Prince William and Kate Middleton have made their red carpet debut at the UK premiere of Top Gun: Maverick .
On Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Leicester Square in London ahead of the film screening, with the duchess opting for an off-the-shoulder black and white gown by Roland Mouret for the occasion.
The duchess wore her hair in a sleek straight style, and accessorised with a black clutch and dangling star statement earrings.
Prince William also opted for a classic look, with the duke joining his wife on the red carpet in a classic blue velvet tuxedo jacket and black bow tie.
The royal couple were joined on the red carpet by Tom Cruise , who helped the duchess up a pair of steps at one point by offering his hand.

While speaking to reporters ahead of the premiere, Cruise also reportedly discussed the similarities he shares with the Duke of Cambridge, according to MyLondon .
“We have a lot in common. We both love England and we’re both aviators, we both love flying,” the actor said.
During the duke and duchess’s first red carpet event of the year, they were also accompanied by John Hamm, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller, who plays the son of Cruise’s partner Goose from the original movie.
The royal couple last attended a movie premiere in September, when they were accompanied by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, at the UK premiere of No Time to Die at the Royal Albert Hall. For the premiere of the James Bond film, the duchess wore a metallic-sequined Jenny Packham dress, complete with a sheer cape and structured shoulders.

The Duchess of Cambridge Steals the Show at the Top Gun: Maverick Premiere in London
By Kerry McDermott
Forget Maverick and Goose, Kate Middleton had the ultimate wingman at the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick tonight: her Roland Mouret gown. The royal stole the show at UK premiere of the blockbuster sequel, which sees Tom Cruise reprise his most famous role 36 years on. Kate and her husband Prince William joined stars including Cruise, Jennifer Connelly and Val Kilmer on the red carpet in Leicester Square.
Though she’s famously happiest in her girl-next-door wardrobe of jeans, Barbour jackets and flat Penelope Chilvers boots, Kate—like any seasoned royal—knows how to ramp up the glamour when the occasion calls for it. She out-sparkled every A-lister at the No Time to Die premiere last September, wearing a gold Jenny Packham gown embellished with enough sequins to light up the Royal Albert Hall.
To attend the 2017 BAFTAs, the Duchess chose an off-the-shoulder black gown with delicate floral embellishment by perhaps her favorite luxury fashion house, Alexander McQueen. Two years later, Kate had the dress altered, adding demure cap sleeves for a gala at the National Portrait Gallery. It was a statement of intent for the royal, who is increasingly conscious with her fashion choices, as evidenced by her growing appetite for vintage .
As the president of BAFTA, Prince William has a keen interest in film, but it could be that the ’80s classic Top Gun holds a special place in the heart of the Duke, who is, after all, a trained pilot. William spent three years leading search and rescue missions out of RAF Valley on Anglesey when he and Kate lived there as newlyweds, before serving as a pilot in the East Anglia Air Ambulance for a further two years. It’s not quite flying a fighter jet in a 4G inverted dive, but it’s impressive nonetheless.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge beamed as they brushed shoulders with Hollywood, having already attended a private screening of the film earlier this year.
William and Kate arrived to cheers from onlookers and the flashes of cameras at the event in London’s Leicester Square on Thursday evening.
And movie star Cruise broke from usual protocol advising members of the public not to touch the royal family, offering Kate a helping hand as she walked the red carpet in her dress and heels.

