Ταξίδι στην Αίγυπτο 6 οκτωμβριου του 23 Πολύ καλή οργάνωση και πολύ ωραίο πρόγραμμα με πολύ πρωινά ξύπνηματα, τα οποία βέβαια τα γνωρίζαμε από πριν κ δεν είχαμε θέμα με αυτό. Ο ξεναγός προσπαθούμε να βγάλει κ από τη μύγα ξίγκι. οτιδήποτε δραστηριότητα έξτρα μας την πουλούσε πανάκριβα σε μια πάμφθηνη χώρα. άτομα του γκρουπ παραπονέθηκαν φυσικά γι αυτό. μιλάμε για μια δραστήριοτητα με αερόστατα που στο Ίντερνετ την βρίσκεις με 50 ευρώ σε αυτή τη χώρα και εκείνος μας την πουλούσε 120. σε ολόκληρο γκρουπ! οταν άτομα παραπονέθηκαν γι αυτό είπε ότι δεν το γνωρίζει καθόλου αυτό κ ότι αν θελουμε να το κάνουμε μόνοι μας αλλά με δίκη μας ευθύνη να χάσουμε όλη μέρα την επόμενη εκδρομή κ ότι με αυτή τη τιμή το κλείνει αυτός γιατί συνεργάζεται με συγκεκριμένους ανθρώπους που ξέρει κάθε στιγμή που βρισκόμαστε. αφού λέμε ας είναι ας το καταπιούμε αυτό το παραμύθι μας κλείνει μια βόλτα με άμαξες στην τιμή των 15 ευρώ το άτομο. αφού έχουν προηγηθεί τα προηγούμενα παράπονα μας λέει από πριν ότι αυτό το βρίσκεις κ πέντε ευρώ αλλά με αυτούς που συνεργάζεται αποκλείεται να μας συμβεί κάποια στραβή κ μας ακολουθεί μηχανάκι κ ανα πάσα ώρα γνωρίζει που βρισκόμαστε κ είναι κ τα τιπς μέσα και τα σχετικά. κάνουμε την βόλτα με την άμαξα μην τα πολύλογω μας αφήνουν σε άλλο ποταμοπλοιο που δεν ήταν το δικό μας. 15 ανθρώποι μπήκαμε σε μια σειρά λάθος ποταμόπλοιων μέχρι να βρούμε μετά από μισή ώρα κ με βοήθεια ενός αγνώστου στο δρόμο ανθρωπου για να μας κατευθύνει στο σωστό ποταμόπλοιο. Στο ποταμόπλοιο ήταν ο ξεναγός ο οποίος έτρωγε αμέριμνος χωρίς να έχει καταλάβει ότι μια ομάδα ανθρώπων δεν έχει γυρίσει την ώρα που έπρεπε από την εκδρομή που τους είχε κανονίσει. που ήταν αυτός ο άνθρωπος δηλαδή που πληρώσαμε δέκα ευρώ το άτομο παραπάνω για να μας ακολουθεί κ να είναι σίγουρος ότι όλα είναι οκ;;;ποιος έδωσε τιπς στους αμαξιεριδες που όταν μας άφησαν στο λάθος ποταμόπλοιο μας ακολουθούσαν φωνάζοντας ότι δεν τους δώσαμε μπαξισι;;;φυσικά ολοι οι συμμετεχοντες παραπονέθηκαν γι αυτό κ στο τέλος μας επέστρεψε πέντε ευρώ το άτομο λόγο άπειρων παραπόνων. μιλάμε για κοροϊδία. επίσης κάτι άλλο που μας ενόχλησε ήταν ότι σε όλους τους χώρους που επισκεπτόμασταν είχαμε μετά ελεύθερο χρόνο το πολύ είκοσι λεπτά για φωτογραφίες κ να δούμε αν θέλαμε κάτι ή να ψωνίσουμε, ενώ όταν μας πήγαινε σε μέρη που είχε κανονίσει πχ να αγοράσουμε πάπυρους, ή βαμβακερά ή πέτρινα ομοιόματα κ αρώματα ο χρόνος ήταν απεριόριστος κ μπορεί να καθόμασταν εκεί παραπάνω από μια ώρα χωρίς βιασύνες για να ψωνισουν ολοι στα πανάκριβα και πολύ συγκεκριμένα καταστήματα που μας πήγαιναν ανάλογα τη μέρα. προφανώς λόγο συμφωνίας κ ποσοστού. Πολύ όμορφη εκδρομή κ οργάνωση αλλά μας άφησε μια απογοητευτική γεύση η όλη αντιμετώπιση. ΑΠΑΝΤΗΣΗ ΣΤΟ ΣΧΟΛΙΟ ΣΑΣ: Σας ευχαριστώ πολύ για την απάντηση, απλά να σας πω ότι στην εκδρομή με τις άμαξες δεν ήταν κανένας αρχηγοσ Κ κανένας ξεναγος μαζί μας. εαν ήταν ο αρχηγός της ομάδας δεν θα το συζητούσαμε κ ούτε θα είχαμε χαθεί. ο αρχηγός της ομάδας μας πήγε στις άμαξες κ μας άφησε κ έφυγε γιατί υποτίθεται θα μας παρέδιδαν έξω από το ποταμόπλοιο κάτι που δεν έγινε. δεν έγινε κ κάτι να παραδεχτείτε και κάτι …να είστε καλά

