Blur (formed in 1989) is an English Brit-pop and alternative rock band who stormed to musical success in the ‘90s with their traditional English style and ideology, hailing from London, England, UK.

Prior to the formation of Blur, vocalist/keyboardist Damon Albarn performed in the group Circus alongside drummer Dave Rowntree, which later enlisted the help of guitarist Graham Coxon. Shortly after, whilst the members were studying at London’s Goldsmiths College, the name was changed to Seymour, and Alex James joined on bass to complete the line-up. After recording a number of demos and live performances in 1989, the band caught the attention of Andy Ross of Food Records who subsequently offered to sign the band provided they changed their name.

Blur was ultimately born and began touring in 1990 in support of the Cramps, later releasing the single “She’s So High”. The band’s sound was distinctly of the Madchester genre, drawing influences from the soaring psychedelic pop of The Stone Roses combined with the guitar drive of the Who. After releasing the No. eight charting single “There’s No Other Way” and the No. 24 single “Bang”, Blur released their debut album “Leisure” in 1991.

Following the release, the band embarked on a two-month tour of the States after which Albarn and the band aimed to move away from the sound and scene of their debut, which proved problematic. “Pop Music” was the band’s first single to step into the shoes of English pop however failed to find an audience in either the UK or the U.S. Blur’s sophomore album “Modern Life Is Rubbish”, produced by Stephen Street, was issued in 1992 to generally good reviews.

“Modern Life Is Rubbish”, whilst failing to achieve its intended success, paved the way for Blur’s breakthrough album “Parklife”. Released in 1994, “Parklife” shot to the top of the UK charts, aided by the lead single “Boys & Girls” and considerable BBC radio airplay. The album remained in the charts for a total of 90 weeks, earned rave reviews from the musical press, and has long been regarded as one of Britpops’ defining albums.

During this time Blur developed a musical rivalry with Manchester-based band Oasis, marked by both band’s releasing new singles on the same day. Blur’s “Country House” ultimately outsold Oasis’ “Roll With It”, however Blur’s subsequent album “The Great Escape” failed to compete with Oasis’ sophomore “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”. 1995’s “The Great Escape” once again earned positive reviews and topped the UK charts, however with the popularity of Oasis in the U.S., Blur were increasingly losing relevancy and public support.

After a year or so out of the spotlight, with influences taken from American indie-rock, Blur reincarnated themselves and released a self-titled album in 1997. Despite the UK No. 1 single “Beetlebum”, the album failed to reignite the popularity of its predecessors, however did find popularity in the U.S. With the significant success of the single “Song 2” in the States, hype for the band crossed the Atlantic and Blur enjoyed a resurgence of success in Britain. The album “13” followed in 1999 after which Albarn focussed on the hip-hop side-project Gorillaz with cartoonist Jamie Hewlett.

Graham Coxon departed the group ahead of the band’s seventh studio album “Think Tank”, which marked the end of Blur until a reunion tour in 2009. The documentary “No Distance Left to Run” was released in January 2010, followed by a new recording for Record Store Day entitled “Fool’s Day” also in 2010.

Live reviews

Blur, icons of the 90's Britpop revolution have enjoyed one of the most critically and commercially celebrated careers of any British artist. Their music has been the soundtrack to a generation and fans old and new continue to sell out their tours in mass force to see Damon Albarn and co perform the classic songs.

From the offset, the audience are excited and remain in a sense of hushed anticipation before the iconic group begin their show. The lights go down and deafening cheers ring out to the opening bars of 'Boys & Girls'. It is a risky move opening with one of your most prolific hits but Blur simply energise the crowd as they remain engaged with the show throughout. Albarn thanks them briefly between tracks but with seven albums to fit into a 20 song setlist, time is of the essence.

Luckily all the big hitters are included, a mass sing/clap along to 'Country House' nearly rips the roof off the Civic Hall before 'Parklife' causes mass jostling within the crowd. It is the anthemic introduction to 'Song 2' which receives perhaps the greatest reaction of the evening. Blur's music does not seem to age and the quartet proves why they are considered titans of Britpop.