Kate dazzled in an off-the-shoulder Roland Mouret column gown, with an Alexander McQueen clutch and Robinson Pelham diamond star earrings.
Meanwhile William was decked out in a midnight blue Alexander McQueen velvet dinner jacket and tuxedo trousers.
He also wore Crocket & Jones loafers with “F-18” on them in a nod to the fighter jet flown by Cruise’s character in the film.
The fundraising bash was held in aid of The Film and TV Charity, supporting people working behind the scenes in the UK’s screen sector.
It also marked the first time in 36 years Tom Cruise has slipped out of his shirt and into his aviators as test pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell.
Cruise pulled out all the stops to set up a private screening for Wills and Kate back in March – having heard trained RAF helicopter pilot Wills, 39, was a fan of the original.
He gave them a world-first preview of the sequel, along with Sophie Wessex, 57, Princesses Eugenie, 32, and Princess Beatrice, 33, at one of the country’s biggest IMAX screens.
Maverick , which has so far received rave reviews from critics , sees Hollywood star Cruise reprise the role of US naval aviator Pete Mitchell and is being released 36 years after the 1986 original.
It was originally due for release in July 2019 but was repeatedly pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Tom Cruise made a dramatic entrance at the US premiere of the film, landing a helicopter on an aircraft carrier in San Diego, California.
And on Sunday, he joined the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, in which he introduced the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery.
The actor said: “(The Queen) is a woman that I greatly admire, what she has accomplished has been historic.
“She has met presidents, world leaders, people from all walks of life.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Reportedly Attend Private Top Gun Screening with Tom Cruise
Apparently the movie star arranged a premiere of the Top Gun sequel for the British royals after learning Prince William is a fan.
Prince William is apparently a Tom Cruise fan. So Cruise reportedly treated him to an early showing of Top Gun: Maverick , the long-awaited sequel to 1986's Tom Gun . The movie star apparently hosted a special screening at an IMAX cinema near London’s Leicester Square for William—and Kate Middleton, Sophie Wessex, Princess Eugenie, and Princess Beatrice.
William has been the president of the BAFTAs since 2010, a role he took over from his grandfather Prince Philip. In his capacity as BAFTA president, he has attended numerous film premieres over the years—including, most recently, the premiere of the latest James Bond film in September 2021.
Cruise has met multiple members of the British royal family over the course of his acting career, including Prince Philip in 2017 and Princess Diana in 1992.
Reportedly, Diana took Prince Harry and Prince William to set to watch the making of Mission Impossible .
Her former chef, Darren McGrady, said in a video tribute on what would have been her 60th birthday, "She came into the kitchen one morning and said, 'Darren, we've had an invite to go and watch the making of Mission Impossible at Pinewood Studios in London, for me to take William and Harry."
Later, "She came into the kitchen later that day and she'd been and the boys absolutely loved it—all those explosions and things. She came in, picked up some fruit, walked out and didn't say anything. But as she was walking out, she said, 'That's another one off the list. He's too short.' She'd met Tom Cruise!"
Top Gun: Maverick will officially premiere at Cannes Film Festival next month, a release that has been delayed by the COVID pandemic.

Tom Cruise Hosts Kate Middleton & Prince William For Special Screening Of ‘Top Gun’ Sequel
The actor invited both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for a private showing of the upcoming action sequel!
Who better to see Top Gun with than Maverick himself? That’s just what Prince William and Kate Middleton got when they received a special screening of the upcoming sequel Top Gun: Maverick with Tom Cruise . William, 39, and Kate, 40, were among the first people to see the movie at a private London screening, held by Tom, 59, according to a report from The Sun . The Mission: Impossible star hosted the screening, because he found out that the Duke of Cambridge is a huge fan of the original 1986 flick.
The prince and Kate had their special screening at an IMAX theater in Leicester Square in London, and they were reportedly accompanied by Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice as well as Sophie Wessex. “The rest of the cinema was shut to ensure privacy and William, Kate and a few other members of the royal family — plus a couple of very trusted friends — were the first to see it,” a source revealed to The Sun .
Tom was excited for the pair to to see the movie, and hear what they thought. “Tom made the offer after learning William is a fan. They happily accepted. Let’s face it, guests don’t get much more A-list!” the source said. “Tom welcomed them and said he hoped they’d enjoy watching it as much as he’d enjoyed making it, and left them to it.”
William’s background in the Royal Air Force made it a surefire hit for him, especially with him being a fan of the original. “Apparently, it was met with royal approval — not least because William has been a military pilot himself so it’s pretty close to his heart,” the source said.
Over 30 years since the original film came out, Top Gun is one of the most highly anticipated sequels of the summer! Besides Tom donning his flight suit as Maverick once again , the movie also boasts the return of Val Kilmer as the Iceman, as well as newcomers to the franchise including Miles Teller , Jon Hamm , and many more. Val admitted that he was touched to work on the movie again in an April 2021 Good Morning America interview. “I really was surprised. And Tom was wearing his jacket, his original jacket from the first movie, it was just very moving ,” he said.

