It's advisable to consult a doctor if you are bitten by a tick.

The primary areas at risk include Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, along with some parts of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Thuringia. We suggest considering a TBE vaccine if you plan to spend considerable time in rural areas.

United Kingdom Visa Types

VisaHQ is an online platform for eligible visa-exempt travelers to the UK to apply for their online visas. The platform offers such travelers two options based on nationality; the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) and the Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW). Each one is designed to cater to the needs of short-term visitors to the UK coming for tourism, business, medical treatment, or transit. Only travelers from eligible countries may apply for one or the other, but by 2024, all visa-exempt visitors will be made to apply for ETAs only as the EVW will be scrapped.

Note: Visa-exempt  visitors who enter the UK through the Republic of Ireland can only stay for three months, not six months.

Below, we review the ETA and ETW with updated information regarding their requirements, validity, processing times, and application fees. Kindly read on to learn more.

United Kingdom Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW)

The United Kingdom’s Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) is an online travel permit issued to travelers from selected nations coming to the UK for short, non-economic visits. This document is not a visa but a visa waiver offered to citizens of the GCC states, which are

  • United Arab Emirates
  • Saudi Arabia

These countries are on the UK’s visa-free list, so their citizens can enter and stay for up to 180 days. The EVW is issued for business and tourism, so holders are not allowed to work or study at any of the universities or colleges in the country. The electronic visa waiver is a single-use travel document that cannot be used multiple times.

Holders can also use it for medical treatment or short non-college credit studies. Kindly note that you apply for your EVW not earlier than 72 hours and later than 3 months before your trip.

Note: The EVW will be phased out by 2024, so GCC applicants will have to apply for ETA in the future.

Port of Entry

You can use your EVW to the United Kingdom through international airports, border crossings, and sea ports.

All passengers traveling to UK must complete Health declaration form within the 48 hours prior to the flight.

Visa policy of the united kingdom.

The United Kingdom has a visa policy designed by His Majesty’s government to regulate the entry and exit of foreigners. The visa requirements of visitors to the UK, Crown dependencies of Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man, or even those seeking to work or study in any of these regions, are determined based on the visa policy. The body responsible for all aspects of border control and immigration is the Home Office which derives its authority from the Immigration Act (1971).

The Immigration Act (1971) is the basic law that regulates immigration in the UK. This law empowers the SSHD to make rules and regulate the entry and stay of foreigners in the UK. It also designates categories of visitors based on their nationality, education, skill, level, etc. These rules are subject to frequent changes, so travelers must study them before applying or coming to the UK.

The visa policy also covers the Common Travel Area, which the United Kingdom shares with the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands, and shares some similarities with the visa laws of British Overseas Territories. Before the 31st of January 2020, citizens from European Union countries were allowed freedom of entry and exit from the UK but all that changed after Brexit when the UK left the European Union. Now persons of EU nationality can still enter the UK visa-free, but they must apply for and secure an Electronic Travel Authorization.

Lastly, you should know that the visa policy of the UK categorizes foreign nationals into two broad groups; Visa Exempt visitors and non-visa-exempt visitors. Those from visa-exempt countries do not require visas to enter the UK but an entry permit which may be an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) or an Electronic Visa Waiver (ETW). As for nationals in the non-visa-exempt group, they need visas to enter the UK.

Key Information About UK Online Travel Documents

Before traveling to the United Kingdom in an online entry pass, you should take note of the following

Be Sure Of Your Eligibility: Always be certain of your eligibility before submitting your. ETAs are for persons from selected visa free countries while EVW is strictly for persons from Gulf countries. If you submit your application despite being ineligible, your application will be denied.

Avoid Illegal Routes: There are dozens of illegal routes and into the UK especially from the Southern Coast. You are advised to avoid these routes because they are hazardous and dangerous. Only use approved routes to enter the UK for your own safety.

Use The Same Passport: Always use the same Passport you used for the application, not a different one. The UK border control agents will demand to see your visa before letting you in; since what you have is an ETA or EVW they will generate it using the number on your passport. If you travel with a different passport you will not be allowed into the country. If your passport will soon expire, apply for a new one before submitting your application for ETA or EVW.

