A nearly 9,000-square-mile region of rolling verdant hills, salty coastline, and picturesque hilltop hamlets, Tuscany is an incredible play land for the eno-curious. The region's heavy-hitters are many, from Chianti Classico, to Brunello, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano—and, of course, the famous Super Tuscans. It's filled with landmark wineries and epic winemakers who know it, so they've created incredible experiences and tasting rooms to attract visitors, from fairytale to futuristic, combing natural landscapes with award-winning architects. Whether you've only got time for a light tasting or want to make a day out of a full regional experience, we've got you covered. Exploring this countryside is the tastiest way to truly understand Tuscany, which is why we've picked our favorite wine tours and wine tastings in Florence.

Italy Florence Winery Badia a Cultibuono

Badia a Coltibuono Arrow

Badia a Coltibuono is set in a beautiful landscape of rich greens near Siena. Its charming medieval building, a historic abbey with a romantic atmosphere, looks like the backdrop to a Raffaello painting. Guests reserve their Chianti tasting in advance, so you can be sure that everyone here has done their research—you'll be in good company. The entry-level wine tasting, though well planned, doesn't include snacks. If you're looking for a bite, go for the more advanced tasting, which includes charcuterie and bruschetta.

Default

Cantina Salcheto Arrow

Cantina Salcheto enjoys an enviable and jaw-dropping location—in the beautiful hills of Montepulciano—and manages to toe the line between rustic and futuristic, if that's possible. The 40-acre main vineyard is Tuscany at its best: rolling hills, rich colors, and a state-of-the-art cellar that's impressive in looks and, of course, in inventory—here, you're drinking Rosso di Toscana IGT and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. There's no food in the basic tasting, but you can upgrade to the paired tasting or enjoy lunch at Salcheto's onsite enoteca.

Italy Florence Winery Rocca di Frassinello Winery

Rocca di Frassinello Arrow

Rocca di Frassinello is a beautiful and modernist winery designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. The feat of geometry—whose rich ambers and reds seem to fold into the greens of Grosseto along Tuscany's coastline—is a must-stop for architecture buffs and oenophiles alike. Rocca di Frassinello isn't the kind of place you just happen upon—Maremma, in the south of Tuscany, is rugged cowboy country, so there are no crowds; rather, you'll be tasting cult favorite wines alongside well-researched and well-traveled culture vultures.

Italy Florence Distillery Ornellaia

Ornellaia Arrow

Ornellaia, which produces superb Super Tuscans that most can only dream of tasting, is one of the most exclusive wineries in Tuscany, and it's the perfect place to come with wine-loving friends. The landscape itself is worth the trip, with verdant and beautifully landscaped hills dotted with castle and towers here and there along the coastline between Livorno and Grosseto. Visitors will gain a fully immersive lesson in the world of winemaker Axel Heinz's Super Tuscans and innovative wines, which are favorites among collectors sommeliers the world over.

Castello di Ama Arrow

Located in a beautiful medieval hilltop town just north of Siena in Chianti, Castello di Ama feels like an old-fashioned fairytale—one that also happens to be a destination for contemporary art. Lush vineyards produce award-winning wine; gardens are a backdrop to 14 site-specific works and installations by 13 international artists, a combination that attracts wine connoisseurs and art lovers alike. The tour and tasting of Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG also includes bruschetta, though if you're looking for something heartier, the surrounding picturesque village has an enoteca.

Italy Florence Winery Franco Biondi Santi Tenuta Greppo

Biondi Santi Tenuta Greppo Arrow

One of the most popular wineries in the world, Biondi Santi's tours and tastings are superbly rated—for good reason. This is the seat of Brunello di Montalcino, one of the most popular reds coming out of Tuscany around the world. When you book, you're asked a series of questions relating to your knowledge of and interest in wine; from there, you'll be matched with a guide and tour type. Even those with little (or no) knowledge can enjoy the sweeping views and the history of the vineyard, as well as the universally edifying experience of learning about a trade and practice.

Italy Florence Winery Antinori nel Chianti Classico

Antinori Nel Chianti Classico Arrow

Antinori nel Chianti Classico is nothing if not monumental: a striking contemporary sculptural edifice that epitomizes the winery's impact on Italy's history and culture. Antinori is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) producers of wine, and one of the most historic: the label defined, and then redefined, Chianti Classico, upgrading it from a table wine to a prestige one. The architecture, designed by Marco Casamonti, best exemplifies this grandeur. Antinori plays the classics; expect plenty of silky Chianti Classico.

Altesino Arrow

Altesino is a postcard-perfect Italian country villa off a charming dirt road in the Montalcino hills. The late-14th-century Palazzo Altesino sets the stage for an elegant wine. Visits are private; often it's only you, your group, and the winemaker. The focus is Altesino's award-winning wines, from Brunello di Montalcino DOCG to Rosso di Montalcino, and you can also a enjoy a decent snacks pairing. The beautiful location promises to win everyone over, no matter how much they know about wine.

Italy Florence Tours Divine Tours

DiVine Tours Arrow

DiVine Tours offers a series of bespoke wine tours around Tuscany and other select parts of Italy—Umbria, Sicily, Puglia, and Piedmont, among others—all of which are highly personalized and professional. Miriam, DiVine's owner and founder, is a consummate professional who hires top-notch guides and experts. Her tours are very organized and very easy to understand, and you can customize pretty much everything. These tours are excellent for those interested in attaining robust knowledge of area wineries and their history, but they're not for people who don't like wine.

Italy Florence Winery Volpaia

Volpaia Arrow

A walled hamlet on a Chianti hill, Volpaia is the quintessential Tuscan wine fantasy visit. The town itself is charming and the castle drips with Florentine history, having served as a key defensive outpost for the Florentine Republic during its heyday. Volpaia wines are exceptional Chianti Classicos, and that's what you'll learn about on a private tour. The staff is very personable and friendly—but most importantly, they know and love Volpaia, and that enthusiasm is infectious.

Podere le Ripi Winery overhead Val d'Orcia

Podere Le Ripi Arrow

A beautiful Tuscan drive through winding rustic roads ends at Podere le Ripi, a photogenic winery with a modern reception and tasting area. Winemaker Francesco Illy (of the Illy coffee family) is known industry-wide as an innovator; his wines are biodynamic—and he himself is dynamic, too. After a tasting and snack, you'll leave with one key takeaway: that you can at once embrace and buck tradition while still creating great wine.