Πήγα σήμερα από versus για ένα ταξίδι μου. Πραγματικα βρήκα το ανθρώπινο και φιλικό πρόσωπο του versus Με εξυπηρέτησαν με τόν καλύτερο τρόπο ΣΑΣ ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΏ

Επιλέξαμε το γραφείο για το ταξίδι μας στο Μαρόκο! Η καλύτερη επιλογή που θα μπορούσαμε να είχαμε κάνει! Όλα οργανωμένα και χωρίς κανένα θέμα κατά την διάρκεια του ταξιδιού! Σίγουρα θα το επιλέξουμε και για τα επόμενα ταξίδια μας!

Οκτώβριος 9ήμερο ταξίδι εκτεταμένη Ανδαλουσία. Έχω ταξιδέψει κι άλλες φορές με versus travel και είχα μείνει πολύ ευχαρηστημένη. Πιστεύω ότι μεγάλο ρόλο παίζει ο καλός ξεναγός. Το πρόγραμμα μας μπορώ να πω ότι τηρήθηκε κατά 80% αφού λόγω κακοκαιρίας δεν μπορεσαμε να επισκεφτούμε 1 _ 2 αξιοθέατα. Η ξεναγός μας, όχι πως δεν είχε γνώσεις, ήταν πολύ απροσωπη. Σε σημείο που φοβόμασταν να ρωτήσουμε κάτι γιατί ήταν πολύ απότομη. Φυσικά αυτό που συναίβενε στα άλλα ταξίδια, όπου οι ξεναγοί με δική τους προωτοβουλία μας έδειχναν πολλά μέρη, ούτε καν. Με το που τέλειωνε το ωράριο της εξαφανιζόταν. Ενώ τα μέρη που επισκεφθήκαμε ήταν πανέμορφα η τόσο τυπική και απρόσωπη ξεναγός με χάλασε πολύ. Επίσης το πρόγραμμα είχε ημιδιατροφή. Στα 3 ξενοδοχεία το φαγητό ήταν απαράδεκτο. Θα ήταν προτιμότετο να ήταν πιο χαμηλή η τιμή του πακέτου και επέλεγε ο καθένας μόνος του το φαγητό του. Θα σκεφτώ πολύ πριν αποφασίσω ένα άλλο ταξίδι με το γραφείο σας.

Καλησπέρα από την Προσοτσάνη, ένα ταξίδι για την Ιορδανία, που ξεκίνησε με αρκετό άγχος, εξελίχθηκε σε ένα από τα καλύτερα μου, αυτό, πέρα από την ίδια την χώρα και τα αξιοθέατα της, οφείλετε και στους ανθρώπους που συμμετείχαν. Οι άνθρωποι ομορφαίνουν ένα ταξίδι και ήμασταν τυχεροί που χαρούμενοι ταξιδιώτες βρεθήκαμε στο ίδιο ταξίδι. Με τον Παναγιώτη, στον δρόμο της επιστροφής μας, το θέμα της συζήτησης μας ήσασταν όλοι εσείς που είχαμε την τύχη να γνωρίσουμε, ΕΛΠΊΖΩ να είστε όλοι καλά και ποιός ξέρει μπορεί οι δρόμοι μας να ξανασυναντηθούν. Ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ στην αρχηγό μας την Κυπαρισσία, στον Μωχάμετ και τον Χασάν.