TikTok is currently losing its mind right now over these resurfaced clips of the time Tom Cruise may have gotten a little too close to Kate Middleton (and how Prince William may have looked a little peeved, to say the least!)
On April 17, a TikTok account by the name of @katemiddleton.fp shared a now-viral video of Kate, William, and Cruise with the caption, “No miren a su esposa.” (When translated: it supposedly says “Don’t Look at Your Wife.”)
(Keep in mind, this clip is from May 19, 2022, when the Prince and Princess of Wales arrived for the Royal Film Performance of Top Gun: Maverick !)
@katemiddleton.fp No miren a su esposa ⚠️💥 #princewilliam #princesscatherine #katemiddleton #fyp #tiktok #viral ♬ sonido original – Princess Catherine
In the ten-second video, we start with a clip of Kate laughing, talking to Cruise, and later, Cruise holding her hand to guide her up the stairs. Then, in the last clip, we see both William and Cruise holding their hands out for Kate to hold onto while walking down the steps.
So, two things have come from this resurfaced clip: people are convinced Cruise looks smitten with the Princess of Wales, and they believe William looks jealous because of it. However, quite a few fans are convinced it was nothing more than Cruise being courteous and William being nervous.
One TikTok user commented: “I don’t think Tom meant anything other than trying to just be a gentleman, Prince William just probably isn’t used to this kind of stuff.” However, many fans also commented things like “Tom was touching her a little too much and was a little too close that night, William had every right to be uncomfortable & protective!”
Safe to say, the internet is debating to the fullest over these clips.
Is Tom Cruise Buddies with the British Royal Family?
Short answer: yes! Not only has he been seen talking to many members of the family in the past thirty years (including Princess Diana!), but he and Queen Elizabeth II grew very close before her death . Along with that, William and Kate made his Christmas gift list last year!
Did Tom Cruise Break Royal Protocol?
Yes and no. Per the monarchy’s website , they claim “there are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family.” However, many stars have talked about the unwritten rules that had to know before meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales. So while it’s not explicitly written anywhere, it’s a general rule that you don’t touch members of the British royal family.
Does William Have a Pattern of Being Jealous?
Like any relationship, they get jealous and apparently have rather loud fights, but seeing William jealous of men around Kate is not a pattern eagle-eyed fans have noticed. However, back in 2007 when they briefly split up, William was reportedly jealous of Kate going on a date with his rival and Eton schoolmate Henry Ropner, per IBT .

Inside Tom Cruise's relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton, and why he loves the UK so much
Tom Cruise reportedly considers himself "an honorary Brit" and is enjoying his newfound friendship with Prince William and Kate Middleton .
The once reclusive Hollywood A-lister is popping up everywhere in Britain, from the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations to the women's final at Wimbledon, concerts by Adele and The Rolling Stones, as well as cheering for his pal Lewis Hamilton at last weekend's British Grand Prix. A source close to the actor recently said that the 'Top Gun: Maverick' ' star, 60, has "fallen in love with everything about the UK."

Cruise celebrated his 60th birthday at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds last weekend with some of his closest pals across the Atlantic, including David Beckham, Gordon Ramsay, James Corden, and his 'Mission: Impossible' co-star Simon Pegg. However, perhaps his most extraordinary friendship is with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Hollywood megastar grabbed headlines for his chivalry when he took Kate's hand to guide her upstairs on the red carpet at the premiere of 'Top Gun: Maverick' in Leicester Square in May.
While some critics noted that the gesture was "overly familiar," sources told the Daily Mail that the actor is a "huge fan" of the Cambridges, adding that their friendship is "warm and professional." The insider also claimed that Will and Kate themselves encouraged Cruise to be included in the opening night of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations last month. Meanwhile, Cruise is understood to have personally invited the Cambridges to an early preview of the new Top Gun movie at a cinema in Leicester Square last October, when the first tapes of the film were sent over from the US. "It has turned into quite a special friendship," the source continued. "He was so happy to be involved in the Jubilee proceedings. There was chatter that Kate and William asked him to do it. It wouldn't be surprising because he adores the Royal Family."
Cruise's love affair with the UK reportedly began when he moved to the country shortly before the pandemic hit to film back-to-back 'Mission: Impossible' movies. Filming for the franchise's latest installment is due to start this week, this time in the serene Lake District, which is one of the star's favorites owing to his love for the British countryside. According to reports, he plans to be in Britain until the beginning of next year.
Cruise recently sold his $39million Beverly Hills mansion and moved into a penthouse in Clearwater, Florida, in a building owned by the controversial Church of Scientology, of which he is reportedly a member. However, the star has since appeared "rudderless," per a source in his professional circle. "The thing about Tom in Hollywood is that you never saw him out and about. He was almost a recluse," the Los Angeles-based insider told the Daily Mail. "He'd do the red carpet to promote his movies but I only ever saw him with family members or staff. It always struck me he didn't appear to have any friends outside his family and church. At events, he was this little figure inside a circle of bodyguards. He was extremely professional but withdrawn." The source continued, "Seeing him now is a total transformation. He's genuinely happy, he is out all the time and he doesn't have an entourage of security around him like he did in the States. He's posing for selfies and he has a freedom in the UK I don't think he ever had here."

