7 ways to get free or discounted TSA PreCheck, Global Entry and Clear

Caroline Tanner

As we head into the holiday season, there's no better time to arm yourself with tools to pass through the airport as quickly as possible — specifically the TSA security line at U.S. airports and the customs line when coming back from abroad.

I've written extensively about TSA PreCheck and Clear , both of which help travelers speed through TSA security.

PreCheck users pass through security using a dedicated line for PreCheck users only, in which they do not have to remove their shoes, laptop, liquids, belt or light jacket like passengers in the regular TSA line.

Like TSA PreCheck, Clear users also begin the security process in a Clear-only lane, where they are biometrically identified via fingerprint or iris scans, sparing them from having to show their ID anytime during security screening. Users are then taken to the front of the line for the security screening machines (either the front of the PreCheck screening line for those with Clear and PreCheck, or the front of the normal TSA screening line).

The third program, Global Entry , is useful for frequent international travelers, as it gives preapproved, low-risk travelers expedited clearance upon arrival to the U.S. from abroad. Global Entry users can enter the country through automated kiosks at 75-plus airports .

Enrollment in the three programs costs money, including an annual fee for Clear. Memberships to TSA PreCheck and Global Entry last five years each.

While these programs may be worth their retail price tags in their own right, there's no need to pay full price if you don't have to.

At TPG, we aim to help you save money when traveling. We do this by sharing which credit cards you should have in your wallet , explaining how to leverage airline and hotel elite status levels, and showing you the perks of those frequent flyer memberships — including how to enjoy these programs at a discounted rate or even for free.

So before enrolling in TSA PreCheck, Global Entry or Clear, keep reading this guide for seven ways to save money on their associated fees.

How much do TSA PreCheck, Global Entry and Clear cost?

Normally, a five-year membership to TSA PreCheck costs $78 to $85, while five years of Global Entry runs you $100.

Two providers manage TSA applications. You'll pay $78 to apply through IDEMIA and $85 through Telos . Renewing costs $70 if you do it online through either provider.

If you have a Global Entry membership, you also receive the benefits of TSA PreCheck. Essentially, you reap the benefits of both programs for an extra $22 every five years.

An annual membership to Clear is $189. Together, using all these programs can add up if you don't take advantage of available discounts and credits.

If you're not yet familiar with the details of these different programs, check out our guides to TSA PreCheck , Global Entry and Clear to find the right one(s) for your travel needs.

'Free' TSA PreCheck and Global Entry via credit cards

Currently, there are 39 cobranded airline, hotel and other credit cards offering up to $100 in statement credit reimbursement for the application fees associated with Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. This credit is typically available every four to five years, though you should check the terms for your specific card for the exact frequency.

Some of the cards conveying free TSA PreCheck and/or Global Entry are:

  • Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express
  • United Explorer Card
  • Citi®/AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (see rates and fees )
  • Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
  • Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
  • Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
  • Southwest Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card
  • United Club Infinite Card

See here for a complete list of credit cards that offer a discount for TSA PreCheck.

Your miles can pay for TSA PreCheck and Global Entry

In addition to the aforementioned cards offering credits for TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, some loyalty programs allow members to use points or miles in exchange for covering the membership fees. While these are options, the return per point is less than TPG point valuations , so they're not our top picks for ways to save on these memberships.

Those programs include:

  • Radisson Rewards Americas : Members can redeem 65,000 points for an $85 application credit to TSA PreCheck only
  • Orbitz Rewards: Platinum members get a free TSA PreCheck membership every five years
  • Marriott Bonvoy : Members can redeem 25,000 points for an $85 application credit
  • IHG One Rewards : Members can redeem 30,000 points for an $85 application credit
  • United MileagePlus : Members can redeem 10,000 miles for a TSA PreCheck membership

'Free' Clear memberships via credit cards

Since Clear costs $189 per year instead of $85 to $100 every five years, there aren't nearly as many credit cards that provide a free Clear Plus membership as there are with the others. However, there are a few options if you want your travel credit card to pay for your Clear Plus membership.

They include:

  • The Platinum Card from American Express
  • The Business Platinum Card from American Express
  • The Centurion Card from American Express
  • American Express® Green Card
  • Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card

Occasionally, there are targeted Amex Offers covering the cost of Clear Plus membership for those with different American Express cards, so keep your eyes peeled for limited-time offers like that.

