Oman citizens can now apply for ETA for UK travel

Vinod Nair

Muscat: Oman citizens travelling to the UK can apply for Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) from today, which will replace the current system of applying for a visa.

The ETA can be applied for those travelling to the UK on or after February 22, 2024.

The same rule applies to nationals of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Omanis can get an ETA instead of a visa if they are coming to the UK for up to six months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business or short-term study, coming to the UK for up to three months on the creative Worker visa concession coming to the UK for up to 1 month for a Permitted Paid Engagement transiting through the UK.

Eligible individuals will be able to apply for an ETA online, either using the ‘UK ETA app’ or by searching for ‘Apply for an ETA to come to the UK’ on the gov.uk website.

It costs £10 to apply and everyone travelling needs to get an ETA, including babies and children.

It is possible to apply for other people. Meanwhile, it takes three working days to get the ETA.

Occasionally, it may take longer than three working days and one can travel to the UK while waiting for a decision.

The applicants will get an email confirming the ETA.

The ETA lasts for two years and can travel to the UK as many times as you want during that time.

According to official sources, the ETA scheme is being introduced as part of reforms to streamline and digitalise the UK’s border and legal migration system whilst enhancing security.

It will help improve UK border security by allowing the government to make the necessary security checks on travellers before they arrive in the UK.

Those applying for an ETA will provide their biographic, biometric and contact details, and answer a short set of suitability questions.

This will increase the government’s knowledge about those seeking to come to the UK and prevent the arrival of those who present a threat.

The ETA is for visa-exempt travellers, otherwise known as non-visa nationals. Non-visa nationals are foreign citizens who can enter the UK for short stays without requiring a visa. If you are unsure whether you need a visa for short stays in the UK, visitors can use the Home Office ‘check if you need a UK visa’ tool.

Currently, Gulf nationals are paying £30 per visit to the UK under the current Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) scheme and Jordanian nationals £100 for a visit visa.

Home to stunning dive sites, intriguing archeological ruins, historic forts and souqs (markets) and some of the region’s best hiking trails, Oman promises an unforgettable travel experience. Visas to visit this complex, storied land are easy to obtain, but there's some red tape to navigate compared to its Gulf neighbors.

Many people visit Oman after spending a few days in Dubai in the neighboring United Arab Emirates, but you may feel a bit overwhelmed by the visa process for Oman. Whether you plan to relax on the beach, explore history Muscat, or go hiking in the Hajar Mountains, here’s a guide to the latest visa requirements for this fascinating desert sultanate.

Who needs a visa to visit Oman?

Citizens of 103 countries – including the US, Canada, the UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and most EU and EEA nations – can visit Oman without a visa, so long as the stay does not exceed 14 days. See the website of the Foreign Ministry of Oman for a full list of countries approved for visa-free travel.

Citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, can travel to Oman completely visa-free. If you're unsure about the rules for your nationality, check the website of the Royal Oman Police – the body responsible for overseeing Oman's immigration system.

All visa-exempt visitors need to present evidence of confirmed hotel bookings for the entire duration of their stay, plus health insurance and a return travel ticket leaving Oman within the visa-free period. Your passport should also be valid for at least six months after the date you arrive in Oman.

Additional requirements for visa-free travel

Citizens of some countries on the approved list, such as Mexico, India and Jordan, can only visit Oman without a visa if they hold a valid Schengen Area visa or a valid visa for the US, Canada, Australia, UK or Japan (or are legally resident in one of these countries). Consult the Royal Oman Police website for more information.

How to stay in Oman longer than 14 days

Apart from visitors from GCC countries, all travelers require a tourist visa to enter Oman if they intend to stay in the country for more than 14 days. Applications for all types of tourist visas must be made online on the official Oman e-visa website before arriving in Oman.

Visas for tourists who are GCC residents

Visitors who are resident in the GCC but hold different citizenship can apply for a Resident Tourist Visa so long as they are employed in a profession on Oman's approved list (or accompanied by someone in one of those professions). These visas cost OR5 (US$13) and allow stays in Oman of up to 28 days.

Applications must be made via the official Oman e-visa website, and your GCC residence visa must be valid for at least six months after entry into Oman.

