About Jackson Hole

Nestled in the heart of the Teton Range, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is a paradise for any skier or rider seeking legendary terrain, breathtaking scenery and an authentic Western town experience. Since its inception in the ‘60s, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has been the proving ground for extreme skiers looking to make a name for themselves. The terrain at Jackson is known across the globe for being some of the most challenging—and rewarding—there is. Tight chutes, like the iconic Corbet's Couloir, big airs, deep snow and steep lines are what make Jackson Hole famous. However, there are dozens of wide-open trails for beginners and picture-perfect cruisers and progressive bump runs for intermediates, and much more.

While a Jackson Hole ski vacation will always be top-of-mind with expert skiers as a bucket list destination because of the advanced and extreme terrain on its slopes and easily accessed side country, Jackson brings a lot more to the plate than just being a place for adrenaline junkies to jump off cliffs. Not only does Jackson Hole exude refreshing cowboy character, on and off the slopes, but its "All Blue" terrain off of Casper chairlift is a game-changer for intermediates.

At Jackson Hole ski resort, you’ll be awed by the breathtakingly rugged Teton mountains, and equally wooed by the authentic and welcoming Wild West atmosphere that pervades both Teton Village and downtown Jackson Hole, which are 15 minutes apart. Everything about Jackson Hole, even down to the shopping and dining is reminiscent of a bygone day and makes for one unforgettable ski vacation. As you can imagine the tough, genuine cowboy vibe in downtown Jackson predates the ski resorts. This rustic pureness in downtown Jackson is part of the draw for many people, from the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, a Western museum and watering hole all in one, to the many cowboy attire retailers and antique stores. And you can bet that the little ones will surely love perusing through town− homemade ice cream in hand−pretending they’re cowboys or cowgirls. Jackson Hole is truly a magical ski destination for kids age three to 99.

How to get to Jackson Hole

Reaching Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is easy with direct flights into Jackson Hole Airport. Shuttle services and car rentals ensure a smooth journey from the airport to your accommodations.

Getting around

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers a complimentary shuttle service, adding convenience for families exploring different areas. The shuttle connects Teton Village, the main village, and other key locations, ensuring seamless access to all resort amenities and activities.

Skiing in Jackson Hole

Many ski legends have been born on the slopes of Jackson Hole. Early icons like Doug Coombs and the founders of the ski movie production team, Teton Gravity Research (TGR) cut their teeth and established a reputation by attacking the gnarly lines of Jackson Hole. Expert lines like Corbett’s Once is Enough, Pucker Face, and Central Couloir still are featured every year in ski movies because they’re timeless.

Jackson Hole often experiences an inversion, where cold air is trapped by clouds at the base of the mountain, while the top of the mountain is gorgeous and sunny with visibility for miles. Skiing in Jackson Hole is like skiing in the clouds. It’s truly breathtaking.

Intermediate skiers have their own slice of heaven at Jackson Hole these days. The All Blue runs off of the Casper chairlift and the Sweetwater gondola is the perfect terrain for intermediates. Intermediates can also enjoy the views from the top of Jackson Hole’s famed Tram, thanks to meandering fun runs all over the mountain, like Amphitheater and Nez-Perce Traverse. And there’s an entire section, the Teewinot Face, on the looker’s right of the mountain for intermediate skiers—accessed via Apres Vous Quad. Beginner runs are relegated to the bottom half of the mountain, off of the Eagle’s Chair and Teewinot Quad.

Beginner Skiing in Jackson Hole:

Well, it’s true, “beginner skiing” and “Jackson Hole” aren’t often used in the same sentence. The vast majority of Jackson’s terrain features steeps, chutes and cliffs; making it “expert” skiing, indeed. If all this sounds intimidating for a beginner skier, don’t fret. Jackson Hole beginner skiing is located at the base of the mountain, completely devoid of anything that would make a beginner uncomfortable. In fact, you’ll probably forget that you’re at one of the most extreme resorts in the U.S., while you’re meandering down one of Jackson Hole’s green circle runs. And there’s an upside to less beginner terrain, it means less beginner skiers. You can comfortably learn or progress without worrying about avoiding throngs of other beginner skiers on the slopes.

While Jackson Hole beginner skiing terrain is limited, compromising 10-percent of the mountain, it’s certainly not nonexistent. First-time skiers should stick to the beginner terrain off of Teewinot Quad and Eagle’s Chair. Between the two chairlifts, beginner skiers have six perfect trails to cruise along on. Peruse through the trees on Antelope Flats or for more wide-open cruising head down Pooh Bear or Eagle’s Rest.