Internet can't get over Tom Cruise's AMAZED expression when he spots Kate Middleton at Wimbledon
It's worth noting that Cruise's life in the UK is a far cry from the days he kept himself isolated in his Hollywood estate high in the hills above LA. Now, he lives in a six-bedroom Knightsbridge penthouse apartment overlooking Hyde Park, where he is often spotted enjoying early morning jogs with his personal trainer. "He's never recognized," a source close to him told the newspaper. "He wants to fit in, to look like any other local going for a run. He loves that he can enjoy the park without anyone realizing who he is. That's something that wouldn't happen for him in Los Angeles. Tom can blend in, be one of the boys." Another source insisted, "You have to understand he's spending most of his time in the UK now. At first, it was for work but now it's for pleasure," adding, "He considers himself an honorary Brit."
Prince William Speaks Out on King Charles' Cancer Diagnosis, Poses With Tom Cruise at Charity Gala
The Prince of Wales is currently taking on extra royal duties as his father, King Charles III, and his wife, Kate Middleton, recover.
Prince William says he is grateful for the warm messages he and his family have received in the wake of his father, King Charles III , being diagnosed with cancer .
Making his first public comment on the diagnosis since the news broke, the Prince of Wales, 41, appeared at a gala honoring the London Air Ambulance Charity -- an event also featuring Tom Cruise .
In his remarks, the prince thanked those in attendance and the public for their support amid his father's health issues and the recent hospitalization of his wife, Kate Middleton , who underwent a planned abdominal procedure in January.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all," Prince William told the audience.
"It's fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather 'medical' focus. So I thought I'd come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all," William joked.
The Daily Mail 's Rebecca English shared footage from the event of the speech, which shows William offering up his thanks for their kindness during the unprecedented time for their family.
In another video shared by English on X -- formerly known as Twitter -- the prince could be seen posing for pictures with the Top Gun and Mission Impossible star, 61, at the charity event, which has a close connection to Prince William's heart as a former air ambulance pilot.
Photos obtained by ET show Prince William entering the event, conversing with Cruise and chatting with orange-vested paramedics and air pilots inside the black-tie gala. The next-in-line to the throne opted for a sleek black tuxedo with a black bow tie, which Cruise also sported for the gala. In the background of one pic, Sister Sledge -- the music group behind the hit song "We Are Family" -- can be seen on the line waiting to speak with the royal family member.
Prince William is currently picking up extra work as his father recovers from his first cancer treatment and on Tuesday, he appeared at Windsor Castle , where he took part in an investiture ceremony.
"Honouring amazing people doing incredible things in our communities up and down the country," a post on his and Kate's official Instagram account read in reference to the special occasion. The Princess of Wales, like her father-in-law, is currently taking time off from her royal duties while she recovers."
At the end of January, ET reported that in the midst of his wife's recovery, William would be stepping back from his royal duties in order to help the Princess of Wales, 42, recuperate from her unspecified procedure. A source said that William's attention was on their three children -- Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 -- as their mother recovered.
Just days later, however, the news of his father's cancer diagnosis was made public via a statement from Buckingham Palace confirming that following King Charles' recent hospitalization, diagnostic tests identified a form of cancer. The exact type of cancer has not been shared by palace officials.
"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual," a statement released on Monday read.
"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure," the statement continued. "He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
Immediately after the news was released, ET learned that King Charles' younger son, Prince Harry , was traveling to the U.K. to visit with his father . On Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex arrived in England, visiting his father at Clarence House. Harry's wife, Meghan Markle , stayed in California with their children, Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2.
Royal Expert Katie Nicholl spoke with ET on Tuesday and shared that following the diagnosis, King Charles, 75, was looking to reunite with his younger son.
"His father personally telephoned him to inform him of his cancer diagnosis, [and] Harry jumped on the overnight flight from Los Angeles," Nicholl shared, adding that when he arrived in London, Harry "came straight to Clarence House for what we understand was a brief meeting with his father."
"One could only imagine that it would have been an emotional reunion," Nicholl said. "Because they haven't seen each other since the king's coronation, and then they didn't get to spend very much time together at all."
Prince Harry quickly flew back to the U.S. on Wednesday and it's unclear if he has any additional trips planned to visit his father in the future.

