Backstage tours are among some of the most popular experiences for fans of Walt Disney World, with tours offering behind-the-scenes looks at attractions, and exclusive areas of Disney Parks not otherwise seen.

Many of the backstage tours at Walt Disney World have returned since they were paused at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Guests have been holding out hope that some favorites would return to EPCOT soon.

This morning, the Disney Parks Blog confirmed a number of returning backstage experiences at the Park that Guests can book for vacations this fall, and we can’t wait to share all of the details!

The Seas With Nemo & Friends is really one of the most underrated areas of any Disney Park. The giant tank inside this pavilion houses over 2,000 creatures from 90 species, including sea turtles, dolphins, eagle rays, angelfish, and sharks, just to name a few.

EPCOT Seas Adventures – DiveQuest allows Guests to enter the 5.7 million-gallon tank to immerse themselves in the world that these creatures call home. The experience is only available to SCUBA-certified Guests, but if you happen to have SCUBA knowledge this behind-the-scenes tour offers an extremely unique look at one of EPCOT’s most fascinating pavilions .

The Seas With Nemo & Friends

EPCOT Seas Adventures – Dolphins in Depth

Dolphins in Depth offers a backstage tour experience for Guests who are not SCUBA-certified (or simply prefer a more accessible tour). During this experience, Guests can meet the dolphins who live at The Seas With Nemo & Friends up close while learning about these incredible animals and their lives in the wild.

Booking opens for all of the above tours and backstage experiences at EPCOT beginning August 22, 2022. Guests can make reservations in advance on DisneyWorld.com or in the My Disney Experience app for tours beginning October 2, 2022, (right after the 40th anniversary of EPCOT.)

Information on booking a Disney backstage tour , or spending the day with VIP tour guide is available on Disney’s official website and app.

As you make reservations, remember that valid theme park admission and reservations are required for the Behind the Seeds tour. Book your tour soon, and have a magical time!

Review: Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot’s Living with the Land

Behind the Seeds, a backstage tour of Living with the Land at Epcot, focuses on the science of a fan-favorite Disney World attraction.

Living with the Land at Epcot

Basic Info for Behind the Seeds

Behind the Seeds is a one-hour guided tour backstage at Epcot. Attendees learn about the real-life horticulture and nutrition grown inside The Land Pavilion in the World Nature area of the park, specifically along the route of the Living with the Land boat ride. Along the way, guests get to touch, taste, and even feed some of the organisms that grow here.

Living with the Land at Epcot

Behind the Seeds is one of many backstage tours at Walt Disney World Resort. These experiences are branded under Disney’s Enchanted Extras Collection, a catch-all term for tours, private PhotoPass sessions, and other structured, guided add-ons to a Disney World vacation.

Backstage at Living with the Land

Behind the Seeds is the only tour at Disney World to focus on one specific ride. Given the fandom that Living with the Land commands online within the theme park community, many guests may enjoy the opportunity to not only learn more about the attraction, but to simply spend an extended period of time in its calming atmosphere.

Living with the Land at Epcot

Much of Behind the Seeds takes place in walkways adjacent to the ride path of Living with the Land. You may have seen tour groups shuffling through from your boat while onboard the ride.

Because of this proximity — being a “backstage” tour that largely takes place in a guest area — photography is allowed during Behind the Seeds (whereas most Disney tours have a strict no-photos policy). A few minutes into the tour, I realized the unique vantage point we had of many plants and structures I’d never seen so up-close before. Why was my camera in my backpack?! I promptly retrieved it, and spent much of the remainder of the tour snapping pictures. If you enjoy taking photos inside Disney theme parks, Behind the Seeds offers the unique opportunity to practice photography of a familiar space from uncommon angles. I loved taking advantage of this when I realized I could.

You’ll Enjoy Behind the Seeds If …

Behind the Seeds feels a bit like a science class field trip. It’s educational and hands-on in a space that’s not a classroom. If that sounds fun to you, you’ll enjoy this tour. If that sounds boring to you, your hour might be better spent elsewhere in Epcot.

Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot

Guests with interests in horticulture, farming, health, or bugs will be over the moon during Behind the Seeds. At the same time, one needn’t be an expert in any of these subjects to enjoy the tour. The information on the tour is presented in a clear, accessible, and fun way.

Visitors with fond memories of 1980s Epcot may also find Behind the Seeds particularly special. Although Living with the Land has changed slightly over the decades, the attraction remains largely the same overall experience that debuted with Epcot in 1982. Incidentally, our tour guide told us much of the attraction’s backstage systems have remained stuck in the ’80s, too. More on that in a moment.

