The city’s popular courses like historic Jackson Park Golf Course, award-winning Harborside International Golf Center, and the lakefront Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course make for a quick and convenient golf getaway. And top suburban golf courses near Chicago such as Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in nearby Lemont have hosted professional tournaments.

Golf season in Chicago is typically April through November, though spots like Diversey Driving Range & Miniature Golf are open year-round with heated and covered tees. Here’s a primer on where to golf in Chicago.

Diversey Driving Range & Miniature Golf Quite possibly Chicagoland’s most picturesque driving range, it is located just off of Lake Michigan. The two-tier range with covered and heated stalls is open year round. The Chicago in the season 2023 is being played in Sugar Grove, Illinois, USA at the Rich Harvest Farms. The tournament starts at the Friday, 22nd of September and ends at the Sunday, 24th of September 2023.

The Chicago is part of the LIV Tour in the season 2023. In 2023 all players competing for a total prize money of USD 20,000,000 (Spieler).

Nearly midway through its 14-event 2024 season, LIV Golf has finally announced the host course for its regular season finale.

Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook, Illinois, 30 minutes outside of Chicago, will host the 2024 Individual Championship, Sept. 13-15, ending the league’s two-year relationship with Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

“It’s been decided that after two successful seasons at Rich Harvest Farms, the club’s membership will not have any disruptions to its play this year,” Rich Harvest Farms General Manager Jonathan Meagher told Golfweek. “We are pleased to see that LIV Golf continues to have an event in the Chicagoland area.”

Meagher also noted a LIV Golf to Rich Harvest Farms has not been ruled out for any year past 2024.

The 13th tournament of the season, the LIV Golf Chicago event will determine team seeds for the 2024 Team Championship (location to be announced), crown the season’s individual champion and solidify player status for 2025. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, May 8.

“The passionate sports fans of Chicago have embraced the intense competition and fan-first experience that LIV Golf delivers, and this year it will be an incredible setting for a high-stakes event as players battle it out for the individual title and a roster spot for 2025,” said Commissioner and CEO Greg Norman. “We’re thrilled to return to Illinois with an event at Bolingbrook Golf Club as we celebrate the season-long race and set the stage for the 2024 finale.”

For those unfamiliar with Bolingbrook Golf Club, the course was designed by architect Arthur Hills and his partner Steve Forrest, and features a 156-yard island green on the 15th hole.

This week the league will tee up its seventh event of the season at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, May 3-5.

DeChambeau Wins LIV Golf Chicago at Rich Harvest Farms

Bryson DeChambeau won the LIV Golf Chicago individual championship and the team title with an impressive final-round score of 8-under 63 at Rich Harvest Farms. This echoed his remarkable play at Greenbrier the previous month, where he secured his inaugural LIV Golf title with a stunning closing score of 58.

DeChambeau, who started the day eight strokes off the lead, finished at 13 under while Anirban Lahiri and Ripper GC’s Marc Leishman tied for second at 12 under. Leishman, who shot 66, took second-place points via the better final-round score than Lahiri, who shot 69.

“I just kept trying to hit as many fairways as I could and hit the irons close and make some putts,” DeChambeau said. “That’s ultimately just kind of what happens when I get on a roll. It just doesn’t stop. Kind of like, uh-oh, here comes the train.”

Cameron Smith posted a final round 3-under 69 to win the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational-Chicago at Rich Harvest Farms in west suburban Sugar Grove by three strokes over Dustin Johnson and Peter Uihlein. Smith won $4 million while Johnson and Uihlein each earned $1,812,500.

The LIV Golf event showcases an elite 12-team, 48-player roster, collectively boasting 25 major titles, all vying for the LIV Golf League Individual and Team Championships. Festivities for fans at LIV Golf Chicago kick off at 9:30 a.m. local time, as the gates open to welcome attendees of all ages to an array of unique on-site activities. Complimentary parking is available on all three days, leading up to the tournament’s 12:15 p.m. shotgun starts on Friday and Saturday, and a 12:05 p.m. start on Sunday.

