What’s happening?

Foo Fighters will be the latest headline music act to be coming to Villa Park on Thursday 27 June. Doors open at 16:00 so expect the roads and public transport services in and around the Birmingham City Centre to be busier until the event begins and after 22:30. 

Plan ahead and leave more time for your journeys: check timetables and plan your route before you travel to make sure you arrive in plenty of time. 

Please allow extra time to travel on this day if your journey is to or through the area surrounding Villa Park.

Travelling by Rail

Stations closest to Villa Park include Witton and Aston, we are anticipating increased footfall on this day. We would advise to plan ahead and retime your journeys if possible.

Please note that rail stations will be busy so please be patient and expect to queue, especially at the end of the concert. Review your journey options with our journey planner tool.

Travelling by Bus

We are anticipating an increase in demand and busy services on the 7, 11A, 11C, 65 and 67 on the concert day.  If possible plan ahead and retime your journey. To check bus timetable information for these routes, please click here .

Changes have been made to bus stops around Birmingham City Centre. Please note if you travel through Birmingham Moor Street, Metro extension works are taking place. For your own safety, use the designated walking routes.

Travelling by Metro

West Midlands Metro will be operating a regular service and could be a quicker way of getting around to support navigating the increased demand across roads due to the concert.  Services could be busier towards Grand Central tram stop from 17:00 with concert goers and commuters. Please retime your journey if you can.

Travelling by Bike or Foot

The A34 cycle lane could be busier than usual. Check the Beryl app for availability of West Midlands Cycle Hire. For shorter journeys walking or cycling may be quicker way of getting around

Travelling By Road

Delays will be expected on the M6 motorway J6 and 7, A38M and local roads around Aston.

Parking is not available at the venue so expect the area and car parks around Perry Barr, Salford Circus and Park Circus to be in high demand.

The junction at Birchfield Road and Aston Lane near Perry Barr train station is a known area for congestion during such fixtures and events at the stadium .

If possible avoid travelling to or through this area if you are not attending the concert.

Local road closures will be in place from 13:00 for safety purposes until all ticket holders are in the ground. 

If you are travelling to the concert, the venue has arranged a shuttle service from Dudley Street near Birmingham New Street station directly to Villa Park before and after the concert. More details can be found at here.

Please expect this location to be busy with pedestrians and be prepared to queue. If you are not travelling to the concert, please avoid this area if you can.   

Where possible, travel by public transport to avoid traffic congestion or travel at alternative times on the day.  

Travelling by Park and Ride

Consider leaving the car at home if you can and use public transport or  park and ride sites  to avoid traffic congestion.

West Midlands bus prices set to rise, TfWM announces - see how much fares will increase here

The increased fees will come into play soon, and some tickets could increase again at the turn of the year.

Transport for West Midlands has today announced a hike in prices for bus travel across the region, and the higher fees will begin in just a couple of weeks.

Fares for day and season bus tickets are set to rise by an average of six per cent at the end of June as the industry 'struggles to meet the ongoing challenges of rising costs'.

TfWM said the decision will see the nbus day ticket rise to £4.80 - an increase of 30p - and the four week fare rise from £60 to £64, in a decision agreed by all bus operators in the Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) area.

But according to the transport authority, which is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority , the new fares continue to 'offer great value to passengers' noting that they remain lower than Liverpool and Greater Manchester.

The single fare remains set at £2 and has been capped under a funding agreement with the Department for Transport - but only until the end of 2024.

A spokesperson for the TfWM, said: "The increase ensures that the region’s bus network remains operating at current levels while an ongoing review, launched by TfWM last year, looks at the long-term sustainability of bus services. The review will be reported back to the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Board next month."

They went on to say that bus operators are under acute financial pressures due to steep rises in the cost of fuel, maintenance and labour over recent years and stubborn passenger numbers which remain at around 90% of pre-Covid 19 levels.

TfWM, which is part of the WMCA, is already pumping around £50 million a year into the bus network to support essential services, avoid more substantial fare increases or service reductions.

Pete Bond, director of integrated transport services with TfWM, said: “Despite many challenges we have worked with bus operators since the pandemic to keep fare rises to an absolute minimum.

“And even though they are rising, fares remain great value for the many people who rely on buses day in and day out.

“At the same time we are working on plans to secure the long-term future of our bus network and will announce the results of the review in the coming weeks.”

They finished by noting that by using the Bus Service Improvement Plan funding, the region has already implemented a ‘bonfire of bus tickets’ by securing a uniform fare structure across all private operators, meaning passengers no longer pay extra to use services run by multiple companies. It has also funded new Transport Safety Officers who are out on patrol to keep passengers safe, deter crime and tackle anti-social behaviour.

Further investment has been directed at improving infrastructure including more bus lanes and priority junctions to improve reliability of services on key commuter routes, enhancing real time journey information and the introduction of hundreds of zero-emission electric buses through the Coventry All-Electric Bus City project.
