Why? Because it’s there.

Opportunities for challenging hikes and pleasant strolls are scattered all over this planet; you just need to know where to find them. We do. Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, Patagonia, and the Inca Trail are out there, waiting for you to walk all over them. We’re proud of our record of successful ascents (over 92% of our travellers make it to the top of Kili, depending on the route), but it’s our CEOs and local guides that make the journey itself as memorable as the summit. And if you’re not into big climbs, don’t sweat it; we’ve got loads of lower-impact walks and iconic treks you’ll love, too.

Hiking & trekking faq, will the altitude affect us.

In the higher altitudes, the air is thinner than you would normally find in the atmosphere at sea level, where most of us live. Although everyone will experience the altitude differently and to varying degrees, slow and steady is always the order of the day. The more time you give yourself to acclimatize to high-altitude environments, the easier your climb will be.

What will we eat?

To get you going every day, you’ll need lots of energy, and our cooks make sure there’s plenty of healthy, quality food at hand. Our team of porters carries all the supplies where necessary, including fresh produce. Meals consist of local and international cuisine, and while special requests can almost always be accommodated, it is wise to inform us in advance.

Will I have to share my accommodation?

Unless you book the “My Own Room/Tent” option, yes, you’ll be bunking with someone else. Space on the mountains and trails is at a premium, so be prepared to share your lodgings with trekkers who aren’t travelling with your group and possibly members of the opposite sex. Mountain accommodations usually feature shared toilets and washing facilities.

Where will we sleep?

It depends! Some treks involve full-service camping experiences where all the equipment is provided, including sleeping mats (all you need to bring is your sleeping bag and pillow). Tents are always of high quality and vary according to the specific environmental conditions of your chosen trek. Other treks involve mountain huts with single beds.

Who carries the gear?

On the majority of our trips, our expert staff carries all the supplies and equipment (including food for hearty, delicious meals). All you have to do is carry your own stuff, stay hydrated, and focus on is putting one foot in front of the other. On some of the tougher hikes, you will need to carry all your gear for some periods. But the views and surroundings will be worth it.

What else will we do?

Few experiences open up the heart, lungs, and mind quite like hiking in a new place. When you go with us, you won’t just climb the mountain; you’ll meet the people who live on and around it and come away with a greater sense of alpine life. On several of our treks, we've allowed free days for you to experience the best of the culture of the country you are visiting. There's more to most places than just the hiking!

Who’s leading the way?

Our guides, sherpas and porters have all hiked their respective hills for years, and they’re well-versed in all the tricks you need to master them. They’ll help you with your pack, keep you motivated, and coax you through the rougher spots with care and compassion.

I’ve never trekked before. Is that a problem?

You don’t have to be an elite endurance athlete to enjoy a day’s exercise abroad. Many of our Active itineraries are built for the first-time active traveller and offer a more relaxed – but still active – experience. You don’t have to be a high-endurance athlete, just someone who’s in good, healthy shape. And if you’re unsure whether a trek is right for you, simply ask us and we’ll get you sorted out.

HIKING TOURS IN THE USA

While ryder-walker focuses on exploring the absolute best alpine experiences that international travel has to offer, we would be remiss not to also offer what we consider to be the best of the magical hiking in the united states, all of which happens to be in our company’s backyard in the desert southwest. whether exploring the soaring peaks of colorado or the mysterious canyons and desert vistas of arizona, utah and new mexico, you get the chance to experience some of our country’s most sublime and untouched wilderness.  .

Ryder-Walker’s guided Rocky Mountain High Life: Aspen to Telluride trek adventures high into the mountains of Colorado. 13,000 feet high! The home of Ryder-Walker’s office, these mountains have been close to our company for decades and offer hiking that rivals the best the Alps have to offer. The Colorado Rockies are a stunning mountain range with craggy peaks that rise above 14,000 feet, bohemian towns tucked into the mountains such as Crested Butte and Telluride , and high alpine lakes which are a truly brilliant blue. Our journey begins in Aspen, perhaps the most famous of Colorado destinations, as we explore beneath the brooding faces of the Maroon Bell mountains and enjoy the lively village at Aspen. From Aspen, we continue to Crested Butte, a mountain town centered around The Butte, a lone mountain that rises from the Colorado plains. To this day Crested Butte is Colorado’s best-kept secret . Finally, we journey to Telluride, the home of Ryder-Walker!

For self guided hikers that want to explore the vibrant mountains of Colorado we recommend our Telluride: The Switzerland of America hike. This route focuses on the area surrounding Telluride Colorado, unambiguously the most dramatic and wild section of the Colorado wilderness, and the home to Ryder-Walker and many of its guides. Visitors to this magnificent region will get to experience the same beauty and western charm that have kept us in the region for decades!

Ryder-Walker’s trips through the desert southwest of America are some of our company’s in-house favorites, and explore the region where many of the guides spend their own vacation time! In both New Mexico and Utah we travel to all of our favorite locations in the desert. Whether they are hidden local haunts or world-class hiking destinations like Moab , the mystery and charm of the desert southwest are guaranteed to provide a profound experience – especially for those new to the stunning region. The southwest still hides many secrets, including ancient trails that lead to Anasazi cliff dwellings and hidden waterfall canyons

New Mexico: Santa Fe to Taos , which we also offer as a self guided hike, travels between the desert and the mountains in New Mexico. You get to enjoy the unique experience of leaving the desert trading city of Santa-Fe and wander upwards as the climate dramatically changes from rolling hills to the high mountains surrounding Taos. Santa Fe is a reason to visit New Mexico in itself, boasting world-class restaurants , art-crawls , and outdoor markets , Santa Fe truly feels like a gem of the wild west!

Sedona, Arches, & Canyonlands is our true desert trek that explores the heart of Utah’s national parks, including Arches, Canyonlands, and Bears Ears National Monument. Arches is an incredible testament to natural beauty with its twisting sandstone formations . Canyonlands include hundreds of miles of wandering canyons some of which are still only rarely explored. Finally, The Bears Ears National Monument is the United States’ youngest National Monument, which has been protected to preserve the historic remnants of the Anasazi people which are hidden deep within the ultra-remote desert that Bears Ears encompasses.   Every step in this alien landscape provides another surprise or delight. There is nowhere else on earth quite like Utah, and we strongly believe that it is important for every person to experience this truly different section of the US at least once in their life.