The information for the Centurion, Green and Hilton Aspire cards has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Credit cards that save you money on Clear

If you don't have a credit card that makes Clear completely free with statement credits, some additional credit cards can at least reduce your annual Clear membership cost:

  • All Delta SkyMiles cobranded Amex cards : $149 annual membership ($40 off the standard rate)
  • All United U.S. credit cards : $149 annual membership ($40 off the standard rate)

Save on Clear with a frequent flyer membership

United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines offer their frequent flyers free or discounted memberships to Clear.

Discounts from Delta SkyMiles

Top-tier Delta Diamond Medallion members can get Clear for free. The airline's Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion members can pay a reduced price of $149. The same price applies to those without a Delta credit card .

All Delta SkyMiles members without elite status can get a discounted membership for $179 — a $10 discount.

Similarly, United's Premier 1K members are entitled to free memberships in Clear, while United MileagePlus Platinum, Gold and Silver members can pay $149. Those with a United credit card receive this same discount.

United MileagePlus members without status can access Clear for $179 per year.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members can enroll in Clear at a slightly discounted rate of $179 annually.

Mileage Plan members who sign up for Clear will also receive bonus miles: MVP, MVP Gold, MVP Gold 75K and MVP Gold 100K members will receive 1,500 miles, plus an additional 1,250 miles each year they renew.

Clear discounts for families and students

For families, children under 18 can pass through Clear with you for free without needing to scan their eyes or fingerprints.

College students can use a discounted student Clear rate of $60 per year for up to four years.

Clear also has a family plan , and you can add up to three adults to your primary membership for $99 per additional person per year without incurring another full $189 fee for each person every year.

Try Clear for free with a referral code

TPG readers can try Clear for free for two months before deciding if it's worth keeping. Fair warning: In my experience, once you go Clear, you never go back.

Bottom line

Not only do TSA PreCheck, Global Entry and Clear help travelers save time, it's possible to get memberships without breaking the bank. Before you sign up for one or more, see if you can get it for no cost or at a reduced cost through one of these methods.

What are the differences between Global Work and Travel vs Smaller Earth?

Global Work and Travel and Smaller Earth are two organisations that offer similar services, but there are several differences between the two. Global Work and Travel  is a global organisation that specialises in providing work and travel experiences for young people. They offer various programs including working holiday visas, gap year experiences, and internships. They also provide support services such as pre-departure information, accommodation, and travel insurance. Global Work and Travel focuses on providing a unique and immersive experience for their customers, and they have a large network of partnerships with organisations around the world. Smaller Earth , on the other hand, is a smaller organisation that focuses on cultural exchange programs. They offer a variety of programs such as au pair programs, language schools, and volunteer programs. Smaller Earth is known for its personalised approach, and they offer one-on-one support to their customers before, during, and after their experience. They also have a strong commitment to sustainability and community development, and they work with local organisations to ensure their programs have a positive impact on the communities they serve. Another difference between the two organisations is the type of programs they offer. Global Work and Travel has a wider range of programs that cater to a variety of interests and needs, while Smaller Earth is more focused on cultural exchange and language programs. Global Work and Travel also provides more structured programs, while Smaller Earth allows for more flexibility and customisation of their programs. In terms of cost, Global Work and Travel tends to be more expensive compared to Smaller Earth. This is because Global Work and Travel provides more support services, and their programs are designed to offer a more immersive experience. Smaller Earth, on the other hand, is more affordable, and their programs are designed to be more budget-friendly for young people. In conclusion, both Global Work and Travel and Smaller Earth are organisations that offer unique opportunities for young people to travel, work, and experience different cultures. However, they differ in terms of their focus, program offerings, support services, and cost. It is important to consider your personal goals, interests, and budget when choosing between the two operators.

Why use Global Work & Travel

Global Work & Travel does it all with a global support network, done-for-you planning, and a streamlined job-finding process. Each trip is packed with inclusions that add immense value.

The biggest advantage is the money saved in having everything done right the first time, and being able to walk into a job, volunteer opportunity, or tour that is waiting for you.

Global Work & Travel is the place to find travel jobs, and they have the numbers to back it up:

  • 24/7 worldwide support
  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • 100 passionate experts to guide you and plan your travel
  • 1,200+ worldwide partners offering exclusive travel, work, and volunteer opportunities
  • 10,000+ four and five-star reviews

If the numbers aren’t convincing enough, the flexibility and affordability built into the program is a traveler’s dream. Global Work & Travel allows you to use payment plans where you choose your installments to pay off your trip over time.

Their Lifetime Deposit Guarantee gives you peace of mind if plans change. This allows you to swap your trip, gift it to a friend, or save it for later without any fees.

You could also win a $1,000 credit toward any trip if you go subscribe to their mailing list.

Animal Welfare: Another reason to love Global Work & Travel

Global Work & Travel is a company with a heart, as well. Animal welfare is at the core of everything they do.

