How to save money on transport

One of the best ways to save money on travel with Tesco Clubcard is by redeeming your points with Tesco’s transport partners. There are lots of different transport perks you can access, such as money to spend on:

You’ll receive double the value of your points when redeeming Clubcard vouchers for transport deals. For example, £5 in vouchers gives you £10 to use with P&O Cruises.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

If you’re a frequent flyer like me, one of the best perks of Tesco Clubcard is the ability to redeem your points with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. This Club allows you to earn points every time you travel with Virgin, and you can use them to pay for your flights or cool upgrades, like first-class tickets.

Virgin Atlantic and Tesco work together so that you can convert every £1.50 in Clubcard vouchers into 300 Virgin Points . As someone who shops at Tesco and flies with Virgin Atlantic , it’s a win/win! But even if you’re not a member of the Flying Club, it’s free to join – so you can start making the most of two loyalty schemes at once.

• Price Match : If you come across a better exchange rate advertised within three miles of your local Tesco Travel Money Bureau on the same day, Tesco Bank will match it. This applies exclusively to in-store, like-for-like transactions and not to rates advertised online.
• Clubcard Prices : Tesco Clubcard holders can benefit from improved exchange rates by providing a valid Clubcard number. This perk is available only for online currency purchases.
• Buy Back Service : If you have any unused foreign currency remaining after your trip, you can exchange it back to Tesco Bank for pounds.

When you use the Wise card, it automatically converts your pounds to the local currency at the mid-market exchange rate, with no additional margins or markups. There is only a modest currency conversion fee, or none at all if you already have the currency in your Wise account.

Our Independent Review of Tesco Bank Travel Money

Tesco Bank Travel Money is a currency exchange provider that offers foreign currency services. As part of the largest supermarket chain in the U.K., Tesco Bank is very widely available with over 360 in-store money exchange locations and pre-order money collection from over 550 Tesco stores. They have minimum order amounts of £50 and maximum order amounts of £2,500. You can exchange money for more than 120 currencies. 

Tesco travel money is provided through a partnership with Travelex .

Tesco Bank Click and Collect for Foreign Currency

You can choose to order foreign currency online through your Tesco bank account. You can then have the money delivered directly to your home address or to a Tesco store. If you order euros or U.S. dollars before 2 PM, you can pick them up the next day from most Tesco Travel Money locations.  Other currencies can take up to five days. You can also order any currency for the next weekday delivery to most Tesco customer service desks.

You can choose a collection date for picking up your money and you’ll need to bring a valid photo ID—either a passport, or a full UK photographic driving license. You’ll also need to bring the card that you used to place the order. 

Tesco Bank Currency Exchange at Local Bureaux de Change

Tesco Bank also provides immediate money exchange at  360 in-store locations across the U.K. Many of these locations are open seven days a week with same-day collections on many popular currencies. 

Tesco Bank Home Delivery for Travel Money

If you order foreign currency before 2 PM from Monday to Thursday, you can get next day home delivery to most homes in the U.K. Orders of £500 or more and there’s a £3.95 delivery charge for orders under that amount. You will need to have someone available to sign for the delivery. 

Tesco Bank Prepaid Currency Card

Tesco Bank offers a “Cash Passport” travel card. You can load up to seven currencies on the card including euros, U.S. dollars, U.K. pounds, South African rands, Australian dollars, Canadian dollars and New Zealand dollars. Tesco Bank does not charge a commission on foreign purchases, although there is a 2% fee if you use the card in the U.K. The travel money card is only available at a Tesco Bank location. 

Tesco Bank International Money Transfer

Tesco Bank allows you to send money to an international account so you can make a payment or deposit money with family or friends. Tesco Bank has a partnership with MoneyGram . This means you can send money to over 200 countries around the world. MoneyGram can’t be used for business transactions. 

You can send money through the MoneyGram app or by paying with a debit card or cash at a Tesco Bank location. Beneficiaries can get money deposited into their bank account, transferred to a mobile wallet or they can pick it up in cash at a MoneyGram agent location. Money transfers can take anything from a few minutes to a couple of working days. 

You can also collect 50 Tesco Clubcard points every time you send £50 or more.