GUIDED HIKING AND TREKKING TRIPS AROUND ICELAND

Our Iceland hiking and trekking tours offer extraordinary experiences in remote locations and breathtaking landscapes. Discover the most scenic hikes in off-radar locations in the Land of Ice and Fire!

ABOUT OUR HIKING AND TREKKING TOURS IN ICELAND

Nature is what keeps Iceland on the top of endless travel lists, while its secluded geographical location helps preserve the unspoiled vistas.

Iceland offers a plethora of unique landscapes like no other place in the world, providing fantastic opportunities for memorable trekking trips. From moss-covered lava fields to jagged glaciers and majestic volcanoes – the list of one-of-a-kind locations goes on. A hiking trip is an ideal chance to venture deep into the pristine panoramas of nature reserves and national parks to witness unfettered geothermal powers and ancient ice masses.

There are some trekking and hiking tours in Iceland available all year round, which is a perfect opportunity to see the dramatc landscapes. These tours take hiking experiences to a whole different level as you ascend Iceland’s most iconic glaciers, marvel over steaming hot springs, or walk up to volcanic areas .

WHERE DO OUR HIKING TOURS TAKE PLACE?

We offer a wide range of hiking tours across Iceland to suit a variety of fitness levels and offer insight into different parts of the country. Where you choose to hike will impact the kinds of landscapes you’ll discover, the terrain you’ll encounter, and, therefore, the difficulty of your hiking trip.

THORSMORK VALLEY

One of the best places for hiking in Iceland is Thorsmork Valley . The Thorsmork hiking trail offers an optimal experience to see the distinct seasonal scenery in Iceland. From the budding spring and leafy summer to colorful autumn and snowy winter, the mountain top will give you a panoramic view of glaciers , rivers, and streams glistering against the black sand in the sun. The acclaimed “Valley of Thor” is nothing but splendid , the ideal place for a hiking trip.

Stakkholtsgjá canyon in Þórsmörk

Located in the Southern Highlands, Thorsmork is about 150 km from Reykjavik and 100 km from Selfoss. When driving over gravelly terrain as you do in the Highlands, it is vital to have a capable automobile and an experienced driver. Self-driving requires a 4X4 vehicle with river crossing insurance coverage. Booked tours usually take on the adventure with a super jeep. Anyone visiting the valley will need a similar vehicle to cross the powerful Krossá River.

Hiking in Thorsmork can be challenging but exciting at the same time. Available from April to October, the Fimmvorduhals trail is popular for running events and hiking tours.

Review our blog with all the information you need on what to wear in Iceland . On your way to Thorsmork, you will also be able to take a glance at the famous volcano Eyjafjallajökull, which interrupted European and international air travel in 2010. Two new craters, Magni and Móði, were created that year near this area. They were named after the sons of Thor. The Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of the most photogenic streams in Iceland, will also be on your route. These are all part of what you will see when you are hiking or trekking in Thorsmork Valley – the Icelandic geographic miracle.

LANDMANNALAUGAR, ICELANDIC HIGHLANDS

Landmannalaugar is a nature reserve that constantly reminds you of the beauty of our planet Earth. The best way to see this vast wilderness is on foot. Located in southern Iceland, the 190 km (118 mi) drive from Reykjav í k requires a 4WD vehicle that will eventually be necessary to power through this mountainous area.

trekking tours i

The Highlands are the home to multiple hiking trails that attract countless outdoor enthusiasts:

  • Laugavegur trail
  • Brennisteinsalda Mountain trail, also called the Sulphur Wave trail
  • Blahnjukur Mountain trail, known as the Blue Peak trail
  • Ljótipollur trial, meaning Ugly Puddle trail
  • Hellismannaleið trail
  • Sprengisandur trail

Laugavegur hiking trail is most popular among both local and international hikers. Every summer, you will see backpackers trekking on this route with the incomparable landscape passing on both sides. One of the wonderful things about this area is that you can choose from short, beginner-level hikes, or opt for an all-out rugged Icelandic trekking tour. If you are curious about this route, check out the full guide to hiking Laugavegur trail in Iceland.

The Brennisteinsalda Mountain “Sulphur Wave” trail is another iconic route. The two-hour hike is never monotonous marching on a tundra. The juxtaposition of greenish moss and maroon hills with the backdrop of dark lava and ash fields transforms this hike into an intense visual treat. The well-known Laugahraun lava field with its lustrous colors and rough texture is a must-visit. This path is one of the most highly recommended trails for hikers in Iceland.

Next to Mt.Brennisteinsalda is Mt. Blahnjukur, known for the Blue Peak trai l which leads the hikers all the way up to the 940 m (3,084 ft) top where five glaciers are visible on a good, clear day.

Man Standing on Cliff at Landmannalaugar Mountains

In addition to several other trails in this area, the Landmannalaugar Highland region provides a paradise where you will witness nature’s miraculous design. The tours can be either a one-day hike or a multi-day trek . Also, always remember to bring your bathing suit. The abundant natural hot springs in this area will welcome you with a therapeutic treatment after a long day of hiking.

There are many possible and wonderful routes when you hike in Iceland, and the Landmannalaugar hiking tours a re without a doubt amongst the most beautiful . If you are an eager hiking enthusiast who has come this far from another time zone to visit Iceland, then it is inexcusable that you miss this area of untouched nature.

KERLINGARFJÖLL MOUNTAIN RANGE

Kerlingarfjöll Mountain Range is located within the remote Icelandic wilderness, deep within the Highlands. This location offers incomparable hiking and trekking experiences, taking visitors through geothermal valleys, snow fields, and glacial rivers.

trekking tours i

The name “Kerlingarfjöll” is a combination of two Icelandic words: “Kerling,” which means “an old lady,” and “fjöll,” meaning “the mountain.” It is no surprise that this name comes from a legend (like many other famous names in Iceland). The legend says that there was once a woman troll passing through the area who was turned into stone by the morning sun. You can still see her column while hiking through the area.

The Icelandic highlands, where this mountain range is located, is an uninhabited region in central Iceland. Kerlingarfjöll is approximately 10,000 years old and was formed as a result of volcanic activity in the region. This area offers a beautiful mixture of geothermal hot springs and colorful rhyolite mountains. Kerlingarfjöll is often compared to the famous Landmannalaugar, a hiking area with rhyolite mountains. If you’re looking for a less popular (but still beautiful) option, the Kerlingarfjöll hiking tour might be the perfect choice!

