Catherine Martin, Ireland’s Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media is leading Tourism Ireland’s sales mission to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This is Tourism Ireland’s biggest ever sales mission to the Middle East, with a record 17 tourism businesses from the country taking part.

She also launched St Patrick’s Festival at Expo 2020 Dubai on February 15. St. Patrick's Day (SPD) is a global celebration of Irish culture that takes place on March 17.

Martin spoke exclusively with Khaleej Times .

Edited excerpts from the interview:

What is the significance of SPD in Ireland, which is observed on March 17?

St. Patrick’s Day is Ireland’s National Day and is celebrated all around the world; by our citizens, our 80 million strong diaspora and friends of Ireland. Our celebrations in Ireland take many forms, from local parades and céilís, to the major St. Patrick’s Festival that will bring Dublin to life between March 16 and 20. It’s an opportunity for us to come together as a national and global community and celebrate our Irishness and the very best of Irish culture, heritage and kinship. Ireland is reopening after a very difficult period and SPD provides a perfect opportunity to rebuild connections. Of course, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were not able to travel and celebrate as we would have liked last year, so 2022 will provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase Ireland as a great place to live, visit, work, study, and invest, through the Global Ireland programme.

What can visitors at Expo 2020 Dubai and the Ireland Pavilion expect on March 17?

Ireland’s culture of creativity and innovation will be brought to life on March 17, through culture, sport, screen, business and community events along with the iconic ‘Greening’ of Expo 202 Dubai landmarks with Tourism Ireland. Iconic landmarks across Expo 2020 Dubai, such as Al Wasl Plaza, Expo Sports Arena and, of course, the Ireland Pavilion will light up in green in honour. Global Greening is an international phenomenon, which takes place every SPD and has seen the world’s most iconic buildings, landmarks and natural wonders such as the Sydney Opera House, Niagara Falls and the Leaning Tower of Pisa lit up in green.

The Expo will host a programme of National Day events for Ireland, including a ceremony at Al Wasl Plaza, the jewel of the showpiece event. The Ireland pavilion will partner with the Irish Business Network (IBN) Dubai to host their annual flagship SPD breakfast event at Expo. The IBN is a vibrant and active business organisation supporting Irish businesses and professionals living in Dubai who are Irish or have an affiliation with Ireland. This event will provide a strong business element to Ireland’s SPD programme at Expo.

A gala performance led by world-renowned instrumentalist, Martin Hayes, will reflect the breadth and vibrancy of modern Irish music and feature some of Ireland’s finest musicians. Ireland will have an exciting opportunity to stage a musical performance in the special Al Wasl Plaza, inclusive of an immersive, bespoke audio-visual show. The musical heart of Ireland’s presence at Expo, and indeed the St. Patrick’s Festival at Expo, will be our Expo Players, who animate the Pavilion courtyard each day performing Irish music and tracks from the Irish Songbook. The Expo players are drawn from a deep well of Irish musical talent and introduce audiences to Irish music, its history, instruments and stories.

The Irish Songbook is a special project for Expo focused on iconic Irish songs and St. Patrick’s Festival will see the launch of The Great Irish Songbook The Album .

We are also partnering with Screen Ireland, Galway Film Fleadh and Cartoon Saloon to stage a full animation festival at Expo, running from March 15 to 17. Irish animation is a huge success around the world and showcases the best of Ireland’s creativity and innovation. Cartoon Saloon have created a special edit from some of their major, Oscar nominated, films (including Wolfwalkers, Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea) which will be shown in the iconic 360 degree Al Wasl Plaza.

No SPD celebration would be complete without a parade and the Expo St. Patricks’ Parade will be led by Irish Defence Force pipers and our incredible Irish community. The Ireland pavilion will also partner with the IBN Dubai to host their annual flagship SPD breakfast event at the Expo. The IBN is a vibrant and active business organisation supporting Irish businesses and professionals living in Dubai who are Irish or have an affiliation with Ireland. This major event will provide a strong business element to Ireland’s St. Patrick’s Festival at Expo.

The Irish Pavilion will partner with Sport Ireland to deliver a sporting element to St. Patrick’s Festival at the Expo that will excite and energise the Irish and wider Expo community, placing an emphasis on health and wellbeing. The local Irish sporting community (GAA and soccer) will come together for a special family-fun day and blitz, with Irish sporting heroes as guests of honour. This will extend to family members of all ages as prominent Irish sport and fitness personality Maeve Madden will lead an outdoor, free fitness class that will be certain to draw crowds.

