Baraza Resort and Spa

Zanzibar is an attractive tropical island that combines perfectly with a safari experience in Tanzania. Zanzibar boasts some of Africa's finest swimming beaches, world-class scuba-diving sites, luxurious beachfront resorts, the finest spices in the world, and a wide range of water sports. Whether you want to spend your days relaxing on a tropical beach, explore the cultural attractions of Stone Town, or indulge in several adventure activities, this island affords you the gift of choice and an unforgettable getaway.

Zanzibar has a tropical climate allowing you to plan your seaside vacation in this part of Eastern Africa at any time of the year without any extreme variability in temperatures. The monsoon breezes blowing in from the Indian Ocean help to maintain its warm temperatures.

The best time to visit Zanzibar is from June to October during the cool, dry months of spring. Another popular time to visit this tropical island is from December to February when it’s hot and dry. The ocean temperatures are perfect for swimming, diving or snorkeling expeditions.

There are two best times to scuba dive off the coast of Zanzibar, in July and August and in February and March. Diving off the north coast is particularly good from June to October and off the south coast between November and March .

Zanzibar Island has two wet seasons, the long rains and the short rains. The long rains in Zanzibar begin in the month of March and pick up the tempo in April and May, dusting off by June while the short rains fall in the months of November and December . We don’t recommend visiting Zanzibar during the rainy seasons.

Unguja, also known as Zanzibar Island, is the main tropical island in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar.

Boasting some of the finest swimming beaches in Africa, as well as world-class scuba-diving sites, we rate Zanzibar as an ideal destination for travelers seeking a blissful, barefoot-luxury holiday. Whether you want to spend your days relaxing on a tropical beach, exploring the cultural attractions of Stone Town, or enjoying the many water sports on offer, this island has something for every traveler.

Zanzibar produces some of the world’s finest spices and is home to the endemic Zanzibar red colobus, the Zanzibar servaline genet, and the (possibly extinct) Zanzibar leopard.

Zanzibar is also perfectly combinable with a safari in Tanzania .

Stone Town is the heart and soul of the island and oldest part of Zanzibar City. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, it is known for its rich cultural heritage of Arab, Persian, Indian, and European elements. An incredible mashup of winding alleys and old Arabic-style buildings, you can temporarily lose yourself in the town’s magic. Soak up the local culture by sipping a cup of coffee from a local vendor or wander through the streets, discovering unique little spots at every turn.

Palace Museum

Commonly known as the Sultan’s Palace, The Palace Museum is perhaps the most historic building in Stone Town and is a must-see for any traveler. The Palace Museum is located in the waterfront, overlooking the ocean, and was built in the 19th century as a home for the Sultan and his family. After the 1964 revolution, the site was used as a Government building and was renamed as The People’s Palace. Today it serves as a museum that showcases relics of the past Sultan family.

House of Wonders

The House of Wonders is a hugely important and visually stunning historic building in Stone Town. The House of Wonders rises in impressive tiers of slender steel pillars and balconies overlooking the waterfront. Its enormous carved doors are said to be the largest in East Africa, fronted by two bronze cannon with Portuguese inscriptions dating them to the 16th century. It boasts a highly interesting exhibition that offers a brilliant insight into Zanzibari and Swahili culture. The House of Wonders is the grandest and tallest building in all of Stone Town and is found in a prominent location in front of the Forodhani Gardens on the old town’s seafront.

The Old Fort

The oldest building in Stone Town, the Old Fort is located on the seafront, right in front of the famous Forodhani Gardens. Originally built in the 17th century with the purpose of defending the island from attacks from the Portuguese, nowadays the Old Fort is one of Stone Town’s main sights. Visitors can admire the remains of the former fort and amble around the courtyard in the center, where sellers have local produce for sale. An old amphitheater still hosts events and functions in the fort.

Prison Island

A half-hour boat trip from Zanzibar, Prison Island provides a fascinating glimpse into the island’s slightly dark past – this land was once used as a place where slaves were detained and, when slavery was abolished, it functioned as a camp where people with deadly diseases were sent. Fortunately enough, that is all in the past and today the island is a nature reserve for giant tortoises and a place to see the ruins that once functioned as the prison.

Jozani Forest

A vast and scenic spread of green, Jozani is the last indigenous forest left on Zanzibar. Located inland from Chwaka Bay the area often floods, which luckily nurtures a unique swamp forest of many amazing looking trees and ferns. This forest is one of the last remaining sanctuaries in the world of the red Colobus monkey and is also a great place to encounter many indigenous varieties of flora and fauna. The forest is best reached via bus (309 or 310), by chartered taxi, or as part of an organized tour.