Glymur Waterfall

Iceland is famous for its waterfalls in all forms and sizes. The variety of roaring cascades scattered throughout the country is nothing short of amazing. Among the astonishing waterfalls in Iceland, Glymur was once the highest of all.

Glymur Waterfall in Iceland

Hiking to Glymur and back usually takes two to three hours. Both the north and south sides are good for observing the waterfall, but the south side is recommended since it faces the cascade. And it will be even more charming when the weather creates the conditions for a rainbow.

In Iceland, hiking is a stunning combination of beautiful for the eyes and illuminating for the mind. Hiking to Glymur is no different. Its location in Hvalfjordur (Whale Fjord), West Iceland, offers diverse scenery with an endless green sprawling all over the land, and a lava cave where you can spot the water stream and mountain ranges from inside. The Glymur Waterfall hike is also a perfect day tour if you are planning to relax for the evening back in Reykjavík.

Snæfellsjökull Glacier

Situated at the western point of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula , Snæfellsjökull G lacier is bestowed with a majestic view of land and ocean. Its peak reaches 1,446 m (4,744 ft) above sea level. When clouds are passing low overhead, it’s possible to pass through the clouds to reach the peak! When you reach the top, the view will prove the worth of all the effort you’ve put into your hiking trip. You can even see the east coast of Greenland in superb visibility. The ice, the sky, the ocean, and the top of other mountains will all feature in your panoramic view. It is the most pristine glacier in Iceland.

Snaefellsjokull Glacier Summit in Iceland

Snæfellsjökull glacier gained international fame after the movie “Journey to the Center of the Earth” in 2008. Aside from the fictional narrative in the movie, the glacier itself shares a similar mysterious spirit. It is a beautifully shaped volcano with a white cap, and people living on the Northwest coast of Iceland's capital region can sometimes see its vision. It is a 700,000-year-old volcano that fills the imagination of those who are poetic and brave.

Hiking to the glacier summit usually takes three to five hours depending on the weather. If your route begins in the small fishing village of Arnarstapi, the hiking distance to the peak is 7-8 km (4.3-4.9 mi ). There will be crevasses and other potential dangers along the way, so a professional guide on the team is the best way to remain as safe as possible . An adventurous glacier hiking experience like this one needs a team that works together , making glacier hiking a unique and incredible activity. That’s what is unique about glacier hikes . It pulls you away from daily normality and puts you in extraordinary conditions. It reminds you that while humans are capable, we are vulnerable.

Iceland’s high latitude has formed some of the largest glaciers in the world. Before Snæfellsjökull, there are 12 other glaciers that are larger. Vatnajökull glacier is the largest in Iceland and in Europe. Global warming presents problems to many glaciers in the world. In August 2012, the summit of Snæfellsjökull glacier was free of ice for the first time in recorded history. And Vatnajökull glacier has been shrinking at an alarming rate too. Although it’s not under imminent change, the natural magnificence needs to be well-protected.

Reykjadalur Geothermal Area

Reykjadalur (which translates to “steam valley”) Geothermal Area is a live demonstration of the earth's energy. When you travel on the Ring R oad from Reykjav í k 45 km (28 mi) to the south, you will see a sweeping view of the Hellisheiði M ountains with numerous ribbons of steam coming out of the ground. That’s when you know Reykjadalur is close.

Reykjadalur Hot Spring in Iceland

Before you can relax in the hot spring river, you ’ll need to hike 3 km (1.86 mi ) to get there. This is not a challenging walk but is nonetheless a stunning experience. Meandering between valleys in this area before taking a dip in the hot spring river in the middle of the wilderness is an unforgettable day out . The nature of hiking in Reykjadalur is more recreational than athletic, making it a suitable activity for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Along the way, you will see a small canyon called Djupagil and a babbling waterfall known as Djupagilsfoss. The hot steam emits a sulfur smell. If you are willing to walk further north beyond the common hot bath point, you will see the mineral-painted rocks and ground. It is an absolute relaxation experience for the senses,  with a symphony of colors, sounds, and smells.

Another beloved thing to do in this area is to get to know the Icelandic horses. Icelanders are very proud of what their horses can do – the noteworthy gait tölt. They are good at crossing rough terrain and are skillful with their footwork – they can do five gaits! This attracts quite a lot of curious visitors to ride on horseback for this exotic experience. That’s why riding horseback in the Reykjadalur area is so popular.

Aerial view of Hveragerdi city in Iceland

Hikers and visitors usually start their day in the nearby town named Hveragerdi . The town has beautiful greenhouses and even the largest banana plantation in Europe. Hveragerdi also has options for your last-minute preparations before venturing into Reykjadalur Valley for further activities. There are several restaurants, shops where you can buy woolen inner layers and hiking outfits, and a museum with the “Quake 2008” exhibition that displays and simulates the damage of the earthquake in May 2008 in South Iceland.

Iceland is known for its dynamic geology. Starting about 24 million years ago, the divergent boundary of the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates began to create an island under the ocean. Eventually, the oldest rock in Iceland emerged above the ocean surface,  16 – 18 million years ago. The movement from the two plates sliding apart constantly releases energy and shapes the island nation with volcanos, ice caves, steam, geysers, and waterfalls. These endless geological activities make Iceland a huge geothermal hotbed. In contrast with the hotspot activities, the near-Arctic latitude bestowed Iceland with glaciers, cool air, and temperamental weather. Altogether, it molds the ultimate harmony of fire and ice on an island standing alone in the North Atlantic. Even more miraculous is that you can actually see and touch the two continents when you visit Silfra Fissure .

Iceland, therefore, became the unparalleled choice when you desire intimacy with our planet. And hiking is only the beginning of getting to know how wonderful it is to be in Iceland.

Other Hiking Places

In addition to the more far-off locations for long and rustic trekking tours in Iceland, there are also quite a few opportunities for hiking near Reykjavik.

Heidmork Nature Reserve, located on the outskirts of Reykjavik, is a popular hiking location for the locals. It is also a backdrop for many Icelandic photographers. Although the mossy land is not to be stepped on due to its fragility, looking at it nearby is also relishing. In winter, when Heiðmörk is covered by snow, you can also join the locals for cross-country skiing.

Besides Heiðmörk, Mt. Esja is another favorite weekend destination among the residents of the capital region. Two of the best-known hiking trails are Þverfellshorn (780m / 2559 ft ) and Kerhólakambur (851m / 2792 ft ). There are marks along the way for hikers and climbers. If you are not a very experienced hiker, the point to turn back is usually by the sight of a huge rock named Stein at 597m (1959 ft) high.