This year, LIV Golf is elevating the spectator experience as it returns to the Chicago area, introducing the popular “Watering Hole” feature, previously a hit at LIV Golf Adelaide. This special area at Rich Harvest Farms amplifies the league’s “GOLF, BUT LOUDER” mantra, providing amphitheater-style seating from tee to green on the 17th par-3 hole. Attendees can enjoy live DJ music, player-chosen walk-up tunes, and introductions by iconic Chicago sports public address announcer Ray Clay.

Each event consists of three rounds with 54 holes and no cut, as well as shotgun starts to ensure a faster and more exciting pace. Fan research indicates a significant number of new fans would be enticed by a faster paced and shorter variation and non-traditional format of play. In year one, there were a max of 48 players on 12 four-man teams and a truly global field with golfers invited from all tours around the world to beta test the new format. LIV Golf Chicago Event Format

Captain : Each team has a LIV Golf-appointed team captain who has selected his squad. All members of the four-player teams, including the captain, participate in the three-day event.

Individual Winner : The player with the lowest 54-hole stroke play total is the winner. At the regular season’s end, the player with the most ranking points after seven events will be named the Individual Champion.

Team Competition : Over the first two rounds, the best two stroke-play scores will count for each team. For the third and final round, the best three scores will count. The lowest overall team score after 54 holes is the team winner.

LIV Golf Chicago Prize Money

The individual prize money pool was $20 million dollars for the LIV Golf Invitational Chicago in 2022, with the winner receiving $4 million, second place $2,125,000, third place $1,500,000 and fourth $1,050,000. Members of the winning team won $750,000, while the second place members will receive $375,000 and the third place team $125,000 a piece.

LIV Golf announces Chicago venue for individual finale

LIV Golf announced a new venue for its individual event outside of Chicago later this year.

On Tuesday Bolingbrook Golf Club was named host of LIV’s 13th event of the 2024 season. When the Saudi-backed circuit released its schedule last fall, Chicago was earmarked to receive an event, but was without a home course. Bolingbrook previously hosted a 2021 Forme Tour, the PGA Tour affiliated minor-league formed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide competition for non-Canadian PGA Tour Canada members.

Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove had hosted a LIV event the past two years in the Chicagoland area.

“The passionate sports fans of Chicago have embraced the intense competition and fan-first experience that LIV Golf delivers, and this year it will be an incredible setting for a high-stakes event as players battle it out for the individual title and a roster spot for 2025,” LIV commissioner and CEO Greg Norman said in a release. “We’re thrilled to return to Illinois with an event at Bolingbrook Golf Club as we celebrate the season-long race and set the stage for the 2024 finale.”

The Bolingbrook competition will see players compete for final positions in the individual standings and the title of 2024 LIV Golf individual champion. It will also determine team seedings for the 2024 Team Championship. The location of the LIV finale has yet to be announced.

Joaquin Niemann is currently atop the individual standings six events into the season, with Jon Rahm in second and Dean Burmester third. Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers are in the lead of the team component of LIV.

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - One of the most controversial subjects in sports is coming to the Chicagoland area this fall.

LIV Golf, a professional men's golf tour, announced league’s 2024 individual championship will play at Bolingbrook Golf Club in September 2024.

The event, the tour calls LIV Golf Chicago, is scheduled to play September 13-15. It will be the 13th tournament of LIV Golf’s 2024 season.

"The passionate sports fans of Chicago have embraced the intense competition and fan-first experience that LIV Golf delivers, and this year it will be an incredible setting for a high-stakes event as players battle it out for the individual title and a roster spot for 2025," Commissioner and CEO Greg Norman said in a statement. "We’re thrilled to return to Illinois with an event at Bolingbrook Golf Club as we celebrate the season-long race and set the stage for the 2024 finale."

This event also carries individual significance, as golfers are competing for final positions in the LIV individual standings and the title of 2024 LIV Golf League Individual Champion.

LIV Golf Chicago's results will also determine the team seeding for the 2024 Team Championship.

"We are excited to welcome the star-studded, international field of great players to The Village of Bolingbrook and Bolingbrook Golf Club," Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Basta said in a statement.