Τ ταξιδι στη Κουβα μ αρχηγο τ Αλεξ Χριστοδουλου απογειωθηκε γιατι ειχαμε ενα ακουραστο αρχηγο εμπειρο μ απίστευτεσ γνωσεισ. Θ θελαμε ν μασ ενημερωνετε για τα ταξιδια που θ αναλαβει ο Αλεξ στο απωτερο μελλον γ ν μπορεσουμε ν τον ακολουθησουμε!

Η Ιαπωνία ήταν ένα από τα όνειρά μου. Ο Μάρτιος, που την επισκέφθηκα, της πάει πολύ καθώς όλες οι κερασιές είναι ανθισμένες και την ντύνει στις αποχρώσεις του ροζ. Μοναδικά όμορφη χώρα και η κουλτούρα της την κάνει ακαταμάχητη. Άνετα θα την ξανά επισκεπτόμουν στο μέλλον.

Ενθουσιάστηκα από το ταξίδι στη Β. Ταϊλάνδη – Μπανγκόκ, είδαμε πως είναι η επαρχία και πως ζουν οι άνθρωποι εκεί και την σύγχρονη Μπανγκόκ. Έντονες αντιθέσεις, αλλά ξέρουν να κρατούν τον δικό τους χαρακτήρα.

Μείναμε οικογενειακως ευχαριστημένοι με την εκδρομη! Έχουμε δοκιμάσει και άλλα πρακτορεία αλλά το Versus έκανε την διαφορά. Η καλοκαιρινή Μάλτα ήταν φανταστική και το καταδιασκεδασαμε! Θα σας ξανάρθουμε για τον χειμωνα!

Πολύ όμορφο το ταξίδι στην Ταιλάνδη γεμάτο εικόνες και εμπειρίες. Η αρχηγός μας κάτι παραπάνω από άριστη! Σε ευχαριστούμε Μαρίνα!

Ταξιδέψαμε με τον άντρα μου 14 ημέρες στο Περου. (2022) Ηταν μια μοναδική εμπειρία και αυτό χάρη στον οδηγό μας, τον κο Απόστολο Μεταξα, ο οποίος είχε βαθειά γνώση της χώρας και των ιδιαιτεροτήτων της, έβρισκε λύσεις σε όλα τα θέματα που προέκυπταν ανα πάσα στιγμή, ήταν πάντα ευγενικός και χαμογελαστός και μας έκανε (σε ένα δύσκολο και απαιτητικό προορισμό σαν αυτόν) να αισθανόμαστε σιγουριά και ασφαλεια. Ευχαριστούμε το versus που μας εξασφαλίζει έμπειρους και άξιους οδηγούς, για τα εξαιρετικα ξενοδοχεία που επιλέγει κάθε φορά και φυσικά για την αξιοπιστία του. Μακάρι να συνεχίσετε έτσι!

Ταξίδεψα Νέα Υόρκη και εντυπωσιάστηκα με την οργάνωση του ταξιδιού. Όλα με κάθε λεπτομέρεια προσεγμένα. Οι άνθρωποι του versus πάντα εκεί να μας βοηθήσουν σε οποιαδήποτε απορία είχαμε. Πέρασα φανταστικά και εννοείται πως και στο επόμενο την οργάνωση θα την αναλάβει το Versus!

