Pets can travel on a commercial airline in one of 3 ways: in-cabin, checked baggage and manifest cargo.

Checked Baggage Cabin

Pets traveling in the cabin must fly with an adult passenger and travel in an airline compliant carrier stowed under the seat.

Checked Baggage Cargo

Pets traveling with a passenger that are not permitted in the cabin can be transported as checked baggage in the cargo hold.

Manifest Cargo

Unaccompanied or very large pets will travel as manifest cargo in the hold.

Does Easy Jet Accept Dogs on Board?

We love going on holiday with our dog! Our team wants to help you go on adventures with your faithful companion too. That’s why we take the time to inform you about the policies of several airlines.

Unfortunately, some airlines do not accept pets on board. That’s the case with Easy Jet. Your dog will not be able to travel with this airline, either in the hold or in the cabin. We advise you to find another company if you want to go with your dog. Here are some T-shirts you can buy instead of a plane ticket (in case you cancel your plans to stay with your pooch):

Emotional support animals or other animals that are described as therapeutic by their owners without official registration will not be accepted on Easy Jet flights.

However, officially recognized and registered guide dogs are accepted by EasyJet. If you want to travel with a certified guide dog or a hearing impaired guide dog, you can do so at no extra cost.

If you need to travel with a guide dog, inform Easy Jet at least 48 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time and check in at the airport at least two hours before takeoff.

Some restrictions apply depending on the departure point and destination of the trip:

Flights to and From an EU Airport, Including Switzerland and Norway:

You must present an official document confirming that the dog is a properly trained service dog or that it is under the control of a trainer. The official document must come from an organization affiliated with one of these organizations:

Assistance Dogs International (ADI) Dogs UK Assistance (ADUK) International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) Your dog must wear a standard identification harness or chasuble.

When travelling to or from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (including domestic flights in the United Kingdom), an official document is required that confirms that your guide dog fully meets the requirements of the UK Pet Passport Scheme.

Flights to/from: Egypt, Israel, Kosovo, Montenegro, Morocco, Turkey:

Guide or assistance dogs are not allowed on these flights due to restrictions at local airports.

What is easyjet policy on pet acceptance.

Unfortunately, EasyJet does not accept animals. They explain that any problem with a pet that is traveling on any of their flights could prolong the turnaround time of a flight. This prohibition applies to either cabin baggage or luggage which is transported in the cargo hold of the aircraft. In the airline’s Terms and Conditions, talking exclusively about luggage transported, in the section of Items Unacceptable as Baggage, EasyJet states that passengers must not take in their luggage live animals . The airline will refuse to accept those.

In order to be more specific, live animals including pets, reptiles, insects or any other form of livestock, are not allowed on this airline’s flights nor in the cabin or in the hold, with the exception of Guide or Service Dogs , this on all easyJet flights.

Guide or Assistance Dogs

EasyJet will admit Guide or Assistance Dogs accompanying passengers who are vision impaired, blind, hearing impaired, deaf, or if they have a disability that leads to the need of the assistance provided by these kinds of dogs.

A Guide Dog is an animal trained in order to provide mobility help to persons with any of the problems mentioned in the last paragraph. To be transported as an Assistance or Guide Dog, a dog must :

• Be trained to go together with its owner and must know how to support people with incapacity.
• Be trained by a recognized training organization (an organization affiliated with Assistance Dogs International or International Guide Dog Federation).
• Be in possession of an authorized identity document issued by a recognized training organization endorsing that the assistance dog is a completely trained service pet or is under the regulations of a verified trainer.
• Wear an identifying jacket or harness to be provided by the handler, at all times while being in the airport terminal and while it is on board the aircraft.
• Be kept under the direction and control of the passenger at all times during the flight .

EasyJet will admit to transporting Assistance or Guide Dogs , together with food and containers, at no additional cost and in addition to the normal free baggage allowance , on the following routes :

• All the flights starting and finishing inside the European Union (except the UK), plus Switzerland and Norway.
• All the United Kingdom domestic flights, including Northern Ireland.
• All international flights between all United Kingdom airports and the European Union, Switzerland, and Norway, subject to the UK Pet Passport Scheme.

Please keep in mind that Assistance or Guide Dogs are not allowed on flights to and from Israel, Turkey, Kosovo, Montenegro, Egypt, or Morocco .

Passengers must inform EasyJet in advance if they need to travel with an Assistance or Guide Dog, during the reservation process, or by contacting the airline via the sales desk or customer service team a minimum of 48 hours prior to the passenger’s departure .

To guarantee that all required procedures are completed, travelers with Assistance or Guide Dogs are suggested to present themselves at the Bag Drop desk at least 120 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of the flight .

