'1,000-lb Sisters' star arrested at Tennessee zoo on drug possession, child endangerment charges
Reality TV star Amy Slaton Halterman was arrested on Labor Day at a Tennessee zoo on drug and child endangerment charges.
Halterman, 36, who stars along with her sister in TLC’s “1,000-lb Sisters,” was charged with illegal possession of Schedule I, illegal possession of Schedule VI, and two counts of child endangerment on Monday, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies had responded to a call regarding a guest allegedly bitten by a camel at Tennessee Safari Park, a drive and walk through zoo, in Alamo.
When deputies arrived they were “immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities did not disclose what the cause of the smell was, but said Halterman and Brian Scott Lovvorn were in the vehicle and both were hit with the same charges.
They were booked into the Crockett County Jail. A judge on Tuesday set bond at $10,000 for each of them.
Halterman has two kids, Gage Deon Halterman, 4, and Glenn Allen Halterman, 2, with Michael Halterman, who filed for divorce in March 2023, People Magazine reports.
It’s not clear who was bitten by the camel or if Halterman's children were with her at the time of the incident.
“1,000-lb Sisters” first aired on TLC in 2020 and follows the story of two Kentucky sisters — Halterman and her elder sister Tammy — on their weight loss journeys.

Reality TV performer arrested on drug, child endangerment charges at Tennessee zoo
ALAMO, Tenn. -- A woman who appeared on the reality TV show "1,000-Lb. Sisters" was arrested at a Tennessee zoo and charged with possessing drugs and child endangerment, authorities said Tuesday.
Amy Slaton Halterman was arrested Monday at the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo along with Brian Scott Lovvorn after deputies found marijuana and what appeared to be illegal mushrooms in a car they were sitting in, said Stephen Sutton, a public information officer for the Crockett County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies went to the West Tennessee zoo after receiving a call that a visitor may have been bitten by a camel, according to a sheriff's department statement. Deputies went to the visitor's car and smelled "suspicious odors" coming from the vehicle, the sheriff's department said.
Along with the drugs, two children were also found in the car, Sutton said. It was not immediately clear whose children they were. They have been released into the custody of family.
Halterman was taken to a hospital for treatment for an injury to her arm that may have been caused by the camel, Sutton said. She and Lovvorn were then booked in jail.
A general sessions court clerk said the court did not have information about whether Halterman or Lovvorn had lawyers to speak on their behalf about the charges.
The zoo is located about 80 miles (128 kilometers) northeast of Memphis.

Amy Slaton Halterman, of TLC’s ’1000-lb Sisters,’ arrested at Tennessee Safari Park
‘i’m sorry for everything’: reality star thanks fans for support following arrest at safari park.
ALAMO, Tenn. (WMC) - Amy Slaton Halterman of TLC’s “1000-lb Sisters” was arrested at the Tennessee Safari Park on Labor Day after a camel bite reportedly led to a drug bust inside the reality star’s vehicle.
Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce says that deputies were called to the park in Alamo, Tennessee, on Monday after Halterman was bitten by one of the park’s camels.
Upon arriving at Halterman’s vehicle, deputies “were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors” coming from the car, which sat her, Brian Scott Lovvorn, and two children.
“After some discussion... they ended up searching the vehicle and they found 2 ounces of marijuana and what we believe to be mushrooms, which is Schedule I,” said Klyce.
Both Halterman and Lovvorn face charges of Schedule I and Schedule VI substance possession and two counts of child endangerment.
Law enforcement said two kids under the age of 10 were in the car when the drugs were found. They are now with a family member while the Department of Human Services investigates the incident.
Crockett County General Sessions Judge Paul Conley set the bond for Halterman and Lovvorn at $10,000 each on Tuesday.
Both were released after bonding out Tuesday afternoon. Halterman told Action News 5 she is doing fine right now.
“I just got bit, that’s all I know,” she said.
The reality star went on to say that she loves her fans for supporting her during this time.
“Thank you, and I’m sorry for everything,” Halterman said.
Back at the Tennessee Safari Park, the co-owner says he doesn’t believe the injury she sustained came from a camel bite.
“We looked at the bite and it didn’t look like a camel bite to me,” said Claude Conley. “It was just on the top of the arm and if a camel bit, it would kind of bite down on there, and we don’t think the customers were in their right mind at that time.”
Conley showed Action News 5 a picture of the suspected bite. The photo shown was of a very deep but small circular wound. Conley said the wound would have been larger if it was caused by a camel.
Sheriff Kylce said the Schedule VI drug charge both Halterman and Lovvorn face is very serious, especially when children are involved.
“It’s a pretty serious crime. It’s one thing to have drugs in the vehicle and it’s another thing to have children in there when you do it,” he said.
The two are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, September 5, in Crockett County General Sessions Court.