Το ταξίδι Ουαλία-Κορνουάλη έχει πολλά να δείξει αλλά όλα είναι στην Κορνουάλη. Η Ουαλία έχει μόνο δύο κάστρα. Από πλευράς τουριστικών αξιοθέατων δεν βλέπω τον λόγο που πετάξαμε στο Μάντσεστερ και κατεβήκαμε οδικώς την μισή Αγγλία για την Κορνουάλη. Εκτός από αυτό, η οργάνωση του ταξιδιού ήταν πολύ άσχημη: στο Tintagel, ένα θαυμάσιο παραθαλάσσιο χωριό με το άγαλμα του βασιλιά Αρθούρου πάνω σε έναν ψηλό λόφο μας άφησαν μόνο μιά ώρα ενώ θα είχαμε ευχαριστηθεί πάρα πολύ άν ήταν τρείς ώρες. Τήν προηγούμενη μέρα μας έδωσαν τρισήμιση ώρες για να δούμε ενα ιταλικό χωριό το οποιο ακριβοπληρωσαμε πού δεν είχε τίποτε από Κορνουάλη και άξιζε για μισή ώρα και τίποτε παραπάνω. Στο Bath, το πιό αξιοσημείωτο θέαμα είναι τα Ρωμαικά λουτρά για τα οποία δεν είχε γίνει κράτηση και χάσαμε δύο ώρες περιμένοντας. Μία άλλη περίπτωση είναι το Eden Project, ένα φυτώριο με τροπική και μεσογειακή βλάστηση όπου χάσαμε τρισήμιση ώρες και πληρώσαμε αδρά γι αυτό, το οποιο καμμια σχεση δεν εχει με Κορνουαλη. Η αρχηγος ηταν αρνητικη απ ολες τις αποψεις και η γενικη εντυπωση απο το ταξιδι ειναι οτι η Κορνουαλη ειναι πανεμορφη αλλα το ταξιδι ηταν αποτυχημενο

Εκδρομή Γερμανία Γαλλία πρωτοχρονιά 2022. Ότι ποιο ανοργάνωτο και αποτυχημένο. Ας ξεκινήσω με την πρώτη ανοργάνωτη κίνηση άλλο ξενοδοχείο μας είχαν πει και τελικά σε αλλο βρεθήκαμε. Το ξενοδοχείο που τελικά μας πέταξαν ειχε μόνο πρωινό που σημάνει αν ήθελες να φας κάτι το απόγευμα έπρεπε να βγεις εκτός και αν θα υπήρχε κάποιο μαγαζί ανοιχτό για να φας. Χωρίς να λάβουμε καμία ενημέρωση ότι τα μαγαζιά τις μέρες τις πρωτοχρονιάς θα είναι τα περισσότερα κλειστά. Δεύτερον ότι ποιο ανοργάνωτο το να μην είναι ενήμερο το γκρουπ και ο Ξεναγος από το γραφείο ότι την πρωτοχρονιά που μας έχουν ταξίδι στο Κάλμαρ όλα τα μαγαζιά είναι κλειστά λόγο εορτών και για 4 ώρες είμασταν πραγματικά χωρίς φαγητό. Πληρώσαμε 2.300 ευρώ για να μην ξέρουν που τους πάνε τα τέσσερα πολύ κακό γραφείο δεν το προτείνω σε κανένα χίλιες φορές να το είχα οργανώσει μόνος μου. ΑΠΑΡΑΔΕΚΤΟΙ ΤΟ ΛΙΓΟΤΕΡΟ.

Είναι από τα πιο ακριβά ταξιδιωτικά γραφεία της Αθήνας αλλά ότι σου λέει, το κάνει πραγματικότητα. Δεν υπάρχουν κρυφές χρεώσεις σε καμία τους εκδρομή σε σχέση με τα άλλα πρακτορεία που έχουν. Έχω πήγα (2019) Πρωτοχρονιά στο Μόναχο με την αδερφή μου και περάσαμε υπέροχα. Το ξενοδοχείο ήταν στο κέντρο του Μονάχου, κοντά στον πεζόδρομο με τα μαγαζιά. Ο αρχηγός μας ήταν πολύ καλός και ευγενικός. Σίγουρα θα ξανά προτιμήσω αυτό το γραφείο.

Πρώτη φορά Ασία και Βιετνάμ και έχω ξετρελαθεί! Η κουλτούρα, οι άνθρωποι, η φύση. απλά μοναδικά!