Fun Facts We Learned

Some fascinating tidbits we learned during Behind the Scenes:

  • While it’s true that food grown inside The Land Pavilion is harvested for guest consumption at Disney World restaurants, the ratio of this supply is very small compared to the resort’s total inventory of fruits and vegetables.
  • Chefs at Disney World restaurants can request specific items be grown in The Land Pavilion for specialty dishes or new menu items. The most frequent “customers” are the chefs at Tiffin’s (at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park) and curators of corporate events onsite.
  • Only cast members with special clearance can enter the areas closest to the plants throughout Living with the Land. Anyone without certification is not allowed — including Imagineers. For this reason, the attraction’s horticulturalists are responsible for seasonal theming elements, like the lights during the holidays or the storybook gardens during springtime. Typically these décor-driven tasks would fall to Imagineers instead.

Living with the Land holiday lights

Is Behind the Seeds Worth It?

Behind the Seeds costs $39-$45, depending on the date (same price for all guests regardless of age). This price does not include park admission to Epcot, which is required.

While the bottom line might seem more economical compared to other Disney tours , the proportion of cost-vs.-time is more expensive than some of them. Behind the Seeds is roughly $40 for one hour. In contrast, Keys to the Kingdom (the tour of Magic Kingdom Park and its “underground” Utilidors) is $129-$149 for five hours.

Behind the Seeds backstage tour at Epcot

For longtime Disney World visitors looking for something new to experience, Behind the Seeds is an excellent choice to see something you know through a completely new lens. First-time guests or those expecting a look into the history of Epcot and the inner workings of Disney storytelling would probably enjoy a different tour more.

Our tour guide said that much of the technology at work within The Land Pavilion’s real-life application was revolutionary when Epcot opened, but it’s almost all outdated by today’s industry standards. Therefore, seeing it all up close could be either fascinating or depressing, depending on your point of view.

How to Book

Behind the Seeds embarks on a new tour every hour, on the half-hour, 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Guests staying onsite at a hotel in the Disney Resorts Collection can book their spot for Behind the Seeds beginning at 6 a.m. (eastern time) 60 days prior to check-in day. Other guests can reserve a tour up to 60 days before their intended tour date.

Book online here , or call (407) 939-7529. Disney Vacation Club members can call (800) 800-9800. Guests can also reserve Behind the Seeds in the My Disney Experience app. Disney accepts walk-ups too, if space is available; you can check by visiting the desk near the ride entrance to Living with the Land.

Spaceship Earth at sunset

While some Disney tours require an age minimum somewhere in the teens, Behind the Seeds is available to any guest age 3 and up (though guests under age 18 need an adult present with them). That being said, it’s hard to imagine a three-year-old enjoying Behind the Seeds. As stated earlier, the vibe is very “science class field trip” and therefore probably best enjoyed by guests ages 8 and up.

Other Epcot Tours

As an alternative to Behind the Scenes (or in addition to it!), Epcot junkies can take a deep dive, literally, during DiveQuest or Dolphins in Depth , two programs offered with Epcot Seas Adventures within The Seas with Nemo & Friends.

The former Undiscovered Future World tour is no longer offered.

Come With Us To Go Behind the Scenes of a Popular Ride in EPCOT!

backstage tour epcot

We’re taking you behind the scenes of one of EPCOT’s most iconic rides (and no, we will not be hearing any arguments on that front).

backstage tour epcot

That’s right — we went backstage at Living with the Land and the best part is that you can too. Disney World offers special tours and this one happens to be pretty cool — so we’re taking you with us to check it out!

Disney Vacation Planner

The Behind the Seeds Tour takes guests backstage at Living with the Land in EPCOT’s Land Pavilion, and it’s a great tour for anyone who loves plants or just learning about what goes on behind the scenes of a Disney ride. We checked in 15 minutes before our start time (per Disney’s recommendation) at the exit of Living with the Land.

backstage tour epcot

During this tour, you visit four greenhouses and a fish farm, encountering insects, fish, plants, and more. Our tour guide went over the basics of the tour before bringing us to the Pest Management Lab, where we learned about Disney’s use of insects to help control pests in the greenhouses.

And then, we were off to our first greenhouse where our tour guide shared all about different growing methods and soil materials like hydroponics, Rockwool, perlite, and more.

backstage tour epcot

Here we can see a couple of different growing methods Disney uses. In the background, those long, green winter melons are grown using an aerial vining method which allows Disney to grow many plants at once.