Visa for tourists who are not GCC residents

Tourists who are not residents in a GCC country who want to visit Oman for more than 14 days will need to apply online for an Unsponsored Visit Visa. There are various types of Unsponsored Visit Visas, valid for tourism, business travel or transiting through the country, and each has its own rules and conditions.

It's best to check which class of visa you’re eligible to apply for and the visa conditions via the visa eligibility tool on the official Royal Oman Police website.

Visas for 30-day stays in Oman

Citizens of 72 countries – including the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Japan, and many European countries – can apply for a 26B Tourist Visit Visa, a single-entry visa that allows you to stay in Oman for 30 days. This costs OR20 (US$52), and applications must be made on the official website where a full list of eligible nationalities is available.

The same nationalities can also apply for the 36B Tourist Visit Visa, a long-term, multiple-entry visa that is valid for one year and allows a maximum stay of 30 days in Oman for each visit. It costs OR50 (US$130).

Other classes of Tourist Visit Visas

Citizens from other countries who have a valid Schengen Area visa or a valid visa for the US, UK, Canada, Australia or Japan may be eligible to apply for a single-entry 26M Tourist Visit Visa for OR20 (US$52), or a one-year multiple-entry 36M Tourist Visit Visa for OR50 (US$130). The list of approved countries includes India, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Maldives, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

How to visit Oman from Dubai

Travelers who fulfill the conditions for visa-exempt entry into Oman and have a valid tourist visa for Dubai can apply for a Type 21 Dubai/Oman Common Visa (also called the Dubai/Oman Joint Visa). This free single-entry visa allows a stay of up to 21 days in Oman and is not extendable. It is only valid if you enter Oman directly from Dubai (and not from any other emirate in the UAE).

You can apply for this visa through the Consulate General of the Sultanate of Oman in Dubai. To qualify for this class of visa, your Dubai tourist visa must have at least 21 days validity remaining on the date you enter Oman.

Other visa options for Oman

Five and 10-year multiple-entry visas are available for US diplomatic passport holders and US citizens who are visiting Oman to attend a training course or as a member of an international organization registered in Oman, such as the World Health Organization. To apply, you’ll need to submit additional documents detailing the purpose of your visit.

Applying for a visa for Oman

When applying for an Omani visa via the official e-visa portal , ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after the date you plan to enter Oman. You will need to submit a photograph, a copy of your passport, a hotel booking, and confirmed flight tickets confirming the dates of your entry and departure from Oman.

Visa processing times can vary depending on the type of visa – expect the process to take anything from 24 hours to a few days. To ensure that your visa is authorized before you check in for your flight, apply online at least four days in advance of your trip.

Even if you intend to drive to Oman from Dubai and enter through a land border, it's wise to apply online for the right type of visa before you travel. Hard copy application forms allowing you to apply for an Omani visa on arrival may be available at the border, but this system is being phased out, and wait times can be several hours.

Overstays and visa extensions for Oman

If you overstay your visa, a fine of OR10 (US$26) applies for every day beyond the term allowed on your visa, and you may have trouble entering Oman in future. Single-entry tourist visas can be extended for another 30 days, multiple-entry tourist visas cannot be extended – you can apply for a visa extension on the official e-visa portal.

Do Omani citizens need an ETA for the United Kingdom?

Absolutely! Starting from February 2024 , if you're an Omani passport holder planning to travel to the UK, you must get an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) . This new ETA is designed to make visa-free travel to the UK easier, and it will replace the previous UK Visa Waiver.

However, you still have the option to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa if you prefer. Let's learn more about the travel documents available for Omani citizens visiting the UK.

Common reasons for UK ETA refusals in Oman

While the UK ETA is not currently available for Omani citizens, knowing the potential reasons for ETA refusals is crucial. Check out these common reasons for rejection:

Incomplete or inaccurate information: Ensure your application form is complete and accurate, matching the supporting documents.

Failure to meet eligibility criteria: It’s crucial to meet the eligibility criteria for the UK ETA, including nationality, valid passport, and travel purposes.

Previous immigration or travel violations: Having overstayed a previous visa or involvement in criminal activities can lead the government to deny a UK ETA application.

What to expect after submitting the UK ETA application in Oman?