Αίγυπτος Πρωτοχρονιά Ποστ νο1 Λοιπόν έχουμε επιστρέψει εδώ και λίγες ημέρες από το εννιαήμερο οργανωμένο μας ταξίδι στην Αίγυπτο από 30/12 έως 7/1. Σε πρώτη απάντηση όπως φαίνεται και από τα αστεράκια, είμαστε σχεδόν απόλυτα ικανοποιημένοι και φυσικά θα σύστηνα σε όσους δεν έχουν πάει σε αυτή την χώρα, να το αποφασίσουν γιατί κάθε ευρώ που θα δώσουν θα πιάσει τόπο. Η σύνοδος μας η κυρία Βάνια Παπαγεωργίου, έμπειρη στην διαχείριση των μεγάλων γκρουπ, ήταν πανταχού παρούσα για να λύσει, να εξυπηρετήσει, μικρά και μεγαλύτερα απρόοπτα, επιθυμίες, προβλήματα κλπ χωρίς να δείξει ούτε μια στιγμή εκνευρισμό, η έλλειψη αποτελεσματικότητας. Οπότε σε ένα γενικό βαθμό θα έβαζα σχεδόν άριστα και στην διοργάνωση της συγκεκριμένης, εκδρομής και στο γραφείο. Σε άλλη αξιολόγηση θα μιλήσω πιο αναλυτικά και θα επισημάνω μερικά σημεία που ίσως αν εισακουστούν, θα βελτιώσουν την επόμενη εκδρομή.

Ταξίδεψα Αλσατία - Χαιδελβέργη με Στρασβούργο και το προτείνω σε όλους! Τα πανέμορφα σπιτάκια, το φαγητό και ο τέλειος αρχηγός μας έκλεψαν την παράσταση!

Η Αλσατία απίστευτα παραμυθένια και κυρίως αυτή την περίοδο. Ευχαριστούμε τον αγαπημένο μας αρχηγό τον Άρη!

These similarities make it easy to know what to do and expect when you first visit a site. Typically, you enter your destinations, dates, and number of travelers. After you click search, you can further filter based on price range, airlines, and departure times for flights; amenities, hotel stars, and location for hotels; and type of car and rental car company for cars. 

So what makes one site better than another?

It all depends on your priorities and preferences. Everyone travels and plans for that travel differently. Here are seven travel sites and the factors you should consider when choosing a site. 

Booking.com

Booking.com is a huge bank of information, offering more than 1 million properties in 117,000 destinations in 225 countries and territories. Wherever you'd like to go, you'll find it through this site. It offers booking for flights,  hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars.  Clicking  restaurants will take you to OpenTable. 

Highlights:

I found their desktop homepage to be cluttered and a lot to look at compared to the homepages of other sites, but their app experience was noticeably simpler, which makes sense as travelers increasingly turn mobile. 

One feature on the homepage that stood out to me (shown above) was the "Are you traveling for work?" option. Clicking "Yes" will present popular business travel options like WiFi and breakfast.

Another feature was its flexible date suggestions if your chosen destination is a popular choice and accommodations are more than 50% reserved during your selected dates.

Best for: 

• Wide variety of options, including hostels, homestays, and bed and breakfasts
• Easy access to your plans and searches by syncing your account across your devices

While I'm partial to Yelp for food recommendations and believe it to be better for US destinations, TripAdvisor is much more widely used in the international community. 

TripAdvisor is the most experience-driven travel site. You are not just booking somewhere to live — you're signing up to experience and explore a destination.

Whether you're coordinating a reunion, wedding, or corporate event, a Group Travel Request is a good option. You can work with an agent on your travel needs.

Hotwire gives you all the filters and options you need but maintains the balance of not giving you too much. It keeps its sections simple, so you don't need to worry about something you may be missing out on. 

Thanks to partnerships with other travel sites like Hotels.com and Expedia, Hotwire can offer extremely low prices. There is also a free 24-hour cancellation policy on most flights. 

• Focused searchers who do not want to be distracted or overwhelmed by too many options, things to do, and city guides. Destination guides and inspiration can be found on a separate blog page.

Travelocity offers booking for  flights, hotels, vacation rentals, rental cars, cruises and things to do.  And no, you're not seeing double. Expedia owns Travelocity, which may explain why the two homepages look almost exactly the same. 

From what we can tell, the most noticeable difference is Travelocity's Roaming Gnome, which represents the inspiration and wanderlust of traveling. The "Inspiration" section contains interesting articles like "Best Foodie Finds in Airports Around the World" and themes like "Luxury" or "Romantic." Expedia's travel blog, on the other hand, is relegated to an easy-to-miss link near the bottom of the page.

