Director Statement

When we think of the Philippines landscape, the first thing that comes to mind is beautiful beaches with white sands and crystal clear water. But there are beautiful mountain areas that inspire love.

The country is a magnet for tourists and those who desire to look for lifetime partners. Because of this, I always thought about a romantic story with cross cultural flare while showcasing the beauty of the Philippines and its culture. In addition, I also wanted the story to highlight another area of the country that possesses under rated beauty with its landscape. I have a special attachment and affiliation with the Cordillera Region of the Philippines. Although I did not grow up in that area, it holds a dear place in my heart. I spent seven years in Baguio City and completed my bachelor’s degree at a premier university there. And there is Banaue, which is also part of the Cordillera Region and is considered as the eighth wonder of the world.

Thus, the film Take Me To Banaue was born, which I co-wrote with a talented writer. The film follows Hank, a gawky American Engineer in his pursuit to meet the perfect girlfriend who he hopes will become his wife. After discovering that Grace (the woman he fell for) is in fact a stunning escort and that she was staying with him so that she could get financial help, Hank has to spend the days and hours grappling with a deal from a businesswoman and listening to his friend’s advice—all as he tries to make it to Banaue…for the woman he loves.

The primary theme of Take Me To Banaue is Justification. The four major characters, Hank, our protagonist; Grace, Hank’s love interest; Jinky, an entrepreneur with a colonial mentally that Americans are superior race; and Jordan, a doctor and Hank’s best friend who is suave, smart and confident, all try to justify their actions and choices in life. This script was conceptualized and developed taking into account that something personal is also universal. I have an interracial marriage (I am a Filipino married to a Japanese woman). The journey of the Protagonist embodies an authenticity that I believed many people from all walks of life can relate with.

Film ‘Take Me to Banaue’ mixes romance, comedy and Filipino American flair

When love begets love, everything would flourish but what if it comes with a price and seeks justification? This Filipino American film is set to sweep you off your feet.

“Take Me to Banaue” will transcend love and its boundaries as it reinvents the romantic comedy genre. The film also gears up for its worldwide release on Feb. 12, 2024 — in perfect timing with Hearts Day.

Promising a blend of talent and charm, the film was cast by American actor Brandon Melo and Filipina German model and Miss Universe Philippines 2021 1st runner-up Maureen Wroblewitz. The latter must be familiar if you’re a Juan Karlos’ fan (yes, she’s the ex that many assume was the source of his heart-wrenching songs. )

A Filipino American film infusing Filipino and Hollywood talents

Filipino American director from Dallas, Texas Danny Aguilar brings this rom-com narrative to life. Teaming up with Philippines’ local artists and Hollywood’s finest, his production Carpe Diem Pictures turns a simple plot into a compelling narrative.

The impressive selection of talents – Thea Tolentino, known for her role in “The Half Sisters,” Dylan Rogers from Chicago and top 10 semifinalist in Miss Universe 2014 MJ Lastimosa – elevates the film’s charm.

Filipino comedy actor Norman Balbuena and Archi Adamos are also part of “Take Me to Banaue’s” portfolio boasting a powerhouse of performers.

Beyond the renowned beaches of the Philippines, the picturesque facades of Baguio City and Banaue, Ifugao all the way to Dallas, Texas were the locations of the film.

Aguilar made sure to capture the beauty of the northern part of the country. “The country is a magnet for tourists and those who desire to look for lifetime partners. Because of this, I always thought about a romantic story with cross-cultural flair while showcasing the beauty of the Philippines and its culture,” reflects Aguilar.

Accompanying the scenic shots is the core of “Take Me to Banaue” — delving into justification. The characters – Hank, the hopeless romantic; Grace, the object of his affection; Jinky, a businesswoman with a different outlook on cultural superiority and Jordan, Hank’s cool intelligent best friend – all go through the raging waters of justifying their life choices.

“This script was conceptualized and developed taking into account that something personal is also universal,” adds Aguilar.

Curious to find out “what’s Grace got to do with it?” This Filipino American film will grace the worldwide stage on Feb. 12, 2024, and will be available for streaming at www.takemetobanauefilm.com .

