in, and take a romantic stroll through the adjacent rose garden.

Valldemossa is a 30-minute drive from the Palma de Mallorca Airport, and although many visitors choose to explore the island by rental car, Transfer Class is the top luxury car service on the island. There is much to explore in the Tramuntana Mountains, full of similarly charming villages like Deià, most notable for its hilltop cemetery, and Sóller, accessible from Palma by an antique wooden train. Beyond romantic retreats, Valldemossa is an ideal starting point for cycling and hiking adventures on the trails of these UNESCO-protected mountains, which are a bastion of authentic Mallorquin history.

The hotel is not affiliated with any rewards programs, but you can check their website for special offers and packages.

Russia Travel Advisory

Travel advisory june 27, 2024, russia - level 4: do not travel.

Reissued after periodic review with minor edits.

Do not travel to Russia due to the consequences of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces. U.S. citizens may face harassment or detention by Russian security officials, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, limited flights into and out of Russia, and the possibility of terrorism. The U.S. Embassy has limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia. The Department has determined that there is a continued risk of wrongful detention of U.S. nationals by Russian authorities. U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Russia should leave immediately.

The U.S. government has limited ability to help U.S. citizens in Russia, especially outside of Moscow. The U.S. Embassy is operating with reduced staffing, and the Russian government has restricted travel for embassy personnel. Furthermore, all U.S. consulates in Russia have suspended operations, including consular services.

There have been reports of drone attacks and explosions near the border with Ukraine as well as in Moscow, Kazan, and St. Petersburg. In an emergency, you should follow instructions from local authorities and seek shelter.

Russia may refuse to recognize your U.S. citizenship if you are a dual U.S.-Russian citizen or have a claim to Russian citizenship. Russia has denied consular officers visits to detained dual U.S.-Russian citizens. The Russian government has forced citizens with dual nationality to join the Russian military and prevented them from leaving the country. In 2022, the Russian government mobilized citizens for its invasion of Ukraine. Military conscription continues.

In Russia, the rights to peaceful assembly and free speech are not always protected. U.S. citizens should avoid protests and taking photos of security staff at these events. Russian authorities have arrested U.S. citizens who joined protests. Moreover, there are many reports of Russians being detained for social media posts.

U.S. citizens should know that U.S. credit and debit cards no longer work in Russia. Due to sanctions, sending electronic money transfers from the U.S. to Russia is nearly impossible.

Commercial flight options are minimal and are often unavailable on short notice. If you wish to depart Russia, you should make independent arrangements. The U.S. Embassy has limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in leaving the country, and transportation options may suddenly become even more restricted.

Click  here  for Information for U.S. Citizens Seeking to Depart Russia.

U.S. Embassy staff generally are not allowed to fly on Russian airlines due to safety concerns. Recently, the FAA downgraded Russia's air safety rating from Category 1 to Category 2. Additionally, the FAA banned U.S. flights in some Russian areas, including the Moscow Flight Information Region (FIR), the Samara FIR (UWWW), and the Rostov-na-Donu (URRV) FIR within 160NM of the boundaries of the Dnipro (UKDV) Flight Information Regions. Check the FAA's Prohibitions, Restrictions, and Notices for more information.

Country Summary:

Russian officials have interrogated and threatened U.S. citizens without cause. This includes former and current U.S. government and military personnel and private U.S. citizens engaged in business. U.S. citizens may become victims of harassment, mistreatment, and extortion.

Russian authorities may not notify the U.S. Embassy about the detention of a U.S. citizen and may delay U.S. consular assistance. Russian security services also target foreign and international organizations they consider “undesirable.”

Russian security services have arrested U.S. citizens on false charges, denied them fair treatment, and convicted them without credible evidence. Furthermore, Russian authorities have opened questionable investigations against U.S. citizens engaged in religious activity. U.S. citizens should avoid travel to Russia.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has destabilized security in southwestern Russia. In October 2022, the Russian government declared martial law in the following border areas with Ukraine: Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Rostov, and Krasnodar. Under martial law, authorities can set curfews, seize property, and restrict movement. The Russian government may detain foreigners, forcibly relocate residents, and limit public gatherings. U.S. citizens should avoid all travel to these areas.