No Card Fees Charged by Tesco Bank

Whether you buy online or in-store, Tesco Bank does not charge any card processing fees, although you may be charged by your card provider.

Tesco Bank Price Guarantee

Tesco Bank provides a price match guarantee on local bureau de change orders. This does not apply to online orders. Here’s what Tesco Bank says about its price guarantee:

“If you find a better exchange rate advertised by another provider within three miles of your chosen Tesco Travel Money Bureau, on the same day, we'll match it.

Price Match only applies in store on a like-for-like basis on sell transactions and does not apply to any exchange rate advertised online or by phone. This is not available in conjunction with any other offer. We reserve the right to verify the rate you have found and the three-mile distance (using an appropriate route planning tool).”

Tesco Travel Money Fees & Exchange Rates

In most cases, Tesco Bank makes its money on the difference between the “base,” interbank* exchange rate and the exchange rate that they charge to you. However, some services such as international money transfers do incur additional fees. 

*The interbank rate is also known as the mid-market or standard exchange rate, which is the midpoint between the buying and the selling prices of the two currencies.

Click and Collect Fees

There is no additional fee for Click and Collect orders, although if you cancel a Click and Collect order less than 24 hours before your collection date you will be charged a £10 late cancellation fee.

Tesco Bank Travel Money Money Card Fees

• Tesco Bank does not charge a commission on foreign purchases, although there is a 2% fee if you use the card in the U.K.
• There is a fee for ATM withdrawals as follows: GB £1.50, EU €1.75, US $2.30, AU $2.30, CA $2.40, NZ $3.00, ZA R20. Some cash machine operators charge an extra fee
• There may be other fees associated with the travel money card, you can get details of these fees from a Tesco Bank location

Tesco Bank Travel Money Money Card Limits

Tesco Bank locations will have details on any limits applicable to your travel money card. 

Overseas Money Transfer Fees

Tesco Bank has a partnership with MoneyGram and they do charge a fee for sending money directly to some countries. Typically, the fee charged by MoneyGram is £3.99.

About Fees Levied by Banks

Certain fees may be levied by banks when you are transferring money to another account. These fees are outside the control of Tesco Bank Travel Money. Circumstances, where banks may charge additional fees, include:

• Wire transfers into or out of sender or beneficiary accounts
• Transfers that are sent via SWIFT or certain other banking protocols
• Beneficiary banks charge a fee to receive a transfer
• Intermediary banks charge fees to process money in transit

These fees could mean that the beneficiary receives less money than stated by Tesco Bank Travel Money due to circumstances beyond Tesco Bank Travel Money’s control. If you want to understand what these extra fees are likely to be, please contact your bank and the beneficiary's bank.

Tesco Bank Travel Money Exchange Rates for Online Travel Money

Tesco does offer better exchange rates the more you order. You can start to access these better exchange rates when you buy £800 or more of foreign currency.

Tesco Bank Travel Money makes most of its money on the difference between the exchange rate they offer to customers and the base exchange rate. For example, the base rate to convert U.K pounds into euros is 1.146 euros per pound. Tesco Bank Travel Money offers an exchange rate of 1.125 euros per pound, a difference of 2%. That means if you’re exchanging 1,000 pounds into euros, you’ll pay an exchange rate fee of around £20.

Exchanging 1,000 U.K. Pounds Into Australian Dollars

• Base exchange rate, 1,000 GBP converts to 1,862 AUD
• Tesco Bank Travel Money online exchange rate, 1,000 GBP converts to 1,819 AUD
• The Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate is 2.3% more expensive, or around 23 GBP in exchange rate fees

Exchanging 1,000 U.K. Pounds Into Danish Krone

• Base exchange rate, 1,000 GBP converts to 8,560 DKK
• Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate, 1,000 GBP converts to 8,107 DKK
• The Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate is 5.2% more expensive, or around 52 GBP in exchange rate fees

Exchanging 1,000 U.K. Pounds Into U.S. Dollars

• Base exchange rate, 1,000 GBP converts to 1,265 USD
• Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate, 1,000 GBP converts to 1,244 USD
• The Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate is 1.7% more expensive, or around 17 GBP in exchange rate fees

If you’re purchasing currency online or you want to transfer money to an overseas account, you can get much better deals by comparing specialist currency exchange providers . Several money exchange services have overall fees of 1% or lower, even when taking into account differences in exchange rates.