Maureen Wroblewitz makes acting debut in ‘Take Me to Banaue’

F ormer Miss Universe Philippines 2021 first runner-up Maureen Wroblewitz has embarked on a new journey in the entertainment industry, transitioning from modeling to acting with her role in the film ‘Take Me to Banaue.’

Portraying the character of Grace, Maureen expressed her gratitude towards Director Danny Aguilar for his guidance and patience as she ventured into acting for the first time. Stepping away from the runway, Maureen acknowledged the challenges of showcasing her acting skills to the public.

“I’ve been very lucky with Director Danny Aguilar. He’s been very patient with me since this is my first time acting and of course. It’s kinda nerve-wracking because I’ve done modeling my whole life, and this is the first time that people are seeing my work,” Maureen said.

Since relocating to Los Angeles, Maureen has dedicated herself to honing her craft by attending acting workshops to enhance her abilities and prepare for her debut role.

In ‘Take Me to Banaue,’ Maureen embodies the character of Grace, a young and independent woman from Banaue driven by the desire to support her family, even if it means making difficult choices. Adding to the complexity of her role, Maureen converses in ‘Tuwali,’ the native language of the Ifugao tribe, throughout the film.

Joining Maureen in the cast is Kapuso actress Thea Tolentino, portraying the role of Jinky Pascual. Thea expressed enthusiasm for exploring the comedic aspect of her character, marking a new challenge in her acting career.

The ensemble cast also includes Brandon Melo, Dylan Rogers, Boobay, and MJ Lastimosa, each contributing to the diverse dynamics of the film.

‘Take Me to Banaue’ follows the journey of Hank, an awkward American engineer on a quest to find love. As Hank navigates through business deals and seeks advice from friends, he endeavors to reach Banaue for the woman he adores, discovering truths along the way.

Directed and co-written by Danny Aguilar, ‘Take Me to Banaue’ offers viewers an immersive experience into the rich culture and heartfelt storylines. The film is now available for streaming on www.takemetobanauefilm.com , offering rental options starting at $14.99 and purchase options at $19.99.

Top 18 Banaue Tourist Spots: Rice Terraces and Nature Trips

Located in Ifugao Province within the north of Luzon , Banaue prides itself of being the home to the famous Banaue Rice Terraces found in the PHP1000 bill but there’s more to this rustic destination than that just one rice terraces.

Banaue has preserved the generations-old traditions of its indigenous people in the Philippines for decades, making it a must-see destination for people looking for an authentic countryside experience.

Banaue is also home to Batad, an Ifugao village where one can find the Batad Rice Terraces, a high rice field that is over 2,000 years old.

Banaue also offers a myriad of activities to choose from including visiting a museum and an ethnic village and soaking up the greatness of nature with falls and hot springs to name a few.

Traveling to Banaue is not a walk in the park. A trip from the Philippines’ capital, Manila, takes about nine hours and can only be done by bus, van, or jeepney, a mode of transportation unique to the Philippines.

Despite this, don’t get discouraged for Banaue offers more than just beauty but a whole lot of unique experiences you shouldn’t miss.

If you’re planning a trip to Banaue, below are some tourist attractions that you should take note of and add to your itinerary.

Beautiful view of an Ifugao at the Banaue Rice Terraces

Banaue is the entry point to the rice terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras. A trip to this highland is not complete without checking out the local wonders of the Philippines on this side of the country.

You can explore its rice terrace clusters, five of which have been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites : the Batad Rice Terraces, Nagacadan Rice Terraces, Hungduan (Hapao) Rice Terraces, Mayoyao Rice Terraces, and Bangaan Rice Terraces.

Although not a UNESCO World Heritage site due to the presence of modern structures surrounding it, Banaue Rice Terraces is still considered a National Cultural Treasure of the country.

It is commonly referred to by the locals in Banaue as the 8th Wonder of the World. So, you should still include it in your itinerary to get a complete feel of what Banaue has to offer.

While some tourists opt for just a quick glance at the rice terraces as a proud moment since it’s famous for being in the PHP1000 bill, overnight treks make the experience more unique.

