I wanted to know if anyone has seen or heard of someone adding a turbo to a 2.4l journey. I would love to find a complete turbo kit.

Will not work, you are better of with buying a different car
You mean to tell my out of the all the turbo"ed cars out there with the same 2.4l engines this one can't be tuned for that.
I refuse to give up also! It can't be THAT hard since many cars are coming from the factory equipped with turbos. The engine internals should be fairly strong and able to handle 5 or 6 PSI, I'm mostly worried about the 4 speed taking on that heat but that should be resolved by adding an oil cooler. There's definitely room underneath the hood but something like an STS turbo mated to a dual exhaust setup might be ideal in this situation, but like you said tuning will still be an issue.
I believe the 2.4 is still based on the World Engine used in the Calibers.
If so possibly look for a wrecked 2008-09 Dodge Caliber SRT4 and
salvage the turbo system,it was rated at 283 hp.
See this looks a lot better then .it will not work better off buying a different car. but the idea of useing the srt4 turbo has really got my wheels turning so to speak .lol I'm on a mission to find a wreck 09 srt4.
That's also what I came across after I got the itch ..
from what I can see it would probably require a tranny swap as well, if mated to a stick it loses functionality for the wife .. it were able to bolt to a bigger auto (a 6 speed auto stick would be awesome) I'd be all over it.
I think i'll start with the small first stuff like attempting to create a CAI and eventually dual exhaust ..
Yea a cold air intake and exhaust is my first buy but I don't want it to sound like a moose caller tho and a real chip upgrade not the 69$ one
Then rims . Like the ballistic jesters.
paxmaster2000
i was thinking of the same idea. i am so glad to have bought the 4cyl. i love that the power is there right at your foot. but i think a turbo would just top it off.
A turbocharged version of the Stratus was sold in Mexico, with the 2.4 L DOHC 4-cylinder engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick. This engine produced 168 hp (125 kW; 170 PS) at 5200 rpm and 216 pound-feet (293 N·m) of torque at 2200 rpm.
That's quite a weak engine.
I think that after the time, the labor, the parts.. The cost will be WAY more than if you had bought a journey with the pentastar.
And even then, STR4 power isn't just a turbo install. There's A TON of added hardware to get those numbers.
Not to discourage anyone already WITH the 2.4.
But if you still haven't signed anything, get the v6 if you want power.
You may be right but I got my journey by ( hey honey we got a new car today . Its a new dodge journey . And then i say well what motor did you get ..I don't know ..what kind of warranty did it come with ..I don't know . It's pretty tho she said ..how much was it ..oh she knew that...what model is it hmm not sure ... So now I'm stuck with a 4 cyl which isn't so bad .. But could use some more power
Appalachian Journey
Seems like someone wants to destroy their journey. LoL
Why not just buy a used sorts car?
A 92-94 stealth would cost you what a motor swap would. Even less than what a new tranny would be. Cause that's far from warranty work. Lmao.

