The public bus system in Jeju reaches into the far corners of the island, and it is a great option if you’re looking for a slower pace of travel to enjoy the sights and scenery.

The public bus system in Jeju reaches into the far corners of the island, and it is a great option if you’re looking for a slower pace of travel to enjoy the sights and scenery. If you’re coming to Jeju for a walking tour on the Olle Walking Trails, buses may be the best mode of transportation for you. 

Whatever you’re in Jeju to do, the ease and affordability of public buses will make it a great choice all-around.

In 2017, the provincial government completely revised and expanded the public bus system to make it bigger, better, and easier to use. Buses and bus stops are equipped with free, stable WiFi, and many bus stops on the island also have touch-screen displays showing you the current status of the buses en route. 

There are several bus apps you can download, like the free real-time bus app provided by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province which has options for Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese. KakaoMap is another great app with a real-time bus layer with services provided in Korean and English. A helpful bus route map can be downloaded on our website.

Red buses are express buses that link up all 4 cardinal points of the island and are numbered in the 100s. Red buses are a great way to save time on travel because they skip many of the local stops and only service key destinations, like transit centers and popular tourist attractions. 

Blue buses are intercity and city buses and are numbered in the 200, 300, and 500s. 

Green buses are branch buses numbered in the 400, 600, and 700s. These buses are also known as “village buses”, and they have shorter routes and travel smaller roads in the cities or villages in the country. These buses may travel less frequently, so wait times may be long.

Airport limousine buses are large buses with a compartment for luggage that travel between the airport and Seogwipo with few stops in between. There are 3 airport limousine buses: bus nos. 600, 800, and 800-1. All three buses travel to Seogwipo on the west side of Hallasan Mountain. The 600 goes through Jungmun Tourist Complex and ends at Seogwipo KAL Hotel. Expect about a 50-minute from the airport to Jungmun and an 80-minute ride to the KAL Hotel.

Both the 800 and 800-1 skip over Jungmun and go straight toward Seogwipo City. Bus no. 800 ends at the Seogwipo Bust Terminal with a total ride time of about 70 minutes. Bus no. 800-1 ends at the Jungang Rotary in the center of Seogwipo City with a total ride time of about 80 minutes.

For the sake of convenience and cost, a transportation card, like Tmoney, is highly recommended.  A Tmoney card can be purchased and refilled at any major convenience store and can be used throughout Korea on buses, subways, and taxis. You also get free transfers with a card, up to 2 times within 40 minutes of getting off your first bus. Keep in mind, you must swipe the card again as you get off, and free transfers will not apply if you get back on the same bus route/number.

Pro Tip : You can pay for multiple people on a single card. Simply let the driver know how many people are boarding, then wait for his cue to swipe! Free transfers will not be eligible if you use this method.

Airport limousines and express buses charge slightly more than trunkline buses. If paying by transportation card, fares start at a base rate of ₩2,000 ($1.60 USD) for adults, ₩1,600 for youth aged 13 to 18, and ₩1,000 for children aged 6 to 12. These prices apply for the first 5 km, after which the price will increase incrementally to a maximum of ₩3,000 for adults ₩2,400 for youth, and ₩1,500 for children. The difference will be taken out of your card when you swipe to disembark. If paying by cash, the maximum fare must be paid upon boarding.

Aside from the Jeju International Airport, there are 4 major transit hubs on the island: Jeju Bus Terminal (north), Seogwipo Bus Terminal (south), Daecheon Transit Center (east), and Donggwang Transit Center (west). The Jeju and Seogwipo Bus Terminals are convenient places to find an express bus to help you travel longer distances more quickly. The Daecheon and Donggwang Transit Centers in the east and west, respectively, are where you want to go to transfer to the Tourist Shuttle Buses. The Daecheon and Donggwang centers look just like a normal bus stop but with a small, attached office to purchase tourist shuttle bus tickets.

Operating times will vary by bus and route. In general, buses begin running at around 6 a.m., and the last bus departs for its final route at around 10 p.m. Intervals between buses will also vary by location and route. Many city buses run very frequently, so you will not have to wait long before the next bus arrives. However, if you are outside of the city and away from major tourist attractions, expect to wait up to an hour or more.