Russian authorities have questioned, detained, and arrested people for “acting against Russia's interests.” Local authorities have targeted people for posting on social media or supporting "anti-Russian" groups and punished individuals for criticizing the government or military. The Russian government's current "LGBT propaganda" law bans discussion of LGBTQI+ related topics. In November 2023, the Supreme Court labeled the so-called "international LGBT movement" as extremist. This decision effectively made it a crime to support the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons in Russia.

Terrorists continue to plan attacks in Russia. The March 2024 Crocus City Hall incident proved they can strike suddenly. Terrorists may target tourist areas, transport hubs, and markets. They may also target government buildings, hotels, clubs, restaurants, and places of worship. Parks, events, schools, and airports are also potential targets.  U.S. government employees under Embassy (Chief of Mission) security responsibility are not permitted to travel to the North Caucasus, including Chechnya and Mt. Elbrus. U.S. citizens should avoid travel to those areas.

The international community does not recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea and does not acknowledge Russia’s purported annexation of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhya. Russia staged its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in part, from occupied Crimea and there is a heavy Russian military presence in these areas. There is intense fighting across these regions and Russian authorities there have abused both foreigners and locals. Authorities have specifically targeted individuals who are seen as challenging Russia’s authority.

The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv administers consular services to U.S. citizens in Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhya. However, the conflict limits the Embassy's ability to help U.S. citizens in these areas.

Read the  country information page  for additional information on travel to Russia.

Ozzy Osbourne Cancels Monster Movie Convention Appearance on Doctor’s Orders

By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

Ozzy Osbourne was forced to drop out of an appearance at a monster movie convention in Arizona next month on doctor’s orders.

Osbourne’s wife/manager Sharon Osbourne broke the news in a video statement shared on social media earlier this week. She didn’t offer any specific reason for the cancellation, saying only that Osbourne was “unable to travel at this time.”

Sean Clark, who owns the convention booking agency Convention All Stars, added: “Ozzy really, really wanted to attend Mad Monster Party in AZ next month but unfortunately his doctor said he has to sit this one out. Let’s all wish Ozzy the best and a speedy recovery.”

The entire Osbourne family was set to appear at the Mad Monster Party, taking place July 12 through 14 in Phoenix. In her statement, Sharon said their son, Jack, would still be on-hand “flying the flag for the Osbournes.” And Clark added, “Jack will be bringing pre-signed items to be sold at the show for those wanting to get something signed by Ozzy or the family.”

Why is everybody talking about the hawk tuah girl, late-night hosts react to presidential debate: 'this cannot be real life', hawk tuah girl has already sold at least $65,000 worth of merch.

Amidst his health battles, Osbourne has made several attempts to return to the stage, but all have fallen short. In an interview with Rolling Stone UK last year , the musician bluntly stated that he may never perform live again: “I’m not going to get up there and do a half-hearted Ozzy looking for sympathy. What’s the fucking point in that? I’m not going up there in a fucking wheelchair.”

Earlier this year, Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist (he was inducted as a member of Black Sabbath back in 2006). Speaking with Rolling Stone after receiving the honor, Osbourne said he was “happy” he was “alive to see all this,” and said he planned to attend the induction ceremony in October. As to whether he’d make a speech, Osbourne quipped: “I’m not good at making speeches. I don’t like making speeches. I end up mumbling [ laughs ]. I’ll try. I can only try. Bob Dylan don’t like making speeches either.”

Review: Why the Emporium South Bank is the wildest luxe stay in Queensland

Jenni Mortimer

Lifestyle and travel editor Jenni Mortimer checks into the Emporium Hotel in South Bank, Brisbane for a luxury stay set to thrill.

Anyone who says “money can’t buy happiness’”has clearly never checked into the Emporium Hotel in South Bank.

