In de deelstaat Stiermarken ligt het idyllische plaatsje Spielberg ook wel Spielberg bei Knittelfeld. Een omgeving waar je kunt genieten van een prachtig berglandschap, de plek om heerlijk tot rust te komen. Maar eens per jaar slaat de stilte om...!

ORANGE ARMY! Het dorpje Spielberg verandert voor drie dagen in een ware oranje zee, met het geluid van ronkende motoren die galmen door de bergen. Het uiterst gastvrije dorp staat klaar om de Orange Army weer te verwelkomen.

Het circuit, de Red Bull Ring De Grand Prix van Oostenrijk wordt verreden op de Red Bull Ring. Het circuit is gebouwd in 1969 en kreeg destijds de naam Österreichring. In de loop van de jaren is het circuit meerdere malen verbouwd en ingekort. Nadat het circuit enige tijd niet meer in gebruik is geweest, is het circuit in 2011 weer nieuw leven ingeblazen door Dietrich Mateschitz, de gedeeltelijk eigenaar van Red Bull. Vanaf dat moment heeft het circuit ook een nieuwe naam gekregen en werd het omgedoopt tot de Red Bull Ring. Het is een circuit dat erom bekend staat dat het zeer overzichtelijk is en je dan ook vanaf vrijwel alle plekken op het circuit een groot gedeelte van het circuit kunt overzien.

Even tot rust komen Na een enerverend raceweekend is het ook zeker aan te raden om nog even iets langer te blijven en tot rust te komen in dit prachtige gebied. Je kunt vanuit Spielberg ook erg makkelijk een dagtrip maken naar de nabijgelegen stad Graz. Het is een stad waar je overladen zult worden met historische maar ook zeker moderne bezienswaardigheden.

De organisatie van de GP van Oostenrijk heeft het toegangsbeleid voor dit jaar aangescherpt. Zo is het verboden om fakkels/rookpotten/vuurwerk en eigen alcoholische dranken mee te nemen naar het circuit. Word je gepakt met deze items moet je het circuit direct verlaten. Een uitgebreid overzicht van wat er niet mee mag naar het circuit vind je terug in de Orange Army app.

Projekt Spielberg GmbH & Co KG Red Bull Ring Straße 1 A-8724 Spielberg

Je kunt de Red Bull Ring bereiken vanaf knooppunt St. Michael vanaf de snelweg S36. De Red Bull Ring is bereikbaar via zowel afslag Knittelfeld-West als Zeltweg Oost. Vanaf daar kun je de verkeersinstructies volgen en word je begeleid naar een parkeerplaats. Afhankelijk van de kleurcodering van je ticket worden de fans door middel van borden langs de snelweg naar de juiste parkeerplaatsen geleid behorend bij het ticket, die op loopafstand van het circuit liggen. Let bij aankomst op de kleur van je ticket en kies bij het verlaten van de snelweg de juiste afslag.

• Nord tribune ( groene tickets ): Knittelfeld West
• Mitte tribune ( gele tickets ): Zeltweg Ost
• West tribune ( blauwe tickets ): Zeltweg West

Op de parkeerplaatsen bij de Red Bull Ring kun je gratis parkeren. Let op! Op iedere parkeerplaats is ook een beperkt aantal parkeerplekken voor mindervaliden beschikbaar.

Houd er rekening mee dat aankomst en vertrek mogelijk is op de volgende tijden:

• Woensdag & Donderdag:  U kunt de campings op elk moment van de dag betreden
• Vrijdag:  Vanwege het verwachte drukke verkeer wordt een aankomst voor 09:00 sterk aanbevolen
• Zaterdag:  Aankomst voor 09:00 wordt sterk aangeraden
• Zondag:  Vertrekken na 20:00

Om de kampeerders op donderdag zo goed mogelijk over de campings te kunnen verdelen, worden ze met behulp van LED-richtingsschermen langs de S36 Murtal geleid. Voor de campings Roze, Groen, Paars, Geel en Oranje wordt de afrit Knittelfeld West aanbevolen. Degenen die op de  Blauwe en Rode campings verblijven, moeten echter afslaan bij Zeltweg West.

Vanaf het station Knittelfeld rijden gratis shuttlebussen naar het circuit. Een treinkaartje naar het station van Knittelfeld schaf je relatief goedkoop aan.

Vanaf het treinstation van Knittelfeld en het busstation van Judenburg (Postgasse) rijden om de 15 tot 30 minuten gratis pendelbussen naar het circuit.

Een lijst met alle toegestane en verboden items vind je hier onder Toelatingscriteria.

Het is verboden voor toeschouwers om voorwerpen van welke aard dan ook mee te nemen die gegooid of afgeschoten kunnen worden, of die anderszins de rust, orde en veiligheid van het evenementen(terrein) kunnen verstoren of in gevaar brengen.

Alle soorten pyrotechnische artikelen zijn verboden. In het algemeen is het meebrengen van vuurwerk, rookbommen, brandgevaarlijke apparaten, stokken, palen, parasols en grote paraplu's, glazen flessen, stenen, stekende, snijdende en snijdende voorwerpen en wapens van welke aard dan ook verboden.

De parkeerplaatsen P5, P7, P10 en P11 hebben garderobes voor motorrijders die worden beveiligd. Alle uitrusting kan worden afgegeven tegen een vergoeding van tien euro per kluis (50 x 40 x 40 cm). De garderobekosten kunnen met een kaart of contant worden betaald.

Openingstijden: Vrijdag van 08:00 tot 20:00 Zaterdag van 08:00 tot 20:00 Zondag van 07:30 tot 18:00

Na het plaatsen van een bestelling kan het even duren voordat de (digitale) e-tickets worden verzonden. We leveren de tickets zo snel mogelijk uit. Ongeveer 2 weken voor aanvang van de desbetreffende GP wordern de e-tickets verzonden naar het e-mailadres van de hoofdboeker.

LET OP : de Verstappen Travel Goodies kunnen ter plekke op het circuit, bij het Info Point van Verstappen Travel, afgehaald worden. Tevens is het mogelijk de goodies op te halen in onze winkels in Swalmen en Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet.

Je ticket is het afhaalbewijs dat je nodig hebt om je Verstappen Travel Goodies op te halen bij onze trailers.

** Let op voor Hongarije wordt deze ongeveer 2 weken voor aanvang van de race verstuurd ** 

Als u hulp van de politie nodig heeft, belt u dan 133 of 112. Er worden direct politieagenten naar u toegestuurd. Hoe specifieker uw informatie over de locatie is, hoe sneller de politie ter plaatse kan zijn. Maar natuurlijk is ook de politie ter plaatse. De ambtenaren zijn zelf op pad en er is een apart politiebureau op het terrein bij het Welcome Center.

Wij verkopen enkel weekendtickets, deze zijn geldig van vrijdag tot en met zondag.  Het is helaas niet mogelijk een dag ticket voor bijvoorbeeld alleen de zondag te bestellen.

Voor Dutch GP verkopen we passepartout tickets. Dit zijn ook driedaagse tickets (vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag). We volgen de benaming die Dutch GP zelf ook gebruikt om deze te onderscheiden van hun weekendticket die maar twee dagen geldig zijn.

Wil jij met een grote groep naar een Grand Prix? Stuur dan even een e-mail naar [email protected] . In overleg kan er gekeken worden naar meerdere mogelijkheden. 

Via jouw eigen Verstappen.com Travel account kan jij de tickets voor iedereen op naam zetten en tevens de juiste T-shirt maat doorgeven.

Let op voor de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk, België en de DUTCH GP 2024 is het NIET meer noodzakelijk om shirtmaten door te geven.

Voorbeeld als je geen T-shirt maat doorgeeft

Je hebt 4 tickets gekocht, waarvan 1 voor jezelf en 3 voor vrienden. Zet je de 3 tickets niet op de juiste naam en geef jij niet de juiste T-shirt maat door, dan ontvangt iedereen de gekozen T-shirt maat van de hoofdboeker. Tevens is de kans groot dat niet iedereen tot het circuit wordt toegelaten, omdat het betreffende ticket niet overeenkomt met een geldig legitimatiebewijs.

Zet jij de tickets niet op de juiste naam en geef jij niet de juiste T-shirt maat door? Dan ontvang jij het T-shirt in de maat van de hoofdboeker en kunnen wij niet garanderen dat jij wordt toegelaten tot het circuit. Dit is dus op eigen risico.

We gaan ervan uit dat de Grand Prix zoals gepland voor dit jaar doorgaan inclusief publiek. Mocht dit toch niet het geval zijn, dan hebben ticketkopers wederom de mogelijkheid om ervoor te kiezen om hun ticket te behouden voor het jaar erna of alsnog een refund aan te vragen.

Je kunt plaatsen kiezen, onder voorbehoud . Maar we behouden ons het recht om hier vanaf te wijken. Dit kan nodig zijn als evenementen niet volledig door kunnen gaan of als tribunes aangepast worden nadat we met de verkoop zijn begonnen.

Ongeveer 2 weken van te voren proberen wij onze fans te informeren via de mail met daarin zo veel als mogelijke informatie omtrent de race.

Dit kan tot 1 week voor aanvang van de Grand Prix. Zodra de digitale tickets zijn verstuurd, is het niet meer mogelijk om de naam op het ticket aan te passen. We versturen de digitale tickets zo snel mogelijk, ongeveer 1 week voor aanvang van de race.

De race gaat door, er mag publiek komen en ook wij kunnen niet meer annuleren bij de organisatie van de GP. Vandaar dat we ook geen annuleringsverzoeken in behandeling kunnen nemen. Wij als Verstappen Travel voldoen aan de voorwaarde van het leveren van een ticket voor de gekozen GP.

De verschillende circuits gaan hier anders mee om op basis van de op dat moment geldende omstandigheden. Deze veranderen regelmatig, kijk hiervoor dus altijd voor de laatste informatie op de website van het circuit.

