Best Milan tours

1.  milan hop-on hop-off bus tour.

Milan Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour

For those who want to explore the city at their own pace, and with an element of flexibility, the ultimate Milan city tour by bus is the best way to get around thanks to its hop-on hop-off policy. The company’s open-top double-decker takes you past sights including the Duomo, the La Scala opera house and Il Cenacolo Vinciano. Simply climb on and alight as you wish.

Time Out tip: There are multiple ticket options that last from 24 to 72 hours, and you can even select the optional night tour.

2.  Skip-the-line Duomo and rooftop guided tour

Skip-the-line Duomo and rooftop guided tour

Not one for queuing? This two-part guided milan city tour takes you around the city's magnificent cathedral, up to its summit for incredible views of the Milanese skyline, and down into its subterranean crypt – without having to wait in line with all the other sightseers. Great for the impatient.

Time Out tip: If you have the choice, try and visit the rooftop on a clear day – that way you'll get to see as far as the Italian Alps.

3.  Skip-the-line Leonardo da Vinci walking tour

Skip-the-line Leonardo da Vinci walking tour

Another queue-jumper tour; this one takes you into the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a UNESCO-listed site that contains the ‘Last Supper’ mural by Leonardo da Vinci, who lived in Milan for some time. There’s also his ‘Atlantic Codex’ to see: a frankly mind-boggling compendium of some of the Renaissance man’s scientific drawings and writings. Disclaimer: you’ll probably come out feeling like a real under-achiever.

Time Out tip:  Seeing as this tour takes place in a church, be sure to avoid visiting on days of religious events as this may result in closures. The site is also closed on Mondays.

4.  La Scala theatre and museum tour

La Scala theatre and museum tour

This tour takes you around one of the most famous opera houses in the world, the Teatro alla Scala, and its adjoining museum. This is a chance to wander around a sumptuous eighteenth-century institution, and look over a rich collection of costumes, painted portraits and musical instruments.

Time Out tip:  Be sure to listen carefully to your guide, who will be unveiling fascinating tales and anecdotes of the musicians who performed on this famous stage.

5.  Lake Como day trip

Lake Como day trip

As one of the best day tours from Milan, you can't pass up the opportunity to visit Lake Como. Beautiful, sweeping and set against a backdrop of the mountains, this scenic paradise is one of the true great natural wonders of Italy, and a popular tourist area. This tour takes you through the streets of Como city, out on the waters over to Bellagio Island and up the funicular to the town of Brunate.

Time Out tip:  A valid passport and visa (if necessary) will be required to pass through Swiss customs.

6.  Walking tour of Brera

Walking tour of Brera

The best Milan walking tour for foodies? This one sends you on a culinary journey through the district of Brera and to six different locations where you can sample traditional Milanese dishes, artisanal beer and other delicious victuals. Best loosen your belt before you embark!

Time Out tip:  The tour can accommodate dietary requirements – you just need to give at least 24 hours' notice.

7.  Evening cooking lesson with dinner

Evening cooking lesson with dinner

Want to have a crack at making your own Italian grub? This traditional Italian cooking class in Milan takes you into a genuine Milanese home – in her kitchen, Aurora will teach you how to make handmade pasta, regional meat dishes and desserts including canoli, tiramisu and pannacotta. Naturally, you get to enjoy the final product.

Time Out tip: The three-course feast includes two glasses of wine, one glass of prosecco and a shot of limoncello – in other words, make sure you arrive via taxi or appoint a designated driver.

8.  Lake Maggiore day trip

Lake Maggiore day trip

Another water-based tour, this time out to the beautiful Maggiore, in what the organisers describe as ‘Italy’s Lake District’. You’ll also get the chance to explore the quaint lakeside village of Stresa and the Borromean Islands.  We can’t help thinking the weather will be a   lot  more hospitable here.

Time Out tip:  Bring some cash along if you're interested in popping into the boutique shops along the way.

9.  Skyscrapers guided walking tour

Skyscrapers guided walking tour

Not just a centre of gorgeous Renaissance buildings, Milan is also home to some astounding contemporary architecture. This three-hour tour focuses on the city’s dazzling skyscrapers, from the award-winning twin Bosco Verticale buildings to the UniCredit Tower in Piazza Gae Aulenti.

Time Out tip:  No need to bring snacks on the tour, as its final stop is Italian food and drink emporium, Eataly – where you can sit down at one of the restaurants or explore the market.