Once you have submitted your UK ETA application , UK authorities will initiate the processing stage. During this procedure, they will review your application form and conduct background checks. If everything goes smoothly, you can expect a confirmation email notifying you of the approval of your UK ETA.

UK ETA approval and denial for Omani citizens

Approved UK ETA: If your application is approved, you’ll receive an email confirming the grant of your ETA. This email will provide details of your approved ETA and its electronic linkage to your passport. When you arrive in the UK, simply present your passport to the immigration officer to enter the country.

Denied UK ETA: If your application is denied, it means that the UK government has identified an issue or inconsistency in your application. If this happens, you can review the information and eligibility criteria and reapply for the ETA , ensuring any discrepancies are resolved.

Traveling before February 2024? Get a UK Electronic Visa Waiver

Omani citizens visiting British territory before the introduction of the ETA in February 2024 must get an Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) . The EVW is an online form that facilitates travel for various purposes, such as tourism, business, study, or medical treatment.

Safety and Security

Terrorism:  Terrorist groups and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad.  Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack – including knives, firearms, and vehicles – to more effectively target crowds.  Frequently, their aim is unprotected or vulnerable targets, such as:

  • High-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)
  • Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists
  • Places of worship
  • Schools
  • Parks
  • Shopping malls and markets
  • Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and scheduled commercial flights)

For more information, see our Terrorism page.

See the  Department of State  and the  FBI  pages for information on scams.

Victims of Crime:  U.S. citizen victims of sexual assault are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy for assistance. Report crimes to the local police at 9999.  Emergency hotlines are mostly Arabic-speaking.  The U.S. Embassy has received reports from U.S. citizens who were unable to receive assistance due to language barriers.  Contact the U.S. Embassy at +968 2464-3400.  Remember that local authorities are responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes.

For additional information please see Oman’s Penal Code and our Human Rights Report for Oman .

Dial 1100 to reach the government-operated domestic violence hotline.

Tourism : The tourism industry is generally well-regulated and rules with regard to best practices and safety inspections are regularly enforced. Hazardous areas/activities are identified with appropriate signage, and professional staff is typically on hand in support of organized activities. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is widely available throughout the country. Outside of a major metropolitan center, it may take more time for first responders and medical professionals to stabilize a patient and provide life-saving assistance. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance .

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties:  You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned.  Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the U.S., regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on  crimes against minors abroad  and the  Department of Justice website.

Arrest Notification : If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately. Omani authorities typically do not permit foreigners accused of crimes to leave the country while cases are open.

See our  webpage  for further information.

Carry your passport at all times, or you could be detained.

It is illegal to photograph certain buildings.

Alcohol and Drugs:  You may be arrested for possession of alcohol or driving under the influence. Drinking is permitted in some international hotels, bars, homes, and some restaurants.

Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking in illegal drugs include lengthy jail sentences and heavy fines.  Some prescription medications, such as narcotics, available in the United States may be illegal in Oman.  Travelers should check the Oman Ministry of Health’s Medications and Travel webpage before importing prescription medications.

Motor Vehicle Violations:  Traffic laws are strictly enforced and carry heavy penalties. Remote traffic cameras are extensively used to monitor speeding and stop light infractions.

Immigration officials, airports and other ports of entry and exit have ready access to information on traffic offenses, and violators cannot depart Oman unless all fines have been paid in full.

Personal Defamation Charges:

  • Using vulgar language or hand gestures can lead to personal defamation charges.
  • An accusation alone, regardless of who files it, can initiate a legal process.
  • U.S. citizens can usually resolve these cases with a formal apology and payment of damages to the aggrieved party.

Cultural Heritage Items:  To avoid prosecution, check first with Omani authorities before taking “cultural heritage items” such as archaeological artifacts, meteorites, or stones.

Notary Services:  All foreign public documents (Birth, Marriage, Death, Divorce, academic records, etc.) need to be apostilled for use in Oman. The U.S. Embassy in Oman cannot apostille any documents issued in the U.S. See  our website  for designated authorities in the United States. That can issue an apostille.

Employment in Oman:  Although a common practice, it is illegal for Omani employers to retain your passport. Such retention could grant undue leverage to your employer in case of a dispute. U.S. passports are the property of the U.S. government.