Voor Oostenrijk kun je alleen meedoen aan de pitlane walk als je naast je ticket een apart ticket voor de pitlane walk hebt gekocht. Deze zijn enkel via het circuit zelf te koop. 

De maximale leeftijden voor kids tickets verschillen per circuit en worden door de verschillende circuits bepaald:

• Voor Oostenrijk kan voor kinderen tot en met 14 jaar voor € 49 een ticket worden besteld.
• Voor Hongarije kan voor kinderen tot en met 13 jaar voor € 49 een ticket worden besteld.
• Voor België kan voor kinderen tot en met 12 jaar voor € 70 een ticket worden besteld.
• Voor Zandvoort en Spanje kunnen geen tickets voor kinderen worden besteld.

Om de leeftijd van het kind te controleren, is hij/zij verplicht een legitimatiebewijs mee te nemen naar het circuit. Beslissend voor de hoogte van de ticketprijs is de leeftijd van het kind bij aanvang van het GP-weekend en niet het moment van aanschaf. Per ticket voor volwassenen kunnen twee kindertickets verkregen worden.

Bij elk kids ticket hoort eveneens een exclusieve Max Verstappen Travel Bag met inhoud.

Voor de bestelling van je e-tickets worden geen verzendkosten, servicekosten of andere bijkomende kosten in rekening gebracht.

Ja. Het voordeel van het aanmaken van een account is dat je een overzicht van jouw (eerdere) bestellingen hebt.

De tribunes waarvoor wij tickets verkopen, zijn helaas niet rolstoeltoegankelijk en er zijn geen plaatsen voor mindervalide bezoekers. Mogelijkheden voor mindervalide bezoekers kun je vinden op de website van het circuit.

Na het plaatsen van een bestelling kan het even duren voordat de (digitale) e-tickets worden verzonden. We leveren de tickets zo snel mogelijk uit. Ongeveer 3 weken voor aanvang van de desbetreffende GP ontvang je de e-tickets.

Dit verschilt per circuit. In 2023 worden de Max Verstappen Travel Bags voor de Grand Prix' van Hongarije en Spanje verzonden. Hier krijg je ongeveer een week voor de race bericht van.

Bij de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk kon de Max Verstappen Travel Bag met het oranje support t-shirt en goodies kan alleen ter plekke op het circuit, bij het Info Point van Verstappen Travel, afgehaald worden.

Een Paddock Tour wordt uiterlijk één week voor aanvang van de GP verloot. Alleen personen die via Verstappen.com Travel een ticket voor één van de Max Verstappen Tribunes hebben gekocht, maken kans op de prijzen. Winnaars dienen het ticket met het winnende stoelnummer te kunnen overleggen om hun prijs in ontvangst te nemen. Alle andere prijzen worden na de race verloot.

Je ontvangt een (digitaal) e-ticket, dus houd je mailbox in de gaten. Tickets worden niet per post verzonden.

De organisatie van het evenement bepaalt welke zaken er wel of niet het circuit op mogen. Zie voor meer informatie de website van het circuit.

Ja, de tribunekaart is een toegangskaart tot het circuit met daarbij een (gereserveerde) zitplaats op de desbetreffende tribune. Met deze kaart mag je dus ook in het staanplaatsgedeelte komen.

Let op: Je kunt maar één e-mailadres per persoon gebruiken. Het gebruiken van meerdere malen hetzelfde mailadres zal een foutmelding geven. Indien er geen e-mailadres beschikbaar is, mag je een fictief mailadres gebruiken. De tickets worden uiteindelijk toegestuurd op het mailadres waarmee de order geplaatst is.

Klik op bestellingen en vervolgens op je ordernummer 3. Druk op Beheer Personalisatie 4. Stuur het te personaliseren ticket door naar de tickethouder zodat hij of zij deze kan personaliseren

Indien het kind geen e-mailadres of mobiel nummer heeft, mag het e-mailadres en/of telefoonnummer van de ouder gebruikt worden.

Let wel: elk e-mailadres mag maar één keer gebruikt worden. Als desbetreffende ouder ook naar de race gaat zul je een alias of een ander e-mailadres moeten gebruiken. Gebruik geen e-mailadressen die niet bestaan, want dan kunnen we geen contact met je opnemen als dat nodig is. Hoe je een alias kunt gebruiken staat hieronder beschreven:

Als je een g-mail adres hebt, heb je automatisch onbeperkte aliassen daarvan. Als je als e-mailadres [email protected] hebt, kun je door een + en daarachter te zetten meerdere verschillende mailadressen maken. Personaliseer je dan met [email protected] zul je daarvan ook de mail ontvangen.

Waar kan ik met de auto parkeren? Afhankelijk van de kleur ticket word je verwezen naar de dichtstbijzijnde vrije parkeerplaats. Bezoekers kunnen gratis parkeren. Parkeerplaats P10 ligt het dichtst bij de Max Verstappen Premium (Nord), de Orange (Mitte) Tribune, de T8 en T10 tribunes. Parkeren bij het circuit is goed geregeld, echter is het er erg druk. Car Park Red ligt het dichtst bij de Max Verstappen Tribune. Met de trein kun je het beste naar Francorchamps reizen. De Red Bull Ring staat bekend als de thuisbaan van Red Bull Racing en Max Verstappen. Hoewel Zandvoort er sinds 2021 is bij gekomen, blijft deze baan een favoriet bij Nederlandse racefans. De tribunes zijn dan ook grotendeels oranje gekleurd. Het circuit staat garant voor veel spanning en sensatie. • Over de Red Bull Ring

Winnaars van de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk

Je weg vinden op de red bull ring, meest gedenkwaardige edities grote prijs van oostenrijk, dingen om te doen in spielberg en steiermark, over het circuit red bull ring.

De Red Bull Ring is een relatief nieuw circuit. Hoewel er op deze plek al in 1970 een GP werd verreden, is de huidige baan pas in 2011 geopend. Sinds 2014 is de Formule 1 weer neergestreken in Oostenrijk. Al snel is de baan uitgegroeid tot een van de meest populaire banen ter wereld. Naast de Formule 1 wordt sinds 2016 ook de MotoGP verreden op de baan, die daarnaast dienst doet als testbaan voor de wagens van Red Bull Racing. Ook de Rolling Stones en AC/DC hebben er de laatste jaren opgetreden. Bezoekers van de GP zijn unaniem zeer tevreden over de organisatie tijdens het weekend. Parkeermogelijkheden, eetgelegenheden en sanitaire voorzieningen zijn allemaal uitstekend geregeld.

Historie van de Formule 1 Grand Prix Oostenrijk

Tegenwoordig staat de GP van Oostenrijk goed bekend. De baan is razendsnel en de tienduizenden Nederlanders zorgen voor een geweldige sfeer. Daarmee is het een van de meest populaire Grand Prixs in de Formule 1. Toch is de geschiedenis van deze GP er één van 12 ambachten en 13 ongelukken.

De GP van Oostenrijk bestaat sinds 1963, en staat sinds 1964 op de Formule 1-kalender. Die race werd gewonnen door de Italiaan Lorenzo Bandini, en werd gehouden op het Zeltweg Luchthaven Circuit . In navolging van Silverstone was hier een circuit aangelegd op een voormalige legerbasis. De keiharde betonnen ondergrond zorgde echter voor veel problemen, waarbij de meeste auto’s grote schade opliepen. Na de Formule 1-race van 1968 werd de baan dan ook al gesloten. Zeltweg werd teruggegeven aan Defensie en is momenteel in gebruik als militair vliegveld onder de naam Fliegerhorst Hinterstoisser .

Gelukkig was het daarmee niet gedaan met de GP van Oostenrijk, want men was al begonnen met de aanleg van de Österreichring , vlak tegenover de oude baan. Deze Österreichring was op tijd klaar voor de GP van 1970. Het was een echt snelheidscircuit met een lengte van zes kilometer. Tot 1987 werden er onafgebroken 18 GP’s verreden, waarbij alle snelheidsrecords werden verbroken. Alain Prost was het meest succesvol met drie overwinningen. Maar in 1987 ging het meerdere keren fout tijdens de start van de race. Het circuit werd als te gevaarlijk betiteld en van de Formule 1- kalender verwijderd.

Pas tien jaar later keerde de GP van Oostenrijk weer terug. Het circuit was verkort tot 4318 meter, ging terug van 18 naar 10 bochten en de veiligheid werd flink verbeterd. Vanwege sponsorverplichtingen stond het circuit van 1997 tot 2003 bekend als de A1 ring. Men draaide echter grote verliezen, en in 2003 was het voor de derde maal gedaan met de GP van Oostenrijk. Daarmee leek het lot definitief bezegeld.

In 2005 echter werd het circuit gekocht door Red Bull-eigenaar Dietrich Mateschitz. Hij wilde het circuit opknappen en samen met andere investeerders de GP terug naar Oostenrijk halen. Daarnaast zou het circuit een testbaan worden voor het race- en motorteam van Red Bull Racing. Aanvankelijk leek het plan uit te lopen op een grote mislukking. Er waren protesten van omwonenden en een grote investeerder trok zich terug. Omdat er al deels was begonnen met de sloop, konden er voorlopig helemaal geen races meer worden gehouden. Het duurde jaren voordat er een goedkopere versie van de plannen werd uitgevoerd. Pas in 2011 opende de Red Bull Ring zijn deuren. In 2014 was het eindelijk zover en keerde de Formule 1 terug in Oostenrijk. Met de successen van Sebastian Vettel en Max Verstappen werd de GP vooral erg populair bij Duitse en Nederlandse racefans. De 105.000 kaarten zijn dan ook altijd snel uitverkocht, waarbij bijna de helft wordt verkocht aan Max Verstappen-fans. Zolang Verstappen in de Formule 1 actief is, zal de Red Bull Ring dan ook zonder problemen op de Formule 1-kalender blijven staan.