For more information, check our full list of top hiking trails in Iceland.

View from mountain Esja in Iceland

The highest point of Esja is Hábunga, which reaches 914 m (2,999 ft) above sea level. This requires another 3km-or-1.86 mile-climbing northeast. Your efforts will be rewarded by the breathtaking view of the cityscapes fragmented by the curving roads extending to the horizon.

If hiking in Heiðmörk is too easy and the Esja trail is a bit too challenging, there is one spot that offers a happy medium – the lesser-known but totally beautiful Mt. Helgafell in Hafnarfjörður. It is only 340 m (1115 ft) high, which makes the hiking fun and easy, plus it doesn’t get much better than the view at the top when the moonlight falls and the city lights turn on.

If you are traveling to East Iceland , there are several hiking trails definitely worth trying:

  • Storurd , a remote valley located in Mt. Dyrfjoll; the trail takes five to seven hours to finish and the elevation gain is estimated at 600m (1968 ft).
  • Mt Snaefell , the hiking trail starts from the Snaefellsskali Hut, a small mountain hut at the foot of  Mt Snaefell; it takes six to seven hours to the top and is suitable for experienced hikers.
  • Skalanes , this is a three-hour relaxed walk across a diverse nature reserve of grassland, waterfalls, seashores, and beaches; for those who are interested in Iceland’s culture and heritage, the nearby village and farm are also good to visit.

Visitors from densely urbanized areas are often amazed by the vicinity of nature in Iceland. There is no need to make too much effort when you plan to spend quality time in the scenic countryside because it is simply everywhere.

WHY CHOOSE A HIKING TOUR?

Iceland is known for its abundance of natural wonders and hiking trails. In addition, hiking is one of the most accessible ways to explore the wild landscapes and remote locations around the country. So why should you choose a guided hiking or trekking tour rather than setting off on your own?

  • Getting Around - The majority of our hiking tours offer pick-up from Reykjavík and drop-off back to your hotel or nearby. This can take a lot of work off of your plate, particularly when you have your heart set on a few hours of hiking in Iceland’s Highlands. Booking a hiking tour allows you to focus your energy on taking in the beautiful sights that await you around every bend.
  • Safety First - You will be in safer hands exploring Iceland’s wilderness on one of our hiking tours than by yourself. This includes on Iceland’s roads, where difficult terrain can prove challenging to inexperienced drivers, as well as on foot. While hiking is a relatively safe activity, your guide will ensure you are never lost and always take the safest routes to some spectacular views.
  • Expert Guides - While you can read up and take all the maps with you, you will likely not amass the same amount of insider knowledge that our local tour guides will know. This means that you’ll learn fascinating pieces of information, avoid the crowds, and learn a lot more about your environment on a guided hiking tour.
  • Small Group - Our small group tours ensure that you’re always in safe hands. Not only will the paths feel less crowded, but you can also find like-minded people to talk to and share this unique experience with.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TREK OR HIKE

With such a range of tours available, the choices can seem a little overwhelming! If you’re struggling to decide on the tour that you want to partake in, you should ask yourself some questions to determine the right option for you.

  • How long are you spending in Iceland? We can offer hiking explorations in one day, two days, or trekking across several days. How long you have to spend in Iceland will, without a doubt, narrow down your hiking tour options.
  • Who are you traveling with? If you’re traveling to Iceland with your whole family, you will likely want a shorter hiking experience to make it as accessible as possible for children.
  • How experienced at hiking are you? While most of our hikes are accessible for all fitness levels, multi-day trekking experiences are more of an intense experience for those who have never done so before. Consider this before diving into the deep end!
  • What are your priorities in Iceland? If hiking is the one item on your Iceland bucket list, you can really throw yourself into the Highlands, such as with our 8-Day Laugavegur Trek . However, if you’d like more variety, our combination tours are a better choice for you - for example, our 4-Day Golden Circle, South Coast, and Landmannalaugar tour offers a well-rounded experience.

HIKING TOUR SAFETY INFORMATION

As Icelanders are very outdoorsy, hiking is a basic activity that is done solo or in a group. The outdoor facilities in Iceland are well established. Areas such as Thorsmork Valley and Landmannalaugar have huts available for temporary use to hikers and trekkers. However, since unpredictable weather could result in harsh conditions, as a traveler, it’s always good to have a companion on the road. If you’re traveling alone, it’s necessary to update your itinerary on safetravel.is so that rescue teams can quickly locate you in case of an emergency. Preparation for hiking in Iceland is key.

When you travel to Iceland, it’s useful to pack swimming suits and bath towels. Iceland abounds in hot springs, so you need to be prepared for a likely chance to immerse yourself in the warm water and be able to dry yourself afterwards. This is also a fun side of hiking in Iceland, as besides just walking on a trail, there are so many other things to experience along the way. However, you need to be careful when choosing a hot spring for your relaxing soak, as some of them can be too hot to bathe in! In order to stay safe, it’s always better to think twice before acting in wild surroundings.

What to pack for hiking in Iceland?

Bringing the right equipment is the key to a safe and successful hike. As the weather in Iceland can change very quickly, your packing list must be thought-through.

What to wear on a hiking tour in Iceland?

Your clothing must fit certain criteria and be comfortable. Clothes such as jeans and sneakers are not appropriate for a hiking tour. Layering is the key to avoiding getting too cold or too hot on your hiking trip. Check out our comprehensive head-to-toe clothing guide  to help you get ready for your adventure.

What if I don’t have all the required hiking equipment?

Don’t worry, you can always rent sturdy hiking shoes, a waterproof jacket, and pants in the booking process or add them to your booking list. Please keep in mind that we do not rent gear on location.

What should I do if I'm having trouble with payment while booking my tour?

If you're having trouble booking your tour, please note that we accept payments in Canadian Dollars (CAD), American Dollars (USD), British Pounds (GBP), Euros (EUR), and Icelandic Króna (ISK). Start by checking with your credit card provider to ensure they allow payments in your selected currency.

Sometimes, your credit card company may need to pre-authorize the transaction before you can complete your booking online.

If you're still facing issues while trying to book through our website, please reach out to our Customer Care Team . We’re here to help you!

How do I start hiking in Iceland?

Firstly, read carefully the details of your tour and keep in mind our  difficulty ratings . After you’ve chosen your tour, it’s essential to pack the required equipment needed, which can vary greatly from season to season. You might also want to check the  weather forecast in Iceland , but keep in mind that the weather is still quite unpredictable.