Blur as a band is a British icon, which enjoyed most of their success in the 90s. Legends from the Britpop revolution, Blur are a wonder to watch live. Their music redefined a generation, and they continue to be one of the most successful British rock bands today. When Blur rocked on to stage to screams of ‘Woo Hoo’ by the excited crowd, it felt like an incredible moment and memento to British music history. Blur opened with ‘Song 2’, to the crowd’s absolute delight. They rocked the stage, strumming on guitars and bass and slamming on drums. Although Blur opened with arguably their most prolific and, best, hit, the rest of the show by no means felt like a let-down after such a fantastic opening. If anything, the show went from strength to strength as the band missed up their set list, interspersing slower songs with more up tempo tracks. ‘Coffee and TV’ and ‘Girls and Boys’ also had massive crowd reactions and were two highlights of the night. The crowd begged for an encore at the end and Blur obeyed, coming back to perform ‘Song 2’ one last time for the exultant crowd.

It was amazing! I loved every song they played, and I can´t stop being excited, yet. I think they really know how to make a show and how to make people feel the music they are playing, they know that for many people that went to see them, there are songs that have listend for so many years, and the fact that after so much time, they were listening Blur playing it alive, listening many people singing the lyrics at the same time, and they are there, living that moment, with the people that must be there with them, it´s something amazing that words simply cannot discribe. That´s the best part of every concert, and is something Blur really knew how to gave us.

Blur. Ah, the first thing that comes to mind is Beetlebum. Blur has a song for each mood you're in, however, be warned there is a bit of grungy, dive-bar listening type of feel.

I've had the great fortune of seeing Blur once, and it was beyond memorable. One moment you are jumping up and down, moshing, the next you and the entire crowd are singing along to Song 2. Some artists don't sound anything like their album music, but for Blur it's so point on and more! Let's just say I lost my voice for 2 days after the concert.

So grab your 90's clothes - necklace choker, ripped jeans, & simple tee and kick it with Blur - promise you won't regret!

BRITPOP idols Blur are to perform in Manchester as part of their first regional tour for nearly four years. Singer Damon Albarn, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree will come to the Manchester Apollo on Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29 as part of a 15-date tour of the UK. The band, who headlined the Reading and Leeds festivals in August, last toured the regions on their Singles Night Tour of December 1999. James says they deliberately chose mid-sized venues after a successful residency at London’s Astoria in May this year. “We’re OK playing in front of 50,000 people in Spain,” he told Q magazine. “But nothing beats getting really sweaty with 1,000 of your best mates.” Feud During the height of Britpop, Albarn became involved in a bitter feud with Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. In 1995 the two bands went head-to-head by releasing singles on the same day, with the Burnage boys' Roll With It losing out to Blur's Country House. In recent years Albarn has repeated Blur’s success with his Gorillaz side project and an album of music from Mali in Africa. Guitarist Graham Coxon quit Blur to go solo last year while they were recording their most recent album Think Tank with superstar DJ Fatboy Slim. Good Song, the third single from that LP following on from Out Of Time and Crazy Beat, will be released on October 6.  Following the tour, some new Blur material will be played on the European spacecraft Beagle 2 as it lands on Mars on Christmas Day. Blur play Manchester Apollo on Friday and Saturday, November 28 and November 29. Sold out.

Biography - Blur

Blur fan report: ratings and reviews, 6 reviews (ø 4.17).