Lay-out en bijzonderheden Red Bull Ring

Met een lengte van slechts 4.318 kilometer is de Red Bull Ring een van de kortste circuits in de Formule 1. Dat betekent dat er liefst 71 rondes moeten worden gereden. Als toeschouwer zie je de auto’s hier liefst 27 keer vaker voorbij komen dan op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps. Een tweede pluspunt zijn de hoogteverschillen op het circuit en de hoge tribunes. Daardoor heb je vanaf alle plekken een goed zicht op een groot deel van het parcours.

Voor coureurs is de Red Bull Ring een buitengewoon lastig circuit. Het korte circuit kent enkele lange rechte stukken en tien lastige bochten. Elke fout leidt hier ogenblikkelijk tot kostbaar tijdverlies. Daarnaast maken de hoogteverschillen op het circuit het extra moeilijk. Je moet bocht na bocht precies de juiste lijn volgen om een zo scherp mogelijke tijd neer te zetten.

Het circuit telt tien bochten, waarbij vooral de bochten 1, 3, 4 en 10 kans bieden om in te halen. Vanaf de start rijden de coureurs eerst een stuk omhoog, waarna een scherpe eerste bocht opdoemt, de Niki Lauda bocht. Deze biedt een uitstekende mogelijkheid om in te halen. Hierna voeren de wagens de snelheid op, om zo snel mogelijk door bocht 2 te gaan. Bovenop de heuvel biedt bocht 3 de beste kans op een nieuwe inhaalpoging. Vooral Verstappen heeft in deze bocht vaak toegeslagen. Na de vierde bocht kan de rest van de baan vrijwel helemaal op topsnelheid worden gereden. Bocht 10 biedt nog een mooie mogelijkheid tot inhalen, omdat hier ruimte is voor twee auto’s naast elkaar.

• De GP van Oostenrijk is sinds 1964 op vier verschillende banen verreden. Van 1964 tot 1968 op Zeltweg, van 1969 tot 1987 op de Österreichring, van 1997 tot 2003 op de A1-Ring, en sinds 2014 op de Red Bull Ring. De laatste drie banen liggen allen op dezelfde locatie.
• Drie coureurs wisten de GP van Oostenrijk driemaal te winnen.* Dat zijn de Zwitser Jo Siffert, Alain Prost en natuurlijk Max Verstappen. In feite won de Nederlander de race al viermaal. In 2021 won hij namelijk ook de GP van Steiermark op de Red Bull Ring.
• Drie coureurs stonden al vijfmaal op het podium in Spielberg: David Coulthard, Valtteri Bottas en Max Verstappen.
• Ferrari-coureurs waren het meest succesvol tijdens de GP van Oostenrijk. Zevenmaal wonnen de Italianen de race, gevolgd door McLaren met zes zeges en Mercedes met vijf keer winst.
• De snelste ronde staat op naam van Carlos Sainz jr. In 2020 reed de Spanjaard een ronde van 1.05.619.
• In 2021 was Max Verstappen de eerste coureur die een Grand Slam behaalde op het circuit. Dit houdt in: starten vanaf pole position, de race winnen, van begin tot eind voorop liggen en ook nog eens de snelste ronde rijden.
• Slechts eenmaal werd de GP gewonnen door een Oostenrijker. Dat was natuurlijk Niki Lauda, die in 1984 namens McLaren zegevierde op de Ö
• Alle gegevens zijn bijgewerkt tot en met het seizoen van 2022.

Hoe bereik je het circuit?

De Red Bull Ring ligt in het kleine plaatsje Spielberg, midden in de Oostenrijkse Alpen, op 200 kilometer van Wenen. Dit is dus geen grote stad die de beschikking heeft over een vliegveld of een treinstation. Desondanks is Spielberg vanuit Nederland prima bereikbaar. Zowel het vliegtuig, het openbaar vervoer als de auto zijn goede opties om naar de GP van Oostenrijk te reizen.

Met het vliegtuig

Vliegen vanuit Nederland is een goede optie. De internationale luchthaven van Wenen ligt op ongeveer 200 kilometer afstand van de Red Bull Ring, en wordt ook gebruikt door budgetmaatschappijen als EasyJet en Ryanair. Je reist vervolgens met het openbaar vervoer in zo’n drie uur naar het circuit.

Dagelijks rijden er 73 treinen van de luchthaven naar het centraal station van Wenen, Wien Bahnhof. Deze rit duurt slechts zestien minuten en kost je zo’n €5. Vanaf Wenen reis je vervolgens verder met de trein.

Graz (op 90 kilometer) en Klagenfurt (100 kilometer) liggen dichterbij het circuit, maar hebben geen verbinding met luchthavens in Nederland en België. Je zult dan nog eens moeten overstappen, en meer tijd kwijt zijn.

Met de trein

Het dichtstbijzijnde treinstation is in Knittelfeld, dat op zes kilometer afstand ligt van de Red Bull Ring. Dit station is verbonden met de meeste grote steden in Oostenrijk. Vanaf Wien Bahnhof rijdt er elk uur een trein naar Knittelfeld, die er 2 uur en 27 minuten over doet.

Vanaf station Knittelfeld rijdt lijnbus 846 je in twintig minuten naar het circuit. Ook rijden er tijdens het Formule 1-weekend gratis pendelbussen tussen het station en de Red Bull Ring.

In Oostenrijk zelf rjjden er vanaf zo’n 150 locaties regionale en express shuttles van en naar de Red Bull Ring. Vanaf grote plaatsen als Wenen, Salzburg en Klagenfurt rijden er alleen op zondag expressbussen van en naar het circuit. Reken op ongeveer €24 voor een retourtje. Met de auto

De Red Bull Ring is vrij goed te bereiken met de auto. Je zult er echter aardig wat tijd voor moeten uittrekken. Zonder tussenstops zul je ongeveer elf uur over de ruim 1000 kilometer doen. Je rijdt voornamelijk over de A3 richting Passau. In Oostenrijk zelf gaat de A3 over in de A8. Bij knooppunt Wels neem je de A9 richting Graz. Vervolgens verlaat je bij St. Michael (Obersteiermark) de autobaan en neem je de S36 richting Spielberg. Vanaf hier staat de Red Bull Ring duidelijk aangegeven. Je hebt voor Oostenrijk wel een vignet nodig om op de snelwegen te rijden. Dit vignet kost €9,60 voor tien dagen en is verkrijgbaar bij de ANWB.

Tribunes op de Red Bull Ring

We hebben het al eerder gezegd: er zijn nauwelijks circuits waar je zo’n goed panorama-zicht hebt als op de Red Bull Ring. Door de hoogteverschillen zie je hier veel meer van de baan dan bij andere Grand Prix-banen. Het is aan jou of je de voorkeur geeft aan het zicht op de pits, de actie in een bepaalde bocht of de sfeer tussen de Max Verstappen-fans. Je hebt op de Red Bull Ring de keuze uit de volgende tribunes.

De Start Finish Grandstand

De hoofdtribune bevindt zich op het rechte stuk tussen de start en finishlijn. Vanzelfsprekend is dit de beste plek om de start en het eind van de race te zien, alsmede de prijsuitreiking. De duurste zitplaatsen bevinden zich in de vakken D tot en met N. Deze plekken in het midden bieden namelijk het beste zicht op de pits. De plekken aan de zijkant zijn wat goedkoper. Zorg dat je zo hoog mogelijk zit, dan heb je ook een goed zicht op een groot deel van de rest van de baan. Dit is ook de plek om geweldige foto’s te maken. De hoofdtribune is ook nog eens overdekt. Als je echter vooral voor de actie tijdens de race komt, dan kun je beter voor een andere tribune kiezen.

De Steiermark Grandstand (Sud-West)

De Steiermark Tribüne is de duurste tribune van het hele complex. Dat is niet voor niets, want vanaf hier heb je een uniek zicht op grote delen van de baan. De tribune bevindt zich precies bij bocht 1. Je ziet hier de wagens van het rechte stuk de eerste bocht induiken, en kunt goed zien hoe ze hun weg in de tweede en derde bocht vervolgen. Daarmee zit je op de eerste rang bij het meest interessante deel van de baan. Ook heb je ook een uitstekend zicht op de uitgang van de pits. De Steiermark Tribune ligt dicht bij de fanzone, met zijn uitgebreide catering. Als we toch nog een nadeel moeten bedenken: de tribune is niet overdekt. En: er zijn alleen drie-dagen kaarten beschikbaar voor deze tribune.

Red Bull Grandstand

De Red Bull Grandstand is de grootste tribune op het circuit, en ligt tussen bocht 1 en 2. Vanaf hier heb je een geweldig zicht op het meest interessante deel van het circuit. Vak A is het duurst, waarna de kaartjes steeds goedkoper worden tot aan vak K, waar je tussen bocht 1 en 2 zit. De vakken L tot en met P liggen weer dicht bij de tweede bocht. Het voordeel van de middelste plekken is dan weer dat je een goed zicht hebt op de bochten 4 en 5. Maar waar je ook zit op deze tribune: het uitzicht is fenomenaal en wijds. Ook zit je hier dicht bij de F1 fanzone. 

Grandstand T3 (Nord)

Tribune 3 bevindt zich bij de derde bocht, en bestaat uit de vakken A tot en met D. Het is een van de nieuwste tribunes op het circuit. Door de verhoging waarop deze tribune staat heb je een geweldig panorama-uitzicht op de baan en de prachtige omgeving. Daarnaast is de vlakbij gelegen bocht 3 ook nog eens een van de beste plekken om in te halen. Samen met de Center Grandstand is dit een echte Max Verstappen-tribune, en wordt daarom ook wel de Max Verstappen Premium tribune genoemd. Kaarten worden exclusief in Nederland verkocht.

De Schönberg Grandstand

Een andere toplocatie is de Schönberg Grandstand. Deze ligt tussen bocht 3 en 4. Vooral bocht vier staat garant voor veel actie. Na deze bocht mogen coureurs hun DRS activeren en volgen er prachtige duels op het rechte stuk na de bocht. Omdat de tribune op een heuvel staat, heb je ook nog eens een uitstekend zicht op de rest van de baan.