I am sure you will agree it is a jam-packed programme of events! All friends of Ireland and Irish citizens in the UAE are invited to join us.

What are the unique features of Irish culture that resonate with a Middle Eastern audience?

Irish and Emirati cultures share many aspects — we value family, prioritise shared experiences, produce inspiring music and have a strong sense of national pride. In Ireland, we are known for being a land of céad míle fáilte, or ‘one hundred, thousand welcomes’ and this is certainly mirrored in the UAE, where you are famous for your hospitality and warmth, especially to visitors. These similarities were reflected in the mesmerising Riverdance at Expo residency in November, which seamlessly incorporated elements of middle-eastern culture and music.

How is Ireland trying to promote its tourism in the UAE and Middle East?

Tourism Ireland promotes the island of Ireland through an extensive, multi-channel marketing programme, which includes advertising, digital and social media activity, publicity, email marketing, as well as trade and consumer promotions and co-operative activity with key airline and travel trade partners.

Tourism Ireland’s sales mission to the Middle East this week is its biggest ever. We have a record 17 tourism companies who have travelled here from Ireland this week. They are taking part in workshops and networking events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, to meet and conclude deals with over 200 tour operators and travel agents. A third workshop involved the partners from Ireland meeting luxury travel buyers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Tourism Ireland’s 2022 Green Button advertising campaign will go live here in the UAE in February and will run until the end of April on multiple channels, including digital, radio and outdoor. It will reach around two million potential holidaymakers. The campaign delivers a very clear ‘book now’ message and aims to single-mindedly drive visitor numbers and intention to book a trip to the island of Ireland this year.

At Expo 2020 Dubai, Tourism Ireland has a Green Button installation in the main thoroughfare of the Ireland pavilion. A series of videos promoting the island of Ireland is running on the giant installation. Visitors can ‘press the Green Button’ and find out about the wide variety of superb experiences and attractions on offer, encouraging them to book their next holiday to the island of Ireland.

Tourism Ireland is also promoting our world-class golf. Key events include the Irish Open at Mount Juliet this summer, The Open returning to Royal Portrush in 2025 and the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in 2027. In January, Tourism Ireland had a stand at the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi and at the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.

Tourism Ireland also has an extensive publicity programme, targeting print, broadcast and online media and influencers in the UAE, with positive stories about Ireland. There are lots of great things happening in Ireland this year and Tourism Ireland is sharing all those positive stories with the media – including the centenary of the publication of novelist James Joyce’s Ulysses , the designation of Belfast as a UNESCO City of Music, the recent opening of the new Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Northern Ireland, and much more.

Tourism Ireland will also partner with key travel trade partners. For example, a campaign with WeGo — the biggest online travel agent in the Middle East — will kick off on digital channels in March, to coincide with SPD. It will run until June, including around Ramadan, which starts on April 2.

Ramadan is an important period for online research and booking for the Eid-al-Fitr break that follows Ramadan.

Social media is another important platform for Tourism Ireland to tell prospective visitors about the many great reasons to choose Ireland; Tourism Ireland has 127,000 Facebook fans in the Middle East, around 20,500 Twitter followers and almost 3,000 followers on Instagram.

All this activity is enhanced with support in the region from ‘Team Ireland’ — the Irish Embassy, Bord Bia, IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and Invest NI — leveraging Tourism Ireland’s marketing activities in the GCC through partnerships, communication, attendance and knowledge-sharing.

Talk us through your new “Green Button” marketing campaign.

Ireland, like the rest of the world, bore the brunt owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. What measures did you take to keep the momentum going as far as tourism was concerned?

Tourism Ireland’s never stopped keeping the lights on for Ireland promoting the best of Ireland through the media, consumer and trade digital channels. Our objective was to keep Ireland front of mind and our ambition was to inspire people around the world to ‘fill their hearts’ with the island of Ireland.

This initiative, using the hashtag #FillYourHeartWithIreland, involved sharing inspirational content that spoke to the world during a difficult time and connected people with the island of Ireland. It included Tourism Ireland’s short, behind-the-scenes film created during filming for the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s popular novel Normal People. It covered a range of themes to bring the best of Ireland onto people’s screens and make them smile — from enjoying a trad music session to learning how to Irish dance, taking a virtual tour of our towns and villages, listening to the words of our Nobel Laureate poets and playwrights or even enjoying a fun TikTok video from Ireland.