The U.S. Embassy cannot intervene in labor disputes. At the beginning of any employment, obtain a contract that clearly states the terms of employment. Try to resolve disputes privately with your employer. If this fails, consult our  list of lawyers .

Dress Code : Be sensitive to Islamic culture and do not wear sleeveless shirts, halter-tops, or shorts. Only wear athletic clothing in public when engaged in sports activities.

Currency : U.S. bills printed before 2006 are often not accepted. Local currency is easily available from ATMs or currency exchange counters.

LGBTQI+ Travelers:  Consensual same-sex sexual conduct is illegal and subject to a jail term of six months to three years. See our  LGBTQI+ Travel Information page  and section 6 of our  Human Rights report  for further details.

Travelers with Disabilities:  The law in Oman prohibits discrimination against persons with physical, intellectual, or mental disabilities   Expect accessibility to be limited in older buildings (including government buildings and schools), public transportation, and general infrastructure, and more common in newer medical facilities and public buildings in cities. Outside of urban areas, access is greatly reduced.  Handicapped parking spaces are scarce.

Omanis will generally try to accommodate reasonable requests for assistance.

Students : See our  Students Abroad  page and  FBI travel tips .

Women Travelers:   See our travel tips for  Women Travelers .

COVID-19 Testing:   For general PCR testing and exiting Oman, various health clinics in Oman offer PCR tests with results within 72 hours as well as 24-hour and 3–6-hour options.  PCR tests are at the expense of the individual/traveler.  Prices vary by clinic and range from 20 – 40 OMR; surcharges often apply for expedited result processing within 24 hours or less.  Drive up testing, walk-in tests, and tests by appointment are all available in Oman.  Test result delivery varies by clinic: e-mail, text, and physical message are commonly used to communicate results.

COVID-19 Vaccines:   The COVID-19 vaccine is available for U.S. citizens to receive in Oman. Please refer to the  Omani Ministry of Health  for additional information on vaccination registration.

Visit the FDA's website to learn more about FDA-approved vaccines in the United States.

For emergency services in Oman, dial 9999.  Emergency hotlines are mostly Arabic-speaking.  The U.S. Embassy has received reports from U.S. citizens who were unable to receive assistance due to language barriers.

Response times for ambulance services vary.  Injured or seriously ill travelers should take a taxi or private vehicle to the nearest major hospital rather than wait for an ambulance.

Modern medical facilities and Western-style pharmacies are available. Local medical treatment varies from average to inadequate, depending on location.

Hospital emergency treatment is available.

We do not pay medical bills.  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas.  Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See  our webpage  for more information on insurance overseas.  Visit the  U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  for more information on type of insurance you should consider before you travel overseas.

We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Check with the Government of Oman to ensure the medication is legal in Oman.

Vaccinations : Be up-to-date on all  vaccinations  recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The U.S. Embassy maintains a  list of doctors and hospitals .  We do not endorse or recommend any specific medical provider or clinic.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions:  Road conditions in cities and along major highways are good. Road conditions in rural areas range from good to poor. During rare instances of rain, roads are prone to flash flooding.

Travel between cities can be dangerous due to poor lighting, wandering livestock, and speeding drivers.

Public Transportation:  Public transportation is generally safe, although vehicles may swerve to pick up passengers without warning.

Traffic Violations:

The following traffic violations may result in jail sentences, fines, and/or deportation:

  • driving without a license
  • running a red light
  • driving under the influence of alcohol
  • failure to wear a seat belt
  • talking on cell phones while driving (hands-free technology is allowed)
  • excessive speeding or overtaking another vehicle
  • failure to maintain a clean car

When involved in a traffic violation, cooperate with police officers and do not attempt to negotiate payment.

If you are involved in a traffic accident that involves injuries, death, or material damage to vehicles, do not move your vehicle until the police give you permission. Moving your car may be interpreted as an admission of guilt. For minor traffic accidents with no damage or injuries, you may move your vehicle to the side of the road.

Traffic Guidelines:

  • Traffic circles are common. The driver already in the circle always has priority.
  • Drivers flashing high beams are signaling that they want to pass.
  • Do not turn right on a red traffic signal.

