Absolutely fantastic experience. I highly recommend splurging on the baby room and a close encounter. We love cuddling with the baby kangaroo, ferret and lamb. My son absolutely loves sloths and we got to spend quite some time with it and it gave my son kisses. The regular exhibits were cool as well and the staff very friendly. It's expensive but so worth it.

I highly suggest NOT coming here. My family and I came for a birthday and had a very poor experience. A lot of sad enclosures with bored animals who see a human as an infinite source of carrots. The grounds are full of feces from multiple species. When I saw a Hyena in a shed with no stimulation or water, I was very upset. The company has not been professional with any communication I have had with them. Here's what happened: This was our first time at the zoo. We made that clear when purchasing our tickets at the front. We paid for the Zoo Bundle ($50 each) which is advertised as the best value. I am a public servant and my Wife is a teacher, and no one offered us the 10% discount advertised on the website. We were quickly charged $100 for 2 adults by someone who was uninterested in helping us. We were handed 2 cups of carrots, and left alone without any direction. The woman who was so efficient at taking our money was not interested in welcoming us or providing any direction for the grounds or experiences offered. The bundle we purchased offered us an animal encounter. We chose the lemurs. That was the first thing we did upon admittance. Our encounter lasted for no longer than 2 minutes before a staff member came to the enclosure to tell our guide to either "do a different encounter that just walked in or watch the front". Our guide told the other staff member he would rather "watch the front" and our encounter ended. On the website, they advertise a 15 minute encounter. We did not receive that. It was rushed, uninformative, and we did not understand what we were being charged for. We simply walked in, feed each lemur 2 carrots, and walked right out. Afterwards, we were left to our own devices. No one came to show us where the baby room was, which is an additional part of the bundle we paid for. We never got the opportunity to experience that. We tried our best to enjoy the zoo, but we simply found ourselves walking to each enclosure to meet an over habituated animal begging for a carrot from our apparently $70 feed cups (an airline coffee cup of carrots). When it was clear that we were ripped off, we began to leave. On our way out of the door to the parking lot, we ran into a staff member in the middle of a phone conversation saying it was time for him to "feed a family to the hyena". This solidified to us that the advertised "Infinite passion for animal welfare" was a ruse to sell $50 tickets. The website advertises "an unforgettable journey through our zoo, where you'll get to interact with our rare and exotic animals in a way you've never experienced before.". This is simply not true, and we did not see what we were charged $100 for. I called staff after leaving to speak to someone about our experience. I spoke to a gentleman who wrote down my name and phone number, and told me that management would reach out to me via text in 20 minutes. I never heard back. I reached out through email later. No response. When I have tried calling back for an update during their open hours, I am left with the "we're closed" message. This East Texas backyard with African wildlife is here to rip you off.
I was there on June 25. I met and talked with the new owners and my guide/friend Regina. I played with 5 cute monkeys, a kudu calf, visited the giraffe Gio and held a sweet baby goat. Also in the baby room, I gave a baby deer its bottle. I have to say, it was one of the best times ever!! I love the place. I will go back next time I'm in Texas!
All I can say is wow! My family loved our visit to the farm. The gator farm is very well laid out and thought out, The staff is knowledgeable and super friendly and will answer any questions regarding the animals that live there! This last time we love seeing the monkeys who did dances and copied my little ones movements! We were able to pet and feed several animals. We learned some new fun facts that I never learned going to your basic zoo! I would really encourage anyone that's in the area to stop by! Thank you to all the staff that talked with us and made our trip so special we will be back!
FALSE ADVERTISING. We drove an hour and a half to come to this place on our last day in Texas because we wanted to pet and hold the baby animals and do the exotic animal experience. I EVEN CALLED BEFOREHAND to see if they were open, and they said yes. I checked the website, and it said THE ONLY day they are closed are Tuesdays. We came on a Friday. I am SO frustrated because now that we are here, they said the ONLY thing they said we can do is "walk around". I could walk around in my sister's backyard. I don't need to drive an hour and a half to "walk around". SO DISAPPOINTED. Never again. You lost over $300 in business from us today, and for years to come. Shame on you.