The Global Animal Welfare Fund (GAWF) was created to provide much needed funds to animal projects in Australia, with the goal of broadening work overseas. A feather in the GAWF’s cap is that it is completely funded by Global Work & Travel.

Global Work & Travel also founded Rescue PAWS , a rescue group in Thailand that supports rehoming the street dogs of Hua Hin.

GAWF is also oriented on providing further assistance to underfunded organizations.

Final Thoughts

There are many options you can choose from when looking for the top travel jobs, the most unique volunteer opportunities, or the best laid plans. While you can try to cut costs by doing it yourself, you’ll probably get overwhelmed and may end up spending even more money while trying to figure it all out.

Global Work & Travel is more than a travel company. It is a global community of good-hearted experts who want to help you succeed.

4 thoughts on “The Easiest Way to Get Travel Jobs and Work Abroad”

Good options here Nora. My wife kicked off our 11 year round the globe trip by teaching English in Bali. The company did not sell the opportunity accurately; she left within a week and began building her online business. However, for clear, transparent companies – of which there are many – this gig works well for travelers.

You bring up such a great point, Ryan – not all companies are created equal! It’s important to ask a lot of questions. I like that Global Work & Travel vets schools and helps you prepare, but even that isn’t infallible I’m sure.

There are a number of ways that you can get travel jobs and work abroad. One way is to search the internet for job postings. Another option is to contact your local embassies or consulates and ask if they have any openings in their departments. You could also meet with professionals who work as agents or consultants for international companies, and see if they know of any opportunities in foreign countries.

This are great options to consider and if you know english the doors can be open so easily around the globe. Thanks for sharing.

The Best Way To Work and Travel Abroad: Global Work & Travel

Updated: Feb 6, 2022

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission from the discount codes used or when a link/ad is clicked. All purchases made will come at no extra cost to you, and I only include products and services that I have personally used and would recommend.

Have you ever been on a trip where you not only get to explore a new country, but also get to earn money while you do so? It may sound a bit too good to be true, but thousands of travellers ranging from all ages are currently doing just that.

Global Work & Travel is an Australian company formed in 2008 with the aim of creating trips for people who want to be more than just a tourist while they’re travelling. Today, Global Work & Travel offer over 60 unique travel experiences in over 30 different countries, meaning you’re pretty much guaranteed to find that one trip that really resonates with you and the type of experience you want.

There’s no longer any need to wonder how you can work and travel at the same time, because whether you want to work as an Au Pair, teach abroad, or even work as an intern, Global Work & Travel are more than equipped to help you reach your goals.

Two people sitting on a couch talking on a balcony with a sea view.

Who are Global Work & Travel?

Global Work & Travel is one of the world’s leading work and travel brands. Their head office is in Australia, but they also have offices in the UK and Canada. They only work with organizations that align with their strong wildlife, environmental and humanitarian values.

How does Global Work & Travel work?

Choosing a trip through Global Work & Travel couldn’t be easier. You have full control over the trip making process so it’s fully catered to your needs. You start off by choosing what type of trip you want to have, whether that be volunteering, working, or even tutoring. After that, you choose where you want to travel to based on the options available. Fancy working and travelling in Europe? There are plenty of options to choose from. You’ll remain in contact with Global Work & Travel’s team throughout the planning process and the trip itself in case you need an assistance.

How much is Global Work & Travel?

That depends on which option you choose. For example, prices for volunteering as a Game Ranger in South Africa start at £3635, but if you were to work as a tutor in Italy prices start at only £845. There’s a full range of travel and work options available on the Global Work & Travel website (which are always being updated).

A whitewashed street with blue plant pots on the walls.

Is Global Work & Travel legit?

This is a very common question I came across on search engines, but yes, Global Work & Travel is legit and has helped over 60 000 people plan their dream working holiday. They’re members of many prominent accreditation groups and associations too, such as ACTA and ABTA.

What is the age limit to book with Global Work & Travel?

Many work and travel companies only offer trips to young adults, which is a shame because the lust for travel doesn’t end when you enter your thirties. Global Work & Travel offer trips to teach, volunteer, and work remotely for anyone over the age of 18, and there are some great options available if you’re looking for work abroad programs for adults.

Where can I go with Global Work & Travel?

Global Work & Travel operate in over 30 countries, and they’re looking to add more to their list in the future. Thailand, Canada, Spain, and Tanzania are just some of the many options you have at your disposal. The choice is up to you!

Is there a discount code for Global Work & Travel?