The Big Little Lies actress, 56, reflected on her high-profile marriage with the Mission Impossible star, 61, which lasted from 1990 to 2001, during which time they adopted kids Connor and Isabella. See inside their relationship...
Two years before their split, the former couple's relationship was put under the microscope following their convincing portrayal of a jealous couple in the film Eyes Wide Shut. Nicole shut down any rumours of problems and insisted their impressive acting skills were not a reflection of their real-life relationship.
Addressing the intense media interest in their marriage and split, Nicole told Harper's Bazaar : "I was young. I think I offered it up? Maybe I've gotten a bit more trepidatious, but I'm always trying to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way."
Looking at how her past has impacted her current marriage, she said: "I'm wary at times, and I've been hurt, but at the same time I much prefer a warm approach rather than a prickly shutdown approach. My husband, Keith, says that when he met me, he said, 'How's your heart?' And I apparently responded, 'Open.'"
Nicole had been single for four years before meeting her second husband Keith at G’Day L.A in 2005. During that time, her career was going from strength to strength, but she previously discussed her private struggles in her personal life .
One year after being nominated for an Oscar for her role in Moulin Rouge, she won Best Actress for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours. In the hours after her huge career accomplishment, she said she had an epiphany about her love life.
Celebrating her win by eating takeout on the floor of the Beverly Hills Hotel with her family, Nicole told Dave Karger for his book 50 Oscar Nights: "I went to bed alone; I was in bed before midnight. If I ever won again, I'm telling you, I'd be out for 24 hours.
"I sat on the floor of the hotel eating French fries and a burger with my family and went to bed. That's when it hit me. I went, 'I need to find my love; I need a love in my life.' Because this is supposed to be when you go, 'This is ours.'"
Nicole went on to discuss the start of her relationship with Keith, claiming that her attraction was initially one-sided.
After heading his speech about his mother, Harper's Bazaar reported that Nicole's sister whispered to her: "Well, it doesn’t get much better than that," and she replied: "Yeah, but he’s not gonna be interested in me."
Nicole says that she and Keith have different recollections of his first impressions of her. "He actually wasn’t that interested in me at the time – which he now says is not true; he was just sort of intimidated," she said, before stating her feelings intensified once they began chatting on the phone four months later.
"I was really, really into him. He took a little time. And he’s like, ‘That is so incorrect, Nicole,'" she said.
Their enduring love story is a testament to their mutual feelings for one another. Nicole and Keith got married in Sydney in 2006 and they are now parents to daughters Sunday and Faith.
Since then, the couple have reiterated that they have a "normal" relationship despite their respective fame. On Jessica Rowe's podcast series, The Big Talk Show, Keith said: "We're just a couple who work things out, go through things together, life, and support each other the best way we can and try and raise our family. Underneath it all, we're as normal as you can get I reckon."
Nicole also told Today: "We don't want to be a pin-up couple. We just want to be a couple that has a great life together."

Why Kate Middleton and Prince William's Marriage Is More Relatable Than Ever
Kate middleton and prince william are celebrating 13 years of marriage in an unprecedented time for the whole royal family as the princess undergoes treatment following a cancer diagnosis..
Tuning in from all around the world, more than 160 million people watched Kate Middleton and Prince William get married in 2011 .
From the bride's exquisite Sarah Burton gown and Cartier "halo" tiara to the newlyweds' kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, the future looked rosy for the whole royal family , scandals of years past finally behind them as this young generation seized the spotlight.
In recent months, that outlook has taken on a grayish cast as Kate and her father-in-law King Charles III deal with respective cancer diagnoses. And the unprecedented collision of health crises only added to preexisting concern about the overall well-being of the monarchy that the institution hasn't been able to shake since Queen Elizabeth II 's death in 2022.
None of which means that there aren't still rosy times ahead. But as Kate and William mark their 13th wedding anniversary on April 29, their life together has taken on an unmistakable whiff of relatability, in that they're just trying to keep it all together for Prince George , 10, Princess Charlotte , 8, and Prince Louis , 6, and come out the other side as whole as possible.
Almost like normal people, a descriptor that generally doesn't apply to the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Not that there's anything normal about the thick layer of scrutiny they've been operating under. Kensington Palace's initial explanation back in January that Kate would be taking a few months off from official duties while recovering from abdominal surgery was ultimately not nearly enough information to satisfy an increasingly curious global audience.
So when Kate informed the world in a March 22 video message that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy after doctors found cancer had been present when they operated, it was a humbling moment for those banking on a more salacious explanation for her absence. Not to mention, it was a reminder that, when an extremely public person whose main job is to be seen asks for health-related privacy, she has her reasons.