Local family milling rice in Banaue

You can join a Banaue heritage tour  or customize your own if you’re traveling with a group.

Amphiteater-like Batad Rice Terraces in Banaue

It is one of the five inscribed clusters declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites alongside Nagacadan Rice Terraces, Hungduan Rice Terraces, Mayoyao Rice Terraces, and Bangaan Rice Terraces.

To start your Batad adventure, you’ll have to get to the town proper of Banaue, about 18 kilometers away from Batad. From Banaue, you will have to register at the tourism office and pay an environmental fee.

Then, you can take a public jeep to an area called Saddle, the endpoint of all public commuter vehicles going to Batad.

Other alternative transportation to Saddle is a private jeep or a tricycle that you can charter. The journey to the Saddle is about one hour. Once you’ve been dropped off, you need to walk for at least 20 minutes to get to the village of Batad. So, your Batad daydream begins.

These amphitheater-like rice terraces are a favorite among local and foreign tourists. If it is your first time, get ready to find yourself in awe of its natural beauty.

But admiring it is more than just looking out into the vast emptiness, with the blue sky and lush greenery stretching before you; admiring it means hiking and trekking the rice terraces and discovering hidden gems such as Tappiya Falls and Awa View Deck.

Although less popular than its neighboring rice terraces, Bangaan Rice Terraces is yet another wondrous landscape to see. From the town proper of Banaue, you may take a jeepney bound to Bangaan or hire a tricycle for a half-day trip.

Bangaan is 15 kilometers from the town proper via the town of Mayoyao and almost one kilometer after the Batad junction.

Staying in Bangaan will make you appreciate the simplicity of life with only the basic accommodation available to tourists, allowing you to mingle with the locals and observe their everyday musings.

Expect to be surrounded by the sight of the valley, the fields, the mountains, and a couple of traditional Ifugao houses which are wooden huts with cogon roofing.

To explore Bangaan Rice Terraces, you will have to trek down for around 20 minutes. Be prepared to have your physical strength tested as it can also be a grueling hike back for those who are not physically fit.

If you’re looking for a more challenging hike, Bangaan can also be your jump-off point for an even longer journey, one that traverses the Bangaan Rice Terraces to Batad and continues to the villages of Cambulo and Pula and ends in Banaue.

Hapao Rice Terraces in Banaue, Philippines

What makes these rice terraces unique from the rest is that it’s the longest yet the easiest to trek due to its gentle slopes. The terraces are made of solid stone walls with heights reaching up to 20 feet. Its view deck is also just beside the road making it easier to bask in its captivating beauty.

Although the hike is a lot easier, getting to Hungduan is not, as you will have to pass through bumpy mountain roads. But it’s worth it once you’re greeted with the picturesque greenery.

Hapao also offers relaxing views of mountain streams, a river in the middle of the trail, and of Bogyah Hot Springs that you can take advantage of after a day of traveling and trekking.

The hike can be made more memorable by hiring a local guide who can tell you more about Hungduan, its people and culture, and some secret spots hidden in the hills.

Panoramic View of the beautiful man-made Banaue Rice Terraces

Having a quick stop at any of these viewpoints will give you a chance to interact with the locals and take snapshots of elderly Igorot and Bontoc women clad in their full tribal wear.

There are also souvenir shops on the way to the viewpoints for those shopping for mementos and local cafes for a quick refreshment.

Ifugao feather headdress at Banaue Museum

Revel in the rich history and culture of the Igorots by observing the vintage photographs depicting the life of the people, books written by famous anthropologist Otley Beyer who moved to Banaue in the 1900s, and some treasured jewelry, weaponry, Igorot artifacts, and traditional clothing and mountain baskets.

There's an entrance fee to the museum and it’s open from 7AM to 4PM every day.

Traditional native house with cogon roofing in Tam-An Village, Banaue

It gives a glimpse of the typical life of the locals with the native houses and the rice terraces surrounding it. To get to this village, simply get off at Banaue Hotel and walk downhill.