But, to the left you can see pomegranate plants that Disney has been able to grow using more traditional methods.

backstage tour epcot

All of the plants grown inside the greenhouses at EPCOT are edible including these Carolina Reaper peppers on their way to ripening. These were used in some of the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival dishes last year!

backstage tour epcot

We moved on to the Aqua Culture Lab, where we learned that this red light is actually used to help kill algae in the tanks. There are shrimp, tilapia, and bass in these tanks that Disney uses to help keep everything afloat (get it?).

backstage tour epcot

And then, we made our way into the tropical greenhouse — home to some of the lushest plants that are on the ride. It’s really hard to beat this view! Disney recommends you go on the ride before taking the tour and we tend to agree. But, we can’t deny that seeing the ride from this angle just might be our new favorite view!

backstage tour epcot

Tours are offered several times daily and usually start at park opening with the last tour being at 4:30PM. You can book yours on the Disney World website. Right now, tours cost between $39 and $45 per person depending on the date you book.

backstage tour epcot

If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!

Backstage Tours: Behind the Seeds Edition

Do you find yourself wondering how things work at Disney World? Me too! There are tours available that give you a peek behind the Magic. One of the most popular is the Behind the Seeds tour in EPCOT. This tour covers the backstage area of the Living With the Land attraction, as well as some of the onstage area that you can see from the boats.

Boat and Mickey topiary Living With the Land; Behind the Seeds

Living With the Land is a sleeper hit at Walt Disney World. It is a boat ride that not only talks about sustainable farming, and all things agriculture, it shows you. The ride takes you through greenhouses with beautiful plants and vegetables, and even different species of fish, being farmed in new sustainable ways, and of course, you might see some Mickey’s along the way. The Behind the Seeds tour allows you to walk through the greenhouses with a knowledgeable guide, giving you a much closer look and some great information.

Part 1: Backstage

You arrive for your tour at a counter that is between the Soarin’ entrance and the Living With the Land Exit, in the Land Pavilion. The cast member will check for your reservation and give you a lanyard to wear that identifies you as part of the tour.

Counter for Behind the Seeds check-in

The tour guide will bring you to a backstage room where everyone will introduce themselves. Our tour guide had a degree in Bioengineering, so not only was he enthusiastic about the topic at hand, he was very knowledgeable and answered a large spectrum of questions.

As the tour begins,  you’ll move into the Biological Control lab, where aquarium-sized tanks will introduce you to garden pests and solutions. Complete with videos, and live critters in the tanks, this part is mostly about bugs, but it’s not at all creepy.

backstage tour epcot

As we prepared to go into the greenhouses, our tour guide passed out listening devices so we could hear him as we spread out a little in larger spaces. The devices are easy to use and comfortable even for my son, who is on the Autism Spectrum and has significant sensory issues. If the devices are not something you can use, as long as you stay close to the tour guide, you should be able to hear them without trouble. (It’s pretty easy to stay close enough to hear.)

The first stop in the greenhouses is an FDA research lab. If you’re there on a weekday, you might see scientists in action as they work on projects designed to further sustainability with agriculture. This is an area that is protected, so you will only be able to view it from a large window. You can actually see this window from the ride, but on the tour, you’ll be able to look through it and see what’s going on inside.

Behind the Seeds tour guide

Part 2: Onstage Greenhouses

As you continue the tour, you’ll enter the spaces the ride goes through. The tour progresses in the opposite direction from the ride, starting with a large greenhouse that is predominantly plants and vegetables that you can grow at home. There just might be a little surprise tasting at this stop. Oh, and don’t forget to wave at the boat as it goes by.

As we walked through, our guide discussed the multiple species of lettuce used at many of the restaurants at Walt Disney World. Tuesday is harvest day, so maybe that’s a day of the week you’d like to visit. One thing to know is that since the plants change from time to time, you may learn slightly different things than if you took the tour in the past.

backstage tour epcot

Next up, we moved into aquaculture and got up close and personal with the fish farming elements. I don’t want to have too many spoilers – but I suggest you volunteer to feed the fish if it’s part of your tour.

The final greenhouse was all about spices and includes the adorable and highly scientific Mickey topiaries. We played a game involving spices, and our guide took photos for us and answered questions. And, of course, we continued to wave at the guests on the boats.

All the Details

Most everyone can take the tour. It is an hour-long walking tour with one short time where we sat. Ages 3+ are welcome, so unless you have very young kids your whole family can go, and it is fully accessible. Guests under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult to take the tour.