When I entered the red neons, zebra printed and highly mirrored hotel, I realised the joy that can come with absolute opulence. While sad beige rich - Kim Kardashian circa 2023 - has been trending in high-end hotel decor for some time now, there was a childlike glee in me as I soaked in the maximalism that was the Emporium.

Stepping into the elevator to be taken up to our room on the 16th floor, I was greeted by a great white shark which began smashing into the sides of the elevator, finally breaking through as we reached my floor. My 5-year-old immediately wanted to get back in the elevator and ride it back down, only to find us greeted by a golden dragon for our next ride, coming back up with a dancing glowstick stick figure. There’s a lot to process there.

Our second elevator ride featured a gold dragon that followed our every move. Photo / NZ Herald

After the third trip in the elevator - which you beckon using a gameshow-style buzzer - we finally entered our spacious room where our bags had been swiftly delivered. The room itself was luxurious, furnished with gold accents, mirrors and marble. The curtains opened themselves as soon as we entered and I added that to the list of features I would want in my own home if the Lotto gods were on my side.

I also added to the list the TV that was hidden behind a giant mirror in the centre of the room, the wine bar, a window between the bathroom and the bedroom that you could frost with the touch of a button and a chaise longue that stretched in front of a view of the city, begging for you to eat grapes on - we settled for chocolate-coated macadamias from the minibar.

The rooms feature a stunning mirror that hides the TV. Photo / Supplied

Anyone with kids will know the allure of a hotel pool, so we got in our togs to head up to the heated infinity pool on the rooftop, complete with a stainless steel sculptural outdoor shower shaped like a 7ft flower - did I mention the extravagance? The views of the city from the pool were breathtaking and it was perfectly positioned to take in the surroundings, without having to hear their hustle and bustle.

Behind the pool was a well-equipped gym, which may have been where the hotel tried minimalism as it featured the only subtle furnishings in this hotel experience - I really was expecting gold dumbells. In a return to the prescribed opulence the hotel also offers a spa pool, with zebra-print tile work and a sauna and steam room.

The spa and sauna at the Emporium Hotel, South Bank. Photo / Supplied

The service at the Emporium was impeccable - when I realised I had forgotten my son’s favourite soft toy in the car, the valet went and fetched the bag containing it and made me feel like it was truly no trouble at all to venture to the offsite carpark for a dirty piece of fabric that closely resembles a rabbit.

That evening, we headed offsite for dinner - most of South Bank’s offerings including the pools, museum and waterside dining are accessible via a 5-10 minute picturesque walk - and then returned to our room for bed. The room had a spa-style bath and shower complete with a normal shower head and rainshower head, as well as a huge marble vanity top.

The super-king bed was incredibly comfortable as I enjoyed a cup of tea in it while my son watched Bluey on the TV, which truly baffled him when it revealed itself from behind the mirror.

While the stay and the vibe were family-friendly, some crafty parental modifications were needed to make it 5-year-old boy-friendly. The bedside tables featured some pretty sharp corners which I wedged a pillow next to and the mini bar was loaded with tiny alcohol bottles in a transparent drawer right at toddler eye level. They were relocated to the top shelf during the duration of our stay.

In the morning before we left, we enjoyed breakfast at Signature Restaurant located on the hotel’s ground floor, next to the piano bar, and found it was incredible value for money. For $39 we got a selection of fruit and pastry at the table, barista coffee and any of their breakfast menu items. I opted for the Spanish eggs that were rich in flavour and generous in portion size. The pink velvet decor of the restaurant was another feature I added to my When I Win Lotto wishlist.

Checking out was seamless, we simply paid for our chocolate-covered macadamias, my son nabbed a zebra print complimentary pen (at least I hope it was complimentary) and our car was ready and waiting, loaded with our bags.

As we drove away, still recovering from our most recent elevator shark attack, I made a mental note to buy a lotto ticket and if nothing else, find a way to incorporate zebra print into my life.
