The Best Hostels In Dublin: 8 Worth Considering In 2024

I’ve slept in a lot of different hostels in Dublin City Centre over the years. Some have been great. And others have been absolutely terrible .

In this guide, I’m going to show you the best hostels in Dublin, based on my own personal experiences, most of which have been pretty good.

You’ll find review scores, prices and everything else you need to know about each hostel, each of which is accurate at the time of typing.

Table of Contents

Some quick need-to-knows before booking into any of the hostels in Dublin

Note: if you book a stay through one of the links below we  may make a tiny commission that helps us keep this site going. You won’t pay extra, but we really do appreciate it.

1. Location matters. A lot!

Dublin is a very walkable city, however, if you’re only here for a few days and you’re looking to keep costs as low as possible, being central matters. Although many Dublin hostels are central, others are a good walk from the heart of the city, so check the location first.

2. Be  very  clear on the room type

Hostels in Dublin are the same as you’d find anywhere in the world, and each comes with many different room types. If you’re booking online, be  very  clear that the room type you’re booking is what you’re comfortable with, as you may not be able to change when you arrive.

3. Take ‘party hostels’ with a pinch of salt

So, I get annoyed when reading Dublin hostel guides by people that don’t live here, as they’ll often say that there are clear party hostels in Dublin, but that just isn’t the case.  Some  hostels host drink nights, but they tend to be rare. You could just as easily encounter a rowdy crowd in a ‘quiet’ hostel and you could in a so-called ‘party hostel’.

4.  Some  hostels are as expensive as a B&B

When deciding where to stay in Dublin on a budget, don’t immediately assume hostels are the cheapest option. Often, you’ll find that  some (not all!) B&Bs in Dublin will be just as reasonable, so make sure to browse before you book.

What  we  think are the best hostels in Dublin City Centre

Jacobs Inn Hostel Dublin

The first section of our Dublin hostels guide takes a look at our favourites – these are hostels that one or more of The Irish Road Trip Team have stayed in over the years.

Below, you’ll find everywhere from The Generator and Jacobs Inn to Abigail’s and some often overlooked cheap hostels in Dublin City Centre.

1. Generator Hostel Dublin

Based in Smithfield, The award-winning Generator Hostel is a handy stroll away from some of Dublin’s top tourist hotspots like the Guinness Storehouse , Trinity College and the  many  pubs in Temple Bar.

Boasting a cafe that’s home to one of the best burgers in Dublin and situated right next-door to the Jameson Distillery – The Generator won’t fail to disappoint.

The interior of this Dublin hostel is hard to beat, with funky decor, a bar, a banging breakfast menu, regular DJs and live bands, quizzes, movie nights and more.

Some need to knows

  • Location: Smithfield
  • Booking.com review score: 8/10 from 3,267 reviews
  • Room types: Mixed Dorm, Family Room for 4, Private 4 Bedroom, Quadruple Room with Shared Bathroom, Deluxe Twin and Deluxe King Room
  • Breakfast: Available for €7.50

2. Abigail’s Hostel

Abigail's

Our next Dublin hostel is a world away from The Generator in terms of appearance, but it’s location is hard to beat.

Less than a minute away from Temple Bar , Abigail’s is one of the more popular hostels in Dublin City, mainly thanks to it’s location.

The bedrooms in Abigail’s Hostel look reasonably dated, but many are nice and bright, and they have private and dorm rooms on offer.

  • Location: Aston Quay near Temple Bar
  • Booking.com review score: 8.1/10 from 2,301 reviews
  • Room types: Twin Room en suite, Double Room En suite and Dorm Rooms
  • Breakfast: From what I can tell, there’s a basic breakfast included (but make sure to confirm before you book)

3. Jacobs Inn Hostel

You’ll find Jacobs Inn at Talbot Place, a handy 5-minute stroll from the EPIC Museum and a 15-minute walk from Trinity College .

Jacobs Inn is arguably one of the most unique hostels Dublin has to offer, as you can see from the photos above.

Here, it’s all about pod-life, with each room, regardless of whether it’s a dorm or a private room, boasting it’s very own pods for you to kip in.

I’ve never stayed in a place like this, personally but, as you’ll see from the review score below, this is arguably the best hostel Dublin has to offer.

  • Location: Talbot Place
  • Booking.com review score: 8.5/10 from 4,545 reviews
  • Room types: 6-Pod Private room, 4-Pod Private room, Deluxe Twin Room and multiple different Pod Dorms
  • Breakfast: €6 extra

4. Gardiner House

Gardiner House dublin

You’ll find our next Dublin hostel, Gardiner House, a 15-minute walk from O’Connell Street . Now, personally, I’d go from the 3 hostels mentioned previously over this one, if it came to location.

It’s not that it’s far out, it’s just that, having lived in Dublin for many years, I wouldn’t be a big fan of the area around Gardiner Street, but maybe that’s just me.

Review wise, Gardiner House is flying, and the rooms are lovely and bright, too, which makes a change. If you’re looking for cheap hostels in Dublin City, this is a solid option.