Having said that, keep in mind that the subject matter won’t be exciting for everyone. But if this sounds like something that is your cup of tea, the next step is signing up.

The tour itself is $35 per guest, and Annual Pass and Disney Vacation Club Member discounts are available. At that price, you won’t be surprised to hear that although you need to enter the park to take the tour, park admission isn’t included.

Behind the Seeds runs 7 days a week, with tours leaving multiple times a day. The latest tour will be at 4:30 p.m., and the morning tours tend to fill up first. I recommend a morning tour during the summer months, as the greenhouses heat up throughout the day.

The easiest way is to start from the Behind the Seeds page on the Disney World website. (If you start in the app, it will take you to the page on the website.) Click on “Check Availability”, and you’ll be able to search a range of up to 10 days for available times.

Reservations open sixty days in advance. As I was searching through the dates, I saw that less than a month out, typically some dates and times are unavailable. However, if you are not fussy about the specific time it is often possible to book a tour on the same day. If you exit Living With The Land and are inspired to take the tour, the check-in desk is right at the exit. If there is a time still available on the same day, the Cast Member there will be happy to get you registered.

My family had a great experience, and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Living With the Land.

Epcot’s UnDISCOVERed Future World Tour Review

backstage tour epcot

The UnDISCOVERed Future World Tour is a 4-hour walking tour of Epcot, which includes backstage looks at the park, a visit to a VIP lounge, priority attraction access, and information about Walt Disney’s vision for an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. In this post, we’ll review our experience on the tour, and assess whether it’s worth your time and money.

At the outset, I want to know that the UnDISCOVERed Future World Tour is subject to change. What we experienced on our tour differs pretty dramatically from what friends told us they did only a couple of years ago. I know at one point, stops into the upstairs ImageWorks and backstage at Universe of Energy were part of the tour, and those aspects have been cut out of necessity. While the backstage areas can change, you typically go into one VIP sponsor lounge, have priority access to two Future World attractions, and receive a souvenir pin at the end of the tour.

The tour did not start out well. The introduction in Innoventions lasted nearly 30 minutes, and focused heavily on generic Walt Disney history. Oswald, Mickey, and animation all were discussed heavily, with maybe a couple minutes left for Walt’s dream of E.P.C.O.T.

I get that the modern Walt Disney Company leans heavily on its founder and his accomplishments to tug at the emotional heartstrings and maintain brand goodwill. However, around 20 minutes of this introduction had absolutely nothing to do with EPCOT. It’s all neat info (that most people taking the tour probably already know), but it’s unrelated to the subject matter of the tour, and frankly, immaterial.

Not once were the names Marty Sklar, Herb Ryman, John Hench, Tony Baxter, Tom Fitzgerald, George McGinnis, Dick Nunis, Card Walker, and the countless others who made the dream of EPCOT a reality mentioned during this introduction. To my recollection, the only name mentioned aside from Walt Disney during the entire tour was Ray Bradbury.

This is no knock on our tour guide. She was friendly, personable, and clearly enthusiastic about her role. I’m sure this is part of the tour guide spiel, and doubt she had any hand in writing that. Rather, I’m saying it’s a bad spiel, and generic information that belongs in another tour (or no tour at all).

This genericism set the tone for the first half of the tour. We walked around Future World (on-stage), while our guide shared information and facts about Future World. This was a fairly even balance between present-day and the past. Aside from walking around, we rode Spaceship Earth and visited Coral Reef Restaurant pre-opening in the first half of the tour.

Some of the “facts” we were told on the tour were a bit questionable, which is par for the course with these Disney tours. I’m guessing there’s a script for the tour, plus an official fact sheet from which the guides can pull at their discretion, plus improvisational word-of-mouth tidbits shared among Cast Members. Even the parts that were accurate were not all that interesting or insightful. You’d learn more about the creation of EPCOT Center by watching this .

Perhaps I’m being a bit hard on the historical and informative aspects of the tour. We’ve done countless D23 seminars, several of which have been specific to EPCOT. We are probably not the typical guests who take this tour. Then again, who is? Much of what was presented felt like it was geared towards someone who was visiting Epcot for the very first time.

backstage tour epcot

Since UnDISCOVERed Future World is not marketed as a VIP offering that bypasses lines, I’m guessing it’s primarily taken by fans who are interested in the origins, development, and construction of the park, and want a look behind the scenes. I mean, that’s exactly how Disney describes the tour . Even if you’ve never done an EPCOT-centric D23 event, you’re going to know a lot of what’s covered in the first half of the tour.

