World, jazz and classical music in a former Georgian church and acoustically renowned concert hall.
Steve Earle is one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation. A protege of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, he quickly became a master storyteller in his own right, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, The Pretenders, and countless others. 1986 saw the release of his record, Guitar Town, which shot to number one on the country charts and is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre.
Most recently, Earle’s 1988 hit Copperhead Road was made an official state song of Tennessee in 2023. Subsequent releases like The Revolution Starts...Now (2004), Washington Square Serenade (2007), and TOWNES (2009) received consecutive GRAMMY® Awards. His most recent album, Jerry Jeff (2022) consisted of Earle’s versions of songs written by Jerry Jeff Walker, one of his mentors.
The legendary singer-songwriter, Grammy winner, and Americana icon is coming to the UK for a solo and acoustic tour in June 2023.

Steve Earle and the Dukes Announce Summer Tour Dates
By Jon Freeman
Jon Freeman
Steve Earle and the Dukes have announced a slew of tour dates that will put them back on the road this summer. The trek kicks off July 1st at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas.
With 37 dates announced so far, Earle’s tour will take his group through Texas to Missouri, Kentucky, and beyond, with stops including St. Louis, Lexington, and a two-night engagement at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. In August, Earle and the Dukes will join up with Los Lobos to play several venues, including Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and Atlanta’s Botantical Garden. Earle will fly solo in October, leading a trio of shows in New York and Wisconsin. Tickets are available online now .
In addition to the tour announcement, Earle released a new live performance video of “The Saint of Lost Causes.” It’s an appropriately moody, grungy rendition, with detuned guitars bumping up against weeping, droning fiddle and steel. Earle’s version of the song appears on the 2021 release J.T. , an album of his son Justin Townes Earle ’s songs recorded after the younger Earle’s death in 2020. Proceeds from the sales of J.T. go into a trust for Justin Townes Earle’s daughter Etta St. James Earle.

He was fantastic, acoustic set, told some great stories with humor , played old and new stuff. Intimate setting a theater, like being in coffee house or living room. Would see again.

I had never seen Steve Earle in a solo concert until last night, though I've seen him many times over the past 20 years, most often with his band, the Dukes, in much larger venues. I have to say that last night's concert at The Kessler Theater in Dallas was my very favorite Steve Earle concert thus far. He is always an inspiring performer and he has come such a long way in his attitude toward what it really means to be an American songwriter. He sang songs about women, love and loss; always casting himself as a romantic who was inspired by his parents' lengthy marriage to never give up on love and marriage. He amused us with a story about how his thinking about keeping a loaded shot gun under his mattress changed radically after his 14 year old son came to live him. He sang his beautiful song, "City of Immigrants" after he told a story about the positive influence of the many immigrants with whom he interacts on a daily basis in New York City. He sang his beautiful song, "Galway Girl" about many of our Irish ancestors and then, he transitioned into Copperhead Road. He'll be releasing a new cd soon based on Guy Clark songs. He refers to Guy as "his teacher", to whom he became close after he moved to Nashville about 40 years ago by way of his previous relationship with Townes Van Zandt. I can't wait to buy it!
A solo acoustic concert which hit the spot on a snowy night in Kansas. Steve covered a wide range of songs including his best know and 2 upcoming songs, 1 a Guy Clark cover, (his next album is Guy Clark songs which sounds amazing) and the other from an off-Broadway musical about W Virginia coal mines. Shannon McNally was a strong opening act. He joined her for the encore and she joined him for a wonderful rendition of Goodbye.
He got a little frisky at one point near the end as an audience member wanted him to sing more and talk less. Steve shut that down. I don't understand how people don't know his politics at this point. I mean you're at the show, you've listened to his music, soooo yeah he's gonna say shit.
Some great stories as well, my favorite one about 14 year old Justin and a gun. He's just so authentic.

In the 1960s, American composer Steve Reich prepared some electronic pieces consisting of gradually shifting tape loops of the same prerecorded — and enigmatic — spoken phrases excerpted from someone telling a story. Reich quickly realized he could produce the same effect with conventional instruments and live musicians. These repetitive patterns and the gradual shifts came to be labeled “minimalist.”
Three decades later, in May of 1993, Reich and his wife, the video artist Beryl Korot, created a large-scale piece they dubbed a “documentary video opera.” Titled The Cave , it investigated the roots of Christianity, Judaism and Islam through prerecorded interviews, images projected on multi-channel video screens, and live musical accompaniment utilizing the speech patterns of the interviewees as the starting point for much of the score.
On today’s date in 2002, at the Vienna Festival, Reich and Korot premiered another music theatre piece, Three Tales , intended as symbolic parables of technology in the 20th century, the three topics being the crash of the Hindenburg, the early atomic bomb tests in the Pacific Islands and the cloning of a sheep named Dolly.
