Kenny Loggins Adds to Final Tour, ‘This Is It’

this is it tour 2023

From the original Jan. 17 press announcement: Loggins first burst on the music scene as half of the hit duo Loggins & Messina and continued with his own successful solo career, during which time he racked up a series of gold and platinum-selling albums and singles. The two-time Grammy winner has earned the nickname of “The Soundtrack King” thanks to his indelible contributions to films such as Caddyshack , Footloose and Top Gun (and now the 2022 blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick ).

“It’s been an amazing journey since starting with Jimmy Messina in 1971, and I’m fortunate to have had such a long touring career,” Loggins says. “I don’t see this as the end of my professional career, but certainly a halt to the grind of major touring.” He stresses that there was no overarching reason to say farewell to touring, other than “after spending a lifetime on the road, I want to have more time at home.”

Loggins, who turned 75 on Jan. 7, has sold over 25 million albums worldwide thanks to such as big hits as “I’m Alright,” “Footloose,” “Danger Zone,” and, of course, “This Is It,” among many others.

Loggins collaboration with Jim Messina includes “Danny’s Song,” “House at Pooh Corner,” “Love Song” and “Your Mama Don’t Dance” – as well as his smash duet with Stevie Nicks, “Whenever I Call You Friend” and the rock radio favorite, “Don’t Fight It,” on which he teamed up with Steve Perry.

“I’ll be playing songs that I feel sum up the emotional story of my music,” Loggins says about the upcoming stage show. “This will include 90 percent of the hits and 10 or so percent of the deeper cuts.”

Watch Loggins perform the tour’s namesake

As for possible guests on the “This Is It” tour, Loggins hints that fans can expect some surprises. “We’ve been talking about it,” he says. “We’re hoping to have some of my longtime friends sit in whenever possible.”

I believe Kenny opened for Fleetwood Mac on a tour in the late 70s. His was definitely the better show, at least the night I saw them in the fall of 1977.

Kenny, Loved seeing you a few years ago at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga… I hope to see you in October at Saratoga Mountain Winery… Earlier on I saw you at “Day on the Green” in Oakland when teaming with Messina… ALWAYS A FAN!!!

And for such a high-profile goodbye from the music biz — the man penned the themes to “Caddyshack” AND “Top Gun” — tickets are going for surprisingly reasonable prices .

At the time of publication, we found some tickets going for as low as $46 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Kenny Loggins 2023 “This Is It” Tour Was a Hit

this is it tour 2023

The Grammy award winning singer Kenny Loggins took the stage at the Mohegan Sun Arena on September 14th for his 2023 “This Is It” tour and gave the crowd a concert they are sure to remember. Loggins has been a crowd pleaser and hit artist since the 70’s and continues to be popular even though he has decided to stop full-time touring at the end of this one.

“It’s been an amazing journey since starting with Jimmy Messina in 1971, and I’m fortunate to have had such a long touring career,” Loggins said in a statement on his  website . “I don’t see this as the end of my professional career, but certainly a halt to the grind of major touring.”

this is it tour 2023

Loggins and his band launched the concert with “Keep the Fire.” Then onto “Heart to Heart” which he co-wrote with Michael McDonald. He continued his collaboration with McDonald when they got together again and wrote the “This Is It.” The duo won a Grammy for “This Is It,” although they didn’t write more together it launched Loggins into a new phase of his career.

this is it tour 2023

Loggins’ band is a blend of excellent musicians from all over the country. They included guitarist Scott Bernard, drummer David Salinas, keyboardist Rob Arthur, guitarist Rick Cowlin, bassist Wade Biery and on Saxaphone was David Freeman.

this is it tour 2023

Loggins’ voice has aged well and at 75 he still sounded wonderful as he sang many crowd-pleasing songs like “Heart to Heart” and “Keep the Fire. ” He and the band made beautiful melodies and meshed well together.

He told a few short stories as he introduced some of the songs and you could tell he was reflecting on his life and career that has spanned many decades. It must be an emotional thing knowing you have decided to hang up the touring life that becomes ingrained in so many performers. But, making the right choice to spend time with family is one many can appreciate and applaud. He also has mentioned before he plans to continue to stay active in the music industry and mentor younger singers. He is also going to produce music without the added strain of touring.