De Center (Mitte) Grandstand

Deze tribune staat precies tegenover de Red Bull-tribune, en is bekend vanwege het grote stierenbeeld dat zich erboven bevindt. Je hebt hier een geweldig zicht op de bochten 5 en 6, want deze tribune staat heel dicht op de baan. Daarnaast kun je ook genieten van het stuk weg tussen bocht 1 en 2. Dit is de tribune die tijdens het weekend dienst doet als Max Verstappen-tribune. Verwacht hier dus duizenden in het oranje geklede Nederlanders en een geweldige sfeer.

Grandstand T8

Deze tribune is in 2022 toegevoegd om aan de groeiende vraag naar kaarten te voldoen. Je kijkt uit op de bochten 7 en 8. Dit is een van de snelste stukken van het circuit, vlak voor de laatste bocht.

Grandstand T9 en T10

Deze twee tribunes zijn ook twee recente aanwinsten langs het parcours. Je hebt hier een uitstekend zicht op de laatste twee bochten van het parcours, de Jochen Rindt en T10 bocht. Tribune T9 geeft een beter zicht op de bochten, terwijl tribune T10 ook nog een goed zicht geeft op het rechte stuk bij de start/finishlijn.

Algemene toegangskaarten

In plaats van een plek op de tribune kun je er ook voor kiezen om algemene toegangskaarten te kopen. De Red Bull ring biedt van alle Formule 1-circuits misschien wel de beste algemene plaatsen, en dat voor een relatief lage prijs. De heuvels, die ook dienen als natuurlijke geluidswal, bieden een uitstekend zicht op grote delen van het parcours. Ook staan overal grote schermen waarop de race te volgen is. Vooral de plekken bij bocht 2, 3, 9 en 10 zijn erg gewild. Met een verrekijker, deken om op te zitten en bescherming tegen zon en regen ben je verzekerd van een geweldige ervaring.

Bijzondere tickets

Bij Ticket+Travel kun je ook terecht voor bijzondere tickets. Zo kun je bij ons kiezen voor het 3 Corner ticket, waarbij je op vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag steeds op een andere tribune plaatsneemt. Daarnaast is er een beperkt aantal exclusieve VIP-tickets in de Red Bull Racing Paddock Club. Deze bevindt zich direct boven de pitlane, zodat je een perfect zicht hebt op de start en finish. Rondleidingen

Wat is er leuker dan zelf achter de schermen te kijken van de Red Bull Ring, en toegang te krijgen tot de ruimtes die normaal voor het publiek gesloten zijn? In Spielberg is het mogelijk om rondgeleid te worden op de racebaan. Ook bestaat de optie om zelf rond te racen op het circuit!

De Red Bull Ring Tour

Met de Red Bull Ring Tour krijg je een rondleiding achter de schermen van het circuit. In anderhalf uur bezoek je samen met een gids het Media Center, de VIP-lounges en de Race Control. In de Red Bull Wing vind je een voertuigententoonstelling, en kun je alles vragen wat je wilt weten. Neem in elk geval voldoende geld mee voor je bezoek aan de fanshop. Hier kun je kleding, accessoires en unieke items van zowel Red Bull Racing als AlphaTauri vinden. Uitblazen doe je in het Wing Café.

De rondleidingen worden gegeven in het Duits, Engels en Italiaans.

De prijs bedraagt €19 per persoon, en €9 voor kinderen onder de 15 jaar, studenten en mindervalide bezoekers. Jongeren onder de zes jaar hebben gratis toegang. Ook is er een gezinskaart van €45 voor twee volwassenen en maximaal drie kinderen.

Zelf racen op het circuit

Heb je genoeg gespaard, dan zijn er diverse mogelijkheden om zelf achter het stuur te kruipen en het ronderecord op de Red Bull Ring wat scherper te stellen. Zo kun je bijvoorbeeld het circuit een half uur lang onveilig maken in een Porsche 718 Cayman GT4. De prijs bedraagt €415. Daarvoor krijg je eerst een instructie en ga je daarna het parcours op met een professional aan je zijde. Op de website van de Red Bull Ring vind je nog tientallen andere mogelijkheden op en rond de baan, variërend van een chauffeursopleiding tot offroad buggy rijden.

Met een reis naar de Grote Prijs van Oostenrijk ben je verzekerd van een geweldige wedstrijd. Het razendsnelle parcours en de vele mogelijkheden tot inhalen zorgen immers altijd voor spektakel. We brengen een aantal gedenkwaardige races in herinnering. Via een race op de Österreichring en de A1 Arena eindigen we met een recente race op de Red Bull Ring.

Grand Prix van Oostenrijk 1987

Totale chaos, een betere kwalificatie is er niet te vinden voor de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk 1987. Zodanig zelfs, dat de FIA na afloop verklaarde dat de baan niet geschikt was als Formule 1-circuit. De Österreichring werd onmiddellijk van de kalender geschrapt. Het ging eigenlijk al mis tijdens de training. Een hert, geschrokken van het gebulder, strak de baan over en werd aangereden door Stefan Johansson. Het dier overleefde het niet en de wagen lag volledig in de kreukels. De Zweed zelf kwam er ondanks de zware crash wonderbaarlijk goed vanaf en kon zondag zelfs starten.

Op zondag ontstond er bij de start een enorme crash, waardoor de race meteen werd afgevlagd. De tweede start eindigde zelfs in een totale ravage. Nigel Mansell, die vanaf de tweede positie was begonnen, had problemen met zijn koppeling en kroop als een slak over het asfalt. Achter hem moest worden afgeremd op de smalle baan, waardoor er een enorme botsing ontstond. Twaalf auto’s werden het slachtoffer van deze kettingbotsing. Met een vertraging van twee uur kon de GP daarna pas echt beginnen. Bij de derde startpoging reden veel coureurs in een reservewagen. Mansell won uiteindelijk de race, voor Nelson Piquet, Teo Fabi en Thierry Boutsen. De winnaar kwam er overigens niet zonder kleerscheuren vanaf. Tijdens het vieren van de overwinning stootte Mansell zijn hoofd hard tegen een viaduct, wat hem een enorme bult opleverde. Na deze Grand Prix duurde het maar liefst tien jaar voor Oostenrijk terugkeerde op de Formule 1- kalender.

Grand Prix van Oostenrijk 2002

De één na laatste GP op het A1 Circuit zal de geschiedenis in gaan als ‘de grote Ferrari-schande’. De Grote Prijs van Oostenrijk was in 2002 de zesde race van het seizoen. Vier van de vijf vorige races waren gewonnen door Michael Schumacher. Daarmee had de Duitser al een behoorlijke voorsprong opgebouwd op zijn jongere broer Ralf en op Juan Pablo Montoya.

Ook deze race werd volledig overheerst door de Ferrari’s van Rubens Barrichello en Michael Schumacher. Bij het ingaan van de laatste ronde kon de Braziliaan de winst nauwelijks meer ontgaan, met ruim een seconde voorsprong op zijn teamgenoot. Vlak voor de finish kreeg Barrichello echter de opdracht om zijn teamgenoot te laten winnen. Zo kon Schumacher het maximale aantal punten scoren voor het kampioenschap. Het leidde tot een absurd einde van de race. Barrichello moest vlak voor de finishlijn flink afremmen om de Duitser alsnog te laten passeren. Tot grote woede van het publiek, dat de Ferrari coureurs bij de prijsuitreiking op een fluitconcert trakteerde. Op het podium gaf Schumacher de winnaarstrofee aan zijn teamgenoot, maar het leed was al geleden. Het voorval op het podium leidde tot een boete van liefst 1 miljoen dollar voor Ferrari, Schumacher én Barrichello. Wel liet de FIA weten dat Ferrari met deze actie de reglementen niet had overtreden. Het incident leidde er wel toe dat teamorders, ‘die de raceuitslag verstoorden’, met ingang van het nieuwe seizoen zouden worden verboden ..

Grand Prix van Oostenrijk 2022

In 2022 ging Max Verstappen voor zijn 5e winst op zijn thuisbaan. In 2018 en 2019 had de Nederlander er gewonnen. En in 2021 werden er zelfs twee GP’s verreden op het circuit, nadat vanwege de coronapandemie enkele circuits waren geschrapt. De tweede race werd verreden onder de naam Grote Prijs van Steiermark. Verstappen won beide races, die een week na elkaar werden afgewerkt.

Ook in 2022 leek alles op rolletjes te lopen. Na tien races leidde de Nederlander in de WK-stand, met een flinke voorsprong op Sergio Pérez en Charles Leclerc. Op de zaterdag won Verstappen de sprintrace, en pakte daarmee weer acht punten. Het leverde hem ook pole position op voor de race van zondag. Wel leek er een probleem te zijn na de nieuwe updates die de auto had gekregen. De banden van Verstappen sleten een stuk sneller dan die van Ferrari-concurrenten Leclerc en Sainz.

En dat bleek tijdens de GP zelf een onoverkomelijk probleem. Verstappen hield bij de start de kop, maar werd na 12 rondes ingehaald door Leclerc. Twee keer kwam de Monegask met achterstand uit de pits, maar steeds weer wist hij Verstappen te passeren. Door de snelle slijtage zag Verstappen zijn kansen in rook opgaan. Ook de Ferrari van Sainz leek hem nog te gaan passeren, maar Sainz moest naar de kant toen de vlammen uit zijn motor sloegen. Zo won Leclerc de GP van 2022, voor Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton. De snelste ronde leverde Verstappen wel een bonuspunt op, maar Leclerc verkleinde zijn achterstand tot 38 punten. Daarmee was het na deze race nog niet gedaan in de strijd om de wereldtitel.

