How to Edit Word Brochure Templates

If you’re not using an online brochure maker , a Word template can work well. What makes Word templates more useful is that they can be easily customized to your preference even without expert experience. You can change colors, fonts, font sizes, and images however you like with just a few clicks. Here’s how to get started.

Find your downloaded template file on your computer. Word templates come in DOCX file format. If your downloaded file is a ZIP file, simply right-click on the file and choose UnZIP or Extract and then you’ll be able to find the DOCX file in the extracted folder.

Once you locate the DOCX file, double-click on it to open the file in Microsoft Word. That’s it! Now you can start editing the template.

Create a booklet using a Word template

Whether you want to create a book project for school or a booklet for an event, consider using a booklet template available in the publishing templates collection . You can customize the booklet templates to fit your needs. For best results, customize the template before you start your writing project. That way there’s less clean-up work to do if tables or other objects in your document don’t fit quite right.

Create a booklet using a template

Go to File > New .

Type booklet in the search box and select the search icon.

When you find the template you want to use, select it and choose Create .

Click File > Save a copy to save your booklet.

To print your booklet, go to File > Print . Booklet templates are designed to make sure the page sequence and orientation will be correct if you print them on both sides of the paper, flipped along the short edge.

If you have a double sided printer, just print the document. If you have a single sided printer:

Go to File > Print .

Change the setting to Manual Print on Both Sides .

Print one side.

When prompted, remove the printed pages and put them back into the input tray.

Important:  Note the side and orientation of the printed pages, and flip it accordingly. If in doubt, print just 4 pages as a test. So if you get it wrong, you only waste one sheet of paper.

Go to File > New from Template .

In the top right corner of the window, type booklet where you see Search All Templates . You'll find several options from templates.office.com.

When you find the template you want to use, double-click it, or select it and click Create .

The template is downloaded to Word, and you are ready to begin working on your booklet.

Click File > Save As to save your booklet.

Note:  If you want to print your booklet, click File > Print . Booklet templates are designed to make sure the page sequence and orientation will be correct if you print them on both sides of the paper, flipped along the short edge.

In addition to using one of many available templates, you can also build your own brochure directly in Word. Here's how.

Create a brochure using templates, create a brochure from scratch.

Brochures are a handy marketing tool used by nearly every company in existence. Creating them takes only a few minutes, and you can do it directly in Word using a template or from scratch. Here’s how.

The easiest way to create a brochure is by using one of the many available templates that Word has to offer.

To get started with a template, open a new document, type “Brochure” in the template search box, then press the “Enter” key. Word’s large library of brochure templates will appear. Select one that you like.

Once selected, a banner that contains information about the template will appear. Read through the information and then select the “Create” button.

Now all you need to do is insert the relevant text and images in the template placeholders and then start distributing the brochure.

If you couldn’t find a template that was just right for you, you can just make one from scratch.

With your new blank document open, head over to the “Layout” tab. Here, select the “Orientation” option found in the “Page Setup” section. From the drop-down menu that appears, select “Landscape,” which is the necessary orientation for tri-folds.

Next, let’s give ourselves a little more room to work with by reducing the page margins. To do this, head back over to the “Page Setup” group of the “Layout” tab and select the “Margins” button.

For brochures, it’s generally a good idea to keep the page margins at 0.5” or less. Selecting the “Narrow” option from the drop-down menu is the quick solution. If you want to decrease the margins even more, you can select “Custom Margins” and input your ideal size.

Now it’s time to add columns to our brochure to break the page up in different sections. Back in the “Page Setup” group of the “Layout” tab, select the “Columns” button.

A drop-down menu will appear. Here, select the column structure from the list that you’d like to use or explore more options by choosing the “More Columns” option.

With the layout ready, all that’s left to do is insert your images (by selecting an option from the “Illustrations” group and choosing the graphic) and add text. Once finished, your brochures will be ready for distribution.

If you want to create a booklet in Word, you can either format your document manually or make a quick and easy booklet using a template. You’ll also need to make some adjustments to your print setup to ensure that your booklet prints out correctly . In this article, we’ll talk you through how to correctly format and print a booklet in Word. These methods work for Word 2013, Word 2016, Word 2019, Word 2021, and Word for Microsoft 365 for both Windows and Mac.

How do you make a booklet in Word?

• Use the Margins options in the Layout tab to manually format your document as a booklet.
• You can also create a booklet from a premade template using Word’s template search.
• Enable double-sided printing if your printer is set up for it, or print each page manually on both sides.

• If your document is really long, you can use the Sheets per booklet menu underneath the Multiple pages menu to break it up into multiple booklets. Select how many pages you want each booklet to contain, or choose All to include all the pages in one booklet.

• There’s no single gutter size that works perfectly for all booklets, but most experts recommend a gutter margin of at least .5 inches (1.3 cm).

• Keep in mind that using the Book fold format will automatically change the orientation of your document to Landscape and print 2 pages on each side of the paper. Once your booklet is bound, each page will be half the size of the selected paper size.
• While you can set the orientation of your booklet to Portrait in the Page Setup menu, doing so will split your pages half-way down the page so that your book opens vertically, like a calendar. To create a tall, narrow booklet, select Portrait Orientation from the Print menu instead.

• You can also use this tab to add line numbers and edit the header and footer formatting.

• Make sure you have the Margins tab selected in the dialog box that opens up.

• As a general rule, a gutter size of .5 inches (1.3 cm) works well for most booklets.

• You can also view the Page Setup options by opening the File menu, then selecting Page Setup .

• The search results will populate as soon as you finish typing. You don’t have to click anything or press Return .

• If you don’t have a printer that can automatically print on both sides of the paper, select Manually Print on Both Sides instead. You’ll need to flip each page over on the short edge and reload it when prompted to print on the other side.

• If you don’t have a printer hooked up that can do two-sided printing, you won’t be able to enable this option. You will need to print each page manually, one at a time, instead. Flip each page over on the short edge and reload it to print the next page on the other side.