Nungwi Beach

Nungwi is a village found on Zanzibar’s North West tip. This is a popular place yet it’s not overrun by tourists, and it’s one of Zanzibar's top beaches as the tide doesn’t head out too far. The aquarium on the north coast of Nungwi near the lighthouse, rears small turtles found on the beach until they are large enough and then released to survive in the sea. The aquarium is a natural pond with seawater that seeps through the cliff at high tide. This is a great destination for those looking to just soak up some sun and dip their toes in the sea but don’t need the luxury of a fancy hotel.

Zanzibar is known for its spice trade, so what better way to immerse yourself in the local culture than learning about its wealthiest and most profitable industry? Travelers can choose from a variety of tours and explore the winding streets with expert tour guides who will inform you of the origins of the industry, as well as teaching guests about the wide variety of spices that Zanzibar produces and trades in.

While we have not traveled as yet
While we have not traveled as yet, the itinerary that we developed is very exciting and we are looking forward to this experience very much. Jayson Scheffers has been a wonderfully engaged and responsive partner in developing our agenda, despite our having some needs to change travel dates and agendas during the planning process because of family illness that necessitated our changing plans.
Excellent Experience
The communication and organization of the trip was excellent. Shann was great and the whole experience was amazing.

Great experience working with Lisa
Great experience working with Lisa from Safari.com, provided very helpful information and came up with a detailed itinerary for our stay in Cape Town and our 3 day safari at Sanbona. Unfortunately Lisa needed to go to a hospital but the company took over the booking process and all went very smooth. We wish Lisa a quick recovery.
7-nights Safari
I made a reservation for a 7-night safari trip to two specific Private Game Reserves in the Kruger National Park in South Africa, for one of the busiest months in Kruger: August. This reservation was made at the last minute. (3 days ago). A reservation that had some special features, with choices from someone who has already done (my husband and I) several safaris in other African countries. The architecture and design of the lodges are important to us on a professional level. And the Private Game Reserves had to be the best. Anja Meyer, from Safari.com, started and completed the reservation process in 4 days, two of which were weekends. Very efficient, fast and understanding what we wanted for our week in the bush. We are "addicted" to safaris, wildlife, bush, landscapes, nature... and we love Africa and the Africans. We can't wait for August to arrive. Thank you!

My first experience a number of months…
My first experience a number of months back wasn't as I wanted. I picked up with Dolan a little after this to find when the best time to Safari was with the chance of seeing the "big 5" and he was so helpful, guiding me to July-September. With the cooler winter months being the better chances to see more wildlife and the big five. This lead me on to deal with Jayson. Jayson has pulled out all the stops, working past 9pm Cape Town time( 8pm London UK) to help meet my needs. I travel out on 6th July and cannot wait, Thank you Dolan and Jayson. Julian Bingle, London, UK.

Sara Van Coillie has been extremely…
Sara Van Coillie has been extremely helpful in making our Namibia trip fantastic! We have emails up on emails of Sara answering all my (many) questions months and months before our trip. I've had last minute questions and requests right before and during our trip and she always responds with record time and helps us out. I feel all of our needs have been met and I couldn't be happier with Sara as our travel representative! Highly recommend her! :)

Pascal John extremely helpful, efficient and knowledgeable
Pascal John was very helpful with recommendations for our Safari Booking. He responded to all our emails and txt messages extremely quickly, especially given the time difference. He also sent videos of his recent experience at the lodges which was especially helpful.

The best 10 days Tanzania safari and Zanzibar Tours

Price of a 10 day tanzania safari and zanzibar trip.

A 10 day Tanzania safari and Zanzibar tour starts at about $2,800 per person. Mid-range lodge tours start at $3,800 per person whilst luxury tours start at around $5,000 per person. There are many factors determining the price of a 10 days Tanzania safari and Zanzibar beach combo trip.

Safari combo packages to Zanzibar and Tanzania span a wide price range, influenced by several variables. The biggest factor determining the price of a safari is the level of accommodation. This will ultimately categorize tours as being budget, mid-range or luxury. Shared tours are usually cheaper than private tours.

This is especially the case for single travelers. On a 10 day trip you might want to consider a fly-in safari, but these are considerably more expensive than road safaris. Check out the seasons too; low-season prices can be favorable and while you’ll probably get some rain at this time, it’s when the scenery is at its best.

Safari essentials and information

Is 10 days safari in tanzania and zanzibar sufficient.

10 days is plenty of time to see and experience the thrills of a Tanzania safari in the Serengeti, whilst leaving enough time to explore the beaches, sights and smells of the historic Stone Town in Zanzibar.

The number of days required to effectively complete a combined safari and beach combo trip can range from anywhere between 1-2 weeks, depending on the visitor’s time and budget.