Korean map apps are very useful and are highly recommended for your trip in general. They will come in especially handy if you plan on using public transportation. Kakao Map can not only search bus routes for you, but it has a bus layer that you can toggle on that shows you where buses are in real-time. This comes in handy when you’re waiting or searching for a bus, but it’s also very useful to track your location when you’re on a bus and you’re not sure when to get off. Remember, every bus is equipped with free WiFi, so using navigation apps on the bus will be a breeze!

Tourist shuttle buses are not for general travel, as it only stops at major tourist attractions. However, you are free to hop on if it’s going your way! A tour guide on board will narrate a tour in Korean with brief descriptions about each spot. While the guide is only in Korean, there are TV screens at the front of the bus that tells you which stop is next in both Korean and English, along with a voiced announcement in English. The tour guide will also let you know if the place you’re stopping at is closed for the day, which will save you the trouble of finding out for yourself. The bus fare is the same as public buses with an added option of purchasing a full day pass for ₩3,000 ($2.50 USD). You can purchase these at the connecting transit center (Daecheon or Donggwang). There are 2 routes: bus nos. 810 and 820.

Bus no. 810   circles the east side of the island which is known for its beautiful volcanic cones, or oreums. The travel route winds its way through some of the most iconic oreums on the island, and you can experience the beauty of oreums in one shot simply by taking this bus. Bus 810-1 travels clockwise and 810-2 goes counter-clockwise. Daecheon Transit Center is the first and last stop on the route and where you can purchase a day-pass bracelet. You can also pick up pamphlets in English that will help you navigate the route. It stops at locations such as the World Natural Heritage Center, Darangswi Oreum Volcanic Cone, and Maze Land.

Bus no. 820 will give you a look at the quirkier side of the island. The 820 circles the west side of the island, well known for its museums. The connecting transit center, Donggwang, looks identical to Daecheon Transit Center. The office is a small extension of the bus stop that’s recognizable by its black windows. You can choose which direction you want to go: bus no. 820-1 travels counter-clockwise, and bus no. 820-2 travels in a clockwise route.

The double-decker Jeju City Tour Bus travels only within Jeju City, highlighting some of the most popular sites and scenery. The tour guide on board will be able to speak English and at least one other language that they specialize in, including Chinese, Japanese, and Thai.  After doing some shopping and eating in the city, you can make a stop at the beach to enjoy a cup of coffee with a view of blue skies and sea. The bus will dock at every port stop (bus and ferry terminals) until the officially scheduled departure time, so it will stay very close to scheduled service times for every stop - no need to worry about random arrival times!

The double-decker Jeju City Tour Bus also offers a nighttime tour on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets can only be purchased in advance on their website. This is the perfect tour to hit up some of the most scenic and photogenic views in Jeju City as the sun is setting, which is great for getting that beautiful golden glow in all your photos. When the weather is nice, you’ll also be making a stop on the coast for a cute nighttime picnic that the tour sets up for you.

The city of Seogwipo on the south side of the island also has a city bus tour that travels through the original city center. It’s not a double decker bus, but keeping in line with Jeju Island’s commitment to going carbon-free, it is an electric bus for public use. Bus no. 880 starts and ends at the Seogwipo Hyangto 5-Day Market, and takes you on a tour that includes some of Jeju Island’s greatest natural wonders, like Oedolgae Rock and Cheonjiyeon Falls. If you’re short on time or you want a tour that’s already curated, this one is a must-do!

There are 2 types of city tour bus on Jejuisland; Jeju City Tour bus and Seogwipo City Tour bus. Jeju City Tour bus will introduce you the city’s major attractions, and Seogwipo City Tour Bus, the island’s first EV tour bus, will bring you Seogwipo City’s major scenic points.

1. Jeju City Tour Bus

The Jeju City Tour Bus is a combination of the previous city tour buses operated by the city of Jeju and the foreigner-exclusive Golden Tour Bus, operated by Jeju Tourism Association. The bus runs nine times a day, starting at 09:00. One cycle takes around two hours to complete, with buses running in one hour intervals. The Bus departs from Jeju International Airport and visits some of Jeju City’s most popular attractions. The course includes Jeju Bus Terminal, Samseonghyeol, Sarabong Peak, Jeju Ferry Passenger Terminal, Dongmun Traditional Market, Tapdong Plaza, Yongyeon Cloud Bridge, Eoyeong Coastal Road, Dodubong Peak, IhoTewoo Beach, Jeju Folk 5-day Market, and Halla Arboretum. Fares are divided into single-ride and one-day tickets. The fare for all single-ride passengers, regardless of age, is 3,000 won. The fare for a one-day ticket is as follows: 12,000 won for adults, 8,000 won for teenagers & children, and free for infants under 48 months.