Can I hike in Iceland without tours? Is it dangerous to hike alone?

Hiking in Iceland alone is possible, bu t v isitors should always stay within the limits of designated areas and paths for walking and driving. You should also keep in mind that some attractions, such as ice caves can be too dangerous to visit alone and therefore inaccessible without a guide. Never attempt to access closed or private areas. Always treat beautiful Icelandic nature with respect and remember to follow important rules such as no walking on the moss, no off-road driving , and no stepping o n iceberg s.

Is it safe to walk on glaciers in Iceland?

It is very dangerous and absolutely not recommended to walk on glaciers on your own. Hiking on glaciers requires special skills, equipment, and knowledge. Our expert guides undergo special training and therefore it is much safer to explore this natural wonder with s pecialists.

Thinking about joining Timberline on a guided hiking tour ? Here’s what you need to know.

First, let’s talk accommodations . All of our hiking tours are inn-to-inn, meaning you’ll be spending nights at magnificent national park lodges or inns distinct to the area. The benefit of day hiking is that guests can carry light packs with just the day’s supplies: extra clothes, food and water. On the other hand, w hen we’re lucky enough to overnight at a backcountry lodge, guests will need to carry a bit more.

Secondly, its important to note hiking difficulty. Our daily distances range from 4-16 miles. The hallmark of our hiking tours is embracing challenging terrain; however, we do offer tours for a range of abilities. Our moderate tours average 6-7 miles per day, energetic tours average 8-12 miles a day, and the most challenging tours include at least one day of high mileage and strenuous terrain. This being said, occasionally tours will have an alternate activity day with no hiking.

Kilimanjaro Tours & Treks

Hikers getting ready to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on a sunny day

Africa’s tallest peak creates an instantly recognizable silhouette.

Rising from the acacia forests and scrublands at the border of Kenya and Tanzania . At 19,343ft, the world’s tallest freestanding mountain can seem imposing, but that doesn’t mean it’s out of reach. Our Kilimanjaro tours are made to suit your experience and fitness levels, getting you to the summit with the best team possible. The climb will be challenging! But when you sit at the summit with the sprawling savanna far below, you realize the simple truth: it was all worth it.

Our Kilimanjaro trips

Let's create an exclusive trip for your group.

Which route is right for you?

Despite being longer and more arduous than the Marangu and Rongai trails, the Machame route has emerged in recent years as a popular choice for trekkers. The 25 miles trail passes through cloud forests and moorland zones to the glaciated precipices of Kibo’s south face. Unlike the Marangu and Rongai routes, trekkers descend via the Mweka route – a steep but scenic path through dry mountain desert and lowland forest.

A trail that winds along the north-eastern side of the mountain near the Kenyan border, Rongai offers up a different side to Africa’s most famous mountain. The route attracts a lower number of climbers than Marangu and Machame, which means the wilderness feels particularly pristine. Fewer people mean there’s a greater chance of seeing wildlife on the Rongai trail than on the other routes. This route also approaches Mount Kilimanjaro through rural heartlands, allowing trekkers to see Chagga village life.

This five-day climb is the most popular and direct of the Kilimanjaro routes, passing through vast grasslands, giant cacti fields and alpine meadows set against dramatic mountain peaks. It’s also the only route where camping is not needed, with trekkers sleeping in huts dotted along the way. The 22 mile uphill walk is well maintained and the views from the summit are striking. As the Marangu route is shorter, the period to acclimatize is also shortened and this has an impact on the trail's overall success rate.

Why choose us

Our Kilimanjaro trek leaders have been voted among the best Intrepid Group leaders in the world and we have a leading reputation within the travel industry.

All our guides and trek leaders have been trained by independent, UK-based medical specialists and are proficient in first aid. They also carry oxygen cylinders on all treks for emergency use.

Our staff live and work in the Mount Kilimanjaro area, which means revenue from all our treks benefit the local economy.

There’s no hidden costs or ‘catches’ in our prices. All tours include sleeping bags, sleeping mat, camping and safety equipment, emergency oxygen and porterage of 1 bag (up to 33lbs). We also include Kilimanjaro National Park entrance fees, climbing fees, camping and hut fees, and insurance for rescue services (just in case!)

Each of our treks begin with a briefing from our experienced English-speaking guide. On the road we operate on a 2:1 principle – that means we have one guide for every two climbers. Your crew will also be joined by dedicated cooks and porters.

We strive to use travel as a force for good. That’s why we choose to give back to the communities we visit, carbon offset all our trips and take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. We’ve been officially certified as the world’s largest travel B Corp, which means when you choose Intrepid Travel, you can rest assured you’re traveling to improve the planet.

Kilimanjaro travel FAQs

Are there age restrictions for trekking mount kilimanjaro.

The regulations for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro specify a minimum age of 10 years, with no maximum age, however all Intrepid travelers are required to be over 15 years old.

While there is no maximum age for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, it is important to remember that the climb is strenuous and presents health risks, especially to people in high risk categories.

Serious consideration should be given to anyone under the age of 18 and over the age of 60.

Will the altitude affect me?

The summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is above 19,000 feet. At this altitude it’s common for travelers to experience some adverse health effects – regardless of your age, gender or fitness. It even happened to Sir Edmund Hillary!

Everyone will adapt to the altitude and thinning air differently. This is why we always try to keep the ascent slow and steady, to allow your body to acclimatize and make your journey to the summit easier.

Some pre-existing medical conditions are known to severely worsen at high altitude and be difficult to adequately treat on the ground, leading to more serious consequences. It is imperative that you discuss your pre-existing medical condition/s with your doctor.

What will I eat?

To reach the summit you’re going to need the right fuel, which is why our cooks will be providing delicious and nutritious meals throughout your trek.

Our porters carry all the equipment and supplies we need and you’ll be treated to some local dishes.

We can accommodate food allergies and dietary requests but please tell us when you book.

It’s also a good idea to bring your own extra comfort snacks from home to keep your energy levels up during more difficult sections of the trail.

What will I drink?

While on the trek, your guides will boil and cool 0.6 gallons of water for you per day. This will ensure the water is safe to drink and you stay hydrated on the trek.

We recommend you pack 3 x 0.2 gallon refillable water bottles. Please note disposable plastic containers are not allowed on the mountain.

Where will I sleep on Mount Kilimanjaro?

