We have just returned from five nights at hamiltons tented camp and to say this was just a tented camp is a massive understatement. the tents are luxury with everything you need, the food is five star and the service is the best, nothing is too much of a problem. the game drives, two a day were excellent, most times going longer than the three hours. we saw everything, including a black rhino. we returned everynight from the drive to a meal that whould grace a 5 star hotel, with service to match. hamiltons offer game drives, rooms,service and meals that are more than we expected. ten out of ten for everything..

Most amazing 3-night experience! We arrived last week for a 3-night stay at Hamilton’s tented camp and were absolutely amazed by the camp and the experience we had. (the pictures we saw online do not show how truly amazing it really is). Our tent had it all, a private pool, great shower and bathtub with view over the river. We even had our personal Hippo (we called him Henry) who was chilling in the river in front of our pool. The staff was very welcoming and were quick to know what we liked. We felt like we were surrounded by family. The food was delicious with plenty of options for each meal. Our driver (Salani) was equally amazing, he showed us everything and did not mind stopping for extra pictures. The breaks during the safari were also a highlight, from morning coffee with Amarula to the beautiful sunsets with gin & tonics.. we had it all! We were very sad to leave, especially after the staff performed a goodbye dance for us. If I could rate this place it would be 10 stars but sadly it only goes to 5. I would definitely recommend this camp to everyone and we will surely come back here.

Elevated, river-facing luxury tents

Hamiltons Tented Camp has six beautifully-appointed, air-conditioned tents among the Jackalberry trees. Each tent includes an en-suite bathroom, as well as an outdoor shower. Mosquito nets will ensure a peaceful sleep, while views of the N'waswitsontso River can be enjoyed from your private veranda and plunge pool. Raised timber walkways lead from the tents to the main lodge.

Main guest area

At the main lodge, guests can relax in the comfortable lounge area, which is stylishly decorated with 19th-century objets d'art. The viewing deck and swimming pool offer beautiful views over the dam and surrounding bush. Meal times present a combination of fine African and contemporary cuisine, supplemented by a world-class wine list. The African health spa offers a variety of relaxing treatments, and a butler service is available to ensure a comfortable, relaxing stay.

Game viewing experience

Open vehicle game drives in the Mluwati Concession are conducted by trained safari guides every morning and evening. The vast private concession area that Hamiltons shares with Imbali Safari Lodge and Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge is abundant in wildlife, including the Big 5 —lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Other species commonly seen in the area include giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala, sable antelope, kudu, hippo, cheetah, wild dogs, hyenas and more.

Days on safari

Wake up early for hot beverages and breakfast pastries before departing for the morning Big 5 game drive. Return to camp for a late breakfast and an afternoon of relaxation; enjoy a light lunch and High Tea at the main lodge and be ready to depart late afternoon for a game drive.

Child Policy

Hamiltons Tented Camp is unfenced and wildlife moves freely though the camp. Tents are also not equipped to accommodate more than 2 guests per unit and it is therefore not recommended for families with small children. Children from the age of 12 years are welcome though and they will be catered for separately at dinner, staying in their own tented suites and charged the full adult rate.

Day 1: Johannesburg to Hamilton Tented Camp

Your journey begins with a scheduled flight from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit Airport. Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted for a private transfer to Hamiltons Tented Camp. As one of the first private concessions in the Kruger National Park, Mluwati has worked tirelessly to ensure the sustainability of this pristine wilderness that for over 100 years has been a sanctuary for over 114 reptiles, 34 amphibians and 147 mammal species, including Africa’s Big Five.

Enjoy some of Kruger’s most spectacular landscapes and an extraordinary variety of wildlife, birdlife and plant life within the Mluwati Concession, ensuring that each safari experience will be unique.

Settle into your luxury elevated tented suite with sumptuous spaces that have picture windows and spacious timber decks from which one can enjoy the riverine forest positioning.

An early morning wake up call starts the day, followed by a freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee and rusks before setting off on a morning game drive. Savour the rich smells of the bush, hear the shrill calls of the magpie shrike and see the wind blowing through the feather grass dotting the savannah plains. A safari at Hamiltons Tented Camp will reveal new scents, curious sounds and the beauty of an extraordinary African landscape to delight your senses.

