Customer service is subpar. Making customers wait 25 minutes for a purchase because they've not staffed correctly for quick sales. Not everyone who shops there needs a piercing. ill shop else where next time!

If you have ever woken up and thought: "Today is a good day for an infection," Silver Safari is the place for you!

I've gotten a lot of piercings done and this place is by far the best place I've been to. My piercer was Anna, super helpful and made me feel comfortable. I love the placing of my piercing and couldn't have gone to a better shop. They ask so use numbing gel and I've never had that before. Thank you!!

I had a really pleasant experience, the place was so clean and the staff super friendly and helpful. I didn't wait much throughout my visit and I got my nose pierced really fast. The prices were also affordable and they had a good variety of jewelry! It didn't hurt much and the staff was so professional and gentle. I also loved that they had a private area for piercings, it made me much more comfortable. I will definitely come again!

I took my 13 year old daughter here to get her nose pierced yesterday. The entire staff was very friendly and professional and the place is super clean The nice lady (Sarah) who peirced her was very professional and made the entire experience very comfortable for my daughter.

By far the worst piercing experiences at this company. I've been to multiple of their locations and at all of them they have piercers that are no knowledgeable about what they are doing. Their companies standard for quality in jewelry is so bad all of my piercing done by them have become infected and i've had to get them repierced elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend ever trusting them with your piercing or jewelry switches. thumbs down from me.

I went in for a septum piercing and asked for a small hoop that fit tightly around my nose. When they put the hoop in it was huge and I asked sarah my piercer if there was any smaller jewelry, she told me no and didn't offer to take it out or change it to a horseshoe or anything. I have had good experiences at Silver Safari previously, but I feel like they did not listen to my wishes at all and let me feeling really unhappy with the piercing I was excited to get.

Went in to get a replacement ring for a nipple piercing and the gal with the cute pink buzz cut offered great service. Found a matching ring for me and put it in. Very affordable and efficient. Greatly appreciated the friendly and prompt service.

I had my eyebrow pierced here in 2016, and just recently brought our girls here to get their ears pierced for their birthdays. The staff is wonderful and the store is clean. My only issue is that when our eldest daughter had her ears pierced, she told them that they felt too tight in the back, and she was kind of dismissed. A couple of days later, she told me they hurt and they felt too tight - like, so tight, they couldn't heal. I gave her some squishy backings and that helped, but I wish they would have listened to her. I plan on getting a daith and a possible tragus piercing here soon. I'm hoping I will be listened to.

Went here with my girlfriend and one of my friends to get me first ever piercing and it was a terrible experience to say the least. Had to wait about 30mins just to get inside and get signed in on the waiting list which they said was approximately 15mins, which turned into about 2 hours of standing and waiting with no place to sit. Once they finally called us to come and get pierced the lady that pierced us was most definitely not trained properly and did a terrible, very very painful job of piercing our noses. All 3 of us could not believe how extremely painful it was, especially since my girlfriend and my friend both have several other piercings that were not even close to as painful as these were. To make a long story shorter I do not recommend this place to anyone that wants to get a piercing done.

Where to watch Fourth of July fireworks in Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, other Wisconsin cities

Fourth of July is right around the corner, which means it's time to figure out where you'll be ringing in the night with fireworks. Here's a guide of Independence Day celebrations across the state, with everything from fireworks and parades to water ski shows and cornhole tournaments.

Though the city has canceled lakefront fireworks this year, plenty of neighborhoods are still hosting Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks. All 10 parks below will have a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. on July 4.

Madison and surrounding communities

• Breese Stevens Field: The annual Festival Foods Lights the Isthmus in downtown Madison will run from 6 to 10 p.m. June 29. The lineup includes live music from local bands, food, games and a 20-minute fireworks display. General admission tickets start at $13 , with free admission for children under 12.
• Warner Park: The Madison Mallards, a summer league baseball team, will celebrate Independence Day during its July 3 game against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. A 20-minute fireworks show will ring in the 5:35 p.m. game at 2920 N. Sherman Ave. Tickets start as low as $21 .
• DeForest : North of Madison, the village will hold Fourth of July celebrations on July 3 and 4 at Fireman’s Park, located at 300 Jefferson St. The fireworks show kicks off at dusk Wednesday, followed by a car show, parade and freedom run on July 4. • Monona: The city’s annual Monona Community Festival runs for July 3 and 4 with an all-day beer and wine tent, a cornhole tournament, art fair and drag bingo, among other entertainment. Fireworks will close out the festival at 9:20 p.m. on July 4. Organizers also recently announced that this year’s festival will be the last, due to a combination of fewer volunteers, increased event costs and new regulations. See the complete schedule here .

The city will host a fireworks show on July 3 at 9:45 p.m. from Appleton Memorial Park, located at 1620 E Witzke Blvd.