About halfway through the tour, we stopped in the Land pavilion for a 20 minute break. During that time, Sarah and I got breakfast at Sunshine Seasons.

backstage tour epcot

The tour’s second half was its turning point. From the Land, we went backstage, walking back by Journey into Imagination and Canada before heading inside to see the maintenance bay for Imagination, and also the facilities where 3D glasses are cleaned. This was awesome to see, and also interesting.

From there, we criss-crossed Future World, heading to the HP lounge in Mission: Space before going backstage at Test Track, and then bypassing the line to ride Test Track. (Pictured here is the General Motors Lounge from a previous visit.)

backstage tour epcot

All of this was cool, interesting, and contained neat visuals. Riding Test Track took very little time, so it was a welcome addition to the tour. (By contrast, riding Spaceship Earth was time consuming and something I’d rather do on my own.)

After that, we headed backstage again into the Cast Services building, and spent a good amount of time in the wardrobe department. Without a doubt, this was the highlight of the tour. We saw hundreds of different costumes, makeup, and a room where Cast was working on creating new costumes.

backstage tour epcot

The interior of this area was filled with old Audio Animatronics, including Figment! I spent the entire time we were in there with my head darting around, looking at the different figures. Unfortunately, photos are not allowed on the backstage portions of the tour, so I don’t have any images of this coolness. (The above photo is from a few years ago during the launch of MagicBands when Figment was out.)

Our time in that particular room was too short (I could’ve spent all day in there), but it’s an active work environment, so it’s totally understandable that we had to get in and out quickly–I’m just happy we got to go in at all.

We also walked through a hallway filled with murals painted by different departments from Epcot for the Millennium Celebration. At least half of these featured Figment (YES!) and several of them were beautifully-done. I loved this, as it showcased the creativity of front-of-line Cast Members. (I also love the 1990s artistic sensibilities.)

All in all, the Cast Services building was a huge highlight of the tour. I think we spent around 30 to 45 minutes in that building, which was a good chunk of the tour, but not nearly enough given everything it held. For us, this was the redeeming element of the UnDISCOVERed Future World Tour.

Overall, the UnDISCOVERed Future World Tour was a mixed bag. The normal price is currently $69 (we got 15% off with an AP discount), which is way too high for the quality of the tour. With that said, my main issue with the tour is not the price, but the time. My opinion of the tour would be higher if it were the same cost, with the first half cut entirely. It feels like interesting backstage areas have been cut from the tour (namely, Universe of Energy) because they’re no longer accessible, but rather than swapping in something equally interesting, the solution has just been for tour guides to spiel and walk on-stage. Frankly, I can walk around on-stage at Epcot and read from Wikipedia on my own time. The second half of the tour was much stronger, and is almost enough to get us to recommend it. If both halves of the tour were that good, we’d have nothing but praise for the UnDISCOVERed Future World Tour. As it stands, the current offering is uneven and just okay. To that end, we’d recommend the exceptional Behind the Seeds at Epcot over the UnDISCOVERed Future World Tour.

We did this tour in December and really enjoyed it. I think that if you are more of a general WDW visitor, the information provided contains some info you already know and some new and interesting details. Our tour guide was able to answer questions from the group, give historical information on the fly, and this, in our estimate, makes the tour valuable. I think that all of these tours have are designed to hit a wide audience with varying experience and knowledge of WDW. The best part of the tour for us was a ‘secret’ lounge at the living seas. We had a great unobstructed view while our guide shared details about the inhabitants and activities of the tank.

“I think that all of these tours have are designed to hit a wide audience with varying experience and knowledge of WDW.”

From my perspective, this is part of the problem. By assuming zero background knowledge (even the most basic stuff guests could easily learn by reading Walt Disney’s Wikipedia page), the tour is less enjoyable for the type of guest towards whom Disney is marketing it.

Moreover, if it’s someone’s first visit to Walt Disney World, I hope they aren’t doing backstage tours. There are better uses of their time and it’s “too soon” to spoil part of the illusion like that.

' src=

We did this tour when I was 16, and I remember it being much shorter than 4 hours (granted, this was a LONG time ago). In addition to going into the cast building, we also toured some of the event spaces at the seas and viewed the backstage of Universe of Energy. Definitely did not see the glasses-cleaning spot, as that would have definitely stood out in my mind.

While I enjoyed the tour some dozen or so years ago, I absolutely hated this offering when I was a CM. I know that tour guides are told to go into wardrobe at a particular time, but some chose to go when not permitted, i.e. when performers were getting ready. Granted, performers are constantly on view onstage, but it was really awful to be backstage, not show ready, and be put in a fishbowl. Totally not blaming tourists for this–it’s fascinating, after all!