Each day consists of an early morning game drive and a late afternoon game drive, certainly sufficient time to view the big 5 and incredible scenery. In Tanzania, a safari here is like nowhere else in the world, with a reputation for prime game viewing, the surreal Serengeti plains, luxury lodges, stunning beaches and of course, the famous Mount Kilimanjaro, visitors will be delighted with their trip here.

Accommodation offered on a 10 days Zanzibar Tanzania safari?

After a long day surveying the incredible Zanzibar and Tanzania landscapes and wildlife on offer, guests can look forward to the very best safari accommodation Africa has to offer. The accommodation offered on safari and beach combination trips is excellent with numerous options from tented camps, luxury lodges to camping grounds.

From camping in the bush with amenities to mid-range and luxury lodges, there’s something for everyone here. Guests can also go fishing, walking or hot-air ballooning before enjoying an outdoor bath and sundowners and dinner in the bush.

Must do on a 10 day Tanzania safari and Zanzibar trip

The most popular option for a 10 days Tanzania safari is the world renowned Serengeti National Park . A popular honeymoon destination and documentary location in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti plains are home to the world’s largest movement of animals including the Big 5, often called the “Great Migration.”

It’s also one of the oldest and most scientifically significant ecosystems on the planet. Its weather patterns, fauna and flora are believed to have changed very little over a million years, giving the area a prehistoric feel.

The landscape of the Serengeti Plain is also extremely varied, ranging from savannah, to hilly woodlands, to open grasslands. Apart from rhinos and hunting dogs, visitors will readily see every species of African savanna mammal within the Serengeti.

Whilst in Zanzibar, a trip to one of their famous beaches is of course essential! Pamunda Island is a small island off the beaten track is a haven for stunning sandy beaches, turquoise waters and small coves, perfect for beach walks and water based activities.

Whilst the capital of Zanzibar is Stone Town, a historic old part of the capital of Zanzibar and melting pot of Indian, European, Arab and Swahili cultures. Stone Town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a rich and storied past, perfect for visitors to wander around.

Animals on a Tanzania safari?

You’ll find just about everything in the Tanzania safari! The country is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo) and visitors will also find spotted hyenas and hippos.

Tanzania contains the highest concentration of lions in the world with over 3,000 of them found in the Serengeti alone and about 1.5 million wildebeests, in addition to wildebeest, gazelle, giraffes, black rhinos. A view of these huge wildebeest crossing the crocodile infested river Mara has been included in the 7 wonders of natural Africa.

If you enjoy driving, it is possible to visit the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater on a 5 day road safari. This combination gives you a reasonable chance of seeing all the Big Five in a short time. Ngorongoro is the only reliable park in Tanzania to see black rhino in the wild.

The Serengeti and the crater are both good for predators, and lions are particularly easy to find in both. A 5 day trip to Ruaha or Selous in the south can also be very productive where you’ll see lions, wild dogs, antelopes and kudu.

How much money do I need for a 10 day Zanzibar Tanzania safari?

Visitors should budget for approximately $320 for a Zanzibar Tanzania safari per person per day, including food and accommodation. Combination safaris in Zanzibar and Tanzania can be more expensive due to the higher costs of accommodation, transport and food.

What animals will I see on a 10 day Tanzania Zanzibar safari tour?

Visitors on a 10 day Tanzania Zanzibar combination safari will see the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo), hyenas, wildebeest, giraffes, cheetah, zebras, endangered black rhinos, hippos, crocodiles and much more.

What is the best time to go on a 10 day Tanzania tour?

The best time to go on a 10 day Tanzania safari is from June to October when there’s practically no rain and daytime temperatures are not too hot. With an overall moderate climate, Zanzibar and Tanzania however are considered a great year-round safari and beach destination.

1-Day Safari From Zanzibar - Compare 50 Tours

Zanzibar is both a fabulous destination in its own right and a launchpad for so many safari possibilities over on the Tanzanian mainland. Having only 1 day means that the choices of where you can go will be limited, but having 1 day to spend on safari is always better than having no days at all. The best thing about a 1-day safari of this kind is waking up one morning in Zanzibar, surrounded by the swaying palm trees of the Indian Ocean coastline, and knowing that you might be seeing some incredible animals before you go to bed again. It will be quite a busy day and will involve a lot of traveling. But the rewards should be worth every minute and every dollar spent.

5 Questions About 1-Day Safaris From Zanzibar

Anthony Ham

Answered by

zanzibar safari tour price

What parks are typically visited on a 1-day trip from Zanzibar?