lord journey
yes, but this info or engine specs are related to the 1st gen (Stratus R/T and Cirrus). the 2nd Gen 2001 - 2006 the engine produced in 2001 220 hp. since 2003 to 2006 230 hp. both gens were matched with the 4 speed autostick.
0 problems, a lot of power. also..used by the Federal troopers in Mexico, very fast cars. obviously, Dodge decided to use the engine in the Neon SRT4. In Mexico, all the mopar fans are crying for the glorious days of the Chrysler turbo engine cars, because in the 80´s, 90´s and part of the 2000´s the people love the power of the turbo chrysler cars. And was a mexican design since 1995 in the first stratus r/t and chrysler cirrus. Why? because the people in the 80´s who bought a "chrysler Magnun" (K car), Chrysler LeBaron and Chrysler NewYorker, loved the turbo power, in the 90´s (all were badged Chryslers) the Spirit R/T, Phantom R/T (a.k.a Chrysler LeBaron coupe USA), Chrysler LeBaron, Chrysler NewYorker, Chrysler Shadow GTS and ES (162 hps, 2.5 intercooled turbo) and the "Special Edition" Spirit and Phantom R/T 16V (2.2 225 hps) all they wanted turbo cars.
talking again, if u have the money and time and knowledge, you can modify the 2.4 GEMA engine with turbo (mopar) or other brand. I read at jeep patriot forum few guys who are installing turbo chargers in their pats!!!
- 3 months later...
Yes... you are correct but not 100%
that specs are from the 1st gen cloud cars... Cirrus and Stratus R/T (Mexico) were rated with 168 hp.
the second gen, produced: 2001-2002 (215 hp), 2003 - 2006 (230 hp).
Btw... IS THE SAME ENGINE USED IN THE NEON SRT4!!!
the engine was created in mid 90´s by Chrysler de Mexico... very popular and loved option in that country. but obviously that 2.4 is 100% different vs our 2.4 GEMA engines!
Talking about the 2.4 GEMA engine used in the Journey: yes. is the same engine used in the Caliber, Compass, Patriot, Avenger, Sebring, Lancer, Outlander. And yes. the Caliber SRT4 is basically the same 2.4 but with some changes to manage 100 more hp vs the stock engine.
And you will need to change the computer, fuel pump.. etc etc etc...
I read at jeep patriot forum, one guy is installing a turbo into his 2.4 Pat...
I understand the want for a turbo, and if you bought used I understand having to take the 2.4L and want to add power later. However, if you bought new, why not throw the extra $$ and get the V6. Same power as the SRT4 turbo with warranty and no hassle.
Either way, good luck on the turbo hunt. Now, a turbo on the 3.6L would be something. Love to see this thing around 400hp.
- 3 weeks later...
After all your hard work and money, I really think you will be disappointed with the result... you're still better off trading the car for the V6 if you want more power.
Who remembers the dodge omni glh? That was a bad arse car. My uncle had one.
- 1 year later...
OK. If it's the same engine as the neon srt4(also the ptgt or any of the other 2.4s since the 94 cirrus) than you can EASILY make 250 ponies. With the size of the engine bay a standard set turbo fold and snail will likely fit snug, but the mexi manifold paired with a t3c flange turbo would likely fit better as it's closer to the head and the turbo is just mounted higher. You would have to run a custom intake tract(ditch the plastic stuff) and find a way to run IC piping and and find some place to shove an intercooler. The tricky part would be in the tuning. Idk if it can be done with a DSP tuner or something similar. But also being that this is a MAF run vehicle, it may not be much of an issue at all. FYI I'm running 230 horses from a 2.4 NA
I'm pretty sure this is not the same 2.4l as the older Neons etc.
The 1.8,2.0 and 2.4 engines used since 2007 are the World engines
and are in fact totally different from the previous model years.

Do you think the ECM on the DJ can be reprogrammed, or should we need to use an aftermarket ECU/ECM

My V6 RIPP Supercharged Journey
- Add to quote
- CHECK and RECHECK all charge pipes and elbow clamps before putting the bumper back on. I'd go as far to even say to do a pressure test to ensure there are 100% no leaks.
- You cannot use an Unlocked Spare PCM (either purchased by you or from HPTuners) for the tune. You MUST use your Challenger's original PCM for the HPTuner's upgrade (Unlocking service). More info in comment later on in this thread.
- Just go ahead and install one step colder sparkplugs. The NGKs RIPP sale will do.
- RIPP validated to use 5w40 for heavy racing use.
- The PCV is normally open with engine off.
- If your Bypass valve flutters when leaving off the throttle, your Bypass Valve needs adjustment.
How much boost you planning to run? Any other supporting mods planned?
The kit comes running 11 - 12 psi. To increase that would take more additional mods then I care for (pulley, tuning, pistons, rods, head bolts). Supposedly the max boost on a Pentastar 3.6l is 14 psi. But I'm pretty sure there's a good reason RIPP has their's set to 2-3 psi under that. I already have a Borla ATAK Catback exhaust and 80mm Throttle Body (from MMX). When I dyno it, it may help me gain just few more WHP.
V6Beast said: I've been wanting to Supercharge my V6 Challenger for a while and have posted about doing so on many occasions. Well... the day will soon be here. I order the RIPP SC kit and got it on sale for $5700 (4th of July sale), down from $6200. Website says 3 weeks to ship. I plan to post about tuning, installation details, performance changes, and share any other experiences about it. I'm also planning to do a detailed install with some video, possibly on YouTube. My hope is that this will provide some additional insight for anyone curious about supercharging their V6 Challenger, or information on RIPP Superchargers. I'm pretty excited and can't wait to see what the kit can do. I'm going to install it myself and I will do some data logging before I install it, after initial installation, and after I get a dyno tune to compare the differences. Let the supercharged journey begin... Click to expand...
Switch to premium gas two to three tanks before the install. You will want the octane already there for first spark. Looking forward to your build thread.