Driving License Requirements:

  • Short-term visitors with a U.S. driver’s license may drive rental vehicles, but not privately registered cars.
  • Residents must have an Omani driver's license.
  • To obtain an Omani license, you must take a vision test and either have a U.S. license (with proof of being licensed for at least two years) or take a driving test.

Car Insurance:

  • Insure rental cars against death, injury, and loss or damage.

Residents may insure their vehicles outside the Sultanate; however, third party liability insurance must be purchased locally.  For all traffic-related emergencies, call the Royal Oman Police at 9999. Have an Arabic speaker call when giving directions to a location, since English-speaking operators are not always available.

See our  Road Safety page  or the  Royal Oman Police website  for further information.

Aviation Safety Oversight:  As there is no direct commercial air service to the United States by carriers registered in Oman, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not assessed the Government of Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority for compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation safety standards. See the  FAA’s safety assessment page  for further information.

Maritime Travel:  Mariners planning travel to Oman should also check for  U.S. maritime advisories and alerts . Information may also be posted to the U.S. Coast Guard homeport website  and the  NGA broadcast warnings .

Q&A on UK Visa system in Oman

"we’re committed to supporting further growth and delivering customer service excellence” Matt Heath, Regional Director of UK visas

VAC

UK Visa Application Centre

The number of UK visas issued to Omanis has risen rapidly in recent years, underscoring the popularity of the UK and the special relationship between the two countries. Following on from the Olympics last year, 2013 is forecast to break all records again.

The UK’s global target is to return visa applications in 15 working days once the application has been submitted at the application centre. In recognition of the importance of Omani customers the average visa processing time in Muscat is less than five working days. Over 99% of visit visas are issued, highlighting how straight forward the process is.

As part of our programme of continuous improvement a series of enhancements have been implemented over recent years to provide greater convenience and choice for high value Omani customers:

*A priority application service is available, which usually returns an application in just three working days.

*Customers can use our VIP lounge when submitting an application for a more personal service.

*Applications and payments are now made online, delivering a streamlined system and reducing wait times at the application centre. The online visit form takes about 20 minutes to complete.

*An e-appointment system has been introduced for greater convenience, but if you can’t wait for the next available appointment, for an additional fee you can simply walk in to the application centre, Sunday to Thursday 8 AM –9 AM and 4- 6 PM.

*For added convenience regular travellers to the UK are advised to apply for long term visits visas valid for 2, 5 and 10 years.

Matt Heath, Regional Director of UK visas and Immigration in the Gulf said:

These enhancements reflect the special importance placed on customers from Oman. In the past two years we’ve seen growth of over 40% and we’re committed to supporting further growth and delivering customer service excellence.”

Specific Questions

1.Length of application form is approx 20 pages, why can’t it be simpler?

The visit application form is online. When completed a print out of the form is around three and a half pages (not including the disclaimers). It takes about 20 minutes to complete and asks for simple details about the applicant, their family and employment, the purpose of their visit and previous travel.

2.Why does it take so long to grant the visa?

The UK’s global target is to return non settlement visa applications in 15 working days from submission to the VAC. The average visa processing time in Muscat in 2012 was less than five working days, though visa work is seasonal and so it can take a little longer during the summer months. If an applicant need a quicker service they can pay for a priority visa which is usually returned in three working days.

3.Why should all family members be interviewed, including children?

We rarely interview Omni visa applicants or their family members

4.The price of the visa is expensive why?

A UK visit visa costs just £80 which is in a similar price range to competitor countries, however different countries visas offer different benefits, for example the standard UK visit visa is multiple entry for 6 months, others countries visas are only single entry meaning they cannot be used more than once.

5.What is the reason behind asking the applicant to provide you with 6 month bank statement etc etc?

There are no mandatory documentary requirements for submitting a UK visit visa application. The applicant must prove that the meet our immigration rules which are simple:

*That they have a legal and legitimate reason to enter the UK

*That they can afford to maintain themselves when in the UK without access to public funds

*That they intend to leave at the end of the proposed trip

We try to help applicants by advising them which documents would prove that they meet the rules. For Omanis this is usually a recent bank statement, evidence of what they will be doing in the UK, and evidence of their employment status in Oman.

