10 over crowded tourist places in India

Overrated or over crowded.

While India boasts some splendid and iconic destinations, there are some tourist places that may not live up to their hype because of over crowding. Here are 10 such tourist places in India:

Puducherry with its French colonial charm has become too crowded and touristy. The picturesque streets and pretty beaches remain crowded with tourists mostly.

Mumbai Beaches

Mumbai's beaches, such as Juhu and Chowpatty, are often crowded with tourists and locals alike. Over tourism is one of the prime reasons for pollution here.

Taj Mahal, Agra

Taj Mahal in Agra is one of the most-crowded attractions in India and in the world. The beauty of this white marble mausoleum is irresistible for sure.

Ooty, Tamil Nadu

Ooty too has become a commercialised hill station. What once was a scenic and quiet retreat in the hills has now become overcrowded and touristy, losing its charm.

Lonavala-Khandala, Maharashtra

These two pretty hill stations are now overrun with tourists, losing their beauty and ambience.

You may also like

Mussoorie, uttarakhand.

Like Ooty and Shimla, Mussoorie too has lost its charm to overcrowding, traffic, pollution and commercialisation, detracting from its natural beauty.

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Overcrowding, long-hour traffic jams and rampant development have reduced the beauty and allure of Shimla as a hill station retreat.

Manali, Himachal Pradesh

There was a time when Manali used to be a serene mountain escape. But today Manali has become overly crowded and commercialised, with congested streets and pollution.

Beaches of Goa

While Goa is noted for its colourful nightlife and beach parties, many of its beaches have become too crowded and over commercialised. Some of the beaches in North Goa such as Baga and Calangute are losing their charm.

Darjeeling, West Bengal

Darjeeling is famous for its tea plantations and scenic vistas. But the beauty of Darjeeling is losing its charm because of overtourism and congestion.