Italy Florence Winery Fèlsina

Fèlsina Arrow

Felsina's picture-perfect stone entrance comes into view after you've slowly meandered around the hills and valleys of Chianti—and what a sight it is. Here, the mentality is purist; everything you eat comes from the surrounding land. The olive oil is from single cultivars, and the oil-making process strictly adheres to Veronelli's rules of pressing. You can have a simple Chianti wine tasting, a wine tasting with a light lunch, or a wine and olive oil tasting with lunch alongside other wine lovers, culinary travelers, and anyone interested in the hows and whys of wine- and olive-making.

I love that the wine tasting here is led by a professional oenologist.  A sip of wine will be accompanied by a selection of typical Tuscan bites.

After the tasting, stay for Tuscan dinner served on the terrace where you can enjoy the famous Florentine steak or the delicious wood-oven pizza.

The villa was recently refurbished and also offers accommodation and serves as a wedding venue.

Discover the unique Florentine wines by booking a tasting on the  website .  The winery is open for tastings in the mornings from Monday through Saturday.

Wine Tasting Tours from Florence Travel Guide

If you’re planning a vacation to Florence, Italy you should know what airport you’ll be flying into, the best accommodations available, what restaurants to stop by, and more. In this travel guide, we give you all the information you’ll need to get started planning your vacation. Have you been to Florence and want to suggest a tourist stop or restaurant? Comment below!

Airports & Entry

Planning tips, restaurants & eating out, nightlife & entertainment, getting around, accommodations, attractions, enjoying the wine that makes florence famous.

There is a small airport in Florence, the Florence Peretola. It was previously known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport. However, you will most likely fly into the Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa. This is a much larger airport so long-distance, foreign flights are most likely to land here.

Your passport will need to be valid for at least six months past your intended date of departure. If you’re planning on an extended stay, you can stay in Italy for up to 90 days without the need for a visa, so long as your passport is valid.

Visiting Florence can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, it’s important to plan and prepare for your trip properly. Here, we have our top 5 tips for those planning a trip to Florence, Italy. Have you visited and have a tip of your own? Leave it in the comments down below!

Tip #1: Don’t be Afraid to Spit

When wine tasting in Italy, it is common for the taster to swish the wine around in their mouth to get the full profile of flavors, and then spit the wine out. This is so that you can taste many more wines without becoming intoxicated. It may feel a bit uncomfortable to spit out your drink in public, but it’s actually the cultural norm for this country.

Tip #2: Eat Light

You’ll find that even entrees featuring meat and pasta are smaller in portion size than what we see here in the US. Most of the time, meals consist of lighter fare including crostini, cured meat, and cheeses. Do not be surprised at the smaller portions of heavy meals and the abundance of lighter snacks.

Tip #3: Explore Florence on Foot

Not only is walking the preferred method of getting around in Florence, but it is also the easiest. While you may be walking with many other tourists, walking allows you to see more of the city. It may even take longer to wait for a taxi or bus than it would to walk to your destination. You will also most likely be walking at many of the attractions. Be sure to bring a pair or two of comfortable walking shoes.

Tip #4: Prioritize Your List

It would take months, if not years, to visit and explore every museum, gallery, eatery, and other important location within the city of Florence. Be sure to prioritize the list of places you’d like to see based on the length of time you’re spending here. Many of the attractions have estimated wait times based on the time of year and time of day you are visiting. This makes it easier to plan out your sightseeing.

Tip #5: Take Those 500 Steps

The Cathedral in Florence, called the Duomo, is the 4 th -largest cathedral in the world. It took nearly 2 centuries to complete. Be sure to save at least one day to explore it. If you’d like to reach the highest point in Florence by hiking the 463 steps to the cathedral’s cupola, you’ll need to make a reservation. However, you won’t be disappointed.

Tip #6: Explore The Surrounding Cities

Venice is only a few hours northeast of Florence. This famous beautiful city is a must see! You must see the incomparable St Marks Basilica and take a gondola ride though its canals. There is so much to see and do there it needs to be on your list of places to see.

It seems even the food vendors at every corner and in front of every attraction have some of the best food available. These vendors also make it very quick to grab a bite to eat while on your way from one destination to another.

If you’re looking for some of the best gelato in Florence, you want to check out Carapina. The flavors of gelato available will change based on the season, and the number of choices is limited on purpose, but if you’ve ever thought of trying gelato with either olive oil or parmesan, this is the place.

The Borgo san Jacopo is one of the most exclusive restaurants in Florence. There are just four tables on a small terrace, but this terrace offers breathtaking views of the Ponte Vecchio. The star chef, Peter Brunel, offers mouthwatering entrées. Save room for the purple potato sorbet with various toppings, including gold leaf, for dessert.

A popular stop for many tourists is La Menagere. La Menagere is home to both a café and cocktail bar, but you’ll also find beautiful bouquets in the flower shop as well as quality Italian homeware in the store. Dinner entrées can include everything from spaghetti with squid to beef with pears.

While it’s common to stop for a cocktail in the evening before turning in, nightlife in Florence is relatively calm. In fact, one of their most popular bars offers cappuccino and pastries in the morning, a light lunch in the afternoon, and a buffet dinner as well as cocktails in the evening. This bar, known as Caffe degli Artigiani, is in the center of the artisan district.

The La Casa del Vino is a popular wine bar near the center of town. If you’re looking to try some of the top wines in the area of Tuscany or even find some less common wines from all over the country, you’ll want to stop by. To go with the extensive wine list, there is a menu of light snacks that includes meats, cheeses, crostini, and salads.

Getting around by car in the city of Florence is nearly impossible. Much of the city is off-limits to drivers. Of those streets that are drivable, many are narrow and might even be one-way. If traveling by car is necessary, you’ll want to take a taxi. However, taxis are quite expensive.

The best way to get around Florence is on foot. In fact, it’s possible to walk from one side of the city to the other in less than an hour. If your feet are getting tired or you have a longer distance to travel, a bus system is available. You can find tickets at local convenience stores.

If the city of Florence had a theme, it would be luxury. From the historical sites to the most modern hotels, from street food vendors to well-known eateries, Florence is the epitome of luxury.

If you’d like to experience that firsthand, be sure to research your accommodations. If you’re familiar with the Four Seasons brand, you may know what to expect from the Four Seasons Florence.

However, Florence is home to some very unique accommodations as well. The Palazzo Vecchietti features just 12 bedrooms and suites along with two apartments. Each is named after famous Italian artists.

This 16 th -century Palazzo has been turned into a luxury bed-and-breakfast of sorts, with meals being served in a common area on the top floor. A luxury Florence hotel with more of a retro feel is the Continentale.

You may want to avoid July and August when planning a trip to Florence. January is usually the coldest month with temperatures in the low 40s, Fahrenheit. While the average temperature in July is in the mid-70s Fahrenheit, the humidity can make it feel unbearably warm. The best times to travel to Florence are in the spring and fall.