• The Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate is 4% more expensive, or around 20 GBP in exchange rate fees

Sending 1,000 U.K. Pounds to a South African Rand Account

• Base exchange rate, 500 GBP converts to 9,343 ZAR
• Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate, 500 GBP converts to 8,551 ZAR
• The Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate is 8.5% more expensive, or around 43 GBP in exchange rate fees

Sending 1,000 U.K. Pounds to a New Zealand Dollar Account

• Base exchange rate, 500 GBP converts to 999 NZD
• Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate, 500 GBP converts to 937 NZD
• The Tesco Bank Travel Money exchange rate is 6.3% more expensive, or around 31 GBP in exchange rate fees

Customer Satisfaction

Tesco Bank Money scored very poorly for customer satisfaction on Trustpilot, achieving a score of just 1.4 out of 5 across more than 600 reviews. Around 11% of reviews said that they were “excellent” or “great” compared to 88% of reviews that said they were “poor” or “bad.” Note that these reviews were across Tesco Bank Money as a whole, not just for travel money or currency or online overseas transfers. 

We could not find any positive reviews for Tesco Bank’s travel money service. 

There were numerous negative reviews including problems with discrepancies in the amount of foreign currency received, complaints about customer service and issues of the late arrival of travel money. A typical review was, “Ordered travel money from Tesco. When counting the travel money, a significant amount was missing coming to the approximate value of £35. Tesco investigated and found no discrepancies. So I am £35 out of pocket due to their incompetence. Do not order travel money off Tesco.”

How Tesco Bank Travel Money works

If you want to pick up travel money in person, the individual who ordered the travel money must collect it. You will need to have an order reference number and the card you used to pay for your order. You will also need to know your card's PIN to verify your order. You should also have a valid photo ID like a passport, full photographic driving license or an EU ID card. 

Here’s what you’ll need to make a money transfer with MoneyGram.

• If you have a MoneyGram account you can log in, otherwise, you will need to create a new account
• Decide how much you’d like to send and where you want to send it to
• Enter all the required information about the beneficiary, this might include their name, address, bank account details, and other personal data

Tesco Bank launches Travel Insurance

Tesco Bank has expanded its offering to customers with the launch of travel insurance.

Tesco Bank Travel Insurance will include Covid-19 cover as standard, to help protect customers who test positive and experience Covid-19 related disruption, either before or during their trip.

Three tiers of cover are available to suit a range of customer needs, offering different levels of protection for travel and belongings.  All policies come with core features that include cover for medical expenses, trip cancellation or delays, and lost or stolen baggage or money.

Customers can also tailor their policy with a range of helpful optional extras and add-ons, such as gadget protection and Winter Sports Cover.

Two specialist products are available aimed at backpacker travellers and customers aged over 80.

Policyholders will enjoy helpful rewards, including the ability for children under 16 to be covered for free on single and annual multi trip policies and the chance to save money on their travel insurance when they buy Tesco Travel Money first. Tesco Clubcard members who buy direct can save 5% and collect Clubcard points when they provide their Clubcard number.

TESCO shoppers have just hours left to check their Clubcard vouchers before they expire at midnight.

The supermarket has said that there are £20million worth of triple points voucher codes expiring this evening.

If you fail to redeem these codes by 11:59 p.m. this evening, you'll miss out on the triple points offer for good.

Tesco's  Clubcard scheme works by offering you points on any purchases made in-store or online.

These points can then be used to get  money  off future shops.

But you can also increase the value of the points by redeeming them with one of Tesco 's partners.

It is urging customers to use them up before they become invalid.

It is understood some, but not all, of the Rewards Partner codes are worth triple value.

This is because points redeemed with partners used to be worth triple their face value until this was  changed to double last June .

When Tesco announced the change last year, it said any codes redeemed before the June 13 deadline would be valid for a year instead of six months.

That means anyone who requested the codes before this deadline has until 11.59pm this evening to redeem them.