  • Location: Gardiner Street
  • Booking.com review score: 8.5/10 from 2,120 reviews
  • Room types: Double Room with Private Bathroom, Twin Room with Shared Bathroom, Double Room with Shared Bathroom and numerous Dorm Rooms
  • Breakfast: Included

Other popular Dublin hostels with good reviews online

Now that we have what  we  think are the best hostels in Dublin City out of the way, it’s time to see what else the capital has to offer.

Below, you’ll find everywhere from the very popular Abbey Court and the finely located Garden Lane Backpackers to Kinlay Hostel Dublin and more.

1. Ashfield Hostel Dublin

Ashfield Hostel

Ashfield is another Dublin hostel with an enviable view, and you’ll find it a 5-minute walk from the Book of Kells and under a 10-minute ramble from Grafton Street .

When compared with some of the hostels above, the rooms at Ashfield are pretty dated, but the reviews say that they’re clean and perfect for a short stay.

If you’re looking to visit the  many  pubs in Dublin during your visit, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s no curfew here. There’s also a kitchen, luggage storage and common areas.

  • Location: D’Olier Street
  • Booking.com review score: 8/10 from 1,336 reviews
  • Room types: 3 Bed Private Room Ensuite, Twin room private Ensuite, Double Room Private Ensuite and multiple Dorm Rooms

2. Abbey Court

abbey court

The Abbey Court is another hostel in Dublin City Centre that boasts premises just feet from the action – literally!

Situated on Bachelors Walk right beside the River Liffey, this hostel is located a cool 30 seconds from Dublin’s historic O’Connell Street.

They also run a free walking tour of Dublin each morning (make sure to check whether it’s still running), which is pretty decent, along with a free to join Dublin pub crawl on certain evenings.

  • Location: Bachelors Walk
  • Booking.com review score: 8.3/10 from ‎4,453 reviews
  • Room types: Standard Double Bed Private Ensuite and multiple Dorm Rooms
  • Breakfast: None

3. Garden Lane Backpackers

Garden Lane Backpackers

Another handy option for those of you in search of cheap hostels in Dublin City Centre, Garden Lane Backpackers is finely located just 600m from St Patrick’s Cathedral .

Although the rooms here are no-fuss, they’re nice and bright, with plenty of daylight pouring in through the windows.

You’ll find a continental breakfast served up each morning and plenty of communal space to kick-back in during your stay.

  • Location: Christchurch
  • Booking.com review score: 8.5/10 from 726 reviews
  • Room types: Standard Twin Room with Shared Bathroom and multiple Dorm Rooms

4. Kinlay Hostel Dublin

Kinlay House

Kinlay House is another one on the list that proudly calls the busy Temple Bar district home. Similar to some of the Dublin hostels above, Kinlays’ biggest draw is its location.

That being said, if you’ve ever stayed in one of the other Kinlay hostels in Ireland (the one in Galway is excellent), you’ll know they’re well run and reliable.

The rooms here are again, fairly dated looking but if you’re just using it as a base while visiting the various Dublin attractions , that won’t matter to you.

  • Location: Lord Edward Street
  • Booking.com review score: 7.4/10 from 2,750 reviews
  • Room types: Classic Quadruple Room, Twin Room en suite, Twin Room with Shared Bathroom and multiple Dorm Rooms
  • Breakfast: Continental breakfast included

The 8 Best Hostels in Dublin

Best Hostels in Dublin Jacobs Inn

Choosing a hostel in Dublin that suits your needs during your stay in Dublin can be a difficult task. My guide to the best hostels in Dublin will assist you with this.

Dublin, a city woven with history, buzzing streets, and an undeniably welcoming spirit, is a dream destination for many. There are so many awesome things to do in Dublin but for the savvy traveller, the magic of Dublin isn't just in its famous landmarks and lively pubs ; it's also in finding the perfect place to stay.

Quick Introduction to Hostels in Dublin

Dublin has some outstanding hostels which are among the best hostels in Europe . According to Hostelworld, Dublin has only 18 hostels. We have it down to the 8 best hostels in Dublin. Dublin also has different types of hostels and some of the large European  hostel chains  have a location in Dublin.

Here are a few things you should consider before booking a hostel in Dublin:

Price -  In bed in a dorm room starts at €15 per night (normally in large dorm rooms), but expect to pay between €30 to €50 per night in a medium-sized dorm room (6 to 8 beds). Cheaper hostels generally have poor reviews, but some highly rated hostels are also cheap. Please note that during the Summer months and the week around St Patrick's Day hostels in Dublin are very expensive. Also during the Summer months prices at the weekend can be up to 60% more expensive than on weekdays.

Location -  Dublin is a middle-sized city but it's best to stay in a central location close to the top sights and nightlife. (All hostels listed below are in central locations.)

Amenities/Services - Every hostel in Dublin offers free Wi-Fi and a few hostels include breakfast in the price, but if you want more specific services be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs.

Staff - Most hostels in Dublin have excellent staff. They are normally very friendly and will give you some great tips on restaurants, bars and clubs etc. But my advice is to read reviews to make sure the hostel you choose has friendly and helpful staff because rude or unhelpful staff could ruin your hostel experience.