You’ll find the attractions in Florence mostly based on the history and food of the region. While the Statue of David is arguably one of the most popular sights to see in Florence, getting in to see Michelangelo’s famous artwork can take some time. Lines are usually very long, but it’s worth it.

You may also want to stop at Piazzale Michelangiolo , a terrace overlooking the city. The skyline of Florence seen from this terrace is the same often seen on postcards. Late afternoon or early evening are ideal times to visit as the crowds have died down.

There is no shortage of museums to visit while in Florence. Gucci Museo, or the Gucci Museum, is quite fun and a bit different than most other museums in the area. An archeological museum, the Museo Archeologico, features much of the regional history prior to the Medicis.

The Galleria dell’ Accademia is home to the Statue of David and other popular exhibits such as several Stradivarius violins and famous paintings. Be sure to see the Uffuzi Gallery as well to see the Renaissance period masterpieces. Taking a day trip into Tuscany and seeing all the hill top towns should be high on your list.

While one of the most popular tourist activities in Florence is wine tasting, be sure not to miss out on the beauty and history of the city itself. Florence may be a small city compared to some, but the experiences had during even a short vacation here will last a lifetime.

Looking for the best wineries near florence want to go wine tasting near the city this is your complete guide to the best local florentine wineries.

Headshot of Nathan Heinrich

If you find yourself in Florence wanting to do some wine tasting but don’t feel like spending half the day in a car driving to Lucca or Sienna – I have the perfect solution for you.

As an American who moved to Italy , and has spent a lot of time in the beautiful city of Florence, I’ve found myself in the same situation.

My Italian friend, language coach, and local wine expert Vera Sarzano , who lives in Tuscany, let me in on a little secret.

Busloads of tourists are hauled to Montepulciano and Pisa every day to visit the big glittering commercial wineries that are specifically designed for tourists.

But they completely ignore some of the best local wineries that are just a stone’s throw from downtown Florence.

This collection of boutique and family-owned vineyards are some of the best Province of Florence Wineries.

Closest Wineries To Florence

Tuscany has 10 individual provinces.   The most famous of these is Florence (Firenze).

There are 44 municipal communities (commune) in the Province of Florence, Italy.

Of these 44 municipalities, we will focus on 10 that have some of the most wonderful hidden-gem wineries.

These wineries are much closer to the city of Florence than many of the other more well-known Tuscan and Chianti Classico wine areas.

Because these wineries are so much closer to the city of Florence, it makes them a perfect day trip from the city.

This is a hand-picked list of 21 of the best wineries in the province of Florence.

The Most Complete List Of Florentine Wineries

As of the writing of this article, this is the most comprehensive list of wineries near Florence.

My desire is to provide you with all the information you need to jump in your car and explore these wonderful local wineries without needing to hire a tour guide.

Buon viaggio!

The first township or “commune” we will explore is Scandicci.

Located on the southwest corner of Florence, this, mostly rural, area has some of the best wines in the Florence area.   These are two of my favorite winery visits in the Scandicci commune.

Podere Casaccia

When Roberto Moretti bought this 30+ acre farm in 1999, he had not planned to become a winemaker.

But over the years, his love and passion for the land led him to produce the natural wine that he is known for today.

When his wife Lucia came into his life, the dream of making environmentally friendly wine on a “biodynamic farm” came to life, and now the two produce some of the most exceptional wine in the area.

The image they use on their wine labels is from an ancient iron stamp that was unearthed during the renovation of the wine cellars.

The inscription in Latin on the “ex libris” stamp is “Sine Felle” which means “without bitterness” a motto that is well-suited for the softness and non-aggressiveness that their wine is known for.

I highly recommend visiting Roberto and Lucia Moretti’s winery just outside of Florence – tell them Nathan sent you.

In the rolling hills of Scandicci is another producer of great wine, Uggiano Winery.   This relatively new winery, founded in the 1970s, is owned by three local investors and operated by an energetic team of young wine producers committed to achieving the highest quality in their wine production.

The world-class wines from Uggiano make it well worth the short drive from the heart of Florence.

The village of Empoli is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of Florence.

Although just a short drive from the city, this hamlet, surrounded by hilly terrain with beautiful vineyards and ancient olive trees, has a long history of both wine and olive oil production.

The local cuisine and fine wines from Empoli make this a perfect place to go wine tasting and indulge in a Tuscan lunch or dinner.

wine tour near florence

Azienda Agricola Montaioncino

One of my favorite local wineries in Empoli is Azienda Agricola Montaioncino.   Not only does this winery produce great wine, but it also makes some of the most incredible extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany.

There are countless luxury hotels and resorts in the area but very few wineries allow you to camp on their grounds.

With both tent camping sites and RV parking available, this location offers a very special way to experience the heart of Tuscany without all the fuss and high costs of 5-star hotels.

Fattoria di Piazzano

In 1948, Otello Bettarini a successful manufacturer from the city of Prato fell in love with this location on the hills south of Empoli.

75 years later, Fattoria di Piazzano is still a family-run winery.

Riccardo, nephew of founder Otello, after running the winery for decades turned it over to his children Rolando and Ilaria.

Along with Michela, Rolando’s wife, the family still operates this elegant wine estate with integrity and high standards honoring the rich history of the land.

The fabulous wines produced at Fattoria di Piazzano are farmed using only energy produced from renewable resources.

Add this “good energy” and family-friendly winery to the top of your list, you’ll be happy you did.

Just a hop skip and a jump from Florence’s “Centro Storico”, where Michelangelo’s “David” is displayed, lies the quiet community of Casignano.

This is one of the most conveniently located areas to visit wineries in the Province of Florence.

La Fattoria Bellavista di Casignano

Just a short distance from Florence atop hills dotted with cypress and olive trees is a family-owned winery that you must visit.

Since 1960, the Bellorini family has owned this olive and wine estate.

Today three granddaughters of the original owner now own and operate the estate.

Besides the many high-quality wines the family produces, they are perhaps best known for their golden Vin Santo wine.

This complex wine requires the grapes to age off the vine for several weeks before being transformed into a wine that is considered a fine dessert wine.

This is one of the best wine tours you will treat yourself to in Chianti, which is one of the most famous wine regions in the world.

I highly recommend visiting the vineyards and olive groves of La Fattoria Bellavista di Casignano.

Stop by their charming wine shop after your wine-tasting tour and buy some of the best wine available in the Chianti wine region.

Liliana and Daniel Schaetti decided to devote themselves to Tuscan winemaking after years in the restaurant and industrial industries.