Glad to hear that you would recommend the Behind the Seeds. I have done it several times and absolutely love it!

“I absolutely hated this offering when I was a CM. I know that tour guides are told to go into wardrobe at a particular time, but some chose to go when not permitted, i.e. when performers were getting ready.”

A friend of ours did the tour a week after us, and he noted that there were performers who were clearly getting changed in one of the areas, which was uncomfortable for everyone involved.

Even during our tour–which didn’t feature anything like that–I wondered how Cast Members felt about guests being back there. They can’t let their guard down on-stage for obvious reasons, and it might be ‘a bit much’ to also guests watching them backstage.

Oh my goodness how mortifying! Fortunately, I was speaking more about the makeup area you mentioned in the post, as entertainment has locker rooms in a completely separate building. It was enough of a nuisance when trying to get properly wig’d/made up; I can’t imagine having guests present when you’re changing!

' src=

We did this tour a couple of years ago, and it was fantastic. I am sure that this was in large part because we ended up being the only people to sign up, so we got a private tour! The guide realized within the first few minutes that we were knowledgeable Epcot fans, so there was no generic information spiel. And we moved faster and went to more places because it was a private tour. But our pin was not nearly as cool as yours!

That sounds awesome. Our tour was fairly intimate, but not like that!

' src=

We did the same tour last week and were very disappointed. The first half was as you described but we didnt have any breaks. The second half was less remarkable – yours sounds more interesting. Two days before, we did the Keys to the Kingdom tour and it was amazing and I’m sure that didn’t help our impression. I recommend the Behind the Seeds to everyone and it makes a great gift when we’re travelling with someone celebrating a birthday.

Sarah did the Keys to the Kingdom tour last year, and absolutely loved it. She agreed that it was far superior to this Epcot tour. I’d love to do KTTK at some point, but that price…

' src=

My wife and I will be visiting in August, during her birthday… is there some special surprise on this tour for a person celebrating their birthday?

Epcot Behind the Seeds Tour Review

Posted on Last updated: September 27, 2023

Tours at Disney World are a great way to “plus” your vacation if you’ve been to the parks many times.

To get a feel for what to expect on a Disney World tour, I took the Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot last month.

Read on to learn all about what to expect on this tour and my overall impressions!

the land ride sign

The Behind the Seeds tour gives a “backstage” tour of the greenhouses found in the Land pavilion in Epcot’s Future World.

You see these greenhouses on the Living with the Land boat ride and I have been fascinated with them since I was a kid!

Behind the Seeds Tour Times

The tour is offered every day of the week and many times throughout the day. Here is a recent schedule of times the tour is offered:

I registered for the tour 60 days in advance by booking online through Disney’s Enchanting Extras .

I paid for the tour with my Chase Disney Visa to get a 15% discount – click here to learn about this and other perks of having the Chase Disney Visa card in your wallet.

The total for the Behind the Seeds tour with my discount was $29.75 (regular price is $35).

I checked in at the meeting place for the tour, the Soarin’ desk inside the Land pavilion, 15 minutes prior to the tour and was given a nametag.

Our tour guide met our group of about eight people soon after and whisked us backstage to begin the tour!

I have to go on Living With the Land every time I’m at Epcot, so getting to experience the attraction backstage was a huge treat.

There were several hidden (and not-so-hidden) Mickeys throughout the backstage area, so you never forgot you were at Disney!

We visited four greenhouses and the fish farm during the tour while Brian explained some of the techniques used at the facility.

I think anyone with an interest in the natural sciences or gardening would be fascinated with the content.

I was amazed at how much I learned in this 60-minute tour. I

really appreciated the pace, which was brisk without feeling rushed. The time passed quickly and I was surprised when an hour had already passed.

I also loved the sensory experience of the tour-  not only did we see and listen, but we also touched, smelled, and even tasted!

There were two little ones on our tour (roughly ages one and six) and they did great. I plan on taking my daughter when she is old enough to understand more of the science, maybe around age nine or ten.

Overall, I was blown away by the quality of the Behind the Seeds tour – I felt like it was worth at least double what I paid! If this tour is any indication, expect to get a great deal of education and entertainment on Disney World tours.

Any questions about this tour or tour in general at Disney World? Please leave a comment below or join the discussion over at The Budget Mouse private Facebook group !