10.  Milan in one day: Last Supper, Milan Duomo and walking tour

Milan in one day: Last Supper, Milan Duomo and walking tour

If you’re only in the city for a short while, then this tour is a good choice – it sends you on a whistlestop route through various key sites including the cathedral, Leonardo’s masterpiece in the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and popular shopping destination Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

Time Out tip:  There's no food or drink allowed inside the Duomo, so don't bring any along unless you're happy for it to get confiscated.

The Last Supper

What's unique about da Vinci's famous mural is that it's not hanging in some famous museum filled with other masterpieces, but it's painted directly onto the wall in the unassuming Santa Maria delle Grazie church. It's a solemn and private space for a sacred painting. This makes the experience even more memorable and exclusive since only a small number of tourists have access each day, which is essential for preserving this fragile art.

The next-best benefit—aside from the painting itself—is that your expert guide can point out the most important parts of the masterpiece and tell of the folklore, myths, secrets, and facts that surround Last Supper . This is important, since time in front of the painting is limited to 15 minutes per group, with less than 30 people allowed in the room at any one time. A few helpful pointers will make sure you don't miss a thing about one of the world's most famous artworks.

* Please make sure to provide your full names and birthdates upon booking and bring a legal identification, otherwise security will not grant you access.

Walking Tour of Milan

Upon leaving the Santa Maria delle Grazie, you'll head towards the city center with your guide to see one of the world’s most historic and opulent malls: the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. You'll be starry-eyed here as you see the famous shops of Gucci, Versace, Prada, and many more household names in a building that feels more like a baroque palace than a mall. Welcome to the fashion heartland of Milan!

After exploring the mall and strolling past beautiful Sforza Castle and La Scala opera house, your guide will lead you through the small but historic Brera district and the courtyard of the Brera Gallery. Known as the city's artistic and cultural center—with an upmarket yet bohemian feel—this is also home to many of Milan's most famous residents. Learn their secrets from your guide!

Milan’s Duomo

The world-famous Duomo in Milan is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and the largest in Italy. There's a lot to see here, so you can skip the line and spend your time looking around instead of waiting around. Milan’s cathedral is filled with historic artworks, incredible architectural features, and ancient crypts, as well as a fascinating archaeological area to explore. Follow along with your guide who'll keep you enthralled with the 600-year history of its construction, troubles, and the historic figures who once walked the cathedral's corridors.

One day in Milan

We had only one day in Milan and wanted to see Di Vinci's Last Supper. This tour included that as well as tours of La Scalla, the Duomo and the Galleria. Our guide, Beatrice was knowledgable, helpful, courteous and professional. We had an excellent experience.

A great way to see Milan's highlights

Joseph, our guide, was funny, personable, and a wealth of information. I appreciated the ability to skip the line and go directly in to see the Last Supper. Walking tour was a good one -- at the right pace and covered a lot of Milan's highlights. A great way to get an overview of the city. Definitely recommend the tour and Joseph.

Pinacoteca di Brera admission at 2 euro on Thursday evenings!

Our stay in Milan has been very nice.  That is partially the result of the tour Guided Tour Milan gave us, which all of us really enjoyed, so many thanks for that again!!   I really enjoyed seeing the things Guided Tour Milan showed us, especially the library, the small church with the bones and the Church with the marvelous frescoes.  Overall, I really enjoyed Milan, a lot of nice people, good food, nice things to see and good partying as well.  I think the rest of our group will agree with me on this. Thank you!

The tour guide was very informed and personable. It really made the difference listening to her description of Leonardo Da Vinci and his projects, and in particular the analysis of the Last Supper. The tour of the Castle was great as well. It was certainly worth the investment.

All four of us really liked the tour guide. She was very professional, knowledgeable and very sweet. We enjoyed our tour with her very much.

Our tour guide was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable, tailored the experience entirely to our pace and was kind to my older aunt. Gave us great recommendations for later. Nothing like a personal guide instead of the usual 20 people in a group. Would strongly recommend her to everyone.

Vera, our tourguide, was excellent. We learned so much about the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, the famous Last Supper, and the story of the creation of the painting itself.

The museum allows visitors for 15 minutes, which can go by quite quickly. The other painting across the room, by Montorfano, is also worth a look at.

Then we got to the Sforza castle, and we got to walk around the castle property, though the tour does not include entrance to the castle museum. I had no idea that this was one of the historic sites destroyed during World War II.

The reconstruction is quite impressive and we walked away much more familiar with the story of Milan.

Human skulls and bones adorn the interior walls of the church, creating a striking and somewhat eerie atmosphere. Originally built in the 13th century, it underwent renovation in the 18th century. The ossuary, where the bones are displayed, was added in the 17th century to accommodate the remains from the adjacent hospital's cemetery. Despite its unusual decoration, San Bernardino alle Ossa is a fascinating historical site.