It’s better to visit this village while it’s still being preserved by the people. With time and economic challenges slowly threatening the community’s sustainability, it will not be long enough until the Tam-An heritage will be damaged.

Make sure to respect the culture of the people and practice responsible tourism when you visit though to help preserve the heritage of Tam-An.

If you’re looking for one of the best places to stay in Banaue, then Banaue Ethnic Village and Pine Forest Resort just might as well be on your list.

Just around 7 kilometers away from the town proper and just about 2 kilometers past the Banaue Viewpoint, this accommodation can easily be accessed via a jeepney.

It gives tourists a more authentic experience with its accommodations designed like native Ifugao huts. You can choose from several accommodation options, from standard rooms to modern and traditional Ifugao houses.

And because it’s tucked away from the hustle of the town, you’re sure to have a peaceful vacation surrounded by rice paddies and pine trees, occasional chirping of the birds, and a chilly, cool breeze from the riverside.

There’s also an organic farm and a pool with water coming from natural spring, giving guests like you a more relaxing experience.

Sculpture of rice gods, locally known as Bululs

If you want to bring home some intricately sculptured rice gods, also known as bululs by the locals, Hiwang Village has some of the best to offer. Houses in Hiwang Village are carefully preserved by the locals.

Don’t be shocked to find skulls displayed outside of the native huts too as this is part of their culture, a practice where heads were cut off during headhunting and skewed on a bamboo. After offering it to the chieftain, it will then be buried until the skin rots for two years before it is put outside the house.

Hanging Bridge in Banaue

The bridge also serves as a connection to Batad, home to the Batad Rice Terraces.

If you have seen photos of tourists with a welcome arch in Banaue as their backdrop, that’s the Banaue’s Arch. It may be unimpressive for some but still a good starting point for your Banaue adventure.

Here you will find little stalls selling snacks for starving tourists who were just about to end their close to 9-hour long road trip from Manila. A quick look on the side of the arch and you will almost catch a glimpse of the beauty that awaits you.

Aguian View Deck in Banaue

Located along Banaue Bontoc road, this view deck is just 10 to 15 minutes away from the town proper and offers tourists a beautiful scenery of the terraces.

It’s best to check out this viewpoint in the morning until noon as it may get foggier in the afternoon. There are also souvenir shops where you can find Ifugao wood carvings and accessories.

If you want the best view of the Batad Rice Terraces, go trek to Awa View Deck and be treated to a panoramic view of the century-old treasure. To get to this spot, you will have to endure steep descents and ascents for more than an hour.

This is not for the faint-hearted. It’s best to start the trek in the morning when the chilly air can still kiss your skin and make the hike more tolerable.

Awa View Deck is also a start-off point for those looking to visit Sitio Patpat, a little village with its own share of rice terraces too.

Expect to experience a more grueling trek on your way back with rocky and slippery land to step on. So, if you’re worried about getting hungry and draining your energy in both ways, make sure to bring extra food with you.

Exploring the Batad Rice Terraces and coming from Banaue will not be possible without passing by Batad Saddle Point, the entry point to the UNESCO World Heritage site.

You can charter a jeepney, that travels twice daily, from Banaue to get here.

Tappiya Falls in Banaue

Soak up not only the beauty of the Batad Rice Terraces but also the refreshing water from Tappiya Falls, a hidden gem nestled within the villages of the Cordilleras.

Yet another challenging trek is needed to find it though because as with all things in life, nothing good comes easy. So, prepare yourself to be mesmerized with this waterfall after a long journey.

You may begin your hour-long trek from Ramon’s Native Homestay. There are resting camps along the way, enough for you to refuel for the rest of the trip. If any, this trek to the falls will also give you a closer look at the rice terraces.

Bring a walking stick with you to make your step easier as you will be encountering muddy slopes and slippery footpaths. If you want to stay and swim a little longer, try starting your Tappiya adventure early morning.

If you're craving for some real mountain hiking, the Cordilleras have mountains you can conquer, aside from trekking the rice terraces. One of which is Mt. Amuyao, a 2,702-meter-high mountain, which is located in Sitio Macalana in Barlig and is the highest peak in the Mountain Province.