I never go on a trip without it as I’ve had to use it many times in the past. My favorite companies that offer the best service and value are:

  • Safety Wing (best for everyone)

Close to Grafton Street lie Ashfield and Kinlay House, with Oliver St John Gogarty’s and Abigail’s perfect for exploring Temple Bar. Old favourites like Gardiner Place, Abbey Court and Garden Lane Backpackers, close to St Patrick’s Cathedral can be relied on for clean and affordable central accommodation. If you’d prefer something out of town, and by the sea, Mulgrave Lodge in Dun Laoghaire is a remodelled Victorian-building with DART access taking you straight to the city centre in 20 minutes.

The best hostels in dublin | the backpacker’s guide to dublin’s hostels.

Our picks for the best hostels in Dublin. The best places to stay when traveling on a budget.

dublin tourism hostels

Dublin is one of the most popular destinations in Europe but it’s not known for having many great hostels so you need to act quickly to ensure you’re able to book a good hostel. So, to help make your hostel search easier, I’ve created The Savvy Backpacker’s guide to the best hostels in Dublin based on price, overall quality, and atmosphere.

Average Dublin Hostel Prices

dublin tourism hostels

Dublin hostels tend to be affordable during the week and then expensive on the weekend—a common issue in small cities that have a lot of nightlife.

A well-rated hostel can be as cheap as €20-€30 during the week and then that same bed can be €40+ on a Friday or Saturday night (some are even €65+/night!). On average, a well-rated hostel will cost about €30-€40/night but do check the daily price breakdown.

Hostel prices are constantly fluctuating so I recommend checking Hostelworld  to get exact prices for your dates.

Quick Facts About Hostels in Dublin

dublin tourism hostels

Cheap Beds & Good Hostels in Dublin Go Early

The best-rated hostels and the cheapest hostels in Dublin are often booked well in advance—especially in the summer and on weekends. If there is a hostel you really like I recommend booking it early.

Check The Location

Dublin is a small city so just about every hostel should be fairly central. There might be a few outliers but it’s unlikely any hostel in Dublin would be in an undesirable location.

Party Hostels

Dublin has a great nightlife scene so that means there are a few “party” hostels in Dublin—which you may or may not want.

Check the review section of Hostelworld to get a better idea of the hostel’s vibe.

Check-In Times and Cleaning Times

Many hostels in Dublin have late check-in times (around 2 pm-4 pm) but nearly all will let you store your bags if you arrive before check-in—I recommend bringing your own padlock for a locker. Other hostels might have a period during the early afternoon when you’re not allowed to be in your room so the staff can clean.

Age Restrictions

Some hostels cater to families and school groups — so book an 18+ hostel if you don’t want to be surrounded by a bunch of middle school kids. Also, family-friendly hostels tend to attract an older crowd so you probably won’t find the typical “backpacker” experience in these places (but you might find more peace and quiet).

HOW I RANK THE HOSTELS

  • Overall Quality:  I take a holistic look at the hostel to see the positives and negatives. My goal is to find amazing hostels that are still affordable.
  • Location:  Most hostels listed in this guide will be centrally located (but I’ll make a note if it isn’t)
  • Price:  I try to filter out the super-expensive hostels to help find the best price-to-quality ratio.
  • Vibe/Atmosphere:  Every hostel has a personality. Some are party hostels and some are quiet. We try to note the atmosphere so you can find a place to stay that matches your travel style. Take a look at the reviews to get a better idea of the hostel’s vibe.
  • Past Guest Reviews:  Every guest has a different experience so we look at the good and the bad. We suggest you take a few minutes to read prior reviews.

We encourage you to check out  Hostelworld  to do a bit of searching for yourself.

NOTE: All prices listed below are the cheapest option available during the busy (i.e. expensive) season. Prices will often be 20% cheaper during the slower seasons.

Jacobs Inn also organizes tours and pub crawls every night. That said, it’s not the most social hostel and it does attract everyone from families and high-school groups to older travelers and backpackers.

First of all, they cater to backpackers so it’s a very lively and social atmosphere — solo travelers won’t have a problem meeting people. It’s clean, the staff is great, it has free breakfast and a kitchen, and they have a nightly pub crawl and walking tours. It’s located in the very center of the city so it’s only 2 minutes from Temple Bar.

Barnacles Temple Bar House has a lot of stuff going for it — it’s located in Temple Bar, their staff is super friendly, it has free breakfast, city tours, and pub crawls. We also like that it has a kitchen and chill-out areas so it’s easy to meet other travelers.

The hostel can be a bit loud at night (that’s what happens when you stay in the Temple Bar neighborhood) so keep that in mind.

  • €26-€33 during the week

dublin tourism hostels

The Gardiner House is another solid hostel that’s new to the Dublin Hostel scene. It’s built inside a 200-year-old convent and it’s complete with a Victorian chapel.

It’s super centrally located and affordable. The staff is great and the atmosphere is good. A light breakfast is included, there are free walking tours, and there’s a kitchen.