“With only 1 day to spend on safari, the most important thing is to try and get to the safari park as quickly as possible. This means you should really look at those packages that offer a direct flight from Zanzibar to the park in question (rather than requiring an additional flight from Arusha or Dar es Salaam). This probably means that Tanzania’s Northern safari circuit will be off-limits for a day trip from Zanzibar. You’re more likely to find tours that go directly into Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) or Mikumi National Park. Even where there aren’t direct flights, the traveling time is likely to be much shorter than to most other parks on the Tanzanian mainland. Another popular possibility could be coastal Saadani National Park, although the wildlife is not quite as good as in some other Tanzanian parks.”

Is Mikumi or Nyerere (Selous) better for a 1-day safari from Zanzibar?

“Either Mikumi or Nyerere (Selous) would be an excellent choice for a 1-day safari from Zanzibar. Both have incredible wildlife possibilities, although each offers a slightly different safari experience. Mikumi is a first-rate safari experience and ranks high on my list of best Tanzanian parks for wilderness. It can sometimes even feel like a smaller version of the Serengeti, especially out on the Mkata Floodplain. And when it comes to wildlife, there’s a good chance you can see big cats, as well as elephant, giraffe, buffalo and hippo. Nyerere is also excellent, with big cats, buffalo, elephant and so much more. What Nyerere can offer that other parks can’t is the mighty Rufiji, one of Africa’s great rivers. A boat safari is a real highlight of visiting here, both for the scenery and the wildlife you might see.”

Is 1 day enough for a trip from Zanzibar?

“One day on safari is never enough, and that is particularly the case when it comes to a day trip from Zanzibar. That’s because you’ll need to factor in your travel time to get to the safari park in question, which means flying from Zanzibar to the mainland (and hopefully directly into an airstrip in the park you’ll be visiting). Another downside of only having 1 day for your safari is that you’ll spend the best time of the day traveling, rather than looking for animals. The early morning and late afternoon, when the light is best and animals are at their most active and easiest to see, would be better spent out on safari, rather than flying to get there. Despite all of this, if you only have 1 day to be on safari, then it’s sure to be a good day. In fact, I can think of no way I’d rather spend a day than going on safari. Would more time be ideal? Of course. But any time you can spend on a Tanzanian safari will be time well spent.”

Are all 1-day safaris from Zanzibar fly-in safaris?

“The only way to make a 1-day safari from Zanzibar work is to fly into the destination you’ll be visiting. Zanzibar is an island, which means you have no choice but to fly. And because you only have 1 day, you really should make the most of your time by flying directly into the national park you want to see (rather than changing planes along the way). If, for example, you decide to fly to Nyerere, the main airstrip for the park is only a very short drive from the main eastern gate into the park. This means that you will be on safari almost as soon as you get off the plane. And while you may spend a large part of your day flying to and from the mainland, just remember that the views you get to enjoy along the way could end up being a real highlight of your trip.”

How much does a 1-day trip from Zanzibar cost?

“There are lots of different tours and packages to consider when planning your day trip from Zanzibar, and prices will vary from one operator to the next. As a general rule, however, finding a cheap or affordable 1-day safari from Zanzibar will be a challenge. Because flying is so expensive, and you’ll need to fly there and back in a single day, you can expect to pay at least US$500 per person, although you could end up paying quite a lot more. There is a little less variation involved in 1-day safaris than there is for longer, multiday safaris. That’s because all of your costs (including two air transfers) will be condensed into a single day. The main cost variables will be whether you’re traveling on a group or private safari and whether you’re traveling in low or high season.”

Why Visit Zanzibar

A safari in Tanzania isn’t complete without a visit to the beautiful tropical island of Zanzibar. Zanzibar is home to some of the best swimming beaches in Africa, as well as world-class scuba-diving spots, opulent beachside resorts, spices, and water sports. Island life gives you the freedom to do what you choose, whether that’s lounging on a tropical beach, seeing Stone Town’s historical sites, or participating in any number of exciting adventure activities.

Best Time to Visit Zanzibar

The tropical climate of Zanzibar means that visitors may enjoy a beach holiday in this region of East Africa throughout the year without worrying about too many temperature swings. Indian Ocean monsoon winds contribute to the region’s consistently warm climate.

Zanzibar is at its most beautiful between the months of June and October, when the weather is mild and dry. The dry, scorching months of December through February are another favorite season to visit this tropical island. You may go swimming, scuba diving, or snorkeling because the water is at the ideal temperature.

Off the coast of Zanzibar, scuba diving is at its finest in the summer months of July and August, and in the winter months of February and March. The best months to go scuba diving are June through October off the northern coast and November through March off the southern coast.

There are two distinct rainy seasons in Zanzibar Island: the long rains and the short rains. In March, Zanzibar experiences its long rains, which intensify in April and May until clearing out in June. In November and December, the island experiences its short rains. During the wet seasons, Zanzibar is not a place you should visit.