It is popular among seasoned hikers so do not force yourself to hike it if you’re not physically ready. Before you can hike Mt. Amuyao, you will need to register first at the Municipal Tourism Office of Barlig and pay a corresponding fee.

Hiring a guide is also required. You may also choose to hike overnight. Hiking Mt. Amuyao takes around three to five hours, depending on your group’s pace. Side trips to other spots such as Tomallan Falls, Monkingub Falls, and Lake Tufub among others can also take up your time.

The cold weather atop the highest point in the Philippines calls for a refreshing warm dip. Thanks to Bogyah Hot Spring, you’re sure to have exactly what you need.

Located at the upper part of the Hapao River and sandwiched between Barangays Hapao and Baang, Bogyah Hot Spring can be accessed via a close to 40-minute hike from the national road, beside the muddy rice paddies of Hapao Rice Terraces.

If you have never walked atop a high rice field before, then this will be one for the books so make sure to document every step. However, it’s not as hard as the trail going to Tappiya Falls. With temperatures ranging from 39 to 40°, your aching muscles from all those treks will definitely be soothed.

Another gem of Hungduan in Ifugao Province is Mt. Napulawan not only for being enchanting but because of its historical significance. It was believed to be the mountain where the Japanese Imperial Army General Tomoyuki Yamashita sought refuge during the war.

Its name, derived from the Ifugao word “pulaw”, which means “white” which perfectly describes the sea of clouds that surround the top of the mountain. The trails—Hungduan and Hapao—are both very challenging with Hungduan being the more common jump off point among hikers.

Close up view of one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Batad Rice Terraces

Visiting Banaue requires a lot of logistical planning and coordination if you want to make the most out of your visit especially with some areas being incredibly challenging to reach. Banaue isn’t a highly recognized destination around the world for nothing.

Its rice terraces will not be declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites only because of the picturesque views it offers to the spectators, but because of the historical significance it holds, the culture it represents, and the timeless heritage its story is reflective of.

Banaue is also home to the Cordillera mountain ranges, an equally important refuge during the Second World War.

It will also not be worth every dime if you won’t have an experience of a lifetime. So, if you’re a culture geek, travel through the native Ifugao villages and get to know the locals, most of whom have knowledge passed down from generations before them.

Learn how they preserve their heritage firsthand and bask in the rich knowledge about their artifacts, designs, traditions, tribal wear, wooden carvings, and folk tales.

For those who are thirsty for some active adventures, you won’t run out of treks and hikes to do as the rice terraces themselves are nestled within forests and mountains. And because Banaue is high land, there is a handful of other mountains to hike.

Lastly, with the perfect play of nature in Banaue, you won’t have to worry about relaxing and reconnecting with the world. It’s the best place to detox from the highs and lows of life; the hustle and bustle of the city.

To say that the journey is long, and might be rough when you decide to go to Banaue may be true.

But, as with all journey that brings immense joy and memorable experiences, the difficulties consist of hour-long treks, half-day road trips, and slippery mountain slopes are all well worth it in the end. You’re on top of the world, after all.

Banaue is close to other great tourist destinations such as Sagada and Baguio. Check out  Baguio tours and activities that you can add to your bucket list during your trip in the Northern Philippines .

A 4-day trip to Banaue

trip to banaue movie

A trip to Banaue

4 amazing days, background about the “eighth wonder of the world”.

In the mountain province, you will find the eighth wonder of the world. In this region of the Philippines, there is a place like no other on Earth. Banaue is famous for its rice terraces, which are ancient steps carved into the mountains by the Igorot tribe who reside in the north. The culture of the Igorots has been preserved to this day and is characterized by ceremonies rooted in their unique traditions. It was through these traditions that the technology of creating these terraces, which serve both artistic and practical purposes, was developed many years ago.

Rice Terraces from the Ancient World

The terraces are built at the height of the mountains, where it is cool and serene, and walking on the terraces feels like a journey from hidden worlds. Many travelers who come to trek on the cool paths refuse to leave due to their mystical belief, stemming from the understanding of the 2000-year-old mystery and the belief that these are steps to paradise.