6.Why is the VIP service no longer offered?

We have several VIP services, applicants can use our VIP lounge for an additional fee and/or if they want their visa processed more quickly they can pay to use our priority service which usually returns the application in 3 working days.

7.Complaints about the visa application centre

The UK application centre is outsourced to VFS Global who in total manage 875 application centres for 44 sovereign governments in 87 countries globally. VFS takes its responsibility as an employer in Oman seriously: eight of the nine staff working in the centre are Omani. If applicants need information on applying for a visa we have a dedicated call centre for dealing with enquiries and guidance on applying for visas is available online. You can contact the call centre on +968 24497078/ +968 24498437 or by email on [email protected].

Oman eVisa Requirements for Citizens of the United Kingdom

British citizens can get a tourist visa for Oman online thanks to the Omani Electronic Visa (eVisa) system.

The Oman eVisa for UK citizens is regarded as the fastest and most convenient way to authorize a trip to the Sultanate of Oman thanks to the streamlined digital application process.

British travelers can request the Oman eVisa by completing an online application without needing to schedule an appointment at an embassy or consulate. They can submit their eVisa request from anywhere in the world within a few minutes.

You must meet a few basic Oman eVisa requirements for British citizens to apply.

You may visit the country for up to 30 days at a time with an Oman eVisa for citizens of the UK. It is available as either a single-entry or multiple-entry visa.

British nationals who plan to stay long-term in Oman or perform non-tourist activities such as work or business should inquire about the relevant types of visa at the Embassy of Oman in London.

Types of eVisas for Oman Available to British Passport Holders

Britons with dual citizenship must take into account the Omani eVisa is a unique online visa that cannot be transferred to a second passport. If they travel to Oman with a different passport from the one they applied with, the eVisa will not be valid and they may not be able to enter Oman.

If the UK passport registered to the Oman eVisa is lost, damaged, stolen, or expires before the journey to the Sultanate, you should apply again using your new passport . This is quick and simple to do online.

Parents and guardians may complete the eVisa application form on behalf of their dependents. You can use the same email address and payment method for all the applications of everyone in your household.

How much is the Oman visa from the UK?

UK travelers must pay the eVisa processing fee to ensure their application is submitted.

The Oman eVisa fee for British applicants depends on which type of visa you are applying for.

You will be prompted to enter your card details at the appropriate time during the application. The payment is made via a secure online platform .

Evaluation process of the Omani eVisa applications by British petitioners

The Royal Oman Police analyzes all the eVisa requests and usually replies with a resolution in 2 working days .

UK citizens who have answered their forms correctly will receive a confirmation email where they can download their authorized eVisa in PDF format , which they must print out at their earliest convenience.

We recommend submitting the eVisa forms at least 3 business days for the arrival date to account for busy touristic periods.

Arriving in Oman from the United Kingdom

Britons should ensure their arrival and departure meet the authorized dates on their approved eVisa. They can enter Oman via any international port of entry by air, sea, or road.

Visitors from the United Kingdom should note the eVisa cannot be extended . If you need to prolong your stay due to an unexpected issue, you are advised to simply leave the country temporarily, apply for a new eVisa through the quick online system, and re-enter. This usually takes less than 48 hours.

Everything You Need To Know About Oman Visa

oman-visa-image

It should be noted that the United Kingdom is not a visa exempt country, and as a result, all British citizens should obtain a visa to enter Oman legally.

Oman issues visas to foreign nationals depending on the purpose and nature of the traveler’s trip. Please find below the different types of visas issued by Oman to foreign nationals.

Oman tourist e-visa

Oman tourist e-visas are issued to foreign nationals who intend to visit the country exclusively for tourism-related activities.

Obtaining an e-visa is undoubtedly the easiest way to obtain a visa, as it allows a UK citizen to get an electronic travel authorization from the comfort of their home.

There is absolutely no need to visit the Oman embassy, and travelers can send all the documents to Visa Genie via mail. In order to get an Oman tourist e-visa, travelers should submit the documents mentioned below.