  • €16-€24 during the week
  • €38 on the weekend

Kinlay House Dublin Hostel

Best Dublin Hostel - Kinlay House Hostel

Kinlay House Dublin gets good reviews and is a bit of a party hostel — probably because it has its own pub and it’s located near Temple Bar. There is a large common area, a fully-equipped kitchen, a large dining room, laundry facilities, and a free light breakfast. The cleanliness and overall facilities are about average but it’s also a fairly inexpensive hostel (at least during the week).

  • €14-€21 during the week
  • €35 on the weekend

Generator Hostel Dublin

Best Dublin Hostel - Generator

Generator Hostel Dublin is part of the Generator chain. This hostel is more like a boutique budget hostel than a hostel and it has a lot of amenities you won’t find in normal hostels. It’s clean, it has a nice bar, it’s in a decent location, and the beds are comfortable. I like to think of the Generator as a high-end hostel for travelers who value comfort.

Because of its size, Generator Hostel Dublin doesn’t always have a super social atmosphere (except for its great bar). Our main criticism is that the price is often jacked up to €60-€70/night on the weekend.

  • €25-€35 during the week
  • €65 on the weekend

Quick Introduction to Dublin Hostels

Average price for a bed : A bed in a dorm can be as cheap as 14€ per night up to 25€ per night . This is a rough average price per night just to give you an idea.

Prices always depend on season and holidays. Please always check exact rates on Hostelworld.com or Booking.com .

Check-In and Check Out : The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.

Hostel Location : All hostels mentioned in this article have a great location. In general, Dublin is really walk-able . It is not a big city like Paris or London. Therefore, I would not worry too much about it. That being said, hostels in the area of Temple Bar are popular.

Pub Crawl and Free Walking Tours : We highly recommend joining pub crawls for the nightlife as well as a free walking tour on your first day. This is a big thin in Dublin. Any hostel offers them or has a tour partner.

Discover the 40 Foot: Dublin’s Special Spot

If you’re backpacking in Dublin, you must visit a special spot called the 40 Foot. This is a place where people come to swim in the open sea. It’s located in a nice area called Sandycove, not far from the city. A long time ago, only men were allowed to swim here, but now everyone is welcome. It’s more than just a swimming spot; it’s a place where you can feel the true spirit of Dublin, meet friendly locals, and have a great time.

Getting to the 40 Foot is easy. If you are in Dublin city centre, take the DART train from any city station to the Sandycove & Glasthule station. The journey is quick, around 20-30 minutes. Once you get off the train, it’s just a short 10-minute walk to the 40 Foot. Follow the crowd or ask any local, and you’ll find your way to this hidden treasure.

Grab your swimming gear and head to the 40 Foot for a fun day of swimming and making new friends in a beautiful setting!

Dublin and Ireland as a country is not party of the United Kingdom, but Northern Ireland is.

The most famous bar in Dublin is the super popular “Temple Bar”. Now, everybody knows this bar or let’s say term.

Again, Temple Bar is a name of an area.

A very smart business guy or girl picked up this name and called his/ her bar: TEMPLE BAR.

Now this bar “Temple Bar” is a tourist magnet and maybe the most photographed sight in Dublin. Since we talk about a bar, remember you have the Guinness brewery right around the corner – it is right here in Dublin!

It is said (and we can confirm) that Guinness beer tastes different inside Ireland.

Certainly true, we think. Give it a try!

Last but not least : We recommend to join a Walking Tour at the beginning of your stay.

There are many free walking tours to pick from. Just go with the one your hostel teamed up with. All of the top hostels in Dublin we recommend work with a Free walking tour, just ask the reception desk for more information.

The BEST Cheap Hostels in Dublin for Budget Travellers [2024 EDITION]

Ahh Dublin, the capital city of Ireland and a popular tourist destination… for good reason! It’s known for its vibrant culture, historic architecture, lively nightlife and incredible museums. Did I also mention pubs!?

This might come as news to you but the Irish love a good night out and a proper bit of quality craic to go with it! In fact, a reliable source (google) tells me there are 772 pubs in Dublin! So enough for a cheeky wee weekend away I reckon!

But after a wild night out, you’ll be wanting somewhere decent to rest that spinning head of yours. The problem is, Dublin isn’t exactly know as a cheap city, and hostel prices are no exception. In fact, at peak times, it can be downright extortionate. (I’m looking at you St Patrick’s Day! – Yes, I did pay 50 quid for a bed in a 20 person dorm that evening!)

Luckily for you I’ve spent a fair few merry nights in old Dublin Town, test driving the best (and the worst) cheap hostels the city has to offer. See, I’ve put in the hard graft so you don’t have to and from that I’ve created this guide to the best cheap hostels in Dublin. Hopefully it will give you a good idea of what to expect and the ability to pick somewhere that perfectly fits your needs AND your budget!

So, without further ado, here’s 5 of my favourites covering everywhere from social hostels to chilled out zen spaces and everything in between! Let’s gooo!

Quick Answer: The Best Cheap Hostels in Dublin

When  backpacking Dublin , you’ll find all sorts of different hostels. From extreme-party to homely hostels, there are endless options. The main types you’ll find in Dublin are party hostels, digital nomad hostels, and youth hostels.