Tesco emailed customers in May urging shoppers to use the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard app to check if any of their reward codes are nearing expiration.

How to save money on your supermarket shop

THERE are plenty of ways to save on your grocery shop.

You can look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they've been reduced.

If the food is fresh, you'll have to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

You earn points as you shop, which can then be turned into vouchers for money off  food  or with Reward partners.

You earn one point for each £1 spent, and each point is then worth 1p.

So 150 points gets you £1.50, and you would have to spend £150 to get 150 points.

You need a minimum of 150 points to request a voucher.

Any vouchers are worth their face value when used in-store at Tesco.

But you can double their worth by spending them at one of the supermarket chain's partners.

Any Clubcard points turned into vouchers expire after two years.

Any vouchers transferred into Reward Partner codes expire after six months.

Loyalty card holders also get access to over 8,000 items for less through Clubcard Prices.

T esco Clubcard holders have been warned they have "just hours" left to act. Today marks the last chance for Tesco Clubcard shoppers to check for vouchers as they have just HOURS until they expire up and down the country.

Tesco has said that there are £20million worth of triple points voucher codes expiring this evening. Tesco shoppers should check if their vouchers are worth triple points before midnight, the biggest grocer in the UK warned.

The biggest supermarket chain in the UK is reminding customers that £20million in Clubcard voucher points are set to expire at midnight.

In order to avoid losing out on the triple points offer, customers need to redeem vouchers by 11:59pm tonight (June 13).

Thanks to Tesco's Clubcard scheme, households are able to earn points on purchases made while visiting one of the retailer's stores or buying items online.

These points can be used to reduce the price of the weekly supermarket shop which translates to big savings for families amid the ongoing cost of living crisis.

However, Tesco shoppers can also exchange vouchers for double their their value at over 100 brands and retailers that are Clubcard Reward Partners.

Tesco has warned vouchers worth millions of pounds are set to expire

Among the participating businesses in this initiative include Pizza Express, Alton Towers Resort and Hotels.com.

Last month, Tesco warned that there are millions of pounds in ClubCard Reward Partner codes that are set to expire today.

At the beginning of May, there was £27million in expiring vouchers for Clubcard Reward Partners that had to be used.

This included more than £16million in vouchers that can be used for activities such as days out with the family or eating out at restaurants.

Ahead of the deadline tonight, Tesco has sent emails to customers and encouraged them to check their Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app to check to see if any of their vouchers or reward codes are set to run out.

In May, Ashwin Prasad, the supermarket's chief commercial officer, outlined what shoppers are at risk of losing if they let vouchers expire.

He said: "People across the UK will be looking forward to two Bank Holiday weekends in May and thinking about how they can make the most of them.

Tesco Clubcard holders can use the power of Clubcard to unlock all sorts of Bank Holiday fun, from saving on their shopping when they pick up their BBQ food, or to exchanging for double the value with 100-plus Reward Partners, offering everything from fun days out for the family to meals out at some of the UK’s most-popular restaurant chains.

“With millions of vouchers expiring at the end of this month, we are urging everyone to make the most of their Clubcard this May and check to see if any vouchers or reward codes are expiring.”

Shoppers need to spend to spend £150 to earn 150 points, which equates to £1.50.

Points converted into vouchers expire after two years with vouchers transferred into Reward Partner codes expiring after only a six-month period.

As Tesco unveils its online Marketplace across homeware, toys and DIY, we look at its product range, delivery fees and Clubcard options.

Tesco has this week launched its online Marketplace that will allow customers to shop for thousands of third-party items alongside their groceries.

At present, the site offers approximately 9,000 products in ranges such as pet care, homeware, DIY, gardening, toys, and baby and toddler.

However, the supermarket told industry publication The Grocer that its eventual aim is to create “a one-stop shop for everything customers need”.

How does it work?

Although Marketplace items are listed alongside the supermarket’s own products, they will be supplied directly by the third-party seller.

All non-Tesco goods will be marked with a ‘Marketplace’ label on the supermarket’s website and in its app.

The listing will also display the seller’s name and any special delivery instructions.

Items that you order through Marketplace will be delivered separately from your standard Tesco shop (either by post or courier).