  • The applicant should send the copy of his or her United Kingdom passport. Please ensure that this passport is valid for six months, and has at least one blank page.
  • The traveler should send a digital copy of a recently taken passport-sized photograph. This photograph should be taken in a white background, and it should not be older than six months.
  • It is necessary to submit the onward and return flight tickets or the full version of the itinerary.
  • In order to get an Oman tourist e-visa, UK citizens should submit copy of confirmed hotel room booking reservation. While submitting this proof of accommodation, the applicant should make sure that the hotel room booking reservation shows the name of the applicant, dates of stay, name of the hotel, and its address.

Oman business e-visa

UK citizens intending to visit Oman for business related activities can apply for business e-visas. As the entire application process to obtain an e-visa can be completed online, there is absolutely no need to visit the embassy.

To obtain an Oman business e-visa, it is necessary to submit the below mentioned documents.

  • The applicant’s passport copy should be sent. This passport should have six months validity, and sufficient blank pages for markings. If the validity of your passport is less than six months, do renew it before submitting the application.
  • A digital copy of the applicant’s passport-sized photograph should be submitted. The photograph should be taken in a white background, and the applicant is not supposed to wear spectacles in the photograph. The applicant should also make sure that the photograph is taken within the last six months. In the photograph, the applicant should also make sure that it is providing the full-frontal view of the head with the face centered in the middle.
  • The applicant should submit a business introduction letter issued by the traveler’s employer in the United Kingdom. This business introduction letter should detail the purpose and nature of the trip, along with the dates of stay inside Oman.
  • A letter of invitation from the company in Oman should be submitted. This letter should introduce the applicant, and it should specify the type and desired validity of the visa. This invitation letter should also detail the purpose of the journey.
  • It is necessary to submit the full version of the itinerary or copies of onward and return tickets.
  • As a proof of accommodation, the applicant should submit hotel room booking reservation. The hotel room booking reservation should show the name of the applicant, name of the hotel, dates of stay and the address of the hotel.

Oman tourist visa

Unlike tourist e-visas, regular tourist visas should be applied directly via the embassy. These visas are issued only for tourism-related activities, and using these visas, foreign nationals are not supposed to engage in any kind of activities while inside Oman. However, at this time, Visa Genie is not assisting to obtain a regular tourist visa. In order to visit Oman for tourist purposes, please apply for an e-visa, as it is easiest option for travelers.

Oman business visa

Oman regular business visas can be obtained via the embassy. Unfortunately, Visa Genie, at this time, does not assist travelers to obtain a regular business visa. To visit Oman for business activities, please apply for a business e-visa.

Oman transit visa

If the UK citizen is transiting to a different destination, he or she can stay visa free for 24 hours.

However, the traveler should meet the below-mentioned guidelines to stay visa free while inside Oman.

  • While inside the Oman airport, the foreign national should make sure that he or she is staying inside the International transit area.
  • The traveler should continue journey by the same or first flight to the next destination.
  • The applicant’s passport should be valid for six months, and it should also have one blank page for marking.
  • It is necessary to hold proof of sufficient funds.
  • The applicant should hold onward and return ticket proofs.
  • It is mandatory to hold all documents needed for the next destination.
  • It is necessary to hold a visa required for the next destination country.
  • The traveler should make sure that boarding is allowed without a visa.

If you are not meeting the above-mentioned criteria, a visa may be required to enter Oman.

Oman official travel visa

Oman official travel visa is issued to foreign nationals who intend to visit Oman for official purposes. These visas cannot be obtained before the journey, and these travel documents should be arrived after arriving at the Oman airport.

It should be noted that the sponsor must organize approval for an entry permit from the Immigration Department. In order to obtain an approval of entry permit, the UK citizen should send the copy of his or her passport to the sponsor in Oman. Please note that the passport has six months validity and sufficient blank page for markings.

After receiving the passport, the sponsor will make the application to the Immigration Department. Once the entry permit is approved, it will be forwarded to the airport where the applicant is going to arrive. Sponsor will send the visa approval to the applicant, and using this, the foreign national can travel to Oman.

Oman work visa

Oman work visas should be obtained by the sponsor in Oman, and after obtaining it, the visa should be sent to the applicant. In order to get a work visa, the foreign national should send the valid passport to the sponsor in Oman.