Booking a hostel is a great way to stretch your budget. Dublin is known to be an expensive location to travel to. Hostel prices are high here, but well worth the money. The one thing that makes hostels really stand out is the incredible social vibe. You can meet travellers from all over the world by sharing common spaces and staying in dorms – it’s a great way to make new friends.

Luckily, most hostels are focused on being very affordable while still offering a high value. The general rule is: the bigger the dorm, the cheaper the nightly rate. If you go for a private hostel room, you’ll end up paying a bit more, but it’s still more affordable than Dublin’s hotels. I did some research and listed the average price that you can expect for a hostel in Dublin.

  • Private Rooms:  50-230€
  • Dorms (mixed or female only):  20-45€

When looking for a hostel, you’ll find most Dublin hostels on  HOSTELWORLD . There you can check out photos, detailed information about the place and even reviews from previous guests. Just like other booking platforms, each hostel will have a rating, so you can easily pick out the hidden gems! In general, most hostels can be found near the city centre, in the heart and soul of  all the cool attractions  like Temple Bar and O’Connell Street. To find the best hostels in Dublin, check out these three neighbourhoods:

  • City Centre  – My pick for where to stay in Dublin you’re visiting for the first time. Packed with shops and boutiques, parks, pubs and clubs.
  • Trinity  – Home to the world-renowned Trinity College Dublin, this neighbourhood is brimming with historic buildings and iconic architecture.
  • Temple Bar  – Temple Bar is far and away the most famous neighbourhood in Dublin and my pick for where to stay for Dublin nightlife area.
  • Phibsborough  – Tucked away north of the city centre is Phibsborough, one of Dublin’s up-and-coming and coolest neighbourhoods.
  • Portobello  – Portobello is a trendy and cosmopolitan city suburb located south of Dublin’s city centre.

You see that it’s important to find out  where to stay in Dublin   before you book your hostel. Do your research beforehand and have an even better trip!

Now you know what to expect from hostels in Dublin, let’s waste no time and crack on with my recommendation of the 5 BEST Cheap Hostels in Dublin, for any type of traveller.

Ashfield Cheap Hostel Dublin City reception.

Ashfield Hostel is a classic backpackers hostel. It’s not boutique or fancy in any way, but it’s fun, friendly, and one of the cheapest hostels in Dublin, Ireland. Here, you’ll find a welcoming place to stay in the city that offers great value for money.

You’ll get all sorts of travellers here: backpackers, solo travellers, couples, and groups on their school holidays. It’s not a raving party hostel as a result, and you may find yourself staying with older travellers or university students. It’s one of the best hostels for those wanting a pretty chill time.

This budget hostel in Dublin may be basic, but you’ll get a clean room with a comfy bed, space to stash your gear, warm showers, and social spaces. There’s also a free breakfast served up each morning, saving you even more pennies.

Where is Ashfield Hostel?

This place claims to be the most central hostel in Dublin and to be fair, it seems that way. It’s situated right in the city centre between Trinity College and O’Connell Street ; that means Temple Bar and all its nightlife and culture are just a minute’s walk from the hostel. Nearby are bus stops that easily connect you to Dublin Airport, the ferry terminal, Heuston Station , and much more importantly… the Guinness Storehouse .

There are a fair few rooms to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. Here are the dorm options:

  • Female dorm

And now for the private rooms:

  • Twin room private ensuite
  • Double bed private ensuite
  • Three-bed private ensuite

Prices here are from $30 per night.

Ashfield Hostel common area.

Any extras?

This may be one of Dublin’s budget hostels, but it’s more than just a cheap place to stay for the night. There are also additional perks that help you save money on your trip. These include:

  • Communal kitchen
  • Board games
  • 24-hour reception
  • Buffet breakfast (free)
  • Security lockers
  • Book exchange
  • Luggage storage

There are also a few free events to join in if you feel like being sociable, including…

  • Daily free walking tours of Dublin

It’s not a fancy hostel, but if you don’t mind a no-frills stay in Dublin, this place will do just fine. Ashfield Hostel is a classic backpacker-y hostel; it can be a bit noisy, but it’s social and you’ll save money staying here.

Aether Backpack

We’ve tested countless backpacks over the years, but there’s one that has always been the best and remains the best buy for adventurers: the broke backpacker-approved Osprey Aether and Ariel series.

Want more deetz on why these packs are so  damn perfect? Then read our comprehensive review for the inside scoop!

Abbey Court in Dublin City, a quirky design.

Situated in a historic building, Abbey Court is not the sort of place you will miss easily, it’s one of the most amazing hostels in Dublin, Ireland. It’s completely covered in bright murals of flowers and is funky inside and out. Abbey Court is also an award-winning hostel, and people keep coming back.

Since it opened in 1999, it’s seen thousands of guests arrive through its doors, all of them looking for a cheap hostel in Dublin. It’s still cheap (and pretty awesome) to this day! Throughout you’ll find cool hang-out areas, including a lush courtyard garden decorated in a boho style, and a basement bar and games room and take advantage of the free WiFi.

The dorms at this hostel are pretty simple, no pod beds here. Some of the rooms also aren’t very spacious, but that’s no big deal. It certainly doesn’t stop the rave reviews pouring in from happy hostel-goers!

Where is Abbey Court?