In 2006 they purchased their historic farm in Castelfiorentino and began planting their first vineyards.

Besides Sangiovese grapes, they also grow Pugnitello, Foglia Tonda, and Merlot varieties.

Their elegant tasting room is the perfect place to taste their uniquely different wines which are some of the best in the entire region.

The Schaetti family has established a solid brand and reputation for excellence.

When exploring local Florence wineries, be sure to visit Davinum – one of the best wineries in the Chianti wine region of Tuscany.

While you’re there, be sure to tell Matteo “Ciao” – he’s a prince!

If you’re looking for a fabulous place to taste organic wine and eat traditional dishes from Tuscany while looking over vineyards planted with the historic Sangiovese vine varietal – this is the spot for you.

Skip the Tuscan wine tours and take yourself to this wonderful location that produces traditional Tuscan red wines and white wine varietals that will make you never want to drink anything but organic wine ever again.

The olive oil from A Solatio is some of the best you will taste in Tuscany – don’t leave without stocking up.

I personally can’t wait to go back for dinner.

The homemade food, prepared lovingly by owners Donella and Raffaello, is out of this world.

The online reviews found on Google and Trip Advisor will tell you everything you need to know.

This is the best-kept secret just a short drive from Florence and the best way to spend a day in the Tuscan countryside.

Villa il Pozzo

Since the 1970s, Villa il Pozzo has been exporting Chiani and other red wines from Tuscany to the United States.   Founded by Nello Gori, the Gori Family has been making wine in the heart of Tuscany for more than 50 years.

The 18th-century structures, exceptional wine, and stunning views are just a few reasons to add a guided tour and wine tasting at this location to your list of wineries to visit near Florence.

I highly recommend the Villa Il Pozzo Chianti DOCG, Monticello Chianti DOCG, and N7 Merlot Cru while visiting Villa il Pozzo.

Famous artist, inventor, and original “Renaissance Man” Leonardo di Vinci is from this humble commune – specifically in the tiny hamlet of Anchiano.

It’s ironic that Leonardo, who was born without a surname to unwed parents, was only known by the community where he was born – “di Vinci”.

However, now this same community’s only claim to fame is that it is the birthplace of that humble child who became one of the world’s most iconic characters.

La Doccia di Vinci

Marco and Sara Viviani are the brother and sister team that owns and operates the winery and olive groves that their grandfather established decades before they were even born.

When their grandfather became too old to work in the vineyards and their mother was too overwhelmed to tend the farm alone, Marco and his sister Sara knew they couldn’t let their heritage be sold or fall into the management of non-family commercial farmers.

Today La Doccia di Vinci is stronger than ever.

This dynamic sibling team has successfully brought their family’s winery and olive oil production into the 21st century.

Their award-winning wines are worth tasting and buying, by the case, you won’t be able to get enough of their superb vintages.

My personal favorite wines made by Marco and Sara are as follows: Albagia their “Orange Wine”, Caesar the Sangiovese wine dedicated to their grandfather “Cesare”, their wonderful DOCG Chianti, and their exceptional Vin Santo “Holy wine” – like me, you will become a lifelong fan!

Be sure to tell them “Ciao” from me when you visit!

A dynamic team of 8 young men and women manage the winery and produce beautiful wines on a “human scale” pouring their love and passion for winemaking into each bottle.

This is one of the best vineyards on our list.

Visit them once and you will find yourself coming back for years to come.

5 Vineyards Near Florence & How to Get There

You might have heard the one thing you must do while visiting Florence is a little wine tasting . And what could be better than enjoying wine right at the source?

Rolling hills with vineyards at sunset

You don’t have to go far to find beautiful vineyards near Florence, and most of these family-run wineries are more than happy to welcome visitors for tastings and tours. Just make sure to call ahead and reserve your spot as they are often run by small teams and can get very busy.

Visiting the vineyard gives you a whole new experience where you can learn from the winemakers themselves and find out everything that goes into your glass. Take a walk through the vines for dreamy views, sip on different vintages of Chianti or trebbiano toscano , and let yourself be guided by the in-house wine experts to discover the story of every bottle.

Let’s get to it—here are a few of the best vineyards near Florence!

Our picks for the best vineyards near Florence

Poggiopiano  .

This family-run vineyard near Florence produces traditional organic wines, plus something a little special—their own orange wine. Oh, and you won’t want to miss a taste of their very own extra-virgin olive oil .

Tastings are led by the latest generation of the family in their garden overlooking the vines and olive groves. These tastings include a sip of their own products paired perfectly with other local flavors.

When the weather is warm, you can opt for a different style tasting—a picnic aperitivo to enjoy in the vineyard, with a bottle of their wine and a few bites from a local bistro.

Not only a day trip , Poggiopiano also acts as an agritourism with rooms to host guests, a pool, and a house breakfast.

How to get there : This little winery is so easy to get from the cent er of Florence. Just take the 14A bus going towards Il Girone and enjoy a little walk. After you hop off at Girone, follow Via dei Bassi for about 700 meters through olive groves, enjoying a beautiful valley view.

If you have any trouble with the walk or it is late, give Poggiopiano a call and they can even give you a ride! If you happen to have a car, this trip will be even quicker.

A picnic with wine cask, wine, nibbles, and a cat looking out over a Tuscan vineyard

Villa Medicea di Lilliano

Step back in time to sip a little Chianti in this 11 th -century Medici villa. This charming wine estate is just 15 minutes outside Florence’s city center, making it a great choice for a little tasting experience.

This spot is located in the nearby Colli Fiorentini, one of the main sub-regions of Chianti. The Malenchini family, owners of Villa Medicea di Lilliano , offer tastings of organic Chianti wines and their own olive oil.

But that isn’t all you’ll get with a day in the vineyard—Villa Medicea also offers lunch with wine pairings, tours of the private grounds and even cooking classes! You’ll be able to choose the perfect experience for you and book it all online directly.

If you are looking for something extra special try a glass of their Tuscan Bruzzico , a delicious blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon.

How to get there : Having a car makes reaching the Villa easier, but you can also take public transportation part of the way then grab a cab. Take the 23 bus from Serristori Demidoff to the Danimarca stop , and from there you can grab a local taxi which will be just a 13-minute drive.

Castello del Trebbio

Slow tourism at its finest in the Tuscan hillside, Castello del Trebbio offers wine tastings and seasonal experiences such as olive harvesting, hikes, and much more.

These vineyards near Florence surround the beautiful 12 th -century castle of the Pazzi family. The Pazzis were wealthy bankers that were behind Florence’s famous “Pazzi Conspiracy” : an elaborate plan to remove the competing Medici family from power.