Yes there is! EXPLORER100 will get $100/£100/€100 (whatever your currency is) off of your trip with Global Work & Travel . This code works on top of any promotions that are happening on Global Work & Travel’s website as well. SAVINGS!

If you’re thinking of heading to Spain anytime soon (which I would highly recommend doing), Global Work & Travel is the perfect program to get on board with so you can explore unique places such as Málaga , Granada , and Seville while earning an income to help you travel even further. It also doesn’t hurt to have some extra money in your pocket for all of the delicious food on offer in Spain either!

Are you planning on going on a global working holiday or a volunteer vacation? I’m happy to answer any questions you have about Global Work & Travel and point you in the direction of one of their helpful support staff. Let me know your thoughts on working and travelling in the comments below. And as always, don’t forget to stay connected with me through Instagram !

Ted Baker is the latest in a string of high-street giants to call in administrators in recent years.

But how does it affect you?

Let's use Ted Baker as an example.

Purchases and returns

You can still purchase online or walk into a Ted Baker shop and buy items, but you could run into trouble returning them.

If the retailer stops trading, it may not be able to get your money back to you.

If that is the case, you would have to file a claim with Teneo (Ted Baker's administrator) to join a list of creditors owed money by Ted Baker – and even then there's no guarantee you'd get your money back.

You could also file a claim with your debit or credit card provider - but again, no guarantees.

TDLR: If you have one - use it as soon as possible.

Teneo have made no changes to the way gift cards can be used at Ted Baker, but as is the case with all administrators, they can change the terms and conditions at will.

As above, if you lose out on cash because of a company going into administration, you can raise it with the administrators themselves.

Credits and debits

As we mentioned earlier, you can file a claim with your debit or credit card provider to recover lost funds - but how exactly does that work?

  • Credit card:  If you bought any single item costing between £100-£30,000 and paid on a credit card, the card firm is liable if something goes wrong. If any purchase was less than £100, you may still be able to get your money back via chargeback
  • Debit card:  Under chargeback, your bank can try to get your money back from Ted Baker's bank. However, be aware that this is not a legal requirement and it can later be disputed and recalled back to Ted Baker's bank

A US state is considering a bill giving employees the right not to respond to calls, emails and texts from their bosses outside of paid work hours.

The so-called "right to disconnect" would allow California's labour commission to fine employers for interrupting personal time, reports our partner network NBC News.

The bill makes exceptions for emergencies, scheduling and collective bargaining.

The state's Chamber of Commerce called the proposed legislation a step backwards for flexibility.

However, Professor Amira Barger told NBC the changes would help tackle an "epidemic of burnout" and were a "necessary adaptation" for the future of work.

The planned £15bn mega-merger of UK mobile networks Vodafone and Three is to face an in-depth investigation by the competition watchdog.

The Competition and Markets Authority confirmed it will launch a so-called Phase 2 probe after both firms told the regulator they would not be offering measures to ease its concerns ahead of the deadline, 2 April.

The CMA said last month that the tie-up could have a "substantial" impact on competition, warning it may lead to higher prices and reduced quality.

School strikes over teachers' pay and funding could be staged in September, the leader of a teaching union has warned.

Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the National Education Union (NEU), the largest education union in the UK, did not rule out launching a ballot on walkouts for the autumn term.

Teachers at the NEU’s annual conference in Bournemouth will vote today on whether the union should "build capacity" to deliver national industrial action.

Ofgem is considering plans for rules on the use of artificial intelligence in the energy industry amid fears the technology could risk "tacit collusion", reports  The Times.

Algorithms that make pricing decisions for companies would make it more difficult to identify who is accountable when it comes to competition issues, the regulator said.

Customers also need to be protected from higher-risk AI used to help balance supply and demand that could cause power outages if they fail.

The FTSE 100 is up more than 0.4% this morning, after a rise in the price of gold boosted precious metal mining firms.

Also up is British fintech Cab Payments. Its shares have shot up 11% in early trading.

It comes after the firm secured a payment provider licence in the Netherlands, paving the way for it to expand in the country.

Meanwhile, the cost of oil continues to slowly creep up in the wake of investor concerns over the Middle East and Ukraine's attacks on Russian refineries.

A barrel of Brent crude is currently trading at just over $89 (£70).

The currency markets remain stable, with £1 buying you $1.26 US or €1.17, with the rates almost unchanged from yesterday.

Google is considering charging for premium AI-powered features, the Financial Times reports.

It would be the first time the tech giant put any core products behind a paywall, as it seeks to gain ground in the fast-moving AI space

The FT cited sources familiar with Google's plans as saying it could incorporate a generative AI-powered search engine in its subscription services, which already provide access to its new Gemini AI assistant in Gmail and Docs.