‘1000-lb. sisters’ star amy slaton arrested at zoo on drug and child endangerment charges.
“1,000-Lb. Sisters” star Amy Slaton was arrested at a Tennessee zoo Monday and charged with drug possession and child endangerment.
Deputies were “immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle” at Tennessee Safari Park while responding to a call about a zoo-goer being bitten by a camel, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department wrote on Facebook .
The reality star, 36, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of schedule I and schedule VI drugs and two counts of child endangerment, authorities confirmed.
A man who was with Slaton inside the vehicle, Brian Scott Lovvorn, was also arrested on the same charges.
“Both subjects have been booked into the Crockett County Jail,” the sheriff’s department said.
“The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence.”
Cops released a mugshot of Slaton wearing an orange jumpsuit and looking worse for wear.
Police also shared Lovvorn’s mugshot in the Facebook post.
The news comes after Slaton finalized her divorce from her ex-husband, Michael Halterman, in September 2023.

Breaking news, ‘1000-lb sisters’ amy slaton leaves zoo on stretcher after camel bite that triggered drug arrest.
“1000-Lb Sisters” star Amy Slaton was transported from a Tennessee zoo on Monday, September 2, after allegedly being bitten by a camel.
The reality TV personality, 36, was seen on a stretcher leaving the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, Tennessee, in a photo obtained by TMZ .
The pic shows Slaton with what appears to be a makeshift bandage fashioned from a piece of fabric or clothing just beneath her right elbow after allegedly being bitten by a camel at the zoo.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to TMZ, Slaton was seen walking around the zoo’s parking lot with a shirt wrapped around her arm before EMS arrived at the scene to treat her.
As if a camel bite wasn’t bad enough, Slaton was arrested shortly after receiving medical attention when local sheriffs allegedly found psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in her car. According to TMZ, the illicit substances were in plain sight for officers to find.
The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department commented on the incident in a statement posted to Facebook on Monday, saying, “It was no ordinary Labor Day in Crockett County.”
“Deputies were requested to respond to Safari Park where a guest allegedly was bitten by a camel,” the statement read.
“Upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle.”
Slaton was booked for illegal possession of Schedule I and Schedule VI drugs and two counts of child endangerment.
Law enforcement told TMZ that the child endangerment charge was leveled against her because two kids were in the car with her when officers arrived at the scene and allegedly found the drugs.
Slaton wasn’t the only one arrested, however. A man in the car with her, Brian Scott Lovvorn, was arrested on the same charges. The pair were booked into the Crockett County Jail after Slaton was discharged from the hospital.
Slaton shares two sons with her ex-husband, Michael Halterman – three-year-old Gage and two-year-old Glenn. It is not known at this time whether Gage and Glenn were the two children with her in the car at the Safari Park.
Slaton’s ex had previously requested a restraining order against the TV star back in March 2023, when he filed for divorce . The divorce was finalized in September 2023.
As far as the camel bite goes, one of the owners of the Tennessee Safari Park — which has a drive-through and a standard walk-through zoo — contested Slaton’s allegation that she was bit by a camel at the venue.
Speaking with TMZ, Jon Conley insisted that the TLC star could not have been bitten by one of the park’s camels. Conley believes that Slaton’s injury was above the elbow and “not indicative of a camel bite, because the skin is fileted open and there’s no bruised tissue.”
Conley went on to say that of the thousands of guests the zoo draws each year, no one has ever been bitten by a camel before. He also said that the zoo hasn’t found any surveillance footage showing the alleged camel attack, and claimed Slaton was unable to identify where in the park she was supposedly bitten.