In addition to many horizontal/economies wide supports, the Irish Government also introduced several tourism specific supports and initiatives, designed to support strategic tourism businesses survive through the pandemic and to help drive the recovery of the sector. These included several Business Continuity Schemes designed to help tourism businesses such as Accommodation Providers, Transport Operators, Tourism Agents, Tourism Attractions and Tourism Activity Operators, to offset their fixed costs and to continue operating.

An Outdoor Dining Enhancement Scheme, was introduced for developing outdoor dining capacity nationwide by supporting Local Authorities and hospitality businesses with upgrading and enhancing streets and public spaces and implementing weather-proofing solutions to facilitate year-round outdoor dining.

A Business Adaptation Scheme was introduced to help contribute to the costs of implementing public health measures through grant payments to make either the structural adaptations required for fixed, visitor-facing premises, or to cover the cost of Covid-19 related consumables (such as sanitiser or Personal Protective Equipment).

Our National Tourism Development Authority, Fáilte Ireland, also provided an extensive range of non-financial business support to guide businesses through operating their business during Covid-19.

How has been the response to the Ireland Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai?

The response to Ireland’s presence at Expo 2020 Dubai has been outstanding. We have had hundreds of thousands of visitors, who have responded very positively to our theme; ‘Island of inspiration: putting creativity at the centre of the human experience’. Creativity and innovation are at the heart of our offering — from our inspiring Maker’s Gallery, to our vibrant Expo players, whose live music lights up our courtyard each and every day. Our theme really harmonises with the overall Expo objective of Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. Our beautiful pavilion, designed by Irish architects, draws inspiration from ancient Irish and middle-eastern cultures. It is an oasis of calm and inspiration in the hustle and bustle of Expo and visitors have spoken highly of our warm Irish welcome from our knowledgeable Irish Pavilion Officers.

Of course, we started with a bang in November with the Riverdance at Expo residency which ran throughout the whole month of November, with 22 performances at Jubilee Park, pop-up performances and masterclasses. Our unforgettable Expo World Choir event in December also brought the Expo community together, with singers of 146 nationalities registering to take part and represent their countries. Our presence at Expo has had an incredible response, including almost 550 media pieces and fantastic engagement on social media platforms.

Emirates collaborates with Tourism Ireland to increase inbound traffic

' src=

Emirates has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tourism Ireland to boost inbound tourism to Ireland through the airline’s global network of more than 140 destinations.  The MoU was signed by Thierry Aucoc, Emirates Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Europe and David Boyce, Head of Emerging Markets at Tourism Ireland.

Under the collaboration, Emirates and Tourism Ireland will seek to explore joint advertising campaigns to boost visitor traffic to Ireland from key strategic markets across the Emirates network including Australia, the UAE and New Zealand.

“Through our new partnership with Tourism Ireland, we aim to play an active role in promoting tourism growth to the island of Ireland. With our strong network and track-record of working with partners through trade and consumer initiatives, we’re well placed to support Ireland’s tourism ambitions. Ireland is one of the most attractive gateways in our European network due to its cultural highlights and world-renowned heritage sites, and we will continue to offer seamless connectivity for travellers from across our network to visit the popular destination,” said Adnan Kazim, Emirates Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer.

David Boyce, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Emerging Markets, said: “As an island destination, we know there’s a proven direct correlation between access and growth in visitor numbers. We look forward to continued close co-operation with Emirates, as we seek to maximise opportunities to grow tourism from the Middle East and beyond.”

The airline currently serves the Irish capital with a double daily flight, utilising its wide-body Boeing 777-300ER aircraft – carrying up to 1,440 customers each day on the Dublin-Dubai route.

SkyCargo, Emirates’ freight division, also continues to play a vital role in its Irish operation, with each Boeing 777 on the Dublin route carrying up to 25 tonnes of cargo including pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, electronics, seafood, dairy and even thoroughbred horses, who are exquisitely looked after onboard. Emirates SkyCargo helps to support Irish businesses and Ireland’s thriving export market.  Emirates connects Irish exporters with customers in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Sydney, Singapore and many other destinations in the Middle East, Asia, India and across the globe. The airline also carries a number of Irish products onboard for passengers to enjoy including VOYA, Killowen Yogurt and Keogh’s Crisps.

Island Of Ireland Promoted In London And Dubai

The island of Ireland is being promoted in London and Dubai this week.

A Taste Of Ireland At Flavours Of Ireland Event In London

Tourism Ireland stated, "Some 60 tourism companies from Ireland attended Flavours of Ireland 2021 in London, this week. Flavours is Tourism Ireland's annual B2B tourism workshop, where tourism companies from Ireland meet and do business with top global inbound tour operators.

"Now in its 19 th  year, Flavours - which took place virtually in 2020 - was an in-person event once again this year. It was held in the beautiful Guildhall, in the City of London, and was attended by around 100 top global inbound tour operators who deliver business from all over the world, including the US, Mainland Europe, Asia, Australasia and Africa.

"This year, Flavours is of particular importance, as overseas tourism restarts and the participating global inbound tour operators prepare to sign contracts for 2022 and 2023. It is, therefore, a key time for the participating tourism companies from Ireland to highlight and sell their product to these important decision-makers.

"David Boyce, Tourism Ireland 's Head of Global Inbound and Emerging Markets, said, 'Tourism Ireland is delighted that so many tourism organisations from Ireland and so many leading global inbound tour operators took the time to join us at our annual Flavours of Ireland event - which was an in-person event once again this year. Before COVID-19, these tour operators were responsible for delivering millions of bed-nights to Ireland. As overseas tourism restarts and the participating tour operators prepare to sign contracts for 2022 and 2023, we very much welcome the business and networking opportunities it presented. Our aim is to increase awareness of Ireland among these hugely influential global inbound tour operators and to help Ireland and our tourism partners secure a greater share of the huge worldwide tourism market.'" Tourism Ireland And Partners Attend TFest In Dubai

In a separate statement, Tourism Ireland said, "Eight tourism businesses from Ireland are joining Tourism Ireland in person in Dubai this week for TFest - a luxury travel festival which connects influential luxury travel buyers with luxury hotels and suppliers.

"The four-day B2B event involves 'matchmaking' meetings set up using AI (artificial intelligence), helping to ensure the delegates meet, and connect with, the most appropriate contacts. It also involves networking opportunities with around 200 influential luxury travel buyers from Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and Asia and is a valuable opportunity to meet, and do business with, influential buyers who design unique, luxury travel itineraries for their high net-worth international clients.

"Louise Finnegan, Tourism Ireland's Head of Business Partnership, said, 'TFest in Dubai is an excellent platform to showcase our superb luxury tourism offering. The format of one-to-one, in-person appointments provides a valuable opportunity for Tourism Ireland and our partners to meet, and network with, some of the most influential luxury travel professionals and buyers from all over the world - ensuring Ireland is 'top of mind' for them when recommending destinations to their clients.'"

Tourism Minister Gordon Lyons Promotes Northern Ireland In London

Additionally, Tourism Ireland stated on its website, "Tourism Minister Gordon Lyons joined Tourism Ireland in London this week, to promote Northern Ireland .

"His schedule included a meeting with senior representatives of GB tour operators, as well as with global inbound tour operators based in London. As travel from overseas restarts, this was a useful opportunity for Minister Lyons to hear at first-hand from these important travel professionals. ADVERTISEMENT

"The Tourism Ireland team updated Minister Lyons on its dedicated Northern Ireland 'Embrace a Giant Spirit' campaign, which is under way in GB right now. The £5 million campaign is being seen by millions and will reach at least 80% of all adults. It aims to generate demand now and drive bookings for short breaks and holidays in Northern Ireland.

"Minister Lyons also opened Tourism Ireland's annual Flavours of Ireland workshop. Now in its 19th year, 'Flavours' - which took place virtually in 2020 - was an in-person event once again this year. It was held in the beautiful Guildhall, in the City of London, and was attended by around 100 top global inbound tour operators who deliver business from all over the world, including the US, Mainland Europe, Asia, Australasia and Africa. The tour operators met, and did business with, tourism companies from across the island of Ireland, including 20 from Northern Ireland.

"This year, Flavours is of particular importance, as overseas tourism restarts and the participating tour operators prepare to sign contracts for 2022 and 2023. It is, therefore, a key time for the Northern Ireland tourism companies to highlight and sell their product to these important decision-makers.

"Tourism Minister Gordon Lyons MLA said, 'Tourism and hospitality businesses have been amongst those hardest hit by the pandemic. I am pleased to be able to join Tourism Ireland here in London to help support them in promoting Northern Ireland to both international and GB visitors.

"'I welcomed the opportunity to meet up with the tour operators and share with them some of the many must see destinations and attractions Northern Ireland has to offer. Tour operators are vital to the recovery of our tourism industry; they have previously brought an estimated £150m into the local economy, meaning they are an important source of income for accommodation providers, hospitality businesses and tourist attractions.' ADVERTISEMENT

"Shane Clarke, Tourism Ireland's Director of Corporate Services, Policy & Northern Ireland, said, 'We are delighted that Minister Lyons joined Tourism Ireland in London for the first time this week. He had the opportunity to hear about the importance of the GB market at first-hand from our travel trade partners. He also attended our annual Flavours of Ireland event, where he met with leading global inbound tour operators. Before COVID-19, these tour operators were responsible for delivering millions of bed-nights to the island of Ireland. He assured them that we look forward to working closely with them in the months and years ahead - to rebuild tourism to Northern Ireland, for the long-term sustainable future of our industry.

"'We believe that the time is now right to get back out into the international marketplace, reminding prospective visitors that Northern Ireland continues to offer a wonderful holiday experience. Key priorities to ensure success will include rebuilding consumer confidence; as well as air and sea connectivity, which is vital as an island destination. It is undoubtedly a fiercely competitive marketplace; every destination has experienced the impact of COVID and is now seeking its share of the recovery. We are pulling out all the stops to set Northern Ireland and Ireland apart from our competitor destinations.'"

Customer Experiences Of Ireland Tours

Don’t just imagine your visit to Ireland - read what our amazing guests have to say!

So happy I found Nordic Visitor!

I'm so happy I found Nordic Visitor! Our 10-day self-drive tour of Ireland made our trip feel like a carefree vacation. The accommodation were outstanding, and finding ourselves within walking distance of city centres was wonderful. Our hotels/inns offered lovely breakfasts and some had excellent evening dining on-site. The Nordic Visitor travel guide was a pleasure to follow, filled with many choices to plan our daily excursions. Nordic Visitor is highly professional and thorough, from website to bookings. We appreciate all the planning Chris put into creating a fantastic itinerary for us!

This was excellent. We truly enjoyed our experience. We accomplished about 90% of the suggested sites. They were all top notch. Hotels and accommodation were all great. I would recommend to anyone going to visit Ireland and I will use them again when we go to Scotland.

I would recommend Nordic Visitor

Easy-to-book tour, communications were thorough and detailed, tour guide books were very well-researched and even included a hand-annotated map. Would recommend Nordic Visitor to others wishing to make a short tour to Ireland.

Extremely helpful

Nordic Visitor offers a package for every type of traveller. Travel consultants are extremely helpful and steer travellers to the perfect package to meet their interests.

Truly enjoyed our trip

Truly enjoyed our trip to Scotland and Ireland and the ease in travel. The itinerary booklets and maps were essential and used daily during our trip. We loved our trip and have shared your website with several friends already. We have 2 sets of friends looking at doing the same trip next year and one considering your Iceland package. Look forward to booking with you again!

We will use Nordic Visitor again

This was our third Nordic Visitor trip. We truly like the format of being able to travel on our own but with hotels and our car pre-booked and suggested itineraries. We will use Nordic Visitor again.

The best trip I've ever been on

This was a great tour, well laid out and hitting the highlights. Touring with a small group is always much smoother and more amicable and our group became fast friends. I can't say enough about our tour guide Brian. He brought a wealth of knowledge, not only about our destinations, but also local history, geography, language, customs as well as funny anecdotes. My daughter-in-law said "This was the best trip I've ever been on".

So grateful we went with Nordic Visitor

We had such an amazing experience with Nordic Visitor who hosted the "Wonders of Ireland" 8-day tour. The group was small, 16 people, so we could use a large van rather than the huge buses that take forever for people to load/unload at each stop. The hotels were top notch, the sites we visited were diverse and enjoyable (distilleries, castles, gardens, waterfalls). Our tour guide Brian was truly incredible. He had a wealth of knowledge about the history, music and folklore of Ireland. He made the trip both informative and fun, and helped the group come together with his warm and engaging personality. Melissa our driver was also fantastic - kind, helpful and chatty. They both went above and beyond to ensure everyone was cared for and enjoyed the journey. I was torn about which company to use, and am so grateful we went with Nordic Visitor.

Well-organised tour

The tour was very well-organised and structured to maximise the time on the road and the sites worth seeing along the way. The self-driving allowed me to spend time as I saw fit. Ireland is truly a beautiful country with friendly people.

I will use Nordic Visitor again!

We toured the highlights of Ireland via private vehicle and guide. All of our accommodation were very nice and what we requested. Our guide/driver was excellent! He went the extra mile for us in every way. The Nordic Visitor representative listened to what we wanted for our trip and delivered a great package. I was sent in depth details of the sites we could see at each stop and suggestions as to their top three choices. All the information provided was very helpful. I will use this company again!

Nordic Visitor's website and logistics were first-rate. Overall we had a wonderful time getting to see Scotland and Ireland, connecting with ancestry and generally enjoying all the arrangements made for us.

Great tour itinerary and accommodation. Nordic Visitor did all the hard work of booking places to stay and allowed us to just enjoy our trip.

Flights to Ireland

It’s easy to fly from Dubai to Dublin Airport (DUB) in Ireland, with direct flights or short layovers in major European cities. Approximate flight time is 7.5-12 hours from Dubai depending on the stops along the way.

Below are airlines that offer flights to Ireland from Dubai:

Emirates : Direct flights Air France : via Paris British Airways : via London KLM : via Amsterdam Lufthansa : via Frankfurt Swiss : via Zurich West Jet : via Istanbul British Airways : via London

We recommend checking with the airlines for flight availability and timetables. Flights are not included in Nordic Visitor packages, but all of our itineraries can be customised with extra nights in Dublin if you’d like to rest up after your long air journey.

Please note:  While small group tours can be customised with some optional activities, you can only add extra nights in Dublin before or after the guided portion of the tour.

The possibilities are endless when you visit Ireland. With 10 days or longer, you could explore the capital and countryside in more depth.

Follow the Wild Atlantic Way route to admire the sea cliffs, feel the Atlantic wind in your hair, and taste delicious seafood. Visit historic sights such as the Victorian Kylemore Abbey, take a boat tour to the Skellig Islands, or spend some time in Cork, Ireland’s second largest city.

If you prefer to spend more time in one city than another or want to add another town to your trip, it’s no problem. Just ask your Nordic Visitor travel consultant for advice.

Interested in visiting Northern Ireland?

As you may already know, the island of Ireland is separated in 2 entities. The Republic of Ireland, which is an independent nation, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom (along with England, Scotland and Wales).

While they are 2 different countries, they share many similarities in their history, culture and, of course, their geography. For a complete tour of the island, we recommend including Northern Ireland in your itinerary. This way you could get to know the Emerald Isle and see all its beauty in depth.

In Northern Ireland, you won’t want to miss the capital Belfast, the Antrim Coast, and the Giant’s Causeway.

When is the best time to visit Ireland from Dubai?

Ireland is a fun and beautiful holiday destination all year long. This means you can’t go wrong when you book your Irish getaway from Dubai. That said, we recommend the summertime or its shoulder months for the best experience.

The summer, consisting of the months of June, July and August, is the high season. It is marked by long daylight hours and the best (and most stable) weather of the year. Attractions also operate under longer hours and more availability than in winter.

All of this means you can discover Ireland to your heart’s content.

However, you may find that top attractions are very popular at this time. Indeed, Ireland attracts visitors from around the world especially in summer.

If you would rather have a quieter holiday, visit during the spring or autumn. These shoulder months include April, May, September and October. During this time, you’ll find the best of both worlds: quieter attractions but plenty of good weather and daylight to explore.

  • Not sure when to book your tour of Ireland? Browse our guide to the best time to visit Ireland

Are you interested in exploring Scotland too?

Combine a tour of Ireland with a trip around Scotland for an epic Celtic itinerary. We recommend a minimum of 10 days for this, so you can have enough time to dive into the cultures of both countries.

Spend the first 4 to 10 days journeying around the rugged Highlands and islands of Scotland. Then follow that up with another trip around Ireland to take in all the jaw-dropping coastal landscapes and historic landmarks.

Scotland is a great destination to complement a tour to Ireland. Their cultures and history are so closely linked and you’ll be able to meet the locals and get immersed in both.

What's more?  You can choose from a range of trips for your combo tour, including road trips, private itineraries and guided small group tours. It all depends on how you prefer to travel.