Zanzibar Safari Packages: Our Top Pick

In Tanzania, a safari tour package is often planned by a tour operator, safari tour business, or through a self-drive Africa safari trip, taking into account the number of days travelers want to set aside for beach time and safari activities.

Given the distance between parks, it is important to take many elements into account when visitors plan their Zanzibar safari and beach tour including:

  • Which animals you would like to see
  • Budget for the trip
  • Travel party (solo, with friends, or with a larger family group)
  • Activities you would like to include (hot air balloon, hiking)
  • Beaches you would like to see as there are many great beaches in Zanzibar which visitors enjoy as well as the nearby islands of Pamunda, Pemba island, Chumbe, and Unguja Island.

Zanzibar Safaris & Packages

On this island off the coast of Eastern Africa , exquisite white sand beaches meet azure waters. Just a short hop from Tanzania’s mainland, which offers some of the world’s top wildlife encounters, Zanzibar shines as the ideal island escape while housing a richness of cultural riches. Things To Do In Zanzibar Must-Have Activities in Zanzibar. Zanzibar’s islands have everything a beach bum, culture vulture, or budget traveler might want. Since tourists provide a significant portion of the annual income, the area is generally rather secure for those venturing there on their own.

Where to Go in Zanzibar

The largest tropical island in the Zanzibar archipelago , which is located in Tanzania, is Unguja, which is also called Zanzibar Island.

We recommend Zanzibar to anyone looking for a carefree, luxurious vacation because it has some of the best bathing beaches in Africa and world-class scuba-diving opportunities. This island is perfect for all types of vacationers, whether they choose to soak up some rays on a tropical beach, learn about the local culture in Stone Town, or jump into one of the several water sports available.

In addition to being home to the endemic Zanzibar red colobus, Zanzibar servaline genet, and (maybe) extinct Zanzibar leopard, Zanzibar is also known for producing some of the world’s best spices.

Zanzibar is also perfectly combinable with a safari in Tanzania.

Zanzibar City’s historic Stone Town is where the island’s lifeblood flows. Its diverse cultural legacy includes Arab, Persian, Indian, and European influences, and in 2000 it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site . You can temporarily disappear into the town’s enchantment as you explore its marvelous mix of narrow streets and historic structures designed in the Arabic style. Take in the sights and sounds of the area as you buy coffee from a street seller or stroll the streets, where you’re sure to find some hidden gems.

Palace Museum

Tourists visiting Stone Town just must pay a visit to The Palace Museum, also known as the Sultan’s Palace, the town’s most historic structure. Once the residence of the Sultan and his family, the Palace Museum now stands on the waterfront with an ocean view, having been constructed in the nineteenth century. The site was renamed The People’s Palace after it was used as a government structure following the revolution of 1964. It now houses artifacts from the Sultans’ past and is open to the public as a museum.

House of Wonders

Among Stone Town’s most iconic and historically significant structures is the House of Wonders. Balconies and slender steel pillars rise in magnificent tiers to support the House of Wonders, which offers breathtaking views of the waterfront. Two bronze cannons bearing Portuguese inscriptions from the 16th century stand guard in front of what are supposedly the biggest carved doors in East Africa. It is an excellent display that sheds light on Swahili and Zanzibari culture. Located on the beachfront of the old town, directly across from the Forodhani Gardens, the House of Wonders stands as the tallest and most magnificent structure in Stone Town.

The Old Fort

On the beachfront, directly across from the world-renown Forodhani Gardens, is the Old Fort, the oldest structure in Stone Town. The Old Fort, which was constructed in the 17th century to protect the island against Portuguese invasions, is today a popular attraction in Stone Town. While strolling around the courtyard in the middle, visitors can buy local goods from vendors while admiring the remnants of the ancient fort. The fort is still used for festivals and activities, thanks to its historic amphitheater.

Prison Island

Prison Island, which is half an hour’s boat ride from Zanzibar, offers an intriguing look into the island’s somewhat shady history: the area was both a slave prison and, when slavery was outlawed, a concentration camp for those with fatal illnesses. The good news is that all of that happened long ago, and now the island is a conservation area where visitors can observe gigantic tortoises and explore the remnants of the prison.

Jozani Forest

Jozani is the final remaining indigenous forest in Zanzibar, and it is a spectacular and expansive green space. Situated inland from Chwaka Bay, the region is prone to flooding. Fortunately, this creates an ideal environment for a diverse swamp forest, home to numerous stunning trees and ferns. You may see numerous native plant and animal species here, and you can also visit one of the few red Colobus monkey sanctuaries on Earth. The most efficient ways to get to the forest are via taking a bus (309 or 310), hiring a cab, or joining a guided tour.