Google's traditional search engine would remain free of charge and ads would continue to appear alongside search results even for subscribers.

"We're not working on or considering an ad-free search experience. As we've done many times before, we'll continue to build new premium capabilities and services to enhance our subscription offerings across Google," the company told Reuters.

Google, which invented the foundational technology for today's AI boom, is locked in battle with two industry players that have captured the business world's attention - ChatGPT's creator OpenAI and its backer Microsoft.

Every Thursday we look at a different savings option, explain the pros and cons, and reveal the best deals on the market (see table below for that).  This week we're talking about the top interest-paying current accounts. Savings Champion founder Anna Bowes  writes...

From time to time there are plenty of incentives available to attempt to encourage people to switch their current accounts - but switching is not always necessary. There are also some current accounts that offer competitive interest rates, even if there's not a switching incentive.

While not as prevalent as they have been in the recent past, interest-paying current accounts can offer some very competitive interest rates – especially bearing in mind that most current accounts offer no interest at all. In fact, according to the Bank of England, there is £253bn currently held in these non-interest bearing accounts.

These accounts are usually more complicated than a traditional savings account and there are a number of hoops to jump through and potential hazards to avoid, in order to get the returns on offer.

Potential traps to look out for are: low maximum balances, introductory rates, monthly fees, a requirement to set up direct debits, a minimum amount to pay in each month and a minimum amount to maintain in the account.

All of these factors need to be taken into account when choosing an account and if you feel that you may fall foul of the rules, take a look at one of the alternatives that will suit your circumstances better.

Setting up standing orders is an easy way to ensure you deposit and withdraw the qualifying amounts each month and can be effective in managing multiple current accounts. It may take a while to set it all up, but the rates on offer could make it worthwhile. It is also worth remembering that many of these accounts can be opened without having to switch your main current account.

A final point to bear in mind is that some of these accounts give you access to exclusive savings accounts, which often pay competitive rates - especially true with regular savings accounts.

Many of us have noticed the price of pints creeping up in recent years.

The cost of draught lager has gone up nearly 30% since January 2019, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The ONS says the cost of the average pint in Britain is £4.70 (it was £3.67 in January 2019), but many pubs frequently sell beers for over £5, £6 or even £7 in cities like London, Edinburgh and Brighton.

The beer doesn't taste any different despite the increase in price - so where exactly does that £6-7 for a pint go?

Sky News spoke with management at The Duke of Greenwich pub in Greenwich, London, for some insight.

A pint of The Duke of Greenwich's eponymous lager costs £6 - but just 83p (about 13.8% of the cost to the consumer) is profit for the pub.

They pay the brewery £1.36 per pint and allow for 5% wastage - which people in the industry say is perhaps a little on the low side, given the number of top-ups and over-lively pints poured.

Nearly 30%, or £1.76, of your £6 goes towards paying staff - with hospitality wages needing to rise given inflation, the national minimum wage and in order for pubs, restaurants and cafes to compete in the worsening inter-industry dogfight for employees.

£1.16 may seem steep for rent and utilities per pint - but remember they aren't just paying for the building and the lights. They also need to wash your glass with very hot water using a dishwasher or glass cleaner, provide heating for punters, water for the bathrooms and electricity across the wider pub for bandits (aka trusty fruit machines), music and for that bloke at the bar to charge his phone.

No one will need reminding that there's a cost of living crisis that affects pubs as much as everyone else.

There's also beer gas that needs to be paid for.

This goes some way towards explaining why pubs charge so much - they simply have to survive.

More expensive means more profit, right?

As you go further up the scale, the trend continues.

Despite a pint of Crush IPA by the Drop Project Brewery in Mitcham costing £1.80 more than the lager (£7.80), there's actually a decrease in the profit margin - from around 13.8% to around 12.7%.

Less than £1 of that £7.80 is profit for the pub itself - and this is before we've accounted for extra expenses like refurbishments, cleaners, breakages, expired products, etc.

While being aware of these facts may not make you wince any less when that card machine turns around, you will have a better idea of where that money is going.

British Savings Bonds, which were announced in the budget, have gone on sale.

The bonds, issued by the Treasury-backed NS&I, offer a fixed rate for three years - and the rate has been revealed at 4.15%.

This has left experts feeling a little underwhelmed.

Savings Champion founder Anna Bowes gave us her view: "In essence, this is simply a re-issuance of the NS&I three-year Guaranteed Income and Guaranteed Growth bonds, rather than anything new or British.