He reflected on the love of family and its meaning prior to singing “Return to Pooh Corner” and how now there is more meaning now that it involved his grandchildren not just children. The audience of course sang right along with him on the song that most know every word to all the songs he played at this performance.

this is it tour 2023

By the time Loggins ended the show and came back for the encore the audience was still wanting more. As the first few notes of the encore “Danger Zone” started part of the crowd that was not already up and standing jumped to their feet to cheer the band on through the song which then led straight into “Footloose” and the crowd was dancing in the isles clapping and singing along. Loggins and the band just amped it up with the crowd clearly and pleased with the reaction to the songs.

this is it tour 2023

To end a touring career with such fun and a great concert is a treat. He is going out in style and I’m so glad to be able to go full circle from seeing him in concert in the mid 1970’s seeing one of his final tour dates decades later. I’m glad to have taken this journey with Kenny Loggins all these years.

When Kate Stables decided to put together a band back in 2003, they named it This Is The Kit, and started to make beautiful alternative folk rock music. What is unique about the band is that sometimes it is a duo, and other times a quintet. It is dependably Kate Stables on vocals, banjo or guitar, and Jesse Vernon on bass, guitar or violin. Other times they are joined by Rozi Plain or the Liftmen (Neil Smith and Philip Sirop).

The Bristol based band plays smaller, more intimate venues, which are ideal for the type of music that they produce. The small venue adds to the homeliness that you get not just from the music, but from their look as well. The particular show that I was able to watch, Stables and Vernon were joined by drummer Jamie Whitby-Coles (who was introduced by the very sweet and soft-spoken Stables). Their live show really is best enjoyed during the wintertime with a hot cup of tea; because you absolutely fall into a place of peacefulness. To top that, the personality types are so timid, yet passionate when they perform. The chemistry that they have with each other, as well as with the audience is indescribable.

Been a while since I've seen an intimate folk show. This felt like a special one. The performance was great. lead singer was charming and sung and played beautifully. the lead guitar player was tasteful and in interesting, adding layers of depth to the songs with textures and soundscapes. Rhythm section was solid, with the drummer really doing a standout job with dynamics and energy. The band moved from naked folk songs to groove driven alt folk goodness that really got into my bones. Loved it.

From a technical standpoint the sound was really great – well balanced, crisp vocals, nicely blended drums without the stupid "authoritative" cannon of a kick drum that is so common with deaf and under-confident mixers. And best of all I didn't have to wear ear plugs, so I could actually hear what I went to see as it was intended to be heard. THANK YOU to the house mixer at the Fox!

Such an incredible night! So much amazing and unexpected support acts. This is the kit is my absolute favourite band ever, I've seen them before at the scala which was also great but this performance sent shivers down my spine as I watched and drank my hot chocolate! Rozi plain, and Rachel dadd are two of my other favourite acts and I had no idea they would be performing. So great that everyone joined in on eachothers acts as well - it gave off a very comforting 'family' feel.

It was the first time I've heard fantasy orchestra, but they were incredible! I'll definitely go and see them again soon.

Thanks for such a fun night

Kate (Kit) is one of the most-talented singers, guitarists and songwriters I've ever seen ...and, as a musician, fan, and Berklee employee, I've seen quite a few. Her core bandmates are also excellent - imaginative and musically-sophisticated. The trio has incredible musical chemistry. It's astonishing to witness such beauty in the small confines of Great Scott. This is the Kit is deserving of a much-larger audience, which the people at last night's show no-doubt realized. I don't think I've ever heard such enthusiastic applause in that venue. Congrats on the new album, Kit. It's an incredible achievement!

bob-melvin’s profile image

Absolutely beautiful gig, the highlight of which was Kate Stables and Rozi Plain coming together round one mic to sing some soaring acapella harmonies which seamlessly flowed into the unmistakable opening chords of Earthquake. Just stunning. I'm so sorry so many people saw fit to chat loudly throughout the whole set - it was off putting for those of us who came to hear the music, so it must've been extremely distracting for the band. Made me ashamed of our city :( Sorry Kate and the rest of the band.

Guildford Boileroom lived up to it's name on this hot July night. High temperature didn't put off performers and an enthusiastic crowd. A band of compelling musicians fronted by Kate Staples gave a outstanding performance. An impressive songstress supported by meaningful musicianship. Loved every song performed with an extra unplugged encore. Post show Kate came out and signed album sleeves which was a lovely touch. Looking forward to your return when you play Ramsgate Music Hall hopefully soon.

Brilliant, multi-talented musicians - great left field music ... relaxed and a bit quirky - my kind of thing.... played all the good stuff... Kate Stables and Rozi Plain play as tho they're in your front room - humorous and a little bit angry, but in a nice way!

Love love the venue, didn't see as it was packed and I cannot stand but out back is a lovely area for a tasty cuppa. This is the kit were so Brilliant and friendly. They have a real jaunty charm and Rozi is a starlet. 5 star.