First off, in response to the most recent negative reviews, this zoo is now under new ownership/management as of June 2022 when I went. Every single employee that we came into contact with was friendly, helpful and very informative. The whole zoo was clean, but it is the type of zoo that does have some animals roaming around such as tortoises, ducks, etc. so there's some areas where you should watch your step, but I only saw a few instances of poo on the ground. Most animals were in cages, but the size of the cages were more than large enough for the sizes of the animals with plenty of shade for them to rest in when it's hot. (I don't like seeing animals caged up, but I wanted to post that comment in response to the review that said the cages were overpacked, never cleaned and the animals were covered in their own waste.) All of the animals I saw were clean, as were their cages. There was also a comment about how sickly and malnourished and abused the animals were. All of the animals had food and clean water in their cages, and guests could buy additional food to feed the animals. I was amazed at how much food they were giving the gators. Some of them just sat still and let the food sink to the bottom of the pond. It seemed like some of the gators weren't hungry at all. We were also able to go into the baby room/house for an additional $10 per person. The employee who went along with us was so sweet to the teen girls we had with us, and extremely informative about the animals. She had an albino baby wallaby in a pouch/bag that she kept around her body at all times except for when she let us hold him. I asked if she cared for him 24/7, and she said that they take turns during the day caring for him and the owner picks him up in the evening and cares for him through the night. For such a small zoo, in the middle of nowhere, they had some amazing animals that you would usually only see in very large zoos. The animals were extremely well cared for and fed and the zoo itself was kept clean and very inviting. After reading the most recent reviews I was not looking forward to going, but I had told a friend I would go with her. I figured I would give them a chance and I'm so glad I did. I will definitely be going back to the East Texas Gator and Wildlife Park.
Kangaroos lounging in the shade
The animals here are abused. The enclosures are way to small and overpacked, on top of that they're never cleaned. These animals are covered in their own waste. Every single animal here looks sickly. It's a tasteless cash grab. This place needs to be shut down. You can tell the employees don't care about anything here. The worst animal abuse in the entire zoo is going on in the lobby when you first walk in. Alligators in crammed in 30 gallon tanks when they should be in ponds, a fish tank so dirty you can't see the fish, 10 turtles crammed in a small cage. This place is a hell hole for all the animals here. I hope this place gets shut down and that the owners are punished.
What would've been an otherwise amazing experience this morning was made pretty awkward from the start. I was excited to check this place out for the first time, but when my folks and I arrived around 10:00 am this morning we received no welcome. We walked around the gift shop/main entry room for a few minutes before moving to the counter. The young lady working said nothing and hardly looked at us. It was super uncomfortable. Without telling us "hello" or the price of admission or anything at all, she glanced at us and said a dollar amount. My dad swiped his card and thanked her. We then waited for some instructions and asked if we should wait or ... what next? She just pointed and said, "yeah, through that door". We had no other interactions with any staff at the park. I wished we could've left with a better impression or feeling that we were welcome, but we weren't acknowledged on the way out either. Unfriendly, un-Texan, and uncool! What a weird disappointment for such an otherwise awesome place! I'm sorry this was part of the experience that we will remember. If we ever go again, I hope to share another review about the awesome place and cool animals -- such great care and attention is given there! Wonder why the welcome is so unwelcoming? Seems like a place many would be proud to be a part of.
This small zoo allows you to get up close and personal with lots of cool animals and reptiles. The baby animal room was the best part and well worth the extra $5. Definitely a hit with the kiddo! We took our 6yo daughter on a Sunday afternoon and she loved it. We saw alligators, capybaras, all sorts of weird fowl, goats, monkeys, a pig, an emu, some zebras (they were far off in an area that wasn't accessible), bears, baboons, roosters, a donkey, a miniature pony, peacocks, and tortoises. Probably the coolest thing outside the baby animal room was the alligator feeding. One of the handlers came out with a bucket of raw chicken and some gator knowledge, and we stood just feet away as these massive gators hissed and jumped and came up out of the water to eat. It was so awesome! In addition to the animals, there was also a small playground with ropes to swing on and climb. On our way out we stopped in the baby animal area and got to hold ferrets, a bearded dragon, two snakes, a baby coati, and a baby alligator. There was also a sweet baby muntjac deer you could pet (but not hold). We took a lot of really fun pictures. It was a great way to end the visit. The only drawback is that the grounds don't seem well-maintained and need mowing and other work. The barns were really dirty and covered in cobwebs. There were giant tortoise turds on the walkway. One of the feeding tubes for the bears was broken. You can tell the place is in need of some repairs. I'm sure it's because all their profits go to the animals and not the facilities. It didn't prevent us from having a great time and we would definitely visit again!
I have some concerns I would like to Post about this Zoo. Some of the living conditions for these animals are poor and plain filthy. Most of the cages have cobwebs and feathers in them, and looked as if they haven't been cleaned in a very long time- especially the otter habitat as seen below...The shallow pool they have is not covered and so I imagine the water must get hot rather quickly throughout the day (its also very green and dirty as if it hadn't been changed in a while). The living space they have is also dirty as if it could AT LEAST use a spray down (some toys here and there could also be very beneficial to keep them entertained). I would encourage for people to stop attending this zoo- obviously the money generated at this zoo is simply not enough to upkeep it- or the money is going elsewhere rather than the animals. Its sad because the laws only require the zoo to have minimal requirements for their habitats. Please spread the word...