Once you have placed an order through Marketplace, the seller will contact you to confirm your order and provide any updates on your delivery.

How will I pay for Marketplace items?

While you can search for Marketplace goods at the same time as your usual grocery shop, you will pay for them separately.

In good news for those who like to receive rewards on their supermarket shop, you’ll still earn Clubcard points on any Marketplace purchases.

As with standard Tesco purchases, you’ll receive one point for every pound that you spend through Marketplace.

At the time of writing, you can’t redeem your Clubcard vouchers against Marketplace items, although the supermarket hopes to add this feature in the future.

How to boost your Tesco Clubcard points

How much is delivery?

Marketplace purchases have a minimum spend of £50 and baskets below this amount will incur a £3 delivery fee.

Note, customers with a Delivery Saver Anytime Plan will receive free standard delivery on Marketplace items.

If you choose the express delivery option, you’ll pay a fee of up to £6.

Large or heavy items may incur an addition £10 fee on standard deliveries, which increases to £20 on express deliveries.

How long do deliveries take?

If you opt for standard delivery, your items should arrive within three to five working days.

Alternatively, you can choose express delivery in which goods items will arrive within one to two working days.

Be aware, that some third-party suppliers have a delivery cut-off time, which means that items ordered after a certain time won’t be processed until the following working day.

Can I cancel an order?

Once you have placed an order, you can cancel the transaction if it hasn’t been processed or sent out for delivery.

If the item has been dispatched, you’ll need to wait until it has arrived and then arrange a return with the supplier.

How do returns work?

If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can request a return via the third-party seller within 30 days.

The seller should then offer you a refund and help arrange collection.

If any item is unwanted, you’ll need to return it in its original condition, and you can’t return personalised items.

The company states that you should return faulty goods without any additional damage.

Tesco sees food sales grow as inflation eases

The grocery giant says its market share is growing at its fastest rate than at any time in the last two years, citing the price matching of discounter Aldi on key items and its clubcard loyalty scheme, which provides lower prices for members.

Tesco says it has recorded a "strong" rise in retail sales in the latest quarter - buoyed by easing inflation.

The UK's largest supermarket also said its market share was growing at its fastest rate than at any time in the last two years.

The grocery giant reported sales grew across the group, including Ireland, by 3.4% to £15.3bn in the 13 weeks to 25 May, compared with the same period last year.

Its performance was even stronger at home - its UK market seeing a rise of 4.6% to £11.4bn.

This came on the back of a 5% increase in food sales, with high demand for fresh produce helping to drive higher sales volumes.

Sales of Tesco Finest products also grew "strongly" amid demand by shoppers for premium products.

The firm's market share rose by more than 50 basis points to 27.6% in the 12 weeks to 12 May year on year, according to market researcher Kantar.

Tesco highlighted its strategy of matching the prices of discounter Aldi on key items and its clubcard loyalty scheme, which provides lower prices for members.

These initiatives are being funded by reducing business costs, with a further £500m of savings targeted for 2024/25.

With sales trends in line with expectations, Tesco said it expects to deliver an operating profit of at least £2.8bn for the current financial year, holding its target set in April.

'Strong volume growth'

Tesco chief executive Ken Murphy said: "We've continued to build momentum in the business, with strong volume growth across the UK, Republic of Ireland and central Europe supported by easing inflation."

He added: "Our market share reflects this, growing more than at any other time in the past two years, with customers switching to us from other retailers, shopping with us more often and with more in their baskets."

The results announcement came ahead of the retailer's annual general meeting, where Mr Murphy was expected to face scrutiny after receiving a £9.93m pay package for the past year.

It compared with a £4.44m total pay deal for the previous financial year and means the boss has been paid 431 times the wage of the average Tesco worker - £23,010.

Mr Murphy said: "I absolutely accept that I'm well paid."

Tesco chairman Gerry Murphy, who is no relation to the chief executive, said: "I have no difficulty in defending Ken's absolute level of pay given the complexity (and) scale of the business, but also particularly its performance."

He added: "We do recruit from time to time at very senior levels from the global market and frankly we just have to be competitive with that market."