Santa Maria delle Grazie

Santa Maria delle Grazie is another historic church in Milan. The church is famous for housing Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting, The Last Supper. The church was built in the 15th century and has a simple yet elegant interior. The highlight of the church is the refectory, where you can see Leonardo's masterpiece. Many visitors come to Santa Maria delle Grazie specifically to see The Last Supper. Booking tickets in advance is a must.

San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore

San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore is a hidden gem among Milan's churches. It's often referred to as the "Sistine Chapel of Milan" because of its stunning frescoes covering almost every inch of the interior. The church dates back to the 16th century and was originally part of a Benedictine convent. The frescoes depict various religious scenes and are beautifully preserved. Despite its smaller size compared to other churches in Milan, San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful retreat from the bustling city streets.

What people love about Italy Tours from Milan

Our guide, Ned, was great. The hotel Meininger was clean and comfortable in a college dormitory way, but not very friendly. I asked to reduce the centrally controlled thermostat because I sleep better when it’s cooler, and they said no. The hallways are not air conditioned at all. The rooms get hot during the day and the air conditioning won’t stay on without the key in the slot. I’d rather pay a few dollars more and adjust the temperature to my own needs. The tour has lots of walking but it was enjoyable to see Milan’s highlights. Lake Como was gorgeous scenery, perfect weather, and we had enough time for a nice meal in Bellagio and a drink in Varenna. The train ride back to Milan was standing room only, and hot and stuffy, followed by a long wait in line at the taxi stand. I’d rate the tour guide higher than the accommodations. I suppose that the name of the tour agency (Italy on a Budget) should give a warning that all is not going to be first class.
It was our first time visiting Italy and we didn't want to spend time planning things out for ourselves so we chose to go with the Iconic Italian Cities tour. The tour was good with some good selections of places to visit.
We did a customized Italy tour plus 2 days Amsterdam at the end of our trip. The team was fantastic in getting us exactly what we wanted. Any time we had difficulties or questions the team was on top of it and got our issues solved almost immediately.

Taylor Swift Travis Kelce Eras Tour

Will Travis Kelce Join Taylor Swift in Milan for Her Eras Tour?

By Anubhav Chaudhry

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour has been capturing the attention of fans worldwide. Speculation is now swirling around whether NFL star Travis Kelce will join her in Milan. As the tour continues to be a monumental success, Kelce’s potential appearance adds an exciting twist for fans. This possibility leaves many wondering about Swift and Kelce’s relationship and how his presence might enhance the Eras Tour experience.

So, will Travis Kelce join Taylor Swift in Milan for her Eras Tour? Here’s what is currently known.

Is Travis Kelce joining Taylor Swift in Milan, Italy?

Travis Kelce has not been confirmed to join Taylor Swift in Milan, Italy, for her Eras Tour. However, it is possible he might make a surprise appearance.

Kelce recently attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows in Amsterdam, sparking excitement among fans with his presence. Despite this, he missed the Zurich concerts due to his NFL training camp commitments and participation in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, as reported by Elle . The tournament runs from July 10 to 14, making it unlikely for Kelce to be in Milan for Swift’s shows on July 13 and 14, as per the event’s website .

Kelce’s attendance at previous concerts has been a delight for fans. He was seen in Amsterdam, where Taylor Swift playfully hinted at his presence by incorporating references to him during her performance. Before this, he was also spotted at London’s Wembley Stadium and Ireland’s Aviva Stadium, showcasing his support for Swift’s tour.

Additionally, in a July 3 episode of the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis hinted that his Wembley Stadium stage appearance might not be his last, suggesting fans would need to attend more Eras Tour shows to see if he “magically” appears again. While this does not confirm his presence in Milan, it keeps fans hopeful for a possible surprise appearance.

Will Travis Kelce appear on stage during the Italy Eras Tour?

Travis Kelce may appear on stage during the Italy Eras Tour, but it is unlikely.

The Kansas City Chiefs star is currently participating in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The tournament runs from July 10 to 14, overlapping with Taylor Swift’s shows in Milan on July 13 and 14.

Despite this, Kelce hinted on the New Heights podcast that he might show up on stage again during the Eras Tour. While his presence in Milan remains unconfirmed, Kelce’s support for Taylor Swift at previous tour stops has delighted fans. This keeps them hopeful for future surprises.

Whether or not he makes it to Milan, Swift’s Eras Tour continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