Oller: 'Hurry up and hit it!' Slow play reminds golfers of frustrations on own golf course

this is it tour 2023

Follow along with live updates from the final round of the 2023 Memorial Tournament.

Patrick Cantlay’s putter might as well be a pendulum swinging back and forth inside a grandfather clock, measuring time by the minutes it takes him to strike the ball.

His wiggling and waggling when standing over a putt, before finally pulling the blade back into pinball launch position, is maddening to witness. Playing the first two rounds of the Memorial Tournament with Billy Horschel and Hideki Matsuyama , Cantlay consistently took longer than his playing partners after settling over his ball at address.

Memorial Tournament: What do the yellow ribbons at the Memorial Tournament final round mean?

At least the two-time Memorial winner is not a calendar whose timetable is counted in days, weeks and months, even if sometimes it feels that way.

2023 Memorial Tournament: Memorial Tournament pairings, tee times, TV info for Sunday's final round

Slow play is a hot topic on the PGA Tour, and Cantlay is the poster snail, his sluggish pace of play, mostly around the green, a burning issue during the Masters, when millions of TV viewers – and fast-moving Brooks Koepka playing in the group behind him – wanted to scream, “Hurry up, already.”

But while Cantlay is at the center of the slow play discussion, my thoughts on the subject go against the grain of those wringing their hands over concern that he and other slowpoke compadres create a negative perception that endangers fan interest and jeopardizes the health of the tour.

My alternative take goes like this: slow play is not an alarming issue for the tour, but instead an individual frustration for fans.

Memorial: Oller: Jack Nicklaus nails it; Slow play on PGA Tour is a poor form of selfishness.

Allow me to explain. Pace of play matters little on TV, which is how most fans watch golf tournaments. It doesn’t matter that amateur sensation Sam Bennett took forever to hit his approach shots at Muirfield Village Golf Club, regripping his club four and five times before beginning his backswing, because his group was not featured on the broadcast. If you don’t see slow play, does it really exist? Plus, TV minimizes the visual effects of slow play by cutting from player to player, a kind of slow-play sleight of hand.

Memorial: Jason Day, Cameron Young among golfers who missed the cut at the 2023 Memorial

As for slow play turning 4½-hour rounds into fivers, who besides the TV crew trying to make their dinner reservations really cares? I watch golf and seldom think, ‘This is taking too long. Time to mow the grass.’ I only exit the broadcast early if the leaderboard is a “Who’s He?” more than a Who’s Who.

The reality is that amateur golfers of my ilk like to complain about slow play because we project our own wait-on-every-shot experiences onto the tour pros who remind us of that agonizingly slow foursome playing in front of us, the one we blame for turning our coulda-been-a-82 into a more realistic 95.

We can’t stand watching Cantlay take forever over a putt because we’ve been stuck behind a high-handicap iteration of him at our muni or country club.

Memorial: Second-round Memorial Tournament leader Justin Suh looks poised for breakthrough

Of course, many of us are the slow player we despise, but in our lack of self-awareness we justify our slog pace as inevitable, blaming it on failing to find our ball in the too-thick rough or after searching those inconveniently-placed woods (beware the poison ivy, people).

But despite taking entirely too long to look for balls and not being ready to hit when it is our turn, there are times when we play at an acceptable pace only to slam up against a) saunterers who move at the speed of glacial melt; b) multiple riding carts criss-crossing the fairway 200 yards away; and c) the Rory McIlroy wannabe who waits to hit his second shot on a par-5 despite being 320 yards from the green.

Such scar tissue, mostly formed through our impatience, causes us to go berserk when we see Cantlay shift his weight for a fifth time on the green, or Keegan Bradley advancing and retreating in the fairway like a shy middle school boy practicing to ask a girl on a date, or rolling our eyes when Viktor Hovland and an increasing number of others test a green’s slope by straddling the putting line and rocking side to side as if trying to maintain balance on a boat in choppy waters.

Memorial: Justin Suh tops leaderboard and more stories from Round 2 at Muirfield

Does that mean it is perfectly fine for tour players to take their sweet time whenever they want? No. There is something called consideration of others that should enter a slow player’s thinking, whether in contention on Sunday or grinding to make the cut.

Plus, what player wants to hear snarky comments about his laggardly play? Cantlay can’t enjoy reading how the sponsor name on his golf bag should be changed from DeWalt to DeWait. But he can silence his critics in one easy - and quicker - step. Pick up the pace.

Pearl Jam brings world tour home to Seattle for two sold-out shows

Seattle's mayor officially declared May 28 " Pearl Jam Day " as the legendary hometown band brought their 'Dark Matter World Tour' to Climate Pledge Arena for the first of two sold-out shows.