Eau Claire will shoot fireworks off of High Bridge on July 4, right near downtown. You can watch the show from surrounding parks and bridges, including Madison Street Bridge, which will be closed starting at 5:30 p.m. for people to watch fireworks.

Fond Du Lac

Fond Du Lac will celebrate Fourth of July on July 4 at Lakeside Park, located at 555 N Park Ave. The festivities will kick off with an Americana concert by the city’s Symphonic Band, before fireworks at 9:45 p.m. Check out this guide for more information on Fourth of July celebrations in Fond Du Lac and surrounding communities.

Downtown Green Bay will host the Festival Foods Fire Over the Fox celebration on July 4 from 3 to 10:30 p.m. The festival will include six stages of live music, more than 15 food trucks, a water ski show, inflatables, face painting and fireworks to ring in the night at 9:45 p.m.

Kenosha’s Celebrate America festival runs July 4 and 5 at 3rd Avenue and 58th Street, near the Southport Marina and Wolfenbuttel Park. This year’s celebrations include two live music stages, a carnival, food vendors and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. on July 4.

Manitowoc’s Fourth of July celebrations are part of SubFest , an annual celebration hosted by Wisconsin Maritime Museum. This year’s festival will run from July 4 to 7 at Maritime Drive, with free entry to the general grounds and $5 discounted entry to the museum. Entry is free for all children and active duty or retired military members.

Oshkosh will host a Fourth of July celebration on July 4 at Menominee Park, located at Hazel Street and Merritt Avenue. Fireworks will ring in the festivities at 9:45 p.m. Check out this guide for more information on Oshkosh Independence Day events.

Racine will host a parade on July 4, followed by fireworks at dusk at North Beach, located at 100 Kewaunee St. Fireworks will be visible up and down the Lake Michigan shoreline, and dusk will fall at approximately 8:45 p.m. Parking in the area is limited to street parking in surrounding neighborhoods, so you might have to walk a few blocks to the beach.

The festivities will include a parade and live music on July 4, self-guided submarine tours all weekend, and a Tolling of the Boats ceremony at 9 a.m. July 5 to honor those who died while serving aboard U.S. Navy submarines. The Sheboygan Freedom Fest will kick off bright and early with a 7:30 a.m. Freedom Run at the Sheboygan YMCA. Afterwards, you can check out the city’s parade, live music line-up and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. on its lakefront near South Pier. Find a complete guide here .

Wisconsin Rapids

Independence Day celebrations in the Wisconsin Rapids will kick off near the Wisconsin River at 6 p.m. on July 4 with live music performances, but you can place tarps and blankets along the river or city parks as early as 6 a.m. that day. Fireworks and a rendition of the National Anthem are slated for 9:30 p.m. Find more information here .

Walgreens plans to close a significant amount of underperforming stores in the US

Walgreens is planning to close a substantial number of stores in the United States.

The pharmacy chain confirmed its plan to close underperforming stores in an emailed statement to USA TODAY Thursday morning after the parent company, Walgreens Boots Alliance, disclosed the news in its 2024 third quarter fiscal results.

In the statement, a Walgreens spokesperson said the company is repositioning its store footprint, noting that about 25% of its stores are not contributing to the chain's long-term strategy.

The spokesperson also said the company is working on a program to close a significant portion of these locations over the next three years.

Tim Wentworth, CEO of Walgreens' parent company Walgreens Boots Alliance, said in an interview with CNBC that the company now forecasts weaker consumer spending for the rest of the year.

How many Walgreens locations are closing?

Wentworth also said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that the company has not settled on a final number of locations to close .

Walgreens operates roughly 8,700 stores in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to its website.

Wentworth also told the Wall Street Journal that Walgreens will reduce its stake in primary-care provider VillageMD and will no longer be the company's majority owner.

Wentwort said the company is focused on improving its core business: retail pharmacy. The company is launching a "retail pharmacy action plan" that will "invest in and deliver an improved customer and patient experience across channels," according to the strategic review section of the fiscal results.

According to his interview with the WSJ, Wentworth said the company expects that it will be able to reassign staffers so that its U.S. retail footprint reduction "doesn't result in a meaningful loss of jobs."

Safari Pearl celebrates 31 years in community

Moscow and Pullman regulars are the reason local game store is still open, owner says

On Saturday in Moscow, Safari Pearl Comics celebrated 31 years of operation with a sidewalk sale. Displays of comics, board games, costumes and more sat on tables outside of the shop with two employees outside.

All the items outside were marked 31 percent off in honor of Safari Pearl’s anniversary.

Store founder Kathy Sprague left managing a restaurant in Seattle to open a comic shop in Moscow, where she grew up, she said.

“My first location was about the size of our bathroom here,” she said. “It was a mud porch in the front of a used book store. I started in this one tiny room with two long boxes of comics.”

Sprague first developed an interest in comic books in 1984 when she would go to a local comic book shop with a friend, she said.