"As was reported just after the budget and as is often the case with NS&I products, while the interest rate is not rock bottom it’s mid-table, so is likely to still be utilised, especially for those rolling over old bonds, and those with more than the FSCS limit of £85,000, because of course all cash held with NS&I is guaranteed by HM Treasury.

"NS&I is a trusted institution so will always be popular, but savers can earn quite a lot more if they shop around and perhaps choose a provider they are less familiar with."

The Guaranteed Growth Bond option is available at 4.15% and the Guaranteed Income Bond option has a rate of 4.07%.

Funds of between £500 and £1 million can be invested, with the money locked in for the duration of the three-year term.

The investments have 100%, Treasury-backed security, and are invested back into the country via government financing.

British Savings Bonds can be purchased online at nsandi.com .

Those looking for three-year deals can find a range of options with rates above 4.60% AER in the wider market, according to Moneyfactscompare.co.uk .

Bonds with shorter terms also offer higher rates, such as 5.25% AER for a one-year deal or 5.10% for a two-year deal.

Rachel Springall, a finance expert at Moneyfactscompare.co.uk , said: "As it stands, savers can get an account that pays more than 5% on either an easy access account or fixed-rate bond. As has been evident, fixed rates on savings accounts are coming down, so the deals that sit towards the top of the market will likely be in high demand."

Bim Afolami, economic secretary to the Treasury, said: "This is a new opportunity for UK savers to benefit from the three-year fixed-rate British Savings Bonds knowing that their money is fully protected by HM Treasury.

"The bonds will help to grow the savings culture in the UK while providing cost-effective financing for the government."

More than one in three UK water employees has reported being verbally abused at work, according to GMB Union.

A survey of almost 1,300 staff found industry workers have been physically assaulted and unsafe working alone, the Guardian reported.

The survey comes after backlash to news of sewage dumping practices.

The government has declined to launch a public inquiry into Thurrock council's bankruptcy , the Financial Times reports.

Residents had petitioned for an investigation into the Conservative-run Essex council.

But minister for local government Simon Hoare said a best value inspection report published last year was an effective way to look into the issue.

Co-op is reintroducing the  remote wine-tastings  first piloted during lockdown.

Winemakers will host sessions to members each month over Zoom following demand from customers, according to the supermarket.

Participants will receive advance notice of which wines will be the subject of the tastings.

Superdrug has axed the cost of VAT from its own-brand sun care range.

The retailer says the products should be deemed a healthcare essential and not a beauty treatment, and believes all sun protection should be exempt from the 20% levy.

The UK government is coming under increasing pressure to remove VAT on all sun care after a rise in calls for donations of such products, with some having to go without sun protection completely.

The reduction is expected to save consumers around £1m.

Jamie Archer, own brand director at Superdrug, said: "Sun cream is currently classed as a cosmetic product and therefore carries the VAT associated with it, making it unaffordable for some people.

"We believe that everyone should have access to the products that protect their health and wellbeing and at an affordable price.

"Therefore, we're proud to support our customers by removing 20% from our sun care range for a second year."

The cut means Solait Sun Cream SPF50 (200ml) costs £3.59 and the Solait Kid’s Roll-on Sun Cream SPF50+ (75ml) £2.79.

April Fools' Day pranks: Apps to translate baby stoner sayings, a ghostbuster at Tinder

Every april 1, brands and companies want to get some laughs – and attention – with goofy new 'product' launches. here are some ideas from companies such as sweetgreen, welch's and omaha steaks..

If you don't like Mondays, this one may especially be grating. It's April Fool's Day , when you should trust no one and question everything.

The roots of April Fools' Day may date back before to before the 15th century. But the modern-day April Fools' Day has become a day to prank a friend, family member, co-worker − or your customers.

Even though some companies have had April Fools' pranks backfire , marketers continue to issue spoof products in attempts to get some laughs and attention.

Already ahead of April Fools' Day, 7-Eleven has hinted at a possible prank product: In addition to new Lemon Lime, Green Apple and Sweet Orange flavored 7-Select sparkling waters, out now with partner Miracle Seltzer, there's a fourth flavor coming April 1: Big Bite Hot Dog.

The hot dog-flavored water "combines the mouthwatering experience of 7-Eleven’s iconic Big Bite Hot Dog into one refreshing beverage – ketchup and mustard included," the convenience chain says in a press release . "Say goodbye to the days of alternating bites of a hot dog with sips of a beverage, now those on the go can swap the bun for bubbles."

Krispy Kreme: A special doughnut deal for April Fools' Day

Will Big Bite Hot Dog sparkling water be sold? Its availability will be announced April 1. However, some reporters were sent a can of the drink. USA TODAY can confirm that it definitely smells like hot dog water and has a smoky aftertaste.