Your accommodation will vary depending on the route you choose.

On the Machame and Rongai route you’ll be camping out under the stars with a full-service camping experience.

You don’t need to bring anything except your enthusiasm. Our two-person tents are ideal for expedition trips and feature a flysheet made from ripstop nylon, anti-mosquito netting, reflective guy ropes and a 3000mm waterhead, ensuring you stay warm and dry even in difficult conditions.

If you choose to trek the Marangu route you’ll enjoy basic but comfortable accommodation in wooden A-frame huts with single beds and simple mattresses.

Due to limited accommodation on the mountain, you may need to share a hut with non-Intrepid passengers and/or members of the opposite sex.

These sleeping huts are not equipped with facilities however there are seperate bathroom huts containing shared toilets and washing facilities.

What if I’ve never trekked before?

Although no mountaineering experience is required, a good level of physical fitness is necessary. You’ll need to be comfortable walking 6-8 hours uphill a day.

The distances may not be long but the altitude makes it harder than your average uphill hike.

We recommend increasing your aerobic exercise in the months leading up to the climb, such as by walking, running or climbing stairs.

There is plenty of time available each day to get between huts or camping sites so there is no need to rush, in fact the slower you go the more time your body has to adapt and the more you’ll enjoy the experience.

What should I pack for Mount Kilimanjaro?

Although a guide will always accompany you on the trail, you are unlikely to see your porter (as they are very fast!) except at the huts or the camps. Therefore it is important you carefully pack a smaller day pack you carry yourself. Anything you need during the course of the day should be in your day pack including, most importantly, something warm and something waterproof.

From 2019 your maximum gear allowance is 20 lbs. At the welcome meeting you will be provided with a duffel/kit bag to transfer your hiking luggage into. This waterproof bag minimizes the weight your porter needs to carry and allows you to store excess luggage at the hotel.

Light clothing is generally sufficient until you reach the 12-14,000 feet altitude range provided you always have something warm and waterproof in your daypack. Beyond these altitudes, even if the mornings are glorious, you must always be ready for dramatic changes in the weather, including snow storms. You must have clothing with you in your daypack adequate to the conditions. Please ensure your day pack is large enough to carry these clothes, your lunch box, 0.6 gallons of water and any other items such as camera equipment. Warm clothing is important for the final ascent. The ascents are done at night and this is when the coldest temperatures are experienced. You must be prepared for temperatures of minus 13 Fahrenheit. As a rule you should wear two pairs of socks, two-three layers on the legs and four-five layers on top. A balaclava or neck gaiter and woolly hat are necessary to keep the head warm, while gloves and sunglasses are also needed.

Note: the bag the porter carries for you should not exceed 20 lbs. If bags are too heavy items may have to be removed or the climber may choose to hire an additional porter.

When is the best time to visit Mount Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro's location near the equator is a great advantage, with very little seasonal variation in climbing conditions.

The rainy seasons from March to May and November to December may make the track a little slippery.

Generally speaking, January, February and September are considered the best times to climb the mountain.

What will the weather be like at Mount Kilimanjaro?

Part of what makes Kilimanjaro so unique is the diversity of ecosystems and micro-climates on its slopes. This same benefit is what makes predicting conditions a challenge.

You should trek expecting everything from tropical rainforests to sub-zero landscapes. The weather is prone to shift without warning and it is best to be prepared for all possibilities.

What are the toilet facilities like at Mount Kilimanjaro?

In a word? Improving. Until recently the toilet facilities left much to be desired but thankfully the park authorities have started to tackle the problem.

Some state-of-the-art eco-toilets have now been built at the major campsites.

There is the option to arrange a toilet tent for the entire trip. Please speak to your booking agent about the cost of this service.

What is the average success rate for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro?

The success of each climb is dependent on a number of varying factors, such as the weather on Mount Kilimanjaro and the age and fitness of each trekker. With that said we have achieved a success rate of 75% to Uhuru Peak across our three climbing routes.

Do your mountain guides carry first aid kits?

Yes. We carry multiple, comprehensive first aid kits and our mountain guides are fully trained on their use. All of our mountain guides are first-aid qualified.

Are your mountain guides trained to recognize symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)?

Absolutely! Intrepid have invested in the highest standards of training of any operator on Kilimanjaro. This includes advanced altitude training delivered by a UK doctor and altitude research specialist. One of the key elements of this is training on the Lake Louise altitude assessment system, which allows our mountain guides to effectively monitor clients constantly whilst on Kilimanjaro and assess if they are suffering from AMS and, if so, how severe that AMS is. We also train them on how to respond in the case of a moderate or severe case of altitude sickness – which will always mean organizing for the affected client to descend immediately. During your briefing on the first evening of your trip, your mountain guide will talk to you about symptoms of AMS and how to recognize them.

Do you carry medicines for altitude?

Yes – there are two key, potentially life-saving drugs that our teams carry on the mountain. These are Dexamethasone and Nifedipine and they used to treat cerebral and pulmonary oedema, which are the two potentially life-threatening complications of severe AMS. Our mountain guides are fully trained on the use of these drugs for altitude related illnesses.

Please note that we do not carry Diamox on our Kilimanjaro treks. The reason for this is that, although medical research suggests that Diamox can be very effective in aiding acclimatization to altitude, it has been proven to be far less effective at treating severe AMS. You may wish to talk to your doctor prior to traveling about being prescribed Diamox to assist acclimatization while you climb Kilimanjaro.

Will oxygen be available?

We carry medical oxygen – and when a group has four passengers or more, this will mean multiple cylinders will be distributed among the team of mountain guides to ensure that oxygen is always quickly available in the case of an emergency. The oxygen that we carry is strictly for emergency use only – and cannot be used by clients to assist in climbing or summiting.

Do you carry Gamow bags or PACs?

No. Gamow bags and PACs are two types of portable hyperbaric chambers, which are sometimes used for sufferers of severe AMS. What makes Kilimanjaro relatively unique is that it is a "rapid ascent mountain" – meaning altitude gain happens extremely quickly. Logically, therefore, Kilimanjaro is also a "rapid descent mountain" and our policy is that in the case of severe AMS, our mountain guides will immediately evacuate the patient down the mountain, usually with the assistance of porters to carry the person affected. Often, a descent of just a few miles will be enough to make a difference. Gamow bags and PACs are more effective in other parts of the world where rapid descent on foot is not possible. Also, a gamow bag takes a little while to inflate – which on Kilimanjaro is valuable time lost when an evacuation down the mountain could already have commenced.