De Red Bull Ring ligt in het plaatsje Spielberg, in de deelstaat Steiermark. Dit is de groenste regio van Oostenrijk, waar liefst 60% van het gebied bestaat uit bos. Rondom het circuit vind je kleine plaatsen als Fohnsdorf, Seckau en Zeltweg. Een prachtig gebied, waar je talloze campings vindt. Hiervan wordt dan ook gretig gebruik gemaakt door de Formule 1-fans.

Naast het bijwonen van de GP van Oostenrijk biedt de directe omgeving meer dan genoeg vermaak om je enkele dagen bezig te houden. Een geweldige natuur, prachtige uitzichtpunten en indrukwekkende musea. En dat allemaal binnen een straal van tien kilometer rond de Red Bull Ring. De volgende attracties moet je zeker bezoeken tijdens je verblijf in Spielberg.

Het Militair Luchthavenmuseum in Zeltweg

Dit militair luchtvaartmuseum ligt vlakbij de Red Bull Ring. Je vindt hier een grote verzameling van historische vliegtuigen en voertuigen van de luchtmacht. Ook uniformen, pilotenkleding en allerlei apparatuur worden hier tentoongesteld. Als echte Formule 1-fanaat mag je deze locatie niet missen. Op de landingsbaan naast het museum begon het allemaal voor de Grote Prijs van Oostenrijk. Hier werden namelijk van 1963 tot en met 1968 de eerste Grand Prix verreden. Daarna werd het gesloten wegens de onveiligheid. Als je er toch bent is het leuk om deze historische plek te bezoeken. Het museum zelf is geopend van 23 april tot en met 26 oktober, van dinsdag tot en met zondag van 09.00 tot 17.00 uur. De prijs bedraagt slechts €3. Op de eerste zondag van de maand heb je zelfs gratis toegang.

Wandelen in de Oostenrijkse Alpen

We zeiden het al, de omgeving van de Red Bull Ring is prachtig. Geen enkel circuit ligt op zo’n droomachtige locatie. Je kunt je probleemloos terugtrekken van het gebulder op het circuit en even verderop genieten van de rust.

Een hoogtepunt in de directe omgeving is de Sillweger Aussichtswarte . In het nabijgelegen dorpje Fohnsdorf, op zes kilometer van de Red Bull Ring, kun je vanaf het centrale plein een wandeling maken. Via een soms wat steil maar schitterend wandelpad loop je in een half uur naar het uitkijkpunt. Op ruim 900 meter hoogte vind je hier een houten huisje en een uitkijkplatform. Vanaf deze idyllische plek heb je een geweldig zicht op de Seetaler Alpen en het dal.

Een ander hoogtepunt is de Turm in Gebirge , zo’n zeven kilometer van het circuit verwijderd. In zo’n anderhalf uur loop je via de Tremmelberg naar deze wonderschone uitkijktoren. Vanaf de 42 meter hoge toren heb je zelfs een mooi uitzicht op een groot deel van het circuit van de Red Bull Ring. De toegang bedraagt slechts €2. Heb je last van hoogtevrees, dan is deze toren wellicht iets te hoog voor je.

Mijnbouwmuseum Fohnsdorf

Het gebied rond de Red Bull Ring was sinds de 17e eeuw een mijnbouwgebied. Hier bevond zich de diepste bruinkoolmijn ter wereld. Met gevaar voor eigen leven dolven de mijnwerkers hier honderden jaren kolen. In Fohnsdorf zijn enkele fraaie overblijfselen te zien, zoals de 3600 pk stoommachine en de indrukwekkende 47 meter hoge boortoren. Onder leiding van een oud-mijnwerker krijg je hier alles te horen over deze tijd. Het Bergbaumuseum Fohnsdor f ligt op zeven kilometer van de Red Bull Ring. Reserveren is verplicht, aangezien het museum alleen kan worden bezocht met een gids. De rondleidingen vinden dagelijks plaats om 09.00, 11.00, 13.00 en 15.00 uur en duren anderhalf uur.

Hotel restaurant G ’ Schl ö ssl Murtal

Niet verder vertellen, maar tijdens de Grote Prijs van Oostenrijk is dit het hotel waar Max Verstappen verblijft. Opvallend genoeg slaapt hij meestal in kamer 13. Ook Sebastian Vettel slaapt hier graag. Tijdens hun verblijf dineren de coureurs gewoon in de eetzaal. Wat let je om hier het avondmaal te gebruiken? Het hotel staat bekend om zijn uitstekende lokale keuken. Geniet van fiakergulasch, Wiener Schnitzel of Seetaler lam. De keuken is geopend van 14.00 tot 22.00 uur. Je zult er wel vroeg bij moeten zijn met je reservering. Wil je er helemaal een feest van maken, dan blijf je ook gewoon slepen in dit fraaie landhuis.

Vanaf 2014 is de GP Oostenrijk terug op de kalender. Tot 2003 werd de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk op de toenmalige A1-Ring gereden. Het circuit heeft sindsdien een complete metamorfose ondergaan en is tevens omgedoopt tot de Red Bull Ring. De Red Bull Ring is eigendom van - wat de naam misschien al verraadt -  de energiedrankjesgigant Red Bull. De Red Bull Ring is één van de kortste, maar ook snelste circuits op de Formule 1-kalender. De lay-out en spannende inhaalmomenten maken de GP Oostenrijk een populaire race bij zowel de coureurs als de fans. Dit jaar vindt de F1 Oostenrijk plaats in het weekend van 28 juni tot en met 30 juni 2024.

De Red Bull Ring gelegen bij het plaatsje Spielberg met zijn ultra moderne uitstraling heeft toch wel een behoorlijke geschiedenis te vertellen. Het huidige circuit werd in 1969 gebouwd en kreeg eerst de naam Österreichring mee. Het was de Belgische F1 held Jacky Ickx in de Ferrari die de eerste F1 Grand Prix won in 1970. In 1995 werd het hogesnelheidscircuit verbouwd vanwege een aantal ongelukken en kreeg het de naam A1 Ring. In 2003 werd daar de laatste F1 Grand Prix gereden en was het meer dan 10 jaar "stil" in Oostenrijk.

De F1 Grand Prix van Oostenrijk is gewoonlijk vóór het raceweekend uitverkocht. Slechts een beperkt aantal kaarten voor zaterdag en vrijdag zijn aan de poort te koop. Wij raden je ten zeerste aan je ticket vooraf te kopen.

Verkopen jullie kaartjes voor één dag?

Nee, er zijn alleen driedaagse tickets beschikbaar.

Zijn er speciale kaartjes voor gehandicapten?

Rolstoelgebruikers en andere houders van een invalidepas krijgen 50% korting op de reguliere toegangsprijs. Mensen in een rolstoel hebben alleen toegang tot de Start-Ziel tribune.

Ik neem kinderen mee naar de F1 Grand Prix van Oostenrijk. Hebben ze gratis toegang?

Historie van de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk

De Red Bull Ring, gelegen nabij het dorpje Spielberg, prijkt sinds 1996 op de Formule 1-kalender. Ontstaan in 1969 als de Osterreichring, onderging het circuit in 1995 een transformatie door Herman Tilke, voorheen bekend als de A1-ring. Parking, Access & Orientation at the Red Bull Ring

• Trackside Parking : The good news if you are driving to the circuit is that most trackside parking is FREE. You will be guided to the closest available car park depending on when you arrive and your arrival route. Arriving as early as possible is recommended. • Entry Gates : Six access gates provide access to the Red Bull Ring, see the map above.
• Se curity Checks (Prohibited Items) : You are allowed to bring in plastic bottles, drink cans and food (for personal consumption). Folding/camping chairs are allowed in General Admission areas. Prohibited items include alcohol, glass bottles, flares, animals and barbeques. The full list of allowed and prohibited items inside the Red Bull Ring at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix will be available closer to the race.
• Trackside Radio : Tune into Ring Radio on 92.3 MHzs for live commentary and updates throughout the weekend.

2024 Austrian Grand Prix Schedule

• Full On-Track Schedule: The full on-track schedule for the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix has been conformed by Formula 1 and can be found below.
• F1 Sprint Race : For the third year in a row, the Red Bull Ring will host an F1 Sprint race in 2024. It will be the third of six F1 Sprint events in the 2024 season.
• Support Categories : Formula 2, Formula 3 and the Porsche Supercup have been confirmed as the main support categories at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix.
• Legends Parade : Unique to the Red Bull Ring, the Legends Parade features historic racing cars and drivers, normally from a single make. In 2024, the Legends Parade celebrates former winners of the Austrian Grand Prix and their race-winning machinery. Drivers taking part this year include Emerson Fittipaldi, Johnny Herbert, David Coulthard, Gerhard Berger and Jos Verstappen. More details here .
• Styrian Green Carpet : Similar to the Melbourne Walk in Australia, the drivers and team principals arrive at the circuit on race day (Sunday, 09:00-11:00) via the “Styrian Green Carpet” near the Welcome Center at the Red Bull Ring (behind the Main Grandstand).
• Thursday Pit Lane Walk :  Walk down the pit lane and see the teams setting up the cars for a weekend of racing. This is a ticketed event and you will also need to have a 3-day race ticket to participate. Tickets cost €30 and can be bought here . We recommend securing your access as early as possible, as the event does sell out. The pit lane walk takes place on Thursday June 27, from 15:20-17:40. Admission is from 13:30, at the start/finish grandstand.

F1 Fanzone & Steiermark Village at the Red Bull Ring

• The Fanzone is located close to the South West and Red Bull Grandstands on the outside of Turn 1, about ten minutes walk from the Main Grandstand. You’ll find the best choice of food, drink and merchandise, plus a small stage with autograph sessions over the weekend. It’s also the location for the pits area of the Legends Parade, where you can get a closer look at this year’s machinery. Regular internal shuttle buses/trains connect the main Fanzone with the T3 grandstand and general admission areas at the top of the circuit.
• A smaller Fanzone called the Steiermark Village is located behind the Main Grandstand, see map above. Both fanzones have stages with live music, DJs and other performances.
• Both fanzones are open across the weekend at the following times: Thursday 12:00-20:00, Friday 08:00-22:30, Saturday 08:00-22:30, Sunday 07:00-20:00
• F1, F2, F3 drivers and F1 team principals will be appearing in the main Fanzone across the weekend.  The F2/F3 drivers will be appearing on Thursday from 15:30-16:30, while the F1 drivers will be appearing on Friday (10:45-11:05 & 11:55-12:15) and Saturday (09:25-10:00 & 10:45-10:55). For these sessions, we recommend gettting there early if you want autographs or selfies with your favourite drivers.