Ok, so these guys also claim to be the most central hostel in Dublin (apparently that’s a thing), but I think they’ve got a good reason for that. It overlooks the Liffey River and is right next to O’Connell Street with the famous O’Connell Bridge nearby, leading to Temple Bar . From here you can get around to many of Dublin’s top sights on foot like Trinity College and Grafton Street, so you won’t have to splash out on public transport as it’s right in the city centre.

Wondering what the sleeping arrangements are? There are a fair few room options available at Abbey Court Hostel, including:

There are private rooms, too, including:

  • Standard twin room private ensuite
  • Standard double bed private ensuite

Prices start at $21 USD per night.

Abbey Court Outdoors area.

As well as being one of the cheapest hostels in Dublin, Abbey Court also has some pretty good features to shout about:

  • Outdoor terrace
  • Hammock room
  • Laundry facilities
  • Cinema room

With so much on offer and an awesome location in one of Dublin’s coolest neighbourhoods close to Trinity College and Grafton Street, this place is definitely a cheap and popular mainstay of the Dublin hostel scene. There’s a reason this place has over 12000 reviews on Hostelworld – people keep coming back to this Dublin hostel.

Jacobs Inn - A Cheap Hostel Dublin with a nice rooftop area.

This hostel has been ranked among the top 10 hostels in Ireland , and it’s a pretty solid hostel. Unlike some of the other budget hostels in Dublin, Jacobs Inn has been purpose-built. As such, it’s modern and nicely designed. It feels a little more like a sleek hotel than backpacker digs – especially if you opt for one of the private rooms.

Shared spaces here are cool and contemporary, with tons of indoor plants and parquet floors, neon signs on the walls, that sort of thing. The interiors are definitely something to shout about compared to most hostels. The rooftop terrace is also something that really sells this Dublin hostel.

Since it’s purpose-built to be a hostel, the beds here aren’t just basic bunks. Instead, they’ve got pod beds; comfy, and spacious, with their own lights and power sockets.

If you’re thinking it’s all style, no substance – think again. Jacobs Inn is a super social place, great for solo travellers. It’s one of the top hostels in Dublin, Ireland for sure!

Where is Jacobs Inn?

Jacobs Inn isn’t the most central hostel in Dublin, but it’s situated near Connolly Station and Dublin’s main bus station , meaning it’s a great location if you plan on taking any day trips from Dublin . This also means you can get to Dublin Airport pretty quickly from here. All the sights and energy of O’Connell Street , Temple Bar and beyond are very close by.

In terms of room options at this stylish hostel, there’s a good selection on offer. Let’s take a look at the dorms:

And the private room options include:

  • Double bedroom
  • Four-bed room
  • Six-bed room

Prices start at $34 per person per night.

Jacobs Inn Dublin

Being a cool, modern hostel and all, you can bet that there are some pretty good amenities at Jacobs Inn. Guests will have access to the following perks and features:

  • Bottomless breakfast (additional fee)
  • Bar (with live music)
  • Vending machines

Dublin Ireland FAQ

How cheap are hostels in Dublin?

You can find very inexpensive hostels in Dublin, starting at around $20 USD per night. However, that’s not really the norm. Budget hostels in the Irish capital tend to hover around the $30 USD mark, and can actually soar during the summer months or even on weekends. If you want a private room, (not even the fanciest ones) start at around $80 USD per night. If you really want to stick to a budget, staying somewhere that offers free breakfast is definitely worth it. Though Dublin is fairly compact, you’ll be paying an extra premium for being in a central location right on the doorstep of the city’s top attractions.

Are hostels in Dublin safe?

Dublin is a safe city and its hostels are no different. The only thing that might bother you is being in a party hostel with a lot of drunk people – there are a lot of pubs around, after all. But the simple solution to this is to choose somewhere more low-key, away from rowdy crowds. In terms of security, pretty much every hostel in Dublin is still very secure. Things like lockers, key card access, and 24-hour security are the norm. You should have no worries at all while staying in the city.

Are there any more cheap hostels in Dublin?

Yes, of course, there are more budget hostels on offer in Dublin. For a boutique, stylish option, Generator Dublin (from $33 per night) is part of the tried and tested Generator chain; a balance between a sociable atmosphere and clean, quiet dorm rooms. Fairly pricey, but for a good reason, Garden Lane Backpackers (from $40 per night) gets rave reviews thanks to its buzzing, international atmosphere, charming rooftop terrace, and comfy hangout spaces, like their TV and music room. Abrahams Hostel (from $22 per night- a steal compared to most hostel prices in Dublin) is a great option to keep to a budget in Dublin. You get things like a fully-equipped kitchen, free breakfast, and a top location within walking distance of top sights.

Travelers Should Be Extra Mindful of Pickpockets in These European Countries, Study Shows

The study also mentioned specific attractions where pickpockets may be most prevalent.

Nothing can ruin a vacation like being the victim of a pickpocketing scam. Throughout Europe specifically, a new study shows that there are some destinations where theft is more prevalent than others.