It's been 11 years since the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers played under the KeyArena roof that now covers Climate Pledge Arena. Fans camped out early to snag a spot near the stage and score limited-edition merch on Tuesday.

Dark Matter , Pearl Jam's 12th studio album, has been well-received by critics and fans. It emotes feelings of longing, questioning, and finding one's own truth. The 2024 tour launched in Vancouver, B.C. on May 4 and weaves along the West Coast before heading overseas.

With a 30-year discography, Pearl Jam has opened with a different song on each night of the tour. This production is unlike previous tours, bringing fans closer to the stage and creating an intimate experience among an attendance of 14,000.

Pearl Jam's choice of Seattle indie-rock duo, Deep Sea Diver, as the opening act came as no surprise. Lead singer Jessica Dobson opened for the band as a solo artist for several shows last year.

Deep Sea Diver's energetic 30-minute set was a mix of hits from their decades-long catalog. Dobson's ethereal movements created a dream-like state as she softly sang their band's first song, "Lights Out." Switching gears, she skipped around for "Wide Awake." Dobson, illuminated in hues of red and green, smiled along with the crowd and gave thanks to the fans and Pearl Jam in between songs.

Pearl Jam started their 2.5-hour set almost completely in the dark. Cloaked in shadows, the band entered the stage in silhouette, led by lead singer Eddie Vedder and followed by Jeff Ament (bass), Mike McCready (lead guitar), Matt Cameron (drums) and Stone Gossard (guitar), plus the band's long time touring musicians, Kenneth "Boom" Gaspar (keys/piano) and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar, percussion, keys).

The multigenerational crowd screamed as the opening chords to "Release" began as the darkened profile of Vedder drank from a bottle of wine. If this was your first Pearl Jam show, you were in for a treat as the band played some of their greatest hits coupled with older tracks rarely heard live, such as "I am Mine,", "Satan's Bed" and "Man of the Hour," which was dedicated to Bill Walton, late Celtics basketball Hall of Famer and long time friend of the band.

Vedder paid his respects to another basketball great, retired Seattle Storm star Sue Bird. Standing under her retired jersey Vedder pointed to the arena's ceiling, saying: "This song is about a woman finding her own power. This song is called 'Waiting for Stevie.'"

There's always been a connection between Pearl Jam and sports. In fact, their debut album Ten was named after basketball great Mookie Blaylock. Vedder even pointed out those in attendance wearing #10 Sonics jerseys.

Vedder asked the crowd if they were tired and, "Do you need to get up early?" Then all the house lights came on and hands went up for the band's smash hit, "Alive." Personally, the song hits differently at almost 50 than at 17. Nevertheless, a truly cathartic experience; one of the moments where the whole crowd is one, singing with their neighbors, and all that matters is the music and being present.

After a quick wardrobe change, Vedder returned to the stage wearing a Seattle Kraken jersey and welcomed Deep Sea Diver back for an encore and the Jimi Hendrix classic "Little Wing," one of Pearl Jam's most popular covers and where lead guitarist Mike McCready's technical genius shines.

Before leaving the stage, Vedder spoke one last time to the crowd, "Let's make this an occurrence! See you Thursday!"

Defending champ’s wife goes skydiving at RBC Canadian Open

Andie taylor’s observation sparked husband nick’s dramatic turnaround in 2023.

Change Text Size

ANCASTER, Ontario – Andie Taylor’s keen observations from afar sparked her husband Nick’s historic RBC Canadian Open victory a year ago.

The roles were reversed Wednesday, a day before Taylor begins a historic RBC Canadian Open title defense. Andie Taylor went skydiving from 12,000 feet, landing on an adjacent fairway at Hamilton Golf and Country Club (the club has three nines, one of which is unused for tournament play).

Andie Taylor was joined by Lona Dahmen (wife of Joel) in Wednesday’s skydive in southern Ontario, a tournament tradition in conjunction with the Canadian military. Jessica Hadwin (wife of Adam) was originally scheduled to join Andie in the skydive, but she couldn’t make it at the last minute. Andie recruited Lona, who quickly accepted.

Nick Taylor had completed his pro-am round and was on the scene, observing the landing in real-time (several SkyHawks, members of the Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team, also participated in the dive). Joel Dahmen followed along during his pro-am round, utilizing binoculars.