I would love to use this review to say how good Blur were, a band I have seen on several occasions, but alas, despite having tickets with my name on, a system which has got me into gigs over the last 20 years including Live 8, The Stone Roses, Multiple Glastonburys etc etc (I go to on average 20 gigs a year my first being in 1992) this was not to be my experience, thanks to the good people of Eventim and who can forget the jobs worths at Plymouth Pavilions. To put this in perspective myself and a good friend booked time off work, a hotel in Plymouth and proceeded to drive from Bournemouth to Plymouth in anticipation of seeing Blur and generally having a good time. In my possession I had the two tickets I had been issued, with my name on and as a gig go-er of 20+ years (I think I mentioned that already) was sure that this would be enough to get me in to the venue, I mean why wouldnt two tickets with my name on, paid for in May be enough?? So we turn up at the venue after a 3.5hour drive (and a spot of lunch) when to my horror I hear people asking for ID and bank cards. Now to muddy the water somewhat I had lost my wallet on a bus in London a few weeks earlier and had cancelled all my cards and ordered replacements (all with my name on) so in my possession I had two bank cards and another credit card, oh and being 36 I hadn't thought to bring my passport to Plymouth. I explained all of this to the security/event manager basically to be told that I wasnt getting in and there was nothing they could do!!! Further to that I am told that this is being done at Blur's request to prevent touting! Well that is all well and good and something I believe in, I have never done anything other than buy tickets through legitimate means but this falls down in two ways in my story: 1) It was pretty clear from my reaction I had not bought my ticket from a tout, what tout goes to the trouble of also producing bank cards, in someone else name, to sell them a ticket and how exactly did they do that?? 2) On leaving the venue I was approached by a guy who had two spare tickets (as friends couldnt make it) who had ID and would be happy to walk me and my friend into the venue with his spares for a fee of course. Now my understanding is that this is touting, is it not? Needless to say we did not accept his kind offer as we'd had enough for one day! In total it cost my friend and I about £300 to not see Blur that night and whilst I don't expect to get a refund (terms and conditions mate) some kind of recognition of how bad this service was would go a long way (oh and of course I would accept a refund!). Also I would like to make some suggestions on how this could be improved (I will refrain from calling it a service as that implies I received something!) 1) Nobody reads terms and conditions ever, terms and conditions are designed for people in the wrong to hide behind. If you are going to insist on this kind of system why not print this information on the ticket? 2) If you are going to ask someone for everything short of their DNA why even print tickets? A ticket in the minds of most people will signify entry regardless of small print. Instead why not issue a reference number and state that supporting ID is required. 3) Employ staff who are humans and can be a little flexible in their decision making so that legitimate fans are not made to feel like criminals. Any one of the three things above would have meant I saw the event I had paid for and I am sure would of contributed to a much more positive review, so can only be positive changes. I hold out very little hope of hearing back from anyone on this matter, but appreciate a forum in which to share my displeasure. A total joke and I can only pray dear reader that you think better of ever using eventim or visiting Plymouth Pavillions. It will be more than your jobs worth!!

simply electrifying

Like many people at the Margate concert, I had spent considerable money travelling to get there. I would easily pay 10 times that amount to see that concert all over again. An insane amount of energy, with the crowd giving as good as they got from the band - the only downside being that as so many people wanted to get up close and personal at the stage, I didnt have the room to mosh! Come to think of it, I didn't even have the room to breathe, but the adrenalin rush kept us all going (that and Damon incessantly baptizing the crowd with an endless supply of water :D). A very intimate gig (their first in 3 years) which was all the more special for it. I think everyone in that room (hopefully the band included) know that they have to tour again. My preference is the more intimate venues - somewhere where you can really share the moment... and somewhere a bit closer to home so I can spend more money on merchandise as opposed to travel ;-)

A great gig with many of the hits included. A good mix of tunes on a set list that was a mix of movement.

Peter Kay gigs pulled just a day ahead of Co-op Live's launch in Manchester

Peter Kay was due to open the new Manchester venue Co-op Live this week with two huge comedy gigs, while singer Rick Astley's preview concert over the weekend was also hit with problems.

Comedian Peter Kay has been forced to postpone two shows at Co-op Live in Manchester due to the brand-new arena's power testing falling "a few days" behind schedule.

The record-breaking stand-up comedian had been due to open the new venue - which is now the UK's biggest arena - on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

The 50-year-old Phoenix Nights star said in a statement: "I'm truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it's a brand-new venue and it's important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences.

"Fortunately, we've been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I'll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I'll see you then."

Co-op Live shared a statement on their Twitter feed, telling followers: "Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay.