2. SeogwipoCity Tour Bus (Electric Bus , Bus No. 880)

The Seogwipo City Tour Bus is the island’s first EV tour bus operated by the city of Seogwipo. The bus runs three times a day, starting at 09:00. The Bus departs from Seogwipo 5-Day Market, SeogwipoMaeil (Everyday) Olle Market, Arangjoeul Food Street, Oedolgae Rock, Lee Jung-seob Art Street, Cheonjiyeon Falls, Seobok Exhibition Hall, and Jeongbang Falls. Fares are 1,200 won (1,150 won with T-money card), which is same as normal buses. (No transfer discounts)

1. Jeju Bus Tour: Southeast Course Overview

The Southeast Course is ideal if you want to get a good mix of Jeju’s natural beauty. This tour will take you to lush forests, scenic coasts, and an Insta-worthy cafe. Here’s a quick overview:

The first stop is the Jeju Pony Range . Here you can get up close with the island’s horses, which locals consider special since they were once given as gifts to Korean royalties. You’ll be allowed to feed the Jeju horses here, however you will not be able to ride them. Before you leave, don’t forget to capture the beautiful Hallasan or Halla Mountain that you can view from this pony range!

The second stop for this Jeju tour is Cafe Gallery . This is great if you want to grab some coffee and toast to fully perk up your senses (the bus leaves at 9am). But unlike your typical coffee shop, Cafe Gallery has a nice little forest that has become quite the popular photo zone.

Next up is Namwon Keuneong Promenade . This is a nice cliffside attraction that’s frequented by Jeju residents for its superb and romantic views. Here you can take a leisurely walk and admire the blue sea. You can also strike a pose on top of or by the giant rocks for that picture-perfect holiday photo.

The fourth stop is the beautiful Soesokkak Estuary , which is my favorite. I love the tangerine scent here, as well as the vibrant colors of the forest. You’ll reach the estuary right around lunch time, which means that you can have a meal here and enjoy the impressive views.

After having your fill, you’ll then proceed to the Citrus Museum . Citrus is Jeju’s specialty product, so you’ll get to try the island’s fruits here. You’ll find the museum pretty informative, but I think people enjoy frolicking in the citrus gardens more!

The last two stops of this Southeast Jeju Tour are the KAL Hotel Gardens and the Sojeongbang Falls . KAL’s fields are quite spectacular; it’s exactly how I’ve always pictured Jeju as a sprawling and lush land. Sojeongbang Falls, on the other hand, is the highlight destination for many Korean tourists — and for good reason. Aside from the calming and refreshing vibes that the falls gives, it also offers a good view of Seogwipo Coast.

2. Jeju Bus Tour: West Course Overview

Russian assault opens new front, diverting Ukraine forces as Western aid trickles in

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian troops were locked in intense battles with Ukrainian soldiers around the embattled town of Vovchansk in northeast Ukraine on Monday, pushing ahead with a ground offensive that opened a new front and put more pressure on overstretched Ukrainian forces.

Moscow’s renewed northeast offensive, launched late last week, was the most significant border incursion since the full-scale invasion began.

In just two days, Moscow has captured between 100 to 125 square kilometers (38 to 47 square miles) that includes at least seven villages, most of them already depopulated, according to two open source monitoring analysts.

Vovchansk, among the largest towns in the area whose pre-war population of 17,000 had dwindled to just 2,500 before Russia renewed its ground assault last week, has emerged as a key focus of the pitched battles engulfing the Kharkiv region. By Monday, only 200 to 300 residents remained, said Kharkiv Gov. Oleh Syniehubov, as Russian forces closed in from three sides.