Family vacations in Jackson Hole

At first glance−especially at a trail map− it might not seem like Jackson Hole is well-suited to the task of family-friendly, but that’s simply not true. A Jackson Hole family ski vacation actually offers tons activities and options for families. You’re little ones will love the fun interactive kids trail map, as well as ski school lessons and camps customized to their needs. And downtown Jackson is right out of a little kid’s cowboy fantasy, with an abundance of retail shops brimming with Western attire and toys, plus old-fashioned candy and homemade ice cream.

Jackson Hole Family Lodging

Located slope side, featuring 145 lodge rooms and suites with unique rustic styling and a full complement of upscale services and amenities. You’ll return from your day’s adventures to a true Wyoming welcome, as warm and friendly as the majestic surroundings. Why Jackson Hole Is the Daring Skier's Dream Destination

From backcountry heli-skiing to the expert run Corbet's Couloir, this Wyoming ski area is the place to go for a challenge.

voyage de ski jackson hole

When it comes to advanced skiing, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is a step above the rest.

Although beginner and intermediate skiers will find fun here, half of the resort's 2,500 acres of terrain caters to experts. Consider the famed Corbet's Couloir, one of the steepest open runs in all of North America. Only the most advanced of the advanced dare to try it, but it's also exciting to see thrill seekers drop in from the window of the Aerial Tram as it passes by.

A more mellow way to level up at Jackson Hole is by hopping on a helicopter with High MTN Heli . The flight alone is a thrilling (albeit quick) adventure showcasing stunning Wyoming landscapes that will keep your face glued to the window. Once the chopper drops you off in the backcountry, you'll get a taste of what true solitude feels like — no sounds, no flashing lights, no one to get in your way. After you've taken a second to soak in the silence, you drop in on the ride of your life. Then, you do it again.

That's what it's like to ski at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. You get as much adrenaline-pumping terrain as you can handle, plus close access to cowboy bars, fine dining, and high-end hotels in one of the most storybook ski towns of the West. The town of Jackson, a 30-minute drive from the mountain, serves as the gateway to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks. You shouldn't have any trouble finding something for everyone in your party, from the die-hard shredder to the enthusiastic beginner to the snow bunny more interested in the après.

Here's everything you need to know to plan an epic ski trip to Jackson Hole this winter.

  • Abundant terrain for intermediate and expert levels
  • Breathtaking views from the Aerial Tram (with waffles at the top)
  • Proximity to fine dining, activities, and nightlife in downtown Jackson

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort opens in late November and closes in late April. This ski area is known and loved for its early snowfall, which means late November and December often see the most snow of any other month. This period also marks the holidays, of course, and the first month or so after opening draws large crowds. If you're hoping for a quieter experience, go in January. The bitter cold keeps crowds at bay (i.e., bundle up!). March is arguably the best of both worlds. You get bluebird days with deep powder, plus slopes that aren't annoyingly overrun.

Where to Stay

Four seasons resort and residences jackson hole.

The Four Seasons offers the best mountain access. The lifts are just feet from the door, and a ski valet is on hand to help you put on your boots and get on your way. They’ll even have hot cocoa waiting for you when you return. And the amenities don’t stop there: guests can relax in a world-class spa, swim in the heated outdoor pools, and grab a bite (or a beer) at The Handle Bar.

Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa

At the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, this four-star lodge entices with in-room fireplaces, epic views of the valley and mountain, and a spa that offers soothing treatments and hot tubs after a day on the slopes. Guests don't have to go far for après libations, either, thanks to the lobby's Black Diamond Bar.

Snake River Sporting Club

Large groups should consider booking a stay at Snake River Sporting Club , located about 30 miles from the mountain in Hoback. Sprawling across almost 1,000 acres, the riverside property offers extensive facilities, such as an equestrian center and an 18-hole golf course. Accommodations include private cabins and one- to three-bedroom homes that sleep up to eight (plus pets) right on the green.

Where to Eat

Spur restaurant & bar.

This sleek restaurant inside Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa is where local ingredients meet "alpine European techniques." Fuel up with a croissant breakfast sandwich and green smoothie before hitting the slopes in the morning or stop for tuna poke tacos at lunchtime. Dinner can be filet mignon or duck leg confit and a glass of cabernet sauvignon.

