Tradicionalno neretvansko plovilo koje je u davnim vremenima značilo život. Lađa je u prošlosti, u vrijeme prije motorizacije bila jedino prijevozno sredstvo. U njoj se prevozio teret, poljoprivredni proizvodi, stoka, građevinski materijal, a bila i transportno sredstvo za ljude. Također, na lađama se vjenčavalo, rađalo i umiralo.

Ovo područje značajno je za očuvanje gnijezdeće populacije ptica močvarica i populacije ptica koje migriraju Jadranskim seobenim putem. Do samog jezera potrebno je proći kroz močvarni dio doline koju obavija šaš, trstika i ostalo močvarno raslinje. Ovdje ćete doživjeti najljepši prizor – cvjetanje lopoča, pjev ptica i kreketanje žaba.

• River Neretva - Photo Safari

The Bus trip from Orebic to Opuzen lasts about 2 hours. The Neretva Delta is a large marshland, rich in flora and fauna, particularly famous as a habitat for numerous species of bird. The area is known to tourists and other visitors as the Croatian California. On arrival at the Delta we continue our voyage of discovery through the many canals and waterways on board a traditional Neretva rivercraft, allowing us to experience and photograph close-up the beauty of this landscape and its unspoiled nature.

Lunch, in an original setting under the open sky, brings the opportunity to sample specialities of the region, prepared in the traditional way. Accompanied by live music, this is an unforgettable experience, that will linger in the mind of every guest. In summer Lake Kuta offers the chance for a refreshing dip.

On request we can arrange visits to a rich ornithological collection with 229 samples of rare bird species, and a famous museum containing remains of a Roman Temple with 17 lifesize marble statues. Return to Orebic around 18:00

Photo-safari excursion is a unique experience!

We will take you on a boat ride in a traditional Neretva boat called lađa through canals and backwaters of Neretva and untouched nature where you can feel the call of the wild of one of the few remaining European wetlands. Neretva canals, „decorated“ with water lilies, are a habitat of unique bird species that live among bulrush and sedge which is why the area has been declared a protected ornithological reserve and soon to be a nature park. One of the main special sites on our tour is the lake Kuti.

At the end of the journey we discover the secret of the sunken city…

According to the folk traditional stories, there lies a sunken city at the bottom of the lake Kuti and they say that if you look closely during clear weather you may actually see the outlines of roofs and walls of the mysterious city.

Highlights 

Our trip starts in the charming city of Opuzen. We board a traditional Neretvian boat and get the first impressions of Neretva beauties in an hour and a half long ride. We then visit a secret restaurant that only serves guests who come by the boat. While we enjoy the local atmosphere (we get to pick out fish or meat menu) and while food is being prepared, we have the chance to swim or catch some fish. After lunch we leave the calm nature and return to the starting point in Opuzen from where we go back to Dubrovnik. The most excited explorers have the option  of visiting the dunes where Neretva meets the sea. Usually kite enthusiasts are there, and views on kites in the air are amazing! Near, in the city of Blace we take some time to swim and explore, and then we return to Dubrovnik.

Program se sastoji od dolaska do Neretve i ukrcaja na neretvanske lađe, neke stare i preko 100 godina, zatim vožnje mirisom Neretve i mandarina uz glazbenu pratnju. The Neretva Valley is getting more and more popular especially relating to Croatian tourism. Our excursion called “Green River- Lost City” is joining two attractions- going by a river boat down the exceptionally clear Norin River, and a visit to an ancient site of the Antigue town of Narona, the second largest Roman town on the eastern Adriatic coast.

The  tour begins from Dubrovnik or the surrounding area in 0830 or by appointment and drive through the Beautiful countryside takes about 2 hours and begin our tour Neretva Photo Safari.

The trip start  at Vid nearby Metković visiting the Archaeological exhibition of Narona, whose name became famous worldwide a dozen of years ago. Within relatively cramped space as many as sixteen statues were found on the former Forum. The fact is, that these have been the biggest individual finds of emperors’ statues up to now in the world. By all means, the statue of Augustus wearing a formal armor and the statue of Livia, his second wife are among the most attractive finds.