Lona joked afterward that she would skydive every day if she could – Andie wasn’t so sure. Nonetheless it was a shared family experience that accents a unique week, as Nick Taylor prepares to defend his historic title. Last year, he became the first Canadian winner of the RBC Canadian Open since Pat Fletcher in 1954, defeating Tommy Fleetwood with a 72-foot eagle on the fourth playoff hole. The victory resonated across the entirety of Canada – stories included farmer Brian Harder in Saskatchewan, so excited that he nearly crashed his tractor while streaming the action. The ‘I” in the “RBC Canadian Open” logo is now a silhouette of Taylor’s instant reaction to the winning putt, tossing his putter in near-bewilderment.

That victory might not have happened without Andie’s keen observation while watching competition from home on the Thursday of last year’s RBC Canadian Open. Taylor made a closing double bogey for an opening 75 at Oakdale Golf & Country Club, and not only was he far from contention, his chances of playing the weekend were slim. (Of the 886 times a player opened a TOUR event in 75 or higher last year, 790 either missed the cut, withdrew or were disqualified. Only five finished in the top 10, and Taylor was the only winner.)

During a phone conversation that evening, Andie told her husband to lighten up a bit. It was his home open, after all. Enjoy it.

“It just looks like you’ve not having fun,” Andie told her husband, who relayed the story Wednesday in Hamilton. “You and (caddie) Dave (Markle) go be yourself tomorrow; cut it out essentially.”

“I knew my game was in a good spot,” Taylor continued. “It was a weird day and weird mindset … it was a bit of a mindset change, really having nothing to lose starting Friday. I knew I needed to shoot at least 4 under to make the cut; I was kind of like, ‘Alright, better play well.’

“(The start) was disappointing in a sense for a lot of reasons, because you want to play well at this event especially. I had really nothing to lose that Friday, and that was a good mindset to be in. Be aggressive.”

Taylor took his wife’s words to heart, and he closed in rounds of 67-63-66 to earn a playoff spot at 17 under, then authored an iconic winning moment as an adoring nation looked on.

Taylor, 36, didn’t stop there. He won this year’s WM Phoenix Open (also in a playoff), further solidifying a clutch gene that was seen 10 years ago, when he carded a final-round 63 at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship to solidify his first PGA TOUR card. He stands No. 32 on the FedExCup and is well positioned to represent Canada in this summer’s Olympic Games and at this fall’s Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal.

Could he also go back-to-back at his national open? Sky’s the limit.

Travis Kelce Smiles When Asked About Marrying Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce had a subtle reaction to inquiries about his next steps with girlfriend Taylor Swift .

"Hey, Travis, real talk. It's just us guys here," Jason Sudeikis asked during a sketch at the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend charity event in Kansas City on Saturday, June 1, per social media footage. "When are you gonna make an honest woman out of [her]?"

Kelce, 34, sat across the table from Sudeikis, 48, and was seen laughing and smiling at the joke.

"Taylor doesn't need to be working anymore. And again, I know your kicker agrees with me," Sudeikis joked, referring to Harrison Butker 's controversial graduation speech about women giving up careers to be homemakers. "He gets it."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Relationship Timeline

Sudeikis and his fellow panelists continued to poke fun at Kelce's romance with Swift, 34, before the Kansas City Chiefs tight end silenced their line of questioning.

"Guys, you're really pushing it," Kelce sarcastically replied.

Kelce has been dating Swift since summer 2023. Despite nearly reaching their first anniversary, they are not currently planning a wedding.

"Travis has no plans on proposing to Taylor anytime soon," a source exclusively told Us Weekly in May. "It's not even on his radar. Marriage is something he takes very seriously and not something he would ever just jump into without giving it some careful consideration."

That being said, Kelce does care "very deeply" about Swift but isn't ready to get down on one knee just yet, according to the insider.

A second source previously told Us in January that Kelce and Swift " still have so much to learn about each other" before walking down the aisle.

Everything the Chiefs Athletes Have Said About Meeting Taylor Swift

"Travis and Taylor have no plans on getting engaged this summer," the source explained at the time. "Things between them are going amazing, but they haven't even been together for a year yet."

Kelce and Swift have fueled engagement speculation throughout the spring as she dropped several songs on April's The Tortured Poets Department about their romance and he joined her on the road. The pop star kicked off the European leg of her Eras Tour last month in Paris, which Kelce attended.

"Taylor's shows are unbelievable," Kelce exclusively gushed to Us at his Kelce Jam festival later that month. "If you haven't been to them, you got to try it."

Kelce has attended several of Swift's overseas concerts between his work commitments.

"He wants to support her as much as he can while he can, so he's going to [go] back and forth from the U.S. to Europe while he has the time," a third source told Us in May. "For now, [Travis] can arrange his schedule to be with [Taylor]."

Kelce is currently in his NFL offseason but recently began team OTA practices . The Chiefs kick off the 2024-2025 season on September 5 with a home opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