Snake River Grill

Snake River Grill in downtown Jackson has delighted area skiers since 1993. The restaurant serves elegant twists on dishes like Wagyu flank steak and rack of lamb alongside decadent offerings such as a classic caviar service. The interior is cozy and cabin-like, complete with a stone fireplace. Reservations are highly recommended and accepted up to two months in advance.

Corbet's Cabin

It wouldn't be a trip to Rendezvous Peak without enjoying a gourmet waffle at 1,000-plus feet. This seasonal wafflery is a Jackson Hole Mountain Resort tradition. Located at the top of the Aerial Tram, it serves indulgent versions of the breakfast staple — topped with Nutella, berry compote, or peanut butter and bacon — plus hot chocolate and coffee out of a no-frills shack.

Where to Après-ski

The mangy moose.

If you don't have a drink at The Mangy Moose immediately off the mountain, then did you even ski at Jackson Hole? Hit this Teton Village institution for a beer or cocktail, or grab something off the wine list and stay for the live music and even livelier crowd.

Million Dollar Cowboy Bar

The exterior of the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar has to be one of the most photographed places in downtown Jackson (besides the antler arches, of course). Once you snap a photo, go inside through the saloon doors and belly up to the bar on a stool made out of old saddles. Just make sure to get there early as this place fills up fast when there’s a musical act.

One of the best ways to end a day of skiing or riding is with a glass of RPK3 's signature daily punch. This après spot is conveniently located under the Aerial Tram, so you don't have to travel far for happy hour. Warm up around the indoor fireplace or take your beverage to the deck on a bluebird day.

Off-mountain Activities

Enrique Aguirre Aves / Getty Image

Go for a sleigh ride at the National Elk Refuge.

This region is known for its diverse and abundant wildlife. The National Elk Refuge , run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, protects a swath of land inhabited not just by elk but also by bison, bighorn sheep, wolves, bald eagles, and other iconic Jackson Hole species. From mid-December through April, you can tour the preserve on a sleigh ride.

Swap your skis for snowshoes.

Instead of zipping down the mountain on wooden planks, strap into a pair of snowshoes and walk the trails. Book a tour with the Hole Hiking Experience to learn a little about your surroundings from a local naturalist while you're at it. This group offers the most tours in Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park.

Warm up in a hot spring.

With Yellowstone just over the road, it should come as no surprise that Jackson Hole has an abundance of geothermal water prime for soaking. Astoria Hot Springs , about 26 miles from Teton Village, is a great place to warm up in a pool surrounded by picturesque mountains. Sessions are sold in one hour, 45-minute increments. The resort recommends making a reservation as it often sells out in the winter.

How to Ride

Lift tickets cost between about $150 and $250 a day, depending on the day of the week and whether it's a peak time. Late risers can save by booking a half-day ticket, valid from noon to 4 p.m. and ranging from about $120 to $200. There are numerous season passes , from a weekday-only pass with blackout dates to one providing unlimited access. The resort also has a special Golden Ticket promotion, which gives skiers and riders who have a season pass to a ski resort anywhere in the world 50 percent off lift tickets on select days throughout the season. Ikon Pass and Mountain Collective passes are also accepted.

You can rent all the gear you need right at the base of the mountain. The resort's four rental locations are Kids Ranch, JH Sports, and Teton Village Sports in the village and Hoback Sports in downtown Jackson. There's also a delivery option, JH Mountain Direct, which brings gear to your door for free.

Skiing and Snowboarding Info

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort encompasses 2,500 acres of in-bound terrain on two mountains, Après Vous and Rendezvous. Skiers and riders also get access to more than 3,000 acres of backcountry from the resort. There are two terrain parks, four Burton Stash snowboard parks, and 131 named trails, with half rated expert, 40 percent intermediate, and 10 percent beginner. The resort has 16 lifts, including two carpet lifts, one handle tow, several gondolas, and the famous Aerial Tram, which offers 360-degree views of the Tetons and Jackson Hole.

Programming

Although Jackson Hole Mountain Resort caters largely to intermediate and advanced skiers and riders, there's help for the beginner, too. Its Mountain Sports School offers half- and full-day lessons and multiday camps for all levels. It also offers guided tours into the vast backcountry and kids programs that last three to 12 weeks.