"These dates will move from 23 April and 24 Wednesday to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April."

The spokesperson for the venue explained that an issue around the power supply was the cause of the cancellation.

"It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind.

"Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size."

An important update from Co-op Live. Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay. The statement added: "Peter Kay has very graciously agreed to perform his record-breaking comedy at Co-op Live on 29 (rescheduled from 23) and 30 (rescheduled from 24) April 2024. All tickets remain valid and ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase."

They said refunds would be available for any ticketholders who could no longer attend the event, and flagged that the date change might mean new tickets become available for fans who missed out the first time round.

The venue added: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some. We are thrilled to welcome Peter Kay as our grand opening act just a few days later than planned."

Over the weekend, a preview concert starring Rick Astley was also hit by delays, with ticket capacity slashed just hours before his gig was due to begin.

Astley fans who had their tickets cancelled have instead been offered seats to see US rock band the Black Keys play next week.

Once fully open, the arena - which is next to Manchester City's football ground - will have a capacity of 23,500, overtaking the capacity of the existing Manchester Arena which has a capacity of 21,000.

Built at an estimated cost of £365m, the arena counts former One Direction singer Harry Styles as one of its investors, with the pop star also advising on some elements of the arena's design.

Other stars set to play at the venue include Take That, Liam Gallagher, Olivia Rodrigo and Eric Clapton.

Peter Kay has been on a comeback tour - his first since 2010 - since December, with stops in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds scheduled through to next year.

In 2010, Kay won the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling stand-up tour of all time - playing to a total of 1.2 million people.

A musical tour of Manchester: from the Hallé to the Happy Mondays

Every genre of music has made its mark on Manchester, including dialect ballads, classical, TV theme tunes and all the strands of post-punk. Welcome to the north-west sound

M yth distorts any city’s musical history, and in Manchester myth looms as large as the new Co-op Live , a £365m, 23,500-capacity mega-venue that opens today and will soon be staging big-name acts, including Take That. So, for every occasion a music fan mentions the hit-making boy band or, for that matter, 10cc or the Hollies, a thousand more bark back: Joy Division, the Fall, Happy Mondays. Not that 10cc were a small Manc band, but they peaked before punk and a wall went up at the end of the 1970s that relegated all that had passed prior to 4 June 1976 – the night the Sex Pistols performed at the Lesser Free Trade Hall – to prehistory, as in dinosaurs, fossils, folk musicians. New hagiographies about music impresario Tony Wilson (1950-2007) are no doubt at the printers as I write. But how about we spend half an hour mooching round the Rainy City aboard the free buses and trams in search of the underplayed, surprising and tangential – with a few Gen X/6 Music standards for when we’re stuck at the lights.

You might not think Coronation Street a promising departure point, but it gives us an in to Bowton’s Yard. It’s one of those ditties that may prompt unpleasant memories of the BBC TV series Sit Thi Deawn, but listen carefully and you’ll hear it is in fact a Victorian reality show made song. Written by Marsden-born, Stalybridge-based Samuel Laycock, it inspired Tony Warren when he was devising the characters for his Weatherfield/Salford-set soap opera. Granada Studios on Quay Street also played a leading role in disseminating the north-western sound, from regional accents to theme tunes to the Beatles’ first TV appearance , in October 1962.

Happy Mondays, on new year’s day 1990.

Dialect ballads spoke truth to power after Peterloo – memorialised in 2019 by Jeremy Deller’s burial mound-like stone tump – and during the cotton famine . To spread the word, broadsides were run off at printers around the Oldham Street-Swan Street junction. Lancashire songs were central to the folk revival of the 1960s. Harry Boardman, a singer and collector from Failsworth, unearthed many anonymous songs of protest and historical record. Edward II has recorded a reggae version of the Great Flood, about the time the Medlock burst its banks in 1872. Jennifer Reid , from Middleton, performs The New Poor Law Bill a cappella on her album Gradely Manchester.