After visiting the Archaeological exhibition of findings the guests are asked to take a seat in a river boat, the traditional vessel of the Neretva River and floating through the ornithological refuge they can enjoy the last Mediterranean delta, which has still preserved its flora and fauna. That is the opportunity to use their cameras in order to take unforgettable photographs of the world, totally different from the one we live in. The voyage continues to the site by the small Norin River arranged for picnics. There, surrounded by greenness and beyond any touch of the civilization the guests are served lunch consisting of local specialties based on Dalmatian and the Neretva’s cuisine.

After lunch the guests can relax enjoying the songs and music by our local musicians or compete in a tug-of-war, and if the weather permits they can swim in the river. The trip ends with getting aboard the boats and again, sailing to the „ Lopoč“ Restaurant at Momići.

The Neretva Delta spreads over a large area some 90 minutes’ drive north of Dubrovnik.

For those driving here from the opposite direction, the most common reaction, after miles of the rocky, arid Dalmatian coast, is one of awe. The region’s unexpected lush beauty divided in a patchwork of fruit groves, crops and canals. But more than just a verdant anomaly on an otherwise jagged seaside, the Neretva Valley is a cornucopia of culture. This is one of the breadbaskets of the country as the endless row of produce stands lining the river will attest. Under a rainbow of beach umbrellas, in the area residents call the Croatian California, every imaginable fruit and vegetable – as well as honey, wine and liqueur – can be purchased.

Surrounding the main towns of Opuzen, Metković and Ploče is a unique landscape of eight large lakes and fields divided by channels accessible only by boat. Tangerine and kiwi plantations stretch for 20km – you can even join the fruit pickers in late autumn.

Near Metković is the archeological site of Narona, founded by the Greeks and visited by Julius Caesar centuries later. Its golden age came in 700 AD, when Narona was the second biggest town on the coast, ruling over 90 Illyrian settlements.

Recently, it has come into national and international focus, prompting the arrival of scores of archaeologists, historians, scholars – and tourists.

The reason for this flurry of interest surrounds the sensational findings unearthed here in the mid 1990s – and the attraction that subsequently opened in 2007. The Narona Archaeological Museum  contains temple remains and sundry artefacts from the Roman and Illyrian periods.

After the Romans, Neretva became a nest of bandits, inspiring the traditional boat parade  held in Metković every August.

When the modern warriors fight their way down to the Adriatic finish line and the reed-framed river world opens up to the sea’s horizon, it’s party time. As a new champion is crowned, the multitudes cover the harbour and bands oompah-pah to the rhythm of sloshing wine and the swirling of the cotton-candy machines. In restaurants, folks order platefuls of the region’s delicacies – roasted eel from the spit and breaded frog. But, best of all: your uneventful drive to Dubrovnik has become a gastronomic and cultural happening.

The other reason people visit Neretva is for bird-watching. The swamps here act as resting grounds before the spring and autumn migrations. Good locations for include the lakes of Kuti, Desansko and Modro oko, all protected, and the Baćina Lakes. Of the 40 species that visit, you might see cormorants, great crested grebes, various herons and the exotic hoopoe.

Guided tours from Dubrovnik include visits to orchards and bird sites, with overnights stays possible. Another way to discover this strangely beautiful region is with the Neretva Foto Safari , which also takes in Kuti Lake, site of a mysterious sunken town.

The landmark local hotel and restaurant, Villa Neretva , can also arrange lake safaris.

The Illyrian, Hellenic and Roman history of Vid, today’s quaint settlement of stone houses, has mainly become evident through these archaeological discoveries. Before this, all that was known had to be gleaned through the writings of ancient historians and the passing mention of a handful of significant artifacts in the 19th century. Excavations really only began in the 1960s – with sensational findings discovered three decades later.

The idea of creating a museum right on the archaelogical site centred on the original Roman concept of an Augusteum, established from the late 1 st century BC. This was the most significant building of any Roman forum, and here featured a group of statues unique throughout the whole territory of the Roman Empire. After years of work, with special care paid to the ancient architectural structures and mosaics, the Narona Archaeological Museum  opened its doors to visitors in May 2007.

It was an immediate success. Along with the remains of a temple built in Corinthian style, the permanent collection includes a multitude of materials from various eras, dating from the Illyrian period to the turn of the fourth to fifth centuries AD, when the Augusteum was destroyed.

Despite the quantity and variety of these exhibits, it is estimated that less than ten per cent of the local archaeological remains have been found. Since it is known that there were other temples and thermae in Narona, more significant discoveries should be expected.