How do your mountain guides communicate on Kilimanjaro?

Mobile phone coverage on the mountain is improving – but it's still patchy in many areas. For this reason, Intrepid mountain guides carry short wave radios to allow for communication in the case of an emergency.

How do you ensure your porters are well looked after?

Unfortunately there is a problem in the trekking industry with some service providers taking advantage of porters, compromising staff safety in order to minimize costs. Our Tanzanian Destination Management Company (DMC) was established in 2014 with the purpose of ensuring Intrepid stood at the forefront of responsible tourism practices on Mount Kilimanjaro. We're proud to say that we're an official partner of the International Mountain Explorers Connection (IMEC) and its Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). This means all of our climbs have been assessed and scored based on a number of criteria designed to ensure the proper treatment of porters on the mountain. You can read more about KPAP's good work at the bottom of this page.

Who is your local operator in Tanzania?

All Intrepid Kilimanjaro climbs are operated by Intrepid Guerba Tanzania Limited, which is a fully owned Intrepid company based in northern Tanzania.

Are Intrepid trips accessible for travelers with disabilities?

We are committed to making travel widely  accessible , regardless of ability or disability. We do our best to help you see the world, regardless of physical or mental limitations.

We are always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them toward the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

Trekking 85 Miles With Grandpa, Scuba Diving With Grandma

With older adults staying fit longer, many are joining their grandchildren on travel adventures like wilderness hikes, bike tours and even bungee jumping.

A grandfather in a blue button-up shirt and a beige baseball cap stands next to his granddaughter, who is wearing a pink shirt and has long, wavy blond hair that is blowing in the wind. She is holding a map with a red line marked on it, and there is a lake with boats on it in the background.

By Julie Weed

Rick Rhoads, 80, was “training like crazy” last spring, walking six miles a day — “all hills” — to get ready for his summer vacation. Mr. Rhoads, of Orcas Island, Wash., and Lucy Erent, his 15-year-old granddaughter, who lives in Prague, were planning to trek 85 miles in eight days along Scotland’s West Highland Way .

The route, which passes through farmland and forest and runs along Loch Lomond into the Scottish Highlands , traverses a range of terrains, including steep inclines and rocky trails. A trip organizer was set to manage lodging and transport the luggage each day.

Mr. Rhoads wasn’t daunted by the distance, or by the age difference. He said he was looking forward to continuing discussions the pair has had on video calls, on topics as varied as stage drama, cosplay, pandemics and family dynamics. “I’ll get her to do the talking when we’re going up hills,” he joked.

When they finally did the trek, in early July, there were a few wrinkles: The hiking was tougher than expected, and one of Mr. Rhoads’s boots began to fall apart near the end — nothing some duct tape couldn’t fix. Overall, Mr. Rhoads said, the adventure was challenging, but he was eager to do another, perhaps a route “that passed by cafes.”

Sixty may or may not be the new 40, but it’s clear that many older adults are enjoying longer “ healthspans ” — the time they are active, fit and healthy. This shift is adding a new dimension to traditional grandparent-grandchild vacations: adventure. Think bike trips instead of cruise ships, wilderness treks instead of bus tours.

According to the World Health Organization , healthy life expectancy, defined as “the average number of years a person can expect to live in full health” without disabling illnesses or injuries, rose globally to 63.7 in 2019 from 58.3 in 2000. In the United States, 40 percent of people 65 and older interviewed last year in an Outdoor Foundation study said they engaged in outdoor activities like hiking or biking. Older adults are also now more likely to be able to afford vacations: Americans 55 and over control nearly 70 percent of U.S. household wealth, compared with about 50 percent in 1989 .

Travel companies are taking notice. Craft Travel , a luxury trip planner that handles about 150 itineraries per year, has seen a big increase in grandparent-grandchild travel over the past five years, said Julia Carter, its founder, adding that “the trend has definitely been toward more adventurous, or bucket-list-type, experiences” — African safaris, hikes in Patagonia and trips to Antarctica.

Tour companies and activity providers, which generally don’t impose age caps on their offerings (though some do have minimum age requirements), are making accommodations for the new demographic. Some examples:

The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Savusavu, Fiji, which offers snorkel and scuba outings, has had grandchildren with grandparents as old as 84 learn to scuba dive together. For guests older than 70, along with the standard safety training, the resort provides a doctor to certify the diver’s health.

Road Scholar , a travel company that was founded to serve older adults and now has an online catalog dedicated to grandparent-grandchild travel, details the physical expectations of its trips so participants can decide if they can handle them. The description of its white-water rafting trip on the Lower Salmon River in Idaho, for example, tells travelers they’ll be “carrying bags in camp across uneven terrain. Temperatures often in the 90+ degree range.”

Backroads , which offers multigenerational biking, hiking, snorkeling and kayaking trips, sends training advice in advance of departure. Like many other bicycle trip organizers, Backroads makes e-bikes available, with a typical minimum age set in the midteens. Some grandparents use the e-bikes to keep up with their grandchildren, but depending on everyone’s fitness level, it may be the younger generation using them, said Liz Einbinder, a Backroads spokeswoman.

Some older adults are embarking on more extreme adventures. Nick Steers, the executive director of Great Canadian Bungee , which hosts more than 10,000 guests per year in Chelsea, Quebec, for bungee jumping, zip lining and rafting, said nearly 5 percent of its participants were 60 or older, including some grandparents there with their families. Ron Jones, the founder of Bungee America , outside Los Angeles, said that in July, a 15-year-old had jumped with his grandparents.

Active grandparents have some tips for others considering an adventure vacation with their grandchildren.

“Preparation for any trip is key,” said Joe Bassett, 60, who runs the guided wilderness adventure company Valiant Outfitters . He takes his grandchildren, the oldest of whom is 7, on hikes and overnight stays. For a camp-out he said, grandparents might walk the trail in advance to make sure they know its contours. “An ideal route would be a loop that is never more than a couple miles from the parking lot,” he said. Mr. Bassett advises no-cook meals. “Keep it simple with familiar foods,” he said.

Harriet Vogel, 84, of Palm City, Fla., also has some advice: Choose activities you both enjoy and then “have hopes rather than expectations, and just let the trip happen,” she said. When she was 79, Ms. Vogel celebrated her grandson Matthew’s college graduation by snorkeling, paddle boarding and biking with him in the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis, all mutual interests. Last year it was her granddaughter Jessie’s turn, and the two went on a walking and hiking trip in Switzerland, organized by Backroads. Ms. Vogel is currently planning a fall trip with another grandchild. The time together “increases our closeness,” she said.