Today the estate is run by the Baj Macario family. A family passionate about great wine and ethical agriculture. They’ve brought the practice of biointegrale to their vineyards, implementing both organic and biodynamic philosophies.

Here at the castle, you will taste the classic wines of Chianti but with a unique twist. The winemakers of del Trebbio have chosen to integrate the use of amphora into their ageing. This gives the wines a rich flavor and has them stand out amongst other regional Tuscan wines .

Tastings and tours require a minimum attendance of two people, so grab a buddy and give them a call to book your spot in advance.

How to get there: Fairly near to Florence, it takes about an hour to get to Castello del Trebbio, but your experience will be worth the trip! To get there by public transport, take the regional train from Firenze Santa Maria to Sieci, then take the 331 B bus from the piazza to Trebbio_V, which stops right in front of the castle.

Poggio La Noce

A small estate just outside of Florence in nearby Fiesole, Poggio La Noce is an adorable winery run by Claire and Enzo, an Italian-American couple with a true passion for wine. Their organic vineyards are filled with sangiovese, canaiolo, and colorino vines, but that’s not all you will get to taste here.

The couple makes a rosé pet-nat that is not to be missed, plus a delicious white wine. As an ode to Enzo’s home region, the couple produces a 100 percent falanghina from their vines located much further south, just outside of Naples in Campania. This is a crisp white wine that offers a unique tasting experience in the heart of Tuscany.

The estate is small and intimate and provides private tastings by appointment only, so be sure to call ahead.

How to get there : Just 15 minutes by car from the city center, you can reach Poggio La Noce also by bus and cab. From Florence, take Bus 7 from Stazione Nazionale (in front of Santa Maria Novella Station) and it will drop you off right in Piazza Mino in Fiesole. From here, you can make your way to Poggio La Noce by grabbing a cab.

Wine tasting space with a bar and table decorated in neutral tones

Verrazzano

Verrazzano is a beautiful castle with 250 hectares of surrounding vineyards located between Florence and Greve in Chianti.

Named for the navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano, who explored and mapped the bay of New York and the east coast of the USA, this castle has quite the story to share.

The property has been producing wine for over 1,000 years. Today they bottle Chianti Classico wines with a base of sangiovese, as well as merlot, cabernet sauvignon, traminer, and malvasia. You can have a taste of their full selection, or the highlights of Chianti.

They also offer lunches with paired wines, vineyard tours and even have an in-house hosteria. All experiences can be easily booked on their website .

How to get there : These gorgeous vineyards near Florence are located along the route to Greve in Chianti. To get there, grab one of the SITA buses from Piazza della Stazione headed to “Greve in Chianti” and hop off at Greti. This drops you off in front of the wine shop, and from there you can take a walk over to the castle and winery.

My wife and I took Angie’s Castle & Wine tour in late May. We had a fun, small group with Barbara as our guide. Barbara was very genuine and truly expressed an interest in wanting all of us to enjoy our day, as well as our time in Tuscany Would I recommend the tour? Yes, without a doubt. If you are a red wine drinker, these are smaller producers that you are most likely not able to purchase in the U.S. They make excellent wines, so treat yourself and send some home Our wines arrived in four weeks. Grazie Mille Angie and Barbara for a terrific day!

We had an excellent wine and castle tour day. Federico was an exceptional guide and we had a wonderful time touring and tasting wine and olive oil. We would like to also mention the fantastic lunch we had it was memorable. We would highly recommend this tour.

An amazing day touring the Tuscany wine region! I would especially like to thank Francesca for making my 50th birthday a memory I will treasure forever! Her knowledge of wines, the countryside, olive oil, etc. was extraordinary! The wineries and the owners (Stephania and Marco) were excellent hosts and provided us with samples of the most amazing wines and olive oils. I would highly recommend your company to anyone visiting the Tuscany region! Again, thanks!!!

I went on a wine tasting tour with Angie a few years ago and because of the great experience I booked again for May 2013. Angie’s tour was already fully booked so we were in Olivia’s group, another awesome day! The whole region is beautiful and there are plenty of tour operators but for me Angie’s personal service and small groups make her the go-to company for your Tuscan wine tasting tour. A bonus with the smaller groups is that Angie takes you to small and medium sized wineries, not the giant mass production places, so you really get face to face time with the owner/winemakers.