“My best friend was flirting with the guy who owned the comic book store at the time. For her cover to go in and flirt with him, I would go in and buy comics,” she said. “They dated for a while, they broke up, and I own a comic store.”

Sprague and Tabitha Simmons co-manage Safari Pearl Comics.

“I’ve worked here off and on for 22 of our 31 years,” Simmons said. “I’m Kathy’s partner. We’ve been married for 25 years. She needed some help in the store, so I just stepped in and started helping.”

Simmons attributed the longevity of Safari Pearl Comics to its adaptability to meet the customers’ requests over time, she said.

She added that the comic industry is growing in popularity due to the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, which has also opened people’s minds to try stereotypically nerdy things.

The UI football team came to Safari Pearl to buy miniatures for their new Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition campaign, she said.

“What used to be niche no longer is,” Simmons said. “What used to be entirely nerdy is now not quite so nerdy. I wouldn’t quite go so far as to say it’s hip and cool, but it’s pretty darn close.”

Simmons added that those who do not know as much about comics have no reason to feel nervous about entering Safari Pearl.

Another reason for Safari Pearl Comic’s longtime success is that it stands out in the industry, Sprague said.

“Our store is kind of unique,” she said. “It’s one of the older stores in the country at this point because we are 31 years old. I believe we are the only lesbian-owned comic book store in the country. We’re certainly the only 31-year-old lesbian-owned comic book store.”

Many of their regular customers have helped keep their business afloat thanks to the close relationships both Sprague and Simmons have formed throughout the years, Sprague said.

“I have a customer, I’ve watched his daughter grow from a toddler,” Sprague said. “She just finished her Ph.D. in economics.”

Sprague and Simmons also host an all-day Thanksgiving dinner at Safari Pearl in which people can come in and play board games, Sprague said.

Safari Pearl Comics is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 12-5 p.m. on Sundays. It is located at 660 W. Pullman Rd. in Moscow.

Many people will spend the Fourth of July celebrating with cookouts, fireworks and parades.

If you're expecting an important package or need to handle some government business, July 4 probably isn't going to be your day.

A Mysterious Monolith Appears Near Las Vegas. Why? It’s Anyone’s Guess.

A volunteer search-and-rescue organization reported finding the monolith over the weekend near the Gass Peak trail, which is north of Las Vegas.

It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. A tall, vertical column mirroring everything around it, with no explanation of its purpose and origin.

Cue the crescendoing cascade of instruments from the theme music of “2001: A Space Odyssey,” a film that featured a large monolith. Only, this is not the view from a distant space outpost, or a part of Earth in an alternative reality. This vertical object stands by a hiking trail on the northern side of Las Vegas — a finding that police are calling “MYSTERY MONOLITH!”

“We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water… but check this out!” read a message posted on social media on Monday by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The department said that the LVMPD Search and Rescue, a volunteer organization, had spotted the object over the weekend near the Gass Peak trail , which is about 16 miles north of Las Vegas and part of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge .

The photographs shared by the police show the lone vertical slab reflecting the dry, rugged terrain and rocky desert landscape against a bright blue sky.

It was not immediately clear where the object had come from, how it had arrived — or what would happen to it next. After sharing the image on social media, a spokesman for the police department said it would not be commenting on the monolith on Tuesday.

Followers of the Police Department’s Facebook page had fun questioning the geometric figure’s origins.

“It’s always the aliens,” one person wrote.

Another suggested that perhaps the monolith was “a portal going to a different location.”

In the meantime, Las Vegas officials have decided to use the mystery as a public service announcement, sharing some safety tips for hiking Las Vegas’s trails in the same comment thread.

The department reminded people to tell someone where they plan to hike or climb and when they expect to return; to research the weather forecast ahead of a hike; to bring first aid kits “and additional food and water!” as well as “inclement weather gear” for a minimal overnight stay; and to pack a light source, a completely charged phone and a personal locator beacon.

The Las Vegas column is not the only monolith that has attracted attention in recent years after having appeared seemingly out of nowhere, stumping officials and residents and stirring curiosity.

In March, a man who was a resident of Hay-on-Wye in Powys, Wales, woke up to take a routine walk around Hay Bluff, only to find a silver monolith that he said appeared to have been made from surgical steel.

In 2020, a three-sided metal monolith , about 10 to 12 feet tall, was found at the base of a barren slot canyon in Red Rock Country in Utah. The Utah Department of Public Safety shared the finding, calling it an “unusual object” spotted in southeastern Utah during a survey with the state wildlife agency.

That same year, a 10-foot monolith was found under the Fremont Street Experience canopy in downtown Las Vegas, according to The Las Vegas Review-Journal. In both cases, the authorities did not know the origins of the monoliths, though a group of artists claimed to have fabricated one found atop Pine Mountain in Atascadero, Calif.