Nungwi Beach

On the very tip of Zanzibar to the northwest sits the town of Nungwi. Because the tide doesn’t go out too far, this popular spot isn’t flooded with tourists, yet it’s also one of the best beaches in Zanzibar. Near the lighthouse on Nungwi’s northern coast is an aquarium that raises baby turtles found on the beach until they’re big enough to go out into the ocean on their own. At high tide, saltwater pours through the bluff and into the natural pond that serves as the aquarium. For those who want to relax in the sun and swim in the ocean without worrying about where to stay the night, this is an ideal location.

Why not learn about Zanzibar’s most lucrative and famous industry—the spice trade—to fully immerse yourself in the local culture? Expert tour guides can show visitors the island’s twisting alleyways and tell them about the history of the spice trade in Zanzibar, among other things. Guests can choose from a number of trips.

Cheap Safaris in Tanzania

Yet you have less money on your account; worry not because we bring you tips of how to make your Tanzanian safari dream come true, cheaply but without compromising quality. Tanzania is referred by many as the Land of Serengeti, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar, offering unmatched products to guests globally; right from hospitality, culture, nature, and weather. Ticking off the African big 5 (rhinoceros, Buffaloes, lions, elephants, and leopards); the world's highest free standing mountain; the snowcapped mountain Kilimanjaro, the world's largest caldera; Ngorongoro crater, and most romantic beaches on earth in Zanzibar islands, Tanzania has it all. The annual wildebeest migration is one of the world's greatest natural spectacles hosted in Tanzania. It brings in play millions of wildebeests, gazelles, and zebras among several other antelope species through the Serengeti- Mara ecosystem in search for pasture and water, but not forgetting the vultures, lions, crocodiles, hippos, hyenas, and leopards among others who take advantage of the vulnerable and exhausted migrants. Tanzania has two main weather seasons which helps in determining travel and the expenses that come with it; Dry season experienced between January to February and June to October, whereas the wet season is from November to December and March to May; this is an indication that weather is good for a safari experience. Some coldness may only be experienced during early and late hours of the day. Just like any other safari offer, a budget safari is the way to go. It enables you to save money, while having fun, exploring and making your dream come true. During your Tanzania budget safari, you may want to visit any of the country’s 17 national parks such as Serengeti; host of the annual wildebeest migration; Mahale national park - chimpanzee haven; Ngorongoro crater - the world's largest caldera, Lake Manyara national park for tree-climbing lions and many more, or interact with the exciting Maasai people, but also putting into consideration the white sand beaches of Zanzibar. With less money in your account, consider following these tips for your trip. Packing List . To cut costs, you should come equipped with what you will use during the safari, in all the different places you will visit. To begin with, are the documents; such as yellow fever vaccine certificate, visa, passport, national identity cards, and travel insurance among others. Appropriate clothing such as long-sleeved shirts, pair of stockings, a hut, sleeping bag, jackets and beachwear among others; Gadgets such as torches, smart phone, extra memory card, batteries, power bank, cable, camera and binoculars among others. When to do a budget safari in Tanzania? Tanzania as a destination is open for visitors all year round; and as mentioned before, it has two main seasons; the dry season (January to February, June to October), whereas the wet season lies between (November to December and March to May). The logic behind understanding the seasons is that we have a peak and low season. The peak period is always during the dry season and collides with the summer holiday in Europe and Americas that leads to an influx of visitor numbers in different destinations across the country, which in turn leads to the high demand of accommodations facilities, and game drive vehicles among others, resulting to high prices. Though on the other hand, it is the most perfect season for witnessing mammals, birds, primates and many more in the wild. No rain interruptions that might disorganize the fun, hiking or any other outdoor activity. The low season is when the visitor numbers are low, mainly in the wet season. Destinations always tend to be less congested, hotel rooms available, and not much noise. However, with the rain interruptions; activities, time management, and several other challenges tend to fall on your way which affects the safari experience and fun and reduces the chances of sighting the mammals because they move less because of the abundance of pasture and water. In this analysis, we advise that to keep your budget low, travel during the low season because the prices tend to be low, and with luck, you will still be privileged to catch the sight of your favorite mammal.