If you are interested in trying it, both 7-Eleven and Miracle Seltzer have hinted at having some to give away on their Instagram pages. (If you get a can, share with a friend as it's 16 ounces.)

Here's a roundup of many of the brand-related April Fools’ gag announcements. You've been warned.

Sour cream & onion flavored soda

Despite the proliferation of crazy-flavored products including Peeps-flavored Pepsi , Frank's RedHot sauce-flavored Vlasic pickles and Doritos Nacho Cheese-flavored liquor , healthy soda brand OLIPOP and Pringles are not really teaming up to bring to market a Sour Cream & Onion soda.

The product would have been "a match made in heaven … to bring the delicious, tangy flavor of Pringles’ Sour Cream & Onion flavor to life in liquid form with prebiotic benefits," the companies said.

Stoner lingo translation app

Another dream team prank product: Rosetta Stoned, a mobile app from Rosetta Stone and medical marijuana company Fluent , that "bridges the conversational gap between novice users and seasoned stoners in any social setting."

Da da decoder

Infant equipment site BabyQuip has its own language-bridging lark: the “Baby Translator” app, to decode your baby's secret language.

"Say 'goodbye' to restless nights as you decode your baby's coos and cries instantly, providing you with the understanding you need as a parent, all in one convenient app," it promises.

An AI-powered plush doll

Custom stuffed animal maker Budsies already makes selfie plush dolls with a built-in voice recorder. Its April Fools' spoof: Artificial intelligence-enabled dolls that "come programmed to learn everything about you and to become your new best friend."

A 50-pound Bearabuddy

Sorry to the 3,500 or so who have already signed up to buy Bearaby's Jumbo Benji plush toy, which is four times the size of its regular weighted plush toys and twice as heavy as its heaviest weighted blanket . This isn't actually going to be sold. But it is real and will be making its home in the lobby at The Child Mind Institute in Harlem to welcome children and their families. More weighted plushies are due the day after April Fools' Day, the company says.

A sleeping bag to go bananas over

The Dole Banana Peel Sleeping Bag, conveniently promoted as being available on April Fools' Day only, is made from actual banana fiber and "allows parents to escape into their own cocoon of sensory deprivation."

A full-body cleaning suit

Outrageous clothing company Tipsy Elves has a special product for April Fools' Day: The Mopsie. You don't need paper towels anymore, you can use your body to clean up those messes, with this "innovative, wearable microfiber towel jumpsuit" for "effortlessly soaking up spills and messes with ease." There's also a Baby Mopsie for "hard to reach places."

Korean BBQ deodorant

Kevin's Natural Foods , which has paleo- and keto-certified ready-to-cook and easy-prep entrées, is touting a new line of personal care products inspired by its food dishes including Korean BBQ Deodorant, Cilantro Lime Toothpaste, Lemongrass Basil Shampoo and Tikka Masala Sunscreen.

"These new face, body and hair care essentials will help fans prioritize self-care inside and out," the company says.

Omaha Steaks' meaty sprays

Omaha Steaks has its own personal care prank product: Meaty Spritz sprays with flavors such as Omaha Fog, Hog Haze, and Cock-a-Doodle-Dew.

"The world’s first protein-infused, flavor-packed, portable pump spray … (to) enjoy all the mouthwatering flavors of your Omaha Steaks gourmet favorites no matter how far away from the kitchen you are!" the company says.

Sriracha toothpaste

Asian sauce maker Lee Kum Kee , which makes Sriracha Chili Sauce and Sriracha Mayo Dressing, is introducing – not – its Siracha Mayo Toothpaste. It's "fiery and creamy goodness … is sure to spice up your morning dental routine."

Post-salad dental kit

Need some less powerful toothpaste? Sweetgreen offered these fanciful personal hygiene products as part of its Sweetgreen After Salad Kit, which is "designed with your pearly whites in mind … offering everything you need to freshen up post-meal."

Choose from Miso Ginger Toothpaste, Spicy Cashew Mints, Lime Cilantro Dental Floss, and Sweetgreen Toothbrush and Floss Picks.

Fruit juice lip gloss

More personal care prank products: Welch’s Juicyfuls Juicy Fruit Lip Gloss – now available in five flavors: grape, orange, peach, strawberry and raspberry – made with real juice from Juicefuls fruit snacks so "you get that irresistible sweet flavor you love, all in a lip gloss that's as fun as it is nourishing."