Assistance or Guide Dogs will be accommodated at no charge on the floor of the aircraft and at the feet of the owner. The harness or jacket the pet has to use at all times must be tied to the handler’s seat belt during landing, take-off, in the course of turbulence, and when the “fasten seat belt” sign is lit up.

The acceptance for transportation of Assistance or Guide Dogs inside the passenger cabin is subject to the complete passenger’s responsibility for the mentioned animal, including the flights on the United Kingdom itineraries making sure that the Assistance or Guide Dog fulfills the conditions of the UK Pet Travel Scheme.

It is helpful to know that the airline will not accept legal responsibility for any Assistance or Guide Dog that is not properly documented when its owner presents it for transportation. This includes any liability due to injuries, delay, loss, sickness, or, in a worst-case scenario, death of the pet. The airline will not take responsibility for any costs incurred in the incident that the Guide Dog or Assistance Dog is refused entry into or pass through any state, territory, or country.

The EasyJet pet policy for 2024 doesn’t allow dogs, cats or any other animal to travel in the cabin or the hold of the plane . Registered Assistance or Service dogs are allowed on board most EasyJet flights, but you can’t take your dog on certain routes. Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) aren’t recognised by EasyJet. EasyJet Pet Policy for flying with Assistance & Service Dogs and Emotional Support Animals

You can travel with a recognised Assistance or Service Dog on most Easyjet routes. There are some restrictions which are listed below.

Emotional Support and Comfort Animals (ESA) are not recognised by Easyjet as Assistance or Service dogs. This is due to the fact that ESAs are unlikely to have undergone any task based training. For an Assistance Dog to be recognised by Easyjet, the training must have been performed by an affiliate of one of the following organisations:

• Assistance Dogs International (ADI)
• International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF)

You will be asked to provide evidence of the qualifying training when you travel with an Assistance Dog under the Easyjet pet policy. A fully trained and registered Psychiatric Service Dog will be permitted to travel. Of course, you will also need documentation that meets the requirements of the EU Pet Travel Scheme.

Easyjet Pet Policy Permitted Routes for Assistance & Service Dogs

Service dogs are permitted on all EasyJet pet travel flights starting and finishing within the EU, including Switzerland and Norway.

Easyjet Pet Policy Non-permitted routes for Assistance & Service Dogs

Under the EasyJet pet policy, Assistance or Service Dogs are not allowed on flights to and from Egypt, Israel, Kosovo, Montenegro, Morocco, Turkey.

Easyjet survey shows most pet owners would travel more if they had better pet care easyjet has partnered with trustedhousesitters, a house and pet-sitting membership service to enable even more opportunities to travel for both pet owners and animal lovers easyjet customers will be able to book free house sitters for their pets or find free accommodation as a house sitter, when booking flights on www.easyjet.com*.

easyJet, Europe’s leading airline has teamed up with international house and pet sitting business, TrustedHousesitters, to form a partnership that will make it easier for pet owners and animal lovers to travel - and to explore Europe in a different way.

easyJet customers will be able to choose a free house sitter for their pet or find free accommodation as a house and pet sitter when booking flights on easyJet.com. The service is due to launch early in 2018.

The move follows a survey of easyJet customers that revealed how the majority of pet owners would travel more if they had better access to pet care.

Of the customers surveyed, 58%** said they would travel more often if they had more satisfactory pet care solutions. Among those who found that owning pets made travelling more difficult, 62%** said that either the cost of pet care or concern for pet welfare prevented them from going away more often.

easyJet will enable pet owners to match with verified members of the TrustedHousesitters online community to look after their homes, while animal lovers will be able to explore Europe, looking after pets in unique accommodation, when booking on www.easyJet.com.

As well as every variety of cat and dog, pet sitters can find themselves looking after anything from chickens and pigs, to goats and llamas. The accommodation is as diverse as the animals, with house sits available everywhere from French chateaus to stylish apartments in Paris, and bohemian getaways in Spain. There are even entire Greek islands that have been listed on the site.

We all have our preferred Airline that we would like to fly with, but when it comes to accepting pets, not all airlines are made equal. Some airlines are happy for you to bring your beloved pet in the hold of the plane, or even have them in the cabin with you if they are small enough, but some airlines will only accept animals if they are guide/support animals.

Below is a list of popular airlines and whether or not they allow pets.

British Airways

While pets can be flown in the hold they are not allowed in the cabin with you, unless they are assistance dogs, in which case they can travel with you in the cabin for free. For more information see our page on  British Airways .

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic are not currently carrying pets as cargo.

The only animals allowed on Easyjet are service animals and they are only permitted on selected flights.

Only assistance dogs are allowed to fly on Ryanair.