Wine Tours & Day Trips in Florence & Tuscany – My Recommendations • Best Tour from Florence: Tuscany Wine Tasting • Best Tour from Siena: Chianti and San Gimignano • Best Tour from Rome: Tuscany Taster Tour • Best Wine & Food Tour: Tuscany Wine & Food • Best Private Tour: Chianti Wine Tour Best Private Wine Tour in Tuscany: The Chianti Wine Tour: Full-Day from Florence with Tastings Tip: Book early! Wine tours from Florence are very popular and sell out months in advance. I’ve listed more good ones below in case other recommendations are fully booked. Florence tours are typically very high quality and great value for what you get. Good Alternatives if Fully Booked Small Group Wine Tasting Tour to Tuscany (4.5 hours) From Florence: Tuscany Wine & Food Tour with Guide (8 hours) Full-Day Countryside Tour with Lunch (9 hours) – Siena, Wine Estate, San Gimignano The Best Wine Tours from Florence 1. Tuscany Wine Tasting Full-Day Trip This budget-priced wine tour is designed for younger travelers, aged 18 to 35. (They aren’t strict about the max age and will often say 41, 45, or 51 when asked about an upper limit – if you have a fun attitude you’ll be fine.) Leaving from Florence, the tour travels to San Gimignano, home of Vernaccia, Tuscany’s best white wine variety. The tour covers a little bit of the winemaking process but focuses more on tasting (read: drinking). Expect lots of laughs, gorgeous scenery, and big pours of several varieties of Vernaccia, rosés, Chiantis, and Super Tuscans, but remember you don’t have to finish every glass. After visiting two vineyards, the tour stops inside medieval San Gimignano for some free time to explore. An excellent all-ages alternative is the Small Group Wine Tasting Tour to Tuscany . 2. Grape Tours: Super Chianti This full-day, small-group excursion covers all the best in Tuscany, including informative guided tours of two vineyards and wineries, lunch at Dario Cecchini’s famous butcher shop in Panzano, and a visit to the quaint village Greve. Guided by an expert sommelier, guests will get an in-depth look into the full process of winemaking from grape to glass. Special attention is given during the tastings to show what gives Tuscan wines their distinctive characteristics. Learn how to identify specific features of wine, especially Chianti, Chianti Classico, and Super Tuscan, how to choose a great bottle, and how to pair wine and foods—all while surrounded by miles of luscious grapevines and olive groves. Also recommended: Chianti Private Wine Tour: Full-Day from Florence with Tastings 3. Tuscany Vespa Tour Flat out fun and exhilarating, this scooter tour visits a 12th-century castle for a tour of their vineyard and winery, followed by a wine and olive oil tasting, and tower climb for panoramic views of the Chianti wine country. Guests drive their scooters through winding hills, past villas, vineyards, and ancient olive groves. The drive is broken into two portions with an authentic Tuscan lunch (wine included) served in a rustic bistro overlooking a valley. Guides are very helpful and especially accommodating for those who haven’t driven a scooter before. All tours begin with a lesson in a quiet parking, and the drive itself is along low-traffic roads with slow speed limits. Also recommended: From Florence: Tuscan Countryside Tour on a Vintage Vespa 4. Walkabout Florence: Chianti Wine & Food Safari This full-day, four-wheel-drive tour explores some of the less accessible portions of the Chianti Classico region and focuses especially on Tuscan food traditions, olive oils, and wine pairings. Visit two wineries, one at an aristocratic villa and the other an award-winning vineyard, for an exclusive look at their winemaking process and olive oil mills. Enjoy a hearty, rustic lunch with jaw-dropping views at a popular, local restaurant. The tour finishes in Greve with a visit to the historic butcher shop (since 1729, one of the best-known in Italy for its salumi and its strange selection of gelatos topped with meats) and free time to wander the village, check out its church, wine museum, or cozy up to an espresso bar. 5. Under the Tuscan Sun: Chianti Shared Wine Tour Half Day The best half-day wine tour out of Florence. This small-group tour travels to two vineyards in the Chianti Classico region, offering a behind-the-scenes look into the full winemaking process from harvesting to fermenting to bottling. Both wineries offer tastings of three or so varieties from different vintages, mostly Chiantis with one or two Super Tuscans mixed in. Rates for morning or afternoon tours include a meal, as well as a stop at Piazzale Michelangelo for a panoramic view of Florence. This half-day tour is ideal for travelers who have a limited amount of time in the city. Book the afternoon tour (start times are flexible), so that you have all morning to take in the city sights, before heading to the countryside for rich wines and a glorious Tuscan sunset. 6. Angie’s Personal Tour: Chianti & Super Tuscan Tour A full-day tour of boutique vineyards between Florence and Siena, highlighting the unique flavors of Chianti and Super Tuscan wines, alongside other local varieties of white and rosé. Tours can be scheduled for three wineries plus lunch or four wineries without lunch (don’t worry; there will be plenty of snacks) The first two wineries visited include tasting and tours of their vineyards and cellars, where the winemaking process is explained. The third stop focuses less on making wine and more on tasting and pairing. For tours with four stops, the final winery boasts a 12th-century cellar and a 14th-century olive grove.

5* experience. One of the best Vespa and wine tours I ever had! We had a small group and we had so much fun! Fun and knowledgeable hosts. Great tour through the wine cellar. The Chianti region was a great area to drive around on a Vespa! Lovely lunch.

Family Owned Winery

The winery from which we run the tour was built in the 12th century and is owned by a local Florentine family. Today, we are fortunate enough that the current owners open up their doors and allow us to tour their home. Francesco and his family make everyone feel at home once they welcome you into their sprawling property, which includes over 350 hectares of vineyards and olive trees. This fairytale winery will not disappoint!

No wine tasting is complete without FOOD

After the tasting, you will be treated to a generous traditional Tuscan lunch at the winery. Lunch includes a selection of Tuscan ham, salami and cheese, salad, and pasta, dessert and coffee.

You will also be invited to try the family homemade olive oil and honey or jam. And of course, no Italian lunch is complete without wine! Although the tasting portion of the day will have been complete. You are welcome to enjoy more wine with lunch.

Most were red wine (which I’m not a fan of, but actually very much enjoyed on this trip) but there were also a few white wines. Lunch was awesome. Personally, the trip was little long, so I would recommend doing the shorter trip (everyone started getting car sick to some degree with all of the hills). Cheeses and breads with wonderful vinegars and oils + 4 wines (just the bottom of the glass). Winery 2. Cheeses, cold cuts and sausages, and bread + 5 wines (just the bottom of the glass). Possibility to buy wines, oils and vinegars on the tour. I thought the amount of wine was good, enough to make me neither sober nor drunk. So, your day will start with a lovely tour of Pisa. You’ll see the cathedral, the cemetery, the baptistery, and – DUH – the leaning tower before checking out a classic winery near San Gimignano.

“Barbara and Armando executed their roles admirably, ensuring seamless coordination throughout the tour. Navigating three major cities and historic sites was a pleasure, thanks to their competence. Barbara, our patient tour guide, adeptly managed the challenges posed by tardy and irresponsible attendees, displaying a commendable level of professionalism. Despite a few hiccups caused by irresponsible passengers, all individuals eventually boarded, and the return journey transpired without incident. The experience, albeit dramatic at times, was salvaged by Barbara’s unwavering professionalism. The driver’s exceptional skills contributed to a smooth and enjoyable ride. On the downside, the light lunch provided fell short of expectations. Regrettably, it resembled more of a simple snack with a sample wine tasting, and did not meet our culinary preferences. Nevertheless, the overall value derived from the expenditure was undeniably worthwhile.” Sam ( read more reviews now )

Afterward, stop to admire some panoramic views of Chianti before heading to Siena. Here, your guide will introduce you to Piazza del Campo and the cathedral.

You’ll then have free time to eat some panforte and shop for souvenirs before returning to Florence as the sun sets in the background.

So, all in all, this is one of the best Tuscan wine tours from Florence if you don’t feel like drinking wine all day but still want to see what this incredible region has to offer.

You’ll then head to Siena where you’ll enjoy a guided tour of this medieval city before taking some free time to walk around.

In total, you’ll visit for around 90 minutes to admire the stunning Gothic and Romanesque architecture of the area (specifically the main cathedral) before grabbing lunch in the Tuscan Hills.

“This was the best thing I have done the whole time in Italy! The absolute best thing to do when I’m Florence, our guide Noemi was amazing and so great. The lunch at the winery in Chianti was delicious and going up Pisa was also worth the stairs. Definitely recommend this trip, it was raining all day and we still had a really great time. Would do it again in a heartbeat!!” Marley ( read more reviews now )

This lunch is optional but HIGHLY recommended since you’ll eat a homemade, organic meal paired with four regional wines – all while admiring sweeping views of the area.