Protein-powered seasonings

Quest Nutrition , maker of protein powder, snacks and other products, has a prank product line of seasonings including All Purpose, Lemon Pepper, and Garlic Herb, each of which deliver "21g of protein, 2g of net carbs and less than 1g of sugar."

If you want to try Quest's real products, you can use code NOJOKE for free shipping on online orders over $49 April 1-3.

Superpowered Superfeet?

These would certainly come in hand on a run, but – sorry – it's a jogging joke. Superfeet SuperBoost Power E-Soles gives you 8 hours of continuous battery-powered boost, for almost Iron Man-like propulsion. "All the comfort and support of Superfeet , now with electrifying performance," the company says in a video about the prank product. "It's like having a powerful electric motor in your shoes."

Scotch tape-branded Scotch?

This shenanigan seems like a blend that could stick: Scotch Whisky by Scotch Brand. The whisky "features a nose of cherry wood and a delightfully smooth finish that hits like a well-wrapped gift."

Who you gonna call when ghosted? This new title at Tinder

Dating app Tinder announced a new April Fools' Day hiring quest for a Vice President of Ghost Hunting to help combat "one of dating culture’s most prevalent vices – ghosting," a practice inflicted on 78% of singles already in 2024 (an untrue fact from Tinder).

Patrón's bringing back a beloved liqueur. No kidding.

Patrón patrons get some good news today. The premium tequila maker chose April Fools' Day to announce the return of its Patrón XO Cafe tequila-based coffee liqueur, which was discontinued in 2021. Since production ceased, devotees took to social media and signed a petition asking parent company Bacardi to bring it back.

Made with Patrón Silver tequila and Arabica bean coffee – the dry liqueur can be sipped straight, in cocktails and as dessert topping – Patrón XO Cafe will begin arriving in stores again later this month.

Say it with dead flowers

Don't forget to put roses on your April Fools' Day list. UrbanStems has this "special" delivery, The Dead Inside Collection, "an assortment of dead flower bouquets, dead plants, half empty vases, and more for the pessimist in your life." But, for real, check UrbanStems' social media accounts including Instagram for how to get 20% off an order of real flowers.

Cheesecake Factory's real deals

The Cheesecake Factory  also has a deal that's no joke: Sign up for the chain's Cheesecake Rewards loyalty program on April 1 to get an Any Slice, Half Price reward, redeemable for 50% off any slice of cheesecake or layer cake, with any food or beverage purchase (no gift cards).

Those who were members before April 1 will find something special in their account on Monday, too: either a free slice of cheesecake each month for a year, a free whole cheesecake, a free slice of cheesecake, $5 off $25 purchases, or $10 off $40 purchases. (All rewards redeemable by April 16; can be redeemed for dine-in, to-go and DoorDash.)

New merch from Dunkin', bonus points in app

Dunkin' announced it is going back to its roots and rebranding to just "Donuts'" on Monday, April 1. To celebrate the rebrand, the company is selling "Donuts'" merch, including sweatshirts that read "DONUTS," on ShopDunkin.com .

Additionally, Dunkin' Rewards members will receive 3x bonus points on any donut order through the mobile app on April 1.

Urban Outfitters launches 'Name Three Shirts' movement

Urban Outfitters said it is launching a global movement to "stand in solidarity against band-tee-shaming" by launching a new collection called "Name Three Shirts."

The t-shirt line "playfully mocks the gatekeeping attitudes of older generations who insist that band-shirt wearers should be required to name songs by those artists," the company said in a news release.

The line, which features revamped logos from bands such as The Grateful Dead, Joy Division and Led Zeppelin, is a "playful jab at the attitudes of older generations, and fights back against the misogynistic undertones of the infamous ‘name three songs’ line of questioning," Urban Outfitters said in the news release.

The collection of shirts is available online and in select Urban Outfitters stores starting April 1. You can shop the collection online here .

Auntie Anne's, Frontier Airlines collaborate on Pretzel Plane

Auntie Anne's pretzels and Frontier Airlines announced they have collaborated on the newest addition to Frontier's fleet: the Pretzel Plane.

According to a news release, the plane includes new in-flight entertainment featuring Auntie Anne's pretzels rolled seat-side, the "luxurious" smell of hot, fresh pretzels throughout the cabin and airplane-shaped pretzels if you're feeling hungry.

Moe's Southwest Grill, Sonic team up to introduce a Queso Slush

Two popular fast food chains announced a collaboration that is sure to be polarizing.

Moe's and Sonic announced a new beverage, the Queso Slush, a queso-flavored slushie. "The frozen goodness of a Sonic Slush meets the delicious flavor of Moe's queso."