We’re Spilling BACKSTAGE SECRETS of a Popular EPCOT Ride 😱

By Samantha Kendall Leave a Comment

Disney World is known as the Most Magical Place on Earth, but did you know there are ways to make it just a bit more magical ?

backstage tour epcot

Spaceship Earth

It’s true, and it’s all thanks to Disney’s special events and tours . These extras may be something you need to budget a little bit more for, but man, can they really elevate your experience. Between Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and even some of the hotels , chances are there’s something for just about everyone. And, for those with a green thumb (or those who are just really into plants and science), there’s one tour that offers you the chance to learn — all while going backstage at a popular EPCOT ride.

Disney Vacation Planner

If you love Living with the Land in EPCOT , the Behind the Seeds tour might be something you need to add to your Disney World must-do list! Make your way through the backstage areas and lush greenhouses of this unique attraction as you learn just how Disney keeps things green all year long. I recently took the Behind the Seeds tour for the first time — here’s what it was like!

First, I checked in at the Land Pavilion, right next to the exit of Living with the Land. Disney recommends that you ride the Living with the Land attraction before doing the Behind the Seeds tour to enjoy a preview of what you can expect. You’ll want to arrive 15 minutes before the tour starts.

backstage tour epcot

Behind the Seeds Greenhouse Tour Sign in EPCOT

You’ll visit four greenhouses (plus a fish farm) in The Land Pavilion during this one-hour tour, encountering insects, fish, and plants along the way. While visiting our first stop — the Pest Management lab — where we learned about how Disney controls the insects in the greenhouse (spoiler alert: it’s with other insects!), my tour group was given a walkie-talkie-type headset so we could hear our tour guide, Rachel, throughout the greenhouses.

We were then ushered outside to get a view of the Tissue Culture lab. If this looks sort of familiar, that’s because you can actually see the other side of this lab from the ride itself! This is where Disney grows and studios different types of plants while they’re still young.

backstage tour epcot

Tissue culture lab

And, then, we entered our first greenhouse! It was like seeing the world from a totally different angle. As a die-hard Living with the Land fanatic, it was so cool to see the ride and greenhouses up close and from a new perspective. Here, you can see Brussels sprouts growing with a hydroponic method.

backstage tour epcot

Mobile hydroponics

Here, we learned about the different growing methods and soil materials Disney uses, including hydroponics, Rockwool, vertical grow systems, and more. The towers pictured below are made from recycled materials and can be used to grow a variety of plants like flowers and vegetables in a compact space.

backstage tour epcot

VertiGro system

Check it out! There were even strawberries growing in some of the containers. How perfect does that look?

backstage tour epcot

Look at this strawberry!

We also got to sample a type of seedless cucumber that is actually grown in the Land Pavilion! It was on the mild side and was slightly sweet and crunchy. Much of the food grown here is actually used in restaurants all around Disney World. We learned that Disney chefs will actually visit the greenhouses, requesting samples of ingredients to incorporate into their recipes throughout the parks and resorts.

backstage tour epcot

A cucumber grown on the ride!

Disney employs quite a few different growing methods in order to be able to grow all types of plants in one environment — no matter where they originated in nature. Here, you can see more vertical growing methods being used. If you look on the left, you can see a tomato “tree” that Disney scientists created by training tomato vines to grow upward.

backstage tour epcot

First greenhouse

We moved on to the next greenhouse, where Rachel explained that in this one, sand is used as a growing medium which actually helps with temperature control. In fact, there’s actually five feet of sand if you were to dig all the way down! The vertical growth method is still used here, but what’s interesting is that the huge winter melon canopy you see is actually only made from four small vines.

Disney also utilizes Aqua Culture in the Land Pavilion, and we got to check that area out as well. There are shrimp, tilapia, and bass in these tanks that are used to help keep things running smoothly. Wondering about the red light? It actually helps prevent algae growth and buildup in the tanks. We also got to feed some of the fish and it was quite the frenzy!

After the Aqua Culture lab, it was time for my favorite part — the tropical greenhouse! I mean, come on, can you beat that view?!

The final, beautiful greenhouse!

We got to get up close and personal with many of the plants in this area — being mindful to still not touch anything unless our tour guide told us we could. Here you can see a vanilla plant, which is actually a type of orchid. But, as you can see, this whole greenhouse is just full of lush foliage.

Taylor Momsen Reveals the Song She Plays to Get in the ‘Headspace’ to Perform With the Pretty Reckless (Exclusive)

Taylor Momsen Reveals the Song She Plays to Get in the ‘Headspace’ to Play with the Pretty Reckless

The Pretty Reckless have had a crazy year. Not only did the rock band open for The Rolling Stones at their May 11 show in Las Vegas, they are now on the road as the supporting act for the European leg of AC/DC’s 2024 Pwr Up Tour.