8psi is what the 5.7 can safely run (my setup runs closer to mid 9s but I run 93 shell and have a conservative tune) although there are folks that run higher on stock internals. Heard quite a few running 10psi with water/meth injection. The 6.4s on the other hand are more susceptible to damaged ring landing due to the design of the piston and higher static CR . 11-12psi on a V6 which has a CR of 10.2:1 seems risky, but it is all aluminum engine (cylinders are not attached at the deck though) and the block has oil squirters for the pistons (like the 6.4). I was looking to see if my 2017 durango GT can be supercharged but the CR is 11.3:1 and uses variable valve lift (intake side only)...so have not seen anything available.

Good luck with your build. Looking forward to seeing your progress👍
Can't wait to hear about this build!
I thought the Ripp was always a Vortech V3 based centrifugal? A Guy
As others have stated, don't sleep on the brakes. You want to go fast, got to stop fast. Good luck and looking forward to seeing the build.
I've done a mini upgrade. I put a complete Powerstop kit Z26 (pads and rotors) all around. Stops way better than what came OEM. I'll test it out once the SC Kit is installed. But I think I'll be okay. My OEM rotors ended up having hotspots and were causing bad vibrations when stopping at high speeds. OEM are Bosche, which surprised me they got bad like that after only about 3 years (but I do drive it like I stole it already, wait until the SC is in...LOL).

Centrifugal superchargers DO NOT produce linear boost Roots type do : ) With a Centrifugal blower boost increases as rpm increases
SickToo said: Linear View attachment 1120098 “in a straight line” AND “Involving one dimension only” As in X psi Linear Click to expand...

Eh... whatever. Linear, Leonardo, differential. It doesn't really matter. Each type has advantages and disadvantages no matter what graphs or terms thrown at each other, but the Centrifugal is simply the most efficient. It can offer higher boost with a lot less displacement, with less parasitic loss from turning it, and less heat saturation during operation. Be happy with what you got, I know I will.
I will say with a PD SC'er you get a bunch of low end torque which makes for a great tire melting machine...but tricky to launch off the line. I remember back in the day guys running big block jet boats with a roots and twin turbos (gale banks system). It gave consistent boost both low and high rpm.
I plan on doing an unboxing video. I'll post the link. I may just end up doing an entire series (unboxing, any tuning, data logging, etc). To share the entire journey from stock to supercharged and beyond. Ripp has you do a series of different data logs and then send them in to narrow in the tune (send a tune back if it needs adjustments). I'm sure mine will because I have few mods that could affect the tune. They want a start up and idle log, drive log, then WOT log. But even after all those, they still suggest a dyno tune. On a side note, if anyone is looking for a used Banks PedalMonster for a V6 Challenger, let me know as I'll be removing mine as soon as I supercharge it and have no need of it.
Here's my what's in the kit video: Unboxing a RIPP Supercharger Kit for V6 Challenger. - YouTube
Xylander said: Not sure I'm a fan of that kit with its central placement. The ProCharger mounts off to the side. Sure, ducting will be longer and so on, but you don't have to cut into the support structures or anything like that. It's a pure bolt-on that's reversible. Click to expand...
I really don't want to mod the kit. They test them to be as safe and reliable as possible. That's why I was just looking at what I get for the price of the kit. If I was an avid racer I'd have no qualms modding the kit further and making my own tune adjustments. This is just a daily that I want more power from. Maybe this kicks me into racing at speedways and I do make mods later. But it just wasn't my initial intent. If I do go there...I'm going all forged internals then.
I can't speak for RIPP, but ProCharger has the pulleys in stock and you can order whichever one gives you the desired boost. If you were to opt for their tuner kit instead of the HO or HO Stage II, you've got to select the pulley size. I also wouldn't call changing the pulley "modding the kit." That's kind of like par for the course for centri blowers in as much as it is that you have to change the plug temp. The initial pulley is a one-size-fits-all type that gets the thing running. It isn't going to be optimal for all uses. Just know that it is not only common, but typical to change out the pulley for your desired outcome.
The spare PCM is at HP Tuners to get unlocked finally. As soon as it comes back, the kit is going in. Been a month since I bought it and can't wait to get it installed. I also found a local dyno shop that will tune it for about $650 (another quoted me $800). Interestingly, talking to the one dyno tech, they had a Vortech supercharged Charger in the shop for only making 1lb of boost after the supercharger come back from being rebuilt by Vortech (my guess is it leaked the oil and burned it up so it had to get fixed). But they are familiar with HP Tuners. I'll install it and wait about a month to make sure it is running decent (I get 1 year worth of RIPP support, even for RTD Tunes).