Extra Documentation For Minors: The UK government has very strict regulations for traveling minors and they have zero tolerance for child trafficking. Do not be surprised if you are asked many questions at the entry port or asked to provide documents to prove that the child you are traveling with is yours or you are their legal guardian. To prove legal guardianship you must show a parental consent form duly notarized and signed by the child's parents. If the child is yours, you must provide valid birth certificates for you and the child.

Don't Overstay: Never stay beyond the maximum days allowed under the ETA and EVW arrangements.  ETA and EVW holders can stay in the United Kingdom for up to 6 months at a time but spending a day longer will be treated as a violation. There are different fines and sanctions for illegal immigrants so be conscious of time.

Don't Work: You are not allowed to work in the UK with an ETA or EVW. Only persons with work visas are allowed to work.  Business visitors are free to transact business during their time in the country but cannot engage in any Employment that will earn them direct pay.

These are important Caveats to bear in mind as you prepare for your trip to the United Kingdom.

Entry requirements

This information is for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK. It is based on the UK government’s understanding of the current rules for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Germany set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the German Embassy in the UK .

COVID-19 rules

There are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travellers entering Germany.

Passport validity requirements

Germany follows Schengen area rules . Your passport must:

  • have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
  • have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

If you have a residence permit, you must have a valid passport for the duration of your stay. Renew it before the expiry date.

Visa requirements

You can travel without a visa to the Schengen area , which includes Germany, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies if you travel:

  • as a tourist
  • to visit family or friends
  • to attend business meetings, cultural or sports events
  • for short-term studies or training

The requirements for working in Germany are different.

If you’re travelling to other Schengen countries as well, make sure your whole visit is within the 90-day limit. Visits to Schengen countries in the 180 days before you travel count towards your 90 days.

Make sure you get your passport stamped on entry and exit.

If you’re a visitor, border guards will look at your entry and exit stamps to check you have not overstayed the 90-day visa-free limit for the Schengen area.

If your passport is missing a stamp, show evidence of when and where you entered or left the Schengen area (for example, boarding passes or tickets) and ask the border guards to add the date and location in your passport.

At German border control, you may need to:

  • show a return or onward ticket
  • prove that you have enough money for your stay

Staying longer than 90 days in a 180-day period

To stay longer, you must meet the German government’s entry requirements. Check which type of visa or permit you need with the  German Embassy in the UK .

If you’re in Germany with a residence permit or long-stay visa, this does not count towards your 90-day visa-free limit.

Read about passport stamping if you live in Germany .

Vaccine requirements

For details about medical entry requirements and recommended vaccinations, see TravelHealthPro’s Germany guide .

Customs rules

There are strict rules about goods you can take into and out of Germany . You must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty.

Taking food into Germany

You cannot take meat, milk or products containing them into EU countries . There are some exceptions such as powdered baby milk, baby food and special foods or pet feed required for medical reasons.

Taking money into Germany

You must declare any amount above 10,000 euros in cash or other payment types. You can find more information on the German Federal Foreign Office website.

His wife Heidi joined Dietz and Klinsmann in bringing the Henri Delaunay Cup the trophy

Beckenbauer

Munich: UEFA paid tribute to Germany's late World Cup-winning captain and coach Franz Beckenbauer during the Euro 2024 opening ceremony on Friday, with fans applauding as videos of one of Germany's greatest players were shown in the Munich stadium.

"We will never forget you," said an announcement.

Beckenbauer, who died in January aged 78, captained West Germany to European Championship victory in 1972 and a World Cup success in 1974 before winning the World Cup as national team manager in 1990.

"Der Kaiser", as he was nicknamed for his imperious playing style and command of the game, was also a stalwart of the Bayern Munich team who won the European Cup three times in a row from 1974-76.

His wife Heidi joined Bernard Dietz and Juergen Klinsmann, who captained the Germany sides that won Euro 1980 and Euro 1996, in bringing the Henri Delaunay Cup the trophy which will be presented to Euro 2024's winning team - on to the pitch.