Travelers to Italy should be on their guard since the country ranked the highest for pickpockets among all popular European hotspots, according to a recent study by UK insurance price comparison platform Quotezone.co.uk . To determine the ranking, the study looked at pickpocketing mentions in visitor reviews at popular attractions like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon in Rome, the Duomo di Milano in Milan, and the Gallerie Degli Uffizi in Florence.

Overall, Italy had 478 pickpocketing mentions for every million British visitors, the highest of countries studied in Europe, according to the report.

“Theft can happen anywhere and tourist hotspots are convenient places for criminals to target holidaymakers’ wallets and purses whilst they are busy taking in the sites,” Greg Wilson, the founder and CEO of Quotezone.co.uk, said in a statement. “It is essential always to remain vigilant, leave valuables, like expensive [jewelry], in a safe in the hotel and always travel with a secure cross-body bag with zips to secure phones and wallets or even a money belt.”

Travelers heading to France should also be aware of their surroundings since the country ranked second on the list with 251 mentions of being pickpocketed for every million British visitors. That’s especially true for the area around Paris’ most iconic structure, the Eiffel Tower, which the study found was the worst for pickpockets in the country.

That was followed by Spain — and particularly Barcelona’s Las Ramblas — and Germany, which each saw 111 mentions of being pickpocketed for every million British visitors.

On the other end of the spectrum was Ireland, which had only seven mentions of pickpocketing for every million British visitors, according to the study. Where you want to watch out for your bag is the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, a notorious tourist trap but a worthwhile one nonetheless .

If you do get pickpocketed, Wilson encouraged travelers to file a police report to be covered for any possible insurance claims.

It’s also a good idea to make copies of important documents and make sure all your devices are password-protected.

And remember: you’re not alone. Even the most seasoned travelers can fall victim to pickpockets, just like Rick Steves did when he wasn't wearing his money belt on the Paris Metro a few years ago.

Man charged with Dublin assault that left Canadian tourist "unresponsive"

Madalin ghiuzan has been charged with two counts of assault causing harm to a tourist in dublin city centre in the early hours of sunday..

Gardai are continuing to appeal for information relating to the serious assault that took place on Cathal Brugha Street and O’Connell Street Upper in Dublin on Sunday, June 23.

Madalin Ghiuzan, 23, has been charged in relation to a serious assault in Dublin City Center in the early hours of Sunday, June 23 that has left a man, reportedly a tourist from Canada, hospitalized.

Gardaí said on Sunday that they were investigating an assault that occurred on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin 1 early that morning.

"At approximately 1:00 am this morning, Gardaí on patrol in the city centre were alerted to two incidents involving a number of individuals on Cathal Brugha Street and O’Connell Street Upper and attended," Gardaí said on Sunday.

"Upon arrival, two suspects were identified and arrested near the scene.

"A man, aged in his 40s, has been taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for serious injuries sustained in this incident.

"No other injuries have been reported.

"The two arrested men, aged in their 20s and 30s, are currently detained at a Garda Station in Dublin City Centre."

In an update on Monday morning, Gardaí said that the man in his 20s had been charged and was due to appear before Court 1 of the CCJ, while the other man, who is in his 30s, had been released.

Gardaí added that they are looking to speak with any individuals who were in the Cathal Brugha Street area, near the Living Room Bar, between 12:40 am and 1:00 am and any individuals who were on O’Connell Street Upper near the Spar Shop / Funland/ Tourism Office, opposite the Spire, between 12:40 am and 1:00 am Sunday morning.

Anyone who has camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to Gardaí, and anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

In a subsequent update on Monday, Gardaí said that another man, aged in his 30s, had been arrested and was detained at a Garda station in Dublin. This is the third arrest made by Gardaí as part of this investigation.

Meanwhile, the injured man, aged in his 40s, remains in hospital in a serious condition.

RTÉ News reports that Madalin Ghiuzan, a 23-year-old from Romania who has been living in Ireland for five years, has been charged with two counts of assault causing harm.

Ghiuzan, who has an address at Summerhill Parade in Dublin 1, appeared in the Dublin District Court on Monday morning to be charged with the offenses.

Garda Sergeant Sean McCarthy said that at 12:40 am on Sunday, Ghiuzan was at Cathal Brugha Street with friends when the injured party approached him.

The court heard they had no prior contact, and they "engaged in a conversation" before two alleged assaults took place.

McCarthy said Ghiuzan was observed striking the man several times before his group of friends moved to O'Connell Street.

The victim was knocked to the ground during the assault, McCarthy said, and "struggled with getting himself onto his feet."

The court heard that the man also proceeded to O'Connell Street, where he encountered the group once again near the Spire.

McCarthy said Ghiuzan "pushed and punched the man," causing him to fall to the ground. He said the man never regained consciousness following the second attack and has been brought to the Mater Hospital where he is "unresponsive."

He described the man's injuries as "serious at present" and said more serious charges would be brought against Ghiuzan if the man's condition deteriorated. The current charges carry a maximum 10-year prison term.

Under cross-examination by defense solicitor Stephen O’Mahony, McCarthy agreed that Ghiuzan had answered questions and put forward a narrative of self-defense.

He also acknowledged that the investigation was ongoing and that Gardaí sought to interview other people. They are also investigating further video evidence from the area.

