Troye Sivan’s Tour Looks Are A Love Letter To Gay Fashion

The popstar kicked off his Something To Give Each Other Tour in custom Prada and Helmut Lang.

It’s time to feel the rush. Aussie pop singer and internet boyfriend Troye Sivan kicked off the European tour for his third album, Something To Give Each Other , in Lisbon on May 29. (He’s hitting Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom before co-headlining Sweat , an international tour with Charli XCX , this fall.) And for the opening night at the Coliseu dos Recreios, Sivan delivered on the queer Bushwick-meets-runway fashion he’s chosen throughout this album cycle.

Drawing on the slick, ‘90s-leaning aesthetic from the “Rush” video , Sivan wore custom Helmut Lang designed by creative director Peter Do specifically for the tour. The barely there cotton tank top and accompanying stringy harness directly reference Helmut Lang SS03 , where similarly skimpy tanks and tees produced a queer, underground-raver effect. Do also designed custom briefs and stirrups for the singer.

Elsewhere in the show, Sivan chose an all-white sheer trench coat, billowing oversized shirt and pants that flew around him as he performed, which were all custom Prada that echoed past menswear collections like SS99 .

Another rave-ready look featured a vintage T-shirt ripped to shreds that says “chic as f*ck, baby,” worn with gargantuan pants. And to perform “One of Your Girls,” Sivan had on a black bustier and oversized pants, echoing the drag look he donned for the song’s music video .

Sivan has always had fashion chops, but with his new stylist Marc Forné, he’s fully leaning into the gay pop star fantasy with a now-signature recipe: a dash of George Michael, a hint of ‘90s runway fashion, and a sprinkle of Berlin club attire. He’s not afraid to push boundaries and make a statement, and his homoerotic fashion choices are tasteful, simple yet effective, and rooted in high-brow references. If this first night is any indication, we’re in for a year chock full of fashion moments to remember.

Troye Sivan Updates Madonna’s ’80s Concert Uniform

In the “One Of Your Girls” music video , Troye Sivan proved that he can be a pop girl, too. Well, for the opening night of his “Something To Give Each Other” tour yesterday, the Aussie referenced the pop girl with his on-stage wardrobe.

Sivan stepped out to the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, Portugal last night for a performance that the Internet has aptly dubbed “gay as hell.” The singer made sure to slip into a range of grungy runway looks (more on those, later) throughout his performance, but it was a black bustier outfit that bore a striking resemblance to the OG “Material Girl.” Sivan sported the lingerie number while performing “One Of Your Girls” as he let one of the piece’s straps hang loosely around his bicep. He paired the corset with low-rise parachute pants, a silver belt, and black shoes.

Sivan’s top appeared to be modeled on a similar lace number Madonna wore during the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards. Of course, Madonna’s Gaultier cone bra has been reinterpreted time and time again—but her 1989 garment took a more traditional, fitted approach. Sivan also incorporated elements of the Gaultier bra, too, mixing hints of lace with a cone-shaped bra portion.

Later in the evening, Sivan switched into a custom Prada outfit that also had inklings of decades past. His sheer button down shirt and see-through pants appeared to be inspired by Miuccia Prada’s spring 1999 menswear collection for the Italian brand. Sivan paired his diaphanous pieces with white heeled boots and a matching blazer which he removed at several points throughout the set.

Sivan then enlisted the help of one of fashion’s buzziest designers for yet another show look. He slipped into a Peter Do-designed Helmut Lang moment made up of a harness-like tank top and low-rise leather pants.

Sivan has a few more solo European dates left until he meets up with Charli XCX for their joint “Sweat” tour. Surely, Charli and Troye are going to match each other’s fashion freak.

Troye Sivan’s Primavera Sound 2024 Performance Was A Steamy Way To Kick Off Pride Month Early

In the United States, June represents national Pride Month. But Troye Sivan decided to kick his personal celebration off a day early.

Yesterday (May 31), the “ Angel Baby ” singer took to the stage of Primavera Sound Festival 2024 . During Troye’s set, he treated attendees to a steamy NSFW performance that would make Madonna blush.

From sexually explicit gestures with the microphone, a sensual make out session with a dancer, and steamy choreography, Troye surely spiked the temperature in Barcelona, Spain.

Fans online praised Troye for his showmanship. “Australia’s not ready for a Troye Sivan show,” wrote on user. “An absolute masterclass of performance, electricity and gay sh*t. Troye Sivan, you are a SUPERSTAR. This is the highlight of primavera sound 2024.”

Thankfully for Troye, Spain has some of the most progressive LGBTQ laws in the world. So, he was allowed to complete his performance without interruption. This wasn’t the case for The 1975 .

After their set at Good Vibes Festival 2023 , The 1975 were reportedly arrested following frontman Matty Healy and bassist Ross MacDonald’s onstage kiss .

Troye has continued to use his fame to raise awareness to LGBTQ injustices and his music to create displays of queer love, including his album Something To Give Each Other ‘s cover and the gender-bending video for “ One Of Your Girls .”

So Troye’s onstage actions at Primavera Sound 2024, isn’t anything new for him and his Something To Give Each Other Tour provided that.