Poorly built fortifications and long-term ammunition shortages enabled Russia’s sweeping advance in the area since Friday, local officials and soldiers said. The Kremlin’s forces were seeking to divert and distract Ukrainian troops across the 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) front line until a big batch of new military aid for Kyiv from the U.S. and European partners arrives on the battlefield in the coming weeks and months, Ukrainian commanders and analysts said.

That makes this period a window of opportunity for Moscow and one of the most dangerous for Kyiv in the two-year war , they said. By intensifying offensive operations, Russia seeks to stretch Ukraine’s forces thin and forge breakthroughs.

Russian forces claimed to have taken an additional 90 square kilometers (35 square miles), which has not been independently confirmed.

Opening a new front from two points along the border with the Russian region of Belgorod was the easiest tactic to pin down and divert Ukrainian forces from heavy battles raging in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Russia’s most sought-after prize.

“The enemy identified the most geographically convenient place ... the state border line,” said Yurii Federenko, commander of the ACHILLES battalion of the 92nd brigade. His unit was among others rotated into the northeast from the Donetsk region to stabilize the northeast front, he said.

He fears a similar front may be opened in the Sumy region, which also shares a border with Russia.

The string of villages captured along the contested gray zone, where enemy shelling precludes the building of fortifications, were also the easiest for Moscow’s forces to nab. Their momentum will likely slow as they approach better fortified settlements, Ukrainian commanders said.

Small batches of U.S. military aid have started to trickle into the front line in the form of much needed artillery, said Federenko, whose unit received some of the aid. But it will take at least two months before incoming supplies will meet Kyiv’s needs to hold the line, he said. Until they arrive, Ukraine won’t be able to seize the battlefield initiative, he said.

“They now have an opportunity to attack us while we cannot properly reply,” he said.

Russia’s offensive seeks to take advantage of this window of time. “In order to achieve success, in my opinion, in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the enemy needed to spread ... our defense forces. Accordingly, the enemy started the campaign in Kharkiv region specifically,” Federenko said.

The Kharkiv incursion has effectively pinned Ukrainian forces in the region, while potentially drawing precious reserves away from heavy battles in the Avdiivka and Chasiv Yar areas of the Donetsk region, where Russia’s advance has been far more significant and strategically important.

Ukrainian local officials said they feared Vovchansk’s fate may mirror that of Bakhmut and Avdiivka, Ukrainian cities where fierce fighting and scorched earth tactics forced Ukrainian withdrawals.

Russian forces were inching closer to Vovchansk, and heavy battles were ongoing on the town’s outskirts. Using assault infantry units Russian forces are attempting to secure positions in three directions, as Ukrainian forces attempt to dislodge them using firepower. Ukrainian commanders describe the battles as dynamic and complicated.

Russian troops have so far entrenched themselves in the villages of Strilecha, Pylna, Borysivka, Krasne, Oliynykove, Mrakovets, Pletenivka, and from there were launching attacks near Hlyboke Zelene Hatysche, and Buchansk.

The capture of the Donetsk city of Avdiivka in February opened a door for the Kremlin’s troops to push westward, deeper into Donetsk. Russia illegally annexed Donetsk and three other regions in 2022 shortly after it invaded Ukraine, and taking control of all of Donetsk is one of the Kremlin’s main war goals.

If Ukraine isn’t able to halt Moscow’s advance, it could create conditions for a possible attack on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.

It could also create a “buffer zone” to protect Belgorod, where frequent Ukrainian attacks have embarrassed the Kremlin. In March, Russia announced plans to evacuate about 9,000 children from the Belgorod region because it was being shelled continuously.

Russian emergency services on Monday finished clearing the rubble in the region’s capital city of Belgorod, where a section of a residential building collapsed following what authorities said was Ukrainian shelling.

Fifteen bodies were pulled from the rubble, Belgorod regional Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said, and 27 other people were wounded.

Another three people in the city of Belgorod were killed by shelling late Sunday, he said.

Yevgeny Poddubny, a usually well-connected military correspondent for Russia’s state TV corporation VGTRK, said in a recent Telegram post that the Kharkiv assault marked the beginning of “a new phase.”

“We’re pushing the enemy back from the border, destroying the enemy in order to deprive the Kyiv regime of the opportunity to use relatively cheap rockets to attack Belgorod,” he said.