Small cats and dog weighing under 8kg (including the carrier) are allowed to fly in the cabin on most KLM flights. If your pet is heavier than that then they can fly in the hold as long as they weigh less than 75kg. The price will depend on the size and weight of your pet. Small cats and dogs under 8kg can fly in the cabin. Larger animals, including bigger dogs and rabbits, can fly in the hold. If you want your pet to fly in the cabin, then you need to call the airline direct, otherwise we are very happy to help.

Emirates, Etihad

Both of these airlines will allow the transport of cats and dogs as cargo in the hold, but will not allow them in the cabin.

A group of Swifties missed out on seeing the Eras Tour after a bird flew into their plane

• A bird strike delayed an easyJet flight, preventing Swifties from attending the Eras Tour.
• The flight from Belfast to Edinburgh was delayed by seven hours due to safety checks.
• Kathryn Gallagher worked two jobs to afford the trip but missed the show despite her efforts.

A Taylor Swift fan from Northern Ireland said she and her fellow Swifties were prevented from attending the Eras Tour after a bird flew into their plane.

Kathryn Gallagher, 25, planned to fly from her hometown of Antrim, Belfast, to Edinburgh on Sunday for the third and final night of Swift's Scotland shows .

Gallagher told Business Insider that she originally planned to attend the show with a friend who lives in the Scottish capital. But she said she had to miss it after her easyJet flight was delayed by around seven hours.

"When I spoke to people in the airport, most people were on that flight to go specifically to the Eras Tour," Gallagher said in a video on TikTok.

Gallagher said staff explained that safety checks were required to ensure the plane would be able to fly.

The Federal Aviation Administration reports that the number of wildlife that are striking aircraft is increasing. In 2023, the agency recorded around 19,400 strikes at 713 US airports.

Bird strikes can cause aircraft damage, delays, and cancellations, all of which can cost US airlines around $1.2 billion each year, BI previously reported .

Speaking to BI, Gallagher estimated that at least 100 other people waiting to board the flight had also planned to see the concert. (BI could not verify this number).

According to Gallagher, the 55-minute easyJet flight was originally due to take off from Belfast at 12:45 p.m., but it didn't leave the airport until 8 p.m. Swift took the stage at around 7:15 p.m., and the show ended just after 10:15 p.m.

After waiting for more than six hours, Gallagher gave her ticket away and returned home at 6 p.m.

Gallagher said she worked 2 jobs to be able to afford the Eras Tour

Gallagher said she spent an estimated £400, or around $510, on her round-trip flight, the concert ticket, and outfit: A purple dress embroidered with butterfly pins, inspired by Swift's "Speak Now" album .

The 25-year-old said she had been able to afford the trip by working two jobs. During the week, Gallagher works full-time as a sales consultant; at the weekend, she works at a bar.

"With the cost of living and stuff at the minute, one salary really isn't enough to enjoy the little luxuries you might've enjoyed a couple of years ago," she said.

A previous BI report showed that some fans in the US spent up to $20,000 on Eras Tour expenses in 2023. According to a Forbes estimate, the tour grossed around $1.04 billion from the first 60 shows in 2023.

Gallagher said easyJet informed her that she wouldn't be eligible for compensation because "it was out of their control that a bird hit the plane."

"We are very sorry that flight EZY326 from Belfast to Edinburgh yesterday was delayed," an easyJet spokesperson said in a statement to BI on Monday.

"This was due to a bird strike on the aircraft's previous flight which meant the scheduled plane was unable to operate and so we flew an alternative aircraft in from Luton to operate the flight later in the day," they said.

"While this was outside of our control, we did all possible to minimise the disruption for customers and provided refreshment vouchers.

" We understand the disappointment this will have caused to customers and we always advise customers to have travel insurance in place to cover unforeseen issues. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet's highest priority," the statement concluded.

Following BARK Air’s inaugural flight on May 23, the fido-friendly airline has seen a massive demand for pet owners eager to fly with their dogs. The launch of this new airline only included flights between New York (HPN) and Los Angeles (VNY) and New York (HPN) and London (BQH), and now five new cities, domestic and international, are being added to the flight schedule.

BARK Air just announced more routes to the metro areas of Paris (LBG), Chicago (MDW), San Francisco/San Jose (SJC), Phoenix (PHX), and Miami/Fort Lauderdale (FXE).

Flights for the new routes are available for booking as of Wednesday, June 12, with routes starting this October.

Any size or breed of dog can fly on BARK Air. All dogs are required to have up-to-date vaccination records and air concierges can help with any paperwork needed for dogs traveling internationally. No crates or carriers are required for any time in the voyage, but dogs must remain on leash while the plane is taxiing, taking off, landing, or if any turbulence is expected. All human passengers must be 18 years or older.