Afterward, continue to San Gimignano. It’s a fabulous, UNESCO World Heritage site where you can take in epic panoramas and see tower homes from the Middle Ages.

Explore the town for an hour and a half before ending your day in Pisa. You’ll see the Leaning Tower and will walk through the Piazza dei Miracoli before making your way back to Florence.

Just choose between a small group or a private tour and let the fun begin during one of the best Tuscany wine tours from Florence.

Umbria: A wine lover’s guide

  • Magazine: April 2024 Issue

Right in the centre of the country, just southeast of Tuscany and north of Rome, Umbria epitomises the best of Italy, its green hills a patchwork of olive trees, vines, fields and woodlands peppered with picturesque stone villages and an alluring array of cities of art. The wine scene is exciting, varied and fast-evolving, and biodiversity is deep-rooted: many wineries also produce olive oil and other crops. The region’s top wines continue to be from the centre and west, although other areas are emerging thanks to producers such as Leonardo Bussoletti , who is promoting wines from the Ciliegiolo variety around Narni, in southern Umbria.

In the west, Orvieto has been a centre of winemaking excellence since ancient Etruscan times (8th to 1st centuries BCE), later consolidated by Renaissance popes. Today’s producers are demonstrating the impressive longevity of Orvieto’s white blends, many of which benefit from time in naturally cool Etruscan caves, which act as ideal ageing cellars. And in central Umbria, Montefalco and Spoleto DOC areas overlap in a basin surrounded by hills. Here, Trebbiano Spoletino (thought not to be related to other grapes with the ‘Trebbiano’ name) is surging in popularity. In addition to extraordinary versatility for different styles, including spumante, such as the bitey brut nature made by historic winery Antonelli , the variety is naturally disease-resistant. Le Thadee makes a wine (named +128+) from its collection of 60-70 pre-phylloxera Trebbiano Spoletino vines (more than 100 years old), which are trained on field maples, climbing to heights of more than 3m; and they have propagated more. The winery’s attractive villa, built in the Italian ‘Liberty’ style of the early 20th century, will open for tastings from spring-summer 2024.

Montefalco’s famously tannic Sagrantino is increasingly found in refreshingly elegant, contemporary styles, such as the fine and fruity DWWA 2023 Gold award winner Vignalunga Montefalco Sagrantino, made by Moretti Omero from vines above 400m. A flurry of winemaking experiments among local producers has resulted in multi- pronged advances for new-generation Sagrantino: Le Thadee’s velvety version, for example, begins its fermentation in amphorae.

Italy’s red mainstay Sangiovese is central to Montefalco Rosso and Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, while at lake Trasimeno – in the north of the region near its capital, Perugia – Trasimeno Gamay ( Grenache , in its historically misnamed local guise) is gaining ever more international attention, including recognition at the Grenaches du Monde awards.

While Umbria is delightful year-round, most wine-themed events run from spring to autumn: Trasimeno Rosé Festival (late April 2024), Cantine Aperte winery open days (25-26 May) and Enologica Montefalco (20-22 September). Among the wineries with accommodation, Roccafiore  near Todi is centrally located and offers excellent wines, a restaurant and spa; the vineyard Wine Chalet is idyllic.

A visit to Palazzone provides an all-encompassing experience of the essence of Orvieto, with views over the city on its rocky perch just 5km away. Book a vertical tasting of four vintages of Campo del Guardiano Orvieto Classico Superiore and experience the exceptional ageing capacity of Orvieto’s whites (€120 per person including tour and lunch). Alternatively, opt for lunch with the winemaker, tasting from the barrel, truffle hunting, or a simple winery tour and tasting. Wines include a brut nature traditional-method spumante with local variety Verdello, and Musco – an old-style field blend of Procanico, Verdello and Malvasia fermented in chestnut barrels in an Etruscan cave. Winemaker Pietro Dubini’s father Giovanni is president of Umbria’s Movimento Turismo del Vino association, and hospitality is first class. Rooms at the locanda, a restored medieval pilgrims’ hostel, feature a stylish combination of historical elements and contemporary design.

The decision by Leon Zwecker’s parents to buy a tumbledown farmhouse in the Orvieto countryside inspired him to embark on international winemaking studies after leaving high school in Germany and, for the past 15 years, he’s been running Madonna del Latte . The estate’s 5ha of vineyards and hundreds of olive trees grow on volcanic soil around the beautifully restored farmhouse where Zwecker lives with his Lithuanian wife and young family. The winery is built into the hill behind, and below is a country- chic tasting room and naturally cool Etruscan cave, which makes a perfect barrel room.

Here, he makes superb wines largely with international varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Viognier, including an exquisite barrel-fermented version of the latter (a DWWA 2023 Silver award winner). As Zwecker points out: ‘We’re an international family – we make international wines.’ There are amazing views across to Orvieto from the terrace garden at the historic location of Cantine Neri , a medieval Templars’ residence. In 2006, Enrico Neri decided to start producing wine rather than just selling grapes, and he concentrates on traditional local varieties for his intense Orvieto Classico Superiore and other wines. Neri pioneered traditional-method Grechetto spumante, opting for the more aromatic variety known as Grechetto G5 (Grechetto Gentile) rather than the more structured, separate variety Grechetto G109 used in DOC Orvieto. Winery tours (from €28) take in the Etruscan caves, where wines are aged and old vintages stored, and options include blind or vertical tastings, blending experiences and pairings with estate-produced charcuterie.

Todi is home to the enticingly fragrant Grechetto Gentile, used for Iacopo Paolucci ’s first wine, Iacopone, dedicated to Jacopone da Todi, the town’s celebrated medieval friar- poet. A clear-sighted winemaker and self-starter, Paolucci began in 2016 with a degree in winemaking and experience with a big-name producer under his belt. He works 6ha of vines from a tiny, garage-style winery complete with bottling line and picturesque pergola for tastings, with a single assistant and two or three ginger cats. Paolucci hosts a village party each July nearby at Doglio, where time seems to have stood still and older-generation villagers have provided invaluable testimonies about the traditional grapes that were grown here. Paolucci has helped resuscitate the spicy red Grero and he’s introduced Verdello here, too (as distinct from ‘Verdelho’), with the first harvest due this year. He also makes pét-nat and passito versions of Grechetto Gentile.

When Peter Heilbron started producing wine in 2008, his sole aim was to make Sagrantino with a new elegance, drawing fresh finesse from a grape known for its challenging tannins. He acquired a scenic 30ha estate, Tenuta Bellafonte near Bevagna with olive trees, woodland and vines including 2ha of Sagrantino, and rebuilt the stone farmhouse (available for rent, with an indoor pool). Here Sagrantino vines face east, a break from the south-facing norm, meaning that tannins don’t ripen fully and are not all released from the grape skins during whole-berry fermentation, resulting in a vibrant, harmonious wine (Collenottolo). Heilbron’s first encounter with Trebbiano Spoletino was love at first sip; he now makes two remarkable versions, including the wood-fermented Arnèto, which means ‘reborn’ in the local dialect.