Kids in a cage: 154 years of the Moscow Zoo
Categories: Animals | History
On February 12, 1864, the Imperial Russian Society for the Acclimatization of Animals and Plants founded a zoo in Moscow. The initiator of the foundation of the zoo, Russian zoologist Anatoly Bogdanov called it "a living museum in the open air." The Moscow Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in Europe.
The area where the old part of the zoo is now located was called Presnensky Ponds — the Presnya River flowed here, Muscovites liked to walk in the meadows and gardens adjacent to it. It is believed that this particular site was chosen for the zoo because it was located at an accessible distance for all Muscovites.
At the time of opening, guests of the zoo could see 134 specimens of domestic animals, 153 specimens of wild animals and birds and seven specimens of reptiles. The animals were mostly of those found in Russia, but there were also exotic animals — a pair of lions, two tigers, a jaguar, a leopard, a rhinoceros and an alligator.

Many animals were given to the zoo by various important personalities. The Indian elephant, for example, was presented by Tsar Alexander II, and the zebra was presented by the Egyptian ruler Ismail Pasha.

After the revolution, the zoo was nationalized, and in 1927 it became known as a zoo.
An elephant presented by Emperor Alexander II, 1870. Photo: archive of the Moscow Zoo.
The zoo also worked during the Great Patriotic War, from 1941 to 1945 it was visited by more than six million people. Many zoo staff took care of the animals, even when bombs fell on the park: they plugged the broken windows with blankets, comforted the frightened animals. The zoo's website says that some spouses of Zakusillo stayed with the animals, even when they saw that their house caught fire from the impact of an incendiary bomb.

In the 70s and 80s, due to funding problems, the zoo began to deteriorate. The zoo's website says that "frogs fell from the terrarium on the second floor onto the heads of Amur tigers living on the first floor."
The Bear House, 1912. Photo: archive of the Moscow Zoo.
In the 90s, the situation changed, the reconstruction of the zoo began, many new animals were brought there. The reconstruction has not been completed yet: it is planned to build an aquarium, a terrarium, an educational center, a theater of animals and a dolphinarium.
The flooded garden, 1913. Photo: archive of the Moscow Zoo.
Today, the zoo hosts many different excursions — among them, for example, an excursion about animals that no one likes (a raven, a cockroach, a ferret), and night excursions. There is a circle of a young biologist and a circle of "Manulyata" for smaller children. By choosing an animal and signing a contract for charitable assistance, you can become a guardian.
