Our Aqua Gel is the lightest gel we have. It has been designed for those of you who feel gels weigh the curls down and make the curls too flat. It has a super lightweight consistency, almost like water, which spreads through the hair without effort, coating all curls evenly. It is also enriched with proteins at a low dosage, to provide strengthening to weak and brittle curls. Depending on how much you apply, it may create a light cast while drying which will feel slightly crunchy to the touch, but this is only temporary. Once the hair is fully dry you just need to scrunch out the crunch to make your curls soft and bouncier than ever. 

WHO IS IT FOR?

All curl types! Particularly beneficial for weak, damaged hair. Suitable for any hair texture and particularly recommended to fine hair because of its super lightweight texture. Particularly recommended to people with medium to high porosity hair, can be used by low porosity hair because of its low protein content.

Rub the product between your hands and apply on soaking wet hair with the “praying hands” method, smoothing from top to ends.

Flip your head upside down and scrunch gently with upwards motions to encourage curl to spring back and form their pattern.

Air dry or diffuse. Make sure you flip your head in all directions while drying to increase volume. Do not touch hair while drying.

Once completely dry, scrunch again to 'break the cast', the crunchy feeling gels greate, and make your hair super soft and bouncy.

Belif the True Cream Aqua Bomb Really Is as Good as Everyone Says

I first tried Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb on a whim: I had just run out of my daily moisturizer , and stopped by Sephora to find a replacement on my way home from work. I figured I'd find something I liked enough and move on with my life, but just as I was about to reach for something random, I spotted the Belif tub and immediately recognized it. Not one but two beauty influencers I follow and wholeheartedly trust with my skin had recently posted about how much they loved the Korean beauty brand’s Aqua Bomb (it was Dana Omari of @igfamousbydana and Matt Woodcox of @dirtyboysgetclean , in case you're curious), so I was influenced to see whether it lived up to the hype.

It's been a few months—and multiple tubs—since that fateful Sephora trip, and I'm enthused to confirm that it very much does. I now get why both Dana and Matt were so obsessed, and can confirm that Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb deserves its whopping 4.5 average rating on Sephora.

Gel-based and lightweight, the Aqua Bomb doesn't clog pores, cause breakouts, or provoke excess oil production , but is actually super moisturizing and gentle enough that it won't irritate my skin. Since my skin is simultaneously very oily, sensitive, and red (love you, rosacea), this means the True Cream Aqua Bomb is one of the few moisturizers that check all of my personal boxes when it comes to combatting my skin concerns.

Also worth noting? It makes the perfect replacement for Neutrogena's discontinued Hydro Boost Gel-Cream with Hyaluronic Acid for Extra-Dry Skin (it's been quite the heated discussion on skin care Reddit ).

Belif as a brand has since become one of my favorites, since its formulations are so unique: The K-beauty brand was inspired by Scottish botanist Duncan Napier's apothecary research, and each of its products feature and harness the power of herbal remedies, and are free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic preservatives, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, mineral oils, and ingredients from animals.

I know, “herbal remedies” might sound-old fashioned: I imagined a garden gnome mixing skin care formulations in a witch's cauldron when I looked it up. But that's not the case here with Belif. Instead, the brand takes this ancient herbal approach and combines it with modern Korean skin care —it was developed and is still produced in South Korea—making it the best of both worlds. In fact, its herb and antioxidant formula, which consists of lady's mantle, malachite, plantin, and oat husk, smooths and soothes my rosacea-ridden complexion while its potent formula also minimizes the appearance of pores , removes free radicals from the skin, and boosts hydration.

Also of note? If you like to layer skin care , the Aqua Bomb works remarkably well as a base or makeup primer. The lightweight and nonsticky consistency makes a perfect base for foundation, powder, face serum , and SPF. If you're a travel-size beauty product enthusiast, you're in luck: The Aqua Bomb is conveniently available in an itty-bitty 0.84-ounce mini size for $22, so whether you want to try before you buy bigger or carry it onto your summer vacation flight, you (and your skin) are covered.

Months later, I'm so grateful for that day in Sephora—and my eerily accurate memory to recall what people post on their Instagram Stories. It's the first gel-based moisturizer I've tried that provides ample, nongreasy hydration and improves the skin from the inside out, so go ahead and consider this an #influenced success story.

My Friends Call Me ‘Babyface’ Thanks to This Japanese Exfoliator

This year’s Met Gala theme — Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons — got us thinking: There’s such great Japanese-made stuff worth knowing about (much of it that we’ve even written about before), so why not take the occasion to go really big on Japan? From the meticulously crafted to the intuitively designed to the wonderfully weird, welcome to Made in Japan Week on the Strategist.

Through some Amazon sleuthing a few years ago, I stumbled onto something seemingly too good to be true — a Japanese face peel called Cure Natural Aqua Gel , which is the No. 1 exfoliator in Japan (apparently 1 sells every 12 seconds). I had to buy a bottle. Here’s how it works: On your dry , post-cleansed face, slather two or three pumps of this jelly over your forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, down the neck, or wherever, and let it sit for five seconds. There will be no stinging sensation, no alarming smells. In an instant, the gel will react with your skin as it begins to dry a bit, at which point, you’ll use your fingers to gently massage the product in a circular motion around your face.

This is the wild part. The gel will start to shed almost immediately, much like the way pencil erasers leave those squiggly rubbings behind (it’s similar to a foot peel in that way). As one Amazon reviewer wrote, “You literally see your dead skin come off. Pretty gross, but satisfying!” That’s not exactly true (the ingredients in the peel are mostly conditioners, some of which turn into solid clumps once lathered), but it’s partly true, and definitely satisfying. Keep wiping in circular motions on your face until you feel close to clean, then rinse the speckled grossness away with warm water and pat your newly smooth, squeaky-clean face dry.

Ever since using it, my skin has felt softer, fresher, and even more youthful — never dried out or tight. • To relax the curly, gently scrunch the curls starting at the ends and pressing upward toward the scalp. This will soften the crunch and relax the curl set without any flaking or dusting.
• To achieve the firmest hold, tightest curl and maximum humidity resistant diffuse Defining Gel until it is 100% dry.
• Apply a quarter-sized amount in palms and emulsify in hands and between fingers before applying.
• For a softer finish with a medium hold, allow the hair to dry naturally.