The world has Marco Caprai, son of the eponymous founder of Arnaldo Caprai , to thank for bringing dry Sagrantino – previously only known in a passito version – to wider attention. After taking the helm at the winery in 1986, Marco initiated the first of an ongoing series of research projects that included the introduction of wine consultant Michel Rolland’s vinification intégrale method, in which whole grapes are fermented in barriques with dry ice and the barrels are slowly rotated to break up the cap of grape skins, to produce a smooth, rich Sagrantino. Marco’s love for local history and traditions also led him to initiate the Strada del Sagrantino wine route. The winery is one of several that have adopted centenarian vines in central Montefalco, and it’s active in a number of cultural, social and educational initiatives. Walk-ins are welcome for simple tastings (book for tours, from €65 up to €200 per person) and the views from the vineyard terrace under an old oak tree are well worth the short stroll from the winery.

A force of nature and whirlwind of ideas, Giampaolo Tabarrini  first bottled his family’s wines in 1996 and, after juggling this for several years with his career in accountancy, he left the day job to channel his abundant energy into wine. Research he carried out with the University of Florence during the early 2000s has been instrumental in the resurgence of Trebbiano Spoletino, Umbria’s rising white star, and Tabarrini’s Adarmando shows the variety’s ageing potential. A new method for smoother Sagrantino is being developed at the winery, and although details are undisclosed, results are evident in Tabarrini’s fourth Sagrantino cru, Il Bisbetico Domato. The finishing touches are being added to a sleek new structure (book for guided cellar tours, from €25 or €20 if combined with a tasting) that includes a pop-in bar and roof terrace, with shop and event space to come, yet this remains firmly a family business: the team’s latest addition, Tabarrini’s son Filippo, is showing as much enthusiasm as his father.

Celebrations are in store during 2024 for Lungarotti , which first put Umbria on the wine map, as it marks the 60th anniversary of Vigna Monticchio Rubesco Riserva, a complex Sangiovese cru that deserves its place among Italy’s best. It’s also the 50th birthday of MUVIT , the Lungarotti Foundation’s magnificent wine museum, which has more than 3,000 wine-related items and artworks; a retrospective photo exhibition opens on 23 April – St George’s day, when Torgiano’s vineyards traditionally glow with celebratory bonfires. Tasty Umbrian food and estate wines are served at the museum’s Osteria (the €7 ticket price includes a glass of wine) and accommodation is available nearby. Other wines range from white blend Torre di Giano (Vermentino, Trebbiano and Grechetto offering an explosion of freshness) to Sagrantino from Lungarotti’s Montefalco estate. Sustainability is a byword and initiatives include regenerative agriculture practices.

Lake Trasimeno

Dynamic winemaker Nicola Chiucchiurlotto of Madrevite  took over the family estate in 2003 and, inspired by a trip to France, set about restoring the Trasimeno Gamay traditionally grown in the area. Thanks to clay-based soils and the vicinity of lake Trasimeno in one direction and lake Chiusi in the other, the vines flourish, producing velvety-smooth wines characterised by intense fruit and spice.

Chiucchiurlotto experiments with methods including partial whole-bunch fermentation for C’osa (DWWA 2023 Gold) and a variation on the Tuscan Governo double-fermentation technique, in which leftover skins from Madrevite’s first production run of rosé are added in with freshly harvested grapes to create the red Opra. The winery has a friendly, youthful vibe, especially during summer sunset picnic events (contact via website for details): this is reflected in wines such as Futura, a fresh pét-nat Trebbiano Spoletino.

Just 10km from Perugia, the Carini winery has a charming farmhouse style, with attractively converted stables where tastings of the wines and produce, including sheep’s cheeses and cured meats, are held (from €25 per person, book via website). Several walking routes cross the estate, which has woodland where pigs feed on acorns and chestnuts, about 10ha of olive trees for four single-cultivar oils, and 12ha under vine. Events include truffle hunts and cookery classes, but the wines are the main focus. While a new Riserva version of Tegolaro (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) is due in June 2024, winemaker Luca Partenza believes in the great potential of Trasimeno Gamay and has planted more for wines such as Oscano rosé and, due in 2025, a traditional-method rosé.

Taylor Swift's collab with Florence + The Machine 'Florida!!!' is 'one hell of a drug'

wine tour near florence

The only song in Taylor Swift's discography to include three exclamation points, "Florida!!!" is one of two collaborations on "The Tortured Poets Department.”

Swift teams up with Florence + The Machine for Track 8. Swift's dad, Scott, told fans in Florida, the song about the state was his favorite off the album. Cue the drums, bum-bum-bum-bum-bum.

“Florida!!!” is “one hell of a drug.”

The suspense-filled track builds in the verse until the chorus punches like an exclamation point (or three) bursting from the drums. The song mentions a timeshare in Destin, a northwest city located near Pensacola on the panhandle tip of the state. The area is known as a tourist destination because of Gulf of Mexico beaches, golf courses and resorts.

Although it seems like a retreat, the song wraps the sunny paradise in looming darkness tissue paper and stuffs it in a hurricane-sized bag. Welch sings about hoping a natural disaster will come and wash her away. “Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine. Well, me and my ghosts, we had a hell of a time.”

'Tortured Poets' release live updates: What to know as Taylor Swift's new album debuts

'The Tortured Poets Department'

If you didn't get the memo from the department's Chairman, "Tortured Poets" is Swift's 11th era album with 16 tracks and four bonus songs (four versions of the album each have a different bonus track).

Swift announced the project at the Grammys, when she won her 13th career Grammy for pop album of the year. Post Malone and Florence and The Machine  are two contributors on the pop album.

Its track titles are brutal. Fans speculated the album was about Swift’s six-year relationship with English actor Joe Alwyn and their breakup. Both stars kept the relationship out of the public eye. The back of the first version of the album reads, “I love you, it’s ruining me,” serving as a dagger-to-the-chest harbinger.

The album was released during Swift's two-month break from her massively popular and economically fruitful Eras Tour . "Tortured Poets" serves as an exclamation point to the behemoth success the billionaire has seen over the past year since the three-plus-hour show launched in Glendale, Arizona. Swift will return to the stage in Paris, France, on May 9. Fans anticipate that her newest era will be added to the show.