The most famous folk number, Ewan MacColl’s Dirty Old Town , alludes to a “gasworks wall” or “gasworks croft”, depending on the version. The works were in Ordsall, bounded by West Egerton Street, Liverpool Street and Regent Road. Prior to their demolition in 2019, a prosaic infographic (not quite a “ muriel ”) was placed on the West Egerton Street wall. The Working Class Movement Library is a repository of MacColl’s work and life and has significant holdings of sheet music and song lyrics.

The Hallé Orchestra was founded by Sir Charles Hallé, who was conductor for the first concert at the Free Trade Hall on 30 January 1858. The Hallé premiered Elgar’s Symphony No 1 and Vaughan Williams’s Symphony No 8. The latter, dedicated to the orchestra’s celebrated conductor John Barbirolli, took place at the Kings Hall , a converted tea house at Belle Vue (demolished to make way for a car auction centre) on 2 May 1956. The BBC recorded it a few days later. The third movement, a cavatina, is a swirl of lark-like ascents and descents.

Since 1996, the orchestra’s HQ has been the purpose-built, vibration-proof Bridgewater Hall , with former St Peter’s church in Ancoats, a hulking redbrick Romanesque building, used for rehearsals, recordings and intimate shows. Manchester has an opera house , originally known as the New theatre. Recent shows include The Full Monty and Peppa Pig’s Fun Day Out, but it may get weightier fare as the ENO relocates to Manchester over the next five years. The region’s greatest opera singer was, like so much Manchester talent, from way outside town. Tom Burke, a miner from Leigh, was known as the “ Lancashire Caruso ”. What used to be the city’s Hippodrome is now a Wetherspoons named after him.

The Manchester School includes Accrington-born Harrison Birtwistle, Salford’s Peter Maxwell Davies and German immigrant Alexander Goehr, who met at the Royal Manchester College of Music in the 1950s. They founded the New Music Manchester group with pianist John Ogdon, who had attended Manchester Grammar School, and trumpeter Elgar Howarth. Exponents of avant-garde experimentation, they shunned cotton-themed concertos and any kind of parochialism.

Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl in the late 1950s/early 1960s.

If Unesco dispensed rosettes for demolition, Manchester would have many. Most of the old taverns that hosted turns, popular dance salons and music hall venues have been razed, together with mills, warehouses and factories. Concert halls and fun palaces were removed to make way for multistorey car parks and office blocks. The Free Trade Hall , where locals including Gracie Fields, Van der Graaf Generator and James played, as well as Dylan (AKA “ Judas ” as he was called at a gig there in 1966 ), Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Genesis, is now a hotel . Does a ribald, rollicking spirit live on from the boozy days of industrial Manchester? Certainly the refurbished Band on the Wall – which reopened in March – celebrates its location on the foundations of the George & Dragon and nearby Rising Sun pubs.

Every genre of popular music surfaced in Manchester between 1950 and the present, including big band, beat, rhythm and blues, soul, chart-oriented pop, punk, goth and all the strands of post-punk. There are not as many landmarks as songs, partly because, as mentioned, the wrecking ball is unsentimental and also, because pop stars have generally used their art to get away – lyrically first, and then physically. The Bee Gees, who claimed to have practised harmonising at their childhood home at 51 Keppel Road , Chorlton-cum-Hardy, never knowingly screamed a word about the town.

Northern soul, which arrived via Liverpool docks and Burtonwood airbase, drew large followings in Stoke, Wigan, Blackpool and, before any of those , Manchester. The Twisted Wheel on Brazennose Street and, later, Whitworth Street, had gigs by the Hollies and Freddie and the Dreamers, and less well-known bands such as Powerhouse 6 , but is best known for its legendary northern soul nights. The building has gone but Twisted Wheel “lives on”, according to a members-only Facebook page , at Area, 50 Sackville Street. The Ritz, on Whitworth St, survives as an O2 franchise. Originally opened as a dance hall (with a sprung floor) in 1927, it hosted a Dancing in the Dark evening in the 50s and 60s, fronted by Crumpsall’s Phil “King of the Ritz” Moss and his Band (which later became a stalwart on TV’s Come Dancing), and went on to transition through beat, northern soul, disco and mainstream rock scenes. The mobile phone firm also owns the famous art deco-style Apollo , long a fixture for bands on tour. Stockport’s MoR hitmakers 10cc were a classic art school, let’s-go-to-London-asap outfit, but they played here when they came home, as did Sad Café.