Food & Drink at the Red Bull Ring

The best selection of food and drink can be found in the Fan Zone. Expect lots of tasty Austrian fare; schnitzel burgers and bratwurst were reasonably priced at around €10 and cheaper options were available. Large beers (500ml) are around €5 and there was an array of Red Bull products for around €4. Away from the fan zone, there are fast food outlets located behind most grandstands. The Red Bull Ring does operate a token/card system, but you can also pay with cash or card for food, drink and merchandise at the track.

Hi. I bought tickets in the grand stand “first row”. What is the deal with those seats, minimal visual obstaculs? What does it mean? Is it too bad? Section Q seats 9 and 10, first row. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, I don’t know. I guess there is the catch fencing or some other obstacle that is preventing a good view of the circuit. I understand the price was lower as a result. I haven’t sat in every seat at the Red Bull Ring, so cannot give you more info at this stage. I guess you will find out. Hope it’s not too bad!

yesterday i bought two Tickets for the pit lane walk. Is it a paper Ticket or e-ticket. The 19,00 Euro are for sending the Tickets? I live in Germany. Hopefully it is all right.

Hi Sarah, good question! It looks like the organizers have introduced cashless payments this year, but only for the concert area. More info is here .

We just got back from the Austrian GP and the only option is to buy a card. You can choose what amount of money you want to put on it. This is the only way to pay for food and drinks. Merchandise can be bought with cash only. At the end of the weekend you can trade your card for cash.

Here’s the latest information on access to the circuit I could find. Food is definitely not a problem. Beer should be fine, but only in plastic bottles.

Hi Steven, you should be able to get some autographs from drivers during the Pitlane walk on Thursday afternoon. Probably they will publish some kind of schedule on the day. You may also have some autograph sessions on the stage in the Fanzone, check signs/ask for details. Good luck!

Hi Roland, you should be able to walk around the circuit on Sunday, but clockwise only. Last time, there was no access from the general admission area near turn 2 to the Blue Red Bull grandstand area, but you can walk around the other direction. There’s some good spots to watch the action on the final corner.

Hi Pavel, I’m really surprised to read this. I don’t know of any Grand Prix venue that doesn’t allow parents with baby strollers to enter the circuit. Anyway, I just checked with a friend who took his child to the circuit today. NO problem to enter with a baby stroller!

Hello Andrew. We have tickets for seats at the Red Bull grandstand. It’s in the blue zone as you know. Is it possible for us to get in the in the other zones (yellow & green) to get a nice view? If yes: any suggestions?

Hi Mark, yes it shouldn’t be a problem to walk around the circuit. I recommend the top part of the circuit (General Admission) especially turn 2 at the top of the hill. Mitte is also good , especially if you want to try some panning photography. And finally, the last corner is also good, especially the entry, where the cars are right on the edge. Enjoy!

Yes, you are! The best spot to enter the track will be from near the end of the Main Grandstand, closer to the final corner.

Hi Adolfo, the answer is yes. It is stated in the text above. “On-site testing facilities are available for an additional cost (€33 for Antigen test valid for 48 hours and €99 for PCR test valid for 72 hours).” This facility is available outside the circuit gates.

We bought tickets last December but there is still a no land order in place from the UK and no flights (plus Austria is on the Amber list stating we’re not allowed to travel for holidays) but we’re unable to get a refund on our tickets- is there anyway to sell them on locally? Thanks

Hi JP, yes there is supposed to be. The official schedule on F1.com shows the pit lane walk. Unfortunately, I can’t find the link or any information about this on the Projekt Spielberg website. I suggest contacting the circuit. Perhaps they want to see how the pit lane walk works for Styria first.

Hi James, it wasn’t possible last weekend at the Styrian GP. But I think it will be possible this weekend. I’m not sure you will be able to walk via the Blue section, but there should be a shuttle bus from the top of the circuit (near Turn 3) down to the Fanzone. Alternatively, you can walk the long way via the Yellow and Red Zone. Here’s the map

Yes, you can. But I think you cannot go from the Blue zone to the Green zone near Turn 3. You can only walk around the other side of the circuit, via the Yellow zone. So it’s quite a long walk from the Red Bull Grandstand.

Hi Marcel, yes you can – unless there are still some restrictions next year. However, you have to walk the long way around – via the final corners of the circuit. It was never possible to go from General Admission to the Fanzone via the west side of the track (Red Bull Grandstands).

Track walk is not normally possible, sorry. However, there is a pit lane walk for 3-day ticket holders on Thursday afternoon. As for access point, you should be in luck. Normally they open up a gate just after the final corner on the outside of the track (near the start of the Main Grandstand). That will be your best place to get down to the podium ceremony. Should be good views from T10! I was at the Styrian GP this year and I forgot how much I like both the circuit and the local area. Friendly people and the race is super well organized. Enjoy!

I would choose T9 because you will have your own seat for the race. General Admission is great, but better for Friday and Saturday when there are less people. On Sunday, it can get very crowded in General Admission and you may struggle to get a good spot/view. When does the ticket “sale” for the Pit Lane Tour normally start?

There is normally no sale, the Pit Lane Walk/Tour is free for all 3-day ticket holders. Just last year, due to COVID restrictions, it was necessary to register for free tickets. But I expect this will not be required in 2022.

Hi, sorry I can’t find the updated information right now. Perhaps it’s not yet available. You SHOULD be fine with this lens, but I cannot guarantee it. Bag checks are quite strict at the Red Bull Ring, but it’s also the luck you have with the person on the gate. I would take my big lens

Hi i am going to the track for the f1 race this year. is it allowed to enter the red ticket section with a blue ticket on the practice session Friday when there are few people there? and also for the f2 race?

Yes, it should be possible. From my experience, you are able to enter all zones – apart from other fans cannot access the Blue Zone. You should also go up to the GA area at the top of the track (Green Zone). There should be a small shuttle train from the Fanzone up to the top of the circuit. Much longer to walk via Red/Yellow zones.

I have a 3 day ticket and I am wondering maybe it’s packed with people and difficult to get there and get out after each day. Considering to drive to some near train station and take a bus. It does make sense to drive. The good thing about the Red Bull Ring is that it is located close to several motorway exits. Trackside parking is free, as well. Yes, there could be some delays leaving right after qualifying or the race, but really not as bad as many other circuits.

Hi Julian, the track is generally quieter on Friday before getting busier on Saturday and busier again on Sunday. I’d personally bring my kids on the Thursday/Friday, rather than the Saturday/Sunday – but that’s up to you. As for driving routes, always best to check Google maps navigation on the day and make the decision based on the traffic levels/travel times.

Hi! Does anyone know what the ‘new’ 2022 schedule is with the pitwalk for 3day ticket holders? Is this still on Thursday? I can’t find any info about this on the european GP’s Thank you.

The full schedule has been released for the Austrian GP on both the Red Bull Ring website and the F1.com website , but no mention yet of a pit lane walk for 3-day ticket holders on Thursday. It could still be happening, but hasn’t been announced. We have to be patient, hopefully there will be good news.

we have purchased weekend tickets for this years GP but i cant find any info on whether i need to purchase a ticket for Thurs separately or whether it is just included in the weekend ticket? for Silverstone 22 it was free for the Thurs but still had to ‘purchase’ the ticket separately

There should be a “pitlane tour” on Thursday, but not yet confirmed. And yes, you will need to buy a ticket for 10 EUR. It’s written in the post

Honestly, not sure. There should be some mobile ATMs at the track, from memory. But you are actually better off paying for everything with card at the track.

This will be my second of four Grands Prix this year, but at Barcelona I couldn’t find any programmebooks. I collect them. Last year at Spa, Zandvoort and Istanbul I also noticed there where no books. Do you know if there will be some at the Red Bull Ring?

I bought a programme at Monaco last weekend. However, most races now only issue digital versions. I think it depends on the circuit, not sure if the races you attend this year will be publishing a printed programme, sorry

No Stephanie, you are too late for cheap tickets. General Admission was priced at around 100 EUR for 3 days but sold out a long time ago. If you still want to attend, you will need to pay a lot more on the secondary market.

Couple questions.

First time visiting. Got standing tickets for 2 adults and 2 kids (10,13).

The standing tickets gives access to the green area in the map right?

Parking says sold out but I guess that’s parking very close to the track? Your articles says free parking but 10-15 min walk.

Can you pay using regular credit cards? Or do you have to use the cashless card?

Hello, yes the General Admission area is the Green zone. But you should still be able to walk through the Yellow and Red Zones. The only zone off limits is the Blue Zone. You can also visit the Fanzone, which is near the first corner. And there should be shuttle trains from the Fanzone up to the entrance to the General Admission area, near Turn 3. Yes, I think the paid parking is close to the circuit and sold out, but other parking areas are free. The best parking for you would be at the top of the circuit on the edge of the Yellow zone – again, there are shuttle trains from the parking to the circuit gates. You can pay by regular credit/debit cards, or you can get the special cashless card.

Hi me and my family have general admission tickets for this year, can you walk around the whole track? will we be able to access the Fan Zone? Also this is our first time are there music acts on in the evening?

You should be able to walk around almost all of the track. The only area I don’t believe you can access is where the Red Bull grandstand is located, between Turn 1 and Turn 3 at the top of the hill. However, there is a small shuttle transfer train from the fanzone that goes all the way up to the entrance of the GA area at Turn 3. And you should be able to walk around the track in the opposite direction from the top of the hill via the final corner. As for music at night, yes, there have been concerts in the past – but I haven’t yet seen any announcements for this year. Either way, they will be local acts, not recognised international performers.