In addition to the Banaue rice terraces, which have earned their place on UNESCO’s list of honored sites, we will encounter the rice terraces of Batad, Mayoyao, Paoay, and Kiangan. Their color is a lush green in April-May. We offer several options for trekking in the rice terraces, and the available options are listed below: >> Batad Rice Terraces – Click here

>> Directions to Banaue – Click here for various options

It is advisable to bring:

Additional snacks for the road, camera, warm clothing, a lightweight raincoat just in case, extra water, and a smile!

What does a trip to Banaue include:

  • Air-conditioned transportation from Manila and back to Manila, with a dedicated driver and fuel and toll expenses included in the itinerary.
  • A guide for various trips.
  • Accommodation in a hotel in Banaue or equivalent in standard rooms (upgrades to deluxe rooms are available).
  • Daily breakfast.
  • Pickup from your hotel or place of residence in Manila and return transportation.

** There is an option to arrive by flight and return by flight, which reduces costs somewhat and, of course, shortens the travel time to Banaue and back to Manila… From the Cauayan Airport, it’s about a three-and-a-half-hour drive to Banaue, assuming there are no road repairs or unexpected traffic jams. From the Tuguegarao Airport, it’s about a five to six-hour drive, again assuming there are no road repairs or unexpected traffic jams.

The trip to Banaue is suitable for individuals and groups of all sizes.

We occasionally organize group tours that spontaneous travelers can join. If there are no group tours departing, we can arrange private tours for anyone interested.

  • Travel to Banaue by overnight bus and return from Banaue by overnight bus
  • Guide for the various tours listed in the itinerary

Introduction

We arrived at the highland town of Banaue for the first time in the summer of 2004. I grew up in a broken family and don’t get to see each other very often. So, I was extremely delighted about this trip.

The lengthy talks, belly laughs, and the family photos taken on the gorgeous rice terraces of Banaue, Ifugao are memories worth cherishing. Undoubtedly, our short sojourn in the mountain village has imparted upon us the value of savouring these fleeting moments.

Due to Banaue’s mountainous terrains, the early Ifugaos carved their mountains using their bare hands to grow crops. Hence, the existence of an engineering marvel and a great legacy to the world – the Banaue Rice Terraces.

Holders of foreign passports intending to visit the Philippines should contact the Embassy of the Philippines regarding entry requirements. Otherwise, consult iVisa.com , a reputable and trusted visa service provider.

Travelers to the country must undergo stringent immigration procedures. Please read the article, ‘How to Avoid Getting Offloaded at Philippine Immigration?’

The Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC, in the mountains of Banaue is UTC +08:00.

Thus, Banaue is four hours ahead of Dubai, six hours ahead of Paris, and seven hours ahead of London. Also, Banaue is twelve hours ahead of New York City. Conversely, Banaue is an hour behind Tokyo and three hours behind Sydney.

Like most parts of the Cordillera region, Banaue Ifugao has a temperate climate due to its high elevation. The mountain town has an altitude of around 4,000 feet above sea level. Thus, the months from December to February bring a much colder atmosphere than the rest of the year.

Banaue’s main draw is the rice terraces located in Batad and Bangaan, declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. So, visiting Banaue is best when rice terraces are most verdant.

April to June

The driest month, from April to June, are the best time to witness Banaue’s rice terraces in their lush greens. However, the summer season may bring a bit warmer temperatures.

July to November

The harvest time begins in July so is the wet season. These months are often raining and prone to landslides. However, expect to witness an incredible view of the rice terraces growing luxuriantly, starting October until November.

December to March

Months from December until March is the best time to visit Banaue for much colder weather. However, rice fields in these months are pools of mud and completely barren. Hence, avoid these months or enjoy the scenic views of bare terraces.

Ifugao is the language spoken in the Ifugao province. It consists of other dialects, such as Ayangan, Kalanguya, and Tuwali. Additionally, locals speak and comprehend Ilocano, Tagalog, and English.

