El Capitan 9.0.3 A week or so ago, Safari started opening in a small window. Hitting the "green" dot expands it to full screen, but I'm starting to find this very annoying. Anyone know how to make Safari open in full screen mode?

In normal operation, Safari opens the way it was configured when you last Quit the program. Do you use Quit to get out of it? If you just hit the red dot, you have not Quit the program.

I've been randomly getting this as well. It's a bit annoying really.

For me it goes something likes this: Open new Safari window. Resize and move window to your liking. Close window. Every new windows should open in the new size and location. Make sure to do nothing else but opening, resizing & moving, closing. No site loading, no searching.

Its interface will look almost the same as it would in a browser on a PC, but there are some differences to YouTube on a touch screen device in regard to switching to a full-screen mode.

To make the YouTube app play in full-screen mode, choose and open a video. When the video starts playing, tap on it once. You’ll see several additional options, including dual arrows at the bottom right corner. Tap the arrows to go to full screen.

Can't change width of Safari window size

Recently my Mac Air stopped allowing me to change the width of Safari's window size. Height yes, but width no.

From what we can tell, you're unable to adjust the size of windows in Safari on your MacBook Air. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we can help.

"Most windows can be manually resized. Drag the window’s edge (top, bottom, or sides) or double-click an edge to expand that side of the window." With that said, it's possible that the window you're accessing can't be manually resized. Have a look at this link to learn more:

Next, does this happen with all windows in Safari or only on specific pages or websites? Try clearing your Safari history, closing the app, and restarting your Mac to see if that helps. Learn how here:

how to get back to my usual Safari screen ? It's a big blank space side to side & top to bottom.

If you can currently see your menu bar, then just click the "+" in the top-left of the Safari window. Counter-intuitively, it will probably make the window smaller. If you can't see your menu bar, move your mouse all the way to the top-right of your screen, and click the blue icon to take you out of fullscreen.

It sounds as if you are in full-screen mode. Pressing the Esc key should get you back to normal mode. If that doesn't work try moving the mouse pointer to the top right of the screen and clicking on the double diagonal arrow.  

If you can currently see your menu bar, then just click the "+" in the top-left of the Safari window. Counter-intuitively, it will probably make the window smaller. If you can't see your menu bar, move your mouse all the way to the top-right of your screen, and click the blue icon to take you out of fullscreen.