Thought the Pit Lane Walk would be general admission, but they were seperate tickets and sold out already :( Any tips on how to get 2 tickets for the Pit Lane Walk somehow?

Sorry not sure. I think there could be some warm up acts, but have to wait for updates from the Red Bull Ring

General rule of thumb now for most 2022 events is that there are no COVID requirements to enter the track. I haven’t seen any restrictions at all for the Red Bull Ring

I just read the information that the Pit Lane Walk this year requires a separate ticket, usually the 3-day ticket holder does not need an extra ticket. The ticket has unfortunately already sold out. Do you know where to buy the pit lane walk ticket other than the stated red bull website? Thank you!

I don’t think there’s another way to buy the ticket, unless you buy it secondhand from someone. There was only a limited number of tickets available, sorry

Yes parking is free but I don’t think you can park overnight, they will be making sure the parking is empty at the end of the day

hi, do you know the timings of the shuttle bus from knittelfeld to red bull ring? and also after the sprint race, how long will it take to get back to knittelfeld. sprint race will finish roughly at 5pm, so looking to book the 7pm train? will that be enough time? thank you

I don’t think the shuttle bus times are published. They are well organized and hopefully will be running frequently. I think you should be fine booking a train for 2 hours after the sprint race, but can you make the ticket flexible so you can ride the next train if you miss the one at 7pm?

We have tickets on T3(blue tickets), but in the first row. Will we be able to go to the general admission-area next to and sit on the grass if the view is bad?

And, if we want to see F2 and F1 quali on friday from 16.00, when do you reccomend arriving? We will be arriving by car.

Yes absolutely you can also watch from the General Admission area next to the T3 grandstand. Friday should be less busy than Saturday or Sunday, but I’d still be arriving as soon as you can. However, it may be quieter arriving at say 1-2pm as most people will get to the track earlier

Yes there will be, but no specific day or time has been announced. The advice from the circuit is to download the “Red Bull Ring” app (previously “Projekt Spielberg” app) and enable push notifications – they will send out more info about sessions/times over the weekend. I guess they don’t want to announce it now and be swamped with too many fans in one place at one time

Yes I think you can. Check the full list of allowed/prohibited items here . No mention of coolers. Just don’t bring any glass containers. Alcohol is fine too, in cans or plastic bottles.

You cannot sit in any grandstands on Friday, sorry. For sure there will be less people on Friday, but the Red Bull Ring doesn’t offer ‘roving access’ on this day. You can enter the other zones, including the F1 Fanzone on the outside of Turn 1. You should be able to walk around the whole track from the GA area at the top of the hill down via the final corner. But the area between Turn 1 and Turn 3 is off limits – instead, there should be a small shuttle bus/train from the fanzone up to Turn 3. And yes, you should be able to walk down to watch the podium ceremony via the route on the east side of the circuit.

At the circuit I don’t think so. I see the largest sports store/camping store is Gigasport in Fohnsdorf , about 10km from the circuit.

Sorry, I’m not sure how the view is from these discounted seats in T3 grandstand. But in general you should be aware that the T3 grandstand is set back from the track somewhat. It’s got good elevation however and the views are good overall.

They will be available via the circuit website , probably around 1-2 months before the race. Keep an eye on social media accounts and also sign up for our mailing list (choosing Austrian Grand Prix) – we will inform people as well.

Hey Andrew, Bryan again. I saw in an earlier response that there is paid parking. Is this something we should consider being in Mitte Grandstand? Also on that note, which parking lot should we shoot for (paid and/or free). As always, thank you!

Most parking at the Red Bull Ring is free. Had a quick check and there is some parking that is pretty close, but it’s expensive (79 EUR per day) and already sold out for Saturday and Sunday. More info here . I think you will be guided from the main highway to the closest available grandstand based on your tickets. The race is likely to be a sell out, so worth getting there earlier (especially on Sunday) if you don’t want to be parked too far away from the circuit.

Does the circuit accept Stubhub tickets? I understand they can’t guarantee their legitimacy, I just wanted to make sure they’ll accept them before I buy.

Absolutely no reason at this stage to be buying tickets on Stubhub. This would only be an option if all the official tickets (and tickets from official agents) are sold out, which they are not. In fact, most ticket agents, including our own, are not even on sale yet. But the answer to your question is yes, if you buy from Stubhub, your ticket should be accepted by the circuit.

Hey Andrew, I swear this will be my last question. Are tickets for Grandstand Mitte assigned specifically per seat or is it free seating? I was unable to pick a specific seat for my wife and I. It just said we will be sitting together. Looks like the confirmation just has all of the rows. See below.

Is the inner track open to ticket holders during the F1 weekend?

No you cannot enter the inner track. All the grandstands are on the outside of the track. There’s also color coded zones with some ticket checks . It should be possible to get from green zone via the yellow zone to the fanzone in the blue zone, but for sure you cannot get from the bottom of the blue zone to the top of the circuit – you can only take a shuttle bus from the fanzone up to the top of the circuit.

Looking at getting tickets to this race sense the Imola GP was cancelled and was going to be my first time going to a F1 race. Any recommendations on places to sit and good/trustworthy websites to get tickets from?

Hi Austin, you are really quite late to be organizing a trip to the Red Bull Ring this year. Tickets went on sale last year, straight after the last race. So the event has been a sell out for some time. Not only that, but it will be very hard to find accommodation as well, as everything in the area is booked out. You can stay in Vienna, but it’s a long journey to and from the Red Bull Ring each day. Our ticket agent, actually based at the Red Bull Ring, has been sold out of tickets for a while now. The circuit website still has plenty of Friday and Saturday tickets available, but nothing for Sunday. For three day or race day tickets, you would have to buy on a resale platform like StubHub etc, which we normally don’t recommend as prices are much higher and there’s a risk of fraud – even though you would be get your money back in that case, it won’t help if you are at the circuit gates and can’t get in.

Hi, I’m going to my first Grand Prix this year with two others from my family and we have General Admission weekend tickets. We have been wondering a little about the GP in general and hope we can get our questions answered here! Where do you enter the General Admission area from? Basically where do we need to walk from to get to there? And since we are staying in Graz, and driving with car, how early should we arrive at the Ring? Since Graz is approximately an hour away from the circuit.

Hello Ena, since you are driving and I assume parking at the circuit, where you enter will be determined by where you park. You can see on the circuit map that the General Admission area is the green section at the top of the circuit. Depending on where you park, there are ways to get to General Admission. For example, from the parking areas at the northeast corner of the circuit, you have a small “train/shuttle” that takes you to the gates near the Nord Grandstand. From the bottom of the circuit, near the fanzone, you have another small “train/shuttle” that takes you up to the northwest corner of the circuit, near T3 and the entrance to the GA area. It shouldn’t take much longer than an hour to get to the circuit, as it’s mostly motorways from Graz right to the circuit. Get there when you like, but be aware that the closest parking areas will get full first. Be patient leaving the circuit, especially on race day. Try to stay around a bit longer so the peak hour traffic gets out first.

Hi Dawid, almost all of the parking at the Red Bull Ring is free on race weekend. It depends what time you arrive and from which direction as to where you will be directed to park. Check the map here . If you don’t want to walk all the way to the top of the circuit, there should be a small train/shuttle bus from the F1 Fanzone (near the first corner) that runs regularly up to the top of the circuit near Turn 3. This will save your legs getting to General Admission.

No, you cannot access the fanzone at the Red Bull Ring without tickets. Monaco is unique on the calendar, with the fanzone open to the public – no other circuit has this.

Hello, I don’t think there are any races on that weekend. However you can still visit the circuit, and even take a tour. More info about tours . You can also visit the circuit shop behind the Main Grandstand.

I don’t suppose you would know when I should expect the tickets for the pit lane walk to be sent through? I purchased them the day they were released. I have emailed the company but all I was told that they would be sent soon! This was over a week ago now.

Do people generally sit in their allocated seats? Or is it first come first served. I’m in the Steiermark grandstand and I’m absolutely gutted with my seat allocation. Exactly where I emailed them and asked not to be – probably serves me right for asking. I very near the front of Block E and genuinely unsure if you can see the track based on pictures which seem to show it completely blocked by the red bull grandstand – or you can see the apex of T1 and nothing else. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Jamie. Hope it’s not as bad as you think it will be. As to sitting in your allocated seat, it depends on the day and how full the grandstand is. For the race on Sunday (and probably for qualifying), I think you will have no choice to sit in your allocated seat. But if the grandstand is only half full on Friday, you can probably sit in another part of the grandstand without too many issues.

Yes, you can. And you should be able to take a small bus/train that travels up and down the hill from the fanzone to the T3 grandstand. It goes on the old circuit road :)

Folding or camping chairs are only allowed in the General Admission areas. You won’t be able to enter the grandstand with them, sorry.

Yes, you can visit the Fanzone if you have a General Admission ticket. The easiest way is to take the small shuttle bus/train that runs from T3 down to the fanzone

You are supposed to have ordered a free ticket for your child, according to the entry regulations. Where did you buy your ticket? I suggest contacting them to ask about this. I don’t want you to have problems at the gate.

Yes most parking areas next to the Red Bull Ring are free. There is some paid parking close to the entrance gates.

Hoogtepunten

Een letterlijk hoogtepunt van de stad is de Schlossberg . Een heuvel midden in de stad met daarin een park, een mooie kloktoren en ook een groot café. Daar kunt u genieten van een schitterend uitzicht van Graz!

Een ander hoogtepunt van Graz is het Schloss Eggenberg . Dit is een romantisch kasteel met daarin een museum gevestigd. Het gebouw staat bovendien op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO.