McCarthy acknowledged that Ghiuzan had no other charges before the court but said he was recommending against bail due to the seriousness of the offenses in addition to flight risk concerns.

Although Ghiuzan has lived in Ireland for five years, McCarthy told the court that the accused had no real ties to the state, adding that he did not pay rent or a mortgage as he lives with a family member.

McCarthy told District Court President Judge Paul Kelly that Ghiuzan made no reply when the charges were put to him.

O'Mahony said his client would obey bail conditions, pointing out that he moved to Ireland when he was 18 and had a job. He also has an Irish driver's license and lives with a sibling, O'Mahony said.

Judge Kelly, however, held that Ghiuzan was a flight risk and refused to grant bail.

Ghiuzan has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday.

Whether you want to explore the Irish countryside, or are planning a city break in Ireland, you will be seduced by this enchanting island before you leave.

Hostels in Ireland are mainly situated along the coast and in the main cities like Dublin, Galway and Cork. The latter being small enough cities, the youth hostel of your choice will undoubtedly be close to the main attractions. No matter where you stay, you won’t have to break the bank for accommodation as cheap hostels are easy to find on the island. Most Irish hostels offer free breakfast, but some of the best hostels in Ireland will also provide you with walking tours, movie nights, quiz tournaments, live music and more!

Planning a city break? Dublin, cannot be overlooked, but smaller cities like Galway and Cork might surprise you. These two charming cities also boast plenty of cultural attractions as well as a vibrant nightlife, but as they are less touristy, which gives you a chance to connect with locals. If on the contrary you are looking for the magnificent wilderness of Ireland as seen in documentaries, visiting the West is a must. Connemara, the Ring of Kerry, the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher are among the most breath taking places to visit in the country.

The three main assets of Ireland are most probably: breathtaking landscapes, a rich culture and a welcoming people. To make the most of the natural scenery, hike the Wild Atlantic Way, the Ring of Kerry or the Wicklow Way to name just a few. If it’s Irish history and folklore you’re after, Dublin is the obvious choice, however, don’t overlook the Irish countryside as the island is peppered with castles, ancient churches and monastic houses. Finally, to mingle with the locals, you can join in the fun for Saint Patrick’s Day, watch the rugby, enjoy some Irish music at a local pub, or even take some traditional Irish dance classes!

The three international airports of the Republic of Ireland are situated in Dublin, Cork and Shannon. To get around Ireland, renting a car is a convenient option if you plan on touring the island at your own pace, but beware of sheep crossings on rural roads!

Man accused of assaulting Canadian tourist in Dublin city centre refused bail

A 23-year-old man charged with attacking a Canadian tourist who remains “unresponsive” in an intensive care unit after being severely injured in central Dublin on Sunday has been refused bail.

Madalin Ghiuzan, with an address at Summerhill Parade, Dublin 1, is accused of two counts of assault causing harm to the tourist, believed to be in his 40s, at Cathal Brugha Street and O’Connell Street Upper in the early hours of June 23rd.

Mr Ghiuzan, originally from Romania, appeared at Dublin District Court on Monday and listened to the proceedings with the assistance of an interpreter.

Garda Sergeant Sean McCarthy told District Court President Judge Paul Kelly that the accused made no reply to the charges. He said Mr Ghiuzan has no other charges before the court, but the objection to bail was due to the seriousness of the alleged offences and flight risk concerns.

Garda Sergeant McCarthy claimed that at 12.40am, the accused was at Cathal Brugha Street with friends when the injured party approached him. The court heard they had no prior contact, and they “engaged in a conversation”. It was alleged the accused was observed striking the injured party several times before he and his friends went to O’Connell Street.

The man was knocked on the ground and “struggled with getting himself onto his feet”, and the court heard he also made his way to O’Connell Street close to the Spire, about 400 metres away. Then, there was another interaction between the accused, the man, and his group.

According to Sergeant McCarthy, Mr Ghiuzan struck and then “pushed and punched” the man, knocking him to the ground.

Judge Kelly heard that the injured party never regained consciousness and was brought to the Mater Hospital “and is unresponsive”.

The offences carry a maximum 10-year sentence.

The garda sergeant agreed the accused had been in Ireland for five years and lived with a family member. He told the court that Mr Ghiuzan did not pay rent or a mortgage and did not have real ties to the State.

He described the injured party’s condition as “serious at present”. Should it deteriorate, it was envisaged that more serious charges would be brought. The sergeant also said the accused was aware of this, and there were fears he would flee the country given the seriousness of the allegation.

Cross-examined by defence solicitor Stephen O’Mahony, the garda agreed that his client, under interview, answered questions, was shown CCTV evidence and gave a narrative of self-defence.

The garda sergeant also accepted that it was an ongoing investigation and other people were to be questioned.

Gardai are looking for further video evidence from the area.

The solicitor submitted that Mr Ghiuzan came to Ireland when he was 18, had a job, and lived with a sibling. He submitted that lodgement of money could be sought, and his client would obey bail conditions. The court heard the accused had an Irish driving licence and a Romanian national ID card.

Judge Kelly held he was a flight risk and refused to grant him bail. Mr Ghiuzan was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday.