Jackson Hole takes its ski school a step further than most. You can book a session with an Olympian or take an adaptive ski lesson using specialized equipment for people with disabilities.

voyage de ski jackson hole

A full three-day, four-night ski trip itinerary for the whole family.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming has a little something for everyone in the winter, from the 5-year-old to the 85-year-old. If you know where to look, local slopes can be chosen to fit the ability and preferences of each family member and guided experiences are tailored to each person's needs.

This itinerary will get you through a family ski trip with very little tears, minimal yelling, and unforgettable memories.

voyage de ski jackson hole

For skiers: first timers to long timers For groups: families of all sizes Pro-tip: Always pre-book lift tickets and ski lessons to ensure availability! And try a mid-week vacation if you’re looking for a short lines and affordability.

Getting here: If you’re driving, set your navigation straight to The Village and plan to arrive just in time for check in at your vacation rental . If you’re flying, book through Jackson Hole Resort Reservations and a personalized agent will let you know the best time to arrive (often the night before your ski vacation is set to begin).

Getting around:  The Jackson Hole Airport now offers an affordable shuttle from the airport to town. From there, public transportation easily gets you and your skies around town and out to The Village (the base of JHMR). So no need to rent a car, even for families visiting Jackson! Just plan ahead using the START mobile app .

Lodging: For families, we recommend searching Rendezvous Mountain Rentals or Outpost Vacation Rentals  with your location set to “Teton Village” or “The Aspens”.

Rentals: Prior to arrival, arrange rentals for the entire vacation from Black Tie Ski Rentals . They’ll come directly to your vacation rental with all the right gear to outfit the whole fam and will even custom fit your ski boots right in your living room.

Skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Day 1: All Day with a Guide

Breakfast: Cafe 6311 , aptly named for the elevation at which it sits, is perfect for coffee and breakfast on the go before hitting the slopes. Especially since it’s just steps away from the meet-up spot for lessons.

Activity:  An all-day lesson or guided experience at JHMR is the perfect place to start your Jackson ski trip. They’ll tailor the experience to the exact skill level and terrain preference of your group, hand selecting runs just for you. If the skill level of the family differs, split up into multiple groups but let your guides know that you want to meet up for lunch.

Après: The Mangy Moose , located in the Village, is an all-time family favorite. It’s nothing fancy, but chicken tenders for the kiddos and a burger with a beer on tap for the parents is the only way to finish day one on the mountain.

Tip: Après is a feeling, not a time. When your body, or the kids, tell you it’s time, mosey to the Moose (even if it’s 11am).

Day 2: New Tricks

Breakfast: Waffles at the top of the tram are world-famous, for good reason! Nothing tastes better than a waffle with bacon and peanut butter at 10,000 feet. From there, the expert skiers can start their day at Rendezvous Bowl and the beginners and intermediates can ride back on the tram to access easier sections of the mountain from the base.

Activity: Show off your new tricks by trying your hand at the many sections of JHMR . Beginners, tackle the runs accessed from the Teewinot Chair. Intermediate skiers, spend the morning on Après Vous and the afternoon on Casper. Experts, Thunder and Sublette are your chairs.

Dinner:  From Teton Village, head South on the START bus and you’ll find Calico about 10 minutes away. This Italian-style restaurant is one of the best around and has something for the kids, the parents, and the grandparents.

Activity: Try another winter sport in Jackson Hole – ice skating . The Village turns into a winter wonderland in the evening with ice skating under bistro lights and hot chocolate to keep everyone warm. Ice skate rentals available right at the rink.

Day 3: King of the Mountain

Activity :  Change pace and take on a different mountain. “The Town Hill”, Snow King Mountain , offers awesome skiing and boarding if the family is up for another day. Just head to the backside of the mountain to enjoy sunshine and easy slopes. Even if the family isn’t up for more skiing, Snow King offers snow tubing and an alpine coaster for entertainment that doesn’t require leg muscles.

Lunch:  On the corner of Town Square is one of the best family-friendly restaurants in town – Jackson Drug . A historic drug store and soda shop, the location stays true to its roots with soda, smash burgers, and milkshakes.

Activity:  To wind down from three days of skiing, visit the Teton County Rec Center . For kids, there’s a kiddy pool and a water slide and for adults there’s a hot tub and a sauna. Need we say more?

Dinner:  As you pack and get ready to head out of town, order take-out from Teton Thai . Their flavorful dishes can be ordered mild to spicy and offer heat and comfort for your last meal in Jackson.

Adventure starts here.

From awe-inspiring encounters with nature to wild and western activities every kind, Jackson Hole offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences, 365 days a year.