In an exclusive interview for Us Weekly ’s Backstage Pass, The Pretty Reckless’ frontwoman, Taylor Momsen , dished on what goes on behind the scenes in the band’s dressing room ahead of each show. “It used to be a party for sure,” the Gossip Girl alum, 30, shared. Now, “It’s the exact opposite — it’s very chill, no guests allowed.”

As for the pre-show vibes, “We just play music and hang out,” she explained, noting there are “definitely candles going, and a good rock and roll playlist [playing]” which includes Soundgarden, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Nirvana.

Before hitting the stage, Momsen and her bandmates — guitarist Ben Phillips , bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins — keep things simple by following a routine: “We start with attaching the monitor pack, which is a bit tricky with my clothing,” the singer shared. “Then, the band hangs out the side of the stage and I do some stretches.”

Next, “Our guitarist inevitably plays the first four notes of ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ by Pink Floyd on his guitar from backstage,” she continues. “That’s the cue for our monitor engineer to play ‘Slaves and Bulldozers’ by Soundgarden in our in-ears monitor.”

“We all listen to that until it’s show time,” Momsen told Us . “That song really gets me in the headspace to go out and do it.”

Though Momsen admits it’s tough to pick a favorite song to perform (“I love them all obviously,” she explained) there is one that she finds to be the most meaningful. “’Make Me Wanna Die’ — which was our first real release and our first number one [song] in England — always feels so good and so natural to play,” she said. “I love that I wrote a song 15 years ago that still holds up today.”

After playing everywhere from Glasgow to Buenos Aires, it’s hard for Momsen to nail down a craziest performance — but one sticks out as the most memorable. “In Argentina a bunch of girls came on stage and danced to our song ‘Goin Down’. Let’s just say some clothing came off,” she said. “Apparently, a father in the audience didn’t like the nudity and called the authorities.

“The show was shut down and we had to get out of the country … quickly,” she added.

Following the concerts — which IS the party, Momsen insisted — the only way to decompress is with “a nice cozy bed, some cookies and sleep,” she explained. “If it’s a big show and we want to celebrate then [we do so by] just hanging with the band and cranking more music.”

Momsen — who quit acting to pursue a career in music — wouldn’t change her path for anything. “It’s great being in a band with your best friends for 15 years,” she told Us . “[We] never have a bad time hanging out together.”

Tickets for AC/DC’s Pwr Up Tour are available now .

Pat Sajak Cuts ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Celebration Short After Contestants Rejoice Over Incorrect Answer: “No!”

Exit only ‘wheel of fortune’ contestant’s incorrect guess about butts is an instant classic, when is pat sajak’s last day on ‘wheel of fortune’, krysten ritter nearly fumbles ‘celebrity wheel of fortune’ puzzle after admitting she doesn’t know who travis and jason kelce are .

Wheel of Fortune viewers got a special backstage look at what happens behind that iconic puzzle board.

Maggie Sajak , Pat Sajak ‘s daughter who works as a social media correspondent for the show, shared a fun video in which she, her father and Vanna White gave fans a tour of Wheel ‘s backstage area.

“So I’m behind the puzzle board and look who I found!” Maggie says as she pans the camera to give a glimpse of the control room, where her father happens to be hanging out.

“It looks like an election headquarters back here, I see the screens and everything,” Pat jokes. “I think I see some anchormen.”

After Maggie explains that the fans have been asking for a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes, Pat jokes, “Well we can’t show a lot because there are certain things that are highly classified.”

Per Pat’s suggestion, they then show a stand of water bottles labeled “Pat’s water.”

“They gave me enough to last me the rest of the season,” he jokes.

White also gave her own mini backstage tour in another video shared by Maggie on social media, in which the longtime Wheel co-host shared what she likes to keep backstage.

“They used to bring cookies. They used to bring chips. They used to bring all the bad snacks, and I used to eat them,” White says in the video. “I said, do not bring them anymore.”

These sweet videos come just ahead of Pat’s final days on Wheel of Fortune as Season 41 comes to an end on June 7. The longtime host, who has been on the show since 1981, will soon be replaced by Ryan Seacrest .

However, White will be staying on as co-host through the 2025-2026 season. And she’ll definitely have a thing or two to show Seacrest.

“I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White,” Seacrest said in a statement.

Pat’s last Wheel of Fortune episode airs Friday, June 7.