Book a trip with Travelocity

Priceline offers booking for  flights, hotels, rental cars, and cruises.  

The " Express Deals " option rewards flexible travelers with up to 60% savings on hotels. The site will give you the location and star rating, but not the name of the hotel. You can still choose the bed type for many of the options. 

Another way to save is the Name Your Own Price feature where you input the location, star rating, and price bid for a hotel. 

For car rentals, you can also Name Your Own Price and bid for a car. If you don't have big preferences on the car brand, you'll be able to find a car for a price less than the search listings give you. For example, I was able to get an economy car with unlimited mileage for $30 a day, while the general search yielded cars that were all at least $37 a day. 

The cruise section is clear and easy to navigate. The search option is similar to searching for flights, with more dropdown selections than other sites. This feature is ideal for travelers who know exactly what they want for their cruise experience, and are not merely shopping around.

9 things to consider when choosing to book via a portal vs. booking directly

You can book directly through the website of an airline, hotel, rental car company or other travel provider. You can also use online travel agencies like Expedia or Skyscanner. And many banks offer their own portals, such as Capital One Travel and Chase Travel .

While there are some horror stories from cancellations associated with portals, booking with one linked to a credit card in your wallet can be an attractive option.

Consider asking yourself these nine questions to determine the best approach for planning your next trip. They will help you decide whether to book directly, use an online travel agency or utilize a credit card portal for your next vacation.

Will you forfeit status perks and status earnings?

When booking a hotel room through online travel agencies like Hotels.com or Expedia , you may not receive your stay credit from the hotel brand (e.g., Marriott Bonvoy ). Any nights that would typically contribute toward your status won't be counted.

Moreover, as a member with elite status, you often won't receive the usual perks during your stay — like free breakfast or room upgrades. This applies to all major hotel loyalty programs . Many hotels offer a best-price guarantee , allowing you to request a match to a better price you find elsewhere, even if it's on an online travel agency. With this guarantee, you can enjoy loyalty benefits without spending more than necessary.

The decision becomes less straightforward if you want to leverage perks that require booking through a credit card travel portal — which can include bonus rewards or statement credits. You must prioritize what matters most: receiving elite perks and night credits or earning more credit card points and benefiting from automatic discounts for your stay.

However, it's worth noting that flights booked through third-party sites generally qualify as ordinary revenue tickets and are thus eligible to earn points or miles in the given airline's loyalty program. However, be sure to read the terms carefully to avoid booking restrictive basic economy fares .

Do you have travel credits you can use from your credit card?

Several credit cards offer travel credits on your statements when you book through their travel portals.

For example, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees ) offers $300 in annual credits when you reserve flights, hotels and rental cars through the Capital One Travel portal .

Similarly, anyone with The Platinum Card® from American Express can enjoy various benefits of the Amex Platinum , including an annual hotel credit worth up to $200 for prepaid reservations at Fine Hotels + Resorts properties or The Hotel Collection (the latter of which requires a two-night minimum). The perk is issued as a statement credit to your account. Like the Capital One credit, the only way to receive the Amex credit is to book an eligible stay through the American Express Travel portal .

Those with a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card also receive a comparable credit for hotel reservations, though it's significantly lower at $50 per year. Simply book through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal to have the annual credit appear on your account.

If you have a travel credit you have yet to use, take advantage of it before it expires. But carefully consider its rules to ensure your booking qualifies for reimbursement.

What will cost you the fewest points?

If you have accumulated enough points in credit card portals like American Express Membership Rewards or Citi ThankYou points , you should carefully consider which redemption option will require the fewest points for your upcoming trip.

Sometimes, transferring your points to a partner program and booking through their website may be the most cost-effective option.

On the other hand, it may be cheaper in some situations to keep your points in your credit card account and use them through the card's travel portal. This is especially true for hotels, as transferring points to a partner hotel loyalty program may provide less value than redeeming them directly through your credit card issuer.

This can also make sense for boutique properties that don't participate in a loyalty program.

Always compare both redemption options before transferring your points to ensure that you get the best value .

What will get you the most points on your credit card?

Regarding travel expenses, you should consider which credit card offers the best rewards for each purchase .