While many grandparents may be ready to go on adventures with their grandchildren, not all of them are eager to deal with technology to do so.

When Fin Expeditions, in Cocoa Beach, Fla., noticed an increase in multigenerational groups going out on its kayaking tours, management made sure to offer reservations over the phone for those who don’t like dealing with websites.

But that kind of help wasn’t necessary for Fran Doran, 79, of Butte, Mont., who took her granddaughter scuba diving in Thailand this summer as a graduation gift. “I organized it and made all the reservations online,” Ms. Doran said. The pair also rode in a bamboo boat and waded with elephants in a river. “It’s fun to research,” she said.

Volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula

Since October last year, The Icelandic Meteorological Office has observed increased geophysical activity in the area. This activity has led to repeated volcanic eruptions close to the town of Grindavík. The town has been evacuated with brief intermissions since November 10th to guarantee the safety of residents. The eruption does not pose an immediate threat to people, and no further evacuations are necessary at this time.

Iceland is well-acquainted with volcanic activity, having experienced three previous eruptions nearby on the Reykjanes Peninsula in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Icelandic authorities and the public are thoroughly prepared for such events, and the country boasts some of the world's most sophisticated volcanic preparedness protocols. Iceland's geoscientists are extensively experienced in managing volcanic activity.

For a detailed look into the recent volcanic activities and their safety implications, Dr. Matthew Roberts from the Icelandic Meteorological Office offers insights through an informative video.

Emma Norsgaard Joins ‘Dream Team’ Lidl-Trek

trekking tours i

Tour de France Femmes stage winner signs three-year contract with American Team

Lidl-Trek is thrilled to announce the signing of 25-year-old Danish talent, Emma Norsgaard, to its women’s team roster through 2027. Norsgaard, an all-rounder known for her versatility and sprint, becomes the third major addition to Lidl-Trek’s 2025 women’s roster.

Norsgaard burst onto the scene in 2016, when at just 16 years old she claimed the Danish elite national road race title, signaling the start of a promising career. Since then, she has racked up an impressive 15 career victories across a variety of terrains, including a commanding bunch sprint win at the Giro d’Italia, victory in Le Samyn, and a daring long-range breakaway at the 2023 Tour de France Femmes.

Although she initially made her mark as a sprinter, Norsgaard has evolved into a polyvalent rider capable of excelling across diverse terrains. Her versatility was on full display with her Tour de France Femmes stage win – a victory she considers her crowning achievement to date. Now, Norsgaard sees herself as a classics specialist with a quick finishing kick and dreams of one day winning the prestigious Tour of Flanders.

Commenting on her move to Lidl-Trek, Emma Norsgaard said, “This team has always been a dream team for me, and I really had the feeling that they have confidence in me and believe so much in me. I am so proud to become part of one of the absolute best teams in the world. I already started dreaming about the upcoming season after my first meeting with Trek. I am really looking forward to become a better cyclist and make a plan to reach my dreams together with my new teammates. I am hoping to be the best version of myself and the best possible teammate.”

Lidl-Trek General Manager, Luca Guercilena, expressed his enthusiasm for Norsgaard’s arrival, stating, “Emma is a phenomenal talent with a wide range of skills. Our Team is well-known for its aggressive racing style, and I believe Emma will align perfectly with this. Her Tour de France stage win epitomized this attacking, never-say-die attitude.

Even though Emma has been racing at the highest level for several years already, she is still a young rider. We believe she has the potential to become one of the top riders in the classics, and we’re excited to support her development over the next few years. She’s a rider who knows how to win in different scenarios, and we’re confident she’ll be a key asset to Lidl-Trek.”

Lidl-Trek looks forward to supporting Norsgaard in the next stage of her career, helping her pursue her goals while strengthening the Team’s performance at the toughest races. With her talent and ambition, she is poised to be a key figure for Lidl-Trek in the years to come.

‘Tis the season of rock reunions — but not for the Smiths , according to Morrissey , who has responded to demands for the British rock band’s revival after Oasis unexpectedly announced their return . Although it comes as no surprise (the Smiths have famously rejected similar offers for a reunion tour), Morrissey seemed encouraged to shut down any excitement for a treaty between himself and bandmate Johnny Marr .

The Smiths broke up in 1987, and much like the Oasis brothers, Marr and Morrissey have hardly spoken to each other, with each going on as solo acts (Andy Rourke, the Smiths’ bassist, died in 2023). Marr slyly responded to fans fantasizing about the Smiths reunion tour on Aug. 26 via X with a photo of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.

pic.twitter.com/DK9rbyMEB0 — Johnny Marr (@Johnny_Marr) August 26, 2024

For some context, back in 2016, Marr and Morrissey sparred about their political differences, with Morrissey making remarks about being pro-Brexit and in support of Farage, while Marr condemned his former bandmate for those beliefs.

“I can only really speak for myself, I don’t feel like it’s necessary at all really,” said Marr when asked about the chances of the Smiths reuniting by Sky News . “I really like moving forward. Myself and Andy play together when I’m over in New York — he plays a couple of songs with me and that’s always really nice, but that’s really as far as it needs to go I think.” In that same interview, Marr briefly touched on (more accurately, he skirted around) Morrissey’s political beliefs, calling them a “slight drawback.”

The band took to their Instagram page on Monday (Aug. 26) to share appreciation for Swift, posting a photo in which frontwoman Hayley Williams and the band smile alongside the pop star, who is giving a thumbs up to the camera. “Thank you for asking us to be part of such an incredible moment in your life and career,” the caption reads. “We loved playing for the Swifties, we loved watching you tell your life story through this show. And we truly fell in love with your whole crew. Congrats on one more leg of this giant, history making tour! We love you!”

Most recently, Swift and Williams teamed up for “Castles Crumbling” off of 2023’s  Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) .

Back in April, Williams took to her Instagram Stories following the release of her longtime pal Swift’s 11th studio album,  The Tortured Poets Department , to name the project as one of her favorites in honor of Record Store Day. “Had me from the storytelling alone, my friend,” Williams wrote alongside the cover art. “Every one of us knows this kind of grief! It’s so impressive to me how specific and colorful Taylor’s words get without ever losing the universal thread. I’m so ready to be tour-mates.”