William, meanwhile, had already pressed pause on his own schedule earlier in the year after Kate's surgery and his father's treatment for an enlarged prostate. But after Charles shared Feb. 5 that he'd been diagnosed with cancer , the heir to the throne knew he had to get back to work as soon as possible as the youngest and most popular senior royal still in commission. (According to the latest YouGov poll from the first quarter of 2024, he trails only his wife and, still at No. 1, the late queen.)
"They are very good at keeping calm and carrying on, no matter what's going on behind closed doors," royals correspondent Sharon Carpenter told E! News after Charles' announcement. "We continually see this commitment to duty no matter what."
At the same time, she added, "We look at them oftentimes as made of steel and just nothing affects them, they aren't led by their emotions and they never seem to be ill, they're not real people. Knowing they're just like us is a really good way to encourage others to be on top of their own health."
Kate noted in her video, filmed in the garden at Windsor Castle, that it had taken time both for her to recover from "major surgery" and for her and William to best explain her situation to George, Charlotte and Louis "in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK."
She added, "Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance. I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal."
Composed and sanguine as she may have been, and though she did not share any other particulars about her condition, by historic royal standards that was practically Billie Eilish 's latest Rolling Stone interview .
"I would hope that many of the people that've peddled these conspiracy theories, which have ranged from her being in a coma to having botched cosmetic surgery, might just take a break from the keyboard," NBC News royals contributor Katie Nicholl told anchor Lester Holt afterward. "As a family, they've obviously been going through a huge amount."
Noting the implied plea for privacy in the princess' message, Nicholl said that Kate shares information "in her time, on her terms, and what comes first for her isn't the public trying to find out what's happened here. It's about protecting her family."
The Wales fam skipped the March 31 Easter service at St. George's Chapel, while Charles—who's been conducting business at Buckingham Palace since February and is due to resume public-facing duties April 30 —did attend with Queen Camilla .
William's hiatus from official engagements continued while George, Charlotte and Louis were on their spring break. He returned to work April 18 , accepting cards on his father and Kate's behalf during his visit to Surplus to Supper in Surrey, which combats food waste and the the scourge of hunger due to poverty.
When a volunteer entreated him to look after his wife, William assured her , "I will, thank you very much."
Kate, who's attended to some duties from home , said in her video that her work has always brought her "a deep sense of joy" and she was looking forward to getting back out there as soon as she was able.
But leading up to Louis' sixth birthday on April 23 , the question arose whether the royals would post Kate's latest portrait of her youngest child on social media, as they've done every year—or whether they had soured on sharing for a while after photo and news agencies flagged their March 10 U.K. Mother's Day snap of Kate and the kids as too "manipulated" to distribute .
Kate and William did eventually share the reliably adorable new photo , but they posted it a few hours later than usual. Which left more than enough time for stories about royal fans' disappointment at the family's so-called silence to spread, though they were dutifully followed by stories of fans' delight .
But for the most part, in keeping with how the couple have handled most of the outside hysteria—while addressing it at all is unusual, they've still been relatively unreactive compared to how some celebrities deal with vicious rumors—they stayed the course.
"Their forthcoming anniversary is a testament to not only their love, but also their unity," royal biographer Robert Jobson , who has a new book about Kate coming out in July, told HELLO! . "I'm sure they'll acknowledge their journey, knowing that their strength lies in being together. The ups and downs they have weathered together have cemented their bond, which is now unshakeable."
He continued, "Catherine has done her best to stick to a routine for the sake of the children. She and William know the importance of taking each day as it comes. It was a huge blow when they first learned of the diagnosis, but they are both mentally strong. Without doubt, it has brought the couple even closer together."