Tanzania Safari Tours

Travelling as a Group

People have different tastes and preferences, as well as character. However, when it comes to keeping your budget low, we encourage you to travel as a group because costs; such as accommodation and transportation are shared, which makes the trip very affordable and fun-packed. In case you have no group to Tanzania; don't hesitate to inform your tour operator who may fix you into any other group with similar tastes and preferences, and heading to the same destinations for the same number of days. Budget accommodation in Tanzania . This is also one factor that makes the cost of a safari to Tanzania high or low. However, for this particular trip, accept to sacrifice comfort and luxury for adventure. You can spend your nights in either already existing or self-made camps, in the designated areas of the park. However, if this is not your choice, get budget accommodations outside that park because they are a bit cheaper and serve the purpose. Transportation . There are several ways of reaching different destinations in Tanzania, and these include using boats, buses, flights, motorbikes and trains among others. It is inevitable that from your country to Tanzania, you will use a flight. However, while in the country, we urge you to use road transport but preferable the private means of transport for nearby and distant places apart from Zanzibar Island. The other option is negotiating with your tour operator for a fair price because most the tour companies have experienced driver guides who will take you to all the destinations of your choice at a very affordable cost. Time Frame . The longer the trip the more costs you incur so avoid it. However, for the sake of complete satisfaction, fun, and adventure, chose destinations that host all the different species of mammals, primates, and birds you wish to see, but not compromising the stunning landscape, and ambience. Safari from Zanzibar to Tanzania

Safari from Zanzibar to Tanzania

The logistics of safari from zanzibar to tanzania.

Your dream of an unforgettable safari trip from Zanzibar to Tanzania is just a flight away.

Understandably, you might feel overwhelmed by the logistics, but don’t worry; with a little guidance, you’ll be enjoying the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife of Tanzania in no time.

Whether you’re eager for the northern Tanzania adventure or the southern Tanzania safari, each possesses a unique allure.

Flight Arrangements to Mainland Tanzania

Taking off on your safari to Tanzania begins with choosing your flight path – north to the depth and diversity of the Serengeti or south to the vast wilderness of the reserves.

From Zanzibar, you can board a short domestic flight to Dar es Salaam for the southern safari circuits, like Selous Game Reserve , now known as Nyerere National Park , or the wildlife-rich Mikumi National Park , ensuring you’re at the closest safari to Zanzibar .

If the northern call of the wild beckons, a hop to Arusha places you at the gateway to the legendary plains of the Serengeti and other northern circuit treasures.

🚢 Heading out on a safari first? Read our guide on how to take the ferry to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam .

Choosing Between Northern and Southern Safari Circuits

Deciding between a northern or southern Tanzania safari is like choosing between two equally tantalizing dishes.

The north, renowned for the Ngorongoro Crater and other illustrious parks, promises a classic safari experience .

Conversely, the southern circuit lets you delve into the raw and remote beauty of fewer-trodden paths like the Selous Game Reserve and the untouched vistas of Nyerere National Park , offering a more secluded encounter with nature.

Understanding the importance of safari duration.

The duration of your safari is pivotal to your experience.

While a two-day sojourn provides a taste of the Tanzanian wild, extending your stay to three days or more allows for a deeper connection and broader exploration of the northern Tanzania Serengeti or the tranquil sanctuaries of southern Tanzania .

Longer stays enhance the chances of witnessing the unfathomable beauty of dawn and dusk amidst the savannahs and maximizing your encounter with the rich tapestry of Tanzanian wildlife.

Destinations and Highlights

Imagine setting foot on a journey of discovery from the spice-scented isle of Zanzibar to the rolling savannas of mainland Tanzania. This voyage takes you to the heart of Africa, where legendary landscapes and abundant wildlife await.

Nestling within the arms of ancient volcanic activity lies the Ngorongoro Crater , a sanctuary for wildlife and the jewel in Tanzania’s crown. Here, the dense population of animals coexists in the largest unfilled volcanic crater in the world.

With every turn of the head, you could spot a lion, a rhino, or a gracefully striding elephant—the crater’s inhabitants making for unforgettable sightings.

Meanwhile, the baobab-studded landscape of Tarangire National Park home to elephant herds of renowned size, and the dexterity of the tree-climbing lions in lush Lake Manyara National Park will leave you captivated.

For those in pursuit of a less-traveled path, Mikumi National Park beckons with its open grasslands and the promise of a rawer slice of the safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar .

Each park not only enriches your Zanzibar Tanzania safari itinerary but spotlights the sheer diversity of Tanzania’s ecosystems.

  • Serengeti National Park : The great migration and year-round wildlife spectacles.
  • Lake Manyara National Park : Verdant landscapes, tree-climbing lions, and vibrant flamingo flocks.
  • Ngorongoro Crater: A sanctuary for wildlife within an iconic geological marvel.
  • Tarangire National Park : Large herds of elephants and the iconic baobab trees.
  • Mikumi National Park : A quieter but equally impressive experience with open grasslands and abundant wildlife.

As you tailor your safari packages , the promise of an authentic African adventure becomes a palpable reality.