For instance, the Capital One Venture X (see rates and fees ) card provides 10 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. Additionally, you earn 5 miles per dollar spent on flights booked this way. Comparing these rates to the 2 miles per dollar earned on purchases made outside the Capital One Travel portal, it's clear which option is more advantageous.

Chase follows a similar pattern. If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve and book through the Ultimate Rewards portal, you will earn 10 points per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars and 5 points on flights. These rates are significantly better than the 3 points per dollar earned on travel booked through other methods.

The Amex Platinum card presents a more drastic example. It offers 5 points per dollar for prepaid hotels booked through the Amex Travel portal. You also receive 5 points per dollar spent on flights booked directly with an airline or through Amex Travel (up to $500,000 in flights per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar spent). However, for hotel reservations booked directly with a hotel, you only earn 1 point per dollar spent. While you can choose either option for airfare, booking hotel stays through Amex Travel is best to maximize your earnings — though again, you'll likely give up the opportunity to earn hotel points by doing so.

Do you have to choose between rental car loyalty perks and a better price?

Online travel agencies and portals are popular because they offer convenience. You can visit a single website and compare results from various rental car companies.

However, there is a trade-off to consider.

When you see a lower price on an online travel agency or credit card portal than a rental car website, you usually won't receive any elite benefits associated with a rental car loyalty program . This is because most online travel agencies and credit card portals do not provide an option to add your rental car loyalty number to the reservation (though there are exceptions ). Even if they do, the rental agency often doesn't honor the associated benefits, such as skipping the line during car pickup.

In such situations, you must decide whether booking the lower price or receiving perks is more important. Ultimately, the decision may come down to the price difference.

Will the hotel give preference to guests who booked directly?

In short: Possibly. You may not receive the same perks when booking a hotel through a third-party website instead of directly with the hotel.

For example, a TPG staffer faced this issue while staying at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort in Orlando. He booked through the Capital One Travel portal to earn miles with his Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees ). However, this meant he couldn't use the mobile check-in feature and had to wait in a long line at check-in. Additionally, he was assigned a less desirable room near noisy areas like the service elevators and housekeeping storage.

If you're not a light sleeper or prefer in-person check-in, these drawbacks may not be significant concerns. Nevertheless, it's worth considering these factors when deciding how to make your hotel booking.

Can you get free perks from hotels booked via a portal?

Why not add free perks to the deal if you're paying cash for a hotel?

With American Express, you can enjoy extras by booking through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection . However, you will not get these benefits if you book directly with the hotel.

Capital One and Chase offer similar programs through the Capital One Premier Collection , Capital One Lifestyle Collection and Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection . When you book with these programs, you can expect to receive perks that could include free breakfast, a welcome gift or space-available room upgrades.

Will you get free nights added to a hotel booking?

Adding free nights to your hotel reservation could be a huge differentiator.

For example, the Citi Prestige® Card offers a fourth-night-free benefit . But there are some restrictions and nuances to using this benefit. There's a limit of two uses per year and you must book through Citi ThankYou Rewards to receive it.

Likewise, you can get a fourth or fifth night free when redeeming select types of hotel points for award stays — which could lead you to book directly with a hotel program.

What if something goes wrong with your flights?

Unlike rental car and hotel reservations made through portals and online travel agencies, flights booked outside airline websites will still earn you miles and frequent flyer status credits.

This is good news, but it gets even better when you realize you can stack rewards by booking flights through online travel agencies . This means you can earn points on your credit card, miles from flying, shopping portal bonuses and rewards from the loyalty programs of online travel agencies .

However, there is a potential issue to consider if unexpected problems arise before or during your trip.

When you book directly with an airline and your flight gets canceled, you can deal with the carrier directly. They will reimburse or rebook you based on their change or cancellation policy . However, this may not be the case for portals and online travel agency bookings.

If the airline cancels your flight due to bad weather, they may instruct you to purchase new tickets for a later flight through your credit card portal or the online travel agency you booked with. If you have a schedule change or want to adjust your reservation, you often need to go back to the third-party site for support instead of contacting the airline directly. This can be a significant drawback when booking flights through a third-party option, particularly if your trip carries a high risk of weather-related issues or you think there's a possibility that you'll need to change (or cancel) your trip.