The Pistols concert in 1976 made the Lesser Free Trade Hall a holy-of-holies in Manc muso circles, but the Electric Circus , in Collyhurst (birthplace of pianist and crooner Les Dawson), earned its credentials through many seminal punk performances, including the first gig by Warsaw (Joy Division’s first name), and shows by Buzzcocks, John Cooper Clarke, the Fall, the Nosebleeds and Slaughter and the Dogs, among others. The fact it had previously been a cinema, Bernard Manning’s Top Hat club and a bingo hall should surely have made it one for the heritage buffs to list.

The Bridgewater Hall Manchester

Richard Boon and Howard Devoto launched the New Hormones label in 1977 at a then ramshackle, now listed former hat merchants’ warehouse at 50 Newton Street . The first release, the Spiral Scratch EP , was a punk watershed and a declaration that bands needed neither London nor major labels. In 1980, Boon and others started up The Beach Club (a reference to the Situationist slogan “Under the pavement, the beach!”) at Oozits on Newgate Street. In 1978, Factory Records began as a WFH DIY disruptive startup at Alan Erasmus’s first-floor flat at 86 Palatine Road (now blue plaqued), only moving to a proper HQ on Charles Street in 1990 – where it was officially incorporated with the catalogue number FAC 251 (the name of a venue for cover bands on the site, part owned by Peter Hook). The Factory was the name of a night at the Russell Club on Royce Road in Hulme that ran from 1978-80; two years later the Haçienda (FAC 51) opened in a former yacht builders’ shop and warehouse on Whitworth Street West, beside the Rochdale Canal. The site is now occupied by “ iconic ” apartments.

The last Factory catalogue number, FAC 501, was used for the plaque on Wilson’s coffin, and no number adorns designer Peter Saville’s headstone for his business partner in Southern Cemetery . Fabled producer Martin Hannett is also buried at the necropolis – said to be entered via the Smiths’ Cemetry Gates.

There’s no better terminus than a musical graveyard. Inevitably, dozens of Manchester music sites are missing from this hop, skip and jump, including Rochdale’s recording studios, Festival of the Tenth Summer venues and countless bedrooms, garages and rave locations. But most tell versions of the same story, just as some songs seem like Venn diagrams of influence; Oasis by Happy Mondays sounds like New Order with lyrics by Morrissey or Ian Curtis, on a bad day (“You went too far, and it’s gone all the wrong way”). If you want to aurally vacuum up every Manc motif in a single song, steam on in to Mike Garry and Joe Duddell’s St Anthony: An Ode to Anthony H Wilson (Andrew Weatherall Remix; lyrics here ), perhaps while walking from the thrusting Aviva Studios/Factory International behemoth to the Epping Walk Bridge to search hopelessly – à la 80s – for Hulme Crescents and the dead souls of yesteryear.

The UFC officially announced their impending return to Manchester, England, on Wednesday April 24 with this post on social media.

Leon Edwards Vs. Belal Muhammad 2 Probable For UFC 304

The card isn’t finalized, but there is a good chance the event will feature two championship fights.

Dave Lovell, the head coach for UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards, says his fighter will be on the card and that he’s “ 99.9% ” sure the opponent will be Belal Muhammad.

The Best Gaming Mouse That’ll Improve Your Aim

A rematch between Edwards and Muhammad makes sense for multiple reasons.

The rumored challenger has been chasing Edwards for a rematch for over a year, and it appears he will finally get his second shot at Rocky. The two men met in March 2021, and the fight ended as a no-contest after Edwards accidentally poked Muhammad in the eye.