Your Zanzibar safari tour is more than just a holiday—it’s a chapter in your life’s story waiting to be written against the backdrop of Tanzania’s vast beauty.

Whether you’re looking for an affordable day fly experience or the best safari from Zanzibar to Tanzania , it’s essential to consider all the factors contributing to the overall cost.

Cost Considerations for Different Safari Packages

If you’re curious about the safari from Zanzibar to Tanzania cost , it’s important to note that each package can offer vastly different experiences.

From the safari cost in Tanzania to the specific game reserve you’ll visit, many details affect the final number. A basic breakdown per person could include your chosen accommodation, the number of game drives, park entry fees, and whether meals are included.

How Prices Vary by Season and Duration

The price of safaris can also fluctuate based on the season.

📆 Wondering when to book your trip? Discover the best (and worst) times to visit Zanzibar and Tanzania.

Peak tourism seasons often see a heightened safari from Zanzibar to Tanzania price due to increased demand.

Conversely, traveling during the off-season might offer more competitive rates.

Similarly, the duration of your stay plays a crucial role; a longer trip typically means a higher overall cost but could result in a lower per-day rate, offering more value for your time in the wilderness.

Understanding the Components of Your Safari Package Price

Demystifying the price means knowing what you’re paying for.

Here’s an insightful look at a typical price breakdown for a 3-day safari, giving you clarity on what may be included in the Zanzibar safari cost .

Keep in mind that these figures are estimations and will vary based on actual travel dates, the specific game reserve chosen, and the level of accommodation.

When planning the best safari from Zanzibar to Tanzania , it’s recommended to request detailed itineraries and price breakdowns from reputable tour operators to compare what’s included and ensure the safari aligns with both your expectations and budget.

Guided Tours vs. Independent Safari Travels from Zanzibar

When considering a safari adventure from Zanzibar , you are faced with two enticing choices: embark on guided safari tours or explore the wilderness through an independent safari .

While guided tours offer the expertise of seasoned guides and handle the nitty-gritty of logistics, an independent safari gives you the freedom to carve your own path.

However, this freedom comes with the responsibility of detailed planning and a need to stay informed about the nuances of national park protocols.

For those who seek a hassle-free journey with maximized wildlife encounters , safari operators have designed several all-inclusive guided packages .

Let’s compare the options with a quick overview:

Consider that guided safari tours may be the answer if you’re looking for a first-class, educational, and social wildlife experience right from the comfort of Zanzibar .

Wildlife Encounters: Can You Expect the Big Five?

Embarking on a wildlife safari in the heart of Tanzania is not only about the thrill of the adventure but also about the anticipation of spotting the iconic Big Five.

As you transition from the azure waters of Zanzibar to the vast wilderness of the mainland, Tanzania’s renowned national parks await with promises of unforgettable wildlife encounters .

Spotlight on Serengeti’s Diverse Ecosystem

The Serengeti National Park , a symbol of safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar , spreads across an awe-inspiring ecosystem brimming with the diversity of life.

Here, each turn reveals a potential encounter with the celebrated Big Five.

Majestic lions abound, leopards prowl in secret havens, elephants traverse the plains in herds, buffalos lounge in their imposing strength, and if fortune favors, the elusive rhinos grace your presence.

The Serengeti is the very essence of the Tanzania wildlife exploration , where the drama of survival and the beauty of nature coalesce.

Exclusive Wildlife Experiences in Nyerere and Ruaha National Parks

In contrast to the vast Serengeti, the Nyerere and Ruaha National Parks offer a more secluded sojourn into the wild. As part of your big five safaris, these parks introduce you to an array of singular wildlife experiences away from the larger crowds.

Nyerere’s lush landscapes present opportunities to witness mighty elephants and regal lions, while the rugged terrains of Ruaha are home to towering giraffes and vibrant birdlife alongside the Big Five, fostering a truly exclusive wildlife safari .

Ngorongoro Crater: Rare Species and Majestic Landscapes

The Ngorongoro Crater , often referred to as Africa’s Eden, welcomes you with its breathtaking vistas. Nestled within this natural amphitheater, protected species such as black rhinos find refuge amidst verdant scenery and pristine waters.

Here, in the crater’s embrace, the balance of predator and prey plays out in daily brushstrokes of life and survival, culminating in an astounding array of wildlife encounters set against one of Tanzania’s most majestic backdrops.

While the guarantee of spotting all members of the Big Five during your safari hinges on nature’s whims, these storied landscapes provide the perfect setting to hope for the quintessential safari highlights.

Your quest for the Big Five forms the cornerstone of an unparalleled adventure, one that captures the imagination and spirit of the ultimate safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar .
