A showcase suspended 190 feet (57 meters) above Paris, the Gustave Eiffel Lounge on the 1st floor of the Eiffel Tower is dedicated to organizing professional events. Its contours hug the curves of the Tower, and its transparent bubble gives visitors a panoramic view over Paris’ major landmarks. Nightfall makes it even more magical. Paris shimmers all around and the experience of being inside the tower’s pillars as they light up completes the feeling.

Today we’re talking about the one, the only, and the iconic guardian of Paris . Built in two years for the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889, it represents France around the world and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.

Between the Champ-de-Mars and the Seine, it occupies a prime position in the Parisian landscape. The district is home to many museums, including the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée du Quai Branly , as well as many official and political institutions and religious buildings .

Anecdotes and curiosities about the Iron Lady

1. who built the tower.

In June 1884, two Eiffel engineers, Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier, designed a project for a 300-meter metal tower in the hope of presenting it at the 1889 Exposition. Gustave Eiffel, initially uninterested, supported the project after a few modifications, and they filed a patent in September 1884. Although Gustave Eiffel did not design the tower , he played a key role in its realization, publicizing it and funding scientific experiments from the tower.

2. An essential antenna

The scientific potential of this metal tower attracted the attention of the authorities in 1910, prompting them to extend its operation for a further 70 years. Its strategic role during the First World War (it was the highest point in the Paris region ) is invaluable. She helped intercept decisive messages , counter a German attack and arrest Mata Hari. In 1921, Radio Tour Eiffel officially inaugurated radio programs broadcast from the tower, then became the setting for the beginnings of television in France. And finally, in 2005, a transmitter for digital terrestrial television (DTT) was installed.

3. A major monument

In 1889, the year of its official completion, only three structures in the world reached or exceeded 150 metres, which is only half its height: Rouen Cathedral (150 metres ), Cologne Cathedral (157 metres ), and the Washington Obelisk (169 metres ). At 300 metres , it far surpassed all other major world buildings of the time, and remained the world’s tallest monument for 40 years , until the Chrysler Building was built in 1930 at a height of 319 metres. For its time, this was a real technical feat, a symbol of French know-how.

The Gustave Eiffel Lounge

The Gustave Eiffel Lounge is the only venue of its kind in Paris. This 200-seat modular concert hall, function room, and theatre is located inside of the city’s most iconic monument: the Eiffel Tower. The Lounge was completely renovated in 2013 as part of a bid to revamp the tower's expansive first floor. Situated nearly 60 meters above ground level, the state-of-the-art venue is designed to incorporate the distinctive historical architecture of the Eiffel Tower, while giving it a stylish contemporary update. Sandwiched in-between the room glass and steelwork is, of course, the most famous panorama in Paris. What do I do when I get to the Eiffel Tower?

Please arrive at least 1 hour before the time indicated on your ticket. Late arrivals will not be admitted to the show. The last elevator leaves 15 minutes before the show. When you arrive near the Eiffel Tower, you will go through a security checkpoint. Then head to the Gustave Eiffel kiosk (near the north pillar of the Eiffel Tower) to collect your free elevator passes that will give you access to the first floor where the concert will take place. Once you arrive on the 1st floor, please report to the Gustave Eiffel Lounge entrance, where Eiffel Tower staff will guide you to your seats. Before or after the concert, you can explore the second floor by taking the stairs and showing the staff your concert ticket. Please note that, in the Eiffel Tower, anyone carrying a bag that exceeds the standard dimensions (32cm height, 50cm width, 21cm depth) will be refused entry. Both! The Eiffel Tower has been welcoming people from all over the world for more than 130 years ago. With a programme of composers originating from all across Europe, this concert can be enjoyed by speakers of any language.

Does the Eiffel Tower have a specific dress code?

No, there is no dress code for the Eiffel Tower concert series. However, guests are recommended to dress between formal and casual. We suggest avoiding the use of shorts, crocs, and caps.

If I'm late, will I still be allowed into the show?

What is included with the eiffel tower concert ticket.

A ticket to the Eiffel Tower Concert Series grants you access to a free elevator pass that goes to the first floor, access to the second floor by stairs, and the concert itself. There is no need to purchase an additional ticket to climb the Eiffel Tower.

Are there any special requirements for access to this show during the Olympic and Paralympic Games?

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024. The Paralympic Games will run from 28 August to 08 September 2024.

Enjoy a tour with Gustave Eiffel! To mark the centenary of the death of this famous engineer and entrepreneur who built the Eiffel Tower, we are paying tribute to him by offering visitors the chance to enrich their visit through fun journeys back in time in his company. And all you need is your phone!

On each floor of the Tower, Gustave Eiffel is waiting for you, to share his secrets and stories about the Tower through immersive, 360° experiences that will be launched on your phone after you scan the QR code. There’s plenty of surprises in store for you!

On the esplanade

Discover the Tower in three different time periods - and colors. At the exact center of the esplanade, scan the QR code engraved on the round metal plaque using your phone, then click on the link. After that, simply let yourself be guided. Point your phone at a pillar to enjoy the “augmented reality” experience. Gustave Eiffel himself will welcome you and introduce you to three different periods during the Tower’s history and its different colors!   

On the first floor

Two immersive experiences await you on the first floor..

Travel back in time to 1887. Find the sticker on the glass balustrade opposite the terrace and place your feet on the spot indicated on the ground. Head off on an exciting journey back in time to 1887 with Gustave Eiffel, when the first floor of the Tower had just been completed. You will learn more about the construction, finished in record time, and will see the Tower rising before your very eyes.  

Go into Gustave Eiffel’s office Head to the exterior passageway on the Champ de Mars side and you will see two panels attached to the grills, on either side of the passageway, offering an exclusive visit to Gustave Eiffel’s office. Witness a moving historic scene, when Gustave Eiffel and his daughter Claire met famous inventor Thomas Edison, who gave him an extraordinary gift for the occasion.  

On the second floor

Relive a historic feat On the lower level of the second floor, on the Champ de Mars side near a telescope, you will find two panels attached to the grills. This is your chance to relive a historic feat, accompanied once again by Gustave Eiffel. Adrenaline rush guaranteed!

After each experience, an interactive map will show you the location of other immersive experiences.