Eager to glimpse your first bear, moose, or wolf? Challenge yourself with a run down black diamonds or class III rapids? Hook an 18-inch cutthroat? Meet a real cowboy? Watch a Teton sunset? This place is full of experiences you won't find that at home, or anywhere else for that matter. In Jackson Hole, wild adventures aren't just possible—they're already here waiting for you.

History of Tver Oblast

According to archaeological excavations, the first permanent settlement on the territory of the present Tver region existed in the 9th-10th centuries. In the 1130s-1140s, during the struggle of Rostov-Suzdal princes against Novgorod the Great, on the site of the former, unfortified settlement, a new fortress was built - Tver. It was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1208.

As an independent state, the Tver principality was formed in the 1240s-1250s. This initially sparsely populated and relatively remote from the Horde region attracted numerous settlers. From the first decades of its existence, the Tver principality played an important role in the social and political life of the Russian lands.

In the 14th-15th centuries, Tver competed with Moscow for leadership in the unification of Russian lands. It was one of the main centers of handicraft production and international trade. An indicator of the breadth of foreign trade relations of the Tver principality was the famous trip of the Tver resident Afanasy Nikitin to India in 1466-1472.

More historical facts…

In 1485, the Tver principality became part of the Moscow state. The troops of Ivan III, after a three-day siege, captured Tver. In 1569, during the campaign of Ivan the Terrible against Veliky Novgorod, the town was looted by the oprichniks, and, in the Time of Troubles, Tver was burnt by the Poles.

In 1775, the Tver governorate was formed, in 1796 - the Tver guberniya (province). In the second half of the 19th century, the local industry began to develop rapidly facilitated by the construction of the Nikolayev (Oktyabrskaya) railway.

In 1931, Tver received a new name - Kalinin, in honor of Mikhail Kalinin - a Bolshevik revolutionary. In 1935, Kalinin oblast was established. During the Second World War, fierce battles took place on the territory of the region. During the fighting of the initial period of the war, Kalinin, as well as other towns in the region, were almost completely destroyed.

In the post-war period, this region became an important industrial center and transport hub with enterprises of chemical industry, weaving, heavy engineering. In 1990, the historical name was returned to the city, and the region was renamed Tver Oblast.

Tver Oblast is a region in Central Russia , which borders Smolensk Oblast to the southwest, Pskov Oblast to the west, Novgorod Oblast to the north, Vologda Oblast to the northeast, Yaroslavl Oblast to the east, and Moscow Oblast to the southeast.

Map

  • 56.857828 35.921928 1 Tver — the capital and only major city of the region; an ancient city with a prestigious past that once contended with Moscow for control of Russia, that is now a shell of its former self following widespread destruction from cultural vandalism at the hands of the Soviet government and the Nazi Wehrmacht

Other destinations

  • Nilov Monastery — a fantastically beautiful and enormous monastery on Stolbny Island in Lake Seliger ; served as a gulag for many of the Polish prisoners of war who were massacred at Katyn

Russian is the principal language in all aspects of life in the region. However, English is now taught regularly in most Russian schools, and more and more Russians nationals can speak English, some quite fluently.

There is a still vivid Karelian minority (1   %, 6.7   % in 1897), who originally moved here following the Treaty of Stolbova 1617. People in the conceded areas would have to convert to Lutheranism, which was the only legal religion in Sweden – and pay heavy taxes – and many chose to move to land still Russian. There is also a Ukrainian minority (1,5   %).

Tver does have an international airport (Migalovo), but most travelers arrive via the well-traveled railroad running between Saint Petersburg and nearby Moscow .

Within the city limits of Tver, there are several small shuttle vans available and a dated, but generally reliable, electric trolley system, at nominal cost. Commercial taxicabs should be avoided, however, as they can be very expensive, especially if the driver discovers that the passengers are foreigners. There is also a bus service connecting Tver with Moscow. There is also rail service as Tver is a major stop on the regular trains that operate between Moscow and St Petersburg.

Fast food restaurants have taken root in Tver, including fast-food chicken and hamburger outlets. Prices are reasonable in most cases. Some of the independent restaurants tend to be a bit pricey and intentional overcharges often occur, especially if foreigners are the customers.

There are a few nightclubs and restaurants that serve liquor in Tver; however, some of them has cover charges.

  • Novgorod is an easy and rewarding destination to get to from Tver Oblast, which could be done as a day trip.