Accompanied by your private guide, on-board the powerful open 4×4 Land Cruiser vehicle, you will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the one hundred square kilometres private concession area within the Kruger National Park. Experience the inimitable thrills of a safari inside the National Park in pursuit of the legendary “Big Seven” species that call our concession home. What makes the Kruger Park unique is that its biodiversity is unmatched, with 147 species of mammal, 492 of birds and 118 of reptiles, along with 628 types of trees, shrubs and grasses as well as thousands of insects. No other national park in the world can offer this.

The Kruger Park has a hot, sub-tropical climate and most of the year it is hot during the day (above 25 degrees). It's an all year round destination, game viewing can be at its best during the winter months however the wet summer season brings full water holes, lots of newborn wildlife, and the summer migrant birds arrive. Whatever time you head out, you're sure to have an unforgettable experience!

Guests are accommodated in six exceptionally private luxury elevated tents overlooking the N’waswitsontso River. From your own private deck, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush that derives its existence from the river.

All 6 spacious luxury tents are decorated in true "Out of Africa" style with antique styled hip baths, outside showers and flowing mosquito nets. Lions are still lively and on the move at this time, antelope are more energetic and an abundance of birds may also be seen. The afternoon safaris provide an opportunity to see nocturnal animals and perhaps even the elusive Leopard.Hamiltons Tented Camp rangers drive specially designed safari vehicles which are allowed off-road, ensuring you get exclusive and intimate game viewing opportunities.
• Bush Walks Join your guide on a one and a half hour walk in our Private Concession and get to know the smaller intricacies of nature. Here you will be able to smell, touch and feel the natural surroundings you have travelled so far for. Your guide will spend time teaching you more about the tracks and signs of the bush as well as about the smaller animals often overlooked in pursuit of the Big Five.

Our mission is to preserve the biodiversity of the area by empowering the local community to collectively build a lasting landmark tourist destination that will continue to generate benefits for the local community, for conservation, and for ecotourism.

We are humbled to collaborate with our community partner, the Mirantha Youth Development Project, in empowering the youth of our local communities through life skills programs. The Mirantha Youth Development Project is a registered non-profit organisation that cares for, and educates, neglected orphans and vulnerable youth—the “forgotten children”— in the town of Acornhoek, Mpumalanga. The Project is run by Happiness Lubisi, a champion social worker, who currently supports more than 80 orphans and vulnerable youth in her community, offering them food, clothes, and emotional relief.

All 6 spacious luxury tents are decorated in true "Out of Africa" style with antique style slipper baths and rain showers and flowing mosquito nets. The recent addition of exclusive Sala lounges for each tent boasts leather couches and hospitality cabinets and include mini bars, tea and coffee making facilities. Private plunge pools are suspended upon the extended teak decks which have been positioned to enjoy the breath-taking views.

Each tent is fitted with a radio, hairdryer, ceiling fan, air-conditioner, and personal safe.

During the winter months the morning safaris depart at 06h00 and the afternoon safaris depart at 16h00. In summer the times change to 05h00 for the morning and 17h00 for the afternoon safaris.

Tea and coffee is served before the morning safari departs and in the afternoon you will enjoy high tea before setting off.

Join your guide on a one and a half hour walk in our Private Concession and get to know the smaller intricacies of nature. Here you will be able to smell, touch and feel the natural surroundings you have travelled so far for. Your guide will spend time teaching you more about the tracks and signs of the bush as well as about the smaller animals often overlooked in pursuit of the Big Five.

Booking procedure: Please notify your manager the previous evening during dinner or discuss with your guide during your afternoon safari.

Terms & Conditions: Participants must wear flat soled closed shoes. (No high heels, flops or sandals) Neutral coloured clothing to be worn. No strong perfume/cologne to be worn. Persons older than 65 years to provide a letter from their physician that they are medically fit enough to partake in this activity. Persons also need to be fully conversant in the English language to understand instructions in dangerous situations.

Guests with their own vehicles can do a self drive during the day in the Kruger National Park. The Park is home to many different mammal, reptile amphibian species and many hours can be enjoyed watching these animals in their natural habitat.