F1 GP Oostenrijk – De Red Bull Ring te Spielberg

De F1 Grand Prix van Oostenrijk – Spielberg wordt sinds 2014 verreden op de Red Bull Ring. Het circuit heeft wellicht een van de mooiste achtergronden van alle Formule 1-races. De Red Bull Ring ligt namelijk genesteld in een groen glooiend landschap. Ook is het omringd door Oostenrijkse bergtoppen. Het circuit heette voorheen de Osterreichring (tot 1987) en later nog de A1 Ring (1997-2003). De baan bevat slechts 10 bochten, meet 4.318 meter en staat bekend om zijn snelle haakse bochten. De gemiddelde snelheid voor het baanrecord gedurende een race ligt boven de 230 km/u!

The Russian rail system is one of the largest in the world, and trains serve almost every town and city in Russia.  Train travel is a safe, comfortable and inexpensive way to get around.  In fact, it can be safer to use Russian trains than internal flights!  It will certainly be cheaper and far more interesting.  This page will help you understand Russian train system, choose the right train & on-board accommodation for you, and buy your train tickets securely online from a reputable source.

Traveller Ian Newberry reports:   "on May 19 I travelled from Moscow to St Petersburg on high-speed Sapsan train 156 leaving at 13.00.  Departure was punctual and the staff greeting passengers could not have been better - they all speak English as well as Russian.  The service on the train was extremely good and in business class a full 3 course meal was served with wines and spirits all included in the price of the ticket.  Information was supplied through screens and announcements in English as well as Russian. The train is very comfortable and arrived 5 minutes ahead of schedule at 17.40.  If one wants to avoid a night train then this is a very civilised way to travel, on a par with any equivalent TGV or ICE available in western Europe."

Buy tickets online from Real Russia

You can buy tickets online in plain English from www.trains.realrussia.co.uk , with good after-sales service if you need it.  This system is good for checking Russian train times, too, even if you plan to buy tickets at the ticket office.  You can use it to buy Russian train tickets wherever you live in the world.  If you live in the UK they can also sort your Russian visa & visa support .

Which tickets can Real Russia sell?   They sell tickets for any mainline train journey within Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Lithuania, Kazakhstan and the other ex-Soviet states, also for international journeys to or from those countries, for example Moscow to Berlin or St Petersburg to Helsinki, and also for Russian sleeping-car services within Europe, for example Paris-Moscow, Paris-Berlin or Budapest-Sofia. 

Reservations officially open 60 days before departure, but Real Russia allow you to request tickets up to 180 days ahead and they will contact you for payment when the price is confirmed.

Can anyone buy tickets using this system?   Yes, you can buy tickets online with a credit card whether you live in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or wherever.

How are tickets delivered?   If your train is e-ticketable, an e-ticket will be emailed to you.  If it's not, tickets can be collected free of charge at Real Russia's offices in Moscow or St Petersburg or they can be sent to any address worldwide.  Postage to a UK or EU address costs around £12-£15.

Who run this service?   Is it reliable?   This service is provided by Real Russia, a reputable joint UK-Russian company which has got very good reports from users.  Real Russia can also sort out your Russian visa & if necessary, Belarusian visa .

Booking tips :  Look for a train marked Firm if there is one. Firmeny trains are the best 'quality' trains, with modern coaches and good on-board service.  'TBC' means the system cannot provide a price for that particular train automatically, but they'll contact you with a cost by phone or email.  Note that even babies & infants need to have a ticket booked for them, even though they travel for free.

Buy tickets online at rzd.ru

You can also now buy Russian train tickets direct from Russian Railways at www.rzd.ru which now has an English version.  It's a bit fiddly and not as user-friendly as Real Russia, but there are no fees and it does work if you persevere.  It accepts some overseas credit cards, though not all.  It may currently reject US-issued cards, though perhaps not all.

How to buy tickets at the station

Other agencies who can arrange russian train tickets, svezhy veter - www.svezhyveter.ru/sv/rutrains.htm, way to russia - www.waytorussia.net, what are the trains like , the three types of train, the three classes of accommodation, life on board russian trains.

Whichever class of travel you choose, each coach is looked after by a pair of attendants called a 'provodnik' (male) or 'provodnitsa' (female).  The provodnik will check your ticket at the door to the sleeper when you board.  Shortly after departure, the provodnik will come round to take your ticket and the small bedding fee (less than £1).  You may be asked if you would like a glass of black Russian tea ('chai') - this costs about 15p.  Bedding (two sheets, pillowcase and towel) is then handed out in sealed packs - blankets and mattresses will already be stacked in your compartment.  After a few journeys, you will become quite proficient at making up your bed!

A samovar with unlimited free hot water is available at the end of the corridor - pack some tea or coffee, sugar, cuppa soups or water-based drinking chocolate and bring your own mug.   Most long distance trains have a restaurant car serving drinks, snacks, and inexpensive full meals - reckon on less than £7 for two courses and a couple of bottles of beer.

Security.  Are Russian trains safe for families or single women?

Yes!  There is no need to worry unduly about security on Russian trains, even for families or women travelling alone. How do you think Russian families or solo women travel?  By train, of course, like everyone else!   Just use common sense as you would in a hotel, locking your door at night and not leaving valuables unattended in your compartment.  In addition to the normal lock on the compartment door, 'Spalny Wagon' and 'kupé' compartments have a security latch which stops the door opening more than an inch or two, and which cannot be released from outside.  There's also a safe place for your bags at night - if you have a bottom bunk, there is a metal box underneath the bunk which you can only get to by lifting up the bunk - in other words, for anyone to get to your bags, they will have to shift you off your bunk first..!  Your provodniks will probably also lock the access doors at each end of the corridor at night to prevent unwanted guests.  Men and women share the same compartments in Russia, but it's generally quite safe for women travelling alone.  If you're a woman and find yourself in sharing with three men that make you uncomfortable, just ask the provodniks (carriage attendants) if they can move you.

Travel insurance & VPN

Always take out travel insurance.

You should take out travel insurance with at least £1m or preferably £5m medical cover from a reliable insurer.  It should cover trip cancellation and loss of cash & belongings up to a reasonable limit.  These days, check you're covered for covid-19-related issues, and use an insurer whose cover isn't invalidated by well-meant but excessive Foreign Office travel advice against non-essential travel. An annual policy is usually cheapest even for just 2 or 3 trips a year, I have an annual policy with Staysure.co.uk myself.  Don't expect travel insurance to bail you out of every missed connection, see the advice on missed connections here .  Here are some suggested insurers, I get a little commission if you buy through these links, feedback always welcome.

Get an eSIM with mobile data package

Don't rely on WiFi, download an eSIM with a European mobile data package and stay connected.  Most newer mobile phones can download a virtual SIM including iPhone 11 & later, see device compatibility list .  There's no need to buy a physical SIM card!  Maya.net is a reliable eSIM data retailer with a 4.5 out of 5 Trustpilot rating and a range of packages including unlimited data .

Get a Curve card for foreign travel

Most banks give you a poor exchange rate then add a foreign transaction fee on top.  A Curve MasterCard means no foreign transaction fees and gives you the mid-market exchange rate, at least up to a certain limit, £500 per month as I write this.  The money you spend on your Curve card goes straight onto one of your existing debit or credit cards.  And you can get a Curve card for free.

How it works:   1. Download the Curve app for iPhone or Android .  2. Enter your details & they'll send you a Curve MasterCard - they send to the UK and most European addresses.  3. Link your existing credit & debit cards to the app, you can link up to two cards with the free version of Curve, I link my normal debit card and my normal credit card.  4. Now use the Curve MasterCard to buy things online or in person or take cash from ATMs, exactly like a normal MasterCard. Curve does the currency conversion and puts the balance in your own currency onto whichever debit or credit card is currently selected in the Curve app.  You can even change your mind about which card it goes onto, within 14 days of the transaction.

I have a Curve Blue card myself, it means I can buy a coffee on a foreign station on a card without being stung by fees and lousy exchange rates, just by tapping the Curve card on their card reader.  The money goes through Curve to my normal debit card and is taken directly from my account (in fact I have the Curve card set up as payment card on Apple Pay on my iPhone, so can double-click my phone, let it do Face ID then tap the reader with the phone - even easier than getting a card out).  I get a little commission if you sign up to Curve, but I recommend it here because I think it's great.  See details, download the app and get a Curve card , they'll give you £5 cashback through that link.

Get a VPN for safe browsing.  Why you need a VPN

Tickets, reservations, hotel bookings and Interrail or Eurail passes are often now held on your mobile phone.  You daren't let it run out of power, and you can't always rely on the phone's internal battery or on being near a power outlet.  I always carry an Anker powerbank which can recharge my phone several times over.  Buy from Amazon.co.uk or Buy from Amazon.com .

Touring cities?  Use hill walking shoes!

One of the best things I've done is swap my normal shoes for hill-walking shoes, in my case from Scarpa.  They're intended for hiking across the Pennines not wandering around Florence, but the support and cushioning for hiking works equally well when you're on your feet all day exploring foreign cities.  My feet used to give out first and limit my day, now the rest of me gives up before they do!

Fares for Moscow's public transport network are the same for every mode of transport making it really easy to travel. See all the different tickets here !

Troika Ticket

This is the most economical option if you're spending a few days in the Russian capital. The card can be purchased and recharged at various station machines or even with the special Moscow Metro application. Your balance can be checked on the app or in the small yellow terminals inside the metro stations. A trip works out at ₽ 42 ( US$ 0.50), but if you change transport within 90 minutes, you'll only pay ₽ 23 ( US$ 0.30) for the next trip.

The day ticket for the Moscow metro can be purchased at any of the stops in the city. The price is ₽ 265 ( US$ 3.20) per day and ₽ 500 ( US$ 6) for three days.

90-Minute Ticket

The most convenient card if you want to take several types of transport within an hour and a half period. It costs  ₽ 65 ( US$ 0.80) per person and allows one metro ride and an unlimited number of trips on other types of public transport in Moscow during the time of its duration.