Since then, Edwards has defeated Nate Diaz, dethroned Kamaru Usman with one of the most spectacular head-kick KOs in UFC history, defeated him in the rematch, and successfully defended his title again against Colby Covington in December 2016.

Muhammad has also been productive and successful since the no-contest. Three months later, he won by unanimous decision over Demian Maia.

Muhammad also defeated Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in December 2021, Vicente Luque in April 2022 (avenging his only stoppage loss), Sean Brady in October 2022, and Gilbert Burns in May 2023.

While Muhammad is approaching a year of inactivity, he is still ranked No. 2 in the UFC’s official rankings at 170 pounds.

From a geographical standpoint, having Edwards headline a card in Manchester makes the most sense for him and the UFC. While the champion was born in Kingston, Jamaica, he fights out of Birmingham, England, so the fight with Muhammad will be a well-deserved home game for a guy who hasn’t lost a fight in almost nine years.

Tom Aspinall is Likely In, But He Needs An Opponent

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 11: Tom Aspinall of England reacts to defeating Sergei Pavlovich of ... [+] Russia by TKO in the interim UFC heavyweight championship fight during the UFC 295 event at Madison Square Garden on November 11, 2023 in New York City. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

UFC interim heavyweight champion and Salford, England native Tom Aspinall seems like a shoo-in for the card, most likely in the co-main event. The only real question is who will he be facing.

Aspinall has reportedly agreed to face Ciryl Gane, but the Frenchman has yet to agree to the fight. The UFC would likely prefer to make that fight.

However, if Gane doesn’t sign, the easy alternative for Aspinall is a rematch with Curtis Blaydes. Aspinall took the only loss of his UFC career against Blaydes when he suffered a severe knee injury just 15 seconds into their match.

Blaydes got the win because Aspinall couldn’t continue. That’s an easy sell for Aspinall and an appropriate fight for the interim champion, who is awaiting an opportunity to remove the transitional tag from his title distinction.

The card could be a massive event. There are rumors that popular fighters like Michael Venom Page, Paddy Pimblett, Ian Machado Garry, and Arnold Allen might also be on the card. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Why Mata is back in a United shirt again

Old Trafford.

  • Share With email

Juan Mata is back in a Manchester United kit again, as he promotes this summer’s Tour 2024 match against Real Betis in San Diego, USA.

Our former playmaker made 285 appearances and scored 51 goals during nine seasons as a Red, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.

It’s fair to say the Spaniard became an incredibly popular figure at Old Trafford thanks to his unique ability on the pitch and kindness off it.

We think you’ll agree, it’s amazing to see Juan back in our kit…

The crest is back on his chest

Don't miss these images of Juan Mata spreading the word about United in San Diego, USA.

Mata left Old Trafford in 2022 and went on to win titles with Galatasaray in Turkey and Vissel Kobe in Japan.

The 35-year-old is considering his next move in football and, to our delight, he is currently spreading the word about United in America.

Juan arrived in San Diego earlier this week and spent Thursday in the community, speaking to the media, visiting a local YMCA centre, training with youngsters and even seeing the air base.

“We are visiting some soccer schools, hospitals, we are trying to do as much as we can in these three or four days that we will be here," said Juan.

“Because it's very important for a football player to actually get to know where we are and connect with the soccer fans, and for Manchester United too, so it is a great opportunity for both the club and myself. I'm really excited about being in San Diego, which is a lovely place. I'm also looking forward to the game.

“It's going to be a nice game against a Spanish side that I know very well. It is going to be a competitive game, although it is pre-season and there's no points, but I'm sure that both teams will bring the best teams they can and hopefully there's great entertainment for the fans. It's always been great to play in front of the US fans for United. I remember many fantastic stadiums and many fantastic memories with them, so hopefully it's going to be one of those.”

UNITED v REAL BETIS IN SAN DIEGO   adcard

Juan has been joined by Real Betis legend Tab Ramos and, together, they are promoting this summer’s Tour 2024 fixture at the impressive Snapdragon Stadium.

Tickets for the game are available to buy online here .

Look out for more content from Mata’s trip to the USA in the coming days.