LIV Golf, which was founded in 2021 and played its first tournament in 2022, has become a direct rival to the PGA Tour circuit. Notable golfers like Dustin Johnson, Sergio García, Phil Mickelson, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel and Lee Westwood have all signed with LIV Golf since 2021.

However, the LIV Golf Tour is also one of the most controversial sports topics due to its background.

LIV Golf is owned by the Public Investment Fund, which is the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.

Since LIV Golf has expanded to include former world No. 1 rated golfers, it has been called out by human rights groups and other Congressional leaders. These leaders and groups point to the Saudi government's ties to the murder of the Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, human rights violations and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Tiger Woods gets special exemption to US Open at Pinehurst

Tiger Woods accepted a special exemption for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, the first time the three-time champion has needed an exemption to play.

Woods has been exempt for every U.S. Open since he first played in 1995 as the reigning U.S. Amateur champion. His five-year exemption from winning the 2019 Masters expired last year.

The exemption was expected and likely to be the first of many. The USGA is particular about who is exempt from qualifying, last awarding one in 2021 to Phil Mickelson.

Jack Nicklaus, with four U.S. Open titles among his 18 professional majors, received a record eight special exemptions, including five in a row until he stopped playing the U.S. Open after 2000 at Pebble Beach.

Arnold Palmer received five U.S. Open exemptions, the last one in 1994 when he returned to Oakmont near his hometown for a tearful farewell.

Woods won the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach by 15 shots, a record margin of victory for any major champion. He added another title in 2002 at Bethpage Black in New York, and he famously won his third U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in 2008 just a week before he had reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

“The U.S. Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career,” Woods said in a statement. "I’m honored to receive this exemption and could not be more excited for the opportunity to compete in this year’s U.S. Open, especially at Pinehurst, a venue that means so much to the game.”

The U.S. Open is June 13-16 at Pinehurst No. 2, which is staging the Open for the fourth time. Woods tied for third, two shots behind the late Payne Stewart, in 1999. He was runner-up at Pinehurst in 2005 to Michael Campbell. He missed the most recent Open at Pinehurst in 2014 while recovering from the first of what would be four back surgeries.

Woods has a long history with the USGA as the only player to win the U.S. Junior Amateur three straight times, followed by the U.S. Amateur three straight times. His nine USGA championships are matched only by amateur great Bobby Jones.

Woods earlier this year was selected to receive the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor from the USGA.

“The story of the U.S. Open could not be written without Tiger Woods,” said John Bodenhamer, the USGA's chief championships officer. ”From his 15-stroke victory at Pebble Beach in 2000 to his inspiring win on a broken leg at Torrey Pines in 2008, this championship is simply better when Tiger is in the field, and his accomplishments in the game undoubtedly made this an easy decision for our special exemption committee.”

It will be the first time Woods competes in the U.S. Open since Winged Foot in 2020, held in September before no fans because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He crashed his car in Los Angeles and badly injured his right leg and ankle in February 2021, causing him to miss the U.S. Open's return to Torrey Pines. While he returned to competition a year later, the U.S. Open at Brookline in 2022 was the only major he didn't play. A year ago, Woods had surgery to fuse his right ankle after the Masters and did not play the rest of the year, missing the U.S. Open's debut at Los Angeles Country Club.

Woods last contended at the U.S. Open in 2010 at Pebble Beach, where he shot 66 in the third round but then closed with a 75 and tied for fourth.

He is expected to play in the PGA Championship in two weeks at Valhalla, where he won in 2000 on his way to capturing all four majors consecutively. Woods said during a round of appearances on NBC shows earlier this week to promote his clothing line that his plan was to play the remaining three majors.

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- There will be a new venue for LIV Golf's visit to the Chicago area this year.

The league announced Tuesday that the Bolingbrook Golf Club will host the league's 2024 Individual Championship. It takes place Sept. 13 to 15.

The course features a 156-yard island green on its signature 15th hole.

LIV Golf's global field features 14 major champions as well as many of the sport's biggest names, including Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson, a news release from the league said.

The event will be the 13th tournament of LIV Golf's 2024 season. Players will compete for final positions in the individual standings and the title of 2024 LIV Golf League Individual Champion and also determine team seedings for the 2024 Team Championship.