Here are essential Ifugao words and phrases to learn before your trip to Banaue, Ifugao.

  • Mayat ni aghapa – Good morning
  • Hipay ngadan mu? – What is your name?
  • Mayat ni mangiwid – Good afternoon
  • Agak maawatan – I can’t understand
  • Mayat ni malabi – Good night
  • Mabalin tulungan mirak? Can you help me?
  • Hipay oras mo? – What time is it?
  • Piga? – How much?

The Philippine peso, abbreviated as PHP, is the official currency in the Philippines. Exchange rate as of December 9, 2022 is PHP 55.40 or USD 1.

Like  Batanes , hard cash is the primary payment mode in Banaue, especially in Batad. But there are a couple of ATMs in the public market if you run short of cash.

Banaue Travel Guide Tip:  Bring enough cash to cover the entire duration of your trip. The ATMs in Banaue will likely run out of bills and is sometimes offline.

Ifugao shares a land border with Mountain Province to the northwest and Benguet to the west. Moreover, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino are the neighboring provinces to the south, while Isabela is to the east.

If from the nearby provinces, or Metro Manila, land transportations are viable options to reach Banaue.

Metro Manila to Banaue via Baguio

Victory Liner, Joy Bus, and Solid North have daily trips to Baguio from their Pasay, Manila , Cubao, and Caloocan terminals. It will take 4-6 hours from Metro Manila to reach Baguio .

In addition, it will take another three-hour bus transfer from Baguio to get to Banaue . Ohayami Trans cater to this route.

Metro Manila to Banaue via Sagada

If you intend to visit Sagada before heading to Banaue Ifugao, spend eleven hours traveling from Metro Manila to Sagada .

From Sagada, ride a jeepney, which departs from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to Bontoc for about 45 minutes. And from Bontoc, buses, vans, jeepneys, and tricycles are the viable options to reach Banaue. The travel time is roughly an hour and a half.

Metro Manila to Banaue

Coda Lines and Ohayami Trans have direct trips from  Metro Manila to Banaue for ten hours. An overnight journey to Banaue via night buses is recommended.

Banaue Travel Guide Tip: Otherwise, book an organized Banaue tour paired with Sagada and Baguio. This hassle-free tour often includes van transfers, lodgings, and entrance fees.

The Banaue Museum and the Tam-An Village, located in Poblacion, are nearby and walkable. However, expect some inconveniences as you go farther, like Batad, a secluded village and home to imposing ‘Batad Rice Terraces.’

To reach Batad, catch the only departing Batad-bound jeepney, stationing at Banaue Public Market at 2:00 p.m. Otherwise, hire an entire jeepney or tricycle that leads you to the village, but for a pricier fare. The tricycle fare starts at PHP 500.00, or USD 9.04 per way.

Inversely, ride a Poblacion-bound jeepney that leaves from Batad at 9:00 am once daily.

Accommodations are sprawling in Banaue due to the growing number of tourists who wish to see up close Banaue’s renowned wonders. However, many accommodations are simple yet decent lodges, hostels, and inns concentrated in Poblacion and Batad.

A multitude of accommodations is found in Banaue’s commercial center, Poblacion. Also, retail shops and restaurants are close-packed and are the jumping-off place to other parts of the Cordillera.

Banaue Rice Terraces, located in Viewpoint, are a few minutes-ride from Poblacion.

The world-renowned Batad Rice Terraces and the Tappiya Falls are the main draws in Batad. Accommodations are homestays, guesthouses, and hostels, providing essentials like sleep and bath. Also, some have balconies with views of the expansive rice terraces of Batad.

Banaue Travel Guide Tip:  Banaue, Ifugao is peppered with concreted structures, and so are their accommodations. But, visiting Banaue would not be complete without spending a night in a ‘Bale’ or a traditional  Ifugao house.

The internet connection in remote places like Siargao could be challenging, and so in Banaue. So, expect a slow to moderate internet speed as you explore this far-off Cordillera town.

Banaue operates on a 220 V supply voltage with a frequency of 60 Hz and has one type of power adaptor:

• A or has two flat parallel pins