Prince William Shares Kate Middleton Cancer Health Update
By Kase Wickman
Prince William shared a brief update about Kate Middleton and the couple's three children on Tuesday. Since the surprise announcement in late March that Kate had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer , the princess of Wales's plea for “time, space, and privacy” for herself and her family has been largely respected, in contrast to the flurry of speculation surrounding her whereabouts before the news was made public. Kensington Palace has not provided updates on Kate's health, but on Tuesday, William indicated that the family was well.
While on a visit to northeast England, where he made stops in support of environmental and mental wellness initiatives, William was greeted by two bystanders draped with the Union Jack, a moment captured in a video shared to social media .
“Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?” one well-wisher asks in the clip.
“We’re all doing well, thank you,” William said.
“And obviously Catherine?” the person pressed.
“We’re all doing well,” William reiterated.
Tuesday’s outing was William’s third day of official engagements since the Wales family shared Kate’s diagnosis publicly. Kate has stepped back from her public-facing duties as she undergoes treatment, but shared a sweet photo recently to Instagram in honor of her youngest child Prince Louis ’s sixth birthday. Earlier this week, Kate and William marked their 13th wedding anniversary , sharing a previously unreleased portrait from their 2011 wedding day.
“13 years ago today!” the caption on the photo read.
Kate, of course, isn't the only ailing member of the royal family. King Charles III , William's father, also announced earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with cancer. The monarch is also undergoing treatment, and recently returned to lightened public-facing duties . On Tuesday, he visited a cancer center and spoke with fellow patients, where he called his diagnosis “a bit of a shock.”

Kate and William have attracted attention throughout their marriage as senior members of the British royal family, with the public invested in the birth of their three children and their creation as the Prince and Princess of Wales .
Interest in their relationship skyrocketed in March 2024 amid Kate's absence from the public eye following a "planned abdominal surgery" in January. As her absence persisted, public concern about her whereabouts and well-being heightened, with some social media users speculating about Kate and William's marriage .
The couple also received backlash for releasing a digitally altered photo of Kate and her children that Kensington Palace said William took on March 10. Kate took responsibility for the editing .
As the month went on, she remained absent from the public, and Kate and William have yet to be photographed officially together in 2024. However, tabloids like the Daily Mail and TMZ have released pictures of what appeared to be the couple on two separate occasions in March.
On March 22, Kate revealed she has cancer and is undergoing "preventative chemotherapy" in a video shared directly with the public.
In the video, she appeared to quash concerns about her marriage, saying that William had been a "great source of comfort and reassurance" for her amid her treatment. William did not appear in the video with Kate, but he has made public appearances following her announcement.

Prince William's visit to northeast England, which included visits to 2022 Earthshot Prize finalist Low Carbon Materials and mental health organization James' Place , marked his third day of forward-facing royal engagements since his wife announced her cancer diagnosis on March 22.
Princess Kate, 42, shared in a self-written video message that she was undergoing chemotherapy after post-operative tests related to her abdominal surgery in January "found cancer had been present." She may have strategically waited to share the health update until Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 6, were out of school on Easter break, creating space for the family to spend time together privately.
William took time off in the weeks following Kate's health news, resuming public duties the day after their kids returned to school.
During his first official engagement on April 18, the Prince of Wales gratefully accepted well-wishes for Princess Kate and King Charles amid their cancer treatments.
Prince William seemed moved when a volunteer at food distribution charity Surplus to Supper surprised him with cards for his wife and father, who is also being treated for cancer . (The King, 75, resumed public-facing duties for the first time since Buckingham Palace announced his diagnosis in February with a visit to cancer treatment center on April 30.)
"Oh, some cards, you’re very kind. Thank you very much," William told volunteer Rachel Candappa in a video shared to X by Lizzie Robinson of ITV.
When Candappa, 71, told the royal to look after his wife, he placed a hand on her shoulder and said, "I will," The Telegraph reported.

Prince William's children were also top of mind during his royal engagements on April 25, where he shared Princess Charlotte’s " favorite joke at the moment " and joked about how he wound up cleaning up after his kids' pet guinea pig because they "forget."
The family also celebrated several special occasions in late April, including Prince Louis' 6th birthday on April 23 and Prince William and Princess Kate's 13th wedding anniversary on April 29. Both milestones were marked with new portraits.
